Review Hog House - Cape Town Central

This is an extraordinary cafe! From the drinks to the amazing tasty, nutritious breakfasts. I recommend the rock rabbit drink which is a fresh pressed juice with a very tasty apple danish on the side. Some items are a little expensive, but definitely worth the money! The bread will always take the cake for one of the best items on the menu, especially the sourdough.

Enjoyable dinner here this evening. Service was good and fast. Food arrived quickly and was super tasty. Well cooked and definitely tasted fresh to order! However portions were small for the prices listed. At least 3 small plates to eat a substantial meal! Overall, worth a trip here! Nice spot đŸ‘ŠđŸœ

I was deciding g on a breakfast venue while waiting out my vehicle service at Greenside motors and would not have known Hoghouse was even there had I not seen a stream of early morning patrons leaving with take away coffee in hand. Entering WOW was I not expecting this. Neat aproned staff, simple but elegant furnishings inside and out, and such a friendly and efficient waiter with breakfast served within 10 minutes of ordering. The flavor of home mades, delicious with a sprinkle of their Iconinic Sriracha Hoghouse fire starter Thai hot sauce. Thank you, Hoghouse team I shall recommend and shall definitely be back.

Authentic brewery doing a great beer tasting experience but the smoked barbecue is a treat. Spareribs are a delight, the jalapeño poppers with the smoked cheese filling is excellent and the hand cut chips are epic. And if you have a sweet tooth the pecan pie deserves 10 stars.

The service and atmosphere are great, definitely worthwhile stopping here for a bite. The food was a little underwhelming after hearing great reviews. I had a brisket sandwich which had maybe one thin slice of meat which wasn’t too flavourful. The hand cut fries with the garlic aioli was good. Had a hot chocolate which was great and comes with chocolate cookie :). The hazel nut pastel de nata was incredible. From this I assume they’re baked goods must be good so would definitely like to try more.

Great place. It is one of those hidden gems. Fantastic pastries. Fresh and tasty food and wonderful coffee. The quality and standard of food 10/10. Very friendly and helpful staff. We will definitely be back

What a delightful gastronomical experience! Hoghouse's food is prepared with absolute love and the waiting staff are very polite. This is a gem of a place and ideal for a break from life, a casual meeting place or just a place to hang out with hearts-folks. Hoghouse also has its own beers, gin, hot sauce and bbq sauce, among other goodies. If you are in the area and want to visit, I would strongly recommend them.

Such an awesome little gem. Lovely layout which includes both indoor and outdoor seating. There are work areas for anyone needing it and an amazing coffee / croissant combo â˜•đŸ„. Actually, everything is deliciousđŸ€đŸ˜‹ Great selection of products and everything is freshly baked. Staff are always friendly and efficient😊

Such a great spot, the look and feel is great. The toilets are clean. Wi-Fi is fast and reliable. Food is delicious. Staff is friendly and helpful. Coffee is not my fave.

After reading about their Pastei de Nata we had to go try out the Hoghouse and so happy to confirm that this is one of the best there is. The service is different in that you can get a seat and look at the menu but you must place your order at the front desk. I had the brisket sandwich which was good. Some menu items ( like the pulled Pork burger) are only available after 11:30 and they will not place order before that time. The restaurant is in the industrial area in Ndabeni / Pinelands - so no pretty views or anything. There's parking across the road in an empty plot.

Had the most amazing brisket sandwich and cup of coffee here! It was really the best sandwich I have ever had and the coffee is fresh brewed and strong! Unfortunately wasn’t staying long enough to try the beers.

In the heart of an industrial area you'll discover this gem. The quality of their ingredients, range of delicious meals and beers make this a great spot for everyone. The staff are well trained, friendly and they were as always, accommodating. My mother-in-law had a great birthday breakfast with a lovely slice of cake which made her day feel extra specials. Thank you hoghouse team!

what en experience! i could enjoy the full program of nice and delicious meat directly coming from the huge ‚oven‘. but of course - i was there because of the beer. which is amazingly good. i had the chance to see behind the doors and could also met the person behind all those beer varieties - just wow! the atmosphere is also super cool. there is a lot of parking space available and the wibe of people is very chilled. see you soon! definitly five star

A must-visit coffee shop in Cape Town from Monday to Saturdays, known for its mouthwatering Pasteis De Nata. For toastie enthusiasts, the search for a better one will take you far. The smoke house and brewery open on Friday evening, offering small plates of food in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff, ensuring the best Friday night experience. We love the Friday night experience, but you must book ahead of time.

Friday 4 August, taxi strike no staff + unexpected rush of patrons: the leftover staff were run off their feet and, despite very slow service they did extremely well, food quality good. 4 not 5 because I question value for money, had a greedily over-priced toasted chicken - R110!
Duncan Alfreds
It's a pretty chilled place with more diversity than you would expect. The food is an experience and they smoke all kinds of meat as tapas essentially. Order the burnt ends and flight beer - you can thank me later. There's nothing bad on the menu but it's the kind of place to should eat at often, because your waistline will punish you if you do it too often.

Delicious! I'm dairy free and chef was willing to make my eggs without butter or milk. Vegan hot chocolate was amazing too. Lovely environment and all round very great first experience. I'll definitely be back.

celebrated my one year here tonight! Thank you to Mikayla (and her twin lol)! Such super stars and couldn’t have had a better time ❀

Absolutely love this restaurant and Cafe. Went to the restaurant on the Friday evening with my son Luke and when I went back there on the Saturday and Tuesday the waiter remembered me. Food Absolutely amazing. You have to book for the restaurant otherwise you will be disappointed when you just arrive. The pastries are a must to taste and if you love sourdough bread then this is definitely the place to be!

A little tricky to find, and although arriving at this unusual location and being greeted by a parking attendant with a B-I-G personality, directing us to a parking spot near twinkling lights and welcoming laughter may seem to hold the promise of a magical evening, everything goes flat from here and there’s nowhere nearby to escape to. <br/><br/>We are lead to a table upstairs in the naughty corner with a pristine view of a white wall and there’s no negotiating a better seat. We are in time-out. Not sure why. Behind us, for the enitire duration of our meal, the upstairs section is empty, bar one table. Our aloof ‘swiss’ waitress is permanently missing in action, every now and then we manage to flag her down for attention. <br/><br/>Everything, but everything, including our vegeterian nachos snack tastes of smoke, liquid smoke perhaps? Pervasive and unnatural.<br/><br/>Our ribs were so-so, it’s the reason we came, but certainly did not persuade us to return. <br/><br/>We don’t get the hype of this place. No pics were taken here. It was really just not inspiring. <br/><br/>***** the soap in the bathroom is nice.

What a lovely experience it was at the hoghouse brewing company the setting is very cozy and warm the service is absolutely wonderfull .The food was really good I love the the way the food is served its so simple but the food and ingredients are celebrated my partner and I had the pig tails and chilli poppers to start of with the chilli poppers stole the show it was so so so good I also had the brisket which was also very juicy and soft. This is such a lovely place for a date or even catch up with friends the atmosphere is also very lively but not loud. I would recommend this spot to the meat lovers you guys would have a ball.

What a fabulous hidden gem. Experienced the once a month beer tasting, and it was fabulous.<br/>Not much of a beer drinker but this was good stuff. And the food... what a pleasant surprise! Great flavours and tasty dishes - both meaty and vegetarian. <br/>This place is definitely not to be missed. <br/>

Visited Hoghouse for an early dinner last night. The setting is in an industrial area which is unsual. But upon entering the gate, the friendly and humorous parking attendant greeted us and directed us to the closed off parking area directly in front of the restaurant. <br/><br/>Upon entering we were seated at the first front table in front of a large window which allowed natural light to flood in. I like the decor of the place. The tiny plants and string lights are a nice touch too and I like that they incorporate their products as part of the decor (for example, the sauce bottles lined up against the wall). <br/><br/>For drinks we ordered a range of soft drinks and one of our fellow diners opted for pilsner beer. Really good brew - this particular one is refreshing and light. We were told that they brew the beers at the restaurant and they even have a whole separate menu just dedicated to drinks. Our waitress was sweet, enthusiastic and actually took time to explain the entire menu to us and suggested that we try to buy meats and sides separately so everyone at the table can try a bit of everything. We opted for the chicken wings (coated with a honey, soy and siracha sauce), brisket, 400g ribs, and 300g pork belly. The sides we opted for included handcut fries, onion rings and truffle aioli. The meat was cooked to PERFECTION. The knife barely had to even cut through the brisket. Excellent basting on the ribs and chicken wings. Pork belly was delicious and topped with the best crackling I've ever tasted. The fries were crispy and wonderfully golden, onion rings were slightly oily but delicious and generous. The truffle aioli is life and you will be tempted to smother it over everything because it's just that good! At some point one of the waiters handed me a steak knife without having to ask and the waiters tended to 'hover' around customers. So that was strange but it just shows how attentive they are to the customers needs. <br/><br/>I would highly recommend this place. The food and drinks are outstanding, service is efficient and informative and the setting/decor is pretty quirky and cool. Thanks to the Hoghouse for a wonderful meal. 5 stars well deserved.

This is definitely one of our favourite spots. It has just so much to offer. Great drinks specials. Value for money of note with their nachos. The quality of food exceptional, and they have a strong selection of beers brewed on site. <br/><br/>The venue is super pleasant, they have an outside section nestled by fire wood and then the inside is also beautifully executed. <br/><br/>I find their efforts with their events particularly impressive. They are constantly busy with pairing and tasting events, with great prizes up for grabs. <br/><br/>Staff is awesome with a great parking attendant to greet us at the gate. <br/><br/>Really one for the books.
Brian
Unusual location, upon arriving you welcomed by a very friendly parking attendant who is up to date with all reservations and who guides you to secure parking. Admittedly I was expecting large open space with bench seating, open fires and with views of the relevant orders been cut to order. Certainly not the case, however all in all does not disappoint, service is good, pork belly for the win, pricing is fair, however cost can run away as naturally you want to taste everything. Suited for large group of friends who want to relax and have fun, limited beverage menu. Worth a visit.
Clare Ford
Hidden in Ndabeni Industrial is this little gem. Delicious BBQ and sides. They also have a range of craft beers and a small selection of cocktails. Excellent Portuguese custard tarts. Not recommended for vegetarians although they do have salads and a number of vegetarian side dishes. Service is excellent including the parking security guard. Parking is limited. Booking essential.

Good food makes me very happy. The food at Hoghouse is so good, it made me laugh! It is (literally) smokin'. Although the veg section is fabulous, tasty and inventive, it is all about the meat- the tastiest cuts, sourced properly, hung properly and then mostly slow-smoked. The brisket is the bomb, meltingly tender and unctuous. The pulled lamb is really good, and the miso pork neck and ribs, too. They also make great beer and the bread is stonking. I took home a loaf of potato-beer-sourdough that is better than the one I make at home, and which could be eaten untoasted 3 days later(really unusual for artisan bread). It is a lovely place for sharing and tasting food. The meat is priced by the 100gr, and service is really swift, so the four of us ordered a selection of 100gr portions (with fab veg sides) and then called for more of what we loved (the brisket!). The starters are also imaginative and tasty, good bar-snack food: we shared some mushroom arranchini (fried risotto balls) which were lovely, and some pigs tails (crackling with small bones), and the croquette, which were the winners-melting boerenkaas and bacon in a crispy, hot deep-fried ball, with kimchi mayo dipping sauce. They should bottle and sell that sauce, if we had found a way to secrete the leftovers in our handbags, we would have taken it home. We shared a selection of the veg sides- the braai brood (artisan fire-toasted sarmie, cheese and onion), the roasted cauliflower, the sweet potato and the seared cos lettuce (with dates and almonds and feta, smoky and tasty). I would go back to try all of the others.  The restaurant is in odd industrial area, but the diners were not deterred and the place was busy. Its a welcoming spot, service is friendly, efficient and well-informed, and we will be back. We ended the meal by sharing the best Portuguese custard tarts I have ever tasted, and I have tasted quite a few. Yum. Our meal for four, including drinks, pud and tip, came to R1000.

Super! A South African friend of mine suggested me this restaurant to experience local food with a twist, and not the usual cape malay cusine. I now understand the love of capetonians for their meat! What an explosion of flavours! Their menu revolves around pork, beef and potatos , and they are all very juicy. I ended my (not so light but who cares) meal with two European specialities, gelato and pasteis de nata, both at the levels of the Italian and Portuguese excellency ! Thumbs up!
Natalie21j
A friend's friend raved about this place and so my expectations were high unfortunately the food was good but not great. The sides were actually better than the actual roasts .. loved the roasted cauliflower and sweet potato. <br/>A big issue we had with the place was that there was a dog upstairs which is not a ventilated area in winter which is unhygienic. <br/>The craft beers were good.
Andrew Campbell
Enjoyed this spot for the first time with a group of investment mates. The bring-a-whole-lot-of-dishes, hoover down craft beers, and sit at wooden tables and benches made it a decidedly non-typical investment type dinner. Perfect!<br/><br/>Given the number of us there (12) and only a few who had been there before, we ordered most things, covering rib eye, porkbelly, pork neck, lamb, poppers, vegetarian options, and more beer and wine. The sides were also good, especially the chips and onion rings. <br/><br/>I particularly like pork neck, but found it to be the only disappointing dish (being a little too thin and fairly tasteless, probably due to the style of pork steak rather than slow cooked).<br/><br/>The atmosphere was relaxed, service attentive, and tolerance abounded when we got past sufficient wine intake, and our oldest member started doing headstands on the bench and table. <br/><br/>Next time I'll be a little more selective, and try and stop my eyes being bigger than my stomach. The food is great, but a lot of juicy meat without a few healthy sides can be a bit rich if you're greedy.
Edgar Lutaaya
Wow! A meat-lovers paradise! From the friendly security guard to the timeous service it's a great night out. Prepare to be ruined, this is the only way to eat meat.
Nicole Hapgood-Strickland
Best tapas and beer. Outstanding meal every time we go. Venue is super trendy, love the fireplace in winter. Must have the mushroom and risotto balls. The butternut maple syrup is so decadent, I eat it as dessert!

First time here; went for a birthday dinner.Food and overall atmosphere of the restaurant was really good. Was super warm though because they had a fire inside, made it cosy too. My Guests also thoroughly enjoyed this new restaurant and would definitely go back again to try other things on the menu. Everyone was satisfied with their meal and service. Would definitely recommend this little hidden gem in Pinelands :) portions may look small but they actually are very filling because you order different dishes to make a whole meal.
Alan Hooper
The security guard came out tops, as for the rest very disappointing, service was incredibly slow to the point we had to call our waiter over to take our order. The food was horribly over-priced. Definitely won't recommend or return.
Lynsay Sampson
The security guard is warm and professional and immediately makes you feel welcome as you drive into the complex. Inside it's cosy with a fire place but we found it to be too bright. The sides are the highlight - enough to share for two but quite pricey and can quickly make the bill escalate. The general conscious among our table is that the ribs were dry and that the restaurant undelivered in terms of quantity for mains. The buttermilk chicken delivered the best value. <br/>I probably wouldn't be back. Pity cause it's pretty close by. <br/>Ps: They offer corkage at R50.
Ryan Wood
I found the food to be below average and over priced. The nachos were dry and the buffalo wings tasted like they are cooked in just tabasco sauce. Not a great experience. Won't be returning.

We've been to quite a few craft/micro breweries around the world. Our experience has been that, understandably, the focus is the beer. The food usually seems to be an afterthought. Not so at Hoghouse. The owner clearly feels as passionate about his food as he does his beer. We had the brisket, miso pork neck, green salad and harissa roasted carrots.. paired with the saison and IPA. Everything was unbelievably good. Also on the menu was something we had never heard of, Beer Schnapps, a spirit distilled from beer. So smooth. You really should bottle it to sell! And let us know when you do! Thanks for a memorable dining experience. Beer, food, service, ambience.. all 5 star.
Andrew S
Forget everything you think you know about brisket and treat yourself to a meal at Hoghouse!<br/>You will keep it secret from your friends, it's THAT good!
Ant Gird
Amazing meat, great beer, great bread. A good place to go with a bunch of people. Order everything and share. Do not forget to order the pasteis de Nata - best we've ever had.
Tracy Thompson
After being hyped up by a group of friends I must say I was a bit disappointed.<br/><br/>To be honest, the food never lived up to my expectations, but then again I have high expectations when it comes to all things meat and especially pork.<br/><br/>The starter portions were small compared to other establishments, we had the ariancini and wings, as well as pig tails {which were too chewy.}<br/><br/>The best thing about the pulled pork bun was the smoked jalapeño chilli at the top. I love chillies.<br/><br/>The mac and cheese side, although yummy, was again such a small portion. The brisket too could have been slightly more pull apart tender, again, still tasty though.<br/><br/>Best thing about the evening...seeing old friends and of course onion rings {which was amazing} ...and the beer, the beer was good. I like beer.<br/><br/>*forgot to take photos of the other dishes...because #beer<br/>

Fun , super tasty , unique. It's clear there's a chef with very good taste buds in this place. Not one dish lacks of flavour. They have excellent briskets, aubergines, smoked meatballs, and very good gelato for dessert. We had a perfect evening with friends
Janine Thomas
Always a group favorite. We love the atmosphere and the food is aaaalways amazing. Whenever you're in the mood for extremely tender meat, this is the place to go. The meat truly is the "melt in your mouth" experience. They also have lovely drinks options. It fills up quite quickly so booking is essential.
Meegan Kieffer
This is my kind of pub. Modern surroundings, great vibe and friendly service. Our table did a food share ordering a selection of meats and sides. The buttermilk chicken was tasty but could have done with a little more flavour, the charred butternut was yummy but borderline dessert. Overall it was good but it was pricey for pub food. However I would return.
Cheryl Niks
I had the scotch eggs with black pudding. It's the best scotch egg I have ever eaten!<br/>Veggies were lovely and unusual. <br/>I loved all of it. And the G&T was perfection too! Highly recommend a visit. We sat at the bar and could see all the cooking going on in the kitchen. Very slick team headed by a talented chef who knows flavours.
Kevin Brown
It's a great venue secreted away in Ndabeni. The food and locally brewed beer excellent. It's a altogether unique experience compared to your run of the mill restaurants. The meat was tender and well prepared as were the local breads. I'd recommend this venue to anyone.
Lauren Rawbone
Such a fun night out! Was pleasantly surprised when I made the drive out to Ndabeni. Hoghouse brewery have a great selection of drinks (lots of local options, including local gins!) and their beer was fantastic. The menu is original and there is something for everyone. Lots of new spins on old favs like Mac and cheese. Highly recommend the beef brisket, pulled pork and the burnt brisket ends - all amazing! Sides are great too. Will definitely be back!
Megan Bellinger
A friend organised dinner here, and after all the hype we'd heard I.was keen to try!<br/>It's quite small inside, but an inviting bustling vibe. <br/>Our waitress was very friendly, and when I asked if they had cider, she glady got one for me even though.it had been taken off their new menu. The cider was one I had never had or seen before, Mind the Gap, and quite tasty! Others tried some of their unique brewed beers.<br/>The menu is split into snacks, main meats and sides.<br/>My boyfriend and I shared a selection to.ry out some goodies. The burnt brisket ends were amazing!! The sides are also pretty much on par with the mains and all have a unique twist. I wish they had another chicken option too though. <br/>The bill can add up quickly, so go.expecting to pay a bit more. Very tasty food and I'm glad I tried it.<br/>Oh, and they are also on the merchandise bandwagon, so grab yourself a trucker cap if you're a fan ;)<br/>

*Edit: I have been back countless times after moving to Pinelands. This has become our go-to when you feel for something but don’t quite know what, Hoghouse will hit the spot. Always helps looking at the board for specials, they never disappoint. We have sampled almost everything on the menu. The sides are all vegetarian, and they are good portion sizes, with one or two sides being as filling as a whole meal. Staff are always very friendly and helpful! Who still goes by 5 these days...100 stars! I honestly can’t say enough great things about this hidden gem other than that it really is, a gem!*<br/><br/>One of those places you wish you'd heard about sooner! <br/><br/>I got taken here as a surprise for my birthday because Zen knew I had been craving some all American smokehouse type food after watching "Diners, Drive-in's & Dives" one too many times.<br/><br/>It's advised that you book early, as seats fill up quickly at the popular joint (don't I sound like Guy Fieri already 😂). We were seated promptly at the large table upstairs, and our drinks order was taken. I opted for the gin with house made tonic and Zen got a beer. We ordered the chicharones to snack on while we waited for our friends to arrive. The crackling was super light, crunchy and paired well with the spicy sprinkling. The house made tonic was spectacular! It brought out so many of the wonderful botanicals in the gin, so good I had two! We then ordered the nachos and guac, as our friends still hadn't arrived (thank guys, top mates!) the chips were reminiscent of Chipotle's, light and crunchy with just the right amount of salt. The guac was fresh and flavorful, but I wish there was more. It was served in a tiny bowl, so tiny that I had to ration Zen's dipping!<br/><br/>When our friends finally arrived we got started on our mains. We opted for buttermilk fried chicken, beef brisket, spare rib, and lamb shoulder served with a side of hand cut fries with truffle aioli and charred butternut with maple syrup and pecans. HEAVEN!!<br/><br/>The meat was perfection and the buttermilk fried chicken had a crispy, spicy coating that dreams are made of. The hand cut fries were a bit too thick for my liking (but I'm fussy when it comes to spuds) and the butternut was super decadent.<br/><br/>I also had one of their house made pineapple juices with gin, definitely something you can't go wrong with. This was super light and refreshing after such a hearty meal. <br/><br/>It's a little bit on the pricey side if you order as much as we do, but boy is it worth it! This is such a hidden gem with great food and an awesome look & feel, will definitely be back!
Rene Fritz
This place is absolutely amazing!!!!! The food has been perfect every single time I've been there. The drinks are top notch as they basically make it all themselves and the service is excellent. I've been there a few times and I'll go back there every single time. I recommend them to everyone I meet and I've not heard a bad word spoken about this place. Well done 🎉

The Hoghouse Brewing Co. catered for our company party yesterday. The food was delicious and in tune with our Oktoberfest theme. The bar men and waiters were also incredibly friendly!
Lauren Arendse
A hidden gem for meat lovers and vegetarians alike.<br/><br/>The food is the bees knees. From the wide selection of starters, meats and sides, dessert (flavours) and even their beers (home brewed), wines (unlabelled secrets) and in-house G&T - everything seems to have been carefully selected to make up their epic menu. If I was forced to choose, my favorites are arancini, buttermilk fried chicken, brisket burnt ends and lets not forget their South African made artisan ice cream.<br/>Great quality food, in a pub grill house settling with wonderful service.
Landi Smith
I really enjoyed the vibe at Hoghouse. The decor is very typical of Cape Town, which I absolutely love. The service was great and we were checked up on regularly. The food arrived fast. The jalapeno poppers were definitely the highlight of the evening. It is a little pricey, but worth it for special occasions. Also the bathrooms are super clean and neat, which is a big plus.
Dawn Gottgens
I really enjoyed the casual atmosphere & decor at The Hoghouse; a few big wooden tables with benches and then high cocktail tables with stools. The bar is extremely attractive also with clean lines. My husband doesn't usually enjoy craft beer but he really found these beers delicious and smooth. We enjoyed the food but found that everything started to taste the same after a while because everything has the smoked flavor. However, we did really enjoy the vegetable dishes, especially the Aubergine bake and the charred butternut. The starters we liked the most were the burnt ends and the beef croquettes. Our best main courses were the pulled pork and pork belly. Our worst were the pork ribs which we found very underwhelming. We all had ice cream cones for dessert which were delicious but quite expensive at R40 a fairly small scoop. We had a wonderful waiter, Luke, who was attentive and knowledgable about the menu. We found the evening enjoyable on the whole but a bit expensive at -+ R400 per head, including drinks.
Bonnie Stuchbury
A really awesome restaurant! The food was all delicious and well presented, I wasnt expecting the vegetables to be so delicious. The portions are small so you can order lots of options and share.<br/><br/>We had the pigs tails, burnt ends of brisket, pork belly and fried chicken with brushless sprouts, carrots and pumpkins sides.<br/><br/>For dessert they have a couple of tarts to choose from, we had the caramel and chocolate option so which were delicous.<br/><br/>The area is safe, which I was initially worried about.<br/><br/>The restaurant has big fire place but I still found it pretty cold.<br/><br/>The service was good and attentive
Tracy Poulter
I cant say that I was overly impressed with this place and not what I was expecting at all. It's Trendy it's very much Cape Town and it's laid back but quality wise I was expecting quite a bit more. We were a table of 14 people and were told to order different dishes and they serve it as a platter presentation... Nice Idea when you are a small group of 4, that way everyone gets to taste the different dishes but NOT a great idea when you are a big number as it becomes a "Vikings" experience and you almost end up fighting for a piece :) <br/><br/>They lady that helped us didn't quite give the correct information and therefor we had order short portions and would recommend that the staff have a better knowledge of the concept before giving recommendations. Management were great at assisting though! <br/><br/>The prices are a little high for the portion sizes but the food flavors were absolutely amazing! Venue? A little too cramped for my style...

There are few occasions that you find yourself wandering at a glass. At its pure magnificence, by that I don't only mean the content within it but it's form and its craftsmanship. A thin stemmed (twig like stem) branching into an ocean of volume. My friend/companion and foodie at heart / Third Culture Partner had a Belfield blend (Cab Sav/ Merlot/ Shiraz blend) that I describe as warm chocolate in a mug-literally tasted like one! While I sipped on the warhog(stand to be corrected) craft beer that was bitter but cold enough to drink... Sitting at the bar lit by upside down enamel plates that now function as a serving of light, retro lamp shades noting the modern feel of the space... We sat waiting for a table. Having called a couple of hours before, I must warn you to make a reservation atleast 48hours prior to the Thursday thirst, planning is key I'm reminded in a hospitable manor as all waiters are kind and eager to ensure you feel welcome and pleased whether at the bar counter or at a table! Matt (host) is friendly.. You might not have a reservation but his sure to make you feel like a table will avail soon even though hope is bleak ( I appreciate that) for snacks in this pub/grill turned elegant and far less grotesque in the setting that's predominantly industrial (Pinelands/Endabeni) we had Prunes wrapped in bacon and fried to a crisp first bite and a mushy sweet center and Pig Tails in a mustard crispy crust! Most food seem fried or three times baked then fried but I assume this is pub (Brewery) meals so in that sense they stay true to that nature? <br/><br/>For mains we ordered the Pork Belly and the Lamb Shoulder (crispy fatty perfection) the waiter suggested the Cauliflower side (cauliflower like your mama never made it and you wish she did cause you'd turned out to be a better person) I've never said that about Cauliflower and I don't think I ever will! We ordered a side of chips (they say hand cut but I'm sure they meant wedges, but that's minor in this experience). Engulfed in convo and mouthful pauses... We were attentively given the space to eat, speak and order. Never feeling at loss of attention or at need for another glass! A big thank you to the staff/hosts for establishing this fine line in dining communication. <br/><br/>Didn't stick around for dessert as time didn't allow. Would have loved to try a cocktail or two but that I'll save for another day. I'm a happy trooper for having stumbled across this hideout.<br/><br/>Ps. When you arrive at the gate you are welcomed by a semi host/parking assistant who knows your name! Don't be alarmed for this is pure attention and love of your presence. It was noted and appreciated! <br/><br/>Third Culture Kid<br/>(Been a while I know but I'm out here)<br/>Xx

Food is amazing as always! PJ and team are true smokers. Tried the burnt ends and pork belly. Amazing. Starters included BBQ wings and pigs tails which was interesting but tasty.

My boyfriend and myself decided to go here for his birthday, we booked a table in advance but when we got there they wanted to put us on a communal table as they seated people at our table and those patrons despite having been told that they needed to leave by 7, hadn't. They then proceeded to offer us a table upstairs when I declined the communal table but the vibe up there wasn't great. The food wasn't bad but the beer was better. I suggest giving this place a whirl when you feel like getting boozy with some friends instead of a special occasion.
Sergé
I haven't been here yet as after my third attempt trying to book they always fully booked. I have called a week in advance at one stage but still get placed on waiting list and never get called back to me. I think I've given up on trying to make a booking...

This outstanding restaurant has served by far the best meal I have ever eaten in my life.<br/><br/>We came to celebrate hubby's birthday. And celebrate we did! We started with the "tasting flight" a selection of their 4 brilliant beers. Fantastic flavours to rival any other local brewery in SA. Hubbys fav was the Haybale Saison, a belgian farmstyle ale with a fruity nose and spicy finish. My fav was the Vampire Robust Porter, a smooth dark beer with choc and coffee aromas.<br/><br/>We started with flavoursome bbq chicken wings and wild mushroom arancini. Delicately flavored, soft centered and crispy outter shell. We had 4 mains each 100g portions. Beef brisket that melted away in delicious barbecuey moistness that ignited the tastebuds. Pork spare ribs that fell off the bone; pork belly with crispy crackling and buttery fat and meat beneath; lamb shoulder basted in a tantalising marinade so it to fell apart without the touch of a knife. The sides were hand cut chips on truffle aioli - ( I could have licked the bowl clean) and butternut roasted in maple syrup and pecan nuts.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was warm & welcoming. The team were friendly, informative and willing to share recipes and titbits that came out of the oven.<br/><br/>We shall return again and again. Nothing in Cape Town beats this awesome place.

After scanning the menu prior to arriving, I assumed average bar food was what was on offer. How wrong I was! The food was absolutely divine, wholesome, unpretentious, and delish. We had the beef brisket, port belly, pulled pork and duck, with sides of cauliflower and chips. I can quite honestly say, I have never had some divine cauliflower in my 31 years! Both myself and my dad raved about it. Trust me, the man does not rave about many dishes. The home made craft beers were top form too. A really cool little place, that I recommend trying out - you won't be disappointed!

I loooove this restaurant and can't wait to go back! <br/><br/>The vibe is so relaxing with light bulbs all around the room and I can see the fire place is going to be amazing in winter.<br/><br/>The drinks menu is honestly a highlight on its own!! Wine made especially for them, a flight of beer tastings and home made gin...all outstanding!<br/><br/>The 'snacks' starters were out of this world, I actually waaaay preferred it to the mains. I would recommend you eat tapas style :)<br/><br/>Please save space for dessert, the grape fruit meringue was the best.

This place set up is perfect. A def must for beer drinkers. There flight pack for tasting is amazing. If your lady is not a keen beer drinker I would suggest getting her the pineapple beer. Traditional pineapple beer like your grandmother made. The 16 hour slow smoked meat is divine. I suggest the brisket and the pork belly. I was disappointed because the portion sizes was very small<br/>. 100 grams is not alot I would suggest that the owners allow customers to have bigger portions of food cause sometimes I just want the brisket

Had a great time at Hoghouse. We were quite a large group so were seated upstairs. Kudos to the waiting staff for handling our big group, I was certain there would be mix ups with the food orders but it wasn't to be. To share my partner and I ordered the ribs, lamb shoulder, brisket and buttermilk fried chicken. With a side of pork n beans and potato wedges and truffle oil aioli. The beans lacked a bit of flavor, but adding some Of hog houses homemade BBQ sauce and hot sauce have it a nice kick and taste. The brisket and lamb shoulder was amazing. Great smoke and flavor. The meal went down a treat and was washed down with an ice cold hogtale African pale ale. Missed out on a higher rating because I think the pricing is a bit on the high side, especially considering these bbq cuts are generally cheap cuts of meat. All in all though a great night out with tasty food and cold beer!

Google maps took us conveniently to the front entrance where we were cordially greeted by "Lucky" who told us where to park in the courtyard. As an American (who has happily lived in CT for 16 years) and loves proper smoked, "low and slow" cooked meats I was really looking forward to our 1st visit to Hoghouse, we were definitely not disappointed! The research the owners did in understanding true "Texas barbecue" really shows. We started our meal with chips and guacamole - great tips and even better guac. We ordered a selection of meats, with our favourites being the burnt ends and the pulled pork. The pork ribs and fried chicken were a little disappointing. We enjoyed all sides that we ordered - especially liking the fried potatoes and my personal fav, the charred corn. There are some "usual" Texas sides that I'd suggest you consider serving, namely slaw, mac and cheese, collard/mustard greens and rolls and cornbread. The bread and butter pickles that come complimentary on the meat platter are some of the best I've ever tasted. <br/>The beer tasting was fun and a superb compliment to the starters and meal.<br/>Knowledgeable waitrons with excellent service too.<br/>We'll definitely be returning and will gladly bring foodie friends and people in  the trade.<br/>Well done and keep up the great work!<br/>Nelson & Susan Hill

Absolutely loved the hog house, highlights from the meal where the brisket burnt edges, the kimchi pull pork bun and strangely the salad that just pull all the goodness together. From the special the pig head is amazing!

We finally made it for dinner, and luckily they now have their liquor license (wine and beer only). We invited friends to join us, and started off with a beer tasting consisting of 4 beers. From there the beer orders were placed but I stuck to wine. We were battling to decide we ordered Pork Belly, Pulled Pork, Ribs and Beef Brisket. This they served to us on a large platter with some pickled onions which made it easy to share and taste a bit of everything. As sides we ordered Aubergine which came baked in a dish, as did the Cauliflower au Gratin. Sides if Duck Fat potatoes is an absolute must and so is the Pineapple Kimchi which has a delightful bite to it. We also ordered grilled Asparagus and Sweetcorn. The butternut was finger licking good, served in a pecan nut syrup! My absolute favorite was the Brisket...super tender and tasty with just enough fat on the meat. A true gem in Pinelands and a must if you feel in the mood for true texan style barbecue. Next time it will be the BBQ Bun for sure!!! As for staff...I can only give them full marks!! We left feeling like rolling to our cars and our wallets intact...all in all, quite affordable!

A gem hidden in a random business park in Ndabeni we struggled to find it initially & eventually called and found it pretty easily thereafter. <br/><br/>The tone for the evening was set by the awesome parking attendant / gates man at the main gate who encouraged my husband to spoil a very pregnant me and enjoy our experience with them tonight.<br/><br/>The menu seems confusing at first glance but the wait staff and management quickly got us up to scratch with the ordering method. We had the pulled pork bun, beef brisket bun, duck fat chips, the corn on the cob with goats butter, pork and beans AND A BONUS cauliflower, goats cheese, capers, shiitake mushroom concoction that will blow your mind! (The waitress accidentally brought us this cauliflower dish in error and said we can keep it on the house, it was life changing!)<br/><br/>Needless to say the we didn't finish everything it was just too much we'd over ordered and it was all delicious! The quality, flavors & service i'd gladly pay double for! Our bill (ex tip) totaled R370 including tortilla starters & drinks for two! <br/><br/>As we were about to leave we thanked the chef (or kitchen manager not sure of her title) Christine who with great enthusiasm showed us their smoker unit & in an evangelical manner spoke about how all their briskets and pork were made from scratch and preservative free. All their sauces from the Chipotle Sauce to Truffle Aoli are made on site & from scratch. They have a pretty impressive smoker unit displayed proudly out front & she explained to us how the unit worked. <br/>She also told us about their scratch made beer bread and insisted we take a loaf home with us to try in the morning! <br/><br/>All in all a pretty memorable evening, the service was great the food heavenly and for such a low key venue the experience ranks high up there with the very best in Cape Town! <br/><br/>

My first visit here and I will be back! Such a great gem in the middle of nowhere in Pinelands. Great layout, friendly staff, delicious food and tasty beer... We ordered food to share on a table of ten - ate our fill and left with our wallets in tact. Good value, great flavour...

Last night my boyfriend and I went to Hog House For the first time, WOW!! I felt like a kid on the first day of Christmas when I saw the brewery and the layout of the restaurant. And the people are just as nice, our waitress Chelsea was so friendly and absolutely awesome! <br/><br/>We had an amazing meal, I myself am not a huge meat fan, I ate everything! Even the pig's tails Whig were actually damn delicious! My boyfriend was looking at the beef brisket with more love in his eyes and I couldn't blame him, I had the same look in my eyes! <br/><br/>We will definitely be back there and I cannot wait to try your beer! <br/><br/>Thank you for an amazing night and for my meat baby!

I have been hearing all kinds of amazing things about this place, so when I finally got invited.. I was thrilled! It took a while to find it, as its hidden away in a business park - the giant shining "hoghouse" sign should've given it away, but eventually I found it! Unfortunately they don't yet have a liquor license so for the meantime its BYOB, and they don't charge corkage which is pretty cool. The atmosphere and feel of the restaurant is awesome! Very hippy and vibey, with a warm fire blazing in the corner.. It's very comfortable and homey :)<br/><br/>The food was out of this world! As we were a table of 9 we got to try a bit of everything for starters! The croquettes were amazing and so were the pigs tales (know it sounds gross.. But they're really good)<br/><br/>For my mains, I ordered the lamb shoulder, pork belly and the duck fat potatoes.. The truffle aeoli was incredible and so were the potatoes, but my pork belly was basically just fat.. Probably shouldn't have ordered it.<br/><br/>We ended off with the most amazing salted caramel gelato and a tour of the brewery! Apart from the evening being a little pricy, I really enjoyed my visit and I'm sure I'll be back again!

Food is amazing, PJ is an awesome host and the beer is great too. Awesome vibe to take some mates out before the jol or take the missus for a light meal.

A great new restaurant that delighted and surprised us. The interior is hip, the vibe is laid back and sociable, the concept is clever, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. You can order meat off the smoker per 100g. We had the pork belly, pulled pork and brisket - all succulent and tasty. You can order from a range of intriguing sides to complement your meat choices. They make an excellent green salad, and the broccoli stems were beautifully cooked. The coffee is good, but you can only order filter - no cappuccinos, lattés etc. There are a number of other interesting drink choices if you're feeling adventurous. This is a welcome breath of fresh air to our neighbourhood, and I wish them every success!

What a find. I was skeptical about the location, I mean, Ndabeni is hardly "on trend" in terms of locations. But on arrival you are greeted and directed to park off the street with the restaurant itself away from the street. The custom made smoker sits proudly out front and decor and atmosphere are perfectly put together. The meat is delectable and roasted to perfection for 16 hours. All sides sound incredible, we were delighted with our pineapple kimchi, green salad and duck fat potatoes. This is my new favorite.
