Review Nice N Spicy - Claremont

Mark Anthony Isaacs
Nice & Spicey is always a winner. Friday's is becoming a norm to order there as my family loves the lamb breyani. We have ordered for 20 people already and the food was awesome. All the curries are so tasty and the burgers are better than most take outs around as the Patty is home made. Well recommended and worth every penny.

Really good flavour! Although lamb Salome is a bit Pricey for the size. R100 for something I would not pay more that R70 for. Lamb bunny chow was great. Once again...R95 bucks! Just a question...would there not be a greater demand if the price was right?

Ordered 2 salomies. 1 veg, 1 beans. Had some samosas while I waited. Those are some of the best samosas I've ever had. I ordered the medium salomies, but there was nothing remotely medium about these. Almost 600 grams of yummy goodness. Highly recommend the food. Looking forward to trying the chicken and/or lamb next.

As a Durbanite now living in Cape Town, I can honestly say this has got the be the best tasting bunny chow I have had in years! I find them to be a bit pricey at R85 for a quarter lamb, but for me it was money well spent. The shop in small, but very clean with pleasant staff. The curry was not too hot... just perfect 👌🏼. I also tried their samoosas which were sooo tasty 😋. This is not just a take away, you also have the option to sit down either inside or outside.

10/10. Easily one of the best Chicken Roti's I've had, and the Masala Chicken Burger is next level too. Top quality food, a must visit!

An absolutely amazing restaurant, very affordable with good portions. The service was amazing and the food even more so. The samosas are insanely good, definitely gonna be back for more. The Lamb bryiani is exactly what you want, and the chicken burger is grilled so well, more restaurants should be doing it like them. The phrase " n spicy" is perfect, the right amount of heat that everyone can enjoy. P.s. get the chips!

Freshly fried samosas. This family run business will tantalize your tastebuds with homemade quality snacks.

Lamb curry was amazing! Pricy for a small portion but I can understand with the cost of meat these days. Chicken curry was on a dry side so wont try that again.

Definitely the best Durban curry ever. I've eaten there and the owner Lee is super friendly and the bunny chow both chicken and lamb is packed with flavour and curry leaves and spicy, just the way us durbanites love it. A really little gem. I ordered again today for delivery and was not disappointed, my chicken bunny chow was bursting with flavour, chick on the bone and melt in your potatoes.

One of the most tastiest and yummiest bunny chows (the hot was extremely strong, so i would do normal next time). The bread was soft and fresh. The chicken wings was another killer item. The guy that served me (think the owner) was very polite. Enjoyed everything we ordered, and will definitely be seeing us again 🤤

We've just enjoyed delicious lamb salomie and lamb & beans curry. Very good flavour with just the right amount of heat. The taste lingers long. Pricey but worth it. Will be back. Friendly service.

After residing in the area for more than 4 years and consistently commuting past this gem of an eatery, I could kick myself for not visiting sooner. Tasty, well portioned and superbly prepared meals, that exudes the love and hospitality one can easily sense upon being greeted by Lee, the owner and Coco, the sous chef. A pearl of a business indeed. Thank you Lee and team!

Definitely the best Durban curry I have had. Lamb roti was so tender and so flavorful. Can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu. Beef Samosas were amazing as well.

As a Durban Indian born and bred, I was so thrilled to see an authentic Durban Indian restaurant in my new neighbourhood. We tried their food today and they did not disappoint!!! Big portions, and the taste took me right back home!! The right amount of spice to give a lekker kick and flavour, but not kill you!! My only critique is that; the beans curry was a bit salty, the chicken curry was quite oily, and there were no salads or sambals included which is always expected with a good Durban curry. Thank you so much, we really enjoyed our meals, and will definitely be back for more.

This is THE BEST Curry not only in Cape Town but the World(I hope my wife doesn't see this lol)!! I don't mind spending money on quality and this is quality at its best. If I must ever be on my death bed I would want my last meal to be Lamb Curry from Nice 'N Spicy :)

This evening my husband and I finally decided to try this highly recommended mutton curry bunny. After reading the 5* reviews for months, I simply have to agree.. the curry was amazing, the mutton soft and succulent.. And the taste truly was *Nice 'n Spicy*... Well done Lee. We definitely will be back

The food is always freshly prepared. Great tasting curry with a kick. Got to make sure you are there before they sell out. Never had a bad meal from here

We have the lamb roti most of the time....most delicious. Nice n Spicy comes highly recommended indeed.
Sarah-Marie du Plessis
Sounded lovely, but first their phone is off, so I can’t phone through orders. Then I drive there, lights are on, people inside, but door locked 40 minutes before they said they close. Not worth the effort.
Andrew Mobbs
The best Lamb Roti in the Cape in my opinion! Consistently brilliant.
Brett Allen-White
Generous portions, deliciously spiced, highly recommended.

Neighborhood favorite 🤩 love the curries, samosas and new fave - tikka chicken yum yum. There’s always something that hits the spot when I have a curry craving or something nice and spicy 😃

Best chicken roti I I've ever had in Cape town... With a salad, a large can easily be shared between two adults... friendliest service from lee downs

Been here a few times. Its pretty pricy but food is good quality. Recommend the breyani and chili cheese burger. Just a little too overpriced to get on a more frequent basis but not bad for a quick curry in a hurry...
Supervundu
Meh, it's alright. Have had hit and miss experiences here, sometimes overly spiced food where the flavors battle each other out. It's alright if you really just need a quick chow.

So where do I even begin to start ?? Amazing not quite correct but absolutely PHENOMENAL . I have tried just about everything on Lee Downs Nice n Spicy menu and needless to say my all time favorite would be a medium lamb roti!!!! Probably my best , no wait , THE BEST curry I have ever had leaving me completely satisfied......... you are most certainly a legend Lee Downs !

For the past month or so I've been trying to sample a bit of everything from the menu before giving my review and I'm pleased to say my impression of the food has remained consistently good.

I've tried the bunny chows, salmomies and burgers and they've all been fantastic. Portions are very generous throughout and tasty everytime.

Had the best lamb bunny chows ever. Very tasty and prices were reasonable. The samoosas were also very good Have to go back for the legendary tripe and trotter curry and try the rest of the menu.

Found this little gem today after having heard about it and driven past often. The prawn curry is absolutely delicious and the 1/4 lamb bunny chow was outstanding value. Whilst waiting for our order, we snacked on the most amazing little samoosas which were so fresh and so hot!! Only one thing I am extremely disappointed about is that they are closed on Sunday's and Monday's! Will certainly be back! Amazing flavours!
Brandon Holmes
Upon glancing at the menu, the prices didn't look great at the start(in comparison with other curry places), so I refrained from ordering a lamb roti from them for a while until recently. Ordered a medium lamb roti and it was packed so full of lamb that I struggled to finish it on an empty stomach. Taste is great, but was far too mild for my liking(which is understandable considering restaurants do need to cater for the average palate). Very worth a try, portion size is amazing and the taste is great. Possibly also offering customers a hotter option would be awesome.

My go to Indian place when I yearn for the burn of something hot & spicy! Their own slogan is "say goodbye to bland". You certainly will!!

My all time favourite is their butter chicken with basmati rice and roti. It is outstanding. Their prawn curry is also excellent. Their is veg curry for the vegetarians. No Indian restaurant would be pukka without bunny chows which they offer as well. An interesting dish its their pulled masala sub which is enormous and very satisfying.
No order is complete without a few samoosas. Chicken, corn & cheese, potato or mince.

But remember; the food is happily HOT!
Kevin Brown
Great food, it really lives up to the name Nice 'n Spicy. Be ready for an awesome burn, I'm a repeat customer whenever I'm in area. Lee is always great, welcoming and friendly.

I've heard only good reviews about this curry take out place and that they have the best bunny chows in the Cape. Thought we'd try our luck and we ordered the following:
Bunny chow - amazingly good! Not dry not mushy just perfect with a lot of meat. Most places try and give you more sauce to compensate for less meat, not here!
Large Chicken Salomi - absolutely perfect, not that dry breast curry, it was like the meat was slow cooked and it fell of the bone and in it went into a salomi, the best chicken one I've tasted!
Large Lamb salomi, again I cannot fault it, and the rotis are nice a soft, some places give you thick wads of dough for roti's but Nice n Spicy gives you a soft and very full salomi
Prawn curry - you can buy rice or roti extra but we opted to have it on its own, The hubs had this one alone as I'm allergic and he said it was the best he has had. He is very critical so I'll take it that it was the real deal!
Mince samoosas - also good, not too much pastry really nice and fresh
Cheese and corn samoosas - I love cheese and corn but the Hubs not so much, but when he tasted these he said wow I actually love them.
Chicken masala burger - the flavours were amazing, nicely grilled and a great mayo too.
Their dishes are not hot, it has just the right spice and curry flavor, it does not leave your mouth burning at all.
Do place an order or get their early as once they are sold out they close, so you're ensured a fresh curry each day when they are open.
Will definitely go back to try the other dishes, well worth the money as you get a lot for your buck!

One of the best curry take-out joints in Cape Town. Expect authentic, aromatic curries that remind you of the food your gran would make and the service is truly great.
Shumso Abrahams
Lee Downs is an amazing cook. The lamb solomie is world class. The bunny chow is also highly recommended. Very tasty and spicy without burning your mouth or developing heartburn.
Conveniently located for getting supper on the way home
