The most interesting, place in the heart of Cape Town! The tables are low and you sit on a million Persian scatter cushions. The food it served so you can mix and share meze and other dishes. An amazing experience especially if you go in a group !

What an experience!

First of all let me start off by saying that this was not easy to find but once found, it was we were transported to a Middle Eastern paradise.

Dim lighting helped set the mood as well as the very apt music playing in the background. They have two options for seating - normal dining table or the Mesopotamian experience on the floor, so basically a table at which you sit cross legged surrounded by beautiful carpets and pillows.

We then proceeded to order our starters- we chose the Meze Platter which is typically for two people to share but we found that it was more than enough for three of us. It includes their famous naan bread and various dips as well as Dolmades which was absolutely delicious!

In between courses we were treated to mesmerizing belly dancing and then invited to join in 🙈 what a thrilling experience! Definitely not your normal dining restaurant.

For mains we had the chicken grill mix and the lamb iskender which is basically pieces of lamb on a bed of naan bread and accompanied by tomato flavoured rice- what a treat! Every element of the plate complemented each other so so perfectly!

All in all, it was an amazing experience and I cannot wait to treat my friends and family to this amazing restaurant 🔥

I really like coming to Mesopotamia when I'm with friends who are looking for something different and interactive (the live belly dancing).

The food is pretty good (and they're Halal friendly)! They do a kebab plate with flat breads and a salad which I love ordering, everything is really tender and seasoned really well.

The service is the big let down, especially if you're a large group. They're very impatient and really force you to order writhin 10 minutes of your arrival. Another thing they don't exactly warn you about is the fee you have to pay (per head) for the belly dancers. So be warned!

A really nice place to chill out with some banter and a shisha (if you're into it).

I have been to Mesopotamia a couple of times. The first time I came here they insisted on taking our order for mains first, and by the time we had finished the mezes for the table, we were all stuffed and took the mains home as takeaways. Their lamb dishes are good, but I would recommend just coming here for the mezes instead. Not terribly impressed with the cocktails; had a Black Kurdish once and it wasn't great. Decor is great too; love the big round tray tables.

So I had my own dining experience at Mesopotamia. What a fine Kurdish evening. My party and I were very nicely impressed with their exquisite Mezze platter & filled flat breads. The food was tasty & the ambiance very relaxed. The cushions on the floor was exactly what we needed. I must say the baklava, cream & ice-cream did not dissappoint either. Definately a re-visit again.

Such a great atmosphere in Mesopotamia! Go with a bunch a friends like we did. We didnt get as far as mains and desserts but did tons of the meze dishes. Add in some cocktails, hookah pipes and belly dancers! Enough said 😀

Relaxed entertaining and delicious just a few word I would use to describe the atmosphere and food at Mesopotamia. I had been invited for a birthday celebration so we had a set menu that consisted of a meze platter for starters and the a variety of main dishes and finally dessert which was ice cream and baklava I presume. We had kids with us and they were very accommodating. The experience was very interactive with us being invited to join the belly dancer. I will definitely be returning!!!

Customer service was efficient and friendly,I was suprised myself when my order came within 3 minutes of ordering , even though it was just drinks and a pipe.
I had a Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri, and you could taste the strawberry pieces and the presentation of it was very beautiful.
The pipe on the other hand was not that great , even though we kept turning the coals and moving it around. The highlight of the night was when the belly dancer came around and let us all join in mass belly dances.

The food I can only describe as honest good food. Reminds me alot of mom's home cooking with a spicy new flair. The lamb kebab was tender & juicy. Great food!

This is one of my favourite romantic spots. It is in fact Koerdish and not Egyptian. They have tables with chairs as well as low tables with cushions on the floor. So you dress casual.. kick off your shoes .. order a Bubbly and wait for your food.

You can order Alla Carte OR a platter of food for the two of you then you get served with a little bit of everything off the menu. End it off with Turkish coffee and a Sisha Hookah Pipe.

Essential to reserve a table .. Be there at 19:00. At 21:00 they have a belly dancer.

Arriving at 19:00 you will leave at about 22/23:00

Highly recommended .. you will definitely score some browny points from your other half!

Definitely has a great vibe, and recommended for large parties. The style of eating is part of the entertainment, and the food itself has some great flavours. I would recommend this for the adventurous fun-lover.

This is a restaurant to go to with a bunch of friends or colleagues.  I love the atmostphere of sitting upstairs overlooking the CBD streets and feeling like you have been transported to a different world!  Decor suits it perfectly and sitting on big cushions and being served on huge trays adds to the appeal.  Loved all the delicious flavours of the meze platters!  Highlight is definitely the belly dancer, especially when she got some of the people we were with to join her shaking their hips!  Great vibe for a party.

We went for the first time in 2001, always being on the look out for different eateries this was on the list of must try. Today however I don't think I would be able to get down to the cushions or more importantly get up again.

The mezze platter was as expected, not being starved we didn't get any further so I cannot comment on any of the other food. I can however comment on the belly dancer who had our friend at the table dragged onto the floor to shimmy along.

A great idea but think it is really suited to a much younger crowd.

Great place with good energy, belly dancing. Make sure to book inside on the pillows. Food was tasty and spicy. Prices to steep for portion size tho.. Food also takes a while to prepare so don't go there starving..otherwise great experience

An awesome sit on the floor and eat with your hands experience. The decor and atmosphere is great, along with traditional Kurdish waiters. The food was good all round, we shared meze platters. There is not a lot in the lines of dessert, except traditional strong coffee. The belly dancers added a nice touch.

I love this place!

Been here a few times for birthday's or just a fun dinner out. My favourite is the floor section where you sit on pillows and your table is a big golden tray. I would suggest to take the set menu as it's a couple of different flat breads and a variety of dips and different dishes, that way you get to taste a bit of everything.

Just before dinner is served the belly dancers come out and do a little show, they get the crowed involved and drag you up to join them for a few moves... :-)

Food is full of flavour, the atmosphere is fun and constant laughter and the décor is perfectly suited. You can even order a hubbly to get more in the vibe.

If you haven't been there give it a shot, you wont be disappointed.

This Turkish styled restaurant located in the heart of the city was an absolute delight to celebrate 🍾 a themed birthday party. The meze platters with traditional hummus, olive and eggplant 🍆 dipping pesto to the flatbreads 🫓 which where made fresh with sesame seeds - all the food as it was served was delicious. Special mention for the beef kebabs and filet stake which was grilled to perfection and flavoursome. Really melt in the mouth with every bite. Our party of 11 also throughly enjoyed the belly dancer who kept us entertained throughout the night 🌙 Service was exceptional and attentive and staff very friendly. Thank you to everyone for a wonderful experience

Just popped in for a quick bite to eat and we ended staying a whole lot longer. Blessing and David were at our service and their friendliness and great meal suggestions was a highlight of the day for us. Thank you so much to our waiters Blessing and David for making an ordinary supper at Mesopotamia a superb experience. We hope we will see you again soon!

Fantastic menu with lots of choice and competitive prices. We ordered the grilled meet platter, corba and pide and it was 100% authentic Kurdish/Turkish food. The restaurant itself is charming and centrally located with seats outside for the summer months.

I highly recommend this hidden Kurdish restaurant gem in Cape Town for a girls night out , lunch or dinner date & sundowners with amazing Arabian Shisha. 📍 34 Burg Street Green Market Square Being a travel & food Influencer I enjoyed my visit at Mespotamia the restaurant has a great indoor & outdoor seating , myself & my friends sat outside. Our waiter was super friendly including the restaurant manager Huseyin. I’ve never tasted such an amazing chicken pasta its so creamy OMG their lamb pizza is a winner , not forgetting their affordable cocktails & best shisha which is only R165 lasts for 2hrs. Roughly R1000 is enough for 2 people it covers food , drinks ( 2 cocktails / ciders / beer each & 1 bottle of wine ) & shisha. Their entertainment of belly dancers & live music is out of this world I felt like I’m literally in Turkey 😊✨

Just have been to Mesopotamia right at Greenmarket Square in the historic heart of Cape Town. Always delicious food and the service is very good and friendly. You can outside or inside. What a pleasure to have lunch here, watching the "action" at the market and the different architectural style of the buildings around you. Lots of photo opportunities too!

Mesopotamia Kurdish Restaurant is a culinary gem. The menu showcases the rich flavors of Kurdish cuisine with dishes like kebabs and pide. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, adorned with traditional decor, adds to the authenticity. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring a memorable dining experience. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. However, it’s advisable to make a reservation, as it can get busy. Despite this, Mesopotamia stands out as a must-visit for those seeking a unique and delicious taste of Kurdish culture in a cozy setting
