Review Melissa’s Constantia - Constantia

I've been going to Melissa's since I was a kid as it's close to where I grew up. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is a cozy, relaxed one and their food is amazing. They make delicious hot chocolate and croissants!

Lovely spot for breakfast or to get some work done. The Smoothies and take away food are yummy!

Excellent breakfast and lunch place for the healthier eaters. Also good for a cup of coffee. The food shop has an excellent selection of higher end organic options as well as some more sinful high quality ice creams. Plenty of parking.

Lovely breakfasts and lunch buffet if you don't feel like ordering from the menu. Good selection of deli type products on offer. I recommend sitting outside on the covered porch as it can get noisy inside.

I like it because it's not in the actual shopping centre, giving it a slightly independent feel. And the coffee is good. Food also good, but a little pricey when you make your own plate, see picture.

I have lunch here often with either my daughter or my friend. I love that it sells imported things from the UK that I can't find anywhere else. in winter the home made minestrone soup is a meal in itself

This is my review concerning the drinks and meal we had at Melissa's: Caffe latte: ⁃ The espresso to cream ratio is done very well, creating a silky smooth, yet rich and creamy texture and taste all the way from top to bottom. Americano: ⁃ Very bold in taste, strong and intense in flavor, yet smooth and delicious when taken with honey. I have had a better Americano in Croatia but in SA i would say this one is the best i've had. Compliments to the Barista. He really knows how to make good coffee. Ratings: ⁃ Caffe Latte: 7/10 ⁃ Americano: 7/10 Butter Bean Salad: ⁃ The butter bean salad was very nice. The ingredient combination for it works and i like that the sweetchilli sauce has a nice bite to it which adds that extra boost to the salad. Butter Bean Salad Rating: 7/10 Artisan Sandwich: Slow cooked beef, Melissa's Sweetchilli sauce, fresh Coriander and toasted sesame seeds: ⁃ The presentation of the dish could've been better. The sweetchilli sauce acts like a jam on the bread. The slow cooked beef was still a bit chewy, dry and tough to bite through. Tried to separate a piece using a fork and knife, but were unsuccessful. The beef was not slow cooked for long enough or either slow cooked inside an oven with the fan on which causes any slow cooked beef to dry out and become tough. ⁃ You don't really get the experience or flavor of the beef, because its completely overpowered by the sweetchilli sauce. Since it's a beef sandwich, you expect the star of the dish to be beef, instead it was the sweetchilli sauce. Also, there were too little pieces of beef on the sandwich - the star of the dish should be beef. There were too much sweetchilli sauce on the bread which made it very soggy. The sandwich has potential, they just need to work on perfecting the quantities of the ingredients in the dish. Beef Sandwich Rating: 5/10 The manager was amazing, she did exactly what every great manager does that takes responsibility for what leaves the kitchen. Manager Rating: 9/10 Our waiter, Noma was and is always such a pleasant person to talk to. She really knows how to connect with her guests. Well done. Waiter Rating: 9/10 Will definitely visit here again.

My far the worst service ive evwr experienced. I went there for my first time and it was horrible and and then i thought I'd go back again to give it another try and it was the exact same service

Sadly, this Melissa's served great good... I should say partly served because it was more a lack of service that we experienced. But it ended right there. We were ignored after finding a table and we had to constantly try get the waiter's attention to order our drinks and our food. It seemed like everyone was on a go-slow and some people may be ok with that but it really doesn't make for an enjoyable restaurant experience in my opinion. The salmon and cottage cheese open sandwich is actually really good. But not good enough to go back any time soon. Which is sad because Melissa's has a great atmosphere and it is a great concept (with a little shop selling branded products that is part of the café). But the lack of service really overshadows this.

Popped in for a quick lunch at this lovely spot. Sit inside surrounding by beautifully made bakes, sweets, quiches, salads, risks, biscuits, cordials and every treat imaginable! Our site outside on the veranda and watch the world go by.

I had an iced coffee that was string but a tad too sweet. I ordered my favourite Caesar salad. It was very salty, overcooked bacon, rock hard croutons that I couldn't cut or bite through. It went back to the kitchen with sincere apologies from the very kind and professional manager.

I really believe Melissa has a winning concept with the highest quality ingredients and delectable dishes. Unfortunately is difficult to ensure that quality is carried through at every branch. Service has room for improvement here too.

Regardless, I belive this was an isolated incident and I will come back and continue to frequent her fabulous stores.

Had coffee with a friend at this Melissa's this morning. The location is really lovely, situated away from the main block of Constantia village. His means that you're quite secluded and don't have to seal with all the hustle and bustle.

I had a latte and also their rooibos and Apple iced tea. A good latte, and the iced tea was ok, but I would not order it again. My friend had an Apple, cucumber and mint juice with which she was pleased. I had already eaten, but my friend got their potato and baby marrow rosti with poached eggs and salmon. The eggs were poached beautifully and they were accommodating with regard to small modifications.

So why the mediocre score? The service was pretty terrible. After ordering drinks we were asked if we were ordering breakfast and we said yes. But no one came to take our order for at least 20 minutes. After unsuccessfully trying to Catch our waitress' attention, I had to go up to her and ask her to come take our order.
After getting the bill, we were also left waiting an unusual amount of time before we were seen to again.

Would I return? Maybe, I am keen to try their food. But based on the service recieved, I'd only come back for a meal if I had a lot of time on my hands.

Stopped here for coffee after a long workday travelling the Cape peninsula. It's a deli café coffee shop type of place. Service was good. Coffee is spot on. The carrot cake stood out as one of the best I've eaten - highly recommended. Tried the cheesecake aswell which was delicious. Great spot to get your coffee fix and for those with a sweet tooth.

Pathetic! Wanted to enjoy a late breakfast in the morning sun. Upon arrival I seated myself outside(there were only 2 other tables who already had been served). Inside it was half full. I waited for 10 minutes still no one available so I fetched the menu myself from another table. 10 minutes later a waitress came outside and brought someone breakfast seated right opposite me. I called her twice but she ignored me. Waited for another 5 minutes and left! Went to Tashas across the road. They're cheaper and service was almost immediate. And quite full.

Not doing justice to the mellisa's brand! Poor service, sloppy deli and so expensive for average meals. Time to innovate renovate and rebuild!!
Very slow service on all my visits.
Don't go there if your in a hurry.
Ordered items have been forgotten on few occasions. Items I feel are over priced. However the lunch buffet is rather enjoyable.

Never go here. We waited for a very long time for our lunch, even though the shop was quite empty, when it arrived my husband's burger was cold, and my ceaser salad came with no dressing. My husband's coffee also had a piece of filter paper in it. We couldn't find the waiter to bring us the bill or clear the plates from our table, turns out he went on a lunch break. I wanted to speak with the manager about the poor service, but couldn't, as he left to go smoke outside somewhere. This restaurant is full of staff who do not care at all about their customers. Food is also very average. What a waste of time and money.

Don't go here if you're planning a quick cup of coffee or breakfast as the service is sluggish. Food is typical and consistent at this restaurant. However certain items on the menu can be unexciting, so choose carefully. Buffets are great and cost effective.

This Melissa's didnt quite live up to the quality we've come to expect. Popped in for lunch and i had the pie which was pretty bland. I threw a mountain of salt on it to make it taste marginally better. Service was really slow and unattentive. Also seemed like prices are higher everytime we go there?

I'm glad I didn't read the reviews of this Melissa's before coming here or I may not have come at all which would have been such a pity!
We had a lovely afternoon tea here with the friendliest service I've had in ages. The lady serving us was so kind and concerned about my food allergies and made an effort to find out exactly what I could and couldn't eat off the menu.
I ended up sharing a slice of the carrot cake with a friend and it was absolutely the best carrot cake I've had in a long time. My soy milk hot chocolate was perfect in this cold weather and the Nutella mochachino is a real treat.
Not sure if issues arise when you order actual meals off the menu, but I'd recommend coming for tea and cake here any day.

Underwhelming.. They do not allow substitutions and I've had them remove mouldy dried fruit off their shelves. Very little attention to quality. Give it a skip and go to Tasha's across the way instead.

Very nice spot for breakfast or lunch with your family, friends or romantic partner or business partner. It can be a bid loud on the weekends so perhaps not a business meeting then. The food can take a while on the weekends, but it is always well made and worth the wait. The staff are friendly and attentive towards the customers and urge you to return every time. I recommend the banana, bacon and Brie croissant (lovely contrast of sweet and savory!), their blueberry hot cakes, and their Nutella hot chocolate! Very nice experience this Sunday morning!

Used to be a favourite of mine but has gone slightly downhill. I don't find the quality of this establishment as high as it used to be. It's almost as though the shop has become a bit too cluttered. Food takes a while and the buffet isn't up to the standard it once was

Great coffee, friendly and quick service. Great black velvet cake. Seating outside is lovely on a bright summers day in Constantia Village.

I was hesitant to go to Melissa's given the lukewarm reviews. I went in to find cute decor and lots of yummy foods on display. I'm not sure if they always allow breakfast at lunch but I had the omelette with mushrooms and a soya cappucino. The omelette was huge and I couldn't finish it - I'm not sure how many eggs they put in!. The ingredients tasted fresh and light. Really enjoyed it. The soya cappucino was great. The waiter was nice and attentive. The food took a little long to come but it was hot and tasty when it did.

The service was prompt and the coffee is good but don't order their cupcakes! My carrot cupcake was stale and dry. Very disappointing, not sure I'll come back here again.

This branch can't by any extension of the imagination be compared to the standard the franchise upholds. The service is poor and the baked goods are inedible. Besides looking terrible, the Red Velvet cake had no flavour, no sugar, and was completely stale. The cupcakes were even worse. After a 30min drive to get here, this was an incredibly disappointing experience.

Melissa's is the ever consistent restaurant. Service is friendly and quick. Coffee's are well made and large. Breakfasts are fresh and filling. Parking is ample and the restaurant is family friendly.
