Review Chardonnay Deli - Constantia

Annie
First time at Chardonnay Deli. Breakfast, although a bit pricey for a breakfast meal, was really lovely! I had the Avo Smash which is a delightful twist on Eggs Benedict. The eggs were perfectly poached. My husband had the "Piggy Breakfast" which he also said was good. Lovely setting.

Absolutely stunning experience celebrating my grannies birthday. Staff are super friendly and so accommodating to those that are quite old. Sat outside in the beautiful winter sunshine. The staff added a personal touch by writing happy birthday onto my grannies cheesecake plate. She absolutely loved it. Best cheesecake in the world as well, with a huge variety to select from. Restrooms were nice and clean. Shop has a huge variety of locally sourced products too.

Dangerous. Proceed with caution. Bakery is unbelievable! Almond milk flat white is right up there. We had green juice and a Nutella hot chocolate which was admittedly average. The scone is the real show stopper. Preferred the cheese to the cream but both were too delicious for words. Must do 👌🏼

If you're not yet a carrot cake fan, you definitely will be once you've tried a slice from Chardonnay Deli! A generous portioned serving that's more than enough to share, this well-priced treat is topped with cream cheese frosting that's made just right. A second visit in a matter of months? I can vouch that it's certainly worth a try again and again. 🥕🥧😉

Slice of heaven with baked goods and nature to top off the cherry 🍒on top of the beautiful restaurant. From the outside it looks small and just like a bakery but once inside it's spreads outwards. A wooden vibe with a lovely patio feel, walk down to a spacious nature sitting area and enjoy it with drinks, food good company. Staff is very well managed with friendly greetings once you enter the bakery. A wide menu to choose from and freshly homemade pastries 🍰 . Love it here. Will keep going back for more.

Lovely "mothership" restaurant and deli to the Dalebrook Cafe. I will confess to driving here regularly for the phenomenal nutty vegan cake, which is delish and super decadent, as well as being gluten free... So basically salad ;-)

Really great place. Lovely bakery section and outdoor seating. Breakfasts are really good, but sometimes just slightly miss the mark. If it wasn’t for that, would give 5 stars. Would definitely recommend giving it a go!
Garth de Klerk
Extremely close to 5 stars. I think the service maybe would have been the difference. They were ok but not attentive but not horrible. The good and atmosphere however was incredible. The food was awesome. Will definitely return. 🙏🙏
Quinton Luck
One of my favourites for breakfast and lunch. Great thing about the menu is the healthy options. You can see a lot of thought goes into their recipes. Sit inside or outside in their garden. They also have a shop where you can purchase bakery goods, condiments snacks and coffee. Can get very busy on the weekend.
Paula Joubert
Best white chocolate cheesecake ever. Very good coffee. Beautiful setting.

The outside area is lovely - you’re sitting in a lush green space that feels refreshing on a hot summer day. The food is delicious, even though we would have appreciated a bit more flexibility in terms of preparation - apparently they don’t prepare it freshly, so it wasn’t possible to get veggies without salt. The cheesecakes are to die for.
Amanda Tswina
This should be a 5 star considering the food is amazing but unfortunately the staff isn’t very friendly and courteous. A lot of confusion from mostly the female (nothing against females) staff and mixing up orders (we had a male and female serving us) The chef and kitchen team deserve 5* The hostess at the door is amazing I would certainly recommend

This trendy roadside deli has something for everyone. It offers scrumptious meals with separate breakfast and lunchtime menus. They cater for vegan patrons too. You can browse the deli for delicious organic products, or order any of their meals as takeaway. Local favourites include their quiches and open sandwiches. The outside deck is the best place to enjoy your meal.

My husband took me for a date to this quaint hideout in Constantia as my brief was " it had to be interesting, non pretentious and must serve Chardonnay. We were served by a delightful lady name Rufaro and really enjoyed speaking with her..tried various items on the menu and bought a few items to go...all in all a wonderful surprise. Definitely will return for breakfast.
Bianca May
Such a lovely place for breakfast or lunch. Good food, good coffee and good cakes! Service was good, no complaints and love the outdoor sitting area with the deli shop inside. Super cute!

If you love cake I recommend this gem! They are extremely generous with their slices. From vegan to gluten free, Service was great. I will definitely be back.

I went with my friend and the atmosphere was wonderful. The service was absolutely quite the best I have received from any restaurant in a long time. Thank you for our lovely experience. Will definitely be back!

Had a great breakfast here. Excellent service from Loveness. Recommended

The barista bar is a humming hive of exuberant coffee excellence but the experience at the till is always less stellar :-< It's pricey [but it's Constantia] but I'll keep going back for the coffee - those boys are serious about giving you a good experience!

Disappointing visit for breakfast today. One meal arrived without the salmon and when we told the waiter he didn’t seem surprised and went back to the kitchen and got some. The poached eggs were cold and the bacon of bad quality. One meal arrived after everyone had finished eating and the waiter blamed the kitchen and the kitchen blamed the waiter. We were charged for the late/forgotten meal. Coffee was good but won’t be visiting Chardonnay Deli again!

Had heard about this quirky venue and was pleasantly surprised once parking was found. Chairs and tables all different which gave off that quirky feel. Also surprised to find the restaurant almost full at 0900 in the morning. Order tea and coffee which quickly arrived and was then introduced to the breakfast board by our friendly and efficient waitress. we ordered the Omelette -R60 with cheese and banana and the full breakfast - R75. after a short wait they both arrived looking good. The omelette was tasty and well filled whilst the full breakfast was fairly standard and tasty. I suspect the bacon cam out of a general bacon tray as it was a little dry and just warm - pity. The rest of the breakfast was great and we both left well satisfied with the morning meal. Although the restaurant allows dogs on a leash I feel that owners should then at least keep them under their table and not lying full out in the path of the staff trying to serve tables. There was beautiful long haired German Shepard lying behind my chair who took up the entire walk way and its owner was unperturbed about our waitress struggling over and around it. Would I go back YES there and a few more delights on the breakfast menu to try out

Yesterday ( Mother's Day) was just the most beautiful autumn day in Cape Town. We popped in at Chardonnay Deli for coffee, only to be tempted by an extravagant display of delicious cakes. The apple pie had a generous filling and was very tasty. The passion fruit cheese cake was one of the best I have tasted. Service was excellent too, even though they were very busy. We will certainly visit this special spot again.

I LOVE Chardonnay Deli for the vibe and ambiance. I'm vegan so their vegan nut cake is to die for ! I always have a decaf flat white with soya or almond milk. They have an extensive menu written on a blackboard but I haven't sampled it yet. Grant the front of house Manager is so friendly and helpful. I love his chic dresscode with his bowtie! The deli options as sit down or takeaway are plentiful :)
Bev Morrison
What a delightful little spot! Amazing venue, quaint and rustic and amazing service.
Rhonel Stoltz
The front of the deli doesn't tell of the secret garden at the back. What a lovely Sunday treat! The food is excellent, the service friendly and good. We will definitely be returning.
Josie
It is such a cute, friendly cafe which has a really nice outside area at the back where you can sit in the sun or on the shade. The food I had was simple - just avo on toast - but it was also simply delicious. The staff are very friendly and the service is fast.

#veganfriendly #veganoptions #glutenfreeoptions

Had a breakfast there after a run..ordered the French toast....which was a bit over price at R100..but well the description sounded amazing. But when our food came..it was two slices of basic checkers bread...and bacon..not even syrup on the toast..the toast was soggy from the oil. Did not expect this level of food from this type of shops..even more if you read the owners history and her love for food...very dissapointed.
Mario Vermeulen
Very Disappointing... Everything in the deli looks great unfortunately tasteless. Had French toast R100 and a beef pie R50 and the money spend is not worth it. For two slice of toat and bacon dripping of oil and a pie so over spiced I would not even consider the rest of the menu. Biggest disappointment for my Cape Town food experience.

Lovely venue, friendly staff, fresh ingredients, delicious and generously portioned meals. Priced just right. Their coffee is also excellent. I'd also recommend trying their confectionery - very tasty cheese cake. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town. They knock the socks off other establishments which tend to downgrade the quality of their ingredients and shrink their portions over time. Chardonnay Deli consistently impress me, at each and every visit. Can't wait to visit their soon to be launched Dalebrook Café in Kalk Bay.
Foodie From All Over
Such an amazing place to eat and also buy fresh organic groceries. The baked cakes are amazing along with everything else. If you are looking for a farm style breakfast or lunch or just a quick coffee I highly recommend.
Catherine Kannemeyer
Wonderful setting. Tasty food. Generous portions. Excellent bread. Yum cake. Sadly unlicensed. But that is the only sad thing. Try it. Their breakfasts are lovely too.
Natalie21j
We met for a quick bookclub meeting, it was a late Saturday afternoon so a lot of the baked goods were sold out but I was okay with that because it means more than likely their stuff is just super fresh. While our orders were a solid 3.5 Stars, the staff were definitely worth an extra half a star. I’ll have to try it again to make sure I’m not
Being to generous ;)
Anisa
Had a veggie wrap that was tasteless and my daughter ordered a butternut salad that arrived with no butternut in it and we were not informed before the salad arrived that they didn't have any more butternut. The table next to us had the same issue.
Leila Smeyatsky
Chardonnay Deli offers a lovely setting and outside seating, especially on a warm day. I had a delicious fresh juice. But the veggie wrap was very disappointing. Flavourless, boiled butternut, feta and lettuce was not what I expected when I ordered.
Charné
We came by for takeaway cake and found the staff rocking out to some cool music. Look like they really enjoy working at the deli. I really enjoyed the yoghurt cake, but the cheesecake was a bit sweet and less tangy than we expected. I'd go back to try the other interesting sounding cakes.
Abi Stander
Finally made a plan to try this little gem out and it was definitely worth the trip. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is friendly and welcoming, and there are seating options inside or outside amongst some beautiful Greenery.
We visited for lunch and they have a daily specials board that you order from. We opted for the bacon and mozzarella croissant and the tomato and basil soup. Not that it was a contest, but if it was, the soup would have won by far - truly the best tomato soup I've ever had. A bonus is that it is served with thick cuts of their delicious homemade bread (which you can purchase from the deli).
The cheesecake was highly recommended and it definitely delivered! The caramel cheesecake is the best I've had in Cape Town so far.
Everything from the decor, menu options, deli and wonderful staff made it such a pleasant experience.
If I lived in the area, I would definitely be a regular

This lovely farm stall cafe which is located just a stones throw away from Constantia village serves up lovely rustic and healthy meals. And if that's not enough, there is an array of decadent delights in the deli that tempt you as soon as you walk in!

I had breakfast wth a friend here this morning. The place was busy (clearly very popular) and there were no seats inside so we sat outside in the garden area. Because of the rain, a cover was put up and there were also two heaters which kept all the diners cosy. The staff offer blankets as well for extra warmth. I'm sure sitting outside would be even better in summer when it's hot outside.

The drinks menu is available at the table. We both had a cuppa Truth coffee! As far as the menu goes, the focus is clearly for the health-conscious and also boasts plenty of vegetarian options. The options are presented on a blackboard at the one end of the cafe. To eat, my friend had a health bowl with extra honey and enjoyed it - she said she'd give it a solid 4/5. I opted for the Benedict (Single English muffin slice with ham, LOTS of avocado, soft poached eggs and spinach sauce). I found the sauce watery but the meal as a whole was good.

The service was okay. We had to constantly signal someone to come help us when we wanted to order and pay for the bill though.
Steven Edwards
The flourless chocolate cake was really good - rich and smooth, full of a kind of chocolate mousse.

The service could have been a bit more efficient but this may have been due to the big birthday group outside.
Heidi Horrell
Good food, but not such good service. Waited a very long time to try and get the waitress' attention after her walking past repeatedly without making eye contact or just not being in sight
Douglas Lorimer
Farm breakfast = good.
We met a friend for brekkie at Chardonnay Deli this morning. I'd love to claim that we sampled the menu in a sophisticated fashion, but actually, all seven of us ordered the farm breakfast. So all I can review is the farm breakfast. Luckily it was good. Hence the title.
Homemade bread, good marmalade, copious bacon, poached eggs cooked just the right amount. Looks like the coffee is from Truth, so also top notch.
Setting is picturesque, especially the open area out back. There were a few flies inside though. Service also attentive without hovering.
Aimee Smale
I really enjoyed this place, it's got a wonderful rustic farmhouse feel which is perfect for those weekend cozy feelings.

I judge a restaurant based on how they serve water (jugs for a table, only by glass, only by bottle). As soon as we walked in we got a jug of water with mint and glasses for the whole table, this to me is so important.

I had their eggs benedict which was delicious and very enjoyable. It's the perfect place to go after a Saturday morning run or cycle. It seems to be the hot spot for Cape Town's fittest. If you're not wearing takkies and sports gear you might feel left out.

But there's something for everyone, including vegans! The deli as you walk in is also worth a look with scrumptious looking baked goods and fancy jams and preserves.

All in all a very pleasant experience the gardens surrounding the restaurant are also amazing. You will definitely find me there again.

A very nice little cafe in nature! Sitting under huge trees and nice umbrellas. Service and food was very good. Breakfast was very tasty specifically the French Toast with berry compote. Loved the Rooibos Strawberry Ice Tea. A great place to visit with amazing baked products to take home.

Chadonnay Deli is a farm stall restaurant that is always lively and buzzing, with most of the seating outside in a garden setting. The service is friendly and helpful. The menu offers a few vegetarian options which are nice.

My friend and I had lunch here recently. We both had the cold coffee to drink - delicious! For mains I had the veggie wrap, which was nice but maybe a bit too much lettuce. My friend enjoyed her quiche which was quite a large portion. We both appreciated the side salads which were given attention and took the meal up a notch.

Overall, a great deli with the atmosphere and seating making it feel unique. The food is good and I'd definitely recommend ordering the cold coffee. Would love to go back to try some of their breakfasts.
Epikoros
Vibrant and busy deli spot. Nice breads on offer and lovely place to have breakfast. Omelette was slightly dry, salmon on sourdough with avo, cream cheese, pesto and pickled onions is beautifully presented albeit a little small as a breakfast dish.
Nadia Janse Van Rensburg
Stunning hide away... dont walk in hungry for you will want to order everything. Such a beautiful deli in the front that leads to a tucked away back between the forest. The menu is on a blackboard for the day and caters for everyone including myself that is vegan. Coffee was strong... food was yummy and just had to keep room for a slice of vegan cake... the perfect spot for a lunch and long chat with an old friend or pack your fav book, order coffee and relax between the big trees.

Chardonnay Deli is one of the most beautiful spots I've ever been to. Sit outside under the trees, and nosh on absolutely fantastic food and drinks.

I tried the French Toast and it was rich, moreish and oh-so-decadent. The coffee was fanastic too. Others in our group had freshly squeezed juices and some of the other dishes - everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they ordered.

Literally the only thing I didn't enjoy was the seating - as you sit on stones, the chairs are a little wobbly and uncomfortable, but that's easily solved by sitting on the patio.

As it's a deli, there are also loads of delicious items to buy inside, from jams and chutneys, to pies, quiches, cakes, and even books.

Fantastic spot!
Simira
We came here for coffee this afternoon to try something new. At a first glance the outside area is lovely and shaded beneath old oaks. It would have been such a lovely experience had it not been for the smell that came from the area around the seating- smelt like sewage; gross. Put us off the coffee a little. The brownie I ordered was different but not bad and the coffee came fast. The farm stall on the inside offers great little eats and treats.

What a good find! Constantia often feels too polished for my personal taste and this spot is quaint and has an authentic easy going vibe to it. Of course food matters and they won't leave you wanting. Artisanal bakery with pastries to die for and serving Truth coffee, you won't be disappointed. Awesome courtyard at the back!
Samantha Tame Whittaker
What a special little place in Constantia.
Inside is a quaint, sweet deli with fresh breads, meats, preserves, flowers and many other niknaks you would expect from a deli or small farm stall. Outside is this beautiful garden style restaurant, with a magnificent view synonymous with the lush Constantia area.
The staff were great and the coffee, which is supplied by the Truth coffee brand, is amazing.
Absolutely loved our breakfasts, every detail was perfect. My friend had this poached egg on a potato rosti and she couldn't stop raving about it. I had the salmon avo and capers on health bread. The bread was lined with a delicious pesto and the entire composition of the meal was perfect.
A new favorite in Cape Town for us.

Just had a rather pleasant breakfast experience at the Chardonnay Deli. It's has a lovely setting and the back courtyard was an awesome surprise. Both the food and the service were good and we had no complaints. It's one of those places where nothing is spectacular and yet there is nothing to complain about😁
Lexi Pauli
There is a lovely courtyard under the trees and it seems that dogs on leads are welcome.
The food was great. We had the roti and the feta & butternut quiche.
Staff are very friendly.
Prices are slightly more then average.
The vegan chocolate torte is simply amazing - gooey goodness.
You must try the freshly squeezed apple juice, also a winner.
Really pleasant atmosphere and you can buy some yummy treats on your way out.
It's a win win.

Very trendy Constantia establishment popular with the locals and as such always busy. The garden seating is delightful and the food is upmarket and well presented. The menu is creative and interesting but I found the poor service spoilt the experience in general. The deli/shop is great though and there's always something interesting and or tasty to take home with you.😘

Lovely setting within the Peaceful Constantia suburbia. The deli coupled with outside seating area is the real appeal. I had the croissant with bacon and tomato which was relatively tasty whilst my mate had the pesto roll which apparently was not great, the salad being a real let down. The chocolate brownie sounded morish but was rather average. Service is absolutely dire; we waited about an hour for essentially two rolls! Food is a little steep for what one gets and certainly won't be coming back!
Chantel Da Silva
My favorite scones in Cape Town. Till I went for lunch, had to send my food back, however the issue was not rectified. The manager didn't offer to discount the meal even though I did not eat the offending ingredient the second round either - rubber bacon on a BLT! A huge let down in service, food quality and especially dealing with an understanding but dissatisfied customer.
Kerryn Rehse
We visited Chardonnay Deli on Sunday afternoon. It was very quiet. Great seating areas and good selection of baked goods some more reasonably priced than others.
They serve #truthcoffee and have a pretty good barista
Ceone
Terribly disappointing. We stood around for about 20 minutes before finally being seated, despite having booked a table in advance and having stopped and asked every waiter we saw to please help us. The service was manic and slow and the food was so bad! Their hollandaise = mayo with coriander seeds. My omelette was swimming in sweet chili sauce and the fry-ups were so sad-looking despite being pricey! The website boasts all sorts of interesting meals, including vegan and experimental options, but the real menu is pretty lackluster. Between the 8 of us, we tried most of what was on offer and nothing was satisfying. So much potential - it's sad to see a deli run so badly.
Teresa Ulyate
I was surprised when I went inside Chardonney Deli, it doesn't look like much from the outside but there is a shop and a lovely outdoor seating area at the back. I had high hopes, but was unfortunately was very disappointed. We were a table of 10 and everything felt a bit manic, despite the fact that we were only ordering coffees. Several different waiters were taking orders and serving and in the process things were either made incorrectly or forgotten. Most of us ordered muffins and there was a bit of confusion of what was ordered. Then they arrived - small, crumbly/broken and just plonked on a board. No decoration or preserves. I ordered the blueberry muffin which did not have a single blueberry in it, but was blue!? It was also very salty, not tasty. As we left and paid the cashier was very sombre. I won't hurry to go back.
Gina.etherton
Usually an absolute delight, but today we were not too impressed. Our coffee order was forgotten- twice! Our order arrived incorrect and there was hair in the salmon. Such a pity to have to write a review like this for such a beautiful place. The waitresses didn't seem to know the menu and looks very confused. The only thing that arrived promptly was the bill. And then we waited some more for the card machine, eventually getting up and paying inside.
Bryan Vally
The back section of the deli is the star attraction here (and the primary reason for this rating). The deli serves decent enough food - based on a breakfast I had there a year ago - and their coffee is good! There's a world of temptation in the deli as well... A great local coffee option, especially to avoid Constantia Village.
Brandon Lynch
Amazing truth coffee served and friendly service.
Menu is quite limited for breakfast and lunch, but you can always grab delicious deli food from the farm stalls with fresh local produce and amazing cakes.
Does get busy on the weekends in the morning with a lot of people who think they are cyclists clambering around with there cycling shoes and lycra shorts.
Nice outdoor garden area to take in the rays and read the paper.

Phoebe Kondylis
I find this place very chaotic. You have to order from a black board, the staff never really know quite what's going on and the food is always very rich. They sometimes have things such as soya milk. Very hit and miss. Not my best spot
Sami Gie
This place is amazing. Quite farmhouse decor, heathy food at a reliable price. friendly staff and good service. Best place for a Sunday breakfast
Ashna Dayal
What a lovely way to spend Valentine's Day- brunch at Chardonnay was absolutely delightful! Good and fast service, fresh and delicious food and a relaxed morning atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed a warm cup of almond coffee and a freshly baked croissant with butter, jam and cheese. The farm stall offers a wide range of fresh cakes and organic foods.
Glenn Muller
Visited this delightful place for a slice of cake with a colleague to discuss.....errrr- okay let's just say we discussed some work issues.

We both had some excellent Truth cappuccinos. Colleague had plain cheescake and I opted for the passion fruit cheescake. Both yum, and will return to try some of the other cakes. Super, friendly service adds extra charm to this delightful place.

Stunning little gem unassumingly perched on the side of the street with that classic, fresh-ingredient focused Deli kinda feel welcoming you in. What is unique about Chardonnay Deli is that they never have a set menu, but rather it changes from day to day and is presented on chalk boards which are propped up in various places around the cafe. You never have to worry about getting bored because you'll end up ordering a different meal every time! Expect to wait a little longer owing to the slower-than-usual service. We sat on the outside deck which is perfect on a sunny day. It's has a pretty view of a quaint little garden as well as their heavenly-smelling bakery . I had the health salad which was tossed together with strawberries, watermelon, feta and rosa tomatoes and it was just delicious! While it may not appear on the menu again, the meal was an example of the pride which the deli takes in serving its customers the freshest and tastiest ingredients. Definitely worth a try on a day that you are not in a rush!
Zanel
My friends and I enjoy going for a cuppa and some cake so when they arrived in town I wanted to take them to a cute cafe where we could just sit back and catch up. And that's exactly what Chardonnay Deli is, the setting is adorable with odd chairs and pictures all over the walls. After a few walks to the cake display, we finally decided on the chocolate cake and chocolate cheese cake. Sadly, the chocolate cake was rather dry and did not meet our expectations. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive.
Kirsty Donald
I always love popping into Chardonnay Deli for a fresh juice, delicious sandwiches or some yummy cake. This last visit was a cake stop at the end of the day. The staff are very friendly and they have a cute outside area under the trees. The cake slices are massive! The chocolate cake is amazing and they even have flourless and reduced sugar options.
Kelly Rae Gifford
What a gem! The minute I stepped foot inside my mouth was instantly watering. They have the most incredible selection of baked goods - it really is worth taking yourself there for a treat of a brekky. The decor is so cute and the general vibe is fantastic. Great spot for a catch up with friends or somewhere to read the paper on a Sunday or relax and enjoy a delish piece of cake.

I will definitely be back. loved it!
Danya Gasparre
Beautiful little hidden gem, with delicious homemade food! The chicken pie was to die for and they have really amazing smoothies and juices- definitely a worth while visit!
Sarah-Lee Tinney
definitely a cute hidden gem ! Rustic and lovely and so so good.
Great service and if you're a pie person I recommend the delicious homemade pies.
Bronwyn Coltman
What a fantastic hidden gem! Their menu varies from day to day and I was lucky enough to be there for their salmon and scrambled eggs breakfast with the creamiest, silkiest hollandaise sauce. The chef who makes the cakes obviously knows what they're doing! Absolutely delicious! They serve great coffee and fresh juices and I'd highly recommend you visit them!

A brisk walk from home to this delightful new venue in the Constantia valley allowed us to build up a good appetite for breakfast. They open early and we were the first customers on this Saturday morning. The service was great and the coffee came quickly to warm us on this chilly winter morning. Usually we sit outside under the oaks but this morning was too cold. We were celebrating so brought some bubbly and asked for a jug of orange juice which arrived freshly squeezed and ice cold. The breakfast menu was on a board and some in the party had Poached eggs with salmon and hollandaise sauce which was excellent. The eggs were well cooked and the single piece of toasted Ciabatta was sufficient. The others had the farmers breakfast which was scrambled eggs with bacon. Michele added a sausage but she did not enjoy it as it was a bit dry and chewy but the rest was great. We have had lunch and coffee with cake here before and we always leave satisfied. Well done Charmaine you have a gem and you will see us again.
