Review The Green Mango - Durban

Stumbled upon this restaurant whilst in search of good sushi. We had a fantastic experience! The sushi was great and the service was excellent. We were provided with advice on our selection and encouraged to try the Green Mango signature sushi which did not disappoint. We will definitely be back!

A cosy restaurant in a secure location with tables inside or out in the building walkway. Serving traditional Asian cuisine consisting of Thai, Japanese and Sushi options, one is definitely spoilt for choice at the Green Mango. Generous portion sizes, specialty dishes in a variety of options (whether your preference is vegetable, chicken, beef etc.) a full service bar and friendly service from the manager makes the Green Mango a definite go-to if you're craving a taste of the Far East.

Really good food, a little on the expensive side but well worth it. Service is good too. Great spot for lunch or a little romantic date.

I was unexpectedly impressed with The Green Mango. Even though it is quite small, it was packed when we dined, and for good reason! The food was lovely, we enjoyed the chilli and basil noodle dish, which was generous in portion, however a bit too spicy for my taste. The sushi was incredibly fresh and tasty, best I've had in a while! Waiter was friendly, however a bit forgetful, but not to be blamed as he seemed to be the only waiter attending the entire restaurant that night. Overall, a cosy restaurant with spectacular cuisine.

I really enjoyed the deliciously fresh tasting salmon roses and the deep fried ice cream. I'd like to come back to try the crispy duck, which i saw someone order . The restaurant is quaint and a lovely choice as a romantic night out.

AMAZING! We had a craving for crispy duck pancakes and decided to order a whole bunch of starters, everything was totally delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed, the crispy duck, corn cakes, dimsum, satay and spring rolls, we will be back soon. Our server, Kyle was attentive but not invasive. We will be back!

So grateful to Duane and the team for helping to make a special function for our colleague extra special. Outstanding personalized service, excellent food and a friendly professional venue all round - highly recommended and will definitely be back!

Green Mango is my go-to place to get Sushi. Plus some specials like the crispy duck, angry duck (it is pretty angry), whole fish, crab, and at the end of the meal some deep fried ice-cream. Its not a chain - its a one-man -and-his-wife operation, so quality control is excellent. During the day, booking is not normally needed. At night its better to call first. Parking is easy.

This is a lovely little tucked away authentic Asian restaurant that also serves sushi. We always enjoy our meal here. They serve a lovely miso soup and the owner gives top notch service.

Had a quick bite to eat here. Over priced to be honest. The food isn't bad but definitely not amazing for what is charged. Kung Fun Kitchen is better and more affordable. Spring rolls were much too dark and tempura prawns were soggy. Crispy calamari was more dried calamari than crispy. Chicken Satay was lovely though! Will try somewhere else for Asian cuisine.

I’m torn between moaning about the slightly rude service and commending the food.

But since we had a large table, and the setup shouts ‘casual dining’ which maybe doesn’t point at impeccable service; I’d bear that in mind and order the deep-fried egg plant and ramen again, because it was actually really good.

Went for supper on Friday 24.11.2017. The sushi was good but the usual food was terrible. I would have rather paid not to eat the food. The fish was sour and was a bit cold. It tasted as if the ingredients were old, frozen and defrosted and served . Really not worth it.. Very dissipointing..

Poor service..... useless waitrons. The food was just as dull. Had a variety of dishes and none compared to another other Thai places we've visited around The coasts of SA. Never to be repeated.

Great food, excellent service and a wide variety on offer. Don't let the setting, furniture and ambiance put you off - certainly don't do the food any justice.

Quaint little unpretentious restaurant sandwiched between Joops Place and 9th avenue bistro
Went for quick dinner and they were fast efficient and friendly.
Ordered prawn dim sum - delicious but dim sum did disintegrate
Main was their famous crispy duck with noodles - outstanding
Don't expect great decor but food is above average
Perfect for take-away or quick meal

Love it. Our favorite Durban restaurant at the moment. Good service, nice and casual. Caters to all our families varied tastes. The crispy duck and chicken for us (phenomenal), sushi for the daughter and son in law and noodles for son. The stir fried veggies are also a big hit

Being in Durban for one night on a business trip, my boss suggested this spot as its low key & not far from the hotel.
They have a small selection of Durban craft bears.
I ordered the beach salad which was quite surprising with its bed of crunchy spinach topped with chicken strips and a light dressing.

Absolutely amazing.
The service is friendly and homely.
The food was great. I had the crispy duck and my partner the Fujiyama combo, both, thoroughly enjoyed. And the espresso to finish of the evening was priceless.
When we went ages ago to the Durban venue the food and the choices we had were excellent. When will the new Green Mango in
Umhlanga be reviewed?

If the name of the game is sushi, Green Mango definitely takes a prize. It's always great to see your sushi made in front of you , the added bonus is that the chef is legit Japanese ( makes it even cooler /authentic). Ingredients are fresh and prepared pretty quickly. More than Satisfying for a sushi craving. Their speciality sushi is also good if you want to let your tastebuds explore a tad.

I visited Green Mango for the 4th time last evening with a monthly dinner companion. Fortunately I had taken the trouble to reserve a table because by 19.30hrs the restaurant was full.
Oddly we both chose the same main course of crispy duck served with noodles. The duck was crispy and delicious. If I order the duck again I may try it with fries rice. Out starter was a share dim sum which too was commendable.
Our food was accompanied by a reasonably priced Savignon Blanc which was recommended by the ever present and efficient Ashley.
A restaurant that needs no background music as it is alive with customers conversations and laughter is to me a happy restaurant and I do not hesitate in recommending this eatery.
We will definitely visit again soon.

This is the 3rd time I have eaten at green mango. Previously I had good experiences, but now I am completely disgusted. Both with the quality of food and the owners lack of manners.

The tom yum soup was good. The sushi was however worse than any I have ever had. Definitely not fresh. I still have a bad taste in my mouth.

My mum ordered a crispy chicken meal. It was cooked with stale oil and had no unique taste to make it a chefs speciality. In fact, it was just deep fried chicken. The chicken did not taste fresh either. And when we commented, the owner kept going on to her staff behind the counter about how nothing was wrong with the chicken and giving my mother looks. This is horrendous behavior!!!! I will never recommend Green Mango to anyone.

We are such fans of sushi and when we found this place we had to try it.

We went on a Saturday night. It was very quiet. There were about 4 tables including us. The sushi was good but it is very pricey. They don't do specials like most other sushi restaurants. The service was ok, not very friendly. There is a lack of a vibe there which is pity because it is in between two great restaurants!

I visited green Mango after looking online for a sushi place that I had yet been to. The restaurant had really good reviews online and also talks about half price specials. The restaurant was really quiet with only one other table being occupied when we got there. It is in a corner of a small shopping centre.

The sushi although satisfactory is on the pricey side. When I asked about the special I was told they don’t ever do special deals of any kind. The restaurant is very much lacking any kind of atmosphere or ambience. The staff are also terribly inattentive. They won’t be getting a second visit from me sadly.
