Review Peddlars - Constantia

Christopher Hendrickse
A fantastic hidden gem in the southern suburbs. A real nice venue especially on those summery days as they have a fantastic outdoor seating area nevertheless they have plenty indoor seating too. The staff are friendly and helpful and service was great. They have a wide menu with tasty drinks and food all round. There is plenty free on site parking and the venue is wheelchair friendly. Highly recommend

Delicious food, efficient and friendly service. We had pork belly, steak, linefish/calamari combo and cheesecake. All beautifully cooked

Really great place. Awesome well priced food. We had burgers and they were top class. Highly recommended. Cheesecake was also fantastic.

Super friendly staff who were all very accommodating. Went to watch the Bokke play and it was such a vibe. TVs up everywhere so nobody missed out on a second of the game.

I was looking for a restaurant for dinner to have a small intimate birthday dinner with my family. Googled so many places needed to have a versatile menu so that my family can enjoy the meal too. But I really had one request, to have a good baked cheesecake as dessert. I stumbled on Peddlars heard of them before but have never been. The reviews looked good. So I chose Peddlars and was not disappointed at all from the starters all the way to desserts. The food was delicious, portions were good and I got my cheesecake which melted in my mouth. Still having flashbacks. Service was good if our waitress was not around another would come and check on us. Thank you Peddlars for an amazing dinning experience. I will be back

Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly service. Beyond burger was the juiciest vegetarian/vegan burger I've ever eaten. Onion rings were light and crispy and seasoned just right. Cheese sauce was good. My friend swears by their pepper sauce but that's not my thing so you'll have to take his word for it. Baked cheese cake was really good. Smooth with well balanced flavour and went down very nicely with a cappuccino.

Lovely outdoor setting in the courtyard. No views when you are inside the restaurant hence the 4 star rating but still a very lovely venue. I had the ravioli which was very tasty. Hubby had the prego lunch special with potato chips. Friendly service. A good venue for groups of people for special occasions. Plenty of secure parking.

I've always liked coming to Peddlars. Food, service, and atmosphere - always excellent. Your Malva pudding is a real delight and the home-made custard is beyond 5 stars! 🤩 waiters are always friendly and helpful 💯 I love that they keep a ready welcoming smile on their faces... and may I say what a relief it is that you stay open later on a Sunday night!

This was one of our first stops in cape town, we enjoyed a burger and a cafe latte, the food was amazing the staff were super friendly. Inside there was a great bar designed in a creative manner to lure the customers😏.

Great way to end off a day. They have delicious cocktails, sugar free spritzers, coffees, tapas, salads, pastas and burgers. Very unique design to the restaurant. Makes you feel right at home. The bar is situated in such a nice angle right around the inside of the restaurant so you can enjoy the outside view nicely while watching some sport on the many well placed television screens. It will be a worth visit. That's an Izzy guarantee

We were lucky to watch three world cup rugby games at Peddlars in the last few weeks. Well organised booking system, great service even though the restaurant was absolutely packed every time, good food and fantastic vibe. Thank you to Sean for going above and beyond for us last night at the final.

Have been going for years. And it's always been an awesome spot. Food is great, and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed brunch /lunch. Not really a spot for kids... as there isn't anything to do. So if your kids can't sit still then I would avoid it. Our Server, Richmore, was brilliant. The shade under the oak trees is amazing.

Wow, the experience at Peddlars was incredible! The food is really delicious and flavourful and the service was top notch. The manager walked the floor and chatted to us which was a nice personal touch. The atmosphere was really terrific. On one side of the establishment is a bar area where people could watch the football. There is an outside seating area which is spacious and there was an event happening while we were having lunch. Inside, the decor is rustic and inviting. My highlight besides the cheesecake which was fantastic was the music Playlist. All the hit songs from the late 80s to the early 90s. I was tempted to get up and dance! Peddlars also has an indoors deli where they sell an assortment of breads, jams and even toasties. I am definitely going back for dinner in the summer. I think it will be a great vibe!

We had the most warm welcome and excellent service from both Clint and Shaun during our visits recently. They go beyond duty to make a patron feel welcome.

A delightful surprise after a Monday Group Walk. An airy restaurant where covid distancing is practiced with ease. A well stocked, interesting deli with an array of tempting food items. We ordered coffees and freshly baked croissants, served with home made berry jams. All and all, a really worthwhile visit.

My son who worked there few years ago booked for the family thinking the standard of food and service were still upmarket. .But the experience was a disaster. .very small menu with burgers and chips (no choice of salads/baked potatoes) ,soggy pork belly serviced with a spring roll , tough steaks, dry tasteless side veggies and the list is endless. PS..very pricey compared to other local restaurants and the place needs a serious make over. .period. Won't recommend it to anybody. .

Amazing!!! First timer but I will definitely return again and again. Was the perfect to have some alone time for lunch with my boyfriend. The food was amazing, both of us could not say enough how amazing our meals were. I will definitely recommend Peddlars!

We tried to get a table for lunch at 2 other restaurants prior to visiting Peddlars & Co. All totally full. We were releaved to find that Peddlars had space for us. All 5 of us had a superb meal at Peddlars & Co today. Every item was first class. We recommend eating at Peddlars & Co.

Food was horrendous. Kitchen shows no pride in what they send out. Pork belly was dry but the crackling was soft, calamari was soggy, steak was overcooked, presentation was pathetic with no garnish, table veg was dry and looked like it had been reused. So poor especially at the asking price. Would not go back.

Amazing food for sure! I've been there a few times but after my mom hosted her birthday party at your place I'm even more convinced that you're one of the best. Better still - accommodating us as a family to reshoot some birthday pics and not thinking twice about it! You made it even more memorable

I went to peddlars with my boyfriend tonight expecting the food to be as good as the renovations but it was honestly wasn't worth the price we paid. The burgers we ordered were tasteless and and waaayyy under cooked when we asked for medium. I had to actually force it down and eat it with long teeth because it was so terrible. It was definitely not worth 89 rand.

We had supper at Peddlars last night, was cosy inside with lighting, and bar looked great. I had the kingklip, was delicious! Great house wine! And overall service and food were great! We'll keep on going back

Awesome setting/lekker food and a waiter (Richard IV) with rocking personality. My partner was disgusted that I had never brought him to Peddlars before - guess it was always my secret
Madge Gibson
Excellent Beer battered Hake and potato skins. Sooo yummy fresh. Service so so, but definitely worth revisiting

Not been here in a while. Only came for drinks which are quite expensive here. My craft beer looked ominously cloudy and shouldn't have drank it, as I have the ill effects of it today:( Looking at the menu and prices, along with the reviews here, I won't be coming here to eat! Probably not to drink either...
Kiran Magan
Great food, great service, massive selection of drinks, not to mention --- daily cocktail specials!
Jonathan Ward
Good atmosphere, good food, wide selection of beers on tap . Our server was also very good and attentive. But the bathrooms - OH MY WORD - disgusting! Filthy, food lying over floor, looked like the public toilets after a rock concert. Completely spoilt it for me.

Always a good place to catch up with old friends, or grab a quick drink.

I've been to peddlars many times but usually to the pub, thought maybe I'd step up a class. It's very funny because the other parts of peddlers (it's split into a diner, bar and fine dining area) offer some of the same things but for around R100 less. <br/><br/>The service was great but that's because there was only one other table, our waitress was so bored that she was eyeing for us to finish our food so she could take our plates. She was very sweet and friendly though. <br/><br/>The food was very average and certainly not worth the price tag, the lamb was niceish but the cous cous or the cauliflower rice or whatever it was, tasted stale. But I was very impressed with my portion size, the same cannot be said however for the pork belly, I feel like they could've given more than 2 prawns, don't know if it's just me. <br/><br/>My brownie Sundae was also very average, the ice cream wasn't enjoyable and I just really found it below average. The apple tart however was very yummy but not quite with worth the price either. <br/><br/>One thing that peeved me was that they try and be fancy by having a limited menu, yet they should at least have everything in that very limited menu! No orange infused creme bulee! How could they! Haha jokes I'm not that much of a tit, really not the end of the world but still, should still have the full menu. <br/><br/>So yeah, the food wasn't bad, but the price tag and the averageness of the place just brings the whole evening to a below average rating. <br/><br/><br/>

We had dinner at Volare last night, we originally planned on using our entertainer vouchers but were pleasantly surprised by the 2 for 1 special that they were running anyway. Our table had ordered the sole, ribs, pork belly and sirloin. All of which had rave reviews. Service was superb and the chocolate fondant and red velvet dessert were delicious. We will definitely be going back!
I Love Foodies
Visited Volare a little while ago for a leisurely lunch. Their menu is quite expansive with an amazing selection of foodie items. I started off with some gnocchi, which were lovely though a little too intense in taste for me (too much strong cheese added and too salty for my liking), and followed this with slow-braised karoo lamb neck, which unfortunately had a lot of potential but fell a little short. That said, this is absolutely personal preference, as my friend had the lamb neck too and she loved it! I didn't have dessert, but tried some of my friend's tiramisu, which was lovely and delicate in flavour. Didn't have the best experience here food-wise, but they have such a good name and the setting is so lovely, that I'll go back and give them another go - perhaps for some real Italian pasta or something! Plus the service is 5 stars, which always means a lot!

I'm not sure whether it was our food choices that were uninspired, or the restaurant, but our experience was a little flat. The steak was good enough, and the service ticked all the boxes, but the ambience was lacking. It feels a bit like a 'pop up' afterthought of a restaurant.

There are 3 distinct restaurants in one location which comprises of Volare Ristorante, The Oak Terrace and The Local. This is a very unique concept but it seems to work somehow. We opted to try Volare because we had Entertainer vouchers. Volare is an authentic Italian restaurant with a casual yet upmarket touch. <br/><br/>Our tastebuds were dazzled from the entrée right through to dessert with all the tastes, components and aromas. It is not difficult to notice the fresh produce used for each dish. <br/><br/>We received impeccable service from the manager making sure our wine glasses were filled, friendly conversation - he really took care of us throughout the evening!

I'd heard various reports about this place and it quite surprised me. The service is fantastic. We had the manager check on us at least 3 time and happy enough to find out about one of the dishes. I walked away very full and very happy. Their wine list is good. I'll be happy to go part and try the other restaurants at Pedders &Co.

Before we decided where to eat,<br/>I checked the menu as well as the wine list.<br/>Reading the starters made up my mind!<br/>Marrow Bones!! Hey, any place that does Marrow Bones has my vote!<br/>(I'd even nominate the Chef for President)<br/>My bones were absolutely amazing- four<br/>nice sized bones, marrow was soft yet firm- just the way it should be served.<br/>Bones and fresh chili, a match made in heaven!<br/>Oh almost forgot, mains were very good as well: roast sirloin and catch of the day was Sea Bass- both mains very tasty. (bearing in mind that Im a rump guy.) So all in all my marrow bones.....I mean dinner ..was amazing! Then as usual, any dinner must have the perfect company to share the experience and that made for a perfect night out.<br/> <br/> <br/>

Dinner at Volare was a long time coming for me and my boyfriend, so expectations were high. They were met and exceeded. We enjoyed a drink and some crispy potato skins at The Local before going to our table. We arent big 'wine' people but there seemed to be a variety available. Our waitress was brilliant. She made us feel right at home and was quick and helpful. I didnt catch her name but I wish I had in order to thank her. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and was very satisfied. Portion was sizeable, chicken was moist and cooked perfectly. The potatoes were yum and the sauce was lovely. My boyfriend after much deliberation decided on the pork belly. Best decision ever. Chef Brad Ball has truly worked magic on that one. The pork was tender and moist with the fat rendered perfectly. The apple and celery provided gorgeous texture in every mouthful with little bursts of flavour. And that sauce! I cannot talk about it enough. 10/10 will be back!!

The bread came with an extraordinary balsamic vinegar - had an almost peppery taste to it - very yummy. As a starter I tried the Tuna Carpaccio that was a daily special. Very well prepared - thinly sliced with a good tasty selection of herbs and oil. Main of T-bone steak accompanied by a Caprese Salad was well presented and flavourful. The steak basted with garlic and salt, the salad with a very zesty pesto. All told - a good dining experience.

After being a long time local at Peddlers I tried Volare for a lazy Sunday lunch. The food was amazing. The pork belly was amazing with the veal a close second.<br/><br/>I will say, that despite her best efforts to be polite, the waitress was exceptionally annoying. I'd also recommend that you slip the manager a mild sedative as he is rather highly strung.

We tried the revamped restaurant last Thursday evening. It has a new modern feel to it, but does feel a little clinical. We both had the mussels starter, which was wonderful especially with the chilli bite added to it. I had the cob for mains, beautifully grilled and tender. My partner had the lamb shank, meat very tender but far too much red wine sauce - it would be better served as a reduction or a jus. The service from Lara was outstanding, she was knowledgeable and went out of her way to make sure we were okay. We'll definitely be back!

I had a wonderful evening at Volare. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were extremely friendly. My meal was delicious and all the other guests enjoyed their meals tremendously. You will definitely leave the restaurant feeling full and happy after all the rich and hearty food. I ordered the Pappardelle al coniglio, which was a rich and scrumptious pasta with a rabbit and pancetta sauce. The puddings were to die for and the winning dessert was the tiramisu which was beautiful presented and a very generous portion! I would recommend the restaurant for anyone looking for an enjoyable evening
Fried Onion
Had a table for 4 on a Sunday night, so quite empty. Most of the food was good to excellent, including the Seabass and semifreddo. Less successful was the stuffed quail - too much stuffing. The standout was the service from Jethro, which was superb by any measure. I would certainly return.

We had the most fantastic evening at Volare!! Serious highlights include the ricotta gnocchi with braised beef tongue, the three cheese salad ( which is not a salad but DEEP FRIED CHEESE!) and their Roast Porchetta which is a pretty sensational pork belly. Go with stretchy pants because you're going to want to order everything!<br/><br/>The decor is light and fresh, the staff are professional, friend and know their menu well and the vibe is all class and no pretension. I'm so happy that Brad Bell has found a fabulous new home at Pedlars & Co!<br/><br/>The full break down is up on the blog - and trust me you're going to want to read this one!!

The service was fine but the food was very disappointing (and expensive versus what we received). The presentation of the food was good but that was about it: poor balance between main component and the supporting elements on the plate, undercooked vegetables, poor seasoning, etc. We felt completely ripped off..
Candice Bresler
Just fantastic. We'd follow Chef Brad anywhere, but so glad he ended up here. Beautiful Italian, generous and homely but still so special. The tuna carpaccio, porchetta and affogato were particularly good. Can't wait to return.<br/>

A bit disspapointing.

July 2014: When this was Peddlars the food was great, local hearty but the service was not great! Now the service is good but food not great. Never been keen on pseodo-Italian in SA! I go back because it's very close to home on a cold night. Last night I had Ossobuco which had a very dominant lemon flavor and the risotto was very stodgy, my wife had calamari tubes which looked bland but tasted ok.<br/>9 January 2016<br/>So we went back to Volare last night with friends from Johurg and an Italian! The reception was great and service from Che good. The menus have gone and they have large blackboards on the wall with the menu written in chalk. This is so they can change the items regularly(weekly they say?). I had the marrow bones to start and they were excellent, lots of marrow basil. 2 friends had a starter portion gnocchi with marrow bones as their mains and they were very disappointed with the gnocchi. Renata the Italian especially as the were not freshly made as they should be at any good Italian kitchen. Michele had the chicken parmigiana which was also not great mainly because it was smothered in mozzarella with very little if any parmigiana! Maybe change the name of the dish? I had the sirloin and Charles had the lamb chops and these dishes were both excellent. The sauces were rich and tasty and the meat well cooked. The 2 pasta dishes were apparently also quite bland especially the fettuccine pesto but Glenda enjoyed this Carbonara. The tiramisu is made in a wineglass and although pleasant was not as great as it was before. Overall a great evening mainly because of the lovely company.
