Review Martins - Cape Town Central

It's been awhile since going to Martins. I went for afternoon coffee and cake. I was very impressed with the excellent service and vast selection. Most impressive is their big range of gluten free offerings. I will definitely be back!

The breakfast is good value. Service is attentive without being obtrusive. They have some interesting baked goods in the deli including low carb.

It was joyful sight to enter a cafe displaying so much pastries in the early hour. We had a good and fast service at the terrace. It is an airy place to hang out & have our delicious morning breakfast.

I was pleasantly surprised by the service I got. I needed some meals for volunteers at 430. When I phoned they said their kitchen closed at 330 but they would make ahead and keep them warm for me. I arrived and the staff were friendly and helpful. They made me lovely coffee too. The meals were delicious. I can highly recommend the Banting burger. It was packed with flavour, lovely avo, cheese, salad and all sorts. It was an extremely pleasant experience and I would highly recommend it!

Martins Deli and Cafe is one of the best and most popular establishments in Cape Town for good reason. For a small shop there is a wide assortment of sweet and savoury treats. A personal favourite is the mini lemon meringue tart. There is also a sit down cafe with a delicious breakfast and lunch menu. Martins is also popular for its banting and gluten-free options.

Please be aware of Martins. If you think you are going in to the shop to buy one item, you will sorely be mistaken!! A bag or two is what you will step out with!! A lovely cafe/bakery and the yummiest treats ever. The friendliest staff and the goods....I will stop talking. Go visit the shop.

Popped in while out in the Diep River area. Living in the CBD, I'm surrounded by great breakfast places. Martins is right up there - fantastic breakfast and awesome baked goods.

This outlet has been praised by a few people I know and I thought of trying in person what the fuss was all about. To be fair, the place is pleasant with a very cozy feel to it and the selection of food on the menu was good. But I didn’t find the quality and presentation of dishes to be above average. In fact, I was disappointed it wasn’t because I had some expectations. I think it scores average and I didn’t find it to be anything more than just a pleasant coffee shop. Service was ok and prices are competitive.

I went to Martins for a quick banting treat. I love how you get to see all they have offer before actually deciding what you want.

I would've given them a higher rating if I didn't have to keep raising my hand inorder for someone to notice me and come serve me.

I had a chocolate cake and got cheesecake and carrot cake for takeaway(all banting friendly). I will go back for the carrot cake

Martin's has a diverse selection of goods, and their hot cross buns are really worth it. The tastiness and selection of their baked goods gets a solid 8/10.
The reason I'm not rating them highly overall is from my experiences in their coffee shop...I ordered breakfast on one occasion where there were 2 other occupied tables. It took 5 minutes for the coffee to arrive (yay!) and then we waited another 25 minutes for a croissant with scrambled eggs and a plain fried egg and bacon breakfast. Tables seated after us with the same croissant/breakfast combination ended up eating around the same time.
Separate occasions have seen many more people in the restaurant and then it's understandable that things take a little longer...it is tough to be waiting for coffee in the morning though.
Since then I've stopped for takeaway coffee and buying ciabattas etc to eat at home. The coffee is really good, steaming hot, and worth a little wait, but I don't think I'd do a sit-down again.

Worst service the ladies are rude and sarcastic , unfriendly and unhelpful they are very unorganised by the coffee machine three ladies making coffee , after adding no sugar after asking me how many sugars I want and also burning the coffee , very unhappy.

Stopped here after work and ordered a spinach and feta pie, pie was bigger than I expected and tasted delicious.will definitely go back again.Service wasn't as on point though as the woman who served me seemed disinterested and as if she had better things to do, perhaps it was the hour of the day.

Can't believe I haven't visited this bakery before as its literally down the road from home, but now I know where to come for some freshly baked goodies or a breakie for only R30. I had the eggs benedict which are either served with a potato rosti or flapjacks and having craved flapjacks, there's no doubt which option I had to choose. A few omelettes on the menu and a nice lunch selection as well.

Very simple canteen vibe. Got served the tiniest two scones ever and they didn't seem to be the typical scone dough but more of a bun. The coffee was scolding hot so I burnt my mouth. The best thing there is that they serve nice farmhouse jam.

I had a Chai Tea Latte and a French toast stack at Martins and both tasted delicious! It hit the spot and was just enough for a good brunch meal :)

So I was once again in the Plumstead area...and what better way to have lunch in visiting an old favourite, Martin's Bakery. Authentic Italian cuisine. Excellent and heart-warm breakfasts, AT A FRACTION!...with freshly brewed Italian coffee. Their sandwhiches & lunch menu is really very good. So what better way to end off with a freshly baked chocolate & nut brownie AND a date-ball. Yuuuummmy!

The best bakery in the Southern Suburbs for sure. Hands down. Nobody else comes close.

Every item they make is perfect; mouthwateringly delicious and wows me every time. They also have a very good range of bantering products, gluten free products and sugar free goodies.

They have a lively little cafe on the side serving breakfasts and light lunches. Every popular, it's hard to get a table. I had perfectly poached eggs on whole wheat roast with streaky bacon for R55. The cappuccino accompanying it was strong & hot. Perfectly priced at R20. Excellent value. Brilliant quality. Every single time.

Good Service, Good Food, Nice place. Very cozey and pleasant atmosphere.
Fresh simple wholesome food. Chicken Salad and fish cakes which was delicious

Attractive, cosy, banting-friendly deli/restaurant in suburbia with a varied menu and small luncheon buffet on offer. Quality of food is slightly above average. No licence but you can take your own wine. Please be aware that the service is shocking so this is not the place to be if you are looking for a quick lunch.

They've got some great german products here and some pretty decent breads as well but the prices are exhorbitant. Price for a sandwich thats so small. Can literally pay the same amount of money for a sandwich double the size of what they sell somewhere else. Bit of a bummer considering its really close to home. We rather drive to Raith in constantia...
Debi Malherbe
Huge selection of baked treats. Big variety of Banting goodies - pies, cakes, brownies, pizza bases...... The list goes on.

Just popped in for a quick coffee and bite to eat as I was in the area and had some time to waste. The service was ok and the coffee average. I ordered the egg and bacon croissant with cheese...yummy! Just thinking about it makes me want to go back :) it gets a 7/10 the only advice I could offer is to add more filling.

Enjoy

This landmark establishment in the area has offered good food, coffee and service for years and is always busy but not crowded. The service with a smile is good and the food always fresh and tasty. Today for lunch I had the chicken with honey mustard wrap. It came with no accompaniments apart from some rocket leaves. If was a light meal which I enjoyed but on a cool winters day would have left feeling hungry! The coffee is always good.

A great place to grab a superb breakfast or lunch and you are GUARANTEED to end up buying so many bits and bobs from the bakery. All made fresh and to die for. Frequent visitor!!!

Absolutely love the croissants for breakfast on a weekend! Have dined in for breakfast before but food was a little greasy. Tend to prefer baked goods and latte to go. Also do the most delicious to go sandwiches! Staff always friendly and helpful!

Love the experience and overall homely feel of this bakery come coffee shop. Good food with good service. A bit pricey in comparison to many other breakfast spots but worth the treat every now and again

Food is overpriced compared to portion sizes & not the best either.
That's my last visit thank you.

Got a toasted sandwich today but it was so small that I thought I had ordered from the kiddies menu. Both myself and my colleague ordered the same and got the same result.

Working close to Martins and being a supporter of the bakery means that we go there often, but paying that price for such a small sandwich is ridiculous. Come on guys. Keep the portions the same. It's not lotto.
