Review Blue Zoo Restaurant - Durban

Great setting in Mitchell Park under the Natal Mahogany trees. Pianist on weekends. Fast service. Food reasonably priced. Children friendly zone.

The natural ambience of this garden restaurant is unmatched. While the service can be slow, it gives you time to look around and spot birds and monkeys in the trees. (Watch out for monkeys keen on your sugar sachets!) I ordered a milkshake and chicken strips and chips, which comes with a barbeque dipping sauce. The strips are thick and tender, and the light meal was enough for me as a small eater. The menu has a variety of food -- the burgers and curries are popular, as are the scones. Parking is readily available on the street outside. There's a play area for kids which was staffed with child minders when we were there on a Saturday, and the kids could make their own Christmas cards. If you have time afterwards, have a stroll through the beautiful garden. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you have visitors from out of town.

Very casual, nice surroundings. Watch families picnicking and kids playing. Watch out for monkeys stealing from tables. Great curries, reasonable prices

We stayed away for many years after our children grew up Then one day last year we decided to return on my wife's birthday What a pleasant suprise The food was great with service to match Later. On for our 58th wedding anniversary we went back on a Sunday - again the food and service was of the best WITH the bonus of a pianist in atendance He was stunningly good .playing requests from everybody with a special for. My wife . When I fall in love. This brought her to tears We went for lunch again today AND again the food and service was of the best In atendance near our table were 2 youg waitresses that once we spilled something we're very fast to clean up and assist us friendly as you please CERTAINLY a place to visit if you want the best food in Durban and children are catered for 100%

The Food and service was great. We Sat out in the garden area. Such friendly people and peaceful atmosphere. The garden surrounding restaurant is beautifully kept with such amazing colours of the flowers. I've also been to the little Zoo before and loved the huge old tortoises šŸ¢ .

Really good food - more than just a toasted sandwich. Great atmosphere and tables well spaced. Friendly lovely service. Great little jungle gym and kids activities with carers keeping an eye on kids. Average adult meal between R70 - R100. We felt very safe and enjoyed our time there. Great family spot

Food was fresh and wholesome with generous portions. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The children's play area is a well kept and safe environment. The clown present was very entertaining and kept the kids busy while we enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant and crisp air around us!

Fantastic cafe for families. Located inside of Mitchell Park, with plenty of street parking outside. Full menu and bar available, with some very lovely options. Fruit smoothies, burgers, curry, and all kinds of breakfast items. Also an inexpensive kids menu. Childminders on staff all the time! (Please tip) The play area is fantastic with slides, ladders, ropes, climbing wall for older kids, play house, and more. Also crayons and play dough available. A great morning or afternoon outing

We haven't visited the Park or Restaurant in years and it really was nice to see how lovely it still is. We had Sunday breakfast, which is served all day, under the trees while a Pianist played at the time we were there. There is a good variety of breakfasts available which were well presented. They also offer a choice of 2 Sunday lunches besides other items on the menu. Recommended.

I hosted a family get together of about 25 people at BlueZoo on Sunday morning (08.11) and I must say that I was surprisingly impressed. Nikki had everything organized prior to our arrival. Our Waitress was fantastic and the food was delicious. The kids had a great time too playing on the jungle gym and doing sand art. The atmosphere was so relaxed and enjoyable. I would highly recommend BlueZoo to anyone having a family get together for either breakfast or lunch. 5 Stars well deserved from me.

lovely food but service a bit slow. It was windy so we asked to be moved inside. They were very accommodating. Great for families or if you have little kids. The food is affordable and not too overpriced.

What awesome way to end the day, after a stroll in Mitchels Park Zoo. This tea garden restaurant is always busy. Service is quick and efficient.

Went for a late Sunday afternoon lunch. The Mrs had the lamb wrap (served with an apparently nice side salad) and I had the deboned lamb curry toasted sandwich (served with chips). Both very good. The service was initially a bit slow and iffy, but once we had a waiter, it became more slick. The patio was full so we chose to sit inside instead of the outside section - ended up quite warm, so rather choose outside on a warm day. Background music was a pianist (not over powering). Will be back to try the orange duck one evening.

I absolutely love the outdoors setting, itā€™s a lovely vibe, the food is nice and the service is also quite nice. Worth a try. Not badly priced either

Beautiful set up and outdoor patio. Lovely to sit outside on a hot day. The waffles that we ordered were good, nothing too spectacular, and the portion of ice-cream that accompanied it was small. Overall good place to chill, with a lovely view of the zoo and park.

Waiters half asleep despite the restaurant being open for almost 45 minutes. Just stared at us when we arrived. Still sitting around packing knives and forks or who knows what.
Our waiter seriously looked high or just plain exhausted and bored.
Muesli fruit and yoghurt breakfast is over priced. They are actually seriously overpriced for a small restaurant/ coffee shop. Not too impressed with this place.

Unlike others I can't give a glowing report for the Blue Zoo. I walked in with my girlfriend as the first customer today to find a group of waiters standing in a circle all the waiters glanced at us and returned to their conversation. After 2 minutes of standing 5 metres away from the group staring at them I walked to the group face to face to ask if they were open. I was told yes so apparently I was just ignored as they couldn't be bothered. The start to the breakfast set the tone for the meal and as someone who has come to the restaurant and park since I was born I was quite shocked at the disregard. On a positive note the health bowl was great and the toasted sandwich was also nice (except it had not been cut in half not sure if that was intended or not but not a major issue). The setting and food on a whole was very nice. Its a lobely very scenic restaurant just being let down by service.

Beautiful setting in the lovely gardens. We ordered toasted sarmies and scones. All very tasty! Tea was hot and service was good. Definitely a good Afternoon

Ridiculously expensive. Will rather bring a picnic from home than support such high charges for food and drink. Had I knew this beforehand.

The rating is mostly because Mitchell Park remains one of my favourite childhood places and it is fabulous to be able to sit at the cafe under the same trees watching the world go by. My mum had been recently for a birthday lunch and rated the service and food (steak for her) as exceptional - today we had toasted sandwich - the bacon & banana was generous & chicken strips which were not bad and I hate to repeat myself but I of course had the scones with cream and jam - I was on holiday after all so twice in a row is a treat ! They were fresh with lovely jam, the cream may have been out of a tin rather than fresh but it was plentiful and I enjoyed. We spent an hour or so under the umbrellas in the shade of the trees listening to the piano tinkling in the background, the delighted shrieking of kids in the wide open park, the birds beginning their early evening chatter and the monkeys laughing overhead - I can't help but love it here ..

The perfect setting for a bloggers gathering set within the grounds of Mitchell park. Live music serenaded us such a treat on a Saturday morning. We sat on the veranda as there was a birthday party indoors. The venue is rather cosy, menu is not too extensive but the portions are huge with sufficent fillings. I opted a veg Tramezzini and a milkshake both were indeed yummy. Service takes sometime as its always busy. I would defo visit again for the famous cream scones for tea.

This is a quaint tea garden situated within Mitchell Park making for a beautiful setting. It is a small venue that overlooks the beautiful garden and has seating both inside and outside. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a cuppa and have a bite to eat. Mitchell Park is always full of activity. I had a milkshake and a vegetarian tramezzini. The milkshake was delightful and the tramezzini a huge portion with yummy filling with feta.

Service is a tad slow but I suppose you donā€™t mind when you are chatting up a storm with good company and have such a charming view. Great for little tea or coffee breaks or a breakfast with the girls.
