Review Bollywood Cafe - Cape Town Central

Try the Tikka chicken - it's the best. The place is unpretentious and the food is reasonably priced and good. Do not expect fine dinning. Nevertheless, this place is worth a visit. The chai is lovely.

The Bollywood Cafe is the place for the budget conscious and the hungry. It offers classic Cape food like the Bunny-chow and Gatsby. There is a wide range to choose from, everything from Indian to Chinese to pizza and burgers. The decor is low budget and it could be cleaner but it's worth the visit for the experience!

Absolutely stunning food! Been searching for a good Paneer dish in Cape Town and was utterly disappointed with Food Inn. Finally found good Indian food in Cape Town. Such good service and polite staff. Well done Bollywood Cafe!

Amazing Bollywood Cafe!! We ordered 1 kg Mutton Kadai (Specialized Mutton Curry) for 5 of us. It was so delicious in taste, quicker than our expectation, with 4 Naan bread (Indian Bread) , Raita (Special yogurt) & Fresh green salad the total food was more than enough for us. Thanks Bollywood Cafe.

Nice Indian restaurant with a lot of space, WiFi facility. There is no table service. Order is to be given at the counter and take the bill, then collect the order from other counter. Good in terms of quality and quantity.

I loved their food and the wide selection. The price points were great too. The service is excellent.

What a wonderful restaurant. The service and food has to be seen and tasted to believe. If you are in capetown and would like Indian food please try this restaurant.

My wife and I had a very fun time after some drinks and walking there food is amazing and very presentable my wife don't like food that doesn't look good ..

Ordered a lamb bunny chow which ended up being filled with mutton, 1 huge piece of potato and sauce. Barely any meat. Since I ordered lamb, this meal was so oily.

Food here is definitely affordable and the portions are huge. The ambience is drabby. I had the chicken biryani which was okay, not great then my partner had white rice and daal. For the most part, the daal was good but spicier than usual and then he chipped his TOOTH (molar) on a stone that was in his daal!!!! As in?????? Never going back there.

Food is affordable. Huge portions and freindly owner. Bollywood Cafe is one place you would like to go back to. The only drawback is the furniture is clumsy and old.

i ordered steak fried rice through mr.delievery . some of vegetables or portion of foods are gone sour. it seems like they mixed up with old leftover food and newly cooked together. how disgusting, health department should send them inspectors and have place checked up.

Have been throwing up since eating the curry last night. It was like a cup of oil. I ate the meat only as the sauce was inedible. Totally disgusting!

Used their bathroom and was held up by one of their employees in the bathroom, who wouldn’t let me leave the bathroom unless I paid him something or bought something from their restaurant. I wonder how many people you do this to ...

To say their portions are stingy is being generous. There’s enough oil in the curry to fry a whole bird. What a cool name for a curry shop but sadly the food edges on being inedible. I will order again in 6 months to see if anything changes, round two coming.

ZERO RATING......ordered the chicken hakkah noodles last night and was left with a surprise at the last portion, the bottom layer of the container was filled with oil. we could not finish the entire meal as it was soaked in oil.. My girlfriend had stomach problems until today. We're not people to complain but this is just not good quality of food. We ordered noodles and not oil.
. Thanks for a night to remember, remembering not to order from you again,

After getting the wrong order from Bollywood the second gapsty was filled with chips overloaded with sauce, let the to no meat, cheese or lettuce we were forced to eat it because of hunger. This kind of service is unexceptable.

You guys need to vet the quality of food that you produce. This is out of order on the highest level. Was I punished for sending back the wrong order????

A week in South Africa and we were craving for Indian food. The smell of Tandoor and Naan drove us to the restaurant - Bollywood Cafe. A huge restaurant typically modelled in the style of canteen has been serving North Indian for more than a decade. The restaurant is situated in busiest lanes of Cape Town- Long Street and the shop is open way past midnight.

We ordered for Tandoori Chicken and Butter Chicken Masala and two pieces of Garlic Naan. The order is served fast while the the open kitchen ensures you know what you get. In our case the Tandoori Chicken was very dry and raw, we needed it to be more moist. The Butter Chicken Masala is rich in spices and gives an essence of a Indian flavour. The Naan served are huge boulders and served the same in entire SA. In my view the Naan can be more flat and cooked.

Ordered Food from orderin, Lamb Curry and Rice... OMW!!!! 3 pieces of meat & I paid R85.00 for 3 pieces of meat!!!! I could have gone to KFC and bought me Streetwise 2, that would have been more filling... ... So disappointed!!!!

I really wish there was a zero rating on Zomato (that's what I'd score this place). Ordered the very oily aloo (potato) curry. Spent the entire night in the bathroom.... will never return.
Toons
I am shocked that this restaurant gets a 2 star rating. 2 is too high. 0 is more like it. The food drowns in oil. There is no flavour. If you get a takeout, make sure everything is waterproof because the lids are paper and will absorb half your curry. If your delivery service is as slow as Orderin, the paper will be part of your meal. I think i would have a better meal dumpster diving at mcdonalds. for the love of flavour, please avoid this store.

Order four meals for delivery - result was simply the worst food in Cape Town ... all four meals had no redeeming qualities! Only way this could be worst, is if we got the runs!

Even though i am pretty sure there can never be enough of this particular indian asian themes restaurants this particular one really didnt give me that "yaaass" vibe eastern bazaar had it 100% food inn almost makes it by like 70% but this place really just goes up to 20%

Bollywood Cafe legit used to serve thee BEST biryani I've ever had but unfortunately they decided to change it to the same recipe which every restaurant that sells biryani in CT seems to follow. Before the day I realised that I would have given them a much higher rating. The staff there are pretty friendly and the service is quick as most of the food is already cooked when you get there.

We love Indian Food more than anything else. If you order in more than 4 times a week and need to budget, this is the place. Delicious Indian food, caters for vegetarians and vegans and is affordable. The Dal Curry is my favourite.
Chillies Chef Cephas
Hakka noddles are my favorite. The chefs make them the way I want it. Although the chicken pieces are small, the noddles balances well with the vegetables. Keep it up

I love dodgy Indian food places the likes of Food and Eastern Bazaar so decided to give Bollywood Cafe a try. As I walked in the first thing I noticed was that the Tandori and Tikka chicken was already cooked and ready to be served. Big negative for me... I like it "fresh" from the Tandor like the other places do.

Ordered a lamb Roti. Was not impressed by the curry at all. It was bland and tasteless, more like a stew. The Roti was that frozen reheated type and I expected a proper flaky rolled Roti. The portion was also quite small.

Went again in 2016 December the food was not good at all and the music was so loud as you are in club. And the person on the counter was extremely rude.

Only place on Long Street that sells Indian Cuisine that's open until very late (we came here at 2:30 last night). Don't really have anything much to say about it. Prices are very affordable. Definitely a more interesting 'post-jol' food alternative to Long Street McDonalds.

Not my best take away spot but they have saved me many times at 4am in the morning. And in the end a gatsby is a gatsby, their noodles are also pretty tasty. If you with some friends and want to share a meal on an afternoon give it a go. But don't expect fancy eating.

Bland food. Busy eating "Chicken tikka masala" but it has no flavour. Food Inn is just across the street. Far superior. Eastern Food Bazaar is even better than that.

Only place in long street where you get Vegetarian Indian cuisine. Food is just fine. Had ordered Mutton Biryani super awesome quantity but taste was just okay.My friends ordered veg thali and they liked it.

Wow, thank you Bollywood Cafe for my (literally) three pieces of paneer in watered down tomato sauce that you have remarkably passed off as paneer makhni. I wonder if it would have happened if I had come into the shop - or if it was just because I ordered in (using Orderin app).
Jess G
Doesn't taste anything like Indian food. Had palak paneer, which tasted like spinach and garlic, and paneer makhni, which tasted like cheese in tomato sauce. No indian spices anywhere. Smaller portions, worse flavours, and more expense than Food Inn or Eastern Food Bazaar down the road.
Suitcases And Lattes
Thought we'd give this place a try rather than the place further down the road. I had the tikka chicken masala which was rather cheap. It was nice but a bit bland. My chai tea was silky smooth but not as spiced as I've had it in other places. On the plus, I found the service to be a lot better than other similar establishments. The setup was also a little less confusing.

Went there Friday past, the only swarma's available was the chicken, was looking forward to the lamb/beef swarma.. anyways, ordered the chicken (annoyed of the no variety). The chef couldn't speak a word of audible English and the swarma was terrible. Will not make an effort to go there again..

it's a sad joint. had food twice here, never caught on with me! the guys need to check out the food taste and quality of Food Inn and Eastern Food bazaar to atleast match up? ah well.

first time on long street looking for a quick bite .. Bollywood cafe was it. The service was ok and the staff helpful with choices. Food was not good.

Best food, generous portion size, enough meat and fresh made naan bread. It's simple, easy, convenient and inexpensive for a delicious Indian meal that has a homely feel😊😊 I eat here all the time when I am in Cape Town!!

The good news - no food poisoning. The bad news - everything else. Poor service, badly presented food, complete apathy when I complained. Disinterested owners and uninteresting food in small servings. Nothing going for the place.

Firstly, the food was ordered and came late.

Which obviously means it was COLD!!!!!

Secondly, The order was wrong and one item of food was missing...

Tried phoning numerous times, no response!

After FINALLY responding (30min later) They arrive with the food (which looks like shit and the steak on the sandwich couldn't fill up a miggie!!!

All in all, worst experience EVER!!!!!!

Decent food with generous portions.

It's kind of a twist on an Indian mall style food court model where instead of different people owning different cuisine restaurants, it's all under one. You can get Indian and middle eastern cuisines at a very decent price. The food isn't anything special but it's good and the generous portions sure do help.

We ordered:
Veg haka noodles - good
Veg sizzler - average
Aloo parantha - average
Riaan Anker
Very skimpy on the meat. Dish up as if scared they gonna give you too much.

The lamb curry is ample rice but the lamb is more bone than meat ..
