A wonderful quaint place to enjoy great food, the only down side is the fact that there was no aircon ! The food was good value for money and really delicious
The Beach Garden Salad is life changing. The service is genuine and put me at ease. A brilliant evening. Thank you The Wok Box I will be back again
Another Durban gem. They have an amazing daily specials list, try their seared tuna on crispy spinach leaves or their wok fried prawns with sweet basil and chili. Intense flavors and great portions size.
Consistent, The Wok Box is a must for many occasions. Their seared tuna on crispy spinach is my go-to dish, and their wine list offers a good selection. Service sometimes slow, every meal had here has still be a winner!
Every item I've tried on the menu has been perfection! I'm a huge fan of the angry chicken and the calamari starter. The staff are also really friendly and accommodating. On request, they have been willing to swap out certain ingredients if need be. Can't wait to be back.
Food is delicious. Decor is plain and it’s very casual. Spicy Peanut Chicken is a winner as well as the Crispy Orange Pork. Service is great.
All their dishes are just delicious! Tom yum soup is my fav, also tried the crispy pork with orange which was amazing! Never been disappointed at the wok box
Love wokbox! Had the massaman curry with the noodles and it was delicious. The veg spring rolls were delicious! Will definitely return soon and try something else!
The Wok Box serves my favorite food. All the different flavors and the quality of the ingredients are always superb. I generally stick to the same meal each time but everything I've tasted has been good.
Food is good, but not very authentic...too much fusion and confusion going on. The steamed fish and the "yakitori" bar is interesting. The waterfall salad is unhealthy but amazing.
Great selection for vegetarians and the tom yum soup was probably the best I've eaten. Service was good given that the restaurant was pretty busy!
We didn't know where to go for dinner so we decided to just drive to one of Durban's best food streets, Mackeurtan Avenue, and decide when we get there. When we arrived we were immediately drawn to the Thai & Chinese combo restaurant that is The Wok Box / Green Parrot.
They were extremely busy, however, we were lucky enough to get a table immediately as one had opened up as we arrived. Unfortunately it took a while for is to get menus or place a drinks order but we were alright with that as we weren't in a rush.
My wife and I decided to buy two different dishes and share as we often do when we go out at we like to try a variety of dishes. We decided to go with a Massaman Curry as well as a Peanut and Coconut stir fry.
The order took approximately 25-30 minutes from the time we order to the the the food was placed on our table. The Massaman looked slightly different to what I was use to but I didn't think too much of it. Both dishes looked delicious and I was starving so we tucked in straight away.
Let's start with the Peanut and Coconut stir fry. I was enjoyed this dish a lot but wish it had a little more of a spice kick. With that said the dish was delicious and definitely something I would order again.
Moving along to the Massaman curry. I've had the privilege of eating Massaman curry at a variety of restaurants locally and in Thailand. I spent a few weeks in Thailand training Muay Thai and lived on Thai food alone. The "Massaman curry" was also delicious but didn't taste like the Massaman curries that I've had previously. It lacked the nuttiness and to be honest I didn't see a single peanut in the dish. The flavor was amazing but tasted closer to a Thai Red Curry than a Massaman curry. When I asked the waiter what curry it was he assured me that it was a Massaman curry.
We decided to get some dessert as the dessert options on the menu and on the chalk wall sounded amazing especially the home made ice cream. When asked what flavored they have the waitress said they only have coconut (if I'm not mistaken) and vanilla. I was hoping for a wider variety so we continued I ask about the desserts on the chalk wall. Out of the 3 desserts on the wall only one was available, the malva pudding and custard, which didn't feel like it when with the food that we had just eaten. I'm the end we skipped dessert and got the bill.
Overall it was an enjoyable evening but there are a number of small issues that could have moved this from a 3.5 to a 4.0.
Every time we come to Durban (which is fairly often) we make a stop here. The food is amazing. We always have the salt and pepper calamari which our kids also love. It's not a linger all day kind of place but the food is seriously good. In our opinion on of the best Thai's in South Africa!
Went for lunch with a friend, and I had the best 1st Thai food experience. Sbo, our waiter was sweet, funny, and informative. After startes of prawn and chicken spring rolls, I opted for the charcoal BBQ and friend rice. Absolutely delicious! Will definitely be back.
The food was spectacular. We had a bunch of starter size meals and a prawn noodle dish and a seared tuna salad.
The chicken satay sauce was the best in Durban. The fried wontons were filled with chicken and the dipping sauce was great. We had, what I would describe as, a Vietnamese spring roll with prawn which was super fresh and crispy. The prawn noodle had all sorts of veggies in and the noodles and prawns were cooked perfectly. I had the seared tuna salad and it was served with crispy fried spinach, a slaw mix and lightly seared tuna.
We went on a Saturday lunch and it was relaxed with super friendly and professional service. We will definitely be back! Well done to the Wok Box Team.
I found the food to be absolutely delicious. The quality surpassed my expectations, offering a delightful experience that feels like a great value for the price paid. Highly recommended for those who appreciate top-notch cuisine without breaking the bank!"
We were so saddened when Street Wok 1 in Mount Edgecombe closed down for sit downs, so it was amazing to find their sister restaurant so close by! All our SW1 favourites in a classy and cosy little spot in Durban North. The waiters were a little overwhelmed, there were many tables and takeaways, but only two waiters on duty payday weekend at lunch which made the service a little slower than we'd like, but this isn't the norm.
Amazing food, great vibe, convenient location!
Try the Peking BBQ chicken with Hoisin and Pancakes or the Crispy Pork Belly with Hoisin and Asian pickle. You will not be disappointed.
Cashew and chili chicken was a winner. Loved the fact that the chilies were on top of the dish and could be skipped if you prefer less heat. Pad thai is an old favourite and consistently done well. Found the Waterfall Salad a bit on the sweet side. Generous starter portion of Salt and Pepper Calamari which was super tender.
Tempted to give 4 stars because of the polystyrene containers, plastic straws and single use chopsticks but the food and service was too good for that. Huge portion of egg fried rice with fresh crunchy vegetables. The vegetable soup was fresh and really hit the spot.
Not a huge selection of alcohol but still good choices. They have Jack Black and CBC on tap as well as Castle and Black Label.
Seating is comfortable and spacious but there weren't any visible wheelchair access points which was a little disappointing.
Menu is also a placemat which was pretty cool and also a little wasteful. Lots of carnivorous options but the vegetarian choices, although fewer, were sufficient.
All in all, great value for money. Worth a visit.
The food was great, flavourful and tasty.
Good location, ample parking.
Fits the name, neat, decent seating.
Good waiting service.
Small menu, easy to choose options.
Food arrives steaming.
Veggie ingredients are super fresh.
Chicken angry curry - phenomenal.
Beef thai fried noodle - remarkable.
Overall great experience, well priced.
Worth my drive from Umhlanga.
I come for the crispy pork with hoisin sauce that's always a winner. They also have a side dish, Crispy spinach that's oddly good as well.
The Wok Box is a quaint Thai restaurant situated in the hub of Durban North. Their crispy spinach is out of this world 😍
Can't go wrong with the Beef and roasted Cashew with the side of jasmine rice. My favourite dish!
Great food, decent prices, what more could you want. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal here.
Delicious comfort food for Friyah take out. Definitely will be worth a second visit for the Nutella spring roll. Really loved the green curry 💯
Noodles are very delicious, soup is delicious, rich, friendly service staff. I'm glad to eat Thai food.ขอบคุณ
The angry curry was really angry. Tasty food. Staff not the friendliest.
The food is amazing !! Delicious, fresh and well priced. The staff was absolutely wonderful on my son's birthday...the allowed me to bring in the cake.... 🎂.. which they set up for me with the candles etc which I'd brought along. Very polite, lovely attitude. The simple decor belies what the place has to offer.
Subsequent visits were equally good. .... however, I took note that the staff tends to get overwhelmed when the restaurant gets busy. They tend to literally run frantically to their various patrons.... this is not good as it takes away the relaxed atmosphere, creating an urgency . Perhaps, more staff on busy nights would facilitate this. 😋💝
