Review Scarpetta - Cape Town Central

The food at Scarpetta was of a very high quality and thr portion sizes were extremely generous. I had the seven mushroom pasta which was well cooked and served in a pretty serving bowl (pictured) which we could dish out of and share, which did benefit a lot from the parmesan and a dash of additional salt. My fellow diners who opted for the gnocchi which was made out of ricotta rather than potatoes (so a gnudi to be technical) there were 2 options a lamb ragu (pictured) and a pea and leek option. I tried the pea and leek option and the dish was tasty and substantially rich, I felt quite full after 2 bites of the gnudi. The other option I tried from one of my finer companions was the truffle pasta which was out of this world. From the texture of the fettuccine to the flavour or the truffles and once again the portion size, which was massive. The truffles shaved into the serving bowl at the table, were flow in from Italy that day itself according to Rick. Among the other menu items, enjoyed by my fellow diners, were the seafood pasta which again was generous especially with the seafood. The osco busco, a mussel pasta and tiramisu (pictured) Rick is an attentive host with a personality that is larger than life which added to the experience and his great service. Rick shops daily for his restaurant and his menu is shaped by whatever inspiration he gains though this outing. Meaning the menu is constantly changing so I will definitely be coming back again to see what new and exciting items are available on his menu.

Looking for a theatrical Italian maestro, you have to visit Uncle/ Chef Ricky for his recommendation on feeding your table size with true Italian flair. The dinnerware is homely and the dishes are editorial. Be sure to go with and empty tummy and am open heart, you might end up sharing wine with the table next to you because you bring your own wine. The street parking is safe but always best to Uber And finally Don’t you dare leave without having the cannoli

Please everyone, do yourself a favour and treat yourself to an evening here! I was nervous to tell the owner that one of the table members was allergic to dairy, but he was hilarious and made him feel so welcome! The food was just amazing and we cannot wait to go back!

Always an amazing meal at Scarpetta! Keeps me coming back again and again. And my top recommendation to anyone visiting Cape Town. The host, and the food are legendary.

Ricky was a superb host of a truly unique Italian experience. No menus, just beautiful trusted Italian food, with great service and and authentic atmosphere. Highly recommend this place!

We were delighted with the chef’s choice of delicious seasonal plates. The best artichokes ever! All 5 dishes were well prepared and generously portioned, we had a mix of vegetable dishes, shell fish and red meat.

All about the food experience! Scarpetta have great food and quick efficient service. The highlight of the experience is the ongoing service you receive from the owner and head chef as he walls around his restaurant enjoying the dinner service just as much as the patrons. As explained to us the dishes can change daily or weekly which means you will always be in for a treat.

Where to begin with this place: just WOW what and experience. You are warmly greeted by Ricky when you arrive, sit and your table and then you get to wonder up to the fridge and grab whatever your table feels like (waters, soft drinks etc) as it’s BYOB - so don’t forgot to bring your own alcohol. He then runs through the menu and tells you the specials etc. The food is incredible and the portion sizes are big so we did table sharing with a few different dishes, that way you can also try array of things. The atmosphere is incredible a real Italian experience. We already booked for March when we are back in Cape Town. Thank you Ricky and the team, one of the better hidden gems in Cape Town.

A little over rated. Nice that u can take ur own wine. But a chilled atmosphere. Artichokes were delish. Not out of this world. However a terrific evening out

I have had many of these sauces and they are all fantastic ! Especially the puttanesca !!

Just had the bolognese for dinner and it was superb... Top restaurant quality...will be ordering more for sure!
