Beautiful wine farm with the most amazing views. The history here is just really wonderful to know about. We enjoyed lunch at their restaurant prior to our wine tasting which was superb. The wine tasting itself was perfect, we learned so much and enjoyed amazing wines.

Beautiful property with stunning views. This is one of the oldest wineries in South Africa, going all the way back to the 17th century and has Dutch colonial style buildings. If you go for wine tasting, it starts at 10:00 and is hosted in the building just behind Simon's Restaurant. Their wine tasting is predominantly red wine, with a few white wine, rosés and fortified wine options. You get a choice of five wines, and get to keep the wine glass at the end. Their wines are excellent, and worth investing in to age. My favourites were the lady of abundance and the merlot. With such a beautiful setting, it would be nice if the wine tasting could be done outside, as it can get very hot and noisy inside.

Fantastic wine tasting experience. Beautiful estate, large open seating, and friendly service. The older wines are very, very good. Definitely worth buying a case of the new bottles if you have a place to store them for 10-15 years.

Easily accessible via the blue bus (of the red bus tour). Beautiful grounds. Museum and winery tour and tasting available for a fee. Victor gave us a great tour and tasting - both humorous and informative.

The Groot Constantia estate is a gorgeous stop that my family and I enjoyed while on a sightseeing bus tour around Cape Town. The restaurants, the museums, and the wine tasting options provided here are all remarkable opportunities to engage with the scrumptious, time-tested splendors of South Africa. We even walked the vineyards, enjoying the beautiful weather and sights of this local treasure.

We dropped off our wonderful and happy party off at GROOT CONSTANTIA on our incredible CAPE SIDECAR TOURS. We were all warmly welcomed by all the staff, and they immediately settled our clients into a wine tasting. Thank you GROOT Constantia, truly appreciated.

Groot Contantia is not just the oldest wine estate in South Africa, it's also the best known of the lot. Having the historical advantage over similar establishments in South Africa, Groot sets out to impress visitors with its stunning location at the top of a hill overlooking Cape Town and the natural beauty of the estate. Hugging the slopes, its vineyards extend as far as the eye can see. The buildings, whitewashed and always painted fresh, hark back to past glory days. The restaurants have great views of the surroundings, not to mention a rich variety of savory and sweet dishes. And of course, there's the wine.

It was raining but the sun came out eventually just to brighten our day. The venue is beautiful.... Loved the vintage look in Simon's restaurant

A superb destination for a day out. Not only is this venue situated in the beautiful and historic Groot Constantia Vineyards , it is surrounded by a gorgeous natural setting of trees and plants. It is an ideal place to visit if you enjoy wine- tasting and cellar tours. It also boasts two fascinating museums and two lovely restaurants which have a calm and cozy atmosphere and superb food. The views are sublime. Definitely will visit again with friends or family.

Oldest winery. But I expected better wines. I loved the service and the tasting. Friendly staff & very knowledgeable, wines were not really fully compelling. Other than that, lovely experience

One of the most iconic wine farms on the South African wine scene is the Groot Constantia Wine Estate. This farms' quality and legacy speaks for itself, and it's a definite must-visit. There are numerous things to do from wine tastings, cellar tours and relaxing at one of the restaurants, to visiting the museum and learning the history of the farm and the Cape. We started off with a cellar tour and wine tasting, and thereafter proceeded to grab a late lunch at the "Jonkerhuis" (reviewed separately). The wine tasting was very casual and included a range of different varietals so you are almost guaranteed of finding something you like. Their cellar tours are scheduled for certain time slots which I can highly recommend you do, as you gain more respect for the wines after you realize all the work that goes into it. The tastings were affordable, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and we had an overall great experience.

As we ponder through the pages of South African history, we see how a man named Simon van der Stal, on being appointed the Governor of the Dutch East India Company to oversee the African Continent, took his love for wine a step forward by establishing this winery way back in 1685 A.D. , making it one of the oldest vineyards in the world. Over the years it became a popular wine as information can be seen of Emperors and Kings such as Frederick the Great of Prussia  and Louis Phillipe (King of the French) buying ‘Constantia Wyn’ at auctions across Europe. In the world of Literature, it appears in Jane Austen’s novel ‘Sense and Sensibility’ as a cure for a broken heart to be drunk to lift a character’s spirit as in ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’ by Charles Dickens. Do take a wine tasting session on your visit to Groot and taste the finest wine. We were also given the opportunity to taste the wine Napolean Bonaparte reportedly had on his deathbed. A must visit on your visit to Cape Town.

A bit confusing as were we should go for wine tastings. Ended up at a restaurant and then managed to find our way to taste room. Was a lovely experience further. Good background of wines was given, wine pairing with chocolate is well priced and we got to take home our glasses. Always a plus.
