El Mariachi brings Mexico to Seapoint! The food and drinks are very well priced. They have a couple of Mexican-style dishes to choose from, which you can have plain or you can add a meat topping/filling to it (beef, chicken, etc). The nachos are very tasty, even just plain as a snack. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere, and you can either sit at a table or at a counter which overlooks the busy street - bit noisy maybe but it has a cool vibe. They have a couple of cocktails as well, including one which consists of a Frozen Margarita with a full bottle of Corona turned upside down into the glass - very refreshing! Even the standard Frozen Margarita's is one of the best I've ever had.

Hi everyone. I visited this cute little place 2 day's ago. Would defiantly recommend to anyone that has a taste for something spicy! 10/10 for food and service. The nacho's and jalapeno poppers was the best I ever had and I have visited many Mexican restaurants before. You can even get creative with crayons! Had such a good time and the music was great. I am truly so upset. Seeing that it is a Mexican restaurant, I expected a better Nachos meal. It is so dry, tasteless and it’s like I’m eating toasted Pastry puffs. Sorry but not spending my money or recommendations here.

Very bad service even though the food is good. What's worse is that even though we had been complaining for the 4 hour long wait for food, the manager decided not to make a single appearance to calm us down. Not will never go back there again. Oh yes, this was our 2nd experience.

I took my family there today (30/12/2015), we had absolutely amazing time, the food was out of this world and as a restaurant/pub manager myself I really enjoyed it today, the service was a tad slow bjt it kinda fitted in with our schedule.
Great stuff, will definately be back on our next holiday to the Cape. Just wish we had one in Jozi.

Placed my order... burger R79. They never had it and rolls were old. Chef came to me and recommended something different... because I wanted chips and bacon (hence the burger order) he gave me that absolutely for free due to not having what I originally ordered. When the bill came I only paid for the something different R69.
It's a new place and it has potential. It's not Panchos but with the right attitude, changes and ability to want to be better it can certainly become that. Food portions are GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY

I recently purchased a Groupon deal for starters and mains for 4 at El mariachi, Main Road, Sea Point. It was HORRIBLE. From the moment we arrived we were treated like 2nd class citizens on account of the fact that we were there with a Groupon. It was thrown in our face when we were asked to be seated in the smoking section, we were not allowed to order drinks at happy hour prices and the manager explicitly told us, " how are we supposed to make money if we allow you to pay happy hour prices for cocktails when you're already here with a Groupon? " Further to that he told us we could "sit there thirsty " if we didn't want to pay full price. Honestly, the food was lovely! But the service was appalling. We waited 2 hours for our main course! ! ! Apparently the chef had not pitched...not sure how our starters were served in an acceptable time then. At the end of the evening our waitress discounted our drinks to happy hour prices on account of the 2 hour wait. This didn't change anything : we were insulted and treated like something the cat had dragged in all because we were redeeming a Groupon it seems. Why advertise on Groupon if this is how you treat clients who purchase it?

I went there even after reading some disappointment reviews, I entered got a warm welcome ordered the food, got a bit delayed in delivering it to me considering only 3 tables were occupied at that time and the chefs were busy talking themselves anf making funnof each other instead of cooking food, still the food was delicious a true maxican food which made me overlook for delayed service while giving review score. Overall a nice experience and delicious maxican food.

We visited and had a great time! The chilli-poppers were delicious, as were the mains (we had pulled pork burritos). The food overall is spicy with flavour which we loved, not just hot!! We also enjoyed the frozen margaritas. The staff were friendly and loved the relaxed atmosphere.

A few of my close friends and I were looking for a couple of drinks and some good chow on a Friday after work and came across El Mariachi's Liberado Special. We got eight jalapeno poppers (yes that's right, 8!) and a Liberado tequila flavoured beer for R50. Honestly the best R100 I ever spent (I bought two specials because they were so good). The poppers were just spicy enough and served with great sauces! I didn't get anything else on the menu but my friends did and they seemed to enjoy what they ordered. I would definitely go back even if the special wasn't on any longer! Keep it up guys

The food is really good and the drinks are reasonably priced. The service was very slow even though the restaurant was empty. The manager was being rude to the staff and generally slowing things down. Would still eat here again but not if you have anywhere you need to be.

Simply love the food here. After visiting Mexico on a weekly basis for 8 months while working abroad,i can vouch for this restaurant if you looking for that authentic Mexican cuisine. I normally stick to my favourite, that being the the Chilli Poppers(stuffed jelapeno with cheese)as my starter and my main which is the Chicken Burrito(very spicy but damn good). Staff are very friendly and efficient including the ladies in the kitchen. Cynthia my normal waitress whom i request all times if shes working is on top of her game and is a gem to this place. The only reason i have not given them a 5 star rating is because they stopped the half price Wednesdays!

Mexican??? Overdosing food in cayenne pepper does not qualify as mexican. This shambles of a restaraunt does a great disservice to a fantastic Central American cuisine. Why does this place exist??? Avoid at all costs.

This must have been the strangest experience to date. Random people in and out of the restaurant, gambling. Friendly staff but the food takes so long to come out (about 40min) and we were the only people sitting in there. The staff eating kfc chicken (while cooking) in the kitchen which is visable to the customers. Random guys eating kfc in the restaurant as well. I couldn't wait to leave and just get out of there. The food is average, we had the fajitas and they were extremely hot. It was a terrible experience. I definately won't be back

We bought a groupon voucher and was VERY dissapointed and will NOT go back.<br/>We were barely greeted on arrival...the waitres had no knowledge of the menu and was unprofessional...we waited quite a while for our food (we were the only table)...we waited again - this time to pay... Minimum payment accepted via card - R100. The onsite ATM had no cash - so frustrating. I mentioned the bad and annoying service to the manager and she just walked away - NO response...<br/>The food was good but the service worse than terrible...really sad as this place has potential.<br/>I really hope the owner sees these reviews...your staff ruin your reputation and scares away lots of possible money.

For starters this place had a poor Zomato rating, so I thought I'd give a shot with the groupon I purchased. I decided to try the "chicken" Burritos and enchiladas both of which tasted reasonably ok but not great ! The greatest disappointment was the extremely poor quality of chicken. I assumed quality chicken breasts would be used for these meals , however the slimy rubbery texture probably offcuts from leg & thigh left much to be desired ! It almost tasted and had a texture of stale fish which was nauseating & very unappetizing ! Service is average , I thought the food took longer than expected given that the restaurant was near empty ! On the whole, I think there are better suited Mexican restaurants in the area. Groupon or not, I would give it a miss !<br/>

We visited El Mariachi for an early supper. Without much expectation, we were pleasantly surprised with the good service received but most importantly the great food and drinks we enjoyed. We opted for the beef and chicken quesadillas, which was delicious. Being a lover of Mexican food, I would definitely recommend this unpretentious, laid back little gem of a place to anyone to enjoy with family or friends. <br/><br/>P.S. the margaritas are amazing!!

I read the reviews before visiting el mariachi, I always do. Especially with a groupon which my dad decided to buy. The reviews left me very nervous and I didnt have the heart to tell my dad about it. Guess the restaurant peeps must have read it too and made a change as the food was so good ! The ribs I had for the starter was so soft it literally fell off the bone and it tasted SO delicious. The calamari frito as well. It was my sister's but I had most of it just because it tasted THAT good. I was a little disappointed with the fact that the fajita ingredients were all separate for you to make your own. I know some people would prefer that but I would have liked my fajitas already made, as described on the menu. Cocktails were great. Had a lovely dinner and am pleased I didnt pre-spoil it by mentioning previous reviews to la familia. Thank you :)

After reading a few good reviews about El Mariachi, I've decided to guve it a try. Unfortunately i was a bit disappointed. Ive ordered the nachos grande and a friend the chicken burrito. The burrito was average in taste. The portion of the nachos, very generous, but lacked tremendously in flavour. I was expecting it to be spicy as it's suppose to be mexican, but it was so dissappointing. Not sure whether i would go back anytime soon.

Why does it take a full hour to receive an order for two Fajita meals with only two other tables filled? The food once received was decent enough but this place definitely subscribes to the philosophy of manana . My take - hasta la vista baby. Improve the all round service if you want me back.

Was really excited about the Mexican experience ! Bought a Groupon voucher for R145 for the evening, but things only got worse from start to end. We were met with a waitress informing us that the establishment only had select items on the menu out of stock, as well as no alcohol besides frozen strawberry margherita's. So that's what we ordered with starters...Only to be left wondering why the toppings (guacamole & cream) were put on so sparingly, and sloppy. The mains were not bad, but little did we know we had to pay extra for the toppings - which the waitress indicated was included in the voucher. We called for the manager, and she rudely confronted the waitress in front of us. The waitress then changed her story and argued that we were in the wrong. Neither were able to operate the pay machine, and the manager swore in the process. All in all, more of an SA experience than Mexico

Worse Mexican food ever!! Poppers and tortilla chips were ok, but I cannot believe we were served such terrible tacos. We orders the soft shell ones with pulled pork. The pork was salty and over cooked, and the tacos tasted and smelt like cardboard. Didn't even touch them and ordered the bill. Decided to go next door to the bar for a drink and we were charged R36 for a shot of vodka. When I asked why it was so expensive, the waitress said that it was because of the tequila and margaritas being so cheap, they had to make up for it. I'm very sorry but R36 for one shot of vodka is a complete rip off. Safe to say we will never ever be back!!

I'm sorry to say that this place was a massive disappointment. The staff try hard to make a pleasant experience, but the ambience and food are severely lacking.<br/><br/>We had the chilli popper to start, which was the best thing on the menu. <br/><br/>For mains we had taco's, fajita and a burrito, all with pulled beef.<br/><br/>Apparently they don't serve soft shell taco's, even though it's on their menu. Strange. The hard shell taco's were so hard they actually were almost impossible to eat. The guacamole had clearly been squeezed out of a tube and had no flavour whatsoever. The actual filling was extremely salty and drowning in oil. The beef was tough and dry with not a Mexican flavour in sight. No cumin? <br/><br/>Will probably not be back.

I really enjoy Mexican food, but struggle with any kind of hot food. Usually I make a point to ask for super mild food. Tonight, I forgot and was worried when the chef brought the food and said "I made it extra hot for you".<br/><br/>My mouth nearly died, but I could not stop eating because the tacos were just that wonderful! My wife had the calamari, which was excellent too. It was an awesome meal.
