Review Ocean Basket Century City - Century City

Hassana Elzein
Nice place, good ambiance and good food. The waiters were very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the grilled kingklip. The food was good but the meal could have taken more sauce, 1- because the sauce is delicious and 2- because the fish itself doesn’t have much taste. This was my first time visiting, but i would come back for a more accurate review

Very busy, very packed this time of the year. Wait in line to be seated. Waiter tried his best but was running all over the place. Food arrived 20mins later.

Ordered the lunch box meal and to my surprise it was very filling. The service was great and food was so tasty yum. Ocean Basket’s sauce never disappoints.

I went with my family for a pre Father’s Day dinner. The service was good. The place was buzzing. Waiters were quick and food didn’t take long to come out. Sushi was freshly prepared and platter was nicely spiced with Cajun. Overall we had a great time. Love the new look of the place it almost has the feel your on a ship with the ropes used

This morning I walked into Canal Walk to start my shift. And as I came down the escalator, I heard the most fantastic sound.... the worship song 'Alpha and Omega' being being sung by voices I can only describe as sounding like a Heavenly army of Angels. As I walked to my store, located right opposite Ocean Basket I realized their staff had gathered before their shift and were singing. The impact this had on me, and everyone who could hear it will never be able to be able to be explained on earth, but Heaven surely knows. I went over and met the manager responsible for this, Cassius. And I just want to say thank you Cassius for Blessing me and so many others this morning. I commend you and your staff for setting the tone for the day and starting it off by my opinion, in the best possible way. I pray that God will continue to Bless you and enlarge your territory Cassius, may your store flourish under your leadership and I believe your staff will see favour over their lives. This was an unbelievably amazing experience and I wish I had recorded it but it was too precious to waste time taking out my phone. Once again, I commend Cassius as a manager, a leader, and an example of a Godly man. I have always and will continue to support this store. Their food is phenomenal but so is their whole team.

The prawns in the Mediterranean sauce was delicious but the rice 🍚 for me was cooked well and it was cold

Always a good stop to enjoy a lovely meal and give those feet a rest after shopping 😋

Firstly I would like to thank the management and staff . We came with my family for dinner last night and my wife who is diabetic got a bit sick. The swift help I got from the staff and management was out of this world. Thank you so much. Glad to say my wife is OK. Thanks to Fatima who was our Waitress for being a fun and lovely person. All in all I can say I really enjoyed the whole service and experience will definitely be back for the garden salad 🥗 😋

We shared the platter for 2, which is lovely, but the portion is a bit small when sharing with an adult man. Their grilled calamari is always a winner. Recommend their new fizz drink available for summe -It's not too sweet and very refreshing.

Another very enjoyable meal at OB Century City. A great welcome and incredible service from Simphine. Keep up the marvellous efforts! Thanks OB, until the next time!

Commercial seafood and some meat dishes. Had sole it was ok and calamari which was also nice. Nothing special cold beers on tap which is nice after a hard day of shopping

Ordered a Mr D delivery from here. Food arrived fairly fast and warm. I had the hake and calamari combo which was a generous portion. The calamari was crisp and had a nice flavour but the hake did not have the nice crunch that I like from fried fish. It was actually bland despite adding lemon and salt. The fried sushi also lacked crunch but tasted ok. It’s decent value for money.

You can never go wrong at Canal Walk OB- the people are great, service is outstanding and the food is even better. I visited OB on Sunday afternoon, it was full to capacity but the host and waiters made every effort to ensure we got a table sooner than expected. Deepak was especially efficient, very friendly and always around to assist. Highly recommended.

We arrived here just after the mall closed, the restaurant was full and we had to wait but not long at all.
We always love the complimentary rolls and it's such a thoughtful touch.
We ordered the inhouse platter for 2 which is basically the same as the platter for 2 but its got calamari heads stuffed with feta and I must say that was the absolute highlight of my meal, but I do love feta so maybe I'm bias.
The waitress had a another lady with her that was in training, they were great and super friendly. Even cracked a few jokes, which I personally loved.
We did order the fish to be fried and it came grilled but that didn't change how amazing the meal was all in all. Would definitely return there.
A bit pricey compared to other fish places but totally worth every cent.

While I’m not a great lover of seafood I do occasionally like to indulge In something other than red meat or chicken. Those are the days I go to Ocean Basket in Canal Walk.

I really do enjoy anything they serve and I think I’ve tried just about everything on the menu.

This place is always busy and buzzing with patrons. Despite this service is excellent and the food is ready pretty quickly.

My favorite meal is the prince prawns with rice. It’s large enough to satisfy my hunger without busting the seams of my purse. I also like the mussels with garlic butter, it’s delicious!

We were a bit reluctant to stop by for lunch...the emptiness of the restaurant was a little concerning as it was lunch time.

Was a good move to stay though...the service was great and the orders came through very quickly. Would highly recommend the flavoured pink tonic lemonade to share for the table.

I received the warmest welcome I haven’t received in a restaurant in a while. The prawns are always good and I was particularly impressed with the tomato fish soup. It’s nice to have a winter menu and looking forward to more evenings there.

After dining at this branch after a very long time, I must say their service went down but their new decor is lovely.
We got our appetizers with our main meal. The starters we ordered didn’t even arrive and we reminded them to take it off the bill, not even remembering we ordered the starter. The chocolate milkshake was like vanilla milkshake and when my partner complained that brought it back way to sweet again. However the platter was on point. Amazingly delicious.

A bit of a mixed experience.
Busy at the time of visiting.
Food from order to the table took a bit of time but the conversation at the table detracted from this.
Ice arrived at the table in a warm glass?
One of the Fish and Chips dishes, the fish was cold and had to be sent back to be warmed. This was done with no hassle.
Service was average due to the busyness....
As I said really mixed experience.

Similar to the Sea Point one, a very good Ocean Basket, nice Kingclip and veg! If you do not mind sitting in a mall then give it a try, have some ice cream for dessert

I enjoy visiting the Ocean Basket in Canal Walk mainly because even with a very busy and packed to the brim restaurant, the service from waiters are top notch and my delicious seafood arrived timeously.
They recently had a rebranding giving it a fresh and modern look.
Food never disappoints and I would definitely recommend this OB to anyone.

Sad to say that this franchise is slowly losing the good stead it forged previously as a reliable go-to seafood restaurant. The calamari gets more rubbery each time, the only line fish they can offer is Angel fish or a substitute of hake. The prawns are not like before. Prices keep increasing as quality dwindles. The franchise needs to relook at justifying the terrible quality of product they pushing out! No longer a place to visit on my list!

If you're in the area, I would definitely recommend this Ocean Basket over the one in N1 City. My usual platter for 1 didn't disappoint, nor did the service. It's no wonder this place is always full and Cape Town Fish Market is always empty.

We had a late family lunch here before doing some shopping. The restaurant is open plan and surrounded by clothing shops in the mall. When we arrived we were told to go queue from the Edgar's side entrance. The place was PACKED so we had to put our names on the waiting list. We luckily only had to wait about 10 minutes before we were seated.

To eat we had a combination of fried haloumi (starter portion), calamari and prawns (with chips and rice) and sushi. We had a combination of salmon California rolls and fashion sandwiches, prawn California rolls and prawn nigiri and the new lemon salmon rolls. Regarding the latter, I do commend them for trying to expand their menu and fuse Mediterranean elements with traditional sushi. The sushi was okay. The rolls had a lot of rice in them and for the lemon salmon rolls specifically, the lemon flavor was very mild and to be honest it tasted just like a normal salmon California roll. The seafood dish was great and well cooked as always. I love the sauce served with the calamari (and the mussels too but unfortunately we didn't have any that day). The halmoumi cheese looked like it had been fried extra crispy but tasted great - not too salty and good texture.

Our server was super friendly, chatty and made us feel at ease. He was very attentive with us the whole time and fixed the 'no-ice' glass issue quickly. Impressive considering how packed the place was.

The quality and consistency of the meals here are always good. The sushi is also well prepared and I love the way they try and expand their selection.

The staff is friendly and for an open plan restaurant in a mall, the restaurant is clean and tidy.

We were conveniently in Canal Walk and therefore decided to have a late lunch here. Even though it was between normal lunch and dinner time, the restaurant was relatively full, but the food was served in no time. I had the fish and calamari combo - the fish and calamari was good, but the stirfry vegetables oily. My boyfriend had the platter for one and I had a taste of the mussel sauce which was deliciously creamy. So not a bad option when shopping.
Natalia Van Eck
Food was okey and a bit raw the taste of it was not 100% nice seafood taste.
The staff was not so friendly and helpfull.
Overall I prefer going to Ocean Basket in Padocks.

Always a great option for lunch in Canal Walk. The service is spot-on and the food won't disappoint.
Quite a nice place to introduce a little kid to sushi :)

Ocean Basket is always a solid predicable place to go for decent fish. Their sushi is a great portion wise and when I go I always have a platter for one and I'm seldom disappointed. The lemon butter sauce does seem to change from store to store and is either super creamy or more of a lemony oil. I this this particular branch has it right. The service is good and everything is "you get what you see" thanks to the new menu lay out. I'm also a fan of the pink lemonade. My only critique is the sweet tooth section - I have always found it a bit meh and processed. Stick to the fish and the sushi for a good solid meal priced extremely well for what you get.

Decent meals and service on par with other Ocean basket franchises. Service was friendly and no complaints on the meals. Ample seating space so we didn't have to wait. Still a good family option that is easier on the pocket.

I've been here many times over the years. It's never been the best, I was seriously disappointed a few weeks back when I actually left feeling sick both my friend and I both didn't feel well actually. I hope they can redeem themselves. They also have really bad service. I just don't feel the need to visit this branch any longer

I met friends for a Sunday lunch. The staff was friendly and accommodated us with our two young ones, two prams and heating baby food. Our waiter was knowledgable about the menu, our order did not take long at all and was very well cooked.

From a food perspective this is one of my favourite ocean baskets
It really never let's you down
Only thing here is you have to understand its not about ambience, the place is extremely busy and the waiters are in a rush to turn tables fast
So if you are shopping in Canal walk and need a bite to eat- great choice. Just don't bring a bunch of people here for any special occasion
Jana Van Rensburg
This is by far my favourite OB. The staff are always friendly and the service is extraordinarily quick. I have never had a bad meal here. We always have the calamari with veggies and the prawns and veggies.

Funky greek tunes pumping through the restaurant, friendly attentive waitstaff and fresh fish and veggies. We didnt even wait 5 minutws after ordering and food was brought to the table. Why wouldn't I love it here :-D

Now this is what I call food! The food was cooked to perfection. I had the Fish and Calamari combo. The calamari was delicious and plentiful. Definitely 10 up compared to Mitchell's Plain.

Seriously! What a bad end to an okay night. The waiter needs menu training, ESP regarding the drinks! He also needs to listen to customers. The food arrived as requested & seriously looked amazing, until we realised it was cold. He never came to ask if everything was okay... The waiter had a great smile, which means nothing when you don't communicate you don't understand! Does not help to say after the orders arrived that 'I don't drink...' And when the kitchen delays your Don Pedro & then mixes other Don Pedro's previously made from the table behind you, that is disgusting! Always loved this place, doubt I'll go back. Doesn't help that I worked for this group many years ago, so I know what should happen behind the scenes. #Fail

Arrived here just before breaking our fast and I must say that given our situation, the waiters were well informed and they accommodated us perfectly.

We ordered the platter for one and the prawn and mussel combo. Although not receiving any starter upon arrival, the food arrived in due time and the quality was not flawed.

Aside from waiting a while, which is understandable given that it was during Ramadaan, the food and service was of spectacular quality. One of the best branches yet.

Never had any real complaints with Ocean Basket. Staff are friendly enough and what I would expect it from mall shopping. I mean it's not fantastic, but it good.

I've actually gone off Ocean Basket as I find the quality isn't the best and frankly there are far better places in Cape Town.

My mom and I had lunch at Ocean Basket today. We have always been fans of the lemon butter sauce served on the prawns. Today we had lots of prawns as well as the Pick of the Ocean Platter. The food was fresh and tasted good. The wait for our meal was about 30 minutes which was quite long even though they were very busy.

The only problem we really had was the waiter who was rude and spoke down to us.
Jamie Jacobs
The sushi specials are always great as you get a great sharing portion for a decent price. I enjoy how they use different sauces on the sushi and the service at this branch is always on par. I always go here on my way out of Canal Walk or as a pitstop whilst shopping. Can't fault the food and they have some nice new drink options too.

Came to this ocean basket for dinner as it was not that busy. We all had the fish and chips which were divine. Huge portion of crispy fish that just melted in your mouth. One of the best ocean baskets in capetown!
Bobby Louw
The best ocean basket i've gone to! Great service and even better tasting food! The waiter even went out of his way to secure and cover up our trollies. Quality!

You can't go wrong with Ocean Basket. When we arived we were greeted by a hostess she quickly found us a spot in the busy restaurant. We were then introduced to our waiter who brought our bread and butter with forks... (we did received a knife a bit later) We had a sushi selection and I ordered the prawns special with a side of salad. The sushi was really great everything was fresh and my prawns were perfectly seasoned and sauced. Can't wait to go back!

We decided to go to canal walk at 8:30 to skip the rush hour shopping traffic and what a brilliant idea. when we were done we decided on lunching at ocean basket. We arrived at 10:50 and they told us the kitchen only opens at 11 so we didn't mind at all, drinking while we waited. Had the white chocolate mocha for the first time. Its so delicious I had no idea what I was missing the entire time. It was so good my partner had one too. i don't think I need to rate the food. one can never go wrong with ocean basket :)

Last night we decided to take our family from Australia out to eat at Ocean basket, as they're always raving about how good the seafood is where they live. What a disaster! We were a table of 10, so yes I understand that it can be tricky to manage, but the service was almost none existent. Our food all arrived at different times over the space of 45 minutes, (all mains, no sushi or starters) which meant we all had to eat alone before our food went cold. Why they couldn't bring everything together I don't know? Surely this is expected!

Two dishes were sent back to the kitchen because it had arrived cold, and we had to place our drink orders three times with different waiters.

While waiting for our food we asked to see the manager twice and the waiter told us he was unfortunately preoccupied in the kitchen. Our family kept asking if this type of service was normal..

What an embarrassing experience.. I don't think we'll be visiting this branch again.

My meal arrived cold. Incessant ringing of kitchen bell was driving me crazy...took 15 mins for drinks to arrive. Milk in my cappuccino was burnt and couldn't drink it without scalding my mouth. Sparkling water wasn't chilled. Waitress was friendly though.

Lovely affordable sushi. Great new drinks menu-homemade lemonade yum 😋
And friendly staff 😊
I have always loved Ocean Basket, but I think this one is my favourite 💖

My personal favourite is the grilled hake with rice. The complementary buns are a nice touch. For dessert, the cheesecake is a good choice.
Adrian Kaplan
I've never really had a bad meal at an Ocean Basket! My favourite is the pick of the ocean platter for 1. It's great value for money and always fresh. I ask for the chips to be made crispy and they always oblige.
Simone
You can never really go wrong with good old Ocean Basket. Everything is always fresh and the garlic butter sauce is perfect. This particular branch always has great service and friendly faces. We come here often for supper after work

Oceans Basket is celebrating there 20th birthday today and they have a R20 hake and chips special running all day. I could not resist so here I am eating my portion of hake and chips and wow it is well worth it. It was fresh and a good sized portion that quickly filled me up. I was surprised they were not that full but alas it was great and happy birthday to Oceans Basket
Liezl
Lovely dinner with my favourite, at my favourite (seafood place)
The hake and calamari combo, cajun style, was so awesome. Cooked to perfection.

Always have great service at this ocean basket. My favourite is the platter for 1 and everytime we go we always order fashion sandwiches. I dnt advise people to go to ocean basket for sushi though. But their palters are really good. Also something thats not on the menu but is available is Saganaki. Its calamari tubes stugfed with feta cheese that just oozes out as u bite into it. Delectable. The 3 way calamari is heavenly too. And service is always tops.
Jaco Bezuidenhout
Definitely not worth the price. The shrimp i got was so small, i barely had anything. half the pan was just chips. The difference between the picture on the menu and what i got would shame anyone.
Alok Ranjan
Yeah, i keep coming to this place again and again whenever I am in Cape Town. They are one who have perfected the art of cooking fish and presenting in best way. I am big fan of the pan and fish combination. They are my favourite. The fish is always fresh and cooked to optimal beat. Love this place
Lexi Pauli
I have yet to have a bad meal here. The service is fast and the staff are friendly. The food is always fresh and incredibly tasty, grilled or fried. Portion sizes are good as I always struggle to finish my chips. Definite value for money and a pleasant night out.
Krissy
I highly recommend Ocean Baskets platter for one (this can be shared). There sushi and salads are GOOD too :-)

I always have great service at the Ocean Basket in Canal Walk and will continue going there. The restaurant is quite noisy because they are very popular and busy during lunch time and supper time.
