Highly recommended! We had Very delicious fish, salad, different wines and chocolate cake for dessert. Everything was perfect, especially the super friendly stuff. Many thanks

Great venue to enjoy a relaxing meal in a beautiful venue. The outside tables are great with spacious surrounds of lawns with oak trees. I hadn't been to jonkershuis since the original owners had it many years ago. Was pleased to see that they have a good number of vegan choices. The food quality and presentation is excellent, although prices are definitely aimed at the foreigners. The staff were great too. Highly recommend.

Gorgeous and lovely experience at the wine estate. Enjoyed the array of wines. I'd easily visit again and again. It gets a bit chilly at night

Restaurant is absolutely stunning and staff were amazing. Good food and great wine. Courtyard unfortunately gets quite hot and noisy when full but otherwise was really lovely.

An absolutely wonderful restaurant, amazing food , wonderful service and great views! You cannot ask for more. We loved every bit of the time spent here. Absolutely with a visit if you come to the groot vineyard!

Each dish was beautifully presented and tasted really good. We were quite a large party of 24 and everyone complemented the food. Best cheesecake! Portions were also great. Drinks were great and the servers were so attentive and helpful. The surroundings were beautiful and well kept... fantastic atmosphere which is perfect for adults while being kid and dog friendly. Well worth a visit.

Picked your restaurant to introduce friends from overseas to some Cape Malay cuisine a few weeks ago. Your bobotie was divine. Pork belly is one of the best I've tried in the neighborhood. I got the tasting platter with hot bowls of chicken and lamb curry, which were really good! Also a nice intro for one of my guests to the South African fave red wine - pinotage. Overall, a really excellent dining experience! Thank you đŸ’Żâ€Just my 2 cents to the management on the tray boards - the hot bowl of chicken curry slid off the board and it partly spilled onto my guest's pants before dropping to the floor. Quite a mess. It was replaced promptly and two waiters apologised profusely. But maybe those wooden boards should rather be put on the table then waiters bring the hot plates/tubs on a tray. The boards have no borders and have no grip to keep those hot bowls from sliding off. I hate to waste good food that way. But I am more concerned a guest could be hurt or burned quite badly if the hot bowls dropped onto him/her entirely. That or redesign the boards to prevent accidents. Something to think about.

What a wonderful place for breakfast. Nestled in the vineyards in a historical setting. Great place to eat. There are also lots of walks and trails in the surroundings.

Amazing place full of history, one of the best South African wines matched with lots of delicacies

A family friendly space! Great food. Perfect for birthdays and celebrations especially in the summer. Lots of grass for little ones to run around. Then you can take a walk after a delicious meal and enjoy the great views.

A beautiful setting in the Groot Constantia wine farm. We had dinner. It is our summer but it was a chilly evening and they had the fire going which was great. Food was excellent. Great service. Mussel starter was delicious. I enjoyed the pork belly. The sirloin was so good. All the dishes were good and the portion sizes generous. Highly recommended.

Had a great time there. The wine and food was amazing. Great quality, tasted delicious and plated nicely. Felt so welcome there. Special shout out to our waitress Moira who helped make the visit such an awesome experience.

Beautiful place for us to have lunch and take out our two dogs with us. It is a dog friendly place. Beautiful views and relaxing atmosphere. It also seems to be a place that children enjoy with lots of lawn space to play and run around. Dogs have to be on leash. Also very good wine to taste and buyđŸ·

Great for an afternoon sipping champs and sharing a mezze platter!

We had a delightful lunch here. They have an array of delicious options with traditional dishes and unique takes present. Everything we had was really good- no complaints from us!! And the scenery is so charming, it’s hard not to love this place. What a beautiful setting, good food and wine, and kind servers. Very memorable visit and we hope to return again :)

Beautiful historical setting, under 300 year old trees offering a dappled shade to enjoy wholesome food, delicious wine and attentive service! The whole experience was very enjoyable! Visit the original homestead afterwards, also beautiful and with so much history.

I held my birthday here and I cannot praise Melody and the amazing service team enough. The fact that the food was so amazing that every guest couldn't stop speaking about it, capped off a wonderful experience. The attention to detail, seamless handling of a big group and personal attention is not something I've experienced anywhere else. You'd be missing an opportunity for a dining experience if you don't go to Jonkershuis

This restaurant really is a gem inside Groot Constantia winery estate ! We had amazing authentic south african food with a great scenery and wonderful flavors ! Our favorite dish was clearly the bobotie :-) if you want to make sure to taste everything, i’d highly recommend to order the Tasting Plate which includes curries, papadum, rice, bobotie and samosas :-) Enjoy !

This is by far the most favourite place that we come to every year! It s setting alone is quite stunning and then as you drive up to the beautiful old buidings the gardens and restaurant with endless vines and the working farm great you! This place is what I call a real wine farma pleasure to visit at all times. The reataurant is a delight great food and service breakfast lunch or dinner it never lets you down inside or outside old world charm excellent service and great food make it a winning combination. I do not usually like places where coaches arrive every half hour or so but its such a vast terrain that there is room for everyone and of course there is the wine tasting at the bottom of the drive. No visit would be complete without a visit to this stunning building full of art and wines to taste. In all it gets 5 stars for being one of the best experiences in the Cape!

Excellent service. Beautiful setting. Have recently started running in Groot Constantia as of Monday. Decided to refresh after our run. We were welcomed. We had our dog with us. He was welcomed too. Without asking, the friendly staff brought him a bowl of water (which I even offered to pay for due to our water crisis) and once again tonight, (We last ran there on Monday) they even remembered us, and once again water bowl was down before we even asked. Sadly we could not stay for dinner, but our eyes drooled over the menu. Definitely will be back for dinner. Often places that cater for tourists, the staff are sullen and indifferent. Not so with Jonkershuis. Attentive staff, excellent service and from chatting to a few people there, the food is great too. A great venue. Highly recommended!

Wow is all I can say!!! I had such a lovely experience at breakfast. Not only was the food absolutely delish but the service was incredible. Our coffee was hot when it arrived which is so rare now days and my eggs were done perfectly which is a make or break for me!!! It was pouring outside and we were welcomed to a quaint table for 2 right near the warm fire place. Such a lovely family atmosphere but with an elegant vineyard touch. Can't wait to come back ïżœïżœïżœïżœ

Such a lovely setting... the potential to be great, but marred by poor service and food. This afternoon I visited the restaurant as part of a biggish party. To start off with, the waitron didn’t know the offering, she had to constantly go and check. Sweet, but not properly trained. Food took 1.5hrs! For a pretty easy menu (it’s limited to a few dishes [which many I’m sure are pre-prepped], not intricate fine dining dishes) - the wait was unreasonable. My partner had the hake and chips. Like me, she eats her food separately. She ate the chips. They were nice. She took a bite of the hake, it was less so. She took another bite, to make sure she wasn’t imagining things, of which she gave me half. It was not nice. The soda was overbearing, so much so that you could feel it fizzing once digested. We are not people who generally send things back, unless we really feel it necessary. We called over the more senior waitron who was assisting the other table, as she was the only waitron there, and explained to her that we don’t usually do this, but the fish is not sitting well. Her response was: “I’m so sorry ma’am, can we exchange it for another dish for you?” - to which my partner asked for the risotto starter (she didn’t need another main, as she had already had the chips). Skip to when the bill comes, we’ve been charged for both. Now, had we ordered both, that would be fine. But the way the waitron suggested an exchange, we thought we couldn’t be the only people who complained about the fish - so clearly she’s insinuating we substitute the order with something else (otherwise why would she say “can we exchange it for a different dish for you?”).... We query with our sweet, untrained waitron, who says she will check with the more senior one. The next thing we know, the more senior one walks passed and says in a very abrupt and inappropriately rude way “You must pay for both. You ate the chips and half the fish and you ate the risotto - so you have to pay for both!!” Now it’s not a matter of a money... but a matter of experience. The service was slow, the food wasn’t great, and now the waitron wants to be rude, after we had been really nice? Needless to say, I paid for both and got the hell out of there as soon as we could. I even used Zapper, because it was quicker and we wouldn’t have to deal with the staff of this restaurant again. I believe other people at our table had similar issues and received rudeness from the manager on duty, so clearly this is something that has trickled down from the top. My advice to anyone thinking of visiting this restaurant is don’t! There are some other lovely restaurants at Groot Constantia and surrounds, where you actually will get the level of service and food that you expect.

I love Groote Constantia and have been visiting since I was a child and regularly meet friends at Jonkershuis for coffee , breakfast or lunch. However the prices have gone up so much over the last year or two that it is fast exceeding my budget limits. I LOVE scones and Jonkershuis now make them much too large and charge excessively. I would much rather have smaller scone and pay less or two.small scones which friends could share as they serve at High Tea. Two scones and two drinks added up to R130 with tip!!!! R65 each.....By comparison, yesterday I had two hot drinks, two pancakes and delicious small scone with jam, cream AND cheese at coffee shop with beautiful sea view in Strand. Total bill R42 to which I.added a R8 tip bringing it to just R25 each.

The food was not great at all. Disappointing as the venue is great. Wouldn't recommend The Club Sandwich at all, it was horrendous however, the hollandaise sauce was delicious. Service wasn't good. Won't go back.
Joan Boshoff
We had a fabulous breakfast at Jonkershuis. The menu had all the favourites but also some "different " options. I don't like eggs so was delighted with the Blt option. The waiters were excellent and the setting and scenery were amazing. Will definitely go again

Just an amazing place ! Super lovely abs friendly staff. Accommodating kitchen. Amazing views ! Highly recommended.

Incredible service from Jonkershuis! I referred two guests there who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary yesterday. Prior to their arrival I asked Jonkershuis if the waiter could perhaps congratulate them and maybe have something written on their dessert plate - Jonkershuis took this a step further and gave them complimentary bubbles! INCREDIBLE SERVICE and one very very happy couple! Thank you soo much for going the extra mile - it is greatly appreciated! xxx

Really lovely setting. Service very good, meal great. Loved sitting outside given the weather was so good. Would definitely recommend to local and international guests.

Great food! Awesome atmosphere... would reccommend anyone to experience the food especially... good wine too

Samantha VanSlyke
The food was amazing! Beautiful place and delicious wine.

We had an awesome lunch! We had the mussel starter to share; Cape Malay Tasting Plate and Lamb Shank special as mains and then we shared the Chocolate Nemesis for dessert. All well worth it! My husband cannot wait to go back again, as the atmosphere and service was incredible as well.
Denise Alterskye
Very disappointed. Over priced, small portions become overrated! Was always a favourite Winter venue. Wont be going back!

A short summary of a lovely day out recently and meal here..

Food:
To start, the fresh tuna salad:
cos, Avocado, fennel, dill, pickled cucumber, sprouts, olives, fresh citrus, vinaigrette.
Tasty, fresh and healthy..

Then it was onto some Cape Malay for mains..
For me, it is impossible to come to the Cape and not sample some proudly South African Cape Malay food..
As such, I chose the recommended Estate Tasting Plate showcasing bobotie, chicken & lamb curry, samosas, savoury rice, poppadums, and squash.
This dish really is all about local spices and flavours, and is served with traditional sambals. Delicious!

Full review to follow..
Caitlin Smitsdorff
Beautiful scenery, ordered beef burgers and they were delicious!
Really worth the price (considering the prices of most burgers these days, even fast food).
The beef patty's were cooked to perfection and tasted like really good handmade patty's.
The staff were not too helpful in the beginning but nothing too bad considering they might have been quite busy, and when we were tended to it was a very pleasant and friendly interaction.

Took some American friends to lunch here and while the venue was indeed lovey the rickety table was irritating from the very start.

Sirloin was cold on the inside and rather flavourless without the accompanying sauce, but the thick cut chips were amazing. The average franchise steak house does better, dare I say even possibly the Spur.

Pork neck was similarly tasteless and only worth a bite when covered by the very little bit of sauce. So much so my wife didn’t even eat half of it and I didn’t even bother finishing the portion as I normally would.

Panna Cotta was fine but I have a sneaky suspicion it’s factory made and not at the restaurant.

All in all very expensive for what is ultimately quite average and the venue doesn’t really make up for it.
Sarah Herrington
Had a lovely Sunday lunch here at Jonkershuis. Great food and wine list, as well as lovely service.

First time visit. The setting is really beautiful and there are quite a number of tables especially outside. We sat inside but were shifted around quite a bit as many tables booked for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We just ordered a mains course as quite pricey but I have to say food was really average. We ordered pasta and a salad. The chicken salad is really expensive for what it is and not very tastefully served. A little old fashioned with chunks of chicken and really boring lettuce, Salad dressing not good. The spaghetti should be linguine and the portion really small. The cappuccino is much to be desired with the milk tasting like long life milk. All in all a really nice experience because of the venue and very friendly staff but food much to be desired.

I decided to give my mom an early mothers day gift by taking her to breakfast at Jonkerhuis. What a wonderful morning. The Waitrons were friendly and efficient. Our breakfasts were delicious, beautifully presented and certainly more than enough to please our empty tummies😁

The food and wine here is really good. I had a sirloin steak which was done perfectly. I'm a fan of sweet drinks so I had the Groot Constatia Grand Constance. If you enjoy sweet wines, this one is honey sweet. I really enjoed it. The atmosphere is nice as there's huge trees around, unfortunately you don't get the view of the vineyeard from here. An overall good lunch. I won't go out of my way to visit again, but if you do visit Groot Constantia and you're hungry it's a nice spot.

This is my favourite place to have Pork Belly. It's really beautiful! I can't fault that dish. Scenery outside speaks for itself. My only critique would be the staff. Service is slow and often have to call someone to assist us
Kimberly Pringle
Best cheese and charcuterie board iv had in Cape Town. It's a must! You can combine a single meat and single cheese platter to make a perfect board for two.

Decided to cash in my entertainer voucher here and boy was I super happy!

We ordered wine from the estate, duh - and went straight into mains. Our choices were the ribeye served with béarnaise sauce, rainbow baby carrots and fried potato cubes as well as the kudu fillet served with oriental mushrooms, croquettes, rainbow baby carrots laid on top of pumpkin (or butternut) mash.

Although the steak was good, the kudu fillet was out of this world! Everything on the kudu plate just worked so well together. I got such food envy! Would highly recommend this dish. Was somewhat disappointed that my steak was drenched in the bĂ©arnaise sauce - would’ve preferred this to be brought out separately so that I could use as per my taste. But the bĂ©arnaise was made amazingly well!

Lucky enough to find a table outside to admire the views of the vineyard and False Bay in the distance. The venue is just sublime on a summers day.

Will definitely return.

I ordered the vegetarian Malay curry. The taste reminded me of aeroplane asian food which is why I didn't enjoy it. Being a vegetarian, this was far from the tastiest meal I have eaten. However, my partner thought different & enjoyed both our meals. The presentation is wonderful & staff are friendly. We enjoyed the walk & wine tasting at the wine farm too. So overall it's a great experience.

Went to jonkershuis with my daughter today. Awesome just cos I was with her... But ok, lemme get to the place.. Called on the last minute and luckily they had a lunch space open for us in the Court yard. She had the vegetarian curry, I had carpaccio and beef samoosas... And wine. Pretty nice. Maybe cos the company was awesome but yes, the food was good too.. And omw the VIEW!! How awesome a place to have on my flippen doorstep!! Yay! A definite "do again". A day ro remember. Thanks, jonkershuis! Happy capetonian. Xx

Wonderful setting with old charm. Very busy for breakfast. Food was lovely, fresh scones, mushroom and pouched egg. Preserve’s highlight def marmalade! Coffee the only let down , cold upon arrival.

Really enjoy Jonkershuis for breakfast, great poached eggs, tasty hollandaise sauce, good coffee and a view that would be hard to beat anywhere in the world

We celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary today at this beautiful estate. Starting off sharing the Angry Beef Samoosas, fresh and crispy served with delicious curried pineapple. For mains hubby had the roast lamb with cauliflower, glazed carrots and roast potatoes. A good helping for a grown man and absolutely delicious. I had the Chicken Curry which was sweet, filling and served with sambal, rotis, rice and a poppadum. There's always space for dessert, and we both had the cinnamon milk tart which was simply delicious. Service was fantastic and speedy. Great Value for Money. Highly recommended.

Entering Groot Constantia is like entering in a movie.. the scenery, the atmosphere, everything is perfect! One of the restaurant within the Estate, Jonkershuis, was our dining choice. The food selection is good and you are willing to pay that little extra as a premium to be in such a scenic place. The food quality and dish presentations were very good and it was combined with an excellent selection of wines. I would have given this outlet a very high score but unfortunately the service was bad. The waiters seemed uninterested in looking after us and nobody came to ensure our food was good. And even when the dishes were served at the table, no words were spoken. I didn’t feel the service was attentive and up to the restaurant’s level. I suggest the owners to look into this point to ensure having returning customers.

Beautiful surroundings and lovely food! We had the Karoo lamb Cape Malay curry and kudu venison for mains and both were very tasty!
Malva pudding and the dessert plate to finish and again didn’t disappoint! They also had a highchair for our 11 month old which was great as not many restaurants in Cape Town seem to cater for babies these days! We’d definitely go back! Well worth the money!

One of my favorite "nature" restaurants, in the middle of a huge plot is Jonkerhuis where my dogs just LOVE to run around! We had the malay curry dishes and salads, it was divine!
Lisa Van Der Poel
Big ups to our waitress Kaylee (not sure if that’s the correct spelling) super friendly and attentive, second time she served us.

They managed to twist the specials board for my mom who prefers her kingklip fried instead of grilled - big ups to management for making this happen

Cocktails are stunning considering it’s a wine estate. Good food and views as well. Dessert was to die for, would highly recommend the malva pudding.

PS - they’re on the entertainer app too which is a bonus!
Umai
Upon arrival ,we were shown a table by a patron whom didn’t seem too pleased to assist us.Whilst receiving a warm greeting from our waitress we then placed our orders. The food took very long to be pushed out so I expected fresh ,’melt in your mouth ‘ ravioli and a hearty vegetarian curry. Unfortunately the food received lacked flavor and the integrity of the ingredients were lost. The vegetarian ravioli didn’t taste fresh and the sauce tasted like canned tomato, the taste of disappointment lingered in my mouth .I then ordered a vegetarian curry in pursuit of something delicious but again the curry wasn’t hearty ,it lacked flavor and depth. The only tasty dish I had was the beetroot starter served with cheese .Not sure if I’ll ever return back there ,ever.
Amaryllis
Underwhelming breakfast. Requested deviation from menu to accommodate food allergy and was served a child’s portion with a side of sarcasm. Others at our table with standard breakfast orders found the food average to poor. It was the attitude of the manager that I found completely off putting, however. Don’t work in hospitality if you have a sarcasm problem. Will not be back.
Matlhodi Mashamba
I’ll put this on record, I had the best cheesecake ever. My family enjoyed their meals. I had a kingklip, hubby had the rib eye and the kids each had pork belly. Everyone had yum moments. It’s my second time here and the service remains consistent
Nicole Vrede
Jonkershuis has really improved over the last few years - really beautiful outdoor area to sit under the trees enjoying a glass of wine!

The food was good, not the most outstanding meal for the price but really enjoyable. It’s really worth it with the entertainer.

The waiters were efficient considering how full the restaurant was.

Overall a good experience.

Supervundu
Jonkershuis is a winner for Sunday breakfast or lunch. Great for extended family birthday parties and the grass is rad for lighties. The babotie and malva are legends to be enjoyed together. The breakfast options are quality too. Good service. A little pricey, but it's a worthy tax when you consider the view and location.
Peter
I just want to thank the Chef. Our meal was made with the best quality food and honestly one of the best meals I have had in a very long time.
Natalie
Popped in for a late breakfast. Really enjoyed the "out of the city" feel that the farm had. So much outdoor space to enjoy.
The restaurant itself was really well decorated inside and has a warm feel. The staff were welcoming when we arrived and the service throughout the meal was good.
The food itself was also really tasty. There wasn't a whole lot to pick off of the breakfast menu - but enough that you had some choices.
Food was well presented and couldn't fault it in any way.
Definitely a spot I will be back too
Bebz H
Service very good. Location stunning (Beautiful views of Constantia vineyards and mountains). Food excellent. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. No complaints about Jonkershuis! Dog friendly :-)

Came here during the red bus wine route estate hop. Had a lovely lunch with a group of friends. Wine on the side of course. The indoor courtyard area is a good spot to enjoy your meal and escape the cold breeze.
Charné
We had a great family lunch here (and luckily for us it was on the Entertainer app. We hoped to sit by the fire but we didn't book far enough in advance, so we ended up in the courtyard. Fortunately it was still warm and cosy.
Food: solid 4 stars for all the dishes except for the mushroom pasta which was unfortunately pretty bland. Most of our table chose the Babotie and loved it. I tried the pear salad which was really delicious too, and several of the other salads looked like good combinations
Service: the service was good. Not particularly attentive or friendly, but still good. The food came fairly quickly.
Ambiance: the inside rooms are right by the fire and there is plenty of outdoor seating for summer. It was packed the whole time we were there.
We enjoyed the wine tasting before we came for dinner (Although we found the chocolate pairing extremely over-priced for very average chocolates and wouldn't recommend it- rather take the plain tasting). You can also walk around the museums, or through the vineyards. The farm is really beautiful and historic and worth spending some extra time at.

This place is really beautiful when you sit outside and nice elegant feel on the inside plus the food is absolutely amazing I really like the corn scrambled eggs and order some extra sourdough on the side. The service is good overall just a really classy joint with amazing food and elegant views
Ruan De Goede
Perfect place to go to for lunch on a sunny day, what a beautiful view.
I had the soda battered hake fillet was really yummy and the service was good.
Johan Mocke
Well organized staff, well prepared food, good atmosphere, and lovely cheese cake! A restaurant that always tries their best to impress. Good old Cape history are part of the package.
Gabriel Stein
Food was super good, awesome menu, great staff.

Loved the portion sizes! Super worth the money! And its just awesome to spend the day around such beautiful scenery.
Gerkinbi
Absolutely beautiful! Service is great, food is excellent, I tried the Vegetable curry which is delicious and I would recommend it to any vegan or vegetarian! I'll definitely have the Bobotie next time, can't wait to come back!
Zelm
A real treat. Food was excellent, particularly the bobotie and the Karoo lamb curry. Service is also top drawer. We will be back very soon. If I weren't so full I'd try something else on the menu!
Viljoen De Kock
Set in one of the most beautiful wine farms and one of the oldest wine farms in Cape Town.
We went for lunch, and had a very satisfying leg of lamb and vegetables. Tasted like Grandma`s Sunday Lunches.
You have to book if you want to sit outside under the old oak trees. But the have space inside if you did not book. Nice wine selection
Pusm
Tradition, high quality, and friendly. All of this in a very nice old wine farm just next to an interesting cape dutch house. I love spending lunches here , especially with friends from overseas that are interested in trying quality cape malay classic food. Their wines selection is good also, not surprising since they are inside one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa.

Q: shall we go for a glass of wine at Jonkershuis before dinner?
A: yes we shall! (Or as the missus puts it, Why the hell not?)

Justifications:
Awesome views
Beautiful spot under the trees
We could hear ourselves think
Groot Constantia makes great wine
Friendly staff
DBMadventures
Jonkershuis, located on the Groot Constantia Estate, Cape Town South Africa have three different seating locations. You can either be seated outside overlooking the vineyards; this was a beautiful view. The day I visited it was a bit windy and moved inside. They also have a beautiful courtyard with people talking and enjoying their breakfast.

The atmosphere throughout the entire restaurant was very relaxed, that with their vintage décor added some nostalgia to the experience, taking me back to a time when I was just a young girl, having a Sunday dinner at my grandparent's house. Their staff throughout the service was very professional and friendly.

I enjoyed their coffee, accompanied with a rusk. The menu had a few good breakfast options, but I decided to ask the chef for his recommendation. My breakfast arrived, poached eggs on a toasted sourdough bread with bacon and a fried tomato. As I cut into the eggs, it was over cooked, and the waiter noticed it as well. Personally, I think the over cooked eggs should never have left the kitchen, but I guess even the best of chefs sometimes have an off day. They did replace it quickly and the second time around the eggs was cook perfectly.

As I received the bill, I did notice that they removed the coffee from the bill, as a gesture to make up for breakfast. I appreciated it but did not feel right to have it for free as I was there to review the restaurant.

My overall experience of the place was good, and with a few friends it makes for a great atmosphere, but I am not sure if I would go as far as to say I would make this my weekly breakfast spot.

Jonkershuis is one of my favorite retreats in Cape Town combining the incredible Groot Constantia wine estate with very tasty food.

The restaurant is actually a lot bigger than expected and was absolutely packed when we came through here with some friends. Happily this in no way impacted the good quality, times or service levels. The pork belly was delightfully sticky and the greens fresh with a gentle butter sauce coming through. They were nice enough to specially make us a chicken burger, but as expected it's best to just stick to the menu. Also a big shout out must go to the Karoo lamb curry which was crammed full of flavor. Price wise these guys aren't cheap but when you're at one of the premier wine estates in the country you're not coming here to save money. That being said it wasn't over the top at all.

If possible I would try and sit outside under those beautiful old trees and the incredible view out into the city and mountain backdrop. The service levels were exactly what you would expect from a place like this with the staff there when you needed them and not when you didn't.

Thank you jonkershuis for a great lunch and afternoon!
Adrian Kaplan
Spent a sunny Monday afternoon enjoying the view from Jonkershuis. Loads of tourists around enjoying good food and wine. The service is absolutely top notch as is the food. It was a really hot day so we ordered granadilla slushies which were just right for a blazing day! My wife ordered the char grilled steak and I had the chicken shnitzel which came with green veg, mash and smothered in probably the best mushroom sauce I've ever had. The steak was chared and a bit smoky but so so soft...both meals were winners and absolutely delicious. I can't wait to go back!
Unopa Mazwigwila
This is a must go to place for great malva pudding...I love it for days and Jonkerhuis made so delicious. I had burgers and chips and I must say the burger was scrumptious. I suggest people should try the food here. If you do not want to go you can easily order food on UberEATS.
Leandro Laborinho
Found hair strings in our food twice and in the drink once. Not normal.
The bread they were using for Bruschetta was expired!
The food was not that good and took really long to arrive!

Maybe we are unlucky to visit them in a bad day!
Kerryn Rehse
Booked a large dinner booking with a set menu at Jonkershuis. The setting of this restaurant is breathtaking. A private dining area was set up complete with personalised menues. The service was impeccable. Food phenomenal. A Cape Town must do.
Do try the mussels starter - Mmmm. ..
Jackson L
The beauty of the estate gives the restaurant a great ambience. It's old and graceful and special. The food is good: we had chicken breast, kingklip and salmon salad. All very passable, but not wow. The trio of desserts was yum. And the burrata starter was tasty, but, at close to R200, not super generous.

We also had a very sweet and attentive waitress. Service, however, was not very speedy, with mains taking an age to come. Wine, and the fact that is was a glorious Sunday afternoon, helped the wait.
Elle Mbadaliga
I really love outside seating where you enjoy the beautiful weather and the big trees. The tables and chairs are outdoor furniture with cushions to keep you comfortable.

I wanted a quick meal before heading for the wine tasting. Told the waitress I was in a bit of a hurry as the wine tour was closing soon. I didn't even wait 10mins for my food. The waitress explained some of their lovely dishes.

I had the crimbled chicken breast with mash, veggies and mushroom sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a meal I'd like to recreate at home. The prices were reasonable. I expected steep prices as it's in a wine estate.

We could not get a booking for the Saturday or Sunday lunch. Booking at least a week in advance required. But we did get a table on a Monday. The restaurant has a very good reputation and we were definitely not disappointed. Very tasty food, lovely entourage with tables in the garden. Very good. Not cheap though so be prepared

A definite must for any tourist (and local), to eat at the original home at 500 year old Groot Constantia is such a treat, the museum is next door (closes at 5 pm) but there are old ox wagons and horse carts from the time on display and the history and magnificent setting is too beautiful for words.

Known for its curry, the food is great. Love the big generous cut French fries and our kids enjoyed their chicken and beef burgers. I loved the chicken curry, my hubby didnt think his lamb curry was great or worth the price, he however agrees the setting can't be beaten and it's a great experience all the same.

After our wine tasting wife and I popped in here for lunch as it's on the Groot Constantia estate. I ordered the Burger with added bacon and mature cheddar. Wife had the starter portion of mussels x 2 kinda making it a main. My burger was really good, perfectly cooked and char grilled. Her mussels were amazing... Not your usual mussels in white wine and cream sauce but this one was in a mango atchar curry sauce. Really different and delicious. I'd definitely return again to try more of their dishes.

Service was really excellent. Also I'd like to add a huge plus is that they have a baby changing station in the men's bathroom. I get highly irritated with establishments that only have changing facilities in the ladies room. I've been in that situation a few times before with my one year old.

Sundays are for spoils, and what a spoil our little trip to Jonkershuis was last weekend!
Phoned in that morning and we were accommodated at one of the lovely tables outside. We absolutely couldn't resist the specials for the day - pork belly with sweet potato mash and a perfectly cooked rump steak smothered in mushroom sauce with veg and roast baby potatoes. Honestly couldn't fault either dish - generous portion size, served hot, well cooked and beautifully seasoned.
We topped off our Sunday Lunch with none other than the South African classic, Malva Pudding - what a treat! You will notice there is no picture because "ain't nobody got time for that" when a steaming hot, juicy malva is staring at you and your boyfriend is already getting stuck in!
Service was great and atmosphere hard to beat. Definitely worth a visit or 3!
Thanks to Entertainer SA for allowing us this beautiful dining experience :)

The view alone is worth a 4 and then the food arrived to lift the rating.
We went for variety JoJo had the cold meats platter and I had the curry tasting plate with a baby beetroot salad, if the chicken curry wasn't a bit watered down I would have given Jonkershuis a 5 out of 5 but alas all the food looked and tasted amazing but was just short of perfect.
Best place to come and relax and enjoy good food.

Here, the food is secondary to the location. For breakfast, Avo smash was good. Eggs Benedict Florentine was fine. My French toast was boring and its presentation below average. Service was attentive but when I asked if I could swap the poached egg for a giant brown mushroom I was told I could only get the usual sliced. But later in the day, sitting at an outside table, False Bay in the distance, lunch a shared cheese platter, feeling pleasantly tipsy on pink blanc de noir, my usual nitpicky criticisms dissolve.

✔ Beautiful location to sit outside under the trees or inside in the warmth
✔ Friendly service with a smile
✖ Awful coffee 😭
✔ Eggs Provençal was really tasty
✔ Avo Smash was great
Had breakfast with my parents and hubby at Jonkershuis. I have yet to have an eggs benedict to match and my dad's breakfast burger was amazing. The pattie was juicy and had the most incredible flavour. We also had a scone to share which was a disaster because we all wanted more. The best scene I have ever had. Our waiter was friendly but not over the top, he was professional and he performed with ease. The only fault I can possibly find was that the tables are a little small for four people and I felt like I was a little cramped at times, the waited did however ensure that the table was cleared of all unnecessary items. The service is fantastic and overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Jonkershuis Restaurant & the estate with everything else it has to offer, is a must for every nature lover who wish to dine in & with nature...a must.

Food was amazing. Ordered the Cape Malay Tasting Plate: Bobotie, Lamb and chicken curry. Substantial meal and no starter necessary. Lamb curry was succulent. Service very good

What a treat!

My boyfriend and I came here on a sunny late afternoon and everything about this restaurant is fantastic! We got to pick our seating and decided on the courtyard. The vibe was so pleasant and the rustic decor with beautiful floral arrangements made the whole place feel even more elegant

The menu wasn't too extensive but all the options sounded so good! My boyfriend and I (self proclaimed lovers of curries) both ordered the Cape Malay feast because we wanted to sample everything on the menu.

What a treat!!

There were three meat dishes: Karoo Lamb, Chicken curry and a mince bobotie served with yellow rice, a samoosa, and butternut with a fresh poppadum as well as sambals consisting of salsa, chutney and atchaar

Our waiter was extremely attentive and warm and even gave my boyfriend some advice on a suitable wine for his dish and his palette. He went through the menu of the day with meticulous attention to detail and also described the various parts of our dishes to us when it arrived. The wine was served in carafes and our waiter kept topping our glasses up when he saw that it was needed (again, so attentive!). There was an Italian tour group seated next to us and with every course they were served my mouth was watering too! If we weren't so full we would have definitely indulged in some dessert and some wonderfully smelling fresh coffee!

I was thoroughly impressed by this quaint and charming venue and was even planning a make believe wedding in my head while enjoying my wine (don't tell my boyfriend haha)

Already planning to come back here with my mom and sisters and explore the rest of the menu!
Linda
What a beautiful restaurant. We had a lovely lunch and everyone was very happy with their meal choices. The food was good, the service was great and the ambience in the restaurant made for a very relaxing & warm feel. The soups were a definite won in the cold Cape Town weather and so were the burgers. The pasta was very sweet but full of flavor and so was the salad. Prices are very reasonable.

Breakfast done right. I am going to mention the setting once - it's gorgeous, perfect location overlooking the wine farm from on high. An old estate house or barn turned into a great restaurant. They do breakfast dishes well. Turning simple ingredients into a wholesome tasty breakfast. I had the Club sandwich and it was superb. Oh And the plunger coffee is tops

Lovely views and venue with great food. Would definitely recommend it. Service also very good from our attentive waiter. Food was fresh and plating attractive.

Jonkershuis is surrounded by beautiful scenery. The outside seating is surrounded by green grass and tall trees. Service here from start to finish was excellent. Very professional and friendly. For the main meal I had fresh kingklip which was well prepared and a perfect portion size. The desserts were delicious. Everyone loved the day out. Definitely a great afternoon out

Although this restaurant is a bit pricey and touristy, set in the grounds of Groot Constantia, the food is world class!
The service is excellent and you can't ask for a more beautiful view of the Constantia Valley. Lovely family destination as there is a green strip for the kids and dogs!
Julia Louise Domanski
Jonkershuis is definitely one of the most beautifully situated restaurants I've ever been to. Nestled amongst the vines and close to the grand main house, it is housed inside a beautiful Cape Dutch style building and is warm and inviting inside. We sat near the fire which was perfect for a chilly afternoon, but the outdoor area would be lovely in the summer time.
The service, while a bit erratic (we didn't have one waiter but rather the assistance of 4 or 5 different staff members), was very friendly and accommodating.
Our food did take about 40 minutes to arrive but we weren't in a rush so it was fine.
When it did arrive, the food was tasty and the portions generous but it didn't "wow" us. I'd liken it to homely country cooking. My bobtie was a nice change from the ordinary and my friend's steak was pleasant but a bit tough. The Cape Malay chicken curry was also nice but nothing really special.
Overall I'd say this is a lovely place to come just to bask in the gorgeous setting and to eat a simple and homely lunch.
Jessica Stromin
Came here for Fathers Day breakfast. It is a very cute restaurant, with a divine farmhouse feel. It's perfect for winter when you want to be cosy and warm next to a roaring fire. We unfortunately had to sit outside in the courtyard which was pretty chilly, so definitely book inside if you can.

The service was friendly, just a little slow. The coffee was great, and nice and foamy. Most of us ordered the eggs benedict which was delicious. The only complaint came from the men at the table who said the portions were a bit small.
Sumendra Chetty
Jonkerhuis is situated at the beautiful Groot Constantia. Fantastic beautiful restaurant that looks very grandiose with a rustic homely menu. The views are heavenly! We went as a group and had the cheese board- delicious with some bubbly. Definitely a go to venue!!!

my wife and I visited yesterday for Sunday lunch and we made use of our entertainer app. Oh my G-d, we both had the malay lamb curry and it was out of this world!! served with sambals a small rotie and a papapdum.....simply delicious and at R158 not bad value at all. It made me realise why i prefer malay curry to indian.....more flavour without the burn. The rest of the menu looked interesting as well and together with the perfect surroundings very suitable if you have kids, this restaurant is highly reccommended.

What an amazing, quaint restaurant, perfect for an autumn breakfast! Between us, we ordered The Salmon trout(with scrambled eggs) on sourdough, the chargrilled bacon and egg croissant and the Groot constantia. All looked and tasted like a true farm breakfast. We happened to be served by a waitress that was doing her third shift, yet knew the menu fairly well and was attentive. The prices may seem a bit steep just by looking at the menu, but the portions and taste truly make up for it.

It really seems to be quite a popular stop for both tourists( judging by the surrounding accents) and locals. See you again, very soon!
Teresa Ulyate
Beautiful setting with lots of space for the children to run around. Instead of getting a cooked breakfast as we usually do we tried the sugar-free granola (delicious!) and the scrambled egg croissants which were big, tasty, and beautifully presented.

It was absolutely packed so be sure to book, particularly if you'd like an outside table.
Coral Le Roux
Hand me a breath mint...the garlic. So much garlic. Let me start by saying that the place is homely, and we found the food to be too. We started with the curry platter to share. Very average and my husband remarked that I make better Bobotie (yay me). The hightlight was the angry samoosa. I then had the pork which was tender and well prepared, if a little bland, but the whole dish was overpowered with the garlic that was VERY generously dolloped on the crisp green beans. What a pity.
Selloane
Having heard so much about the place I was so eager to try it. I am sooo disappointed in both the service and the food. The lamb curry and the pork belly were so average I mean you could get better at a take away place, don't try get the waitress to smile it's like pulling teeth. Would not recommended it at all.
Darren
Service was good. Ambience was great. Food was terrible. They recommended pork belly - I wish they hadn't. It was burnt, the sauce was disgusting, potatoes bland and truly unfinishable. The baked cheesecake was fridge cheesecake. Again an unfortunate recommendation. Bottom line is great venue but terrible food..I would advise against it.

No.

This was on my top5 'to dine at' list. Well, it's been duly scratched off. We must be careful not to over inflate a restaurant's value and excellence, especially when said restaurant is located on the most beautiful vineyard ever.

So let me just get right into it.

I had a breakfast. They don't do fried eggs, only scrambled. The eggs were wet and it honestly looked like a miscarriage of sorts. Really, I could have sucked it up with a straw.

The music was hideous. There were ambulance sirens in it and the damn CD or whatever it was, was on repeat. This did absolutely nothing for the ambience. Pretty sure I heard cop sirens too. This made me feel agitated, especially since I have a couple of unpaid speeding fines out.

There were dirty light switches everywhere and the decor is non existent. Some rickety old chairs that are so warped, it should be deemed a hazard.
Also, let me not harp on about the dusty, faded old carpet that they seem to treat as a shrine. If you're unfortunate enough to get a seat near the hanging carpet, be sure to pack some Sinucons. You're going to end up popping 3 pills.

Overall, a very snooty, overly conservative establishment - truly a horrid little eatery. It can only do well with the elderly.

To think I drove 42km from home just to experience this.

Again, NO!

Definitely worth a visit ! Couldn't fault the food ,they have a great breakfast menu. Good service and located in the beautiful Groot Constantia.

Been here for breakfast a few times and always had a nice time. I enjoyed the eggs florentine very much. Service was good and there's great views, although there are quite a few flies around, but it's understandable being on a wine farm.
Magda Oosthuysen
We went to this restaurant for breakfast. The weather was a bit windy and cold so we had to settle for inside vs having breakfast under the ons trees with a wonderful view - such a pity. The inside had two areas - the main restaurant and the quartyard - both with great potential. I would however caution against the quartyard if you are concerned about noise and there are lots of kid parties like there was on the day we came for breakfast. The quartyard got very noisy and this made conversation difficult- the food more than made up for the noise.i had the Eggs Benedict- put in a ciabatta bread and with an amazing hollandaise sauce. Just really yummy - and I will have to come back to try some of the other amazing dishes. So overall great food, stunning venue, be careful of the quartyard.
Kasey
It was windy and a bit chilky so we sat inside. We were seated in the first inside area which is a bit of a thoroughfare and was very drafty. Myself and my girlfriend both ordered the sirloin with mushroom and pepper sauce respectively. Her steak with the pepper sauce tasted and smelt like manure. They took it away and I eventually asked for an answer as to what it was after tasting it and now feeling sick. The manager eventually came to us and told us the steak was 'over aged'. I refused to believe this and we thought maybe a disgruntled employee had taken action on the sauce. We left without paying and without feeling like much sympathy or concern was shown with lack of responsibility being shown. We now both feel ill at the thought of what we ate. Wont be back in a hurry.

This was my third visit to the Jonkershuis, and I will most probably return on a few more occasions in future. The Jonkershuis is set on the Groot Constantia estate, the oldest wine producing estate in South Africa, just to the right of the imposing manor house. The thick walls, sash windows, gleaming wooden ceilings, rickety old chairs, and brass chandeliers, all come together to provide the perfect setting for a dining experience fit for any occasion, be it a family celebration, romantic dinner, or business lunch.

The staff is very friendly, and the service was relatively quick.

The Jonkershuis must be one of the best restaurants to experience authentic Cape Malay cuisine, offering a variety of curries, as well as bobotie and samosas with accompaniments such as chutney and sambals. The Estate Tasting Plate, which offers a little taste of everything, comes highly recommended.

Definitely worth a visit for tourists and locals alike.

After a 12km hike, we decided that the only place to go for breakfast was junkers Huish! The most amazing scones! My sister and I shared a provance break ! Poached egg, spinach &mushrooms! INCREDIBLE! Had an amazing experience and a fantastic waiter! We will be back!
Sandy
I love this restaurant. Really homely feel especially for a Sunday lunch. The fillet is fantastic, perfectly cooked to specification and delicious! The chocolate nemesis was the perfect way to end the meal.
Lastly, the service was impeccable; the food came quickly and our waiter was observant. Will definitely be visiting soon :)
Meg Maccallum
We were on the City Sightseeing bus tour and stopped off at Groot Constantia for wine tasting. When wandering past Jonkershuis, we decided rather to enjoy a lazy lunch, hiding inside the lovely old Dutch buildings. The restaurant was buzzing and we were quickly served drinks - while limited for those who don't want wine, I enjoyed my Chenin Blanc. We had an array of dishes ordered and I decided to try the Superfood salad - quinoa, beets and a mix of green veg with crispy sweet potato. A yummy mixture that was incredibly generous. Jonkershuis is a great mix of the traditional wine farm restaurant feel while being a spot for a quick lunch in the 'burbs. Being on the oldest wine farm in SA means there's plenty more to do than simply just eat, but the eating is definitely the fun part!

Well now, after spending the day at a pool party in the constantia hills while my better half was at work... I had some serious sucking up to do... A romantic dinner would surely do the trick and we decided on Jonkershuis as it was local and we hadn't been there yet.

On arrival we were met by the most pleasant waitress I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She was very friendly, eager to help and make us as comfortable and satisfied as possible, outstanding!

To start we ordered a bottle of wine and some oysters. What a surprise they were, with a passion fruit (granadilla) relish, wow wow wow, I would never have thought of combining the two, buy oh did it work! 8/10 just found that they could possibly have used a little less as it was just a tad too sweet.

For mains I ordered the lamb steak and Carly ordered the chicken schnitzel, both dishes were fantastic, cooked to perfection with great flavours! My personal favorite being the lamb which for me was a 9/10 only because I wanted more...

Overall a fantastic restaurant with a great setting and the best service I have had to date! (Her name being Zoe) hope I spelt that correctly.

Was originally rated 5, but after second visit and a few disappointments (and Zoe no longer working there) it is now a 4/5

Enjoy!

Carly Pols

We popped in for a table of 10 without pre booking. The staff were very accommodating and helped us. Once we ordered the food came out promptly and was good. Most of us had burgers and chips. The cheesecake dessert with slightly dry but overall good.

Once again an outstanding meal! Started with a deliciously crisp and well dressed Caesar salad - a favourite of mine. We each had a Cape Malay Plate consisting of butter soft Butter Chicken, melt-in-the-mouth Beef Curry, unequivocally the best Bobotie in SA served with fragrant yellow rice, samoosa, sambals & popadum. The best item on the menu without a doubt. For dessert we shared a Malay taster plate: Moist & flavourful Malva Pudding with homemade vanilla icecream, Merktert with apricot & raisins, koeksusters. A marvelously magnificent meal!
Andrew Treu
This is a lovely spot for breakfast under the trees on the magnificent Groot Constantia Wine Estate. I enjoyed a very generous portion of ciabatta French toast with bacon and banana. Good service, nice atmosphere and a good breakfast.
David Ensor
Great atmosphere & good food. Service was great - attentive but not over tge top. Food choices fantastic & good value. Going back for sure. Taster plate was the best
Vicky Gross
My new favourite place to have breakfast. The Benedict was divine and the service was also awesome. Waitors were very attentive. A must if you're in Cape Town.

We had an amazing meal at Jonkershuis and I would definitely recommend this restaurant! We sat outside on a lovely summers day and enjoyed some cocktails with our meal. I had a rump steak with bĂšarnaise sauce which was delicious! My mom had the crumbed chicken breast which was also very tasty! We then shared a milk tart for dessert which was good but not as good as the last time we are here! Our waitress was very friendly and the service was very good! Overall it is a very enjoyable experience but it is rather pricey!
Rebecca Dallas
Yoh, Jonkershuis has an expensive menu. It's definitely more of a tourist destination/ celebration restaurant than a casual diner. I like to go there for birthdays/ dates or anything that requires a bit of a celebration. The last time I was there (three weeks ago) I had a delicious burger (I mean, the pic does it justice) which was probably the cheapest item on the mains menu. What I like about Jonkershuis is the stunning view of the Vineyards, and their changing menu - I think it changes every season (although I stand to be corrected). Great service from very professional waitrons!

Situated on the Groot Constantia Wine Estate, you can't expect anything less than beautiful gardens and breathtaking views of the vineyards.

This is my first rating of 5 and I can't give it to a more deserving restaurant. Our food was impeccable, service outstanding and the entire experience so lovely I just want to go back!

I had one of the best mojitos I have ever had - a blend of the classic with strawberry puree and strawberries, if you are a mojito fan, you have to try this one! The Chargrilled butchers cut on this day was a rump which I chose with the porcini and exotic mushroom sauce. It's served with crispy potatoes and seasonal veg - broccoli, snap peas, green beans and baby marrows. Everything on the plate was seasoned to perfection and every bite was thoroughly enjoyed.

Our waiter was an outgoing, funny and friendly guy and his service was with a smile the entire time. Lunch ends with a relaxing walk in the garden. Bliss.

Exquisito!

Jonkershuis is like something out of a painting of the french countryside. The view and setting is stunning! The service we experienced while having breakfast was more than satisfactory.

The menu isn't really as unique as the setting but everything on offer is well made and as fresh as can be. The brioche BLT is a must! The lovely smokey pork flavour will stay with you all day.
Raine Tauber
What an incredible experience, the food, wine, service and ambiance were all amazing. Would recommend to anyone looking for an experience and not just a meal.
There are some restaurant that make you relax and this is one. The sense of space and open vineyards under the mountain is such a pleasure. You can walk up the avenue of oaks and think of the olden dad when life was slower. The restaurant is to the right of the historic groot constantia and it is fittingly historic with period photos and furnishings - an open fire in winter. We had a mid week lunch there with a bottle on their constantia sparkling wine. I had scrambled eggs and smoked trout on rye. Just perfect for brunch. No rush and gentle service attention. If you have time treat yourself to a tour of groot constantia, cast your eyes over the rolling vineyards in perfect order. The first spring shoots were coming out when we were there.
Courtney Alexandra Wallace
Wow. Was here for a 21st and very surprised. Food was absolutely divine - pumpkin soup with coconut cream, zucchini and seed muffin my new favourite. Waiters very attentive. Definitely must-go! Surroundings make it all the more worthwhile too :D

As you sit and look out onto the vineyard with a glass of vino and a karoo lamb curry. This is Defently a way I would love to spend all my sunday afternoons. I would recommend going on a sunny day and getting a table outside were your dog's can run around the huge open area while you enjoy a fantastic meal from starters to dessert:)

Been to Jonkershuis twice in the last fortnight - once for breakfast and once for lunch. The setting is magnificent, and they're worth a visit for this alone. Their service is acceptable and the food is very reasonable - although some dishes are better than others (I've been dreaming of their Chicken Livers starter since I had it). Jonkershuis seems set to become a dependable regular venue and an essential visit in Summer.
Pia-Alexa
By far one of the best locations to have breakfast, regardless of the weather is Groot Constantia, but Jonkershuis eggs Benedict is in my opinion one of the best in CT- perfectly poached eggs served on crunchy ciabatta toast with the velvety hollandaise and crisp bacon. Yum.
Kalay Maistry
Popped into Jonkershuis Restaurant on a recent visit to the Cape, for a quick bite to eat before heading to the airport. The place was very busy and without a reservation we luckily snagged a table in the courtyard in the middle of the restaurant, which brought back happy memories of a family wedding at the venue from earlier in the year.

We were ravenous and a little pressed for time. The weather was a tad on the cold side so when I saw slow cooked lamb shank on the specials menu, well I knew that the venue had kindly made my decision on what to have for lunch, for me😊

And what a treat it was - delicious, homey, honest food!
The shank was the most delicious one I have ever eaten. Tender, aromatic, tasty. With a smooth well made potato mash to wipe up all that yum gravy. All of that washed down with an equally delicious bottle of wine.

Great venue, excellent service and delicious food - we will certainly returnđŸŽđŸ·

I've been to Jonkershuis twice now, and it was a pleasure both times. Although it's situated on the Groot Constantia wine farm, it has an entirely laid-back and easy-going atmosphere, which is perfect for a casual, unpretentious dining experience. The menu offers a range of classic dishes, and the restaurant seems to be a particularly popular option for breakfasts/brunches or teatime visits. The spacious outdoor section and sprawling lawns populated with lovely, large oak trees makes for an ideal family-and child-friendly environment. Jonkershuis is also a wonderful option for special occasions like birthdays or Kitchen Teas. The only area I could critique is the service, which is just a tiny bit on the slow side when things get busy. But, if I lived closer to the area, I'd definitely be a regular customer.
SvN_lovedining
This is such a great venue for those warm sunny winter days. You can enjoy a great meal with beautiful views, before or after you enjoy a wine tasting and cellar tour. They also have a chocolate and wine pairing.

The salad was so good - not just lettuce with some tomatoes etc and the burger was also very good.

In summer when the vineyards are full and green it is also a great scenery for a breakfast/lunch.

Great place for just the 2 of you, or a group of friends and big lawns for kiddies to run around and work of their energy!
Dirk Van Zijl
Good food, very good service, lovely venue, such an amazing wine farm! The table only way to small for two people to enjoy a proper breakfast. Its a pity though as it spoils everything actually! So please get decent tables:-). But will definitely visit again as I really enjoyed the ambiance. And next time maybe a better table:-)
Simone Hasselbach
Been her twice. Once for a picnic and once for breakfast. Both ocassions were pleasant. Had breakfast in the little inside courtyard. Freshly baked scones are a real treat but come early to avoid disappointment as they only bake a certain amount 😉
Rebecca Francis-Pope
Went to Groot Constantia to browse through the museum, and decided to stop off for something to drink. Loved the decor, our waitress was extremely sweet and helpful, and we couldn't resist trying their giant scones (served with sweet strawberry jam and thick cream). Lovely way to spend a chilly Saturday morning!
Ashleigh
After visiting their wine farm a year ago I had to go back to Groot Constantia to try out one of their restaurants. Jonkershuis was definitely an excellent choice. On a freezing cold day snuggled up by the fire indoors it was the perfect setting. Situated inside an old Dutch styled house, it was made even better by their wine choices and food. I would suggest the chicken curry and beef burger. And definitely the beef samosa starters. Their wine is a bit expensive by the glass so I would opt for one of the wines that aren't from Groot constantia that are just as good.
Phillip Black
What a lovely Father's Day lunch, sat next to a cozy warm fire. Service was awesome and the chicken liver starter was cooked to perfection. I washed it down with a Jack Black lager or 3 ;). I had the pork belly dish which was super generous and one of the best I have had in a long time. If you eat of the pig...do it! Too full for dessert but I did finish my nephews sugar ice cream cone. A nice touch was giving all the fathers a little present as they left. Nice thought guys, it's those little things that makes a place great. Will definitely be back...

Yummo breakfast catch up session at Groot Constantia is a must. Everything from the food to the views are an absolute treat. The menu offers a great variety of dishes at affordable prices and the service is on the ball. Friendly, relaxed and comfortable. Order the eggs Benedict, settle in for a few hours and then walk over to the cellar for a bit of wine tasting. Winner morning/afternoon. I am very keen to visit for lunch
particularly to try their cheese and charcuterie boards (with wine, obviously). Also, their salads sound amazing. Mmm, I’ll be back soon :)

Being close to where I live I am a big fan of Jonkershuis. The setting in itself it something special with big gardens to meander around. It is set in an old colonial building which is exquisite. The menu isn't big but the food is magnificent. The salads are great and the wine is delicious.
Glen Hunt
We decided to try Jobkershuis has we were doing a wine tasting. We were lucky to get a table on a busy Father's Day. While the service was good, qui and efficient, the food was a bit of a rollercoaster. After much deciding, I took the pork belly where my wife took The Estate Tasting platter which was 3 curries, sambas, rice and papadums. The tasting plate was flavorful, however the bootie was a little on the dry side. The pork belly was melt in your mouth except the crackling which was rather rubbery and chewy. The dessert was milk tart and malva pudding. Both South African staples. The milk tart was "nice" where the malva pudding was a beautiful moist dessert.
Renaldo
Try and book early a specially over weekends and sit outside. Jonkershuis Restaurant has great food and great service and you get that with a beautiful view of the vineyards. We found a chameleon on a branch and we put it back.
Sean Lloyd
The setting, food and service are all impeccable. Sitting inside during winter with the wood fire sets the perfect mood for relaxed lunches. The staff were friendly, the lamb curry was delicious, and there is no better setting than the grounds of Groot Constantia. End your lunch off by walking around the grounds to see what views are on offer.
Anamika Karamchand
This is one of my favourite breakfast spots. It has a beautiful setting and is perfect in summer and winter. In summer, there's nothing better than dining outside beneath the trees, over looking the vineyards and in winter it has a warm and cosy feel inside near the crackling fire. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. #HiddenGem
Claire Mc Gorian
We had a lovely lunch here this afternoon surrounded by so much beauty - and lots of children too! Great service and tasty food. Highly recommend the prime cut of the day and a stroll through the vineyard before you leave.
Heather Moyo
Beautiful setting. Got a table right next to the fire, it's all nice and toasty. The food is delicious, I ordered the rump steak with green beans and baked potatoes. Medium well. The service is unequalled. Altogether a very nice place to visit and eat at. I don't see why it shouldn't get 5 stars.
Justin Dry
Had a great experience here. Here's a tip ensure you arrive at sunset the view is unsurpassed. Sitting under the oak trees sipping exceptional wine was a relaxing and pleasant experience. Our waiter was great, entertaining and a fantastic sense of humour. The food was very good a fantastic menu I remember having the curry platter which I probably wont forget. I cant wait to go back to Jonkershuis!!

Beautiful venue, lovely food and great service. South African cuisine, fine wines and an incredible view - what more could you want! Highly recommended.

A lovely setting with wonderful views, I thought the wooden mismatched chairs were very cute and the service was very quick and efficient. We had a lovely waitress too. My burger was a bit of a let down though. It wasn't bad by any means, just not really good either. It's well worth it to go for the chocolate and wine pairing though!

Had Sunday lunch under the oak trees with sensational views of False Bay and the Constantia Valley. Unfortunately, the food is not quite as sensational. A starter of spicey mince samoosas, which were light on the mince but tasty nonetheless. The parmesan and basil crusted chicken lacked seasoning , any taste of cheese and slighlty burnt (i would have been disappointed had i concocted this in my own kitchen). The beef burger was the highlight: great piece of meat, evenly cooked and spiced. Yum. All in all a bit up and and down but no question a fantastic place to relax and let the kids run wild.

The cheese cake is to die for! Such a beautiful setting and wonderful friendly service. Delicious fresh fish dishes on the specials board are definitely the way to go.

Two things were quite strange - first, we Restaurant patrons were definitely involved in a wedding. Second, we were definitely involved in ANOTHER wedding! Being uninvited guests aside, Jonkershuis has reasonable food on offer of which the Cape Malay dishes seemed to be the winners. All round good but not enough reason to hurry back.

We had breakfast here....I love breakfast, and theirs is one of the best. The french toast was not only the best i have ever had, but it was a generous portion and little extras were no problem for the kitchen....definitely returning

Currys seem to be the best option. Reasonable food but certainly not outstanding.I prefer to be seated inside especially during winter when they have a nice cosy fire. as opposed to the courtyard which ia rather claustrophobic.

This the most amazing venue, went on a Friday evening and the old building has wonderful features. The welcome was good and service efficient. I had fish cake and my partner had calamari to start and both were acceptable but not outstanding. The lamb curry was fairly bland, more like a strong stew and had little depth of flavour. The babotie was full of flavour but very dry! The chutney we asked for helped to add flavour and moisture but without this the meal was disappointing. A pity for such an iconic venue!

Went for breakfast but had the misfortune of getting a new waitress who was clearly shaken. Our food was not complete when it was delivered causing us to get cold toast which is a big no no in my books! A pity due to the beautiful scenery.

Great outside eating, dog friendly and easy. Good food, with some excellent curries and salads. Desserts are homemade and very special. Around the restaurants are rolling lawns under beautiful oak trees. Great space for kids and adults alike. Also great wine direct from the estate. After lunch a walk through the vineyards is a must!

If you looking for a quaint tucked away gem then this is the right spot. Its a very popular spot so if you looking for a quiet romantic evening then early evening is the right time to arrive. The staff are friendly attentive and engage just enough to make you feel at home. A smooth bottle of 2011 Groot Constantia shiraz was shared and started out what was to be a cosy night infront of a soft warm fire. The malay curry was the evenings choice of traditional cape cuisine. AMAZING the homemade mango coriander chutney was the perfect condiment thar complicated both the lamb and chicken curries. It was a classic capetonian meal that hit the spot. A defiant must vist hide away in the southern suburbs. Will definitely be back.
