Review La Colombe - Constantia

Ranvir Sawak
I went in on Saturday for a special occasion. A reservation is essential. The restaurant is nestled in the mountains of Constantia's Nek. The road is paved so relatively easier to navigate. They have various menus, including the chef's menu, reduced menu, and vegetarian, to name a few. I chose the chefs menu and the team was able to accommodate the request of no beef or pork for me. This was amazing as the menu would not be the same if I were to miss courses. The menu is a bit pricey but well worth the experience. The entire experience takes about 3 hours, and while the individual portions are small, you would not leave hungry as there are many portions. They also have wine pairings, should you wish. The staff is very friendly and provide insight on the dishes as well as how one can best enjoy the course being presented. My favorite was the kazoo lamb. I would definitely return.

This was my second visit to the restaurant, and we made a reservation at the end of September, as I know how popular the restaurant gets. The reservation staff was very responsive, professional, and helpful. As the dinner reservation timeslots were all taken, we ended up getting a lunch reservation at noon, which I am grateful for because it accentuates how beautiful the restaurant's location is. The restaurant is located on a wine estate in Constantia, and I believe that it really enhanced my dining experience. The wait staff was extremely professional, attentive, and knowledgeable. Upon our arrival, we were informed of the different set menu options, including the chef's menu and the reduced menu. The main distinction between these two menus is the number of courses, which translates into a price difference. We chose the full chef's menu and elected to have a different main dish as we do not eat beef due to religious reasons. There were eight courses in total, and the wait staff described each course. Some courses included a description of the origin of the dish's ingredients, or the staff would provide recommendations on how to best consume the courses. Each course was intricate, a taste journey, and a whole dining experience I had never had at a restaurant before. The courses can also be paired with a wine list, but a non-alcoholic pairing is also available. Despite the fact that this was my second visit after a year, each course was unique and provided me with an opportunity to try something new. Upon my reservation, I noted that we were celebrating my partner's birthday. The staff made it particularly memorable for him by thoughtfully providing him with a small birthday gift. Overall, it was a very good experience at the restaurant, and I look forward to coming back again.

I literally cannot say enough good things about this place. Fine dining at its.... finest. Not easy to get a booking, need to book well in advance due to the limited number of seats per night. Also very expensive but it is well worth it for an incredible experience. From the views to the setting and ambience to the chefs who explain and present their dishes and the impeccable service this is a WOW experience and truly world-class. Don't think, just go ahead and book a dinner here and you will be as blown away as I was. Zero complaints and I will remember this restaurant for a long time and certainly return again in future.

La Colombe is an exceptional experience. 5 months ago we visited. The experience is definitely on a completely different level. It will be said once... It is very expensive, not for South African standards, for European standards. That being said, they don't try to be the best in South Africa, they aim to rate themselves with the best in the world. We went for the full experience with the iconic wine menu. There is very little I could fault in the whole experience. If one is in an over critical mood it might be possible to get yourself in a mindset that there are things wrong. That is not my gig and I can really enjoy a master doing his absolute best to excel at every turn. A word of advice, take an uber.

10/10 - An absolutely faultless meal - Each dish seemed somehow tastier than the last. Absolutely recommend opting for the wine pairing. We were just blown away by the service from Filipe, Beatriz and Tristan and huge thank you to the Kitchen team for such absolutely beautiful food. The most wonderful spot for a real treat of a meal and to visit here again would just be a pleasure.

Incredible culinary Experience. We first visited in December 2020 and again on Friday night and were blown away by the staff, venue and food. Truly chasing perfection and excellence in their approach to fine dining. The attention to detail in the plating, table setting and decor is so special. Exceeds any other fine dining we have attended internationally and a restaurant, staff and chef for all South Africans to be proud of. The Wine Cellar Experience was not something we had tried before and it was an event all on its own.

Superb food as expected, although main course not as ordered. Fortunately we had a voucher given to us by a friend, but otherwise the eye-watering international prices were off the scale. You can eat just as well for fraction the price and with more atmosphere at so many wine estates in the area.

We had lunch at La Colombe and it was really nice. We went here because we loved La Petite Colombe in Franchhoek and wanted to have this experience as well. Although the restaurant was great and the service was amazing, we preferred La Petite Colombe. We think the food was a little bit more surprising and the environment gave us more of a WOW feeling. Nevertheless we would definitely recommend to go to La Colombe while you’re in Cape Town (and visit La Petite Colombe as well!)

I just came across these pictures on my phone and was reminded of the wonder that is La Colombe. Once in a lifetime experience. The mussel curry in the charred passion fruit was so delicious I wanted to cry…. Absolute perfection. I cannot believe they don’t have a Michelin star!!!

How do you summarise an experience like La Colombe? For mere mortals not accustomed to fine dining, it is easily a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, or something every few years. The service is unparalleled, with personable waiters and waitresses sharing the story of every course. There will be flavours that will surprise you, and a strong playful element that will delight you. The cost … for mere mortals … was R7000 for 3 people, and that’s with no alcohol of any kind. But this really is an experience that feels genuinely worth it, as it imparts indelible memories. Treasured laughter with your companions with each new food discovery. And, ultimately, a sense of gratitude for being able to just be there and experience it. Thank you to the La Colombe team who make that well-rehearsed magic every night. Here’s to only success … and fun.

I was so excited to come to La Colombe for lunch. We brought an overseas friend to lunch and decided La Colombe would be the right choice. Upon arrival, we greeted by the hostess and offered something to clear our palates. They had charming white chocolate egg with a citrus fruit juice inside. The chocolate eggs were nestled amongst branches of a beautiful display of foliage. Needless to say, if this was the introduction, we were in for a fabulous food journey.<br/>     We were shown our seats, perused the drinking menu and chose Groot Constantia 2017 Pinotage. What a smooth, delightful wine! We then chose which menu we would choose, the Spring Menu or the Chef's Menu. I liked both but I felt the Chef's Menu would be a bit too much to eat for lunch, so Spring Menu it was. We all chose that menu. <br/>     Our menu began with MARLIN TATAKI, BURNT LIME & LAMB ROTI. 7 courses of delectable delights. I'm in trouble! Out came this exquisite forest with the MARLIN TATAKI/BURNT LIME and the LAMB ROTI was petite and presented in a rock carved out. It was delicately displayed and the aromas were tantalizing to the senses. The amazing waiter who served the food and explained the process of how you should eat the food and it was helpful. I wish there was smell-a-vision with pictures. It was mind-blowing.  <br/>     We then followed up with SWEET POTATO BREAD WITH WAYGU DRIPPINGS/OXTAIL I had crumbs of the bread all over the table. It was worth it! So good is an understatement. Beautiful, art, chefiness at it's finest. OH man. We then had a blind tasting of TUNA "LA COLOMBE." It is crazy how the chef is able to beautiful balance the freshest ingredients which are artfully paired and arranged, nestled within a can with ingredients listed on one side and the "La Colombe" on the front of the label. As you open your can, the smell wafts into the air, causing you to salivate. It was playful, and truly an experience that was interactive. So many highlights and not a single disappointment was to be had!! Every single course was an explosion of flavor, mouth-watering aromas to tantalize the taste buds, a true feast of the eyes and senses.<br/><br/>I could go on but rather make a booking. Go there. You won't be disappointed. Our waitress, Marion was a delight! She made our experience sublime! Just know that this is on the pricy side BUT it's worth every single paper money spent! This is eating for the art of food, not just eat and fill your tummy.

LaColombe restaurant<br/>Silvermist (Constantia)<br/><br/>So I haven't done one of these in a while because we have been going to the same places that I've already done a review for. However for lunch yesterday we were privileged to go to one of the top restaurants in the country again. We were not disappointed. From the minute we walked in, to the time we walked out. Everything was truly amazing.<br/><br/>When you walk into La Colombe, we start off with a chocolate-coated shell holding a citrus flavour palate cleanser that explodes in your mouth. We were then shown to our table, where Philip our waiter would look after us for the afternoon. Philip was friendly and funny and really made our experience perfect.<br/><br/>Picking the Winter Special Menu which was 7 courses and just as well we were hungry because there was more than enough food for lunchtime.<br/><br/>First course: Marlin tataki, burnt lime, Lamb roti. Server in a mini garden on the table it was more like two little bite-sized morsels of flavour and deliciousness. The Lamb roti was so tender you could pull the rib bone out of the roti without disturbing it.<br/><br/>Second course: Sweet potato, wagyu drippings, oxtail. This dish gets mixed at the table and the smells were amazing. The sweet potato bread was fresh and dipping them into the mix was a taste sensation.<br/><br/>Third course: Tuna ‘La Colombe’. This is their signature dish and it has never tasted so dam delicious. Perfect tuna with a little kick of spice. My dish of the day so I thought.<br/><br/>Fourth course: Kerala style quail, Prawn, Coriander. Well, I had to change my mind and say that this was the best dish of the day. Perfect little quail drumstick, with a yummy prawn and the perfectly cooked duck breast with the coriander dressing to die for.<br/><br/>Fifth course: Naartjie. The best sorbet I’ve tasted in years. Served on a smoking tree, it looked as good as it tasted.<br/><br/>Main Meal (Sixth course): Malay style linefish. Yellowtail cooked perfectly with crispy skin and delicious sauces and crispy squid and chargrilled corn.<br/><br/>or Petit Poussin, sweetbreads, truffle. Great looking dish with yummy veggies and great tasting sweetbreads. The poussin was the only slightly disappointing part of the meal, which was a touch dry.<br/><br/>Dessert (Seventh course): Bahibe, Blood orange, smoked almond. Sweet but not overpowering. Just the perfect end to a perfect meal. Smoked almond ice cream, chocolate mousse topped with blood orange and dark chocolate.<br/><br/>Petit fours: Speckled Egg, Rooibos Macaron. Served on the mini garden the Speckled egg was amazing.<br/><br/>We couldn’t have asked for a better eating experience! For anyone thinking about going, I would highly recommend this as a must-do!!<br/><br/>LaColombe restaurant teeth rating:<br/>Food: 10 "teeth" out of 10<br/>Service and Staff: 10 " teeth" out of 10<br/>Ambience: 10 "teeth" out of 10<br/>Overall: 30 "teeth" out of 30

WOW! WOW! WOW!<br/><br/>I’m a local Capie and this is my 3rd time here. Bravo👏👏👏<br/><br/>Of course a little pricey for most but you should try visit La Colombe at least once a year.

Amazingly delicious!! Super creative and inventive dishes delivered in a beautiful restaurant by friendly people. If you can splurge a little.. you can definitely splurge it here, you won’t regret it.

The food was a brilliant fusion of sublime tastes and visual stimulation . Both flavors and presentation were on point ! The wines were sumptuous and superbly paired with their respective dishes. Service was excellent both the waitstaff and sommelier were informative friendly and attentive . I felt the bland decorative style of the restaurant with average round tables did detract from the overall experience. All in all a wonderful and highly recommended spot!

I haven’t had such an amazing fine dining experience in quite a while but this was really tops it . The food was incredible - we had a 10 course meal with some lovely pallet cleansers in between. the service was incredible and the decor was lovely - really a beautiful experience. my favorite being the Wagyu beef as well as the tuna

La Colombe was the highlight of my Cape Town trip. A lot of fine dining restaurants around the world focus more on gimmicks than flavor and have rude staff. La Colombe couldn’t be more different. Kind, accommodating staff and exceptionally flavorful food. They take care of you from the second you step foot into the restaurant and keep feeding you till the last minute. You don’t want to miss this.

The food is pretty tasty, the wine selection is good, waiters work as a team which makes for seamless dining. I would recommend it for a special dinner, the prices are a bit steep. Overall satisfying.

Honestly some of the best food I have tasted in my life. <br/><br/>We had the tuna can which was amazing and the rest of the set menu which is perfectly flavored. There are also good non meat options so everyone will be satisfied. The dessert is beyond amazing-served on a tree bark with macaroons and candy floss to name a few. <br/><br/>The staff are well trained and friendly and are more than willing to assist.

One of the best experiences of 2018. The finest cuisine playing with all my senses and a warm, fancy atmosphere blessing my meal. I hope to return soon and next time for lunch, so I can be able to enjoy nature as well.

We had the most taste bud tingling food. Expensive yes but worth it for a celebration. Service was very attentive. So everything pretty spot on. But what one expects from a top class restaurant like a top class hotel is a feeling of pampering and no negativity throughout the entire stay. We could only get a booking for 1.30 pm. No problem. Lovely waitress explained the choice of 2 tasting menus one short and one the full gourmet menu. When it was time to take the order and after we had all chosen, we were informed that only the short menu could be chosen as the kitchen closes at 2 pm. <br/>So the negativity began. A jarring feeling spoiling the pampered ,nothing is too much trouble feelings. We had not been warned of the kitchen closure and had been offered a choice of menus. <br/>The Chef stuck to his guns and the celebratory feeling was starting to wane. No no no La Colombo. This is wrong for such a high end restaurant. Why are you allowed to book for 1.30pm if the kitchen closes at 2pm ??? Why were not told of these important facts as we walked in<br/>The chef begrudgingly said we could have the longer menu. We didn’t as we felt it was too much trouble and had decided by then what we wanted<br/><br/>I thought I wouldn’t send a review as everyone sees this restaurant as untouchable<br/><br/>Thanks to our attitude we had a wonderful time. <br/>Please make sure your guests feel pampered from beginning to end as that is what they are paying for and is almost, as important as the wonderful food<br/>

I loved the whole experience. It's one of the nicest culinary experience. Every dish was enjoyable, the waiters were very attentive and the whole staff was friendly. The restaurant is well organized as well.

One of my biggest bucket list restaurants would have to be La Colombe, and their winer lunch special was too good of a deal to miss! Upon arrival we were given a small palate cleanser before heading to our table. The restaurant is beautiful and we were seated at a table with a magnificent view of the valley. We enjoyed a glass of bubbly before deciding to do the wine pairing with our meal. We started with delicious sourdough, spiced pork lard and salsa verde followed by cape Malay snacks, tuna La Colombe and a delicious seared game fish. The confit duck leg main course was spectacular although it was quite a big portion. The panna cotta dessert was great and we finished off our meal with marshmallow, a macaroon and candy floss. This was a once in a lifetime experience and I’m so glad that I got to finally experience it.

Uma experiência gastronômica, acima de qualquer coisa a ser avaliada individualmente, que vale a pena.<br/><br/>Atendimento impecável, pratos bonitos e saborosos, combinações inusitadas, e um momento rápido com o cheff.

Time stood still, for this special birthday surprise. Each dish truly speaks for itself. Adding to other 5 star reviews, this is bucket list material.

La Colombe<br/><br/>This venue has to be on any self-respecting foodies to-do-list. It’s is truly a remarkable experience, and it did not land at 7th on Tripadvisors top Fine Dining Restaurants in the world by accident.<br/><br/> Now, some might look at the menu and say that it is quite pricey (R1390pp for the Gourmand menu and R2290 with wine pairing), but when you consider that you’re in the presence of sheer culinary wizardry and about to embark on arguably ten of the most delicious courses you are likely to experience…all it seems is forgiven. The attention to detail is astonishing, and you feel that if you about to blink you will be missing out.<br/><br/>I was lucky to get to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon there, before they closed for winter renovations. I live maybe 10 min away and I can’t even recall how many times I’ve driven past the venue. It’s unassuming quite frankly. The road is narrow and winding as you make your way to the parking, with magnificent views on Contantia and surrounds.<br/><br/>The courses were as follows:<br/><br/>1. Sourdough, Spiced Pork Lard, Salsa Verde<br/><br/>2. Tuna ‘La Colombe’<br/><br/>3. Scarlet Prawn, Kerala Style Sweetbreads, Snoek Dressing, Coriander And Sweet Potato<br/><br/>4. Korean Style Wagyu Tataki, Dukkah, Romesco, Hoisin<br/><br/>5. Seared Scallop, Glazed Sous Vide Pork Belly, Sweetcorn, Spiced Coconut<br/><br/>Lemongrass, Ginger, Watermelon, Kalamansi<br/><br/>6. Linefish, Chicken, Mussel, Black Forest Ham, Tarragon Velouté<br/><br/>7. Lamb Loin, Braised Neck, Tenderstem Broccoli, Turnip, Pickled Red Onion,Smoked Garlic<br/><br/>8. Boerenkaas, Peach, Foie Gras And Bourbon, Pecan Nut<br/><br/>9. Roasted Ivoire Namelaka, Pineapple, Chamomile, Sesame, Honeycomb<br/><br/>10. Petit Fours<br/><br/>Needless to say it was a lot of food and we were well and truly stuffed at the end, this was a thoroughly memorable experience. A once in a lifetime …

Food is our theatre. Hope you enjoyed the show!! That was the message inside our bill fold when we had lunch at La Colombe. The show began with the drive up to the top of Silvermist where we parked our car and walked into the reception area of La Colombe. We were warmly greeted and taken straight down the stairs where there is a podium. On it is a garden arrangement with palate cleansers placed on plates. We were told to carefully lift the white chocolate and cocoa butter orb as it is fragile. We popped it into our mouths and bit into it. I opened mine a little too violently. But the verjuice centre did its trick and I was left with a sense of anticipation of what is to come. While we were waiting for Lara and Clinton to join us, Jean, our waiter, brought us a bottle of sparkling mineral water.

The cuisine at La Colombe is to die for. And it better be. Our cab hugs perilous curves in the pitch black night with a practiced precision, not that there's another option as the crashing sea beneath leaves no margin for error. . I should also mention that we're traveling through a downpour. Visibility is next to none as the rain flies, drenching a city that thirsts.

My favorite place in Cape Town! Absolutely loved the food experience, the ambiance and the art behind every dish! I recommend ordering the chef’s menu!

Wow wow wow! We went to La Colombe for my birthday recently and what an adventure it was from start to finish.<br/>Firstly the drive alone is a journey in itself and we were almost unsure that we were on the right track because it’s such an understated entrance.<br/>We knew we were in for an experience from the get go when we were greeted with a pallet cleanser picked from a small garden as a teaser.<br/>When faced with the choice of full menus vs reduced we almost decided to go all in but I’m glad we stuck to the reduced (we each ordered the opposite so that we didn’t miss out on anything and we were still stuffed!)<br/>I can go on forever about each dish but no words can describe - just treat yourself and go.<br/>Service was incredible as well. Great wine knowledge & suggestions. Professional but super friendly at the same time. Marais & I were entranced by how well everyone moved and worked together.<br/>Thank you for the memorable birthday!

After months of trying to get a booking I finally did .The vegetarian tasting menu alone had my mouth watering and left me so inspired. Each savory dish had the perfect balance of creamy and crunch .I was blown away by the quinoa cake which was so delicious. The craft of each chef came through on all dishes .My favorite dish was the risotto, however ,I wished it was presented better on the plate .Amazing service and amazing staff .Will be back again to be inspired

Food in Cape Town is pretty impressive, but La Colombe was one of the best that we experienced whilst we were here. Based in the Constantia region, the drive over was scenic and a wonderful introduction to this lovely lunch. Again this was another place where once we had let the staff know that I was vegetarian, everything else went swimmingly.

What a great culinary experience. I don’t think my review or pics will do it justice. <br/><br/>Service was amazing, Keegan our waiter was great. All the waiters for that matter. Your table was spotless at all times (love), waiters are well versed re the menu and all dishes. It’s just such a breath of fresh air. <br/><br/>The food was something else. I decided to do the full vegetarian menu (10 courses I think). Each dish was perfection. A treat for the palate and the eyes. <br/><br/>I am obsessed with their attention to detail, from the plating and presentation of the food right down to the fact that they have glass straws (love!) everything is meticulously thought out. <br/><br/>Great experience. Definitely one for the food bucket list.

Okay okay okay... lean in and let us tell you a secret 👀<br/><br/>Welcome to one and only, arguably South Africa's best fine dining restaurant (even La Colombe isn't shy to say so on their website). They walk the talk, they can back it up with numerous awards ranging from Trip Advisor Top 10 fine dining restaurants in the world (came in 7th) to 73rd position in the 2017 World's 50 best restaurants Awards <br/><br/>Okay, now that we've gone through a few formalities... 😁 we have been to both La Colombe in Constantia's Silvermist estate as far back as 2014 and late 2017 La Petite Colombe in Frranschoek's Le Quatier Française <br/><br/>See if they have a spring/summer lunch special; on an expansive set menu of at least 3 options for 3/4 courses will cater for all gastronomic dispensations <br/><br/>Otherwise don't be shy to fork out quite a bit on the sample menu, but we promise it'll be worth it! 🤤Don't be shy to ask for recommendations; staff are friendly, professional and accommodating with an eye for detail in all things.<br/><br/><br/>*TIP: it's easier to get your foot in the door (a la reservations) at La Petite Colombe, if you don't mind the scenic winelands drive about an hour out of Cape Town... la Colombe in Constantia is almost always booked out<br/><br/>You can reserve online within 5 minutes of the click of a touch pad, reserving a slot like you reserve a seat on a long haul flight... otherwise go old school and give them a ring ☎️

I was over the moon when I was finally able to make (and keep) a reservation here and woke up in an excellent mood on the day. <br/><br/>The journey to the restaurant once you drive through the gates is quite a steep trek but it the scenery is so captivating you would even drive past the restaurant if possible. I was warmly and efficiently greeted and not made to feel like a burden or left out for choosing to dine alone  - I hate it when restaurants do that. I had already ordered my food when making the booking so service started quite promptly - the bread course was laid out before me with each element explained by the chef as he came and pretty much made the "butter" from scratch on the table in front of me. <br/>The signature tuna course was fun and exciting as I got to open a tuna can to get to my meal - I'm all for gimmicks so this will always be a win. The wine that was suggested by the sommelier was perfect and he hit the nail on the head when suggesting it. There was a course that was served in a secret room and I would highly recommend that you pay that bit extra to try it out if you can, you won't regret it. <br/><br/>The staff were great, food exceptional, decor and scenery to die for and I would really call this place a theatre of cuisine. <br/><br/>Everyone should come here at least once in their lifetime.

Had the testing menu & it was absolutely fantastic. <br/>The food is unique and innovative. The service is great and setting is beautiful. Felt like I was in a wood cabin in the Alps. SOLID 10/10

Exceptional experience that plays with every sense. Food was magnificent. Mad Hatter experience was a bit forced. Creative and innovative. Quail was a winner. Expensive but you really feel that it was worth it.
Wine Dine And Play
The La Colombe restaurant sits towards the back of a lavishly beautiful wine estate with fantastic views of the mountains, and rolling grapevine hills around it. At the time of my visit, they were located on an estate called Constantia Uitsig, and the wine pairings for the dinner that you will see as part of this review were paired with the La Colombe tasting menus. The La Colombe restaurant moved from Uitsig to the Silvermist Mountain Lodge and Wine Estate in 2014, as Uitsig Estate was sold to a private buyer and is now the Open Door Restaurant. After ordering the tasting menu, these are my thoughts on La Colombe

Ticking the box, and that’s all for me tho<br/>Will I go again? Probably not. <br/>Is bad? No not all! <br/>Wow me? No!<br/>I just think there are so many restaurants offer similar quality food but in much cheaper price <br/>
Gabi
La Colombe as a food destination is all that it is made out to be. The attention to detail in terms of the food is unreal, and the only thing better is possibly the taste. Portion sizes are what can be expected of a fine dining restaurant and the R450 spring special is value for money. The staff are impeccably trained and friendly and it's a lovely touch when the chefs come out of the kitchen to explain the dishes to the patrons. The "secret garden" option on the menu is worth the gander. Definitely better during the day to take advantage of the wineland views. If you appreciate fine dining, La Colombe is a must as a culinary destination.

I loved the fact that it did not have the normal scenery i.e. a wine land or the sea.  The fact that it was in the forest with views of trees was just perfect for me.  As we entered we were offered a palate cleanser, a little delicate chocolate ball with all the flavours of green apple that burst in your mouth.  Every single dish was explained to us in detail and every single dish was absolutely delicous.  My son loved every minute of it and my husband that does not have the most fine dining palate also loved everything.  All three of us had different menus, my son the spring one, my husband the small menu and off course I had all the dishes.  It really is an experience, it was well worth the wait and well worth the money.  I was very impressed that although we all had different menus when we were served the same dish the timing was perfect and we all could go into the enchanted forest at the same time as well which my son absolutely loved.  Im not quite sure what dish we had in the enchanted forest as I was too busy looking at my son's facial expressions of enjoyment but I can tell you it was delicous.  It would be impossible to describe every single dish all I can say that our least favourite was the main, although still tasty it was just to rich and I did not like the texture of the bolognaise and this too was too rich.  My son had the cauliflower risotto and it was to creamy and took away from the flavour of the dish.  Most definately will be visiting again. I did not take any points away for the mains as frankly it was still nice and everyting else was perfect.<br/><br/>PS: love the fact that it is a casual affair as the last thing you want is to dress up in stuffy clothes when you are enjoying good food.

What a lovely experience, know that this restaurant is the world top 100 restaurant and the best in Africa, can not say no to that;-). And the food the service the diversified experience really amazed me! Everything had WOW effect. The GARDEN thing was defiantly fantastic! If I am in town again will defiantly go back again!

A few weeks ago I was in Cape Town for my graduation ceremony at UCT. I’ve been studying part time for a few years through UCT so I’ve been very fortunate to be a frequent visitor of one of my very favourite cities. Finally all the hard work of my studies paid off and I had made arrangements to fly down for a long weekend of celebrations. One of the very first planned foodie experiences was at La Colombe. My benedict had surprised me with a booking (weeks ahead) and treated me to a lunch tasting menu at La Colombe as my graduation gift. La Colombe is situated on the Silvermist estate in Constantia. It’s listed on the S.Pellegrino’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants as 73rd for 2017 and is the Eat Out Top 10 2016 runner up. Suffice to say, I was more than a little excited to visit La Colombe.

A truly amazing experience with fine dining. It is an beautiful food experience for anyone as well as die hard foodies. It is the best of Cape Town with amazing plating and taste. Yet the price is the only downfall, if you have the money to afford a place like this you should definitely take that opportunity. They are also very kind and accepting to vegetarians/ pescatarians.

La Calombe has an awesome reputation, and the food didn't disappoint. It was exquisite. <br/><br/>We went with the Gourmand option, and were treated to a fantastic visual and taste experience. Multiple techniques and ingredients, presented in interesting ways, including the brief trip to the "garden" (where the special drink was not to my liking, but the seafood dish was superb). <br/><br/>However as fantastic as the food was, I found the description of each dish too hurried (it was fairly uniform across each person who presented the next course). I would have liked each main ingredient to have been identified, as many of the dishes are intricate with multiple ingredients that aren't immediately recognizable. <br/><br/>It's a small critical observation, and would perhaps irritate other diners if it was standard practice, but I'll certainly ask for more information when I'm next there. <br/><br/>The photos in the previous review perfectly capture my experience
Samantha
Best dining experience I've had so far!<br/><br/>From entering the restaurant and being served an unexpected palate cleanser, to strange but wonderful surprises, everything about this experience is perfect!<br/><br/>The staff are extremely friendly and passionate about food which comes across very strongly. They are very accommodating and welcoming and make the experience even more enjoyable.<br/><br/>My husband treated me to a birthday lunch at La Colombe. We both had the winter special menu and added on the additional course "Enchanted forest" (I definitely recommend everyone try it!).<br/><br/>Every course of the meal was brilliant! There wasn't a single course I disliked, and being a fussy eater this says a lot.<br/><br/>Overall experience is 5 star! I'd definitely go back!

So absolutely delicious! Thank you to Scott and his amazing chefs for fabricating a taste bud extravaganza on a plate. The service was impeccable as always and the gin selection was great. The full 5.0
Carmen Davids
Mind blowing experience. 11 courses and 5 hours later (for the gourmand menu) you will realise why they are consistently rated amongst the best!

Experience is brilliant. I like the wonderland part, the guy is brilliant. Back to food, tonight for me, the quail and beef is the best. The marrow is quite amazing. Several course are quite salty especially the langoustine with beef.

Ooh La La Colombe! <br/><br/>I recently had the most incredible mid-week lunch here with a friend and what a treat it was. <br/><br/>With its outstanding reputation, our expectations were high, and it definitely met all of them. <br/> <br/>The service is excellent from the moment that you're ushered to your table until you're presented with a Scott Kirten signed copy of the menu in an envelope along with your bill. <br/><br/>Service staff are attentive and friendly and explained the menu items well. <br/><br/>I ordered the vegetarian winter menu which included wild mushrooms, quail egg, pickles, the famous La Colombe canned corn, <br/>Butternut risotto, Bulgar wheat, coriander and soubise and various palate cleansers (including a gastronomic ice lolly) along with a cleverly themed 'taste test' dessert game. Every dish was beautifully and creatively plated. <br/><br/>The mushrooms were mild on the palette and didn't leave me wondering were unusual flavours were coming from, as i was expecting, but every dish to follow did exactly that. <br/><br/>My favourite dish was the taste test, which constituted 5 little dessert items on different colored plates, which you had to match to their corresponding palette taste (sweet, sour, umami etc.) on the game card. <br/><br/>I'm definitely going to come back for their full vegetarian menu at some stage.

What can I say... excellent! Everything is very well thought. From the booking system to the moment of your coffee after a delicious dinner. Perfectly trained staff and helpful sommelier. The center of this experience is the food. Very interesting plating that complements the complexity of the flavours. At the table we had both fish and meat dishes, all equally great. One place to add to your visits when in Cape Town.

I finally got to tick one of the top 10 restaurants in Cape Town off my list! The food at La Colombe was beautifully presented. So much so, that we frequently commented that we didn't want to eat it! Most of it was delicious as well, but I can't give it a 5, simply based on my own opinion. Some of the food was just too adventurous and the flavours didn't quite work together for me. On the whole, though, it was a wonderful experience.

La Colombe was an absolutely faultless delicious dining experience. <br/><br/>The decor is very clean modern and traditional fine dining. The spots by the window are probably the nicest in the restaurant. The ambience is very intimate and relaxing.<br/><br/>Our waitress was very funny and explained the dishes well. She even noticed that the veloute was missing on a dish and sent it back to the kitchen. She really made the experience an enjoyable one. A little more attention could have been paid to drinks but other than that it was perfect. <br/><br/>I loved that they had a reduced set menu with 9 courses for R790 (wine pairing 1370) and a full menu of 12 courses for R1200 (wine pairing 1990). There is also a vegetarian menu for R640 and R890 respectively which I dare say is probably equally as delicious. The kitchen accommodated dietary requirements excellently.<br/><br/>Our first course La Colombe garden was presented in quail eggs and packed with flavour.<br/><br/>The second course of spiced lamb, dukkah and red wine was their take or a bread and butter course. The bread is made from red wine and the butter which is heated on the hot dish in front of you had a rich lamb taste.<br/><br/>Course three was a poached west coast oyster, pickled squid, smoked salmon and piccalilli. I had my dish without the chorizo. I didn't know Oyster could taste so good. <br/><br/>The other third course option was springbok tartare, pickled chestnut, chipotle and foie gras had a beautiful sweet rich flavour.<br/><br/>Course four was tuna La Colombe presented in a cab was another deliciously flavoursome dish. <br/><br/>Course five was the seared scallop, char siu pork belly, cauliflower, apple, Black Forest ham veloute. The fiancé expected this to be a scallop dish but the pork belly overpowered the scallop whose flavour was lost in the dish. I had the dish without the pork belly and ham veloute. My dish generously included two scallops and a salsa verde which was a little too strong although delicious for the scallops.<br/><br/>Course 6 was a lime and litchi palate cleanser. Very sour for me but certainly cleansed my palate.<br/><br/>Course 7 was the main course of pan fried line fish (kingklip), cashew, lemongrass, kimchi, coriander, coconut and corn veloute. This was the most perfectly cooked piece of fish I have ever eaten in my life. Just so wow. The sauce was overpowering but this dish was just so yum.<br/><br/>Course 7 alternative was the beetroot risotto, burrata, sage, beurre noisette. Fiance's favourite dish. It was astonishing how much flavour was packed into the risotto.<br/><br/>Course 8 dessert has three ages of boerenkaas, onion, rhubarb, walnut and onion. This is a play on a traditional cheese platter course by offering you a savoury dessert. Very interesting dessert, i am glad I tasted it but I still prefer my dessert sweet.<br/><br/>Course 8 alternative dulcey namalaka, basil, raspberry and ginger was just wow. Incredible delicious and perfect. Desserts are usually disappointing but not this one. The basil in the dish really elevated the flavour of the dessert.<br/><br/>Lastly course 9 was the taste test of which you get five petit fours and have to match them to the flavours sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami. <br/><br/>Water was unfortunately not complimentary. Tried a spiced delight non alcoholic drink which was delicious.<br/><br/>Loved every bit of the experience. Food was impeccable in both taste, presentation and innovation. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back as soon as I can!

Celebrated Mikaela's birthday at La Colombe. A gastronomic experience. Fine dining at its best. It was a cold evening and the warmth of the restaurant was most welcoming as were the staff. <br/>We had the 10 courses . Our waiter suggested the wines which paired perfectly with our meal choices. The birthday girl was given a box of decadent truffles.<br/>Get a taxi there and back as the drive way is steep and the wines good. <br/><br/>

Absolutely stunning estate! Their food is reminiscent to seasonal flavours and organic produce! There is a calm during lunchtime service and even live music! The decor is contemporary and rustic, but there's also old fashioned couches. Also beware of pigs running through the gardens, never mind the ducks and chickens 🐷 🐣 I'd also recommend wine tasting! It's organic too 😀 anddddddd their pastries are made early that same day and made damn well! The lemon meringue is harmonious with a tangy sweetness!
Chantal Muller
Had the reduced tasting menu on Friday evening. Overall, the food was pretty awesome and the service was great too. Just 2 things - The decor really could be improved. I get the whole minimalist vibe, but I felt like I came to the dining room after everyone had eaten and left and I was hoping to pick up some left overs. It just looks too sparse for my liking. And the 2nd thing is the "chicken" dish. It really equated to some sauce on a plate with a roll. Even the chicken skin was tiny pieces of skin that just disappeared in the little bit of sauce. Now that the 2 "improvement opportunities" have been dealt with... Let's get to the rest. WOW!!!! What awesome food. I really wanted to lick my plate most of the time. It was that good. The oyster, the tuna, the scallop and pork belly. Oh heavens! Just delicious. The fish was amazeballs and the lamb and sweet breads were tasty, but if I had to choose again, i'd go with the fish. The cheese desert was interesting and the berries were divine. Overall, an absolutely divine experience, that will be remembered by my taste buds for a long long time. Yum! Note: Added pics of protégé in franschoek, which is an asso iatdd restaurant, and doesn't seem to be loaded on Zomato.

We had the most amazing dinner experience. The food is amazing and an explosion on the taste buds. Attention to detail is certainly La Colombe's strong point. The waiting staff and sommelier are well trained and professional. Huge compliments to the chef. His combination of flavours, textures and creativity are mind blowing.
Debbie Bergmann-harris
Still trying to find that sweetspot of another that can top our last La Colombe visit, not yet! We spent our anniversary lunch in their caring creative hands and loved every minute of it.  This award winner deserves it.

Had the absolute pleasure of joining the La Colombe team for lunch a few days ago and what an amazing experience, we've decided no trip to Cape Town would be complete without a meal here... if we can get a reservation of course! What's special about this place is that not only is the food incredible but so is the service, there is a relaxed ambience that allows you to truly enjoy every moment without the pretentious atmosphere so prevalent in other highly rated restaurants. Their Eat Out award for best service in SA is most definitely deserved. I'd recommend the 13 rather than the 8 course tasting menu as the portions aren't big and everything is definitely worth a taste. The best dish we tried has to be the cheese course, three ages of Boerenkaas with pickled onions and walnut ice cream... Original... delicious... still dreaming about it! Beautiful example of a restaurant that appreciates the people who make what they do possible, the diners.
Courtney
The food, wine, setting and service are all impeccable! By far my favourite restaurant to date in Cape Town. We went as a large party with a few vegetarians, vegans, meat-eaters and an allergen here or there but they could not have been more accommodating. The food itself was delicious and we all agreed that although some combinations were unexpected, they were all wonderfully paired and beautifully presented. Great service with the staff knowing every inch of the food and wine menu too. Will definitely recommend La Colombe as a first choice for foodies or anyone entertaining guests.
Dino
Expectations were high when we dined at La Colombe, and booking four months in advance we had months to get excited for the experience. The setting is very intimate with tables spaced well apart and tablecloths ironed onto each table pristinely. The service is super slick and attentive, our waiter Savio was one of the best waiters I've ever been served by, he knew the menu and wine list back to front, and made proper, honest recommendations with regards to the selections which we really appreciated. The manageress also gave us a few complimentary glasses of wine to taste with other courses and everything ran like a well oiled machine. The food was outstanding, every course was a gradual progression in terms of flavours building up beautifully and we were really impressed with the attention to detail. This is one of the best restaurants in South Africa and you absolutely have to try it.
Johan Benade
We managed to get a booking in December and the restaurant did not disappoint. It came highly recommended by trusted sources. It was simply outstanding on every level. No point in adding any further details as it has be experienced in person rather...
Hopelessly Hungry
Absolutely breathtaking view, the drive was well worth it and the setting was awesome. They made us feel very special and the wine list was extensive and interesting. The food was beautiful. Not everything was to my taste like the salmon and fruit dish, but every now and again u have a bite that changes the axis of the world... a worthy once in a lifetime experience. We were not lucky enough to have been cooked for by Chef Kurtin, but his assistant chef was very capable and everything was memorable.

So goes without saying that La Colombe is one of the best restaurants in the country and rightly deserves this reputation! The venue is beautiful and welcoming, the food is outstanding, interesting, surprising and delicious. Price wise it is not cheap, but then you don't expect food like this to be cheap :-) That said it is in line with the likes of Test Kitchen etc. <br/><br/>So the question is should La Colombe get a 4.5 or a 5???? I have only ever given a 5 once and that is to Test Kitchen, so lets compare. Food is of equal quality and creativity, Price is similar with the same options of wine pairing etc, Service, well this is where La Colombe let themselves down. I had to fill my own wine a number of times and although this is a small thing when you paying over a R1500 a person you shouldn't have to do this. In addition the explanation of the food just missed the same precision as TK.

La Colombe definitely deserves its place in the top restaurants in South Africa! Excellent setting in Constanta overlooking beautiful gardens! <br/><br/>The service is stunning and the wait staff are cheerful and very attentive... paying attention to little details ...the sommelier was also very knowledgeable and recommended some wine pairings for the food(we did not do the full wine pairing)<br/><br/>The food was exquisite and we ordered the full 9 course meal as we didn't want to miss out on anything :) our table did both the non-vegetarian and the vegetarian meal.<br/>We started with fresh sour dough bread and freshly churned butter with wild garlic. My absolute favourite was the corn course... would have happily eaten a full plate of that !<br/>Each course to follow was inventive and creative. The flavours were scrumptious!!<br/><br/><br/>Definitely a must do every time you go to Cape Town !!

We went to La Colombe, one of South Africa's most iconic and internationally acclaimed fine dining restaurant for dinner. The place is located in Constantia and has an amazing view that you will be able to enjoy during the day so I would recommend this place for lunch.<br/><br/>The service is great. Staff is very friendly and professional. Food is exquisite. Full of new flavors and interesting mixes. We've ordered a half menu with wine pairing. The experience was amazing<br/><br/>Make sure you book in advance as it was fully booked for the week but we got lucky to get the last available table. <br/><br/>Food: Exquisite <br/>Service: Amazing<br/>Menu: Original (they also offer vegetarian options)<br/><br/>#BonAppetit<br/><br/>

Honestly can't fault la Colombe.<br/>The attention to detail here is exquisite, from the gentle but not overwhelming attentiveness of the waiters to the little surprises they bring you between courses. <br/>They knew it was our anniversary so we arrived to some free bubbly, lovely touch! <br/>Every course was an experience, we couldn't help ourselves but to taste each others food the whole way through as we didn't want to miss out on anything! <br/>We were both so fascinated by the food we forgot to take any pics! 😄<br/>From the adorable tuna can style appetiser to the mouth watering petit fours that arrived with the bill, a great experience you have to try!

I think to over complicate this review with paragraphs and paragraphs of my thoughts and feelings towards the food would be wasteful. I would hate to ruin the surprise of each outstanding taste, sensation and emotion you will experience when you eat at this world-class restaurant.  Most certainly my 2016 restaurant of the year!<br/><br/>From the moment we walked in we were greeted with smiles, attentive service and passionate staff. Everything about this restaurant, the people and most importantly the food will delight you and excite you. <br/><br/>Please... see for yourself.
Candice Van Der Walt
My absolute favourite fine dining restaurant by far, every single dish was mind blowing and exceptionally tasty, there wasn't one dish that I thought missed the mark. Beautiful setting, amazing food and service, can't wait to go back.
Kate Mulholland
Superb cuisine. I'd like to eat there at least once a week! Every dish is artfully plated. The flavours are incredible in each dish. A very creative and masterfully thought out menu.<br/><br/>

There is a reason this is the No#2 restaurant in South Africa. From the first to the last bite every mouthful is an absolute delight. The La Colombe Garden, was my favorite, with steak tartare to die for. The flavours of each dish have been blended together perfectly to complement each other. No need to even mention things such as service, it's a given in a world class establishment like this.
Anna Rita
Nested in the vineyards, this stunning restaurant is a perfect venue to bring family and friends for a special magical evening, filled with interesting inquisitive dishes.
Catherine Kannemeyer
I still relive this dish over and over and can't wait to have it again. My kind of dessert. The pickled fish was also not something you would recognize but greatly delicious.
Mikaela
Amazing, amazing, amazing!<br/><br/>La Colombe will knock your socks off. They get everything so right - the presentation, the food, and the service.<br/><br/>We went for dinner and had the tasting menu without the wine pairing, but La Colombe has an extensive wine list with the most amazing wines so I definitely want to try the wine pairing next time!<br/><br/>The most loved dish was definitely the garden log, but all the dishes were incredible! The only complaint was from the two guys at the table who complained the portions were too small. La Colombe even left a box of the truffles on the table as a birthday gift which was just the sweetest! Most incredible experience!

I preferred the old location, in the older building on Uitsig Estate, as I was there a few years ago. This more modern location is beautiful however and is at the top of a long, winding road in Silvermist Estate just down from Constantia Nek circle on the Hout Bay side. <br/><br/>The food and service was impeccable. While it is fine dining, it is unpretentious and we felt very much at home. Wine selection is broad and there's something for most tastes and pockets, ranging from just over R200 into the thousands. <br/><br/>We chose the 14 course selection but there is also a 10 course selection available. Our 14 courses were served over a four hour period and not once did we spare a thought wondering when our next course was coming. <br/><br/>There is corkage for R80 permitting one bottle per table so we chose to buy one there and take another from the 'cellar'. Two bottles over a four hour period was about right though in hindsight our G&T aperitif had threatened to tip the scale from the start. <br/><br/>Food arrived at comfortable intervals and each and every dish was outstanding and beautifully presented. All of the staff were well informed and described every meal flawlessly. The way they interacted with us could be described as "informally formal", which was perfect for the setting. Melissa was our main waitress for the evening but we were served by a number of staff, all of whom were excellent. <br/><br/>I would highly recommend it and would recommend to do the full 14 courses at least once. It is an experience rather than just a night out.
Trevor
Second visit to La Colombe, this time for lunch. Obviously this time we were able to take in the scenic drive and stunning views en route to restaurant as well as the view from the dining room. <br/>The true test of great restaurants is consistency. This is true of La Colombe. As impressed as we were last time ( dinner ) we were equally impressed this time.<br/>We choose the 4 course tasting menu without the wine pairing R690. The presentation was top class and the food was really to use a cliché ' an explosion of tastes '<br/>Could not really ask for better. One of my party selected the vegetarian tasting option which was given a 5 star rating.<br/>We spoiled ourselves with a bottle of David Nieuwoudt Ghost Corner Sauvignon blanc wild ferment 2014 - simply peerless.<br/>The one blemish was the omission of the Granny Smith palate cleanser between the main courses. Had to remind our waiter. So cleanser was served just before dessert which was not ideal. Perhaps petty but at a restaurant of this reputation not expected.<br/>Nevertheless a treat to be back at La Colombe
Chetna Black
5 Star everything for La Colombe. Have eaten here a few times but was also lucky enough to attend my friends wedding here. The setting is phenomenal and worth the winding road to get there.  View is gorgeous and the food spectacular. Excellent service and delicious food make this place a real treat. If you can, try go for the winter special as its a bit easier on the budget and will give you a true taste to the experience that is La Colombe.

Finally had a chance to try out La Colombe. Had an afternoon of food sensation (visual & taste) !! The service was really good (they make you feel like a royalty there) and the food was AMAZING!! Simply the best... We had the 14 course tasting menu - worth every penny..
Annie Hodes
So excited to finally experience this awesome restaurant, voted the best in CT, dining with 10 chefs too who have super discerning palates, wow such an amazing evening, the food is top class @priyatsogosun
Matthew Thomson
The most exceptional evening with possibly the best food and service I have ever experienced!!!! Love the sauces in all of the dishes. Stand out dishes - La Combe Tuna, Lamb's tongue and Quail.
Zack
La Colombe - one of the greatest fine dinning experiences I've had in a while. The setting was beautiful in new-lands forest. The food was a great take on homemade taste, turned fine cuisine. The smoked ox tongue was by far the star of the meal.
YN
Superb location set up in the hills of Constantia but the highligh was the food which was amazing . We did the degustation menu with the matched "Rare & Fine Wines". The courses were all an experience. Flavours exploding in the mouth. The wines paired up perfectly.<br/><br/>It's hard to pick a favourite. The Foie Gras on Springbok Loin was probably the pick - silky smooth foie gras that melted in your mouth on a medium rare piece of springbok. The textures were contrasting, the flavours rich and the whole thing finished off in a fig jus. Amazing.<br/><br/>Highly recommended
Derek Miller
We have waited ages to go to the new venue and we're not disappointed. I seldom with award 5/5 rating! We had the tasting menu which was unbelievable. As it was lunch we chose not to have wine pairing and had 2 delicious Chenin Blancs and a glass of Shiraz with the Springbok loin! Each dish was amazing, delicate and carefully plated, multiple flavours each individual yet blending perfectly. Art on a plate. Book early to get a place at this one of a kind Restuarant. Still the best in the country
Nicole Vrede
A phenomenal creative food experience! <br/><br/>It is worth saving up for and going for the full tasting menu as it is a truly unique experience.<br/><br/>The waiter we had was the best I have ever seen, so fun yet professional and knowledgable, and not pretentious at all.<br/><br/>I love the small extras they do for you. Even the plates they serve the food on is just amazing and a talking point.<br/><br/>The space is very minimalistic, not much decor, the food is the decor basically. Nothing distracts from that.
Nick Bizos
La Colombe had delicious food with new flavours and incredible finishes. A real must try for a beautiful Sunday lunch. Interesting combinations and the truffle gravy with the beef fillet was exceptional. <br/><br/>There were just two small problems that prevented the 5 rating: firstly, we were just far too hot in a small restaurant as there were no fans or aircon, which made lunch a little uncomfortable. <br/><br/>Additionally, having a nut allergy and informing the staff members twice didn't prevent them including the cashews with the line fish. Fortunately, the waiters were perfectly understanding and it was fixed in no time.
Imari Du Plessis
A bucket list dinner. On the shortlist for one of the best dinners of my life. Can't wait to go back. Probably the best spot for a romantic dinner in Cape Town.
The Foodie Corner
I had the privilege of being treated to lunch at La Colombe and I must say, this restaurant really does take the fine dining experience to the next level!<br/><br/>Upon arriving, we were given their complimentary bread and tuna starter, which was absolutely devine! I love how they serve the tuna in a tin can - very original and gives a lovely rustic, relaxed feel to the entire dish. And of course, freshly baked farm bread with homemade butter always goes down well!<br/><br/>For starters, we ordered the chicken soup, scallops and pork belly and prawns. All three were standout dishes, being both beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The soup was a very creative dish in that it was sort of a deconstructed soup, but every component matched perfectly. The same can be said for the scallops and pork belly. The prawns were the special of the day and were definitely worthy of a 5/5! <br/><br/>Before mains, we were given another serving of bread, this time with a smoked pork butter. The bread was still warm from the oven and it went down well after our starters. We were also given a palette cleanser - a white chocolate ball that pops in your mouth if you let it dissolve - An interesting experience!<br/><br/>For mains, we had the linefish and the lamb. The linefish was kingklip, which I was a bit skeptical of since almost all of the kingklip dishes I've tasted have been failures. However, this one was fantastic! It was amazing to taste each component of the dish and see how well it worked with the fish. Absolutely amazing! Although I didn't taste the lamb, it looked simply delicious as well.<br/><br/>We ended the afternoon with a cheese board and the chocolate and pistachio dessert. The dessert was very interesting - it wasn't as sweet as I expected, but still flavorful. I absolutely loved the pistachio mousse! <br/><br/>Beyond the spectacular food, the service was also five star! Our waiter was always there ready to take our orders and top up our wine. Our food arrived promptly and the time between courses was just right. I also love the cool, open atmosphere the light colors create. The whole restaurant has a sort of treehouse feel to it and it's the perfect spot on a hot summer's day. <br/><br/>There's honestly not one thing I can fault. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to La Colombe and will definitely visit again in the future!
Victor
How privileged are we to enjoy food of this quality? La Colombe again is one of those restaurants which showcases SA's cuisine as amongst the best in the world. We don't have Michelin stars as I think it cannot accurately describe our food. Therefore a Southern Cross for La Colombe. Worthy of its nomination as a top 20 nominee in SA. Good luck with the results on Sunday!
Hildegarde
Thoroughly enjoyed this fine dining experience where each dish pleasantly surprised us from the "tuna tins" to the "sparkling chocolates". Can understand why this is one of the top restaurants in South Africa (and the world in my view).
Derek Boulware
We did a pairing dinner at La Colombe back when it was still situated at Constantia Uitsig!  The food and service was spectacular, and the waitstaff knew the details behind the food as though they were all chefs themselves.  We were really impressed how every dollop on the plate complemented the flavours of the main course!!  Nothing short of amazing!  We will be back!!!!
Julie Taylor
The food and service was excellent, but not much atmosphere - especially for a Friday evening. I'm sure the location is stunning during the day, being nestled in the trees. The only other downside was being pesciterian, every dish has meat even the seafood options. The waitress went to extra efforts to accommodate us but it would have been nice to have sampled at least one dish as the chef envisioned it to be.
Philip The Foodie
We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at La Colombe today. From the warm welcome by security before we even got to the restaurant, to the enthusiastic greeting on arrival at the lovely dining room, La Colombe takes the enjoyment of its guests seriously. <br/><br/>We chose the seven course degustation menu and enjoyed everything we ate. Highlights were the poached oyster, the springbok and the quail dish with celeriac and truffle. Matching wines were unusual. <br/><br/>Staff were exceptional. This is a very well run machine indeed. A great gourmet experience. Highly recommended.
Samantha Matos
Most delicious style of food. Every bite was savoured and wished for more. The attention to presentation is outstanding and the service is exceptional. Worth every penny
Ryan Ramage
What can I say that has not already been said. Excellent food and well looked after. This was a treat and a must to do again. Had a bad start to the day when the restaurant could not find our email confirmation of booking. Felt quite embarrassed but was quickly resolved. The Dessert was the best of the courses.
Simone Hasselbach
Went here a few years back while still at Constantia Uitsig. A chic little restaurant back then that took us on a magical journey for our anniversary celebration. We had the misfortune of seeing a little cockroach happily walking accross the wall for most of the evening but notified the waiter who immediately got rid of it. The hostess came to our table to apologise but we were understanding as it was a very humid evening and those suckers always show up unexpectedly. I think we were more worried that the group of raucous ladies sitting behind the pillar would make a scene. Enough said about the roach! The food was amazing! We did the gourmand tasting menu and it was worth every penny spent. We haven't been to the restaurant now at its new location in Constantia Nek but we hope to go very very soon ☺ oh... and every award you guys have won is well deserved. Good luck at the Eat Out Awards next month!!!
Kaylee Morrick
I have been lucky enough to frequent this restaurant a few times. I have never been let down, from impeccable service to outstanding food. I always walk in with the highest of expectations and I've never ever been let down. This restaurant should be put on all restaurant bucket lists - you will not be disappointed!
Bebz H
La Colombe is outstanding. You will savor and LOVE every bite. The food is nothing short of exceptional. Service 5 star. Location 5 star. Treat yourself! It is worth every penny
Vanessa Berger
Amazing food! Seriously can't fault any of the dishes we tasted! The sauce for the beef took 4 days to make- so worth it. The only thing I will say is that some of the service didn't quite match up to the degree that you would expect at a restaurant like this. We had to ask for wine and water to be poured which was a little disappointing. Would highly recommend though!!
Bianca Lee Coleman
The team in the kitchen and on the floor have taken this award winning restaurant to a new location where they have not only maintained the high standards but raised them. The food is delicious, the presentation exquisite and creative (the "tinned tuna" amuse bouche is fun and clever), and right now there is a very affordable winter lunch special so no need to wait for an excuse.
Cinzia
I had the privilege of eating at La Colombe on the last night of our getaway to Cape Town. Firstly, why is this restaurant not ranked higher???? WOW!! We had the Gourmand dinner menu - not one dish was a disappointment. Venue was great, service was exceptional (Luci our waitress was not only knowledgeable but you could see she was passionate about food and La Colombe) and the sugar on the top was the sommelier; he read us so well and added to our experience. World Class evening and an unforgettable experience!
Belinda Haydn
Had dinner at la Colombe this passed Friday after they reopened after their winter holiday. They have closed in the verandah so the entire restaurant opens up and its a great addition to the ambience. <br/>We were treated like royalty! <br/>They have changed the menu slightly with some influences from Scott's latest trip to Spain. The food as always was outstanding and its still our family favourite! I cannot wait to celebrate my wedding there in December Jennifer and team you are doing a fabulous job! See you again soon!
Cape Town Dad
Had to have the 7-course tasting menu, because it looked great. And it was. Every course was superb, with unique taste combinations. The staff are incredibly well informed and service is excellent. The food is not unduly rich in flavor, as is sometimes the case at fine dining spots. Fantastic wine selection too.
Andrew Clare
An exceptional experience equal to a two star Michelin restaurant in any European country. Fantastic view, superb service, phenomenal taste and textures in the food.
Debbie Hannibal
My absolute favourite restaurant of all time (on both the old premises and new). Have never celebrated food and people in such true style. The desserts (and anything by the pastry chef, like his butter and burst-in-your-mouth-palate cleaners) are just exceptional. The french manager Jennifer, treats you like an old friend. No snobbery and the waiters are well informed of every dish (including all allergens). My annual celebration will continue with Jen,  Scott and her team.
Janine De Grill
My all time favorite. Amazing food, a true taste experience. The waitrons are awesome with a thorough knowledge of the menu items. Fine dining at its best. Dynamite really does come in small packages each morsel a taste explosion.
Laura Rice
Want to spoil yourselves? .... then this is the place to do it. Not a meal but rather a food experience. Choose from a 6 or 4 course menu, with or without wine pairings. Each dish is a work of art with outstanding flavours and textures. The service is attentive but not overbearing. And it is on a beautiful wine farm to boot!!
