Review Simon's Restaurant - Constantia

Gill A
Simon's is set amongst beautiful, rolling hills and is ensconced in so much lush greenery. It's a great place for a sunset dinner particularly during summer. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating- both holding large capacity - and the decor is tasteful in keeping with the overall atmosphere. The food is delicious and I found the portions to be decent. Added on is some great service which makes this a very pleasant dining experience. Simon's is pet friendly, which is great for pet owners but not for diners who could be subjected to unruly pet behaviour. Directions to Simon's can be tricky so follow your navigator closely if it is your first time.

The views are breath taking, the atmosphere was very calm and peaceful, and the wine was delicious. Loved the picnic experience, although the portions of food could be better, there weren't enough crackers for the cheeses and meat.
Shereen Bruinders
Spectacular picnic setting. Loved the lush vineyards. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. We were there on Sunday for my birthday and the live music added a special touch.
Jesse Twum-Boafo
Food wasn’t as nice as I wished. Lacking in flavour, it’s quite average. The atmosphere is great! Good vibe, sometimes live music is provided. Service is is very average and highly dependent on who serves you. I’ve previously had good experience with service, this time the waiter called my food choices “weird”.
Angélique Combrink
The wine, the food, the cheese, the atmosphere 👌 I come back here every time I visit. The view are stunning and the air refreshing. Very welcoming
Louis Corfield
Went there for our company end of year function, it was the picnic baskets out side. Nice location and everything ran smoothly. Food was decent too. Long line to the toilets was the only thing that was negative
Abby Humphrey
A lively and festive experience for a big group of 17. So much fun and seriously the best burger ever. Loved the wine paring suggestion. Lemon meringue was AMAZING
Cole Goldie
Beautiful venue and restaurant. Food wasn't up to par though. Food quality could be better. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with an extra mushroom sauce as the waiter advised the chicken is dry. Chicken was dry alright, mushroom sauce was more beefy and the chips were cold. I just don't think the prices for the foods they offer are worth it, they are way over priced. Glad i got to see the ducks though😄

anotget favorite place with stunning view, plenty choice of drinks and reasonable price and delicious foods. what make it more unique is that it is a "Dog friendly " place.... 😍😍😍🦮🦮🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺 my dog live a life there... ♥️♥️♥️ Dont worry, you can take your dog for a wakn around. You have plenty space to do that. Thank you for such an outstanding place and services!
Llewellyn Schoeman
Haven't been to Simon's Restaurant in ages, but they never seem to disappoint. The service and food is top class, and they are dog friendly which is a bonus for those with dogs who can behave :)

Beautiful ambience with the choice of indoor and outdoor seating. The service was great and the food was sumptuous- their chicken burger never disappoints on every visit.
Bradley Bailey
A great experience overall. Celebrating my birthday, all my favorite songs were played. Lovely atmosphere.👌😁
Luke Mckend
Had an excellent burger for lunch. My wife had the seared tuna - a larger portion which ensured that the tuna was properly seared without cooking through.
Kimberly Withum
Wow! What an amazing meal. We had late lunch here around 2 pm after wine tasting. Served by Joel we had wonderful appetizers of escargot and butternut soup, and mains of beef pancetta linguine and oxtail. Paired with the vineyard’s pintoage, what a great meal!
Chris Williams
Only my second time visiting, but for a casual restaurant dining, it really is impressive. Our waitress was super high energy and ticked all the boxes. The food was well prepared, well presented, and quickly served, even the dogs menu was interesting!. A long way out of my way for regular visits, but well worth the effort if you are in the area.
Tjarco Kunkeler
Good service, with a big smile with a great view to the mountains. Food is good
Gillian Fourie
Many thanks for hosting us on this special occasion, in celebration of my dear father’s 88th birthday. The attentive and friendly service was much appreciated! I would not recommend the Oxtail Stew, which was inseparable from the bone. One or two bones were offered sans meat, but in all fairness the fillet you served as an alternative was outstanding! 👌

Total disgust to say the least. Arrived there with my partner at 7.12pm. Ordered a cheese platter for one as a starter which took a while. At the same time ordered the main course pork spare ribs which was recommended by the waiter Angelo. We realised that after 45 minutes our meal still did not arrive and proceeded to call a waiter to find out what's happened. Only to be told Angelo had left and there is no spare ribs done. Wow. Spoke to the manager who apologised but offered absolutely no compensation. For such a great location of this resturant this was pathetic service and i surely will never go back there again. We were sitting like total fools for food that was never going to arrive.

We ordered a meat and cheese platter It was badly presented and the meat tased off. Two classes of sparking wine (must be honest that was gr8). The flies so bad that we complaint and got a candle but it did not help R770 later with a 10% tip later. Will we go there agin? For sure not and will not recommend it to anybody.

Was there on 28 December, very very disappointed, food took over an hour from ordering to eating, another hour between starters and mains. Seared salmon, cooked right through and dry. After complaining twice about slow service finally got brought a few bread slices. The restaurant was way to over booked for amount of staff.
Beverly Wallach
We went for an early lunch yesterday as I love it there. We were served by Jesus who was friendly and sweet , brought our starters and then my main but forgot to bring my partners main meal, admittedly so. I had to wait while my food got cold so that we could eat together. ALL the staff were hanging around the entrance and were oblivious to us. Not even a manager came to apologize to us. This was extremely disappointing.
Nicole Hapgood-Strickland
Terribly poor wine pairing. Bubbly had no bubbles. Had to ask for a list of what we were drinking. No explanation at all. Food on the plate was old and dried out, and not same as was stated on the list.
Sandy Topley
We loved the place went for lunch yesterday friendly staff amazing view beautiful venue food was yummy will definitely go back and the prices very reasonable
Deri-Anne Moira Schniewind
Picnic basket: strange mix of (large) salads and cheese (with about 5 biscuits) and cold meats with fresh baked but dry baguette (with no butter). Hummus & pate but nothing to eat it on. Plentiful portions but very odd mix of nice foods that didn't really go well with each other. Very expensive for a picnic but lovely setting for a relaxed father's day.
Katie Worthington
Fantastic birthday treat. Kids said their burgers were the best of the hols. 5 tasting wines and cheeseboard were to die for. Wish we lived near.
Lynette Joy Palanyandi Jeftha
I attended a 70th birthday celebration yesterday....wow the food was scrumptious. Lamb mouth watering. Will definately go back.

Simon’s at Groot Constantia was the venue we chose for our wedding in January 2018. Thank you to Dawn and the management and staff at Simon’s. You made us and our 110 guests so happy. The food was amazing, our guests haven’t stopped talking about how great it was, with the fillet steak being a firm favorite. The service was fantastic from the pre drinks right through to the clean up at the end of the evening. Angelo was the perfect gentleman to serve us at the main table and made sure we were treated like royalty all night. Thank you once again and we look forward to our next meal at Simon’s. All the best, Clyde and Kerry.

I was in Cape Town for 2.5 weeks and had the worst food I ate. We went to Simon's Christmas Day. The fish main course was inedible the service was not good and the cheese platter only arrived when we were leaving!
Terri Lee
The Taste Emporium Market is great - lots of choice for absolutely delicious food from unique vendors. One of only a few markets where vendors still make their products themselves, and believe in quality. A great deal of artisanal skill and deliciousness under one roof, and, of course all in the stunningly beautiful setting of one of CT's most gorgeous wine farms. Always a fabulous day out for the whole family.
Johan Van Schalkwyk
Fantastic wine tasting experience and the best plated fish and chips I have had in Cape Town in years! Well done. I will be back.
Lo Krijger
Not too bad. The duck liver parfait needs a work over. Not the best. At least the beer was cold and the lone sax player was lamenting. The surrounds are magnificent but that is not the only thing that makes a for great place
Kevin Alexander
Enjoyed the vibe. Beautiful place got married there 7 years ago yesterday. Food amazing but service disapointing for the cost of the food. Should be a little more kid friendy unless not their week day vibe.
Marie de Jager
I go to Simons every time I'm in Cape Town and its always a great afternoon out, fresh flavoursome favourites. This time i had the fish and chips and my friend had the pepper fillet, both were great and we had genuine friendly service. See you in a few months!!!
Annett Croasdale
Great setting, friendly efficient staff, tasty food and good wine .... what else can only ever ask for! Hope you come back one day ...
Craig Tully Allen
Lovely setting and friendly waiter. However the manager Neil’s response to a poor over cooked lamb shoulder was arrogant, disrespectful and unprofessional.
Busisiwe Mavundla
Great camembert burger. It was my first and I loved the originality and how well it worked. Wine was great as expected. The staff was very friendly as well. Even though we were a big group.
Anna Potgieter
I had a great experience at Simon’s Restaurant. We received fantastic service in this well lit and open restaurant. I would have enjoyed some soft music to add to the atmosphere.

I shared the portion of fish and chips and the spinach and ricotta ravioli with a Neapolitan sauce.

The fish was beautifully battered and cooked perfectly. The tartar sauce was perfect as well as the delicious chips.

The ravioli was well cooked and flavorful.

I would definitely recommend a meal here.
Laura Martin
Lovely food and a good place to go to for lunch. It is situated terribly far from the actual wine tasting though and there seems to be a lack of communication between the two entities which caused a bit to frustration on our part as we were promised that we would be able to finish our wine tasting at the restaurant but alas that was not the case and the staff weren’t very nice about it either.

Overall the food was cooked perfectly and they have a good selection of wines, catering to all the dishes on offer. But the ambiance was a bit destroyed after that. I would recommend it to foodies for sure and definitely a place to try, especially for tourists in Cape Town.
Livlov
Love this place , the food is amazing and never disappoints . The service is outstanding. The setting is serene and absolutely beautiful .
It’s a must
Angus
We found ourselves at Simons on a cold rainy day.it was warm and cosy inside and we were welcomed by a very congenial manageress.
We shared a capresse salad which was fresh and very tasty and then settled for the artichoke and dried tomato linguine as well as the butternut and ricotta ravioli. Both dishes looked and tasted delicious.
Simons is an underrated destination and good for a relaxing wholesome meal in pleasant and quiet surroundings.
Kelly F
We waited approx. 1 hour for our food (table of 4) and the tables around us had the same issue. With previous visits as well, service is slow. And their food is not that great that it’s worth that kind of wait.
Robin Edwards
Great food, great wine, great service and a beautiful view.. Love this place.. I ordered the pork belly, which was to die for.. my boyfriend had the salmon, he loved it! Awesome place for a romantic day out with your significant other. And a bonus: the wine tasting is not too far from the restaurant
Lizelle Brink
Lovely venue set under the trees. We had calamari and caprese salad for starters, and fish of the day (angel fish) as mains. The food was good.
Gabriella Maxine Abrahams
Pretty cool spot with some great menu options. We went here on New Year’s Day so we had to try their prime rib burger. It was simple and sublime. I did find the atmosphere a little dry but in that type of view it’s hard to feel uneasy.
Palesa.mahloele
Fantastic ambience, great food and excellent service.
The restaurant has a super chilled atmosphere and a lovely view of the vineyard as you drive in. Really enjoyed it! Highly recommend it!!
Amaryllis
Exquisite venue. Service is unfortunately lacking in excellence, but they get away with it because of the beautiful setting and influx of tourists. Every time I visit I feel frustrated with the poor service. But the location is redeeming enough to earn return visits.
Natalie21j
Unfortunately a forgettable experience. It was very full when we went on a Sunday morning but the service was slack and the food was average.
Florence 'Malehlabathe Phelanyane
Amazing cheese platter, loved the Unwooded Chardonnay! Lovely surroundings, the staff are very friendly and they offer suggestions. All round great.
Michelle Papavarnavas
Simon’s Deli is disappointing. For what you’re paying the pasta dishes are so small and not worth your buck. I ordered the ravioli and literally there were only 5 pieces covered in what tasted like a canned sauce that they just heated up. Don’t recommend eating here at all. However the view is fanatic and the atmosphere is lovely.
Shobha Maruthy
Had been to this lovely restaurant after wine tasting @ Groot Constantia Wine Estate, We decided to have a meal as we were high and hungry after all the wine tasting ;)

We ordered Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli,Fried Salt & Pepper Calamari And Slow Braised Pork Belly. Both the dish tasted extremely well and made to perfection. The presentation of the food was top notch and the service and staff was remarkable. The ambiance and decor holds on to stay for longer. The location of the restaurant is mesmerizing and one can spend hours photographing it.
Sungula Nkabinde
Lovely. Good food. Beautiful setting. Food was very good but mine had gone slightly cold. Everybody else's meal seemed to be without fault so 4.5 it is.
Khensani Makwala
Really enjoyed Simon's. The food was great. But they took really long to take our orders and to serve us our drinks. But overall a great experience.
Phenyo Makgabo
Truly a stunning place to have a lazy Sunday, but definitely not a place to go if you're expecting great service. The wine tasting selection is brilliant though.
Johan Van Dyk
We sat outside on a winter day. It was lovely sunny weather.
I ordered the beef Burger. It was a homemade patty and the bun was crispy fresh. Over all the food was amazing. The service was good too.
Lynda Cooper
A solid old Constantia favorite. Not wildly impressive but decent. New menu is an improvement and the wine list is always good. It's hard not to enjoy a meal in this beautiful setting. The trick is to order simple dishes... Fish, steak, pork belly... They do the classics pretty well.
Tess Summerfield-Green
Went on a Friday for lunch. The music was horrible, the decor is very outdated with no ambience what so ever. With regards to food, the Beef Fillet was chargrilled, yes I asked for it to be well done but I have had well done Beef fillet at other places and it has been amazing. The chips that accompany it were very nice. My mother had the fish of the day which she thoroughly enjoyed. Service was good otherwise.
Chad Marks
What an absolute pleasure visiting Simon's at Groot Constantia this past Wednesday. It was my first time and had decided to take my mom and fiancé out for the day and it was perfect. Service was slightly slow but from the stunning views and laid back atmosphere (and great music) to possibly the best steak I have enjoyed in years, everything was awesome and more than compensates and honestly, I just can't wait to go back!! A definite must if you love quality
Robin Mahlangu
Lovely location to enjoy a good lunch in the open air. The waitrons were very helpful and welcoming. The food looked amazing, the only downside was the burger definitely looked better than it tasted, it was just okay, nothing more nothing less in my opinion. The cheesecake was lovely, but and enjoyable experience all around.
Tiyaarah Cloete
Not my favorite place, I found it subpar on the several occasions I'd been there since high school. There unfortunately has never been much of a variety for me. It is beautiful though
KL Ligtenberg
Booked a lunch over Easter with the family, always enjoy the beautiful setting.
Unfortunately the food was very mediocre. I had the chicken peri peri and after taking a piece of plastic out of my plate I asked the waiter to at least notify the kitchen, the manager appologiced but I lost my appetite. I expected a small gesture, maybe a desert or gas of wine on the house but nothing like that. Seems to be normal, not impressed.
Tracy Skellern
Setting not bad but picnic basket is really not worth the price. Food is boring and bland and tasteless. Service is absolutely terrible!!! Had to ask waiters for same thing 5 times. Plates were never cleared. Won't be returning
Chanel Pillay
I had such a lovely afternoon at Groot Constantia, mainly because of this lovely restaurant we had lunch at.

The service was impeccable, we had a lovely waiter who made great suggestions on what we should eat.

There was three of us and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal accompanied by a glass of bubbly.

I had the peri-peri chicken which was a 10 out of 10 in every way and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes a little heat. The portion is also quite big as I shared it with my friend and we both left satisfied.

For dessert, we had the chocolate brownie which was a sweet end to a lovely lunch.
Jeremy Dinkelmann
Well haven't been back here for a long time as there is so many other good restaurants around these days. This visit was however super disappointing with regards to the main meal served. Wife had the kingklip, and made me taste it. All I can say was that there is better fish to be had at a corner fish and chip shop. I left at least half of my steak as it was all fat and gristle.

Lovely setting and good service, but unfortunately I don't think I will be back in a hurry, and then it might only be to grab a burger.

Sunday Market at the Simon's restaurant, another way of offering their delicious boards of cheese or cured meats, with or without wine pairings. There are many goodies available from the deli, the chicken mayo sandwich is excellent! Very little for vegetarians. There's a brilliant craft beer selection, and there are always oysters... Outside and inside is stunningly beautiful!🍃 perfect for a picnic spot or a stroll in the lawns👣
Janthinus Schrage
How amazing is this place. Take a stroll past the first deli at Groot Constantia beyond the duckpond and arrive at Simons. Nestled under the vines pergola it offers everything your hunger needs. Crisp tables and naturally awesome food and wine. Menus offer anything from a light lunch to something that meets the biggest hunger. I enjoyed their artichoke & sundried tomato linguine with parmesan, a lovely red and topping it off with a pud. Creme Brule! Well prepared with succulent ingredients this was a dine plus in my book.
Gabi
Food good, well priced for Cape Town in season. Service was slowish, but management handled it well with freebie coffees for entire table which was unexpected! Will be back. Calamari was superb.
Mel Woudberg
The food is ok, the service was SO slow... our waiter kept forgetting about us. There didn't seem to be enough waiters on duty for the evening. Super pricey as well. Wont go back.
Zak Dylan Morris
A picturesque setting on a 300 year old farm. How can you go wrong!? The staff are extremely friendly and on point, combining with great food and quick friendly bar staff. It was a wonderful December experience. Thank you for having us!
Derek Miller
It seems that Simon's on a sunny Friday in December is x perfect place for a year end lunch. Although I have not been there for some time I recall having to wait a long time to be seated and this time was no different. But once seated I was served promptly and the rest of the time service was ok. I had the the Peri-peri chicken and was disappointed by the lack of flavour, the maenads had not penetrated and the meat was dry. The Fish and chips looked good and the sirloin was tender and well cooked. The pepper and mushroom sauces were good. But the deserts took the cake(so to speak) New York cheese cake is always a winner and the chocolate mousse was amazing. Great venue but missing something?
Michella Ferreira Pellegrino
Situated On the groot constantia vineyard, which has had 330 years of success, if my memory serves me correctly. We experience the most tranquil lunch. Wine was the primary selection so we ordered the Sauvignon blanc 2015 and pared it with the Cajun Patagonian calamari served with salad and black muscles with chips. The food was amazing, but the experience far worth while. The view you experience of the vineyard being met by a mountain is priceless. We proceeded to the wine and chocolate tasting, if I had done that then gone to lunch I would have opted for the Pinotage, and married it with a great South African steak.

Simon's at Groot Constantia is an absolute gem. First, you have the amazing location which cannot be overstated enough. The service here is phenomenal, and they can cook meat to temperature perfectly. It's a triple threat.
Danica Astra Prout-Jones
My sister and I decided to celebrate the beginning of Cape Town's unbeatable summer and treat ourselves to lunch at Simon's! From the sophisticated restaurant setting to the happy wait staff to the delicious food, our expectations were exceeded. We did not have one allocated waiter but whoever did pour our wine, fill up our water glasses or deliver our food, the service was all round great. There was some confusion with our main order and we waited a little longer than expected but with such a beautiful and relaxing setting and the wine going down as well as it did, we didn't mind the wait! The prawns were on fire- literally. If you like your food with a chilli kick then you'd love these! We stayed on the healthier side of the menu, ordering salads for our main course that actually looked too good to eat! Basic ingredients but super tasty! I had my eye on the gourmet burger and when I go back next time I'll definitely try it. Thank you Simon's!!
Simone Hasselbach
This was really an awful experience. Had groupon vouchers for lunch. The place was empty and a dj was setting up for a wedding later that day which was loud and annoying all through out visit. Service was super slow and unattentive. Wanted to order wine from the selection on 3 or 4 black boards, and literally took about half an hour as every choice was "not available". I mean seriously - if you dont have it then dont put it on the list in the first place. Food was average and cold. Will definitely not go back for a while. Poor tourists 😟

After Wine Tasting my friends and I went to the Simon's Restaurant for a late lunch. We enjoyed the food and the food was phenomenal and outstanding. The waiters were so kind .I would come there again.

Dec 27 lunch: After the visit and wine tasting at Groot, we managed to get a place at the resturant - its quite a big place and though it was summer, it was very pleasant to sit outside. The setting is so nice. There is a children's play area as well. Started with the Blanc de noir wine from Groot Constantia - nice rose wine. The side chips were crisp and with right amount of salt. Among the items we ordered and enjoyed were fish n chips, mushroom linguine, peri peri chicken and grilled prawns. Though veg options are limited, the food is really good. The mushroom dish is made of cream, white wine and herbs. The desserts literally took the cake. The choco mousse came with dipped wafer biscuits and tasted awesome. The new york based cheesecake came with ice cream and strawberry - nice. The service was quite good. A really enjoyable eating experience.
Tabassum Smiley Aleem
Absolutely love this place. Its perfect for a family lunch or brunch with your friends. My favourite on the menu is definitely the cheesecake and the creme brule is just about perfect. Food is so beautifully presented
Deee
A group of friends and I decided to have a relaxed lunch here and were pleasantly surprised by the natural beauty, wine and food at Groot Constantia. We began with the wine tasting (paired with chocolates specifically designed for each wine) which we thoroughly enjoyed, and later moved on to Simon's for a late lunch. The food was good, however sometimes we did feel like it lacked abit of flavour. The favourite meals from the table were definitely the fish and chips and the steak.
Portia Mothetho
Had the most amazing experience at this cozy spot, everything was made to absolute perfection, my pallet is still in awe, the service was amazing, I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my birthday 🍴.. Thank you Simons
Barbara Ann Hall
A laid back, local experience in the Groot Constantia grounds. Perfect to sit outside on a beautiful Cape Town day!
Menu is comprehensive and varied. Prices are good, as is the service and the quality of the food. Definitely worth a visit!
Sumendra Chetty
Picturesque setting with views that are so beautiful you will struggle to leave Simon's Restaurant :) Good news is that you can always go back! My sister had the delicious mushroom linguine while I had the fish and chips. I am awed- best meal I've had in a while! We ended with the cheese platter- so worth it. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive. All round amazing day.
Pree
Simon's Restaurant in Constantia is one of my favourite places to dine. The Mushroom Linguine is divine and the staff are amazing. I've never had a bad experience at this establishment. I ventured into this restaurant one day, purely because Jonkershuis Restaurant was fully booked...and boy what a blessing! Definitely a place to visit if you want great food, great service and great views!
Christopher Mills
This morning my wife and I had a disgusting experience at a restaurant in Constantia with kitchen staff swearing at each other, slow service and a myriad of other problems that resulted in us leaving. We were on a tight schedule with a baby sitter and were dreading that we'd wasted our time together, but we hurried down the road to Simon's and THANK GOODNESS WE DID.

The service was 5/5
My prawns were 5/5
My wife's fish was 5/5
The experience was 5/5
The cheesecake was 10/5 ;)

Absolutely fantastic, and after our horrible experience at the other restaurant, Simon's made our day special and allowed us to forget about it.

Well done to Simon's and all the staff, outstanding.
Egor Arkhipov
This restaurant does not have the most brilliant menu or food that will make you wish you could eat forever; but I have been there many times and I have never eaten badly here. Always good quality service, good quality food and stunning atmosphere. Very spacious and large, and in winter sitting by the fire place and sipping on some good quality wine while slicing in to a medium cooked sirloin, never a bad decision.
Jenny

Went with friends for dinner on Saturday evening. The restaurant was very quiet.
Ordered the peri peri chicken was moist and tender the sauce on the side could have been hotter but was excellent .
Great Don Pedro's.
Tony Paladin
Lovely setting. Great food. Fantastic service! Lekker place for kids to play on the jungle gyms! The food was all top notch with no room to complain.
I Love Foodies
Last week for our CT Food Challenge picnic experience, we decided to stay close to home and not venture out of the city itself. Wine estate of choice? Groot Constantia. Situated a mere fifteen to twenty minutes outside of the city centre, this spot had the appeal of being the perfect picnic place with minimal travel time required.
Stuart
Went to Simons on a particularly stunning evening. The vines and iceberg roses lined the road to the restaurant. Shown to our table smartly and ordered drinks. Unfortunately the Stella draft had sold out.
All guests ordered starters from Cajun calamari to peri peri prawns. All yum.
For mains the table ordered peri peri chicken, pork belly, steak and kingklip. All delicious. The steak although it had a mushroom sauce, lacked seasoning. The chicken was way better than Dias Tavern.
The bill for 6 of us was R1800 with a tip.
We've been to Simons before. But I think this time they nailed it!
Nicole Velleman
Best fish and chips I've had in a while. Tasted the mushroom linguine which was amazing too. Great service and a super relaxing setting. A lot quieter than I expected (which was great)!
Phoebe Kondylis
Due to a wonderful setting Simons has always been popular. You can't go wrong with picturesque Constantia. The last few times I've been I wasn't overly impressed with my food. The service was great.
Serena Seunarain
Had thee most amazing Birthday Breakfast at simons restaurant prior to a wine tour at Groot Constantia.

The vibe, the surroundings, the service and the food was impeccable
Nooru Harnekar
I was invited to Simon's for a Sunday lunch birthday bash. Walking in I had high hopes..unfortunately we had to wait extremely long for drinks and our orders were taken incorrectly, one person was left waiting while everyone had almost finished eating. I opted for the Peri-peri prawns with spiced rice for the main (because I'm a sucker for shellfish) and it was very tasty. My partner had the salt and pepper calamari which was better than I expected. We also shared the mushroom linguine to start. All in all the food was good but could it make up for the lack of service? On the fence about returning.

Luncheon at this beautiful venue set overlooking the vineyards of Groot Constantia is pure bliss. The estate is beautifully & lovingly maintained so taking a stroll around after lunch is a must. The menu offers delicious light meals and old favourites. Safe for kiddies to run around while you sip a light wine or crisp beer. Their seafood & salads are our favourite!
Jenna Espley-Jones
Simon's menu offers a unique spin on traditional South African dishes. Take for example, their spicy bobotie dumplings or fried salt and pepper calamari. I particularly enjoyed their soft and juicy slow braised pork belly with its mouth watering smokey jus. Coupled with the smooth Groot Constantia Merlot, it was certainly a memorable meal. The restaurant itself looked a tad shabby and could do with a bit of work but it's scenic setting alongside the sprawling vineyards by makes up for this. The servers are friendly, knowledgable and unobtrusive. A lovely place for a relaxed Sunday lunch.
Zanel
Beautiful setting with plenty of space outside. We were a big group, but our waiter was very efficient and friendly. They were also very accommodating when were asked to be moved. For mains I had a fillet steak with pepper sauce, fries and an extra side of vegetables. The steak was lovely and done perfectly, but the portion of veg minimal. I chose the chocolate mousse for dessert and besides having a finger biscuit shoved oddly in the glass, it was tasty and satisfying.
Emma Bowen
I just came home from a wedding here at Simons. The starters were good, and the main- peri peri chicken was tasty. The bite sized cheesecakes and brownies were divine! Obviously a wedding is a slightly different situation to an everyday occasion at the restaurant, but it gives me a good incentive to come back. Service was also on point! And of course, the view was incredible!
GideonC
Went for Sunday lunch - good food and great service! Calamari main is highly recommended ;) but will also need to work my way through some other menu items
Claudia Penny
To put it very simply: I have super mixed feelings about Simon's. The views are great and the vibe is friendly and happy which makes it a really great place as a whole. The service was excellent! (I wish I got her name!) The food, however, was a bit disappointing. My chicken burger was McDonald's size, with very little brie and such an obviously canned cranberry sauce. I was honestly very disappointed. The prawns apparently didn't taste fresh, and there were a few other 'okays' at the table. THE FISH AND CHIPS IS AMAZING, apparently. So get that. It wasnt a horrible experience, but I will definitely try something else next time.
Kirsty O'Connell
I recently went to Simon's for breakfast. Stunning views, incredibly friendly staff. The food took really really long, I had ordered Eggs Benedict and the English Muffin was totally raw in the center. I rarely send things back, but it wasn't edible. When it came back it was delicious, and everyone else at my table had delicious food too, although the Continental Plate (which is a cheese and charcuterie platter) was a little sparse. The deli has some hidden gems, like the wonderful truffle products I found, but some of their products, such as the nougat in the photo, were just Woolworths products with a Simons sticker covering the original label. There are some really great things about Simons, but I just expected more from such an esteemed establishment.
Sharna-Lee Clarke
Breathtaking venue and view, but the service was astonishingly bad. Our waitress had a terrible attitude and actually rolled her eyes a few times. The food was average, apart from being cold. I was more impressed by the view than anything else.
Meghnaaz Williams
What a lovely afternoon at Simons. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was impeccable and we didn't have to wait very long even though we were 68 people. The view was incredible! Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend

Having lunch at Simons,we are a party of 25, since we arrived the service is pathetic,we waited for breads for the table around 55min, our mains arrived in drips and drabs, the last meal came out of the kitchen when everyone was done with their meals,
Service again....shocking,
However great the meal, service must compliment it.
Must confess, food is good.
Rating should be higher if service improves.

Went to Simons for a belated birthday dinner this week and it was wonderful! This restaurant has some nostalgia for us so that always factors in but that aside... The food was delicious, staff friendly and service weirdly fast!!! Definitely recommended :)!

Summer spot on the terrace ideal for a long lazy lunch. We had a great meal with delicious wine. Well priced and worth the drive over the mountain.

My boyfriend took me here for a relaxing lunch on this overcast Saturday. Walking in, we were greeted cheerfully and helped to a table we wanted. Service was attentive but unobtrusive.
I enjoyed the burger, and added the cheddar and streaky bacon. It was good, but my word! The chips on the side were perfect.
My boyfriend chose the slow roasted lamb shoulder... it was the most fantastically perfect lamb dish. His knife was purely for display, as the lamb happily slid off at the poke of a fork in a gorgeous pink blush. It was the sort of thing you have dreams about.
Lovely lunch and experience. Will definitely be back.

We went to Simons to watch the rugby and have a meal. The positives: the waiters managed a large table of haphazard orders fantastically. The setting is beautiful - especially on a beautiful day. The downsides - the menu is very limited and not very interesting for a restaurant of this reputation. I had the grilled calamari, which tasted great. However, although the chips were delicious, it was rather disappointing that there were no other options for sides, and that was no salad/veg with the main.

Yesterday my family went to Simons for a family Sunday lunch. I tried the Pork Belly and Mash. The entire meal was delicious- beautiful cooked pork and perfectly smooth mash. However the portions were small, considering it's hefty price and the 80 minute wait (yes you read that correctly!) to be served. Better luck next time Simons!

We were unfortunate in that the weather turned cold and miserable so sitting outside wasn't an option which I think is one of the attractions to this restaurant being situated on a wine farm. The service was great and our waiter was very helpful. I had the carpaccio as a starter which as far as they go was good 7/10. I also tried some of the salmon which was ok 6/10. I went on to order the pork belly which left me slightly disappointed. The pork was well cooked, the mash that accompanied it was good, but the way in which they cooked the crackling just didn't do it for me and the gravy that was on the plate did not suffice as it was bland. I give the pork belly a generous 6/10. Overall I expected more from Simons.

A part of the Groot Constantia Wine Estate, Simon's Deli is the restaurant just behind the original homestead, now a museum and worth wandering through. By that time we were parched, so Simon's was just in the right place to have something cold to drink.
They prepare picnic baskets on order. A deli with fresh salads, bread, cheese and snacks are available for a spur of the moment picnic in the beautiful garden. With Groot Constantia wines, of course.
Friendly & helpful staff.

A table of 8 of us went to Simons on a Sunday for a friends birthday and we left very disappointed. Our waiter, whilst friendly, was rather incompetent and it took him half an hour between ordering our drinks to it arriving at our table. We didn't get menus until we requested them and then the manageress came over to remove some of them as they had 'run out'. We asked our waiter to refill our jug of water, which he did, after 4 separate requests and over an hour later.

It took 2 hours for our food to arrive and when it did, we were all disappointed in our meals with my friend sending back her fillet steak as it was severely over cooked.

The manageress made no attempt to apologize or check on our order for us despite our many queries as to why it was taking so long.

We left the restaurant 4 hours later, with a sour taste due to the terrible service and below par food. I will not be returning in a hurry.

Stunning location, so if you can, try sit outside on a nice day. Great food, good service - an all round good experience for a lazy Sunday lunch.

My friend Tanya and I recently went to Groot Constantia for a wine tasting. After enjoying their chocolate and wine pairing, we headed over to Simon's Restaurant for a picnic. We’d heard great things about their picnics, but we weren’t prepared for the amazingness that ensued…

The picnic basket included a delicious baguette, a variety of cheeses, fruit salad, potato salad, a green salad, salami (my fave thing in the world) and the most delicious chocolate brownies. It was absolutely incredible – I was in heaven!

The best part about Groot Constantia is that you can have a proper meal after visiting the tasting room. So many wine farms get it wrong by only serving teeny tiny tapas, or snacks such as biltong. When I’ve had a glass of wine or two, I’m always incredibly hungry afterwards and I want to be able to eat something substantial. At Groot Constantia you can either visit Simon’s Deli, or Simon’s Restaurant – depending on how hungry you are.

The picnic basket is really well-priced, and was actually a bit too much for the two of us. I think that it can easily feed four people... Well, if you're friends with beasts (like me) probably only three people.

We went in winter, so we ended up sitting inside. But in summer you can chill under the trees with a lovely glass of wine and good company.

A definite must!

We tried Simons for the first time on Saturday evening. I must say it’s quite a detour getting there, almost got lost! :) We got to enjoy the 5 course Winter dinner which goes for R195 per person. The 5 course menu is quite a mouthful and you have to decide and tell the waiter which dish you will be having from each course upfront in order for the kitchen to get their ducks in a row (makes sense). The restaurant has a huge, beautiful fire place that they just keep loading with big logs to keep you snuggly warm! Our table was directly in front of the fire place, so we felt super lucky! I wont go into detail about the Winter menu as its quite entensive but see the pic for course details. We were left very stuffed and our waiters advice was to never break in-between the courses (as we did) as then you sort of fill up and then cannot fit it all in (we took doggy bags home of our main course!), lesson learnt! We had a lovely, informative waiter, it was such an amazing evening and I cannot wait to try them in Summer, as the outside area looks fantastic!

After some wine and chocolate pairing we decided to go for some late lunch... We were lucky enough to get a spot at Simon's Resturant. We had the prawns with rice, and beer battered hake and chips - they were both absolutely delicious and fresh, and the service was good too!

We went to simon's deli who his actually behind the main restaurant. The portion sizes are huge!! The continental is probably your best value for money. Go here on a spring morning and you won't be disappointed.
Where-oh-where
Judging by the food and poor service, it seems Simon's is not looking for regulars, they're looking for once-off tourists. The food was disappointing to say the least. Overpriced and unappetizing. We were rushed though the meal by our waiter. The interior is dated and unconsidered. There are much better places in the area to spend your time and money.

I was lucky enough to enjoy a 2 course meal at Simon's today. I chose the smoked salmon as a starter, and opted for the lamb shoulder as a main.

As yummy as the salmon was, I'm not convinced it's worth near on R80 since it felt "bulked out" with a large amount of salad leaves.

But the lamb was good! - super homely, comforting, and the portion size was incredibly generous. So you definitely get your money's worth there!

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with a modern but warm aesthetic. The staff are really friendly too.

The menu may seem a tad old school, but the food is generally well executed!

I would definitely go back for their R195, five course set menu!

I've been to Simon's a number of times and it's perfect for a Sunday lunch spent with family. The view is stunning and encompasses the Cape Winelands. Every time I have been there, the food has been delectable. One time, there was a juicy, tender fillet special served on a potato rosti with some heavenly sauce but much to my dismay they have since not had this while I have been there (please bring this back? :))
Jenny Sarah Coulson
Yes, it's a bit touristy, but it's also really great. I've visited Simon's a few times and enjoyed every experience. The first time I split a cheese board with a friend (it was great), the second time I had the risotto (creamy and delicious) and my most recent visit was on a hot summer's day, perfect for ordering the calamari. It was well-seasoned and the plate was huge. I will keep coming back here after a day of wine tasting, because the food and service is consistently good.

While beautifully located I found this restaurant disappointing. It lacked the ambience of a real Cape wine Farm and its prices were really not worth what we received. There was nothing special about this restaurant. In short I would say it was extremely over rated and not somewhere that I would go back to. Being spoilt for choice I feel that they need to up their game. Service was pleasant but the food was certainly nothing out of the ordinary.

My husband and I had lunch here. Wow !! What amazing food. We ordered for spicy Mozambiqan prawns, fish cake and slow braised pork belly.
The prawns were so so good!! If you like spicy .. Go for it!!
Will definitely recommend this restaurant !!

In short.. Great food, great service. Ordered the fillet steak and the lamb shank. Both were lovely. The tranquil setting of the surrounding vineyard is another plus. Will definitely be back

An all-time favourite destination on a sunny day. Service has never dissapointed, food is also of value, and the estate wines are good. Love the blank de noir on a summers day!

Fantastic orgasmic salmon fishcake. Delicious caprese salad and smoked salmon with melba toast. Great cheese board to pick from. Pongracz Brut and Groot Constantia Sauvignon Blanc. Beautiful setting looking out over the Constantia vineyards.

Absolutely amazing food and a great setting. Such an amazing vibe and I really suggest going with friends and drinking a whole lot of wine. I went in summer and sitting Outside was just magical !

I go to Simon's quite often for lunch in summer and really love the relaxed atmosphere and view of the vineyards. It is an extremely popular lunch spot on the weekends so I was surprised at how quiet they were last (Saturday) night. Definitely no need to book. The food is fairly reliable and I always feel comfortable inviting people along because there is generally something to satisfy any taste on the menu.

I've had a wonderful afternoon in a shady spot here, as well as very enjoyable evenings inside. The food is tasty, and the service is always quick and friendly. A really lovely place for any occasion.

Had a great slow afternoon here. Nice staff, on a big table of 12. Everything arrived together as ordered and no real complaints, kids meals a it small, but no real complaints. A big improvement since the last time I was here
Would never have guessed this is a French style restaurant based on the "description". It's located in the amazing Constantia wine lands, so fantastic scenery, great for an afternoon and evening wine, beer and bubbly. However the food is bang average, food around the table was muscles, burgers and assorted starters. Each person enjoyed it but overall bland and boring. Good ambiance but wouldn't come back for the food.

We had a great lunch at Simons! This is a brilliant little place but I would recommended booking to get a table. I was surprised to see some reviews that where not favourable and will be going back to see if we just got lucky or if the experience is inconsistent. The food was great and we shared the Malay Tasting plate with a few other starters and created a meze type lunch. Everything was delicious! We finished off with the cheese cake which was recommended by the waiter and she was spot on, it was brilliant! BUT, one slice is certainly enough for 2, it is rich, very rich!

Went to Simon's for a fantastic lunch. If the buffet options are anything to go by, the food tastes fantastic, with a great view of the winelands.

I've had to go to Simons on more than one occasion and can say maybe twice its been ok, the other times it's been the worse experience I've ever had in a restaurant in my life! Worst service and even worse management. I've sent emails complaining about my experience and have been told off in the reply! I tell everyone never to go there!!!! Rather go to Jonkershuis or BBQues thousand times better!
Nikki Desmore
Lovely atmosphere, romantic and quality service. A place I will never forget.
I would love to see more vegetarian options, otherwise I dont have any complaints.
