Review John Dory's Suncoast - Durban

Went for 1/2 price sushi on Wednesday evening, again. The place can get packed quickly due to being the only one close by, as the Wilsons wharf outlet has closed its doors. Our waiter, Kwanele, was super attentive, helpful, and friendly. Food was good; familiar. Had their peppermint tart for dessert, for the 1st time, and I liked it. My friend had their death by chocolate cake, and it was oh so decadent. The only downside, is that due to the size of the place, and the tables being so close to each other, the noise levels, can get a bit much, and you end up almost shouting at each other across the table.

The food was decent, but the prawns were a bit dry. Otherwise, the rest was tasty. The service was great and the staff were friendly. The manager also checked on us twice. Something worth noting, the music inside the restaurant was quite loud so it was a bit hard to make our order since the staff could not hear us.

Sphindile was our waitor she was amazingly perfect she served us diligently. And the lady wearing black who welcome us when we came i guess that was a hostess she was also phenomenal..although we didn't see any manager on the floor the food was nice Sphindile was excellent. The Chef made scrumptious meals

I went on a solo date in the beginning of the year. Great place, beautiful scenary if you're seated outside. Great place to go when you're on budget but require quality but affordable food. Loved the service and the atmosphere.

Very very busy and therefore a long wait for your food, but it's worth it. Very tasty food and worth an extra few minutes when ordering. The staff are super friendly and fun. The atmosphere is good. The food was also worth it with the current specials. Hot ,tasty ,food, and it was freshly prepared. Overall a good experience and would recommend for a lovely seafood meal. Ask them for extra sauce on the prawns as it's great 👍 The crumbed mushrooms were the best I've ever eaten and definitely something I'd have again

Great sushi, it really sucked in 2021 but it's gotten so much better! Definitely worth trying now! Good service too!

I don't do John Dory's due to bad experiences in Cape Town and George but what a difference at suncoast. After all the meat over the festive season my husband and I decided to do a date night with fish on the menu. Looked around at suncoast and settled for John Dory's with skepticism. Seated quickly and our drinks order taken promptly. It was a little busy but we did not wait long for the drinks to arrive and ordered a salmon poke bowl to share as a starter and a seafood platter for main. Everything was very well presented and prepared. The waiter was attentive and even managers made regular stops at the table. I highly recommend this branch and hopefully the cape town and George branch can improve on their service the way the do. Well done management and staff John Dory's Suncoast

Thank you for the wonderful, quick , efficient, friendly service . From the lady that greeted us at the door and led us to the table, to the waiter who was so polite and nice , manager who checked in and the chef who, during the business of boxing day, sent out well presented, perfectly cooked meals in great time, we were really impressed . The complimentary bowl of popcorn was nice a touch this festive season. Covid protocols were well met with waiters wearing their masks appropriately, sanitising stations available and good airflow. Definitely recommend 😊

OMG!!!! I liked the setting, the waiter and waitresses are helpful, i mean the service was super good. I am satisfied with the service i was served with. They are friendly. By the way the food was extremely good, continue satisfying our needs as costumers, we appreciate you.☺️😇

Char grilled peri peri chicken breasts are the best at the Suncoast branch. Good service by waitress on last visit.

Amazing sushi, super fresh.

Although the claim is to be a seafood and grill, I am not sure that they do any of this very well. The location is great with a fantastic vibe, but the food is just not great. Steak was less than mediocre. The sushi rice was over cooked and under seasoned. Not sure the sushi chef knows that California rolls should not be flat round disks and looked nothing like the pictures on the menu. The waitress was friendly, but got distracted and took a while to bring additional drinks when they were ordered.

The service was average. Food franchise standards were met at this outlet although the busy noise of people going to the casino, the beach, movies, the other restaurants is just too much. But overall it’s acceptable

What was suppossed to be a leisurely lunch turned out to be quite a disappointment. Took family of 7 there on the 21st March at approx 1pm.After waiting for 10 minutes unattended at the door, I had to force a waitress to take notice of us, was seated and we then left after 15 minutes unattended at table.Staff looked absolutely clueless and maybe their first lunch crowd.Not a manager or owner in/on site.

Atmosphere is pretty chill and neatly kept, our waiter was slow with our order. We were told that no veggie substitutes (spinach/butternut) were available however the meal was very worth the price, R129 for a rib and chicken combo, portions are huge. Ordered a Pina colada apparently drinks are pre-made, tasted more like a weak slushie.

Miserable experience. Wrong orders delivered. Took over 3 hours for a basic meal for 5. Unfriendly staff who don’t seem to be concerned about customer satisfaction.

The restaurant is always busy. Staff is usually friendly. The food is not consistent. Once had the seafood platter and we really enjoyed it. The other time we had a combo and did not enjoy it.

Took my mum and aunt to JD's for supper on Tuesday. The waitress was very sweet and attentive and the manager came to check up on us as well. The prawn and calamari combo was divine. I'm hoping to try the rib and prawn combo before the special is over ;(

If I could give negative I could. Honestly the worst service ever received. It was the worst way to end what was an amazing family vacation. <br/>After being seated our waitress (Precious) came and didn't even know the menu. She didn't know what kind of onion rings are offered and worst off all she couldn't explain if swapping hale fish with salmon was possible. We waited for what seems a lifetime in the restaurant industry for her to find out if we could swap the hake. Then after taking our food orders Previous decided we won't order drinks because she didn't even give us a chance to order or ask. She didn't smile once while serving us. They brought out the kiddies meal at least 20 minutes before bringing the rest of the food. And while we waited precious never checked on us once. So she left her table unattended with no drinks. While waiting for the food seemed to take forever we asked for tomato sauce from another waiter. And if came dirty. <br/>Precious made sure we never come back here again.

Absolutely terrible service, food was awful, wine was warm. Would not recommend coming to this place if you feel like some quality seafood but if you do want to eat rubber go for it.

Image shared is the pityful portion of calamari main...Calamari Tunes which looks more like a starter of calamari rings. I have always been reluctant to visit John Dorys, but in the absence of Ocean Basket....not much of a choice I had. Definitely not spending my hard earned money with this place!!!

Great sushi but the steaks we ordered were all incorrectly cooked. Mom ordered medium, she got a well done steak. My aunt ordered well done and she got medium. I ordered medium and got a rare steak.. gosh but the manager was very sweet and he sorted everything out immediately. By the time the steaks arrived, I completely forgot to take a pic, sorry :D <br/>I think maybe stick to seafood when you go to John Dory's seeing as it is their specialty.

This place was a sad disappointment. Watery prawns and unhelpful staff who are clearly overworked whilst management idly stands around. The mussels came in a sauce resembling dishwater. One would think being in such a busy location, service would be of an exemplary standard... It is unfortunately not the case.

The fish was fresh and cooked beautifully. The only thing I can complain about is the garlic butter sauce which looks very unappealing and also the peri-peri sauce they drown the food in. Other than that I really enjoyed the food here

Was pleasantly surprised last night for dinner.<br/><br/>The sushi starter was pretty good. I had the pirate platter for mains. It was also pretty good.<br/><br/>The service from Siya was fantastic.<br/><br/>The only thing i did not enjoy was the lemon butter sauce. That needs to be worked on.
