Review District Cafe - Cape Town Central

First time here and I enjoyed a nice lunch with my wife. Both of us had the cheeseburger and chips. I ordered a side of onion rings which to be honest I feel should be part of the meal and not be charged separately for it. We both enjoyed our burgers and I followed it up with a mocktail strawberry daiquiri which was very good and fruity. Parking would be the only problem for most people but otherwise worth the visit

This is one of the best halal places for steak. Probably the best steak I have ever had. My friends and enjoyed the food and Grace made us feel at home. I will definitely be back again 😁

Was initially going for breakfast and ended up ordering from the lunch menu 😅 The rest of my family ordering breakfast things tho.. so ya😁 things are a little pricey be prepared. It was good not to filling just enough 👌 Ordered the big six, eggs Bennidict, Royale, steak sandwich and chicken and mayo sandwich and the healthy breakfast🍔🥯🍳☕️🫖

The best brisket bomb burgers and pancakes ever! Will literally drive out of my way for them.

All I can say is that family ndinner night was made fantastic by the food and services. The platter for 1 is just the best I've had... The muscles, the prawns, the fish and the calamari cooked perfectly.. the fries were super crunchy yet fluffy inside. The shakes were top notch.. The staff are friendly and make you feel at home... Everything on the menu is freshly prepared so it takes time but it's well worth the wait. Deffs going back again but this time for date night....

District Cafe is not only a good breakfast lunch and supper destination. It is also an excellent choice for small intimate events, especially those that require a homely feel. The food is excellent and the team make an extra effort to ensure your event is special. The attention to detail is great and their willingness to accommodate reasonable requests is noteworthy. A great team that takes pride in what they do.

This place looked so fancy, except for the tables inside hehe. The food was okay. I didn't eat much so I can't really comment. But the food served looked great. It's a mocktail vibe so it's perfect for kosher people.

Lovely cozy store with a very relaxed ambiance. Surprising since it's on a busy road and we were there during rush hour on a Friday. The menu is pretty expansive and the staff attentive. The restaurant is bigger than it appears from the outside as there's a hidden section through the restaurant. We sat there and it's likely the reason it was so quiet. The food selection is pretty expansive and the espresso was decent. Definitely worth a few more visits. We did the Alfredo pasta and a Salmon salad. Both were too notch. Lunch was rounded off with a banana split which is more than enough to share between a couple.

Had lunch here with friends . I ordered the steak tramazini and my friends the chicken tramazini and also the smoked salmon sandwich , all meals came with chips. My friend and I swopped one part of of tramazini so I tasted the chicken one as well. The meals were not bad at all. Tasty . In my opinion very little chips were given with the meals. I ordered a premium milkshake , the Turkish delight shake. The shakes were nice , not very thick and contained actual chuncks of Turkish delight.

Such an unassuming little spot. I've lived in the area for 2 years and have walked past the establishment many times. Decided to pop in for lunch the other day, and ended up enjoying one of the best burgers I've had in a long time!! Staff are exceptionally welcoming and customer service is attentive.

Food and atmosphere are incredible, only complaint is slower than usual service.

Much better overall experience compared to the last time I was here - The food had an impressive glow-up! The service was excellent, and the setting as pretty as ever. I still find it to be a bit cramped in the main seating area, and the noise level was high, but I suppose that depends on who's visiting. Will definitely stop by again soon.

Great spot to enjoy a good Halaal meal Not a very big restaurant, so there may be a wait during busy times. Off-street parking Open till late on Friday and Saturday- perfect for a late evening meal. Service was fast during a less busy visit Great steaks, boerieroll and salad. Dessert menu includes a selection of cakes, waffles and hot drinks.

When you got out for waffles you want waffles and that’s what we tried to get at District Cafe one night. We asked for waffles and were told they don’t have any left... does this mean they serve pre made frozen waffles? Do you not have fresh batter for waffles that gets ordered. We settled for pancakes but pancakes will never be waffles.

The dry aged premium grills is where it’s at. Matured sirloin hits the spot

Overall, a very nice place. Food was good, staff was kind and helpful. Truly cannot complain about this place. Would definitely go again and try something different.

This was the 2nd time going to District Café, since my husband and I loved our first experience.<br/><br/>The first time going I had quesadillas, ice coffee shake and he a lamb burger with fries. Everything tasted amazing. The food did not disappoint and the milkshake was the best I've ever had !<br/><br/>The second time going we both decided to try the beef ribs, I had the ice coffee milkshake of course and he tried the strawberry daiquiri. Mind you be both love ribs so we were sceptical as a few other places let us down on taste. However, District Café does some of the yummiest ribs we've ever had! I had mine with normal fries and sweet potato fries, both were so good! And the milkshake topped it off.<br/><br/>My husband was a bit let down by the daiquiri as he loves them, and mentioned that it seemed more like a smoothy. Nevertheless we really enjoyed our meal and service, and will definitely be coming back for more😍💯

I’ve been visiting District Cafe for some time , and each and every time I’ve always gotten really amazing service. From the owner, to the staff members on duty, they’re all very accommodating to what we request for, as well as the food in general is really tasty. We always order the Coffee Milkshake, and it’s one of the best I’ve experienced 😌. They also have a red Velvet cupcake that is just absolutely exquisite! Really moist, and fresh 😃. If you’re in the area, do visit for some lovely food 😌

Went here today for a light meal and ordered the Smoked Chicken Wraps. To my dismay the wrap contained more lettuce inside it than any filling. To be exact 2 pieces of smoked chicken in both wraps that were ordered. With lots of sauce. If I wanted a vegetarian wrap I could of made this myself . Also the wraps at my work is R30 with more filling or just go to KFC for a wrap. Also small portions of chips like 10 in your plate

Best order on the menu: basted Fillet steak burger. You’ll never regret it. Excellent staff and personalized ownership. Always a clean and cost environment

This evening I visited district cafe for the first time... I called in to ask if we need to book but then the veri sweet lady took my details anyway just incase they got booked up. We arrived on time and got seated by one of the waitors, the space seemed a bit cramped because a floating shelf was right by my daughters head.... just as we were about to get seated a lady came to us and offered us a more spacious table in the back which was way better than the front.. we thanked her kindly... we got seated and the waiter came to take our order... he was veri sweet and told us about the steaks which they offered which were not on the menu... we were 3adults and 1child. I ordered the 250g surloin steak with sweet potato chips and a salad.. my daughter ordered the same steak with both sides of chips and her hubby ordered the tamohawk steak with both sides of chips... my smaller daughter had a chicken strips burger and chips.. she said she enjoyed her burger... my older daughter ordered her steak medium to well done and she said it was a bit tough... my S. I. L. Said his steak was perfect but most of all my steak which I ordered medium rare was yummeeliscious.. I loved the sweet potato chips... my salad had mustard topping which I would never order but wen I ate it I loved every bite...after a few minutes of bringing our food the waiter came to check on us and he was so shocked becuase our plates were empty Haaaa...a minute later another waiter came to check on us and another minute later a third waiter came to check on us..it was the funniest thing ever haaa...the food was soo good we ate it all up....I would recommend this place to all my family and friends... the atmosphere is so chilled... the service is great.... Lunch at District cafe was good, finally made time for it. Ordered the ground double beef burger and fries, they weren’t that busy so my food arrived fast. The setup and vibe was lovely and the staff was friendly. The burgers are not the best and certainly not the worst, I’m curious to return and try a lovely breakfast. Thank you.

I've been here many times and I have no complaints.<br/><br/>Food was always amazing. Service was always great.<br/>I would like the environment to be a bit more "themed" if that's even a possibility. I just mean that it's a tad too casual for the type of food that they serve. Because I feel that the environment should suit the quality of the service and food.

I had the chicken and red pepper quesadilla which came with a salsa, guacamole and cream cheese. I ordered a side of chips thinking it would be small and wouldn't fill be, I was so WRONG. It was quite big, yummy and filling. The presentations was lacking a bit though, they could've plated it a bit better I thought bit still very delicious. The chips were so yummy. The highlight of my visit was the espresso milkshake, if you like ice coffee milkshakes you should DEFINITELY try theirs! IT'S SO DELICIOUS WOW, I ordered a second one 😁<br/><br/>My husband ordered their lamb burger and asked it be fried medium and it came out perfect! He loves lambs burgers and it said it was one of the best he's had. The food came timeously and their were no hassles, it's was a lovely meal and will definitely go back again 👍👍👍👍

I've always been wanting to try this restaurant out since we drive past it on our way home each day and with it being a strictly halaal restaurant it makes it even more appealing. <br/>We went there on black Friday and were pleasantly surprised that they were having a 25% off special on their grills. Hubby and I both decided to go for the rump steak which comes with the district basting sauce and I chose to take the sweet potato fries 🍟 with a salad. The meat 🍖 was tender and juicy so was definitely enjoyable and even the salad 🥗 was delicious! <br/>The service was on the ball and the waiter even helped mopped up a milkshake spill made by our son so an even bigger 👍🏻 for this!<br/>Will definitely go back again to try out dessert 🍰 or breakfast 🍳 options.

Yesterday I popped in for a quick lunch with an old friend of mine. Firstly I was greeted by pleasant decor and a warm atmosphere.<br/>The menu is surprisingly diverse and has quite a bit to offer, which I thought was excellent. <br/><br/>I had the ground double beef burger and have to say it WAS a really decent burger, my friend having the steak roll which was also really good.<br/>Overall, whilst definitely not the best place I have been to, it was and is definitely worth a visit and I can assure you, you will enjoy a meal there.

I've been wanting to try this place since forever ! Its a cute place in Woodstock. It was quite for a Saturday night. The decor is trendy and the staff are really friendly. <br/><br/>We all had burgers and the food was quite good ! However I would have liked to taste the nuts in my burger more. I think if it was cut thicker it would have been better! But it did give a nice crunch to the burger. <br/>@ The chips also wasn't crisp enough. It seemed like it was refried or was fried some time before. <br/><br/>What I didn't like was where we were seated. It was way too in the corner. We went to sit in the other room but the aircon was on too high ! So we went back to the old place. However, I liked how attentive the waiter was and the time he took taking down each of orders and repeating them to make sure they're correct. <br/><br/>I definitely want to return here to try more of the items of their menu. <br/><br/>

Very good and easy accessible location! Such a pretty layout and I went in with high hopes as it's another halaal restaurant to add to my list. I ordered a fillet steak burger and fries. Despite being one of three tables my order took quite long and instead of fries a salad came with my meal. No biggie though as it's easy to change but then my fries only came after my meal and when my burger arrived it was ice cold. At that point I was too hungry to complain so ate the cold burger and patiently waited on the fries. This restaurant has so much potential! But I feel like the wait staff could be more attentive. And more attention to detail on the food.

Why i would travel all the way from southern suburbs during peak in rain to woodstock i dont know. But here im sitting at the district cafe at 9am. I was seated very quickly by the waiter . I think he is also the barrister. He was very much upto the task though. 2 delicious cappuccinos was set down at our table promptly. We order 2 egg benedicts on a bagel. The only disappointment was the hollandaise sauce . Was unfortunately flavourless. Other than thay a decent breakfast.

Popped in for breakfast with my boyfriend on a week day. We got in at 8:30 and although they were still opening up they got us seated and sorted to our drinks. Boyfriend had the chocochino, which was lovely and I had the hot chocolate which was decadent. To eat he had the steak trammezini, he enjoyed it but has had better. I had the chicken mayo sarmi with chips, which was okay. The spice on the chips was yummy. The food came quickly, the manager and waiter were really nice. Overall good experience, I live quite far from the café so I wouldn't go back unless I was in the area.

Service was very slow. 4 meals arrived over a 5-7 minute period. We had smoked salmon on a bagel with poached eggs, the Deluxe - eggs, mushrooms, macon, sausage, toast. Boys had waffles and pancakes<br/><br/>Had to remind them to bring 2 of the 3 drinks we ordered.<br/><br/>Poached eggs were overcooked. Rest of the food was good. Nothing really exceptional...<br/><br/>Could also do with some soft furnishings to absorb some noise. Place was full with lots of kiddies including our own. No one particularly disruptive but sound bounced off the walls, floors and furniture amplifying everything.<br/><br/>

What an awesome place! Suggested by a local friend. The steak is unbelievably good! I had the fillet. Sweet potato fries so good. Pasta was great too - tried the prawn pesto pasta. Quaint cafe with quality food. Big portions, great value!

This morning I'm stopping at District Cafe. Thumbing through their menus they certainly have a lot to offer. I wonder if a small place like this is able to deliver on each and every dish. I decided to go for the Eggs Benedict because duh if it's on the menu that's the first I try at a new place. <br/><br/>Off the bat the service was quick and staff friendly. I didn't understand clearly what the theme was for this spot decor wise as it meshes modern clean white and grey with wrought iron furniture and some pops of paisley in areas. <br/><br/>Back to my coffee, the blend used is nice and they don't burn the coffee here so that's always a big plus. My poached eggs were spot on, I was actually surprised how well they were poached. The hollandaise sauce is a bit too runny and lacks that lemon kick but the addition of the chives does give the dish something. Overall not bad.

I came here looking for something quick to eat and it was a pleasant surprise. <br/><br/>My uncle kept raving about their steak so I tried it and it was really delicious. They over cooked it the first time (I wasn't too bothered because this happens quite often at halal restaurants so I let it slide) but the second try came back perfect. It was really yum and the chips were crispy and fluffy. <br/><br/>My partner had their pasta and it wasn't anything to write to home about. It was quite bland and the sauce was quite floury. <br/><br/>I had their vanilla shake which was absolutely yum! Definitely coming around to try the other things out on their menu!

My experience at District Cafe tonight was average. The food was nothing to rave about, I had the steak and cheese sandwich which was bland to be honest, tasted almost like the steak was boiled. The cappuccino was nice though. My husband enjoyed the chicken tramezzini.

Decided to try District Cafe for breakfast and quite enjoyed the meal and atmosphere. Will definitely go back to sample more of the menu. Received great service from Tich, welcoming and friendly.

My first impression of district cafe was cute and cosy. I thoroughly enjoyed the food- I had the eggs florentine. Their menu has a variety of options and is well priced. <br/><br/>My one criticism is that the service was a bit slow, but it was during a busy Saturday morning.

Beautiful decor, and a nice and cosy spot. A bit very small as I felt as if I was sitting on the lady's lap at the table next to me. I had a chicken Napoletana pasta and it was very watery. Didn't really enjoy it. The pasta was soaked in water. However, their millshake is good and I feel like they have potential, will definitely go back and try something else on the menu. Their brownies are amazing though. 🍫

Happy with my choice of eggs Florentine. Not so happy with the service. Service was slow, the waiters had to be flagged down several times, someone I presume to be the owner/manager looked our way & he ignored us. Not once did our waiters ask if everything was saisfactory, Eventually someone came to take our additional beverage orders & only when my friend raises thes issue of being ignored did she ask is everything satisfactory. We enjoyed food & beverages but the service needs to be improved.

We arrived without a reservation at 8pm on a Saturday night and were seated. We waited over an hour for our food and drinks...even a glass of tap water. After an hour a plate of snacks arrived....we thought they were complimentary for being made to wait, only to discover we'd been charged EVEN THOUGH WE HADN'T ORDERED them. The food was AWFUL (I'm being polite)...the curry tasted like it came out of a packet. The chicken burger tasted sour! AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I was looking forward to something special, something that would have the character of District 6 perhaps. What I found was a neat & simple little cafe which could have been a bit more welcoming in the cold wet weather of today. The menu was fairly basic, nothing that one wouldn't find in other similar establishments. No signature meals on the menu. Their coffee was great though.

A halal cafe that has loads of loyal customers. I feel the food isn't what it could be but they do out do a lot of their halal competitors, it's a nice change from the normal halal joints

It was a morning where instant coffee just wasn't going to cut it, so I popped in to the District Cafe en route from a meeting and grabbed some real coffee. It trays good and the staff were friendly. Their menu looked quite extensive and the cakes on display looked delicious. Decor was lovely and there were a variety of seating options. Next time I'll have to go back for something to eat too

The food is soo good !! I will definitely eat here more than just once. Tried the steak tramezzini and it was delicious and filling. Even took home 2 massive slices of chocolate cake for dessert. Red velvet milkshake i was very sceptical about but much to my surprise it tasted yummy. Service is dreadful though. Only 1 waiter and the owner won't step from behind the counter to assist at all. <br/><br/>Came back for breakfast at District and it did not disappoint. Opted for the deluxe and my partner the benedict. Deliciousness ! And the most reasonably priced full breakfast in Cape Town

Used Zomato to find the quaint little spot in Upper Roodebloem road. The venue is cosy & the breakfast was Amazing. I had the eggs benedict with a hollandaise sauce. Service was excellent & the staff very friendly. My son was a happy chappy with the pancakes. They won him over. Will definitely be back here .

The best ribs in town! <br/><br/>I love District Cafe, you always know what you're going to get. And with the prices, well, you could eat for days. <br/><br/>With a big variety to choose from, I have to be honest and say that I hardly deviate from my regular order. I always enjoy the District beef burger followed by a portion of ribs. So satisfying. <br/><br/>The decor is simple and clean. The service, always friendly when I pop by. My only criticism would be presentation. I feel that with such tasty food, they could make it look a bit more appealing. <br/><br/>Nevertheless, this will always be on my list of go-to restaurants, just love it.

Had a great time at District Cafe. The decor is different, environment is clean and ambiance is quite relaxing. Food was great, however the quesadillas was a bit bland but the Vietnamese coffee was one of a difference! Def going back to try the rest of their menu 👍

I love places that open till late so when we arrived at 10pm and found they were still serving food, I was happy. I had the chicken salad which was tasty and really reasonably priced (R55). I've recently had salads that costed around R75 so it was great to find a decently priced place. The masala chai was not what I expected. It was a chai latte. Still good. Would like to try the Vietnamese coffee and heard the steaks good. Will be back.

Cool spot perfect for breakfast and lunch. I had a burger and chips which were tasty and reasonably priced. The ambience is light and comfortable. The staff were attentive and friendly.

Breakfast was well priced, good omelette, very small scramble eggs though. Slow service as restaurant was understaffed. Nice clean setup with a good atmosphere.
