Review Tong Lok - Claremont

I love their crunch roll sushi. Its amazing. Totally worth it! I don't really like their spring rolls though, they are so bland. The staff has the perfect customer service etiquette. It's overall a great place for a quick sushi fix.

I grew up going to Tong lok and having the sweet lady at the till always give me sweets and honestly their customer service and kindness has never changed! Just a couple days ago my parents and I were waiting in the car for the food, just a few minutes went by and we saw one of the amazing staff come out and deliver our food to our amazement. Although it may not seem like much to some but to me and my parents included, that was amazing. He smiled and even waited till we left all while looking so happy it just put all of us in a good mood 😊. Highly and will forever recommend Tong Lok :). Also the food is absolutely delicious 😋

The food is flavorful and ingredients are fresh. The 5 stars was given for the exceptional welcoming service, I got smiles, suggestion on the most popular dishes and the hottest curries and even got served some water while I waited for my take away. There's nothing like being treated well... Will definitely be back 😊

I have been ordering from here a lot recently. Really good food and very cheap. I just cannot get enough of the sweet and sour chicken and sesame seed chicken. Also a good selection of dumplings and sushi. Definitely worth a try.

The crispy beef is really delicious. The portion size is good too. Not exactly enough for two but more than enough for a meal and a snack later.

Always fast and fresh, Tong Lok is family restaurant run a lovely couple. Great for vegetarians and vegans - the 'Salt and Pepper Tofu' is a must try!

The chicken chow mein is very nice, i like it. The 50% off is like the click bait video's you see on youtube. They say 50% off, but when you get in store, its only 50% off individual pieces of sushi, which is expensive still.

I go there because of their half price sushi. Just be aware of their R5 charge for each item which can add up to quite a bit. Sushi is fresh and delicious.

We shared the Double Pack special which includes a choice of 2 large boxes and 4 vegetable spring rolls for R165. We opted for the large beef chow mein and chicken chop suey. Both dishes were tasty, with clean flavors and just the right amount of sauce. The spring rolls were deliciously crunchy and made for a great appetizer. The staff were really friendly and we got our food quickly.

We love Tong Lok! It’s our local and very often the best sushi we have. Quick and delicious and friendly. The salmon roses are the best size. They have a lot of specials too.

Decided to get a takeaway for lunch. They were busy making sushi and took a while (even after the one had finished making sushi) for them to acknowledge and serve me. Ordered springrolls and beef chow mein. The springrolls were okay. I had about 3 mouthfuls of chow mein and then had to throw it away as it had oyster sauce or fish oil (I'm allergic and started getting rash). I think they really need to specify what ingredients are used in their food.

Absolutely amazing sushi every time! The Crispy Beef is an absolute must! The dumplings are to die for. Been going to this little place for years now and they have never let me down.

I love the sushi here, great value for money esp before 5pm when it is 50% off and then 30% off before 9pm. Not a place for a romantic dinner and I don't think it has a license. But it has great, fresh sushi and very personable service. They do great tempura prawn. Haven't tried their Chinese cuisine yet but will do soon. I've been here about 5 times since discovering it a month or so ago.

Sushi always fresh, decently priced and sized. Really like the fact that they offer Japanese as well as Chinese cuisine. My favourite is their prawn dumplings, always cooked perfectly and yummy.

One of our favorite sushi places we frequently order our sushi from here it is always fresh and tastes great. The chicken chow mien is one of my personal favorites.

Since moving to Cape Town I found Tong Lok to be one of the better Chinese take away spots. Their cosy and clean restaurant has always left a good impression however I cannot say I was fully satisfied with their food this time round... ordered beef in oyster sauce which had +/- 7 small pieces of beef and the rest was large chunks of what tasted like old vegetables in barely any sauce. Such a pity because they had always had my high recommendations...

Went there after 3 years since moving out of the SouthPoint (the student accommodation at the Stanhope building). The service is just as I remembered. They treat you well and make sure you have everything you need 😊 it's a small cozy place but most people would prefer to get takeout. The sushi portions are pretty small yet delicious 🍣 tried their shrimp dim sum and they were amazing. Would definitely recommend their sushi and dim sum.

Had a delicious lunch with my family. Their hot and sour soup and beef flank are amazing. And their portions sizes are great value for money. Their sushi is also really good and their sushi specials make it even more worth while. Great service. Not the best ambience.

The portions are generous and the food is good enough. This is a great place to go to when looking for a quick way to satisfy your craving for some Asian comfort food. Unfortunately they don't make their shrimp chips from scratch - which seems to have become an industry standard these days much to my disdain - so if you order those late in the day you'll be met with some very oily and kinda stale chips.

Always a great takeaway from Tong Lok. I've often ordered the beef in oyster sauce and it's delicious. Consistently yummy comfort food. Not the healthiest but good to order once in a while! :)They also make a delicious chicken cashew nut too. Portion are really big and pricing is affordable.

First of all the services in this store is surprisingly very humble and felt warm welcomed! The owner remembered what some of the frequent customers will order as soon as they walked in. <br/><br/>The Foods in reasonably fair, because the portion is big at this price. <br/><br/>In general the foods is tasty than some Sushi restaurant, regardless this is a take away . <br/><br/>

Boo, good food but the draw was delivery...but turns out they're no longer delivering! Was perfect for the odd night I was stuck home with the kids on my own and had a craving for dumplings 😢

Had a Tong Lok take away. I had a chicken egg fried rice. It was okay, the chicken was a bit too over cooked but the rice was nice. Wouldn't mind giving another option a try.

The sushi and Chinese food is super adorable and tastes good! Their salmon roses are my fav :) the Chinese food serves for a good meal on a cold Cape Town day. The staff are friendly and inviting

As being Chinese and all I can say this food is traditional and tastes like home. Really kind people and the food is great value for its price and their steamed buns are naughty.

I have had their sushi twice now and I have to say it is absolutely amazing! We recently had the double pack deal which is definitely value for money as the Steak chow mein and Sweet & Sour Chicken was the best I have eaten in Cape Town so far and the portions are very decent for the amount that you're paying. We ordered this past Saturday and even though I was only able to collect after 18:00, because I had called before 17:00 they were more than happy to include the 50% sushi discount. Wonderful service, great tasting food, will definitely be going back for more! :)

My boyfriend and I love Chinese so after reading all the great reviews, I thought it would be nice to try out a new spot. We had the sweet&sour chicken, beef chow mein (even though I ordered the chop suey) and egg foo yong. Everything was good and I especially enjoyed the egg foo yong. The shop is very clean and as all the other reviews mention, the gentleman behind the counter very friendly. He immediately greeted me with a smile when I stepped in.

I have only eaten the sushi, but judging from the other reviews the Chinese food is good too. They have half price sushi from 3-5pm a bit of an odd time...but not gonna complain! Sushi was good and they've added some new sushi items since the last time I was there. Tried the dim sum once, years ago and it grossed me out a bit so haven't tried it again!

Had a great Sushi meal! Order was quick and easy and service was friendly. Had some extra than what was offered on one platter, everything was packet neatly.

The Chicken Chow Mein with noddles is one of their recommended dishes and I decided to give it a go. I must say that it's really good and I will definitely be giving them another visit soon enough. Also their sushi specials look like something you would like to try.

Tong Lok is incredible! Being an avid fan of Chinese food, I was glad that they had such a vast menu! My boyfriend and I ordered the chow mein which was perfect in taste, flavor and looks! The staff were very friendly which was a plus!

Best Chinese take out in the southern suburbs! I have gone all over trying to find the right place only to be disappointed over and over. I now know my mistake was not trying this place sooner. <br/><br/>I found the man behind the counter to be so kind and friendly to every customer who came in the door which really made me smile. Great food, have tried much of the menu and everything was great. The gentleman who runs the place is great. Very friendly and goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The owner, his son is not accommodating or friendly but luckily he is hardly there.

Found Tong Lok on Zomoto and placed our order via telelphone when we got to Claremont to collect everything was ready and packed so nicely. The gentleman in the store was friendly and so sweet really made it a pleasure to go in there. We ordered dim sum, sweet and sour pork and spring rolls and we loved everything. i especially loved the sweet and sour sauce that came with the sweet and sour pork it was amazing.

Had some amazing Chinese again at this amazing restaurant! Some of the best chicken noodle soup, sweet and sour pork and chicken, and definitely sushi, that I have ever had! Friendly service, clean restaurant, and a very central location! Thanks again tong lok claremont for keeping our tummies very full and very happy! Until next time (probably next week) keep it up.
