Review Mugg & Bean - Claremont

10/10 everything! Shout out to our waiter Walton, he was amazing. I highly recommend having the Big Ben.
Roseline Kolony
Nice comfy location to get work done featuring their bottomless hot chocolate. The jerk chicken rice salad meal I had, was a straight 10/10, and really affordable.
Chinita Olivier
Lovely having some breakfast for one, lovely waitress, great space and amazing options to choose from. As you can see I couldn’t decide..
Candice Henriques
Diane was amazing. Her smile, the way she handled my teenage kids asking them how their day is going, the service, explaining what’s in the ice coffee and just her entire vibe made our day! Thank you Diane! We had an amazing breakfast! R500 well spent!

Went there for lunch on 19 November 2022. We asked to be seated outside, so we had to go upstairs. Our waiter Cloudious was really friendly and helpful. We order lemonade, a coke and ribs and chicken combo. Note if you sit "outside" the kitchen is downstairs, which really isn't a problem. They were very busy but still delivered. I was full and didn't entirely finish the meal. The basting was a bit too much but overall doable. I enjoyed the service and will recommend them. Also they aren't expensive.

I had a pleasant experience here at Mugg and Bean Cavendish. The service was quick and efficient and the food was delicious. I’ll be coming back more often!

Went to Mugg and Bean for dessert and drinks. Enjoyed their bottomless hot chocolate and salted caramel hot chocolate. The muffins as usually were yummy and quite a generous portions. For an extra R10 we got some jam, cheese and butter. Overall was a good experience. The service was a bit slow even though it was so quiet. The server could have been more helpful.

Reception and service was great. Breakfast well presented a tasty. The menu has nice variety, for the hungry, not so hungry, health conscious, eat all, etc. Restaurant cosy and quiet early morning.

One of the staff members, Thulie recommended an awesome meal! The Veg & Chicken bowl. It was filling and light at the same time, as requested. Healthy as well. Her service was good. She is well informed and knows her job well. Very pleasant and helpful. Always with a smile on her face. The atmosphere could be improved during over an hour before closing time as the music is very soft and the staff is cleaning everywhere, including right behind me on the counter while I'm eating but other than that, I would be back to Mugg & Bean. A favourite restaurant.

It was really nice being able to have a vegan milkshake, I hope to see more options on the menu in the future where the food is concerned, but from the two vegan dishes I have had, I really enjoyed them

Lovely Atmosphere and Friendly staff. We did not receive Toast and only had one piece of Potato on the Omelet. However, upon providing feedback to the staff Stanley, he was extremely professional in his response and offered to compensate us for the oversight. Really appreciate the service, thank you!

I’m the happiest when I get to eat Mugg & Bean’s tomato soup!! It’s my favourite Cosy hot meal on a cold, rainy day!! Definitely recommend ⭐️ The service was really impressive, managers and waiters are friendly and energetic. I should not have chose the weekend because it was quite busy, we waited in line to get a free table! I guess this means that it’s a super popular restaurant on weekends ⭐️

10/10 would recommend. I had the spicy Moroccan soup which was really good. My waitress, Kelly, was simply amazing! She was really friendly and attentive…just lovely all round.

I felt so welcomed at Mugg and Bean in Cavendish Square. I went there to enjoy a meal while I caught up on some work. Margie was super attentive, warm, and friendly, keeping an eye on me and promptly refilling my bottomless hot chocolate to keep me going. She made me feel right at home, and I had a relaxing and productive afternoon. The food was delicious too. Thank you Margie!

Enough seating space to ensure you never wait. Food is great, staff are friendly. We were served by Jordan who went above and beyond during a busy Saturday 👍👍

Thanks for a amazing chocolate cake, and makes my birthday extra special 🎉😋🎉 Will always return ❤️💕

I went to Mugg and Bean in Cavendish with my parents, having just arrived from England, tired and cranky, but a young gentleman called Byron saw to us immediately. He was friendly, efficient, just all round fabulous. He is a credit to your establishment. Food was lovely, just a bit disappointed there was no smoked salmon option with the the eggs Benedict. Not really a complaint at all, so feel guilty moaning about something so petty! The food was amazing. I’ve lived in Italy and France as well and the cappuccino was just as good as any European country! Thanks for a wonderful breakfast. I will be back before I leave!

Hi. Was in there around 7pm tonight. Ordered two slices of chocolate cake and an iced hot chocolate and a peanut butter drink. The cake was a bit stiff, the iced hot chocolate tasted like water and there was barely marshmallow in that I could see, the peanut butter drink thing's cream was not to be seen, according to my boyfriend it tasted like just ordinary Milk. Really ruined my date night, wasted 193rand.

Was very disappointed... waited for ever for order, breakfast cold and not very nice... couldn’t finish it... took a doggy bag to give away.. first disappointing experience at Mug and Bean definitely won’t be back...

Counting money from the till on the food prep counters is unhygienic!!! Service is dreadful!

Had a great meal like the Share and Mix selection.  waiter  Johnathan gave awesome service.<br/>will visit again with the service we received.
Damian
Service was a bit disappointing. Waitrons seemed overworked or just not paying attention to all customers. Food made up for the lack of service. The California omlet was great. Mediocre coffee, though.

If I could give this place no stars, it would be too much. Don't waste your time.<br/><br/>Classic case of expectation vs reality.<br/><br/>Please refer photos attached.<br/><br/>Disgusting example of false advertising.<br/>

I love a good bacon, egg and cheese toasted sandwich. But wherever I go they can't seem to get it right.<br/><br/>Until now..... Thank u M&B Cavendish for making me the perfect sandwich. The egg was medium as requested and oozed out as I ate into the sandwich. Bacon perfectly cooked and the chips were really good as well.

Stopped for a quick coffee and waitress just assumed we going to have a takeaway, did not ask if we’d like to be seated and were waiting. <br/>Nevertheless we had out coffee which was decent and muffins which was dry and stale, as if it was baked the previous day. The taste was there but the texture wasn’t.

Service was great from the minute we entered the restaurant. Ordered a slice of chocolate cake and lemonade. I’m not used to going to Mugg&bean so I thought the lemonade would come in that glass bottle thing but unfortunately it came in a unusually large glass (I was not mad). The cake was fresh and delicious.

Just came for tea time coffee and we had ordered a hazelnut latte which was good.<br/><br/>The restaurant was busy, and the service was good.<br/><br/>We had also ordered sort of a pita pizza slice with sauces and that was a good snack as well.
Abdullahjaco1022
love the new simple menu. Our waiter was very helpful in terms of selecting meals. Mexican dishes have a real oomph. the sweet chilli dipping sauce leaning more to chilli than sweet.

This eatery has unfortunately declined over the years. I visited this branch to catch up with a friend over breakfast. The food was disappointing. My food was cold and greasy and my friend's chips were burnt. We waited long for our food to arrive and our waiter was rushing around so much making it hard to reach him. Very disappointing.

I've been to this branch a few times before and I'm never one to complain. The food was okay, average, nothing great. It was really busy, and the staff seemed flustered, but so many customers seemed displeased with the services. My dad ordered the quesdilla with some extras, it took rather long to arrive and they had left the chicken off. Furthermore, he had asked for his latte with the meal, it seemed as though the waiter completely forgot. If you just coming for a quick bite I'd recommend it, but if you're sitting down to enjoy your lunch I most definitely would not.
Adrian Kaplan
Breakfasts are fantastic but the lunch menu...oh my!! Burgers are greasy on stale buns. Chicken skewers - beyond disgusting. I wonder if anyone has ever had a good meal off the main menu? I'll just stick to breakfasts thanks.

Decided to have some dinner at Mugg and Bean as my boyfriend wanted ribs but I had to attend something at 8pm and we weren't willing to drive far. We were greeted by a wonderful friendly face named Sharon who swiftly brought us a jug of water, two glasses and two straws. The fact that she went the extra mile without us asking already meant the world! I ordered their mushroom sandwich and my boyfriend had ribs. I was paranoid that I would be late for my meeting but Sharon ensured me that my meal would be with my shortly- and it was. She also ensured that my boyfriend's meal was sped up so we could enjoy our meals together :). Our meals were both equally as tasty and cooked to perfection! We spoke to Tamara, the manager who was equally just as friendly and welcoming. After a tedious day of traveling from Johannesburg to Cape Town and receiving rather disappointing service from a restaurant at OR Tambo this morning, the service received today at Mugg and Bean was incredible! We are excited to go back tomorrow even if it's just for coffee.

I was not a Mugg & Bean fan. Husbo and I love going out for breakfast. Since we are in Claremont, Cavendish is the nearest when we wake up late and want an all day breakfast we usually go to Woolies Cafe. Husbo has been weaning me off Woolies and trying to get me to try new places lol. This is great for all day breakfasts. I am not a fan of the franchise food options so will say stick to coffee, pastry (croissant, scones, muffins) and egg breakfasts which they do well. Also nice that you can substitute bacon for Macon. Good value for money and plenty of options to choose from. Something for everyone. Agree with other reviews that said it's old and needs an update - luckily it is getting one as there is major construction on the way. Think it's going to open up on the street and be much bigger than before. Looking forward to the future but don't be surprised if you see tables all the way to Europa Art as there is a huge loss of space from the upstairs section being out of commission.

Decided to have a late dinner at Cavendish because I had had a lovely breakfast here the previous day. Our waiter was very attentive, I had a decent portion of the wings and ribs -filling but the winner of the night was their dom pedro best I've had!
Jana Van Rensburg
Well all the Mugg n Beans have the same menu and food is pretty much the same. Anyway... service was good, fast and friendly. Couldn't find anything wrong with the food. So was a good breakfast.

M&B in Cavendish Square has been around for a long time. We like going here as the food was always good. But this time we were bitterly disappointed.<br/><br/>We ordered two welsh rabites, and one arrived still raw inside. When we brought this to the attention to the manager, he said he would go and investigate in the kitchen what went wrong, but we never got an explanation. This was very disappointing, and I don't think we will be anytime back soon.
JotterJo
This M&B has been here for as long as I can remember. The interior is the standard but the chairs need replacing. They are so old and uncomfortable.<br/><br/>We ordered a Mexican Fiesta platter to share as we were hungry and tired of shopping.<br/>The quesadilla was good.<br/>The chicken kebabs dry.<br/>The chilli poppers were drenched in oil.<br/>The chicken winglets were undercooked and bloody at the bone. (We sent them back to be cooked properly & got them back practically burnt)<br/>The nachos were good (but they come out of a packet)<br/>The sour cream, arvo was a teeny portion but good.<br/>The salsa was absolutely tasteless.<br/><br/>And there weren't enough staff so the order took ages. Such a pity.<br/><br/>BigJoe

Lovely cosy area upstairs and perfect chill place. Service tends to be slow and it is often that they are out of stock of scones and/or only have 1 or 2 flavours of muffins. I would recommend this place for cake and tea. Would not recommend for main meals as the food has disappointed before.
Lauren Dickason
The food is always good here and if you sit downstairs the service is normally good too. However I prefer sitting upstairs where it's quieter which apparently also means the service is inadequate.
Francesca Favero
Quite surprised to see that this Mugg and Bean has such a low rating as I have never had a bad experience here. Their vegetarian benedict (my favourite thing on the franchises' menu) was cooked just as well ast any other branch. Service has always been good too. I enjoy sitting upstairs as this is a lot quieter (if you need to work, or just want to have a quiet space to chat with a friend) and surrounded by all the banks upstairs.
Sara Krunic
The food is always pretty good there but the service is shocking, I had to wait just less than an hour to get my food which was not impressive to me. Not a bad place to eat at all, the service should just be much better!
Chanel Pillay
Over the years I have become less impressed with Mugg & Bean as I find their meals to not be very satisfying and poor value for money. <br/><br/>Recently we had a group project that required a discrete meeting place and we decided to use Mugg & Bean. The service was almost non-existent as you find yourself waiting long periods of time for your waiter or you must wake up and go find him.<br/><br/>I will say, I did enjoy the Mocha.
Melanie Du Toit
Stopped here for a babalas breakfast this morning. The place was cooking but our waiter was very attentive an polite. The sauce on my Welsh rarebit could have used more cream as it was rather stodgy, but overall a good meal.

*IT'S A 'YES' FROM ME*<br/>Good coffee and good service. Even though this café is usually very busy, particularly on weekends, the waiters and waitresses are on their feet. The free WiFi was optimal for spending a good 3 hours reading and researching whilst enjoying their bottomless coffee. It was delicious and cost-effective too. R21.90 for endless refills is quite the bargain!

I decided to go this morning to Mug and Bean in Canvendish and i was the third time disappointed their muffins was not baked properly and when i complained about it the waitress brought me another muffin which again was no baked properly. The only thing i enjoyed was their cappuccino, their service is extremely slow and they were not busy at all, and when i needed to pay i waited about 15 minutes for my bill then another 10 minutes for the waitress to tell me i must pay in front with the card,  the service is really poor. I honestly suggest they get proper staff.
Danieljake
Chose to sit here for a couple of hours to finish off an assignment because I knew about their bottomless coffee and wifi (which is also 'bottomless' at this specific outlet). Nothing to praise, yet nothing to criticize about this specific outlet according to my experience here.
Azele Anne Naicker
I needed to pass some time and found myself in cavendish so I headed to Mugg and Bean to have some coffee and read. <br/><br/>The restaurant was quite busy and we decided to sit upstairs by the banks. The service was average and coffees were okay. I don't particularly enjoy their blends, but I prefer the mocca java.
Chetna Black
Sadly not as good as it used to be, but I still like to go back now and then as they change up their menu quite often which is refreshing. Breakfast menu is much better than lunch or dinner. French toast is good, and the croissants and muffins are nice. Restaurant could be kept cleaner and the service could be better.

Wow, Mugg & Bean used to be my favourite spot to indulge in baked goodies and decent coffee - what happened?! The food is below standard and lacks that "heartiness" which M&B used to be known for.<br/><br/>The food was not fresh and tasty. My matcha cappuccino was luke warm and my flatbread was so inedible and chewy, that I simply ate the side of chips. There was like two falafels that I ate - not authentic and wholesome at all...really drab, actually. <br/><br/>The waiter was pleasant, but a little absent-minded, because he seemed to forget about us from time to time.

I don't really like doing this but I just feel like I needs. It's the second time that we've eaten at the one in Claremont however, it wasn't great at all. I ordered myself an omelette with chicken strips, jalapeños and feta. I didn't enjoy it at all. It was wet and salty (really salty) not the best that I've had. My boyfriend had the backyard BBQ pretzel and he didn't enjoy it either. His pretzel wasn't fresh. It was soggy. Not the best of experiences I've had.
Zanel
I have always been a fan of Mugg&Bean, but after our recent visit I was sadly disappointed. My boyfriend had the big daddy burger and besides the onion rings being oily, enjoyed it. I ordered the brisket flat bread, but it was not pleasant and so sent it back, which is something I never do. Our waiter was very friendly and immediately seated us which was great, so not a terrible experience entirely.

This is head and shoulders the best Mugg and Bean in Cape Town. The food is tasty and well presented and the waiters are great ... I avoid the other restaurants in this franchise as they just don't stack up.
Ulisha Moodley
Mugg & Bean used to be a favourite breakfast/brunch spot for me but recently their service and quality of food has gone down. The presentation has also lost its charm. There's a few things I usually go for which includes the toasted chicken & mayo sandwich, the nachos and the m&b on the go. However whenever I've had them of recent they aren't as enjoyable as they used to be which is disappointing. I do hope this gets fixed as they are a good brand.
Jamie Jacobs
The service I experienced at this branch each time I've been there has definitely been a bit slow, more so when I've sat upstairs. However, the food is consistently delicious and with such a variety of options for any mealtime, it is definitely a go-to place for most. Breakfasts range from healthy to deliciously sweet. I appreciate the facilities to use your laptop, not many restaurants make these kinds of provisions. Lemon meringue cake was a bit hard to eat,and the cake did not seem very fresh. Hope next time I try it, I will not be disappointed again. Great place for brunch or any meal in fact.
JayRo
Just had the cheese cake and an iced coffee. It was good. Nothing amazing out of this world and wasn't the best cheesecake I've ever had, but the waiter was very good and the service was good.

Breakfast at Mugg & Bean has been a delight since my childhood 😊 I always enjoy the Rise 'n Shine croissant which is a chicken mayo, mozzarella, bacon (they always happily substitute bacon for mushrooms) and spicy onion marmalade filling. Paired with a Caribbean mocha- chocolatey, coconut heaven in a mug 😍 I'm also very fond of the cinnamon cookie dough hot chocolate and I used to like the chocolate chai when it was first on the menu but I now give it a miss because it doesn't taste the same. The service is always fair at mugg & bean. Although the attraction to this coffee shop is always the smell of baked goods, I feel like the quality of their cakes has really deteriorated over the years and I never order the carrot cake anymore. It's dry and the cream cheese icing has changed. It used to be the best!

Delicious! With the exception of one time, the food is always great, we go there often, maybe once a month at least. Their iced coffees are amazing and their burgers are some of my favorites. Their pies and quesidillas are also some of my favorites. Most recently we had the banana and apple pie. I would definitely recommend it. Its a nice place to go for coffee, breakfast and lunch, and dinner has been good too. Portions are big enough to share and almost always absolutely delicious!
Bee
The most amazing salad! A new addition to the menu. Delicious sauce on grilled chicken with greens and green pepper. Highly recommended for those who enjoy spicy food! A spicy chai latte to top it off! Mugg & Bean

This branch has declined in food quality over the years. However today I was pleasantly surprised by both good quality food and friendly service. I had the sweet chili chicken burger which was great and my friend had a cheese and tomato sandwhich which she enjoyed. I hope the food quality and service (which has usually been quite friendly) continues this way.
Zimkhitha Sulelo
I went there for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake but when I got there I decided on eggs. I had the apple and banana cake with ice cream and it was delicious. <br/><br/>I then moved on to a Mexican scramble and I was so excited that I didn't see that it has ham. I had to take it back and the manager had no issues at all with that. She even offered to replace my ham with mushrooms. Service was good and my food was good too.

Great spot tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Cavendish Mall's main areas, so is perfect for taking a break during a shopping spree :) The service was quick and friendly, and the iced coffee delicious!
Teresa Cosentino
Yum yum yum ... :) <br/>

Mugg and Bean in my opinion used to be quick, easy good value for money - 5 years ago! Now I'm always hesitant to go because the food is a little hit and miss! Today our food was actually great but the service could not have been any slower. The cavendish one can be slow because it's really busy but even with that in mind - today was a little outrageous.
Teresa Ulyate
A convenient place to stop off and recharge when you are doing your Cavendish shopping. Cheerful service, piping hot drinks and always buzzing.
Trevor Pols
So a good place to enjoy a cappuccino while waiting for the shops in the mall to open... Or so I thought. However being that they are a "coffee" restaurant, I was very unpleased by their blend and product overall. The coffee was bland and weak, I ordered another shot of espresso to try and give it some kick but to no avail. Coffee rate is 4/10. I ordered a small breakfast which was a bit oily but and my eggs were over cooked but other wise it was "OK". Breakfast rating 5/10. But not everything about the visit was a complete disaster, my waiter was fantastic, very friendly and attentive. Won't go back in a hurry.
Tiyaarah Cloete
Decided to go for a quick bite, but I hadn't been in a while so the menu was rather confusing, the food was average not at all worth what I had paid and the coffee was bordering on disgusting. Extremely disappointed
Kauthar Kerbelker
Says on the menu soft and fluffy doughs of cinnamon rolls but tastes like dry old bread! Not appetising at ALL! And the staff are caught up in their own conversations than checking up on customers
Sophie Mamet
A good cup of tea and a muffin after some shopping!!!<br/>Everything on the menu is nice there! <br/>Sometime the service is a bit slow but it is fine!<br/>The upstairs part is very nice to be more cossy!
Tasneem Jakoet
A very popular spot in Cavendish. But, lets get this clear - you go there for the coffee, not so much the food.<br/><br/>They have an extensive food menu but what I've tasted before has either been under done, overdone or just downright bland.<br/><br/>However, the coffee blend is on point and the Belgium waffles are divine and always arrive warm! The lemon meringue and the cheesecake - well, those must be tasted! They have some tasty treats on the drinks menu, like the caramel popcorn frappe, odd combo but worth a try.<br/><br/>Service can be very slow at times but there's no faltering on the good coffee. They have a nice upstairs area, on the same floor as the banking area. This section is very quiet and makes for a nice business meeting spot.
Tammy
This place is always busy but you are helped and seated quite quickly. Good food that is well priced. Nice place for a quick breakfast or lunch.
David Carruthers
I have to be honest this isn't the first time I've been disappointed by the mugg and bean franchise, more specifically the Cavendish branch. Don't brand yourself fresh if you are unable to live up to the expectation. Don't sell a product that you are unable to produce. Don't bring me a second slice of dry chocolate cake from the same chocolate cake that I sent back... Don't assume that your customers don't know better. If you're going to charge forty five rand for a slice of cake at least make sure its fresh. Never again!
Suitcases And Lattes
Popular branch of Mugg n Bean that I've been frequenting for many years. Their service is usually good - understandably, sometimes slow when busy. I went there for breakfast and had the harvest scramble. It was bland so next time I would rather go for the Mexican scramble which is R1 more (and I would swop the ham out for mushrooms). Easy cappuccino is usually a winner.
D
I know I'm getting good taste food worth the penny here so this place will always be in my radar
Kesia Burdett
The waiting period varies but generally takes quite long. The poached eggs were made in a poaching pan (which I'm not a fan of) and when I had asked for them to be medium done, they have either given me rock hard eggs or a soft yoke with the rest of it undercooked. The staff are friendly and generally the food is good but I'm not entirely impressed. The coffees I have to say taste delicious. Not the nicest environment to sit in, due to it being situated in a crowded mall
Tarryn Bento
This branch of Mugg & Bean is fab, we absolutely love going there! I find the shops in Cavendish to be quite smallish (not sure if it's just a perception thing), but M&B feels spacious and comfy. There's also an upstairs area, which is firstly a lot quieter, as it's in the banking section of the mall, but secondly is great for ensuring there isn't a long queue of people waiting at any given time, especially on a Saturday morning.<br/><br/>The waitrons are always friendly and warm - we have never had a difficult or even mediocre experience there. And the quality of food is excellent. For the longest time, my fiancé refused to eat at M&B due to a poor experience he had at another branch, and it was this branch that convinced him M&B is actually really great!
