Great little spot hidden in Bree street perfect for take away lunches! The bagels were fresh (would highly recommend the poppy seed one) and there are great options to choose from. Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable. Would definitely recommend!
Their bagels are too die for. My favourite is the Lox (salmon and cream cheese). They don't have anywhere to sit and eat it there, so treat this place as an on the go stop. Very well priced too.
Max bagels is a small bagel shop on bree street, serving very good ny style bagels , just a couple of seat by the window as well as benches outside. the place is mainly for take aways … if you need a quick and tasty lunch on the go this is the place for you… the menu is covering the main fillings , you can have your bagel with , fish , meat , veggies… anyone can find what they like , theres also different types of bagels , poppy seeds , wholegrain , sesame, spelt , plain or all combined !
Shoutout to these guys for making me a new bagel after I platzed and dropped it. Really really delicious bacon avo tomato and cream cheese heaven, all wrapped up in a chewy bagel. Tysm.

Was dissapointed by the stale bagel and that they forgot the additional egg I requested in my B.A.T bagel..however all the flavours were there; Nice crisp bacon, cream cheese. Basically proper bablaz meal l...willing to give them another try.
Amazing! We were looking for something to snack on so opted to pop into this little shop for a bagel.
They have a good selection, and you can choose from plain, sesame, poppy seed or everything bagels. We chose the Reuben - they loaded it with pastrami and saukerkraut, not shy on fillings which is fab.
The staff are super friendly too. Do yourself a favour and grab one (or two) :)
I only heard of this place through Zomato otherwise it's a very small shop, easily overlooked on Bree Street. The guys behind the counter are so chilled and friendly. The turkey, brie and cranberry bagel is wow! Definitely more of a take away shop. I went in at 2.30 and they only had 3 bagels left so I think they sell out towards the afternoon.
After reading all the reviews on this place I had to try it. I was never a fan of bagels until now. I had the breakfast bagel with scrambled eggs,trout and cream cheese . It was so delicious . The only downside is there isn't much seating available. Great experience overall ,friendly ,quick service and fresh tasty bagels.
Thanks to JotterJo I came across this little gem. Awesome staff, killer beats, and yummy bagels which took me back to New York. I had the plain one with a generous smear of cream cheese- Yum. We have a winner here ladies and gentlemen!
My new favourite. Was one of the best things I've had for lunch in a long time. Everything was so good, from the simple plain bagel with a schmear of cream cheese, to the Reuben which I ordered.
I'm keen to try them all and look forward to being back soon.
Enjoyed these Bagels very much. Heard alot about Max's bagels and was not disappointed, gets a little busy during lunch times and I wouldn't recommend sitting down for a bite, it's abit tiny. But it's more of a take away vibe anyway.
First Thursday's street food vibes meant really a waft of vibrant chicken paella caught our street wondering noses then saw Sprite-y sangria. Super tasty and juicy with good toasty bits, chunks of chorizo and the best veggi- green beans. Sangria could have more fruit but good balance to the food. I'd come more regularly for that if there were more first Thursday's in a month! Also had nice benches outside to and people watch in the process of good consumption!

I had the trout, creme cheese, caper & red onion on a sesame bagel. It was absolutely delicious. Tasty, soft and very satisfying. My friends all said theirs was the best. The bacon, avo & cream cheese looked especially yummy. Will be trying that one next time!
What a hidden gem! Best bagels in CT. Bagels get made right in front of you. The BAT is my fave- bacon, avo and creme cheese. Oh my word- the creme cheese is amazing and adds the extra touch of perfection. Seating area isn't big, there are some bar stools. It's more of a take-away vibe.... like you in NYC!!

Yes, please and thank you. I finally had a chance to venture out to Bree str and try Max Bagels. I was not disappointed at all, in fact I wish I was a cow so I could eat that Salt meat, pickle and mustard bagel again. Worth every bite. More of a take away vibe but that suits me cause I hate people.
Bacon and cream cheese on a toasted sesame bagel. Literally THE best bagel I have ever had. The bagel is soft, light and toasty. The bacon perfectly crispy. And the cream cheese smooth and decadent. So so soooo yummy!!! I am officially a fan

This quirky little store made my day. The staff fitted the concept of the store and were really friendly. I've been looking for a good bagel in Cape Town and this is the best bagel I've ever had. They were fresh and the cream cheese added was delicious not to mention the generous portion of smoked salmon. I can't stop thinking about this bagel I'm craving another one.

Had to return for that delicious salmon bagel. Today the tiny little store had quite a few patrons which makes it a little cramped. The staff were nice but not as friendly as the staff that served be before. The bagel is still the best I've had in Cape Town but again not as good as the first time I visited I still recommend this place
This is bagel heaven! As a huge fan of the bagel I can safely say I've found the best in the city (and I've tried A LOT of places!) Amazing, fresh and tasty bagels with great toppings, what's not to love?
Personally the Breakfast Bagel is an absolute triumph for me with perfect ratios of everything, but really you won't be disappointed with anything on their small and cleverly thought out menu.
As for the other stuff, the service is great as is the coffee! It's a relaxed vibe and there's something pretty great about getting your bagel, a drink and perching on one of the benches outside watching Bree Street!
Best breakfast bagels ever! Perfect and filling, tasty and great value for money. Generous bacon, egg cooked to perfection - I wouldn't change a thing! Also they make a great cup of coffee ☕️

These Max Bagel people seem like pretty good bagel people. Especially when you bear in mind that searching for them in Google Street View directs you towards a brothel which, believe you me, thinks you're asking for something pretty different when you ask for a montreal-style bagel roll covered in cream cheese.

An awesome spot to grab some New York style bagels. The menu is small, but has perfect, on point flavor combinations. What I really love about Max Bagels is that they don't skimp on the fillings! They give you a selection of different bagels (poppy seed, sesame seed and plain) and then around 8-10 different filling combinations from a simple cream cheese (R20) to what I had the other day, turkey ham, Camembert, cranberry and rocket (R55) which are super reasonable prices for what you are getting! It was super delicious!! However, I would have loved a good bit more cranberry and my boyfriend noted that they put mayonnaise on the bagel which we did not read on the menu.
They also provide freshly squeezed fruit juice and coffee which is perfect for a summer or winters day.
They accept cash, card and snapscan which is convenient.
The location is small so don't expect to necessarily be able to sit down, however there is a bar-like counter with some stools and outside benches.

I had the Reuben, it looks like any bagel, but when you bite into it the crispiness of the bagels sandwiched with the right amount of pastrami, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese.

Max Bagels is a tiny little bagel shop on Bree Street that sell the best bagels in Cape Town! It might be considered a bit pricey for the meal size that you are getting but after all it is a bagel and it is delicious.
So here's the deal. I like this place a lot, and actually go quite frequently. I always get the salmon trout on an everything bagel. The pickled onions are a particularly nice touch. I spent quite a bit of time living in New York, where I became very addicted to bagels. That being said...Max's bagels are fine. They wouldn't pass for amazing in New York, but they're definitely the best bagels in Cape Town so I keep coming back.
The pros: Cute little storefront on Bree St and good service. Good bagels, not too horribly expensive.
The cons: Really aren't any, unless they get compared to New York bagels. But I'm really going to try to stop doing that...
How much is there that one can say about a delux bagel? I don't know!! What I do know is that this place treats bagels with utmost care and finesse!! For anyone looking to try a great bagel, I recommend max bagels!
I am obsessed 😍 Yummiest, biggest bagels, packed with flavour! The staff are so nice and inviting and it's always a pleasure buying a bagel from here. At first the BAT was a firm favourite but now anything with melted cheese, tomato and ham is my go to bagel filling. Sometimes the cream cheese can be a little bit overbearing but not in such way that it ruins the experience. Well worth the money. Keep it up!
I cruised here on my own a little while ago and sat at the counter staring out the window at the slightly wet grey day . Bacon, avo, tomato and cream cheese bagel with a hot Americano... perusing a nose to tail book lying around. Al Green playing in the background. The people are hip and happening and so are the bagels! Try it...Delicious!

Okay. If you haven't heard about the place then let me fill you in! Max Bagels is a New York style bar in Cape Town, Bree Street to be exact! It's absolutely fantastic! They sell some of the best bagels in town. Bagels that make you think you're in NYC. Well almost! Everything is made in-house, and that's the best part..
They are just sooo good! Freshly baked and filled up with whatever you want - well so long as it's on the menu! Last time I was there they were willing to put in extra bacon in my toasted bagel filled with salt beef brisket, pickle and lots of mustard! It was really good. #yummyinmytummy
I've had some of my all time fav bagels there - plain, spelt, poppy seed and caramelized onion. My favorite filling has to be the smoked trout with cream cheese and capers. And you know you gatta order a flat white too..

I started out as a huge fan of Max Bagels. Their salt beef bagel kinda changed my life. But lately they've gotten a little less creative with their toppings, and they are expensive. Spending R50-R60 on something that isn't that filling is quite disappointing, but they definitely satisfy bagel cravings.
By far the best bagels south of the equator. They have the classics like a B.A.T. and a smoked trout and cream cheese made right infront of you peepers. My favourite is the Ruben and they got the sour crout spot on. Its the perfect to to get rid of that munchies craving.
The first bite and your jaw goes all soft from sheer delight. Great fillings, great variety and owners that are keen to chat. We love these bagels.

Sometimes I have to doublepark as Bree St can get mighty busy around lunchtime, but so far I've never been towed or ticketed. When that day comes, it would have been worth it. In short, these bagels have the power to make monsters of men.

Picked up a breakfast bagel which was super fresh and delicious. The everything bagel was really flavoursome with different types of seeds to your standard everything bagel. Cream cheese was good quality. Would recommend!

Had the breakfast bagel. Rich filling, good taste - had the bagel with “all” on it. Tastes great. Flat white was nice as well. Price is reasonable but not cheap. Would come again for a nice Sunday breakfast!

I eat here at least twice a week whenever I come into the office. The bagels are always fresh and are generously filled. My favourites are the BAT and the Greens, but you really can't go wrong on any of them! Friendly staff and quick service, but get there early to avoid disappointment
