Review Hemingways Restaurant & Wine Cellar - Centurion

Excellent restaurant. The lamb shank and the kingklip dish were fantastic. Very good flavors. The service was excellent. I feel a bit of moroccan type music would have improved the atmosphere. Other patrons were very loud, and our neighbor was having a conversation on speaker. No, really? We ended with an extremely tasty baked custard. Good wine selection. It is very much worth a visit.

I've always wanted to try it, but it only happened now, and it's a real find! It has an ethnic décor with a Moroccan-style interior and exterior. Beautiful ❤️ Excellent food and service. I ordered Crumbed Chicken Breast (super soft and creamy, yum yum) and Flat Bread Butter Chicken (*this one was also very tasty, except the flat bread was tough and chewy, kind of hard to cut and bite). For the drinks, I ordered Richelieu and Blue Lagoon. It was a very acceptable price🍹🍸 Be back soon!

Truely an exquisite experience. Service was excellent, the dishes are well priced & they have a extensive wine list. Will definetly be back & can highly reccomend this restaurant. Perfect setting for a date night

Started off with their draught and a cool breeze crush. We had the chorizo and feta stuff calamari for starters. Had to say I was underwhelmed and the flavours had too much going on and just didnt taste that great. For the price I would definitely not recommend it (R225 for a starter!) For mains we had the lamb shank and the wild mushroom tagliatelle. Had to say the lamb was fall off the bone, mash was nice and fluffy and green beans cooked perfectly. The pasta was good as well, except would have probably swopped out the walnuts for pine nuts if I cooked the dish myself. Service was good seeing that the restaurant was very quiet when we dined. Overall satisfactory experience. Would recommend giving this place a visit if you around. Have to say I expected more of a Moroccan vibe and decor but was a bit bland it terms of the decor.

Whan an absolutely amazing experience!! Matilda and Annie were such amazing staff who catered to our every need. The Salmon was literally the best I've ever had. We've already booked our next outing at Zagora and simply can't wait.

Absolute gem! Stunning place, atmosphere and best of all great food. Best of all you can fine dine at reasonable prices. Wine selection also very impressive 👌. Will return, soon!

We had a very romantic anniversary dinner at Zagora with the best food and wine. The service of the waiter Lovemore was exceptionally good. The attention to detail of the table and food is out of this world. I cannot fault on anything from the food to the service was next level. So if you want to spoil your partner or anyone look no further this is the place to be.

Dark Chocolate Fondant with Orange Ice Cream Brulé, Orange Segments and Brandy Orange Sauce. Delicious!

This was a go to ace when my wife and I started dating 7 years ago. We loved coming here time and time again. Then life happened and we got too busy to return, so 5 years later we returned for my birthday and I must say....the food the service and the venue still hit home for us. We absolutely loved our supper and the service was just awesome. Keep up the great work. We will definitely be back soon.

What a great experiance. They have an awesome atmosphere from the gate, through reception and all the way up to the Zagora Restaurant. Even the bathrooms are gorgeous. We really enjoyed the restaurant. The waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable. The cocktails were very tasty and well priced. I've never thought about mixing snails and phylo pastry, but wow, you really make it work. The butternut soup with apple in is also a winner. Will definately join you again.

Been here for dinner and breakfast. Their food is amazing... All dinner options are made to perfection... The breakfast buffet was nice too but I would suggest going on the earlier side as the eggs felt a bit dry (we did go late so not complaining)

A very nice place to treat yourself for a special occasion. It is a bit pricey, but the portions were good and sooo delicious.
Arnold Petersen
The food is divine, the service is good, the decide is absolutely gorgeous however it's a nightmare to book a table, it has been thier only downside as the website has numbers that goes to the hotel and I called today 7 times and still didn't get through to the restaurant, I don't think they figured out the proper way to manage this place

Food was great. A small misunderstanding with our booking. Venue is exquisite.

Great food! Fantastic service! Beautiful setting! Definitely recommend

We had our anniversary at Hemmingway's and yet again we loved it. The food was Devine and our waiter Michael was amazing and really made our night special with his fast service and bubbly personality. Our glasses were never empty and the food was ready quickly. At the end we received a dessert with "Happy anniversary" written on it. Its the small thing that matter. We have never had bad service or food and will definitely be back. Keep up the impeccable service and food.
Cassandra Gouws
We made a reservation for our 3 year Wedding anniversary (P.S. We got engaged here 4 years ago). The evening was amazing! The food, wine, staff and atmosphere was fantastic. The evening ended with such a special surprise dessert with a personalized “Happy Anniversary” message. Thank you.

Hemmingways was ongelooflik!!!!!! Van verwelkoming tot die groet was alles puik!!!! Die diens, die kos en ook die romantiese klavierspel. Ons sal dit beslis aanbeveel vir almal in Centurion. Dit was absoluut fantasties!!!!!! Baie baie DANKIE!!!!!

Very good service, great presentation on food. Nice wine selection, priced average for this sort of more posh, upmarket restaurant, well worth a visit!
Elfride Kotze
As always a great experience. Enjoyed the food and wine pairing. Best of the evening was the seafood bisque. The desert was great but the iceream on this occasion had some ice crystals in it which detracted from the wonderful baked toffee caramel fondant.
Dineo Sebola
The presentation of the food was original. The place is warm with energy. I got to nibble each of my family's food... everything was perfect for a birthday lady. The dessert, OMG!!! We'll definitely come back for more
Altie Willers
Excellent service from William our waiter. I have ordered the Pork belly and it was delicious. My children took me to Hemingway's restaurant this week for my birthday and we got the best service from a restaurant in years.
Lilly Enslin
Definitely one of my new favourite restaurants! Every course was amazingly tasteful and beautifully presented! The chocolate fondant is a must! Excellent and friendly staff and a stunning atmosphere! Loved it!

Went with friends for the Restaurant Week Special...what a great experience...Michael was our waitor and he was great made us feel right at home. The food was great...I had the snoek starter...but my favourite was the seared Salmon main...oms the best I ever had...I love seared salmon but not every restaurant can make it...but this was definitely the best ever...I am in love! We met the chef...Shaun. And the wine was great, we had a bottle and 2 extra glasses. Even our men loved it...and it was enough food for them.
Raymond du Plessis
Went for lunch today. Waited 15 minutes for two sherries. Then order taken. Ten minutes later.... ehhhh sorry but no hake. Ok then grilled sole. Five minutes later...ehhhh sorry no sole. Ask for the manager. The assistant chef arrives. Insist on the managers attention. Very sheepishly apologises that it not that easy to get fish. Thirty minutes plus in order to really get nothing bar two sherries. Siestog!

I was very dissapointed at my first and probably my last visit to Hemmingway's. It was my 7 year Anniversary so I had two special requests, one was the private room and the other was to serve my husbands repaired wedding ring under a closh before main course is served. The private room was booked out to someone else and the ring was served on a plate with no closh to cover it to emphasise the reveal and surprise. We waited 20 minutes before a waiter introduced himself and take our drink order. We had to call our waiter on a regular basis when we needed anything and the food took a long time from when ordered to being served. I must say what I had planned to be very special, Romantic and memorable didnt turn out so great and mostly due to the bad service. When I made the booking I was asked if it is for a special occasion and if I have any special requests, if they offer one the opportunity to have special requests they should be able to execute it. The sad part is the food was very good and had the service been great, we had the private room and my one request was executed as asked, it would have been an amazing experience.
Andre Lourens
The food was of the highest quality and taste and service was top quality. Here I need to single out Michael that made every effort to make our evening extra special. Will return to Hemmingways for a special celebration very soon.
Theresa Bredenhann
Cedric our waiter was excellent. We celebrated my Nans 80th birthday here. Staff were really great.
Adri Kruger
Had as always the best meal and best service in Pretoria, well in Gauteng!

Centurion's top Restaurant gone to the Dogs, I have never been more disappointed in a Restaurant before.

This used to be one of the best places to go to, went through for lunch today with a family member and received an awful taste in my mouth from the poor quality in service and disappointing food.

Whoever the food critic is that gave the raving reviews about this restaurant should defiantly revisit the restaurant again to see what a slam it has become.

From the dirty glasses to an insect on the complimentary condiments which could have still been foreseen however when it came to the main courses this had to be given a one star.

As seen in pictures I ordered a Ribeye Steak medium to well done and received a rare Steak.

To make matters worse my cousin's meal (Roquefort Rump) did not have the red wine jus in it.

Really, guys, you'll have lost the standards I could have maybe given you'll some understanding if the restaurant was busy but taking into account that we were the only two people there, I really don't think there can be any accuse made.
Charmaine Rautenbach
I took some foreigners for a nice dinner in centurion and based on the good ratings I chose Hemingway’s. What a disappointment and embarrassment for our country. They were out of almost all fish on the menu. The wine cellar, which they supposedly have won prizes for, was empty and no wine available from the wine list. The food took two hours and was ok at best and our waiter disappeared never to be seen again.
Katherine Rutherford
We went as a big group this evening. We had booked well in advance. What a horrible disappointment this place was. The following went wrong:
1. They had run out of large bottles of still and sparkling water, 3 whiskeys we asked for and gin. The wine cellar was also really bare.
2. It was really hot so we asked for the aircon to be switched on and were told it has not worked in ages.
3. Despite the restaurant being practically empty, we had to get up 3/4 times to get service.
4. After we had ordered it took over an hour to get our food even though we followed up several times.
5. I personally had the pork belly. The menu stated it came with bok Choi and an array of other things. All it came with was some kind of smashed potatoes. The pork itself was dry and tasteless - although the crackling was crispy - the one redeeming factor
6. We asked to speak to the manager. Eventually someone arrived about 30 mins later and said the GM was not there and please to put our complaints in an e-mail so that they could get more staff
Steve Holliday
Friendly and efficient staff with a focus on service. We were there on a Tuesday night (they’re closed Sunday and Monday) and our only disappointment was that some popular items on the menu were sadly not available.
Christine Crause
Similar to previous reviews. The food lacked seasoning. Very underwhelming. Service on the slow side. Some wine and port not available even when listed on the menu. Chocolate fondant also not available. Why would you then put it on the menu? Would definitely not be back.
Kat
Ordered a burger and prawn linguini pasta. Creme brulee for dessert was delicious. Very good food made and presented well. Attentive waiter. Quaint restuarant ❤ Loved the decor, setting and beautifully soothing music.

Hemingways provides good food coupled with a pleasant warm atmosphere that's always a treat. The Calamari and Chicken Parmesan was tasty and cooked to perfection. The service was good. I would definitely be back with friends for a pleasant evening.
Radha Chhita-Nathoo
Such a pretty restaurant. It gives off a fine dining cafe vibe. Decorated with fresh flowers, very polite staff. Great menu selection. Amazing pasta. Simple food made beautiful.
Andre Breytenbach
I wasnt overly impressed I'm sorry to say. Serious lack of service everything you have to ask for twice. Party of 20 no serviettes , no salt and pepper , you want a beer ask twice and so on. Food was generally just ok. My steak was one lump of fat and way undercooked. Calamari starter so so. Everything lacks seasoning and lack of on the table didnt help much. Stuffy inside no aircon .
Chrizelde Pienaar
Went for my husband birthday, very nice place, food was good, i feel its a bit overpriced, for the amount of food you get, but a lovely place.

We had dinner for my brother’s bday on 8 Aug 2018. We were a big party.
The service was absolutely perfect with the waiter taking care of us very professionally.
Good Wine list.
Awesome food menu.
Presentation of food exceptionally good with the taste (at least mine) even better.
Only complaint was the food took quite long but I am sure it had something to do with the size of our party. Some had to wait while others were eating. Plating should be all together.
BUT will always come back over and over and highly recommend the place.

18/07/2019 (1*)
Friends invited us for an anniversary dinner at Hemingways. I’ve been to the restaurant before (I had a good experience) and on a recommendation, they decided to visit the establishment for their anniversary. We were shown to our table and we started to have a look at the menu while placing our order for drinks. Since they ran out of a few things on the menu, we decided not to order starters. After the drinks arrived, we ordered mains:
- Pork Belly served with honey & mustard sweet potato and butternut purée (7.5/10)
- Men without Women Pizza (7/10)
- To have and not to have Pizza (7/10)
After we enjoyed the mains, we placed our order for dessert.
After an hour, we tried to get hold of our waiter to find out what is happening. He tried explaining that there was an issue in the kitchen and the desserts will be out soon (not sure why there was no feedback in between). When the desserts arrived:
- The fondants were as dry as can be, ice cream melted
- The panacotta I ordered was more like a mousse, ice cream also melted.
- The creme brûlée was ok
The evening went down south very quickly and resulted in patrons who will not return to this restaurant.

30/06/2018 (4*)
On invitation, we went to Hemingway’s for a session and lunch was served. Firstly, the service is top notch. We ordered the lamb shank and pork belly. The food arrived in a reasonable time with the wine ordered. I was impressed with the taste of the shank - well cooked and not tough at all. The mash which accompanied the shank was good too! The red wine topped it off nicely. Looking forward to my next visit.

We booked a Mother’s Day brunch at Hemingway’s, and were looking forward to their lovely meal. Unfortunately, without warning they moved all their bookings to another restaurant that served an average buffet. The service was terrible cause Hemingway’s did not prepare us prior to our booking. Thoroughly dissatisfied and disappointed

My friends hosted my baby shower here, what a stunning place with great food. Enjoyed it, and looking forward to going back for the whiskey tasting

Amazing food, atmosphere, and service. Would definitely go again. Roquefort Beef was amazing, our waiter went out of his way to inform us about dishes and help us choose.
Valentine Bilankulu
Cozy and cute place(esp. for showers). Service was great so was the cake. Food was fair. Might need to go again to confirm how I feel about the food.

Went there to meet a friend and I must say the embaimce of the restaurant is great! I was greeted immediately upon arrival. I had a truly fantastic fine dining experience the food was delicious however the waiter could have been a little more attentive seeing that it wasn't that busy also a few of the waiters would make inappropriate remarks towards me while i was waiting for my friend which I found a little uncomfortable and inappropriate

This was our first meal at this restaurant. We found the atmosphere to be distinctly lacking in ambience. The small side of bread was really delicious.
The two main courses consisted of pork belly and oxtail. The pork belly was outstanding succulent and crispy the only negative side was that the portion size was likened to a starter. The oxtail, well I think we would've been a lot better off the efficient service would've been some what slower so that the oxtail would've had a lot longer cooking time. This dish cannot be recommended. Not so sure we will be returning here at anytime.

Came here first time for restaurant week, and was very impressed. We live nearby but had never come. The ostrich carpaccio starter was below average (only reason it isn't getting a higher score!) and the beetroot jelly lacked flavour. The pork belly though - amazing! Crispy crackling, wonderful sweet potato mash. The chocolate mousse is delicious too. Service is probably the best I've received in years. Attentive without being intrusive. They even remembered us when we came for our second meal a few months later!
Sesh
A classicly styled and spacious restaurant, white tablecloths, dimmed chandeliers, dark wood accents and classical music playing background. We came for restaurant week and opted to do the a la carte menu.

Before starters you are offered some breads with butter, olives, chili and parmesan and an amuse bouche and before mains a palette cleanser. Our starters were the calamari and figs bruschetta. The calamari although cooked well layed in a lemony sauce that just missed the mark. The bruschetta simple in flavours and delicious.
Mains were the ribs and lamb rack, meats both cooked well. The sides of carrots, odd they were not peeled and greenbeans did not have the tops and tips snapped off. The chips were still hard though the dauphinoise pototo was good. All in all just average meals. The location of the hotel makes pricing above average. For a wine cellar it was odd there was no wine pairing options with meals and even though the menu states asks waiter for more wines by the glass options, there was only 3 options per type. We did skip dessert.

I must say I’m so disappointed the way I have been looking forward to this place, only to be let done by bad service which left a bitter tase. Our waiter was absent minded had to get up and call on him for things that he forgot to bring, and mind you we were not the only ones who were getting up to call on our waiter and the place wasn’t even full so I can only imagine what would happen if they had a full house. This then put a damp on the whole dining experience. The food however long it took to get to us was delicious I had the pasta my date having the oxtail.

This restaurant is quite a hidden gem .

The restaurant is quite sophisticated and fine dinning styled - with its tablecloths and dimmed chandeliers but i felt the setting at times a little cold as it does lack in bit ambiance - definatley ask to be near the fire place as it gives that extra little feeling of intimacy and warmth.

The food does not disappoint -the kitchen creates some exciting dishes as well as just turning out some great classics .I've enjoyed the Lamb here on a few occasions.
The staff are always so friendly and willing to cater to your requests so that you have the best possible experience- when you are stuffed from dinner but just have to have dessert they will make up a little dessert board selection so you can enjoy a variety of flavours . That alone for me is a win.

Hemingways team i salute you and thank you.

An absolutely awesome evening at Hemingway's.
Brilliant service , to die for food. Really a place to be.
Our waiter Cedric outstanding service to you Sir.
Will diffently call again. One of Centurion's gems I would even go to point of saying the Gauteng province at a whole.

The Food Musketeer
23.05.2017 I was invited to a foodie meet up at this lovely restaurant. Classy, elegant and stylish and yes it's in the Pretoria area.

Warmly welcomed on arrival by the staff and seated at our long table for dinner. To start we were given various breads to nibble on along with the usual Chilli, Butter, Parmesan and Olives. Fantastic start.

Then came the Amuse buche of Ostrich Carpaccio with Aoili. Unusual yet delicious and it set the scene for the rest of the meals to come.

Starters I decided to try something completely different that I haven't found on other menus. Duck Bitterballen. Wow probably the best dish of the evening for me. It had the right crunch on the outside with the smooth texture on the inside and it paired absolutely brilliantly with the Berry salad. It just oozed flavour.

For mains I ordered the Rack of Lamb with Dauphinoise Potatoes with Carrots and Green Beans with a Jus. My meat was slightly under cooked so I sent it back, and second time round it was perfectly cooked, I just wish it had more seasoning.

Lastly for dessert I opted for the Amarula Chocolate Mousse. I was very disappointed with this even though the Chocolate enrobing was superb. It was a let down interms of a Chocolate Mousse, let alone an Amarula one. It was ridiculously small, there was probably just over a teaspoon of mousse inside. I could barely taste the Amarula and for the price I don't think it was value for money at all. I felt like I was just given a thin slice of chocolate and you can see the size of it compared to my Lego mascot.

Regardless it was a lovely evening. That Duck Bitterballen did it for me and I'd happily go back for more. They also have a lot of events at their premises so check them out if you are a wine lover.

We are huge fans of Hemingways and was priviliged to be invited to a Zomato meet-up event a couple of weeks ago. It is such a beautiful venue, and with the classic white tableclothes and cozy leather couches and fireplace in the corner it is such a fabulous restaurant for a delicious dinner out. My foodie friends and I had a great time, must be one of my favourite nights out in a long time! The food, as usual, was simply scrumptious (my favourite was the duck bitterballen I had as starter), and the wine selection on par. Hemingways is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Pretoria - especially for special occassions. A real treat! Thanks for having us!
Janthinus Schrage
Pretoria as the capital has so little options to experience fine dining that fits one’s pocket. Hemingway’s Restaurant at Leriba Lodge is surely one of those little unexplored gems. Stepping through the doors at Hemingway’s you are immediately inundated with the sophistication and elegance of their table settings. I have a thing for crisp white tables and serviettes. Add to that service with a smile or even smiles. Waiters that caters to your every whim, friendly, available and their attention to the table was a good balance between overprotective hovering and the vanishing act. Being a special evening, we celebrated a birthday and man was this an amazing evening.

We were treated by amazing red wines from Doolhof Wine Estate and their range is ever impressing. The food was undoubtedly one of my best food experiences I enjoyed in a long time. Starters consisted of a beautiful Carpaccio served fresh with a Quails egg. Beautiful. Main course offered us a lovely crisp Pork-belly prepared to perfection. The plating and presentation is top notch and they surely know how to prepare their food. Dessert was equally impressive and the ever-classic Creme Brûlée did not disappoint! A sugary crunch with delightful light and creamy custard sent me to foodie heaven! Hemingway’s is a sure stop for amazing food and is a great catalyst for good conversation.

The Centurion area is busy with it’s own rejuvenation process when it comes to good food, restaurants and unique cuisine. Hemingways is sure getting it right. They are also a good venue for weddings, family events and they regularly host tastings and festivals. Well done guys, you won my tastebuds and I will most definitely see you again soon. Your new fan. So people, all I have to say is…. Go! Now!

We have been looking forward to having a top notch evening celebrating a friend's birthday-
we had a reservation for a table-
but uninterested we were shuffled off to a bar table-Highly agitated we asked for a table in the dining area I mean really we booked a table!
The waiter was terrible, grumpy and just not pleasant-
the drinks took forever-
Hoping that the food would make up for everything..... sadly it did not
Karabo Mokgoko
A beautiful restaurant, table was set beautifully for a dinner party. Lovely classical music playing in the background. The service was great, there was always someone nearby to assist, the staff is actually the coolest I've come across especially Cedric, he recommended and came up with the most awesome drinks for me since I don't drink alcohol and he quickly learned my name. Can't complain about anything because everything was on point. From starters to dessert, everyone was happy.

"We ate well and cheaply and drank well and cheaply and slept warm and well together and loved each other!" Ernst Hemingway ~ A movable feast.

We went to Hemingway's for our anniversary dinner and were truly impressed. This restaurant is beautiful and classy with a superb menu, extensive wine list and fab cellar.

It has an upmarket, cozy, warm and romantic feel plus the piano just adds that little something extra to the ambiance and feel of the place. Love the decor. Colonial meets modern...

The food was delicious... not cheap though but worth it. It's fine dining and the portions were enough for me but not for my husband. Palate cleansers in-between meals were also lovely.

So overall, our dinner experience was devine, the staff were super professional and friendly and the service just splendid. We will visit again.

Joie de vivre!

This restaurant is a gem, it's very classy and elegant and I must say it delivers all the time without fail. The service and the quality of the food is exceptional.
Lizl Hesom
Ambience and service very upmarket. Excellent wine list. The food was well presented but I unfortunately found it somewhat lacking in taste though.
Kim Vermaak
A stylish upmarket look in terms of decor. There are beautiful chandeliers and lovely hanging fairy lights. From a working perspective, I like that there is wifi. Another practical feature is that they have their own bathroom, so you don't have to use the center facilities. They serve a decent omelette. And tea is served in beautiful floral cups and saucers, then ideal setting for a high tea.

Last week we where hosted for a wine pairing, with Vergenoed wines.

The service was excellent, along with delicious food.

The starter: salmon with micro herbs, drizzled with a light buttery sauce.

The lobster tortellini was cooked to perfection! It was flavorful and well plated

The cheese and bread platters were well paired with a red wine.

The main course: dorado fish, served with fried potatoes, a warm salad.

The dessert a real winner, a deconstructed black Forrest chocolate squares, served with the perfect crumble.
The wafers where beautifully plated.

A lovely dinning experience!

Well we arrived for the piano recital on Sunday after booking on line to find there was no table available for us. We sat and waited for a table and when we were seated the show started and we were unable to order any drinks at all. At the interval I tried to order a drink and after mush josstling managed to get a glass of water for us each. After calling over the lady who seemed to be in charge we were assigned a waiter who then got list looking for menus for us. After much struggling we were eventually served and was I able to order wine which they did not have to be replaced by a bottle twice as expensive without informing me of the difference. We'll the four was awesome a d I would recommend this. As for the show I lived that too except that my table was near the entrance and the staff kept speaking inside the doorway which I found distracting to say the least.

This restaurant offers a truly French cuisine experience in the heart of Centurion. A true gem. Upon arrival at the establishment, my wife and I were greeted by a very friendly Liya, who was also our waitron for the evening. The warm and cozy atmosphere was an ideal setting for our dining experience.

We were seated in a romantic corner where we were taken away by this gastronomy journey. It started with a complimentary Amuse-Bouche (Tender ostrich on a potato dauphinoise). This was followed by our delicious starters, fresh oysters (flown in fresh daily from the Western Cape) and their Smoor Snoek Ravioli. Oh my, what a start. After the starters, we were spoilt with another complimentary dish, this time a homemade Peach Sorbet.

Our mains were the Braised Lamb Shank and Seared Salmon. The lamb was tender and served on a smooth potato mash, with fresh vegetables and a brandy and mint jus. My wife prefers a slightly cooked through salmon, so her fish was ultra-juicy, served on Peppadew risotto and julienne vegetables. This was paired with a wonderful Guardian Peak Shiraz, which complimented the lamb especially well. We ended the evening with the Dark Chocolate Fondant, served with cabernet and blueberry ice cream. This was a extremely decadent dessert, soft and moist cake with the homemade ice cream. Simply delicious. When we finished the evening, I had to compliment the chef, who was sent to our table. What a delightful young man. Even mentioned he is second in command and didn’t take the praise which was meant for the Chef.

This restaurant deserves the positive rating it received thus far. Everything was amazing and the dining experience was exquisite. I will have to say I have found by new favourite fine dining restaurant. I will most definitely recommend this restaurant. (Just a pity I cannot score it 10 out of 5)

An excellent experience all round! Each dish enjoyed by our group was a win. The wine list was broad and very well curated. The little palate cleansers in between each course were a lovely surprise, something I haven't seen in a while. All that wouldn't have made such an impression, however, without the highly knowledgeable and professional staff. What a great team!👌
Well done! I'll definitely be coming back with friends for a special meal out 😁
Mary J Wingrove
Wonderful dinner out! Four of us ate and we all loved our food. Healthy options available for those not eating carbs. Lovely setting with beautiful decor. Quaint but stylish. Excellent service! We'll definitely be going back.
Leandri
Loved it! Was a bit sceptical at first...very fancy restaurant. We went with friends for the restaurant week special...3 course meal. It was great...had the best seared salmon in pretoria. It was perfectly done...we had a great bottle of wine. Our men had the fillet with spinach risotto...was great.
Nickey Liebenberg
The food was very good, but what i enjoyed most was the friendliness of staff. They really went the extra mile, especially with my kids - even entertained them in the pizza corner and showed them the kitchen! Like the atmosphere, enhanced by the beautiful piano sounds.

Made a reservation for a friends birthday and boy, oh boy, was I impressed. Our server was brilliant and attentive. He really made our night special. The decor was very elegant and immaculate. I had a lamb shank which was well prepared, however on the salty side. There was a pianist performing. This is an ideal venue for a romantic dinner. Our evening was perfect. I will definitely be paying them a visit in the near future.
Jake
Was wonderful service. The food was very disappointing. And the ambience bland. I have avoided this place for a long time because the Zomato reviews didn't match the word on the street. This time the word on the street was that.
Samantha Bekker
You will find Hemingway’s Restaurant and Wine Cellar inside the grounds of Leriba Lodge. Its a beautifully decorated elegant restaurant. Great for if you're looking for a romantic evening out. The staff are really welcoming and very friendly, the service is really outstanding. We came for a wine pairing evening and had a wonderful time, the guest speakers where very informative and we loved that the chef came out and explained the food that was served. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Really Top Notch!

Hemingways... What can I say it pretty much lives up to its name! Ernest Hemingway what a legend and this place is legendary. From the moment you walk in service is beyond excellent. Our waiter Micheal who has been there since its opening in 2009 was such a great host and adviser. He knew what he was talking about. I ate the braised lamb shank with Apple purée, ratatouille veg and brandy mint jus... Soft to the bone, the meat literally falling off! Vegetables lacking but none the less amazing ;))) my friend ate the Seafood pasta - she was very impressed with the prawns, calamari & mussels cooked to perfection. Spices being very complimentary to the dish, the dish being perfectly sized and just great flavors. We opted to share the dessert Amarula chocolate mousse and Almond cheesecake. The mousse was not very moussy to my liking as it was always one of my all time favorite desserts. All and all the service is impeccable, great food very happy customer! If you live nearby do yourself a favor and try it out !! ;)

We were served by a lovely waiter! Great food delivered to us and was presented beautifully! Prices were reasonable and we will definitely be back!
This restaurant is set inside the grounds of the hotel. The best thing about this place was without a doubt the service. The food was good, had the pork belly which lacked a bit of flavor.

I always love when restaurants are decorated with an infusion of colonial, modern and industrial elements. Hemingway's nails the combo. It's a relaxing vibe, with a veranda, and two differently decorated lounges. The bar area with the copper and brick combinations with the touch of a sliding wooden library was my favorite. Don't get me started on the lighting as this will soon become a decor blog:).

My husband kept nagging me to go try this little spot, and I kept pulling it off as the shopping center is not so appealing, however this is one of the very few times he got to hear me say sorry that he was right.

I especially love the story behind the start of this restaurant, and I would recommend you go read it up, it's touching and you clearly see where the passion comes from.

The food is amazingly presented, with precise precision and attention to every little detail. The service is impeccable, and the product used are A grade and fresh.

I would score them 9/10, and I will never ever, ever judge a book by its cover again.

I am happy I tried them and I will continue too.

Lastly they were setting up for a party on the table behind us, and every little treat, cake and eat looked amazing. The decorated table was flawless. I will be contacting them soon to host a dinner party!

I will be back.

This is a very romantic french and fine dining restaurant in the heart of Centurion. The courses were very well presented with a palate cleanser as well. Their cocktails are absolutely out of this world.
We celebrated my husband's 30th and I do not regret my choice.

Light lunch yesterday at Hemingways after attending their yearly Harvest Festival winetasting/exhibition event. Superb eatery. We had some pizzas (definitely my new favourite place for pizza) and obviously some wine as well. They have an excellent wine selection and the ambiance in the restaurant is just perfect. Really good service from the staff as well. Will go back again and again.

Service was impeccable. Fantastic selection of wines and the food exceptional! Very few restaurants still give palate cleansers between courses. Guys, this is the place for a 1st date, anniversary or any other time you want to impress the significant other.

A fantastic gem in Centurion. This restaurant represents elegance at its best.

The service is professional and allows you to have your own unique experience.

As soon as you sit down wet cloths are brought to each of the guests to wipe their hands before commencing on a food journey.

Delicious homemade breads are served. I. Could add that the condiments were uninventive, yet classic. An amuse-bouche and sorbet as palate cleansers are also served.

The food is classic fine dinning. Not particularly outstanding, elegantly plated but probably in need of more flavour.

Definitely a good visit for a romantic visit or elegant wine and dine evening.

Class and good service defines this place. The ambiance is excellent which mainly is die the lovely live piano played in the background. After a short while seated, hot hand towels are brought so that you may wipe your hands. We had the duck starter which was crunchy and filled with flavour. My boo had the lamb shank which blew us away. I had the fillet and was just as amazed. Well done. Oh before I say I'll come back again, I already went for some pizza and wine. Really really enjoyed it. I'd advise that you go on a Friday night with the friends or just someone special. It's kinda really the best fine dining experience in centurion at the moment. You know what's really good, it's when they bring you small things like fresh bread from the oven, pallet cleansers and little gestures which make this an extraordinary experience.

Date night? This would be the perfect setting. Calm and romantic with the linger of the piano that just engulfs the atmosphere.

The service is quite exceptional. Michael was the guy who served us and took care of everything.

We had the lamb shank served with mash and ratatouille vegetables, the meat was soft and fell off the bone, was really really nice. As well as the ostrich steak topped with the blue cheese sauce, was a bit overpowering but tasty indeed..

Will definitely be coming here again for another date 😜

Despite the car park location, Hemingways is a charming location for a laid back breakfast or lunch, or a cozy dinner. The decor is light and refreshing with a magnificent bar in the inside section. The food is outstanding and cocktails are new and different. Highly recommend their fish and burgers. Great spot.

Attentive service, delicious food and beautiful setting. Some in our party said the venue is 'cold' and I do think my husband's suggestion of some persian rugs would make a world of difference in 'warming' up the place. All in all a pleasant experience.

Had such a stunning time at Hemingway's with friends for valentines dinner. The food was really amazing and the set up was thought through.. Enjoyed it and will be back!

The ambiance and the food at Hemmingway's Restaurant do justice to Ernest Hemmingway: it is as flavourful as his writing.

Dimmed lights, the fireplace, beautiful wine cellar and splendid piano music creates an unique ambiance. The tables are well placed, away from the busy kitchen and bar.

The variety on the menu is good with starters, main dishes, lighter dishes and pizzas. The combination of foods is complimenting, and although guests are requested not to substitute ingredients, I was accommodated when I asked them to leave out an ingredient. I ordered a pizza, because each pizza is named after one of Hemmingway's books. I do not know if it is because I love Africa's luscious summers so much, but The Green Hills of Africa was an excellent choice. The baked cheese cake is without doubt the best I ever had.

Although the waiter forgot to bring my Americano with the cheese cake, I still feel that the staff was very professional, well trained and added to a most enjoyable evening.

The prices might not fit a budget for a family outing on a Friday evening, but it is absolutely good value for money.

A quick bite to eat in Centurion turned into an amazing dinner for 2. When we walked into Hemingways we were blown away - the staff are friendly and tentative. The service went above and beyond. In terms of food it was difficult to make a decision - everything looked amazing. We settled for the Mediterranean veg pasta, mussels and mushroom risotto. The mushroom risotto is 'To Die For' - words just do not do it justice. The pasta and mussels were also good. I couldn't leave without trying the baked almond cheesecake which is probably the Best cheesecake I have ever eaten. Hemingways is perfect for a dinner for 2 or for a special occasion. Definitely worth a visit.

If you're looking for proudly-served terrible food and absolutely repulsive service, this is the place to be. Hemingways today is nothing short of a parody of its former self. The restaurant writes of itself: "a feast that will awaken your senses" - those who have dined here will agree that this establishment should be closed with a sense of urgency.
Edit: After our awful evening, I received a call from the restaurant to apologise and to offer a dinner on the house. The manager/owner (Lindes) promised to call in a few days to follow up on what had been done to prevent this from happening again. I have not heard back from him. Disappointing as we were almost convinced into giving the restaurant another chance...

Dinner at Hemingway's last night. We were curious to find out ourselves what a fair rating for this restaurant might be as there are quite divergent views.
Set in a hotel the decor etc is modern, perhaps unexpected for a venue with this name.
The staff still seemed to be in holiday mode and didn't really get into the rhythm the whole evening. Management should really spend some time on refresher training.
Wow, the chef certainly makes up for the slack waiters. The food was unexpectedly well presented and frankly delicious.
Considering the prices, also for the wine, I will overlook the slack service and award a rare 5,0. I'll be back.

Unpleasant experience overall. My filet steak was well done the first time around and then the second time around was medium, although both times I asked for it to be medium rare. The dish was missing components such as the mange tout and the red wine jus, but at that point I was not going to send it back a third time so I just ate it. Had the "Amarula chocolate moose" for desert. Mistake. Was completely frozen instead of set and as a result completely dense. I have the sense that they pre-make and plate up all the deserts and then freeze them and serve them as they are ordered, so who knows when my desert was made?! Suffice to say that was the first and last time they will ever see my face in that restaurant again.

One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Fantastic service and the food is even better. We were a large group and no-one had anything to complain about.
Francois Uys
Superp food, wine, dessert, service and environment. Prices not ridiculous either. Fantastic wine list. Must do when you're in the centurion area.

What an awesome experience we had at Hemingway's! The staff is ridiculously good at what they do. The maître d', waiter and trainee were impeccable with a vast knowledge of both the food and wine menu and very friendly. The food was nice, lacking a bit of excitement, and relatively small portions, but still enjoyable.
Frans Pretorius
Quick lunch that turned into an amazing gastronomical experience. 10 thumbs up :-)
The gourmet pizza menu is out of this world with fresh ingredients and their own authentic wood pizza oven. I'm a chili fan and their home grown chilies are the best.

I honestly expected more. Granted, we were won over merely because of the restaurant's title, but one also expects something great at the price we were paying. The service was okay, the food alright and overall we had a good evening, but we could've gotten the same at a Mugg and Bean.
I Love Pretoria
"This wine is too good for toast-making, my dear. You don’t want to mix emotions up with a wine like that. You lose the taste." – Ernest Hemingway, The Sun Also Rises

Ernest Hemingway's flavourful writing style is a tribute to his fondness of good food and fine wines. This passion inspired the name and design of Hemingway’s Restaurant & Wine Cellar.

We were introduced to the amazing restaurant when we attended a food and wine pairing featuring Zorgvliet wines’ artisanal, full-bodied reds and zesty whites, along with a brand new, nameless dessert wine that proceeded to warm us up during a very chilly evening.

Hemingway’s Restaurant & Wine Cellar feels like home. With sophisticated décor and food that is good enough to be on a Michelin restaurant menu, the staff ensures that this ultimate sophistication is softened by welcoming each guest as a friend.

The proof really is in the pudding, and Hemingway’s proved their prestige by recently winning a coveted TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, which honours hospitality businesses that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on the site.

Treat yourself to a warm evening filled with comforting food, elegant decor and beyond excellent service!

Excellent vibe. Love the look and feel of the restaurant. Food was rather tasty even though it wasn't made to order as requested. Ideal for a quick lunch stop over during the week.

Went to Hemingways for a special dinner with my Wife and Mother. Everyone's food looked so appetising I had to taste and I would have been happy with any of the mains that arrived at the table. Great wine selection, very good service, we were given our own private space because there was a big function at the restaurant. With the big crowd we didn't wait long for our meals. Excellently managed.
Marelize Haasbroek
What an awesome place. Hubby and I needed a night away from the kids and for people who are use to Spur this was really worthwhile. Nice and cosy little place with great service. Only reason I am not giving a 5 is because they didn't have the wine we chose from the menu in stock.
Michael Lotter
What an awesome restaurant. Will always be one of favorites. Must try the avocado ritz, pork belly and / or salmon. The wine selection is fantastic and service was good.
Alben Hunter
Worst leg of lamb ever, steamed and served on a bed of tasteless mash potatoes. Will not recommend this to anyone. Was really expecting the food to live up to the venue, disappointed.

Had an awesome dining experience at Hemingway's Restaurant last night!I have been visiting them for quite some time and the service is always impeccable, the food fantastic and the wine even better!!! Now they are planning a festival! Definitely not missing out on this one! 1 - 3 May - The Harvest Festival, buying my tickets at Computicket today!!

Went there for my birthday. All I can say is excellent! The chefs suggestion to go for the pork belly was the best!
Will definitely go there again.
Elischa De Necker
lovely experience! Waiter was very pleasant and helpful. The rack of lamb was amazing. The best place for any special occasion!

Took my wife here for an anniversary dinner. Very, very good fine dining dishes with excellent wine choices to go with the meal. You can expect excellent service from the waiters with a unique way to explain the menu.
Cobus Brink
A great experience. The food great, pork belly and salmon divine. Service 5 star and the personal visit from the chefs made a birthday really special. Will definitely come again.
Charlotte Tiley
Absolutely loved it! The food was awesome! Will go there again! Had the lamb shank and it was very good! My husband had the fillet with Madagascar green pepper sauce and it was out of this world !

For a Joburg-based lover of good food, Hemingway's is a real gem: a respectable almost-fine dining establishment in Centurion, which has long suffered from a dearth of viable fancier options for a good night out.

I'll spare you the lengthy review: suffice to say, Hemingway's is good. Really good. Excellent food from a varied and interesting menu, an extensive and reasonably priced wine and spirit selection, and really good service, all set in an elegantly decorated, old-time-style homage to one of the greatest literary geniuses makes for a great place to grab a steak and sip on a Lagavulin.

Highly, highly recommended on all counts.
Johann Pollard
Great wine list, friendly staff and the food was pretty good. Snoek ravioli for a starter was just OK, the Snoek was nice but the ravioli was disappointing. Had the pork belly for mains and must say it was damn well done. The fat was rendered just enough and the crackling was tasty. Would definitely go back!

I had valentines dinner at Hemmingway's and my date and I were absolutely blow away by the food. The food was very sophisticated and perfectly balanced. Portion sizes were perfect the three course meal and an appetizer, keep in mind you will need to order three courses. A fantastic experience!
