Review Lupa Osteria Durban North - Durban

My partner and i wanted a later dinner and we got there 20 mins before 21:00. We were warmly welcomed. Ordered our food andci was well recived. The waitress was bery friendly and she attended to very nicely, her service was delightful. The food was delicious and well presented. We enjoyed our stay there the whole time. Sidenote (a question rather) what is up with those extra salty sticks you have on the table? Ooh my God, im still wondering if they are just a snack or they are offered serve a different purpose. Hold up on the salt though😂😂😂 (im kidding)

Super awesome place. The most important made my child feel welcome and having the best things for her to do. As well our waitress, Abigail, awesome!!! She was the best paying attention to the smallest of details.

I recently had the pleasure of attending a staff function at Lupa Osteria Durban North, and I must say that the experience left me thoroughly impressed. Not only were the meals delicious and wholesome, but the portions were also generous enough to be shared between two people. One of the highlights of my dining experience was undoubtedly the breadsticks. They were perfectly baked, with a crispy exterior and a soft, warm center. The aroma alone was enough to make my mouth water. Paired with their hummus, it was an absolute delight for my taste buds. In fact, I can confidently say that it was the best hummus I have ever eaten. The menu at Lupa Osteria offers a wide variety of options to cater to different tastes and dietary preferences. From delectable pasta dishes to succulent meat dishes and, there is something for everyone. The attention to detail in each dish is evident in both presentation and taste. The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy yet elegant, making it an ideal setting for any occasion - be it a casual lunch or a special celebration. The staff members are friendly and attentive, ensuring that every customer feels welcome and well taken care of. After such an exceptional dining experience, I am certain that I will be returning to Lupa Osteria in the near future. It has undoubtedly earned its place as one of my favorite restaurants in town.

Amazing experience. It is by far the best Italian restaurant in Durban. The manager Sean can really bring some great service that makes you feel part of the family. A really good idea is to bring the whole family here. Food is out of this world.

A small restaurant with a huge menu. Although your vegan options are pretty limited. 3 orders were the same except for our portion sizes. One was huge whilst the others were starter sizes. One was terribly overcooked as the penne was split open. Flavours were good though.

Great service! Friendly staff! And the food is absolutely amazing. My family and I love eating here and we will definitely come back soon!

Honestly the best Lupa I have eaten at; from the service to the excellent tasting food. The staff were well informed with regard to the menu (food and drinks) and did not make any mistakes with our orders. We were a large group of 10 people. We will be back.

We had a lovely light Sunday lunch, their half portions are very generous. Good pasta, even if a little overcooked, perhaps we should have told the server we prefer our pasta a little al dente, but outstanding tomato sauce. Priced well.

Great service: very friendly, smiling waitress. All enjoyed their food, including the veg pasta dish.

Lovely place, manager, owner and waitress all lovely and welcoming. Happy to adjust dishes on menu as requested. Offered a taste of there house wine which is very nice so we bought a bottle. At end they offered us a shooter on the house. A great evening out! Thanks

Great atmosphere and good vegetarian options. Their focaccia and veg pastas are amazing.

The food was great, the people were great, the ambiance was great and everything lived up to my expectations. I'll be sure to visit again very soon. 😊👌💯

I don’t write reviews, but man, this was a shocker.

There isn’t a listing for the new Florida restaurant, so I’ll write this here. Waited over an hour for three simple pizzas, one of which wasn’t right, and the other only arrived once everyone else had finished their meal. Horrible service. Nice food but not worth the hassle when there are plenty of great pizza places on the strip and nearby.

To be honest, I generally like Lupa and have enjoyed the food. Today I received terrible service and a dishonest waiter. He forgot my meal and told me that the meal was on its way until I eventually asked him and he admitted to forgetting. He then gave me a starter portion instead of a main missing a key ingredient (basil leaves in a very simple Caprese salad) after the rest of the table had almost finished their meals. He did not return to ask how the meal was which I generally characterize as acceptable service. Another guest at the table asked for a takeaway. Again he forgot, and denied that she had asked him. Admittedly I was not happy after the dishonesty and stopped being friendly. I was given a nasty look upon leaving after still tipping 20% despite the bad service. I would like management to consider this comment as I will no longer recommend what was my favourite restaurant.

I would like to consider myself to be a tough critic ,and I would like to complement lupa on there quality meals ..very quickly moved into one of my favourite places to dine

Although the service was quite slow, the Parma pizza I had was one of the better ones I’ve had. Situated just off the main broadway, decent vibe at this place.

Lupa Osteria is a very warm and welcoming restaurant...especially when durban was cold and rainy outside! I decided to go with two starters...the Gorgonzola snails and the pretzel crusted calamari. I enjoyed both. My niece had a margarita pizza which was really good...luv the thin based crust!

Food: 3
Service: 3
Ambiance: 3

Lupa Broadway being one of the 4 branches is probably known for the worst service. The service by the waiters is almost as if they really don't want you to come back which is sad as the food is really great. I still go back tho hoping that one day a waiter will be happy to be at work and to offer great service. Ice is really good!!!

Lovely food! Had a spaghetti aglio olio - prawn spaghetti. Added chilli.. Was delightful. Pizza Was delectable. Jayd Naidoo tried the hot chick Pizza. Thoroughly enjoyed!

Friendly staff. Loved the restaurant. Will definetly be back.

I have been going to Lupa for about 2 years now but the meal we had last Friday was extremely disappointing to say the least. The impression I got is that the original chef has left and has been replaced with someone who was trained in a fast food joint. The calamari was tasteless, the spagehetti dishes lacking inspiration and sauce. The the chef had no idea what a salti bocco was. I was presented with a thick club steak smothered in some kind of spurs sweet sauce which was promptly sent back. Never again until they get properly trained chefs.

Lupa in Broadway is serving up the most delicious food! Dining there is always a happy experience as the ambiance is warm and friendly and on. Friday night, positively buzzing! The waitrons are all well-trained, helpful and they know the menu well. Last night we had quite a wait for our good as the restaurant was packed, but all was forgiven once our pizzas arrived. Those are some of the best pizzas in Durban with light crispy bases and delicious, unusual toppings. The deserts were equally imaginative and beautifully presented.
We will definitely be back!

First time trying the broadway Lupa, and I must say it was the best Lupa experience to date.
The barman introduced us to an Italian gin Malfy - it's my new favorite drink. I ordered the lasagne which was well seasoned and homely and my partner ordered the hot chick pizza. Both plates were clean - food was great. Staff were friendly and prices are decent. Was too excited about my Malfy finding to take food pics.

Service and welcoming was excellent. Food was outstanding. Definitely recommend this restaurant and thry make their own pasta which is superb! 🖒

Fantastic restaurant, food is incredibly yum. Had the fettuccine con pollo and the fettuccine marinara. Loved it, presentation on form, food is full of flavor, huge portions, service is quick and efficient. Awesome setting too! Definitely coming back.

I spotted Italian Nachos on the menu and couldn’t resist it. There was nothing traditional about it, but it was delicious. Crispy on the outside, the pasta was still tender, with a ricotta filling. This is a large starter, and rich too, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you were planning a starter and a main. I had it as a light lunch so ordered a side dish of the baby marrows too. This wasn’t a great decision as the ravioli would have been enough on it’s own, but it was delicious anyway.

My son had the Gnocchi Fantasia which was excellent. The gnocchi was very good and it comes with two different sauces, a rich blue cheese sauce on one half and a a creamy Italian sauce on the other – the best of both worlds.

There are plenty of more traditional options too.

It’s not easy to comment on the service as we ate very early so there weren’t too many diners competing for attention, I’ve been there when it’s hectic too, and have had no concerns with the service.

What a lovely place. Our waiter Thabani was excellent and so patient with us, a large table of 12. Delicious italian pastas and pizzas. Their cocktail menu isn't very large but our waiter did offer some special cocktails for Gin Week. Their palette cleansing limencello is so yummy and on the house.

I was here on Friday last week. I aged about 10 years waiting for a table. Some of the food is bland which is a disappointing because the menu has a lot of these meals you hardly find elsewhere. I really don't get how you can make something with bacon and mushrooms taste awful. You guys owe the bacon in my pasta an apology. On the upside, I enjoyed my basil mojito. On the upside.

Had the Lupa pasta, have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Wifey had pulled pork, unfortunately no Gnocchi was avalaible. Snails starters was the best I've had in a while. Lemonchellos was a nice pallet cleanser. Waiter had good food knowledge just felt a bit rushed.

Really thought i'd rate this place a 4. I loved the inside decor and the mood the place set. Staff was very pleasant but the food set me back. I ordered the sushi pasta. More like a tuna pasta, no taste, nothing like the waitress described and in the end a real disappointed.
Pranesha Padayachy
Lovely homely Italian food! I had the artichoke starters which was wonderful and a pasta for mains. The pasta was perfectly al dente and well flavored!

I absolutely love Lupa! Hillcrest, Westville & Broadway! Lovely chilled vibe but still perfect for that special occasion, professional service and guaranteed delicious top quality, unique and modern Italian dishes every single time. Get their new starter - crumbed artichokes (see photo)! And the veal escalopes with lemon, white wine & cream sauce. Yuuuummm! Whenever I am in Durban I love going to Lupa Osteria. Generally, I find the food delicious, wait staff attentive and ambiance inviting. However, my experience there tonight was subpar.

The menu has been changed and my favorite meal, the Della Nona, has been taken off the menu. So instead I ordered the butternut ravioli in a creamy napoli sauce which I thought was average. Additionally, when I received it it was cold.

Furthermore, there was a family seated next to us whom were very noisy. This further dampened my evening there. I think that the tables are spaced far too closely together, so if you are looking for a quiet dinner to unwind I do not think this is the place for you.

Albeit the average food and noisy patrons I must say that the wait staff are always attentive and friendly.

I'm not quite ready to write off this restaurant and I will visit it again despite my experience tonight, perhaps the one in Hillcrest instead.

Went to Lupa Osteria with a few friends. I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli. The dish tasted extremely fresh, albeit lacking a bit of flavour in the filling. The other dishes at our table were generally good, but I didn't hear any rave reviews. Very cool vibe though. The interior of the restaurant is perfectly suited for anything from drinks for friends to a sophisticated dinner. Will try Lupa again.

If this review is solely based on the food then it's a definite 2.5. My group of diners chose Lupa because we heard that they had a great Christmas menu, unfortunately it didn't sound very special and we stuck to the normal menu. For starters we had foccaccia, chicken livers and the stuffed calamari special (the only saving grace). For mains we had 1) pizza- the base and crust was soggy and had absolutely no crisp to it. 2) half a chicken and calamari combo- which was very dry. 3) steak and zucchini fries- which was seasonless and just okay, nothing great. 4) sushi pasta special- great theoretical idea but not very practical. I was so looking forward to Lupa, only to be disappointed by the food. Eventually opted for churros at Republik for dessert.

From walking in to leaving the experience and service are top drawer
We had drinks at the bar and the attention of the staff was evident from the onset
The FOOD was sublime and I can't believe this place has been under our noses all this time.
WOW
Our waiter could easily have served in any posh restaurant but was able to still bring the chilled vibe that this restaurant lends itself to.
Our Barman
Our waiter
Champions

Visited Lupa last night for my anniversary and I am so impressed. The restaurant is beautiful, atmosphere is lovely, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is spectacular. Italian is my favourite cuisine and this has become my new favourite restaurant. For starters we ordered the Italian nachos which was delicious. For mains, I ordered the Carbonara which was lovely. My boyfriend ordered the Avo Balsamic Fillet. It was absolutely incredible. Steak was made to perfection and all the flavours worked brilliantly together. Will definitely be visiting again!

This was our first time at Lupa. The restaurant had a pleasant vibe. The food was great and very reasonably priced. Will definitely go again.

You know sometimes you're having a meal and you think to yourself "I'm gonna sleep like a baby after this meal" I had that moment. Second time at this restaurant. I quite like it. My meal was so delicious, I swear the chicken melted in my mouth it was so tender and succulent.

This is the best pasta I have ever eaten, ever. Service is brilliant, decor is beautiful and THE FOOD. By far the greatest Italian restaurant I've eaten at - well done guys!

Lupa is officially my favorite Italian joint in Durban. Mainly for their out of this world pasta. Been there twice so far and I absolutely loved it. Everything from the layout/décor, to the friendly staff and food/drinks. Love the space its in. Can't wait till I got back.

The only thing i do not enjoy about this restaurant is how noisy it is(but it is an italian restuarants)and how the service was a bit "lost". Food was very good.
Qhawe Luthuli
Lovely establishment. Modern Italian restaurant. My dad had the 1/2 chicken and calamari with a side of spinach. Lovely, full of flavour. Had the Paolos pizza - good snap on the crust but a bit dry.
What I don't like about this restaurant was how loud it was and the service. Waiters seemed kinda lost. Our waitress made a mistake with my order and tried to deny my special request.

Been to Lupa twice in the past week and was so pleasantly surprised by both my lunch and dinner dining experiences! The food was full of flavor and portions were generous but the highlight has to be the great service and friendly staff, upon leaving the first time we were phoned to get feedback on the restaurant and the second a large group of girls and I were given a round of drinks on the house! Keep up the good job a place like this was much needed in Durban 👍🏽👍🏽

I am a fan of Lupa - having eaten at the Westville branch a few times. I think I've found my preferred branch. Great service - super attentive yet not annoying and great food. Had the butternut pasta - I've tried all the vegetarian pizzas so I opted for a pasta this time. It was delicious. Well flavoured and seasoned. Would definitely recommend and I'll be back to sample the breakfast menu soon.

For a very new place these guys are doing a great job. The food was excellent and service very good. We had pork belly, prawn linguine and the chicken, all resulting in happy faces. Followed this with cream cones and creme brulee - yum! It is situated in a nice neighbourhood, busy and vibey. Cool place, we will be back!
