What a stunning, laid-back feeling for a Sunday afternoon " get out of the city" experience. The food was like a "homemade" meal. The deco was comforting, inviting, and interesting. The service was on-the-money for a restaurant that was fully booked. There was live entertainment, and just when you thought it couldn't get better... there was a stunning fireplace to dissolve the chill in the air, plus a really nice bar... with that "yesterday" feeling. Next time you are wondering what to do on a Sunday ( or the weekend)...pack up the fam, invite some friends, and head for Darling. I would, however, book The Old Forge Bar & Restaurant ahead of the visit to ensure you have a seat. Enjoy!!!

The vintage style décor with a burning fireplace is absolutely cozy and warm for the cold days. Great live music and exceptional service. Patrick and Cathy attended our table and they were friendly and professional. The food was excellent and well portioned. Tables available inside and outside and the restaurant is child friendly.

We just stopped for coffee on a Sunday morning. They'd just opened at 10am. Lovely friendly host opened up the playground for us and wiped down the tables. Not a huge selection of hot drinks but we could get cappucinos and orange juice for the kids. So many different rooms and spaces to sit in - indoor by the fire, in the front calm garden, in the back kid friendly garden, upstairs above the restaurant. Such a lovely atmosphere. Sad we were too early to experience the live music

Great nostalgic atmosphere. Sunday roast was great. I just needed extra gravy, which they supplied in abundance. Local musician supplied music nonstop with good old classics. Well worth a visit.

What a great find! We went to see a musician there ( acoustic guitar/vocalist) and stayed for a lovely lunch and a world class chardonnay :) rustic, clean, attentive, well dressed waiters Worth a visit!

Took a drive out from Cape Town on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and ended up at the Old Forge. The coffee was strong, just the way I like it, and cake options were on point, we had the baked cheese cake and chocolate brownie with ice cream. The portions were generous and the cakes tasty. We'll be back again

Enjoyed a fabulous lunch here for father's day. The food was delicious. Even though we didn't eat from the main menu as there was a special, I would love to try more dishes. Friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere that matches the name and quaintness of the town. We also enjoyed the live entertainment, which we discovered is a frequent addition to the restaurant over the weekend!

What a charming quaint restaurant in Darling. There is more to Darling than the Evita Paron. Located off the main road. I have been here a few times now and they have never disappoint. Lovely atmosphere both inside and out. We had live music with a full on sunday roast to die for. Wines a bit pricey but otherwise lots of charm and character from the warthog above the fireplace to saddles hanging off the rafters.

Alex (the manager) welcomed us warmly to this utterly charming and vintage-quirky restaurant in the little town of Darling. The menu is concise because the chef offers her best, starting with delicious dipping bread (the olive oil is local Darling vintage). We ate the most delicious food, from shared spicy prawns and arronicini balls, to steaks, beautiful sole and herbed risotto and a traditional pie. Naturally, we were so busy enjoying the food, the ambience and one another's company, I forgot to take food pics. Definitely go out of your way to visit The Old Forge.

The saying goes: “It’s not inside, it’s on top.” With The Old Forge it’s not outside it’s inside. It’s got just the right feel, relaxing, good background music, good service, a great menu - well priced, and Darling beer on tap or choose from a selection of their wines - this is not a ‘have a quick bite and move on’ place. Sit back, relax and enjoy. Alternatively, outside lends itself to having a starter with a good beer or their house wines. I would have like to see more local wines available by the glass. We kept our meal light so really enjoyed the Panfried Chicken Livers. Without a second thought I’d be back.

It was a blissful experience popping in for a quick business lunch today 🍛🦐😋 Welcomed by beautiful vibes with soft music indoors & quiet sounds of nature with a mix of chirping birds 🐦 The old oak forge restaurant & bar is a absolute complimentary to Spring that seems to have finally sprung 🌱🌻

Four motorcyclists had roast Sunday lunch, and it was great, even included yorkshire pudding. The actual place is decorated like a cross between a Scottish hunting lodge and an English country pub.

We were a big group who basically booked our the entire venue and they still took in additional people. It felt slightly cramped, but the service, atmosphere and amazing food made up for it. Amazing talented artist displaying and selling his wire crafts. Definitely worth supporting!!
