Review Antique Cafe - Durban

Absolutely loved it. Went for lunch on Saturday afternoon, the staff was friendly and we were attended to swiftly. The food was okay, I would've hoped that they served all day breakfast, but they do not so I had a wrap instead which was delicious. It is a very beautiful spot, very earthy with that cool feel. Definitely going back to try their breakfast.

Lovely restaurant, great and interesting menu, very unusual but delicious. Quirky interesting styling. Indoor and outdoor private seating. Very friendly owner/manager and staff. Kids really love it too. Highly recommended. Personalised drinks and amazing friendly owner!

Amazing food and service. The waitress Zama and the chef were very friendly and helpful. The store has a charming aesthetic filled with antiques, as the name suggests

I had the pleasure of hosting a baby shower at this stunning establishment last weekend. The staff were extremely accommodating! Our waiter, Nkanyiso, was attentive and helped us set up the decor while attending to our every request to make the baby shower run smoothly. The food was divine and the owner was welcoming. Thanks for making our day a memorable one! I will definitely be back.

Amazing food. Beautiful space. Excellent service. This is a faultless and favourite spot of mine, serving Halaal breakfast food all day long. They have a cat that is super friendly and just makes the visit that much more enjoyable. Their coffee and fresh juices are also divine. Their staff is exceptionally good at making you feel both prioritised/seen to and comfortable while dining. There is a peaceful ambiance to this restaurant, one that you enter smiling and leave with a well satisfied appetite.

Great food and ambience. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. Food was prepared very quickly. Lovely presentation and great flavors. Coffee was also nice and steaming for a cold winters morning. Beans were full roast and made for a good cuppa. Rest rooms were immaculately clean and modern. You can tell the pride that is taken by staff and management of the establishment. Customer service and customer satisfaction is important to them. This gives patrons a nice warm environment to dine in. Keep up the great work. Lastly there is ample on street parking both on the main road and the little slip way.

Very friendly with a smile they greeted us. Also thanked us for comming. As for the food very delicious and have an excellent variety. I loved this place . I will for sure go there again. My advice an excellent venue with a lovely atmosphere is a place to go for your breakfast. Most of all not an expensive place.

Amazing experience! Super friendly and welcoming staff. Delicious food and great atmosphere. We ordered brioche French toast and the corn fritters with salmon.

Food was very tasty, loved the atmosphere as well, the only shortfall I feel is the food portion sizes are a tad bit small for the price, hollandaise sauce could do with some heat as it was cold. However the vibe and look and feel in this restaurant is amazing, the gentlemen at the door was full of energy and unlike other restaurants, he greets and welcomes you and thanks you when you leave, there's a venue to hire as well that's great to host a kids party, about 45 to 50 people and they also cater at reasonable prices! I do recommend this establishment and will be back!

A very fascinating restaurant. Its quaint and rustic with amazing vintage decor and ambiance. The indoor and outdoor seating is nothing like I've seen in Durban. The staff are were very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. The food was excellent. The service was great. There is off road parking. Wheelchair accessibility might be a challenge here. Definitely in the outside seating.

Food was great, friendly staff 🥰 would definitely recommend!

The Antique Cafe is thus far the best restaurant I've been at this year. A Real Find. The place is amazing, it takes me back in time and reminds me of my grans home, it's filled with warmth and wonderful antique pieces. Let me Tell you about the Staff. The Most Friendly, Helpful, Informative people, so warm and funny and kind, a lovely experience they made for us. They also check up on us and gave us everything we needed and more. The Food, oh the food was Amazing. Flavourful, Texture, Presentation a Million over a hundred. It's so Wonderful, cosy and Warm inside and so airy, light and pretty outside. Aesthetics are a million percent my favourite, plants, trees, antique pieces, furniture, crockery. I am Overjoyed and made the most wonderful decision choosing this place.

What a well spent morning at this charming place. Food, ambience and service tick all the boxes.

Lovely brunch atmosphere. New ownership really did a good job giving this place a more friendly vibe. Menu was a bit too extensive but food was fresh and delicious. The few vegan options were good. Our waiter was brilliant, lively and on the ball. Prices could be a tad bit on the expensive side once you realize the actual portion size. Parking is roadside. Facilities are clean and neat. Live music on weekends I think.

I always frequent this little gem even when the previous Italian owner opened the trendy joint. And his vision lives on with the current owner who is doing a spectacular job, continuing to bring on delicious additions to the menu. The weekend musician is great, creating melodious entertaining music. Yash, with her lovely flowers and awesome personality complements this joint to perfection. The one thing I miss are the other quiirky little shops that sold antique furniture and jewelry. This created the perfected fit. The sale of make-up and other commercial stuff will destroy the original vibe and departs from the actual theme.

Having been what I would say a fairly regular and die hard patron of this quaint establishment for over 2 years : singing its praises and recommending it, through owner / management change, some questionable service and then a truly positive and welcome change, I find it really difficult to award even 1 star today. In a word ''unacceptable". We waited 15 minutes for cappuccinos. Only 2 out of the 4 arrived. Waitress didn't know we wanted 4. Then my stepson and I ordered desserts with our cappuccinos, while my other son ordered a toasted sandwich. We waited nearly 45 minutes before I got up and enquired why our order was taking so long. We were never offered more coffee or an apology / excuse. My chocolate slice arrived without the accompanying ice cream. I had to ask for that. My stepson only realised when we left that his malva pudding never had cream. We had long finished our desserts before my older son's toasted sandwich arrivda. We sat and watched him eat - no-one visited our table again. The customary water on the table also was nowhere in sight. I got up twice to ask if we could have some water...never came. I think this is the last straw for me. I will vote with my feet....turning my back on this one. A pity. The setting and food was great when they got it right.

I love this place. It's so warm and inviting. The staff is absolutely amazing. Richard is my number one guy. He is so pleasant and friendly. He gives you enough info with regards to the menu. The food is amazing but my favorite is the baby beesting. I am lost for words here as every bite is like heaven in your mouth. You can't help but close your eyes and enjoy. Please guys go check out the place and I promise you that you will not be disappointed. #iloveantiquecafe

Visited this gem every day for the beginning of last year, love love love good coffee, good food, the cutest coffee shop I've ever found in Durban and the staff are so friendly

Delicious food, excellent and warm service from all staff (my husband's sentiments are that even the pigeons here are friendly ) and beautiful vibe and atmosphere. The breakfast here is a winner!
Brenda Harding
Fabulous food, beautifully prepared and presented. The chick pea salad was amazing, the steak roll was fantastic and the beesting cake was blow your hair back good. The staff are wonderful attentive without intruding, cheerful and helpful. this is definitely a place to revisit

Excellent, attentive service and a beautiful slice of heaven in the city. The Bee Sting was delicious too, such light and fluffy sponge cake, yum yum in my tum!
Kantha Naicker
Love the quirky, homey feel of this place. The food and music is just divine. The owner himself rolls up his sleeves and gets things done. Certainly tops my list

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to host a gender reveal at the Antique Cafe today. Compliments to staff for extremely proffessional service at all times, even when they had to move tables around. Food was excellent, atmosphere very festive and even allowing us to be very loud during the reveal. Highly recommended. 10/10

Most pleasant and was surprised by the decor. Real olde world charm. The service was good. Thanks to my beautiful granddaughter Courtney Hales for introducing me to "hang-out". Will definetly return. The avo and cheese was delish
Sivannah Padayachee
I loved the antique decor, quick service and food was good. Had a divine cumin sauce with poached eggs. Loved the many lamb dishes on the menu. Will definitely return.

This is a true gem. What is their secret??? You can go there anytime, and they are buzzing! Delicious food. Friendly staff. Relaxed patrons.
Richard Hipkin
Great place, very rustic and full of character... And the ice coffe, wow - was more like a coffee milkshake. Delicious! Great for the trendy hipster type.

The best salad I've ever had A unique concept with great quality and service.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this place, It is quaint and so unique with all its mismatched furniture and crockery. The food is super, I have had their avo toast with cream cheese, so good! I have been there for a few events and the staff are so efficient as well. I have taken my mom and friends there on occasion, its just such a cute place. I cannot wait to return for our annual KZN blogger meet up soon!

I understand what they’re doing with Antique Cafe...trying to create a “nature” vibe within the city :-)
It’s lovely with every detail talking to the antique theme. Cappuccinos were really good! I had the sweet corn scrambled eggs with lamb rashers for breakfast. It was good but I realized I’m not a fan of lamb rashers!

What a surprise when you enter, antique Cafe 100%, the decor is unusual, rustic, but beautiful, when you sit outside the restaurant what tranquility, even my kids where fascinated by the art and decor. Food was fresh and delicious, breakfast menu is perfect for those who don't eat Pork. Service was good, the place get packed quickly, best to reverse a table to avoid disappointment, definitely will go back to try the lunch menu.
Shannon Edwards
Such a unique atmosphere in terms of decor, music and design. I adore the entire rustic setup of the restaurant. Friendly staff and all around good coffee and Avo toast breakfast.

Got to have my birthday breakfast at this spot and what a lovely experience it was. From the time I entered I was in total amazement! The venue is a unique and the food absolutely delicious. The dessert was a spontaneous decision but probably one of the best decisions! This cafe is highly recommended and I can’t wait for my next visit ☺️
Tam Loves Food
I loved the atmosphere of this little spot! The decor, the design. I spent as much time wandering around admiring the walls as I did eating my meal.
The meal wasn't as exciting as the café itself. We had come for brunch and found most of the food to be average. Well presented but a bit on the bland side.
Marga Sander
What a lovely place! I loved the decor, design, setting. You name it, I loved it. The food was divine and the staff very friendly. I can recommend the bee sting cake and zucchini fries. And it’s served on beautiful eclectic crockery. BUT... sadly the service is SERIOUSLY slow... if you want to go for a quick coffee, don’t count on it. If you planning on taking a long-isch lunch, with friends, Antique Cafe is definitely perfect.

very cute and cosy setup. Waited a couple minutes to be seated until i went up to a waitress.Manager was very friendly.Had the antique breakfast which was very tasty .Overall i would definitely go back.

Love the different flavours and combinations of food! Ideal for having a garden breakfast with friends and family. French toast is my favourite!
Calyn Hilder
The atmosphere is so nice and quaint. Makes you feel like you are in Morocco or something. Amazing food and drinks. Reasonable prices too. We will be back

Fantastic ambience, very peaceful and friendly with a charming quirkiness. The Bee Sting is unique and a must try. Really great place. Great service. Great food. Recommend it for a get together or just a quiet tea while reading.
Trish
Great breakfast that is beautifully presented. The setting is out if the ordinary and we loved the outdoor garden seating. There was a violinist that added to the serene and relaxing ambience. Service was lacking from our waiter with 2 x drinks, and then one meal forgotten, however the manager was quick to action and rectify once alerted.
Megan Batty
The staff are all very friendly, great setting, very beautiful, the cuppachino is very nice too, I have not tasted the food yet however, the food does look amazing. Definitely worth a try.
Tasmika Amin
Beautiful, unique setting with lots to catch the eye and admire decor wise.

Service was friendly and efficient.

It was however the food that let this spot down.

The lamb flatbread and sandwhich was overwhelmed by the strong tomato flavour (almost as though it hadn't been cooked out for long enough). Zucchini and sweet potato fries were soft instead of crispy, though the seasoning was interesting.

Overall a little disappointing for such an intially promising spot.
#dinningonholiday #AntiqueCafe

Beautiful, quint setting with amazing food and the freshest of ingredients used. I absolutely loved the mismatched tea cups and atmosphere with live classical music being played.

The fact that I could order breakfast at noon was deff a deal breaker! Also, it's halaal, double bonus.
The food was delicious and well presented. I thoroughly enjoyed everything, from the breakfast, to the flat breads, their salads & wraps and even their pasta! Also, their pepper-dew chilli is AMAZING and compliments each dish! No fault could be found. Their Chai latte and White hot chocolate is a must 😍.

Their service was impeccable and thorough. I ordered my hot drink thinking that the wait from the order to the meal would be a while, I was mistaken. I wasn't even half way done when my meal arrived. We were served with a smile and everything was taken into consideration.
Antique Cafe is a must!
Gee
This is one beautiful place, very rustic look and feel. There is just something super cozy about this place. Food was great and the staff are on point and very friendly. Absolutely enjoyed our time there. Will definitely go back.

I went for a baby shower which was held outside. The area was adorable with a vintage feel. The food was amazing. They had a lovely spread. They set up a long table in a secluded area for us. It could have used something to stop leaves falling in our food, but that is a small objection. The servers were really nice and gave us space.
Lungelo Mnguni
A gem in the city. A timeless place oozing with tranquility. The food is to die for. The service is great. Very chilled, even though they don't serve alcohol but the food really does makes up for it.
Reneilwe Letlonkane
What! No alcohol 😂 oh but the food made up for it. We didn't know you can't drink here for religious reasons , but it needs no drinks anyway. The food was ridiculously good , the lamb everything was juicy and succulent - from the chops to the sausage to the "bacon" ! The sweet potato fries. A moment please for these.

Ok and then the chilli and tomato chutneys. So I and my mates had a food explosion at breakfast here. I'm sure you can tell. And the price , oh my word , look we're from joburg so anything under R100 puts a worried look on our faces. But nah ah, great value for money was the order of the day.

Cosy place, nice white hot chocolate. The vintage look adds a certain feel to the place. Though I would love more variety of food. Nice place.

Beautiful, quaint setting with amazing food. Fresh ingredients with a quirkiness to it. Love the mismatched tea cups and the atmosphere. Definitely a place for a girl's luncheon.
Eman.uts
The place is nice, but we did not like the food. We ordered Shakshokah which was not tasty at all and full of cumin. We ordered also carrot cake then when we asked to bring it they said we don't have! You could tell us before to order another one!
Noluthando.mthembi
AMAZING food, compliments to the chef - everything is fresh and made in-house which is a huge bonus. Love the ambience too, will definitely keep coming back 😁

Good breakfast. Friendly service. Original condiments. We liked the vibe and would gladly return. The macon was a good substitute for bacon, good option.

As you step inside, you immediately feel like you are home, literally!

While still amazed by the interior, the look and feel of the eatery, you are welcomed by very lovely staff, you honestly feel like you are hosted by a family, that's the beauty of Antique Cafe, very true to its name, the back table setup is amazing, so refreshing and relaxing.

I would definitely recommend this eatery, without a doubt!

The only reason I'm not giving this establishment 5 stars is because I only had coffee and the home made lemonade (no food). It is the most beautiful coffee shop I've ever been to. The cappuccino and lemonade were both excellent. Friendly service and a relaxed vibe add to this experience. I'll be back next time I visit Durbs.
Kev
Quaint place in central durbz. Had the special big boy breakfast, lamb sausage breakfast , eggs Benedict. All in all - pretty damn good. Waiters were switched on. Cool retro experience and great coffee!
Natasha Lynne Ashley
We went to antique cafe for cake and coffee and were blown away by how lovely the interior is. The beesting cake is a must try and the scone is delicious. Make sure to look around the antique shop and the flow shop. It is a real hidden gem and a great way to spend an afternoon.
Indy
Wonderful! The decor, atmosphere, service ... had sweet corn fritters with salmon and avo. Divine.
One unpleasant weakness: zero vegan options. Can't be too difficult to add a few surely? I'll go back to check and maybe stay for another meal if they oblige.
Zakir Mahomedy
Love this place. Atmosphere is fabulous. Food is good service is great. Been a few times. Wish they would expand on their vegan vegetarian options as it is limited.

Literally the most darling place I've been to in a while. As you walk in, the hustle and bustle of Durban dies down and you find yourself in an eclectic space where colours meet shapes meet mismatched tables yet they all look perfectly comfortable with each other.
It looks like it was decorated by mistake but each piece has a purpose and plays a role in the bigger story.
I was able to order breakfast at 14:30 which just cemented the place in my heart.
I had the sweet potato fritters with caramelized onions & lamb sausages. I enjoyed the food but the ambiance of the place outshines the food.
There are actual antique shops on either side of the cafe so you can meander through racks of clothes and trinkets while you digest your meal.. Simply gorgeous.

The Antique Cafe.

The moment I stepped into this Cafe, I knew the food was going to be good.

The cafe has a good atmosphere and is decorated very well in a vintage style. There is a boutique at the Cafe as well in which you could browse and buy some vintage clothes.

This day, I had decided to get healthy again and I had ordered a pot of Rooibos tea with a mango, nut and cucumber salad, which was unique and filling.

The service is really good too

I enjoyed my visit to the Antique Cafe.🌷

Seriously how difficult is it to make a breakfast! I am struggling to see how this place gets a coffee award. Honestly this would be the last of a list of fifty or more coffee or breakfast places I would pick. Just gonna put it out there lamb rashers Dont bother terrible slow service, coffee that is average at best, off milk served. Yup cheapish so be it, will not be returning.
Daniel France
Really unique place that has a wonderful charm to it. The decor really is fascinating an the general ambience is very relaxed. However the food took a long time and the service wasn't the greatest either with two forgotten drink orders. It wasn't that busy either so I'm not sure why the wait for food was so long.

When the food did arrive it was delicious though. Only the eggs were poached hard and I had requested medium. They're halaal and so lamb rashers instead of bacon; I may never go back! The lamb rashers were such a win I wish more places did it. The hollandaise sauce didn't look that nice but the taste more than made up for it.

All in all a nice experience, the food and decor makes up for the slow but friendly service.

Beautiful and quaint lil spot in the most unusual places in durban.. its a house converted into a restaurant with beautiful local businesses around it. The food is very original and absolutely delicious! !! I'd highly recommend the bee sting cakes and iced coffee.. Their milkshakes are also rather yummy.. not too rich and just the right amount of thickness to go down smoothly. The best part about this lil gem is the garden setting focused around nature and hidden tea cups and saucers in the pot plants. The vintage garden setting and local musicians playing/singing is just a personal touch to the antique cafe.. also love that it's all about empowering small local businesses. Keep up the great work antique cafe 👌

Visited with a friend last year. What a charming little happiness-inducing place! Loved it. The highlight was definitely their savoury muffin.

It was my first time going there, it is very cute and cosy. Perfect place to go with close friends, the outside is also very beautiful and picturesque and there is a vintage shop adjacent to the cafe. I love it, the service is great, the food is refreshing, healthy and delicious. I will be definitely going there again.

Stopped by the Antique Cafe by complete chance and was very pleasantly surprised. Had a like lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. Simple, small menu, friendly staff and the food was very good. I'd definitely go back.
