Review Cafe Honeybun - Cape Town Central

Gary Simpson
So today's restaurant I went to was Honeybun Cafe and Deli. It is situated on the lower main road of Obs. I went there for some breakfast and enjoyed their Eggs Benedict with extra bacon. As a drink I enjoyed a Chai Latte. The food was very good and the staff were very friendly. The wait time was about 20mins for the food and drink. One really cool thing and I don't know if it was just for the Chai Latte, is the inclusion of a small heart shaped biscuit with the drink, a really nice touch. Finally the manager was really accommodating when my phone did not work with one of their card machines and we had to get another machine, so thumbs up for service. All in all a good experience.

A small nook of a place that's comfy I'd say This place would be wonderful if slightly better. That little bit extra. Small things like cheaper pricing more in line with quality received, it wasn't bad but I wouldn't order it again. I had the French Toast and well far from the best wasn't horrid. I think that's the way to describe this place. You could have better but this will do

What a VIBE ! Firstly you are greeted with a smile and a warm atmosphere. Secondly they have the best menu with affordable food for ALL. Thirdly amazing specials and an inside and outside seating area 🙂. Waiters are super friendly they become friends after a while, it will become your daily habit. Best moments 💞 Best vibe 🩷😉 would recommend to ALL !

Had a fantastic experience with the Honeybun staff this morning. I’d made an error on my Uber Eats order, and they were exceptionally helpful in helping me sort it out. 10/10 service, and 10/10 food!

Great service inside and a cool place to chill at, they must just welcome their Patrons better. While it was raining, the waiter asked us while we are about to enter if it's a takeaway or sit-in, I believe they could have welcomed us in 1st since it's raining and then ask.

Cafe Honeybun is a great place to have a breakfast or brunch. We ordered a omelette and open sandwich for breakfast. Both meals were very well cooked and have a lot of flavour. The sandwich comes with a very refreshing salad. Overall, great quality meal and decent portion size.

Situated in the Hipster precinct of Cape Town. Good Coffee, well presented affordable Halaal meals. Breakfast was a hit. Friendly staff and well managed. An overall great experience. Off street parking may be an issue but was well worth it.

Lovely place to grab brunch. We loved the Shuka and Eggs Benedict. Chocolate croissant was great as well. Will be back soon!
Juliet Drozdz
Lovely meal on a cold chilly morning and great value for money. Waitress was lovely. Nice way to say bye to Observatory.
Thomas Coggin
Nice food (the butternut and avo wrap was good), affable and efficient service, delicious smoothie. Was not bowled over, but a great little place for a light lunch.
Bianca Patterson
Awesome staff and delicious chicken mayo toastie.... and the hot chocolate is to die for... 😋 super awesome and friendly staff that are very helpful 😀

Great little gem in Cape Town. Came across the cafe in the Entertainer app, situated in the heart of Obz. Good place to catch a quick bite from toasted sandwiches, croissants and light meals. Great coffee's as well - I recommend their Mocca. Prices are reasonable as well, considering the portion sizes. The service isn't the greatest, however decent for a café ambiance.
Aaron Yarmoshuk
I quite like Honeybun. Their eggs Benedict is very tasty. Good service. Lovely vibe.
Suleen Truter
Freshly prepared breakfasts and juices, delicious croissants and a friendly atmosphere accompied by even friendlier service

Situated on the corner of the main street in Mowbray, Honeybun is a friendly little cafe. It offers a basic but satisfying menu and a cosy atmosphere. There's an outside area for smokers that is heated. It's a busy area with lots of shops, bars and eateries, great to wander around.

I popped into Honeybun for lunch yesterday and enjoyed the setting, however was highly disappointed with the service as well as inefficiency in the kitchen. The order was beef lasagne which ended up in a 40/45min wait just to receive an incorrect order of vegetarian lasagne, no compensation from the staff and left with a hungry stomach. Quite unfortunate seeing as Honeybun seems like such a nice spot to be enjoyed. I would have wanted to leave with a better first impression than that.
Jessica Henn
Really great coffee and croissants, but terrible service. It’s now the second time that waitresses were rude, and we waited 30 minutes for two cappuccinos which we eventually cancelled. We waited 10 minutes for a takeaway croissant, and when complaining about the service, the owner was completely blasé. So sad, because we wanted this to be our local place as we just moved to Obs.
Emma Dicks
I've always loved weekend mornings at Honeybun but today was served French toast that was deep fried with syrup posing as honey and had my coffee slopped all over the place. This disappointing breakfast accompanied by unending Michael Buble was not what I hoped for.
Kathrin Johnson
Loved my coffee and food. The lady behind the counter was super sweet and helpful. Thank you!
Jon Boltman
Fantastic breakfast. The poached eggs benedict was perfection in my mouth. Super little setting, lovely music to sooth the soul. The coffee is the best.

Popped in for a quick brekki yesterday and was very happy with the service and the meal 😊Will definitely be going back for seconds

Hi.always love coming here.but something has gone wrong with the staff and the approach to customers. After stopping outside at 7.45 I was told by 3 staff ladies that not to bother as they are closed and still setting up for the day. This while the one was cutting her fingernail nails and the other lighting up a fag while sitting outside on the benches. Asking what time they will be opening I was told in 10 minutes. Pitty....not many decent spots left on the Obs stretch.

Since Cafe Honeybun opened on the Square, It's my favourite spot in town. The food is consistently delicious, the atmosphere is cheerful and inviting, and the service is excellent - Nicola is just the most charming and attentive waitress ever! I've made plenty of trips to Cafe Honeybun now and I've never been disappointed. Keep up the great service, and see you tomorrow :-)
Melissa Hall
Great food. Great variety to choose from. Friendly service.
Abbey Lardner-Burke
Food was average. Service was absolutely SHOCKING. Waiters and staff are rude and unfriendly. Such a lovely location, pity it is ruined by this.

I stumbled upon honeybun a few weeks ago and thought I had to bring the family to experience the wonderful feel for Father's Day! Such a cozy spot with the most delicious food and perfect sized cappuccinos! I had the tasty B.B.C on their homemade ciabatta and my dad enjoyed the Brockwurst with a Weiss beer
Martie Bester
Great music ,breakfast, coffee and service!! See you again.

Vibey, good food, and really helpful staff. Enjoyed my time there.
Jojo Amber
Unfriendly service, ordered a open grilled beef sandwich. What I received was a slice of burnt white toast, pilled on it was a bed of lettuce with yellow and brown spots on it accompanied with thinly sliced soggy beef. Did not have mustard or pickles as indicated on the menu. I was left highly disappointed, when complained about it-the waitress told me that their open sandwiches do not usually look like “this”. Would not recommend Honeybun👎👎👎

I arrived at 7 the advertised opening time and was told quite rudely by the shop assistant they only open at 7:30 and the advertised time is old (how would a customer know that...) Staff are rude and not interested in helping customers it seems
Lovely little spot.

Inside is quite small but very cute. The staff were so friendly and nice.

Food- Really really good especially for the price.
I can't wait to visit again!
Amber Kneisel
Their food is totally up to standard, their service is exceptionally friendly & the setting is cheerful & cosy. Their cheesecake is the best! :)
Aimee Allison
This little cafe is a great spot for breakfast and lunch. They have lovely light meals as well as really hearty lunches. I ordered their Eggs Benedict, one of my favourites, and it was very tasty. The portion size was perfect and their Hollandaise was not too thick. I haven't had something on their menu I did not enjoy. They are also on the Entertainer which makes it extremely affordable!
Jarita Hagrid Kassen
Cafe Honeybun has an inviting, friendly atmosphere! The staff is helpful and patient also very accommodating.
I always have the 3 egg omelette with basil pesto when visiting this treasure. It is filling and perfectly cooked every time. The coffee is sublime, especially the cappuccino smoothie. Highly recommend!
Tip: if you’re going in a group of 5/more go a little earlier as table space is limited.
Sarah Herrington
This place is more deserving of a 3.5 - but only because their cheesecake redeemed them. We came here for a late brunch. The atmosphere is lovely and cozy inside, and their Truth coffee is delicious. However, the food was rather disappointing - my corn rosti was atop a mountain of wilted salad, and the portion itself was actually rather small. Service was quick, and their cheesecake is highly recommended - rich, creamy and delicious. Would only come back here for cake and coffee.
Moeheen Baardman
Cute place, great service, and nice looking menu, but the food was dissapointing the spinach on the eggs benedict needed to be wilted or blanched to cut the sharpness and the nutella flapjacks could be more generous.
Laura Martin
This is the cutest, cafe ever! What’s even better was that I could use my entertainerZa app here!

A lovely intimate setting and super cosy. Parking was quite difficult to find but when is it ever easy to find parking in Obs 😂 the service was a bit slow but the food came quickly once we ordered. We had the most MOST DELICIOUS flapjacks topped with strawberries, bananas and Nutella and bacon. I Was in 7th Heaven, their coffee was okay and complimented the brekkie so so well! I will most definitely becoming here again, in fact I’m busy planing my breakfast there tomorrow 😭🙌💕
Megan João (Jacobs)
Great breakfast spot! Had the eggs Benedict and hubby had the full house breakfast. Both breakfasts were divine, and I had my eye on a delicious looking cheesecake but sadly had no space, will definitely be back to try it! Good service as well! Super cute crockery chandelier. Only reason I couldn't give 5 stars was that that the coffee was decent but not great.. I'll be back for the yummy food and some tea :)
Loes Gsn
The sandwiches are delicious, every single time again. Sometimes it does take a while before they come to take your order and also to get your food. Service is okay/good.
Cashleigh673
What a gorgeous little spot. Super viby and cozy. The food was absolutely excellent and the service was delightful. The dirty chai latte is definitely a MUST! This little corner cafe fills the tummy and warms the heart. Love, love, LOVE!
Shenel Singh
Such a cute quaint place to have breakfast! We went there at 11 and the servers were happy enough to accommodate a big group of ours. The restaurant is very earthy and vintage looking, which was a cute atmosphere for a cafe. The location is very enveloped on the main road.

The service was excellent. The food arrived within 10 minutes. I ordered the breakfast museli, served with fresh fruit. It was a good amount of sweet, not many restaurants can master. In addition, I ordered the almond latte, which was pretty good. The prices are super cheap also.

If I had free time, I would definitely visit this restaurant with a book or my laptop to do some work, as it is very tranquil.
Paula Macnab
Had a lovely light lunch! The Halloumi salad is great and has lots of It! My friend had the homemade fish cakes, really nice portion!

All round a good meal and good service!

A happy find on the hunt for a Sunday breakfast! Cozy little buzzing spot in the heart of obs. Everything was perfect from the service, to the food with the salmon Benedict winning my heart. I'm sure I'll be back for more!
Loren Humphreys
Really GOOD food!
Really BAD service! It is almost as if though they're doing us a favor? Energy is just completely off - to be honest I feel like your waitress really does not enjoy what she does...

The only reason i think most of your costumers return is because the food is almost as if though it made at someones house. Which is nice :)
Nina Formanek
Honeybun is set right on a busy street corner in obs. It boasts such a positive and upbeat vibe. I love how homely it feels. Also they make a solid coffee & breakfast. I'm a real eggs Benedict snob and Honeybun is definitely on mark. 🌺
Toni Erasmus
I enjoyed their chicken burger! The taste was great. My friend has a beef burger and it tasted like “Frikkedal”. Then the onion rings in this picture was so bad. It looked great but it tasted like a doughy doughnut! Never again for that onion rings .

The service was really nice. The waiter was friendly, but wasn’t smelling too good. This really upset me before eating. Other than everything. I think the place is really nice and a cool place to chill at!
Food: Pretty good for a small restaurant. Their tomato soup goes down well in winter. Their brockwurst with sauerkraut is also good for a laid back lunch.

Service: Pretty slow. If you're looking for a quick meal this is not the place.

Ambience: Old style coffee shop and deli vibe
Phenyo Makgabo
Negatives:
-Food is bland and tasteless (well the eggs Benedict)
-Wifi is terrible and hard to get onto.
- Service is slow and they tend to forget you if you’re sitting outside, they also don’t take orders well (please read that in the least pompous manner🙈).

Pros:
-The coffee is really good, like not great, but good 7/10
-The vibe is really calm and amazing
-The drink was amazing! (I forgot the name😂)

Deduction:
This place is a hipsters paradise, but entry level hipster vibes. Wouldn’t go again, especially if it’s to work.
Hlonipho
Cute little place on lower main. Has the best of everything. A little squashed, there are so many tables for the small place it actually is. But definitely still is a good place to visit. There's an outside bench that you can take a good look of the obz hipsters from. The service is good and it's definitely worth visiting.
Ivi Malotana
This place is cosy, small and absolutely great. It's great for breakfast. Actually, it is the best breakfast place in Observatory. If you happen to end up in the area, do try it out. It is a great place if you're on a student budget too.
Chris Rafael
A cute little corner shop in Obz serving a fresh assortment of breakfasts, sandwiches, burgers and sweet things. I’m a big fan of the cup and spoon cartoons that are carried throughout the place. The space is small but cozy. The coffee is prepared well and you can pick up on the fruity notes in the blend of coffee used. The foam quality isn’t consistent throughout but still gets a pass mark. I had the club toasty and Candice Nancy (Ryan) Rafael had the eggs Benedict. We decided that between the two the Benedict was the clear winner. The eggs were perfectly poached and there was a decent amount of hollandaise sauce and a overall solid balance of flavour. The chicken on my club toastie was cooked well but maybe just a tad over-spiced but still tasty overall. Very impressed with the quality of ciabatta used.
Popped to Honeybun on my lunch break. Two simple dishes from the lunch menu took over an hour to arrive. My boyfriend's lunch arrived after an hour and mine had to be taken away with me as I had to get back to the office. If you're hoping to quickly "pop in" to Honeybun - don't.

Went here for breakfast, made a reservation because I know it gets full and it was a public holiday. We were five people. It took about 10 minutes before we were able to get someone's attention to take our order. Our drinks were delayed because there were no clean glasses. When our food came 40 minutes after ordering 3 of the orders were wrong, this was understandable but then correcting the mistake took another 15 minutes. The smoothie was really great. The food was average.
Ryan Goodman
Rustic, quirky and unprententious with a decent breakfast and coffee offering. We tried the 3 Egg Omelette and Scrambled Egg with Salmon. The portions were large and filling. Service was a little slow but still a great place for a weekend brekkie.
Juanita Rene Stears
Love it, a small little corner café situated in Obz.
I love the feel and vibe of Observatory, staff was very friendly, helpful, gave us the best food, loved the lasagne and the burger, fresh food. Will be back for more.
Laura Byrne
We'd heard this was good and the decor was promising but we were disappointed by slow service and substandard food. Margarine in the hollandaise sauce, strange tasting eggs and coffee wasn't good. Not up to scratch for trendy Obz.
Capetown_restaurants
One can never have too much eggs benedict, and if one is looking for a good take on this classic dish then @cafehoneybun is the place to go. Such a great dish, made all the easier to enjoy owing to the lovely atmosphere of Observatory early on a Saturday morning.
Vuyo Sisanda Sisanda
We waited for our food forever , with no excuse or no apology . We are still waiting. Would not recommend this place . Service needs to be sorted .

Busy Breakfast Spot in Observatory. Amazing Food. Service is a bit slow. It gets a little noisy indoors. They have outdoor seating too. Recommended. You will not be disappointed.
Justice Levi
Perfect breakfast everytime. Wide variety to choose from and you can make your combinations. Staff are very friendly & attentive. Highly recommended, probably the best place for breakfast & brunch in Obz.
Andreas Bohms
Great little place in Obs. Tried it out for the first time today. Space is a bit tight but we enjoyed the food. The summer chicken salad was absolutely devine. Service was good and fast. I think this place is lovely for a lunch visit and will definitely be back.
Elise De Kock
The service is consistently bad. The waitrons are standoffish and unfriendly. Have had several bad experiences, the most recent being: sat outside, had to fetch own menus after 10 minutes of being ignored. Had to then call waitron to take our order after more waiting. Drinks took 20 minutes to come out. Had to cancel food order after waiting another 40 minutes, as we were on a tight schedule. I watched several other customers who had sat down walk out because they werent being attended to. The coffee is average. Enjoyed my smoked chicken and Brie sandwich: well-priced, generous with ingredients, great ciabatta. It's a pity that i dont have the patience to go back.
Previn Shahanshah
Expected alot more from this place with its high rating and all... was an utter dissapointment, waited over an hour for an open faced sandwich... food was tastey but what i got on my plate my nephew could make in 15minutes. Needless to say the service needs attention, and and open faced sandwich should have two slices of bread (hence open sandwich- not one slice only!!!)

Terrible place to have breakfast. Cramped space, disinterested staff and they have a bit of an issue with flies. We ordered a Lemon Drop smoothie and a freshly squeezed fruit juice to start with (they allow you to blend three types of juice) but so many of the listed juices were unavailable we opted for tea instead.

For breakfast, we ordered the bacon and cheese croissant with the listed added side of scrambled eggs in the menu, and the eggs benedict which is described as being served on a ciabatta with two poached eggs, on a bed of rocket, etc.

Apart from the fact that the food took forever to arrive (we observed two different tables just getting up and leaving without ordering), when the food did eventually get to us, the croissant came on a ridiculously small side plate, without the eggs.

Even worse, the eggs benedict came with ONE poached egg instead of two, and the whole lot was piled on a bed of limp, warm lettuce instead of the rocket it was meant to come with. Sent it back and got their "Recession Breakfast" instead.

At least the coffee was good.

All in all, not a great experience. Do. Not. Recommend.

My friend and I had a brunch catch up here on a Saturday morning. The cafe is small, but very cute and offers seating outside as well.

We both had an almond flat white which are in nice big cups, the way it should be. To eat I had the nutella french toast which caught my eye on the menu and being a huge nutella fan I would have liked a tiny bit more nutella, but it was still good.

The service was rather slow and they weren't very busy, but there seemed to be only one waitress. They are on the Entertainer, but it does not include breakfast items. Reasonably priced though so worth a visit :)

Disgustingly delicious. Love the setting and vibe of the Obs village. Loved our chicken burgers although we were out of luck for desserts. Food is well priced and really good.
Jaco Esterhuizen
Small vibey restaurant in the heart of Obz. Great for intimate gatherings with great friends. Devoured a chicken, bacon and avo burger... AMAZEBALLLLs.... Chicken and bacon was super crispy...add the mustard mayo and wham!!!!!.... Mouth orgasm!!!!!!!also give the fresh pressed juice a go... Had a refreshing ginger, pineapple and carrot concoction. A definite favourite for a lazy Sunday lunch Marcus Christiansen Meghnaaz Williams

Oh my gosh I just had the best open sandwich ever! Took slightly long to arrive but so worth the wait! They're apparently super busy in the morning so run out of items early on, so be sure to get there before 12.
Khanya Mashalaba
Although Honeybun has a really great menu, I unfortunately will not be coming back here. The service was a appalling and the experience quite terrible.

When we arrived we sat ourselves and waited for over 20 minutes before we were attended to. I had to collect a menu myself and ask the for waiter to take our order. We ordered coffees - and these also took 30 minutes and my having to go and ask for progress before we got them.

There are a lot of flies in the restaurant which makes the whole experience extremely uncomfortable.

The coffee was good. Loved the smoothies. Breakfast was also good but the service and experience was terrible.
Food Ninja
The Berry Blaze smoothie is worth going back for. I had the Gladys chicken, bacon and avo on ciabatta. Hubby had the beef burger - perfectly fried chips. Small but funky deli in Obz. A lot of flies in the restaurant which is a bit off putting especially when I saw them sitting on the scones and croissants on the counter - hence the not so great rating, otherwise I wouldve rated this a 4.

Honeybun Café in Obz is a fantastic choice for fresh and tasty breakfasts and lunches, and their free wifi means you can keep connected with the world while you satisfy your hunger pangs. This time we savoured an exceptionally tasty quiche and an equally yummy Cape Malay chicken curry, washed down with a Castle Lite and a glass of Sav. Lovely food, very well priced.
Rialivhuwa Mashudu Tshikovhi
The food is delicious! I love their freshly pressed juice too. I had one of the gourmet sandwiches; the bread was also super fresh. Definitely going back.
Megan Parker
Quaint and perfect gem in Observatory. The perfect spot for a good breakfast and amazing flat white.
A group of us won a quiche from honeybun and wanted to collect it. Unfortunately we needed to order it in advance and did not receive it, but the staff were so accommodating with us and ended up ordering food to the value of the quiche. We all ordered open sandwiches which were divine.
The place is quite expensive so sharing certain meals isn't a bad idea. Also it's very popular, therefore make sure you come in early for breakfast and lunch times.
Once again the staff were so accommodating to us and we couldn't have had a better experience.

Cool little coffee shop. Cozy ... Makes you feel "at home" from the moment you set foot inside :) Nice, varied menu. Freshly baked croissants, brownies, mini-milk-tarts (still need to try these!) all up on display.

Flat-white was nice and creamy. I wasn't too happy with the Eggs Benedict (REALLY, really wanted to be) - Rocket was just too overpowering, so I couldn't taste the Hollandaise sauce at all (or the bacon) ... pretty sure this wasn't the intention.

Service was fast and our waitress was VERY friendly!

Will definitely be back for another visit, soon. Want (need) to try the rest of their menu!
Danieljake
An Obz gem.

I've come here many times for coffee with friends but I've only ever eaten here once.

The last time I was here I had a bacon & egg croissant & a flat white. The croissant was moist and scrumptious. The eggs were fluffy and the bacon was crispy and delicious.

The flat white was served at the right temperature with good microfoam and lovely mouthfeel. Decent crema too.

There's a vibrant atmosphere and the music takes you right back to the 40's, which really compliments the the Obz lower main setting.

Honeybun is a quirky corner cafe located in a bustling hub of Observatory. It is a cute down to earth place perfect for a breakfast with fabulous friends.

The fresh coffee they serve...which is Truth coffee...is out of this world! They also offer a great range of smoothies & freshly squeezed juices. Food includes breakfast, classic toasties, house sandwiches and some sort of freshly baked delights of deliciousness.

I ordered the Salmon Benedict - two poached eggs placed on a bed of salmon & rocket served on ciabatta with cream cheese, fried tomato and drizzled with hollandaise sauce. Hubby opted for the normal Eggs Benedict with two poached eggs and bacon served on ciabatta. Both were delicious in flavour and very filling.

Our friends ordered a wholesome Full House breakfast served with rashes of bacon, eggs, fried mushrooms, grilled tomato, pork sausage and toast as well as a delicious buttery croissant filled with cheese and crispy bacon.

A place with a relaxed atmosphere and a rustic charm serving coffee that is so aromatic and great - what more can you ask for?

Had a delightful breakfast at this corner cafe in Obs. Located in a bustling busy street with lots of quaint restaurants and eateries. The decor is quirky, cute and comfortable and people were streaming through the doors. Lucky we booked!

The breakfast menu offers a fair selection of dishes with optional add ons. Hubby had the full house which consisted of eggs, bacon, shrooms, porkies & toast. I chose the scrambled eggs with bacon & cheese on a croissant. The chef forgot the eggs. Friends had the eggs benedict which boasted perfectly poached eggs.
The coffee, cappucino and lattes were tasty (Truth coffee) and flavourful. What a great start to the day!
Nici Botha
Gahhhh this was the cutest little cafe ever, I loved it.. I totally forgot to take a photo of my meal but I had a Smoked Chicken and Bree Ciabatta with a side salad, it was really good and so much, I had to grab a take away, the coffee is also amazing as they sell Truth coffee and their prices are so reasonable. My mom and I went here for brunch and my mom was very impressed, she also loved the fact that they are in Obs, where we barely ever come.. I will def be going back to this little gem of a cafe!!

Stopped by here for a spot of breakfast wasn't disappointed. This small cafe in the hipster area of Observatory is the hidden eatery area.

The cafe is very small and we basically sat behind the kitchen area so our food am out hot and fresh. I went for my standard go to breakfast dish or eggs benedict where the eggs were poached properly and bacon was nice and crispy.

My only complaint was the kitchen forgot the scrambled eggs on my friends croissant.

Staff are friendly and worth the visit. Good that they are in the Entertainer and take Zapper.

I could have breakfast at Honeybun everyday! Their affordable prices and homely atmosphere make it so inviting.
Honeybun is a tiny café at a street corner in Obz that tends to get very full during weekends. Everyone is seated close together and the kitchen is right behind you, but it is so worth it.
I love their stuffed omelettes which I fill with mushrooms, onions and feta cheese! My friends tried the full house breakfast which they had no complaints about. We then treated ourselves to a chocolate croissant which I have no regrets about.
Honeybun is worth a visit for a casual, quick breakfast.
The Cape Town Glutton
Definition of a hidden gem! Such a cute little shop with delicious food - definitely try their French toast it's a winner! Such lovely staff and most welcoming owner, highly recommend!

I wanted a breakfast near Groote Schuur and Honeybun was highly recommended on Zomato, so we decided to give it a try. The place was nice and cute. We ordered coffee and breakfast. The coffee was a disappointment to say the least. It was burnt with a strong bitter after taste. I simply couldn't drink it.
On the other hand the breakfast was very good. I ordered cheese omelette which was cooked to perfection. My friend orders a croissant and it was so fresh and she loved it. I still recommend the place but maybe next time I will drink something else other than coffee.
Mikaela
Honeybun is such a cute spot in Woodstock to grab a coffee and a bite to eat! Honeybun has a great vibe and their cappuccinos are top notch. I had the poached eggs which I wasn't much of a fan of - it had a strange taste to it. Definitely stop in for some coffee if you're in Obs!
Beth Anne Mendelowitz
Decent service and good food. Unfortunately like most restaurants, there isn't any vegan option so I had to tailor make my breakfast into a not-so-healthy fried mushrooms, tomatoes and chips. I also had a freshly squeezed juice which was lovely. Beautifully decorated restaurant in the heart of Observatory
Peter
The worst experience EVER. Rude waitress "who didnt even introduce herself" that fights with her colleague in front of customers over cutlery. Then we order and i ask for HOT milk, yet get cold milk. My fiancé orders hard eggs and gets soft eggs with fully running yokes. I asked for condiments and was ignored,I had to ask AGAIN. We ask for the bill and get ignored while our waitress goes off and prepares serviettes. We pay via their Zappa facility and the app times out, next thing the waitress yells out "DECLINED...DECLINED...DECLINED" As if that wasn't enough, she shouts my fiancé's name out as well, almost as if WE don't have money, but it was the app that mulfunctioned. She was completely unprofessional amd embarrassing and humiliating customers like that is seriously out of line. I regret spending my time and money at this dump.

Lots of character, and great location. Catchup over coffee or stay a little longer for something more sunstantial. Early morning sunny spots are snapped up quickly in this cool spot, some come early and spend some time!

Awesome vibe and awesome food. Great place to switch off at and also to catch up with good coffee. Loved the variety of food items. Literally something for everyone. 👍👍👍🍪

My favorite lunch place in obs - an up and coming destination for any hip foodie. Ideal for a healthy, affordable and delicious meal situated in a cute and homey environment. The service is impeccable: the waiters are always so approachable and friendly.
Serita Ramdhani
What a little gem of a place!
Honeybun has a great atmosphere, such friendly staff and a different style of open-plan setting.
We ordered Chicken & mayo tosties and I can definitely say it was much tastier than Mugg&Bean's over-priced sandwiches.
Another bonus is that they serve Truth Coffee, which is fantastic! And I loved the details of nice large and stylish cups.

Overall, although the service was a little slow, it's worth all the while once the food arrives👌🏻🍴
I'll definitely be back soon!
Michelle Dalton
Quaint little place in the heart of Obz.
The decor is quirky and you could spend hours seeking out the hidden gems as you sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
I had Eggs Benedict which was lovely. Honeybun serve Almond Milk Cappuccinos, and I can testify that they are great!
A super cute place that deserves extra points just for being able to serve meals from the teeny kitchen!
Azele Anne Naicker
I really enjoyed the experience at honeybun. The coffee shop is cozy and comfy and I enjoyed the view of the street. I opted for a stir fry which was on the blackboard for the day. It was delicious and a generous portion. The staff were really friendly and helpful as well

Very cute corner cafe. Good coffee and great Nutella French toast with strawberries, banana and almonds. Rather generous portions and polite atmosphere. Internet access good.

Posted a shining review for this place 6 months ago and am very sad I'm having to take it down a notch. Our waitress wasn't particularly friendly or welcoming. Our almond latte and almond flat white was hardly drunk due to how absolutely awful it tasted. The food was quite nice, pity that my salmon Benedict was more of a room temperature than warm, though. All in all, can't say I'll be rushing back.

There food good but where it is

There are dogs walking with there owners and there is a lot of flies outside

Inside there is limited space

Great brunch spot!!! I'm happy to tick this one off my Bookmark list. :) Will definitely come again!! I enjoyed the Salmon and Cream cheese croissant. Definitely recommend the B.B.C. House sandwich! Love the decor!

The first time I came here, I had the eggs Benedict which was great. Came back today for another round only to be incredibly disappointed. The food was bland and tasteless. The service was horrific. It took over an hour to get our food. Won't be coming back.

Not a very appetizing breakfast. The bacon and egg toastie was very dry. My chicken and mayo toasties was okay. However the cappucino was great. Will have to comeback to try maybe lunch.

Cute little corner coffee shop. Had breakfast. The eggs were devine but the spinach was hella salty. Otherwise the meal was really lovely. Service was cool.

I've been wanting to try Honeybun for ages and was so disappointed. I know lunch hour can be crazy but the wait for service and then for food was far too long. When it came, the food was not good. "Rare roast beef sandwich" turned out to mean very over cooked beef. My fillet wrap was not great either. My dairy-free smoothie was delicious, though. I'd like to go back to try breakfast one day as that menu looked great.

Fabulous Bacon Benedict! Wonderful service. I van recommend the red cappuccino. They open early on a Saturday en die kos is piele!

Food is quite average but Honeybun is the best place on lower main to have a coffee in the sun on a Saturday morning, the staff are friendly and welcoming and try to accommodate for different needs.

They have just started serving tapas which we are yet to taste, but it sounds very promising!

Love the atmosphere and the peanut butter banana milkshake! A very nice place to sit and observe the busy people and life passing by on the street. Great for sitting with friends and chatting but a bit loud for reading books or working.

Unbelievably terrible service, waited nearly 20 minutes to make an order, and another 20 minutes just to be served a coffee and a beer. Waitresses inside weren't busy but rather just chatting away. Coffee was absolutely awful when it finally arrived. When we went to pay the card machine didn't even work. Will definitely never be back.

Update: Went back to Honeybun a few months later. Food good, service still terrible! The waitress was literally sitting behind the counter eating after we asked her twice for our bill, and she just completely ignored us. Don't go to Honeybun unless you want the worst service of your life!

Lovely little place based in Obs. It's open early which is great so that you can grab breakfast before work.

I opted for a flat white, and eggs on toast. Both were served very quickly (maybe that was because it was early and there were only 2 other customers). Next time I would like to try something more adventurous, as they have a good selection of specials on blackboards around the shop, including Rugby World Cup specials :)

It is small, so you may struggle to get a table in busy periods.

They have free wifi, along with which your sign-up gives you the option to receive an email newsletter with all their latest specials which is quite nifty.

Will definitely visit again.

Been meaning to try this place but have always put it off because, at first glance, I haven't been all that impressed with the menu. But, as is usually the case with simple menus, the food really is quality. Had a bacon, spinach and feta omelette and I really was impressed. What was particularly nice was the size of it. Far too often I get flimsy 2 egg omelettes at restaurants, but not at honeybun. Fantastic value for money. I would definitely go back. Service was sharp so no complaints. I think they could do more to greet and seat customers walking into the restaurant however, because I watched quite a few people walk in, take a quick and look and then walk out again because of the apparent lack of available seating.

A delicious combination of Breakfast and Lunch😛🍴#brunch #foodie #happy #honeyBun #artuellaLife #blogger. After a late shoot last night and an early morning today this is all i wanted. #pjs @ the restie✌🏼️#lifeInTV🎥. HoneyBun knows how to do Brunch. My friend and I both got The Gypsy Sandwich which is my new favorite with gypsy ham, mozzarella, Tomatoe and cucumber with a nice light salad with some mustard seed dressing along with the skinny lemon drop smooth made for a compelling combo while she opted for some porcupine blanc red wine . The atmosphere is great since my friend and I both could both hear each other without fighting the music. And this went for R80!The staff is great, attentive without being overwhelming which too me is a skill. The serves is fast and the presentation and food superb and did I mention wifi?!! But who needs wifi when u have good food and friends? I'll be sure to be coming back here again❤️

I've been here a few times for a spontaneous coffee in the mornings or a glass of wine in the afternoons. For the first time I had a meal here yesterday and it was incredible.

The food was fresh, staff was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was so warm. The prices are so reasonable you could...

Small little place in main rd observatory. We had 2 juices that were amazing. The chicken curry I ordered was great and i loved the cape malay spices:-). Definitely a place to visit.

I often come to Honeybun. The service is excellent and the food is wholesome and delicious. I highly recommend the cozy Winter Soups. Also great for a quick cappuccino and croissant.

Absolutely lovely atmosphere and pleasant experience! Definitely recommend a pop in, even if it is just for a lovely cappuccino and a muffin.

I frequent Honeybun often. My absolute favourites are Oats with honey and nuts, French toast with syryp and bacon, Baked cheese cake and a large Cappucciino. The service is allways friendly.

We live in Obs and always wonder past Honeybun and today we went in for lunch for the first time. Unfortunately disappointing... My spinach and feta quiche was tasteless and definitely not freshly made and my partners chicken sandwich wasn't very memorable. Coffee was okay but not great. Will give it another try sometime, maybe they were having an off day.

Kinda like the place, the food was good. I had French toast and it surprised me a little as I didn't expect much from a French toast. The place was a bit messy but acceptable. Staff was very friendly.

I have always walked past here but the other day I needed a quick lunch so I popped in to get a takeaway. I ordered the beef lasagne but when I got home I was quite disappointed to see it was a vegetarian lasagne. I still don't know what their food tastes like... They did give me my money back but a simple apology from someone would have gone a long way.... They weren't really fazed that they had made a mistake (does it happen often?). Not happy with my experience there.

I had a veggie lasagne which was delicious... Fresh and well presented ... And then a baked cheese cake...literally the best I have had. All in all great experience with good service.. I'll be back ;)

The coffee isn't the best and it's a highly chaotic space where time is not of the essence but it is an easy coffee spot in Obs. The food specials are good and they serve a variety of soups

Had breakfast at Honeybun this morning..the atmosphere is cozy and buzzy with friendly efficient staff.Wonderful coffee..however the full breakfast was a huge disappointment - it arrived cold and the pork sausage was undercooked. The blackboard menu on the wall has no price list so when the bill of R180 plus for the meal arrived it was a shock. Will not be eating there again.. Sorry Honeybun!
Love, love, love Honeybun! I've always driven past it & just had to try their food out last week. Delicious, fresh & appetizing fruit smoothies & food! Great place to have a quick lunch.

This is such a cute little spot in Obz especially for breakfast. I had the omelette that was prepared exactly how I like it and a iced cappuccino. The service was also very good.
Stacey Maguire
Amazing little place that makes you feel at home with the most amazing, good quality and affordable menu! This is my only breakfast spot I will go to! 😊

Such a cute place!! Perfect for a quiet Sunday breakfast. The coffee is amazing and the omelettes are the best I've ever had 😍 A must try!!

Amazing breakfast, I had a croissant stuffed with bacon and mozzarella while my friend had the French toast with bacon and honey. Freshly made juice and skinnies. The ambience is peaceful and relaxing. Well done Honey Bun. We will be back soon. X

Aside from their faultless Strawbana smoothie I enjoy regularly, today I tried something new. They have a butternut bowl (yes literally) full of quinoa, zuccinini, feta and roasted pumpkin seeds. To say this was the BEST SALAD EVER would be an understatement. Truly spectacular. There has not been one occasion at Honeybun where I have felt the service, food or vibe was lacking. Best place to come visit in Obs if you keen for a decent, well priced meal and smiles in abundance. Keep it up guys, you're awesome!

When I was studying at the knowledge workshop in obs I became a regular visitor to Honeybun for their beetroot and carrot juices, wraps and take away coffee's.

I recommend anything and everything on their menu, what I love is that they also have healthy substitutes.

Popped in here as I was in the area, for a quick lunch while running errands. What a great find! The food was absolutely delicious. The service was speedy and my waitress was so friendly. The prices are also very good. I'll be back for sure.
