Review Circus Circus Beach Cafe - Durban

CAREFULLY! Very tasty milkshake! Large portions, nice waiters. I didn’t have to wait for the waiter, the menu was brought quickly, the cocktail in 10 minutes, the dish in 15. The food was delicious, I was satisfied. the prices are low, I was even surprised. The order amount for the photo is R118.

The restaurant is right by the beachfront. The staff are pleasant and welcoming. The orders come right on time with almost zero waiting time. The food is fresh, tasty and just the right portions. Perfect location for the whole family and with friends. There is a playing area for kids. I will definitely return.

We weren’t sure what to expect in that area but the restaurant was quite neat. We gave it a try and the service was good. The food was also really good, the only issue was that it wasn’t hot enough. It arrived warm/cold - if it arrived a bit hotter it would have been a 5 star review from me. All of our food was cold so it wasn’t just mine.

A place to experience the morning beach view and breeze whilst having a breakfast. Delicious food with excellent service. Highly recommended for breakfast.

If you happen to be close to Durban Beachfront definitely check out this gem. Beautifully located by the seaside, absolutely delicious breakfast and we really had great service. I will definitely return.

Lovely breakfast and waiter gave us good service, it was very busy and had to wait in a queue for a table. The queue was dealt with in a very professional way. The only problem was when we had to pay. Depending on how that is handled soon by the management and waiter.

The atmosphere was impeccable, it's very clean, the customer service was amazing. The food was okay, not out of this world, but worth tryingI suppose, the coffee freezo was one of the best I've had in ages, I loved it. I'd go back just for that and their pasta, the quesadillas need a tad bit more of sauce or something similar. Overall my experience with this Circus Circus was grand.

Lovely set up, needs more breakfast options for those who do not eat beef or pork, maybe offer chicken as a substitute. But overall, it was a very pleasant experience.

What a pleasant surprise. The food was excellent and well prepared. It came in a timely manner and wasn't too pricey. However, the same can't be said for service. I only deducted one star as Circus Circus Beach Cafe can get quite busy so having to wait a little is to be expected. Otherwise a great place to catch a meal and drinks on the Durban beachfront. Excellent views and atmosphere is why you are there in the first place. Well Done to Circus Circus.

Great location on the promenade. Staff is very friendly and the whole Cafe has a welcoming vibe. Food and drinks options are amazing especially the plant based range. Will recommend the beet hummas and avo rae bread.

Such a great atmosphere and superb views of the Durban beach. Food was so good. Had some entertaining Michael Jackson performers. Overall just a fab place to eat.

Had a great experience, but they close too early which I wasn't aware of. Apart from the closing hour, every other thing is okay including the service rendered and the clean environment. For smokers, they do not allow smoking within except you walk out. The circus is close to the water, so you get a nice breeze and ocean view experience.

We went over the long weekend and when we got there, there was quite a long queue. We were assured that it would only take 10 minutes to be seated and it did. We were attended to quickly and service was very good considering how busy it was. We never felt rushed either. A nice touch was the two large pitchers of ice water and lemon that we were served with immediately. We ordered from the breakfast menu, which is substantial and everything was delicious. The portions are very big, but I thought my son's vanilla milkshake could've been the standard milkshake size - which it wasn't - it was small. Sitting on the sofa and large wooden chairs meant we could really soak up the vibe on the beachfront. As a breakfast experience I can definitely recommend Circus Circus on Durban beachfront. 😎

The long line didn't deter us. It was worth the 10 minute wait. Waitrons were considerate and mindful of the needs of the family, stroller, kids etc. The food was excellent! Well prepared, fresh, generous portion sizes. And the kids food arrived minutes after ordering, allowing my daughter maximum time in the play area. Definitely worth visiting again and again!

Lovely place to have breakfast! Despite the load shedding this morning we still had a great experience, the pulled pork benedict is a definite must have! And Favorite was a lovely waitress, providing great service!

We stopped for breakfast I ordered the vegetarian breakfast which was very good, however I found the brinjals very oily. Perhaps grilling them would have been a better option

I start most mornings with a visit to Circus Circus. The atmosphere is serene and the food is delicious. The staff are attentive and friendly especially Sindi, Phindile, S'bo, Staff, Michael & Tammy. They're always welcoming you with a smile. The owner Kay makes it a point to personally greet all the patrons. There is really a fantastic vibe here.

Upon arrival I asked where I could sit down and have access to a plug point as I needed to charge my laptop whilst I worked. I was told there was only one table in the entire cafe that had a plug point, and that this table was unfortunately occupied. For such a well known establishment it is a let-down to know that only one person at a time can have access to electricity. A suggestion for better business: buy some extension chords or fit some plugs near the tables.

Well it was okay as i honestly didd not enjoy my meal. I ordered a steak burger and it was really not up to par. It was like eating broiled chopped steak chunks with caramelized onions and lots of recket lettuce. The only thing that i could eat was chips. The food was not nice at all but it was my wrong choice i guess. Next te will try and order something else. Thanks

Wasn't very impressed with the meal, wasn't prepared to my specification, service was very slow, and it was not the first time that I was asked to be seated outside, not pleasant at all. Also, asked for Espresso with a tad of milk, was charged for cappuccino , and charged extra for low GI bread, which the waitress did not even advise. Did mention this to Bill, who'd still asked how much was the tip.

I ordered hake fish with chips and I didn't enjoy it at all the fish was not tasty they really need to improve services there cause we pay our own money.

In the spirit of birthday celebrations, I had a pleasant (and long) breakfast with the fam at CCC.<br/><br/>Food & Drinks: I enjoyed my egg benedict and my brother was pleased with his omelette. They serve a delish and cooling mint lemonade crushed smoothie (we added shots to them). The crumpets were okay; enjoyed the fruit and yoghurt topping far more.<br/><br/>Ambience: The place is clean, fresh and airy with sea views.<br/><br/>Service: Many thanks to our waiter Owen. He was kind enough to offer my mom and aunt blankies as it was quite windy. Very friendly and hospitable.

I have to say I enjoy going here, I have gone for a walk with a friend on the beachfront a few times and we stop in for the one egg act and a good morning coffee! Great atmosphere and the beach right in front of us. Lovely. On a whole the service is good as well. I have been there for a friends birthday as well and the staff were really great with a large table. Even on a rainy day it is enclosed and you can still appreciate the beach.

Very busy restaurant, beautiful indoor and outdoor view of the ocean, perfect for a walk on the promunade and then relax for a breakfast or lunch. Food is well prepared and fresh.

Wow wow! This place is really amazing. Very relaxed and you can see the sea from here and enjoy the ambience of people too. Had eggs benedict here and it was good! They also make a awesome cup of coffee and the crunches are to die for!! Everyone around me was asking for extra crunchies

As a massive fan of the Eggs Benedict, I was a bit disappointed in Circus Circus. The hollandaise sauce let the dish down, but the location and view made up for it. The service is a bit slow, but makes for the ideal lazy Sunday brunch location.

In terms of ambiance, I think this Circus Circus tops them all. My go to dish here is the New Yorker. It’s Lebanese flat bread topped with cream cheese, smoked salmon, avocado, capers and a few greens. It’s soooooo good and fresh. Perfect with a cocktail or freshly squeezed fruit juice. I’ve also enjoyed their chicken wrap.

This restaurant had beautiful views and awesome food and cocktails. I had the spaghetti Bolonaise which I quite enjoyed. The staff are friendly and the service is good. You don't wait too long for your food either.

The ambience cost millions,to die for the management awesome the view 😍 ,the food was great best service from my waiter ,will be back on a sunny day an I enjoyed my breakfast,the guy with authentic music sitting by the walk way provides good 😊 music 🎶

Good food, nice atmosphere but the service which used to be amazing was lacking on a busy Sunday. <br/>This used to be my favourite place to visit but I wasn’t happy with the service or lack thereof during my last visit. <br/>

Wonderful location close to north beach and good parking, we were seated quickly despite the line and the waiters did their best to keep up with all the orders. I had the calamari which was pleasant but not wow with chips which I think they should be famous for. The burger and pesto chicken and bacon pasta were nice. There is a nice kids area and a good vibe!

Recently went here , Wow , such a nice Vibe ,soo relaxed and peaceful, with the view of the beach right there and the sea breeze , and the food (I had the mother of all burgers ) was amazing and soo filling 😂 I literally had half of it , ive got no complains AT ALL , and the service was great .. try it out , you won't regret it

Great beach cafe. Buzzing and full of activity with nice ambiance. Tasty, fresh food. Excellent veg options but not for breakfast. Most breakfast veg options have egg. Freshly squeezed juice and good strong coffee. Not sure about vegan options. Cafe was oasis after long walk on busy beach promenade.

I had a really good breakfast at Circus Circus yesterday. We hadn't been there for ages, but I can see why people queue for a table.<br/><br/>The beachfront location is spectacular, with incredible views of the beach and the passers-by, and our food was very good.<br/><br/>We both chose yellow juice (fresh pineapple, orange, apple, mint, and ginger) and it was absolutely delicious. There’s a big selection of appealing breakfasts. I chose the Vegetarian Breakfast (eggs, grilled halloumi cheese, brinjal, mushrooms, and tomato with pesto – and 2 slices of toast. This was a generous portion and we’d have been fine sharing the one dish.<br/><br/>The second choice was the French toast – 2 slices of French toast served with bacon and prosciutto, cherry tomatoes, toasted flaked almonds and caramelised bananas. Again, a generous portion. I would have preferred the bananas to be more thoroughly caramelised, but we added syrup which compensated.<br/><br/>The service at Circus Circus deserves a particular compliment. It seemed that everyone who works there was alert and full of cheerful help. A dropped fork? Not sure who replaced it but it was there in a thrice. A sudden chill breeze? Would you like a blanket? Call for the bill? Delivered quickly. <br/><br/>All in all, a great breakfast.

It's a very chilled environment with great food and friendly staff. And the 'wild berry and and apple' smoothie was AMAZING! I'll definetly be going back.

This place is situated in a prime location in Durban promenade!!! They are packed and have a awesome vibe. The food is real and nothing pretensios and its big portions. They have a lot of seating space but do not have enuf staff to run such a big restaurant as all the drinks came out at different time this was the only thing that spoiled the whole experience!!! Otherwise I will def will go back again as the food was really good!! <br/>

After a fun beach day we chose Circus Circus cafe to end the day. We decided to order the vegetarian mezze which had a spanakopita, grilled halloumi, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, Kalamata olives, grilled flat bread and dips. There was a surprise artichoke as well included. We also had the lemon pepper calamari. The selection on the mezze platter was bursting with flavour, and combining the various elements into the flat bread created a roller coaster ride for the tongue. The downside to my meal was the nachos we ordered afterwards, the cheese had dried on the chips and was soggy in the middle. The restaurant has a nice relaxing atmosphere, great views being on the promenade. Enjoyed the friendly staff and ended having a good meal with my family.

The ocean view from the restaurant is brilliant. Waiters are friendly and helpful. I just had some coffee and a light snack. The coffee was good and the sandwich average. The breakfast looks good, so will be back to try that<br/>

Saturday mornings on the Durban beachfront are always fun. Circus circus beach cafe will always be a family favorite it gets really packed though so waiting to be seated is the norm my family and I got seated at a really tiny table and there was four of us which made eating abit uncomfortable. Nonetheless I ordered the farmhouse breakfast which had bacon sausage eggs the works honestly it doubled up as lunch it was HUGE. Prices are slightly higher than your average breakfast but the portions are worth it. And because I could help myself I ordered the carrot cake to take home which didn't taste so good. <br/>Will I be back? Yes always!💜

This experience is the best breakfast buffet experience in sa. And a Durban only experience. Beach, bacon, sun... need I say more. Will be back again soon :-)

The best way to spend a sunny day in Durban is by the beach, my friends & I did just that !<br/><br/>This Café has fast become one of my favourite spots in the city. The food is above par, the service is magnificent, the cakes are both tasty & good to look at, the location is just great with a cool breeze & a calming view (depending on the day)<br/><br/>My one issue is that they don't have one of my favourite cognacs, Hennessy !

Location is great with awesome sea views. Food was decent and milkshake really yum. Restaurant is not clean - tables and chairs were dirty, toilet was shockingly dirty - perhaps due to being busy but then a dedicated cleaner should be hired. Water jugs and glasses were not washed - look like they had been rinsed only as you could still see fingerprints on it. Found two hairs in the lid of the tomato sauce. Won't be back ever.

Absolutely love this place. Perfect setting for a brunch on a bright sunny day. They serve some of the best pulled pork that i have ever had. A definite must for anyone in Durban.

Had a really love time here... Great beach views... Had nachos for starters which I found very much average n below standard but had great mains, the ribs were great. The Lemon Mint is the best smoothie I've ever had!!!

It is located Right on the promenade..across from the beach. Great craft beers and cocktails with a small but varied menu - which interestingly would cater for everyone in a group.<br/><br/>Safe outdoor Kids play area inside. Food service is very slow but the food and view is worth the wait. Prawns to die for and flat breads are gourmet decadence. Try the Italian job with parma ham and rocket or the New Yorker with salmon, avo and cream cheese. Veg options are also really good :) Definitely will be back.

Portion sizes are great, quality of food is of great standard, great service and price is really reasonable. It's really a buzzing spot, so get there early or be prepared to wait for a table. It's really the perfect location along the promenade.

Cold, not freshly made, and tasted like it was made in a pan where other items had previously been fried in. Cold toast. Coming back to Durban and finding out that one of my favourite spots had opened up on the beachfront was a pleasant surprise.<br/><br/>We started off with champagne and orange juice (note to self..pour the orange juice first..less mess!)<br/>Breakfast choices ranged from nutella croissants to eggs with mushrooms and French toast. All looked good and tasted fantastic.<br/>The kids went and dragged their toes through the sand while waiting for their food, something that is rather difficult to do in jhb!<br/><br/>All in all a pleasant experience.<br/><br/>Side note from the kids to management..please could you make the croissant that comes with Nutella a chocolate one? Then add a teaspoon in the chocolate and maybe sprinkle some chocolate powder on the plate to make the general appearance more appetizing.<br/><br/>

Beautiful beach front restaurant. It's a pity that the food did not mach the location. Went for a breakfast and ordered from the speciality menu. The food which arrived was tasteless and the bread was stale. The drinks took long to arrive and when it did arrive it appeared as though it was standing for quite a while. After our meal was finished we were pressured to leave. A few hours after the meal we felt sick and couldn't even bear the though of the food we ate.

The location of circus circus is awesome...right on the Durban beachfront. That's the best part. We ordered drinks then ordered breakfast. The food came before the drinks which was strange. My niece's toast and milkshake was the very last thing to arrive...the glass for the milkshake was cracked...all a little annoying. Anyway, the food wasn't bad...had the eggs Benedict with salmon...was good. Even the coffee was good.

The service was horrible. The manager was prejudice and purposefully refused to serve us breakfast during breakfast time. I'm totally disgusted. I'm truly disappointed. The location is the only thing good about this place.

This is my absolute favorite spot in Durban. I love how close it is to the beach. The kids have something to entertain themselves with, namely the sandpit and jungle gym. The staff is always friendly and willing to assist with smiles. I really enjoy the red juice as it is healthy and tasty. For dessert the rainbow cake is always a hit with the kids. I also think that it is awesome that there is a sweets bar, for myself, not the kids. Before leaving the beach it is advisable to go around the corner to the bike hire to burn off that extra slice of cake.

With a beautiful view to eat lunch from! Amazing right on the beach and truly unique in the way it's set up and also the food on the menu! You can also create some of your own combinations like I did! I really did enjoy my eating there with great service.

If you're looking for a place to have a romantic dinner or a large, hearty meal, this branch of Circus Circus is NOT the place. Seeing as it is a beach cafe, only light meals are served. I was quite disappointed to see only Rump on the grill section of the menu. They also do not serve roast veg as an option for your sides.

Visted this place while on holiday with my<br/>Family. It's was a lot of fun for the kids who played on the beach till their hearts were content. The food was fair - I had the prawns they didn't blow my socks off but the Burger that my husband had was really good. Service was also ok.

It was my first visit @ Circus Circus, I really liked the idea that we could eat and my son could play in the sand and we would get a view. Not being that hungry cocktails and nacho's and their Mediterranean flat bread was ordered to share. The food is good but service is slow and what really is annoying is that they do not take reservations.

This was a recommendation so my mum suggested we try it - great spot on the beachfront but my first impression was that it was a little shabby ! We had excellent service - friendly & efficient. My mum ordered the chicken schnitzel and the portion, I thought, was huge with a mushroom sauce & which she rated as good, my sister the chicken livers - also good but could have been a bit spicier (that is worth noting as my sister is a ninny when it comes to spicy food ;) so you may want to ask for chilli on the side) and I had the bacon flatbread which I demolished - it was very good. The weather was good and it wasn't crowded but can get noisy with several street artists stopping along the way to entertain - some patrons did get irritated when they came into the restaurant asking for tips but not sure management can control that and they certainly didn't bother anyone. The beachfront in Durban is decidedly lacking in good restaurants considering it's great location and this one is worth a visit if you looking for casual ..

Great venue on the beachfront. Every item I tried has been always good. Waiters are generally nice, but it is quite a busy place at lunch time, when it gets super crowded and service might be slow. If you don't mind the people and the noise, then definitely go for it. Otherwise wait a little and go after lunch hours to have a great experience. The milkshakes here are really good.

Love this Restuarant , great food , good service , passion fruit smoothie perfect after a morning jog and breakfast fresh and huge portions

Great vibe especially for a sunday breakfast after a good run or jog along the beach or just for a chilled breakfast catch up session with the girls! Service is poor though, there needs to be more waiters avail esp when the restaurant is at capacity!

Circus Circus Beach Cafe on Snell Parade was recommended to me on a long weekend visit to Durban with friends at the end of last year.. What could be better than getting off a flight and eating a brunch practically on the beach? Sea, sand, sunshine..  Everyone I know in Durbs seems to recommend this little place to visitors, as its been around since 1994 and due to the great location that this branch has, I can definitely see why! But to be honest, on this occasion the service wasn't great, and the food was okay. It was quite late in the morning and I felt like something other than the breakfasts on offer, but sadly, they weren't able to accommodate us. Still, the breakfast that I then chose, wasn't bad.

This is one of me regular spots in Durban. The breakfast is really good and there is a wide variety of cakes available for a little post meal indulgence.

We were walking down to the sea edge & the sand when it started to drizzle so we thought we'd have in betweeners while waiting for the rain to stop. <br/>We were greeted pleasantly & we got a table on the esplanade under an umbrella. A nice setting. <br/>The service however sucked. The waitress "Pride" just simply forgot we existed. Left our dirty plates & glasses on our table. We had to call for the bill & still our plates remained on our table. What a way to spoil our experience & meal. <br/>The place was crazy noisy, the tables piled back to back so that people ended bumping into each other <br/>The food was average to nice. My rice was so dry I could barely swallow it. My prawns were ok. Very Small but juicy. <br/>My wife's muscles were good but her calamari was tough & chewy. <br/>Overall a very average meal at a very above average price & with terrible service. <br/>Our worst holiday meal in Durban!

Good breakfast had by all 11 of us. Coffee was hot . Bacon just a bit overdone but they were hectic ally busy. Service was great no complaints. Great way to end off the morning after a Crossfit session. Will definately do it again.

Love this place to bits. I find it much better to go there in the mornings for breakfast as this place tends to get really busy, even at 10am on a regular monday morning! Situated at the beach with a seating area on the sand, really gives you that chilled Durban vibe and food is great. The Californian breakfast is a favorite of mine accompanied by a freshly squeezed fruit juice. Definitely a place to go to if you're in town.

So we found this little gem one weekend when we hired some bicycles on the beach front and rode past. There was a great vibe so we decided to stay for a brunch. <br/>The setting is brilliant. Right on the beach. The service was good considering how busy they were and very friendly. <br/>The menu had quite a large spread. I felt like something sweet so I had the crumpet stack with bacon and syrup. The portion was massive and very good. The other meal at the table which I thought was brilliant was the spinach and feta frittata (a Spanish quiche/omelette).<br/>The food was great and I thought reasonably priced.

Circus Circus at the beachfront is unique in that the seating spills onto the sand, which is a really beautiful way to enjoy lunch on a lovely day in Durban. The service is always friendly and quick, you may have to sometimes wait in a queue to be seated, especially on weekends but this just shows how popular the spot has become.<br/><br/>I have tried the smoothies which are summery and sweet, the cakes are rather delicious with some unusual but delightful flavours. I have also had the nachos which are okay, made with Doritos which is disappointing and the salsa is all buried at the bottom. Pastas and salads are all lovely and come in generous portions. On cooler days the bar one, chai and nutella "hotties" are yum. This is a place I frequent and is by far my favourite place for a quick nibble or coffee break on the north beach strip.
