Review Jessy's Waffles - Cape Town Central

Nafisa Akabor
I’ve heard only good things about this plant-based waffle spot so was excited to try it. I ordered the La Gringa 2.0 and my waiter suggested I add vegan cheese to the base of my savoury waffle -best decision ever. It’s gluten-free and has black beans, guacamole, corn, salsa and spicy mayo. It was beyond delicious. I don’t know how I’m going to order anything else off the menu now. Highly recommended. Excellent service. Chilled vibe. Sit outside!

Delicious vegan, gluten free waffles and flap jacks with dairy free toppings available. They went out of their way to ensure my chocolate sauce was free of nuts after I told them I have a nut allergy. The half portions were pretty filling. I will be back to try more off the menu!

They didn't have decaf coffee, so I ended up ordering a chai latte which was really delicious. My first choice of pancakes was also out of stock, but my backup choice didn't disappoint. The waffles also look and taste incredible. You must go there whether you're vegan or not.

The turmeric & ginger and beetroot lattes were exceptional! We shared a banana and maple syrup flapjack stack which was super tasty but way to rich for our liking. The waffles looked amazing amazing! (Yes we were eyeing everyone else's food.) The lattes were quick to arrive but the food took quite a while. Not a bad thing. Quality takes time. The service was quite impersonal which dampened the experience for us. Also a peak into the kitchen while paying revealed quite a mess. On a busy weekend I'd understand, but lunchtime Friday when it wasn't that busy? Definitely given it a try though. It's a wonderfully unique experience plus it's plant-based. :)

An absolute treat! A cosy little spot with a lot of character! The ingredients are sustainably sourced & you have vegan & gluten free options. A savoury section of waffles is available soon so be sure to check them out! Hands down the best waffles I've ever had!

2nd time visiting here and I can honestly say that it's a massive improvement on taste, flavours and combinations. And a huge plus that portions are huge. We shared a full portion of the savoury courgette waffle with vegan cheese, beer or hummus and avo. The of course we had dessert in the form ofa half portion Queen of Hearts, a sweet waffle topped with Berry compote and blueberries. Overall a great experience. Service could be a tad more attentive.

Probably the best waffles in Cape Town. Great toppings, and the cheesy bases for the savoury waffles are particularly revolutionary - and delicious. The prices are reasonable. The waffles are very filling, so consider a half portion. They're best eaten fresh - they're not as good when kept for later. Waiting staff are always friendly, and service was good two out of the three times I've been there. Once, when very busy, our order was forgotten; the waiters were very apologetic and solved the problem. No designated parking, but it's usually fairly easy to find parking nearby. They're in a relaxed part of Gardens, so consider walking if you're nearby.

What a joy! Vegan and gluten free waffles! Served in half or full portion. Coffee also served with soya milk or almond milk. Vegan ice cream van be added as an extra in vanilla and chocolate flavours. Quaint little seating area and the spot is opposite Dunkley Square. They are on a mission to ensure they reuse and recycle accordingly.

Yummy vegan friendly waffles and flapjacks. Dairy free alternatives as well. I would suggest calling first as there is a long wait, especially on holidays. You can have a take away if you're not willing to wait.

Lovely discovery thanks to the Entertainer! Our waffles were delicious & filling. Cute courtyard atmosphere & the cafe is dog friendly as an added bonus. We will definitely be back & are very happy to have experienced the happiness that is Jessy's Waffles.

I love this place! Its small but still cosy and the waffles are worth 5 starts! The service is great and the staff are friendly. Definitely enjoyed creating my own waffle

Almost a hidden gem; but definitely a local favourite. They offer both savory and sweet waffles - which are equally delicious in their own regard. Worth a visit; you wont go wrong.

Jessy's waffles is a wonderful place to enjoy a delicious bowl of ice cream or a thick rich waffle, savoury or sweet which ever choice you make your stomach will be satisfied. A beautiful little restaurant with an open area. The atmosphere is filled with music and joy. Great prices for homemade ice cream and waffles, especially in a city like Cape Town restaurants can overcharge but at Jessy's there's no overcharge. The serves are great, you're welcomed with open arms and a smile to make your day even brighter. I will be visiting every week. (For those of you who's first time it is, remember if you order waffle order half because it's very filling)

I am so glad that I had their very first Afternoon Tea because I got to taste sweet and savoury - and what a decadent delight! Vegan, gluten and refined sugar free tastes this good. I love the cosy space (any time you find me reading a book in a place, you know I am feeling it), the quirky vibe, and the smiles all around. I'll certainly be back for lots more of that.

Would have given 6 stars if that were and option. I’ve been back a few times, each time with someone who has never been and we are never disappointed! Great staff, amazing food and quality ingredients, plus it’s great value for money! In the food industry I recon that’s a holy trinity!

Best waffles around! Huge, delicious & the waffle of the month is always something to look forward to.

Hidden Gem, a must in Cape Town!!! You can not walk past the store without being drawn in by the sweet essence that starts exciting your senses and you find saying to yourself --- ok its treat day!!!! The best treat you can give yourself is a date with Jessys waffles!!! This store reminds me of those secret finds you get in Europe or London and now we have our very own little magical treat shop in Cape Town. Waffles are yummy, staff are friendly and Jessy just puts love into the place A must on your treat me day!!

So this weekend I had this amazing waffle from jessyswaffles and let me tell you, best waffle I have ever had. Now, this is vegan friendly and gluten free. I am not a vegan, times I go to vegan places and I'm a bit disappointed in the taste but more in the price and quantity (I don't like paying for cute food if it doesn't fill me). jessyswaffles did not disappoint at all, this waffle comes with ice cream (vegan friendly) but it was still churning, to which I got awesome coconut cream as a replacement. Half way through there was a hum in tum, that means my tummy was happy and full. And then I got complimentary ice cream. Talk about value for money, no commercializing veganism and marketing it to make profit here, but rather just making awesome tasty nom nom goodness. I shall be back soon. #vegan #waffle #berries

Menu states everything on the menu is vegan, I asked twice when ordering if the hot chocolate was definitely vegan and the waitress confirmed it was. I was then served cow's milk and when I asked the waitress why she said she thought I was asking if the hot chocolate powder was vegan. I posted this experience on Instagram and I know Jessy's Waffles saw this as I advised location but they didn't even have the decency to say sorry :-( I suggest training your staff and taking the statement off your menu where you say everything on the menu is vegan. My sister is moving overseas and we had been planning today's farewell lunch for a long time, I was so excited to try your waffles )-: However I felt so ill from the cows milk that I had to leave.

Had Jessy's Waffles today. Service was really bad, our waiter was nowhere to be seen after she took our order. We waited an hour for our waffle to come which is totally crazy. The waffle taste was fine however extremely hard I could not even cut through it with the butter knife given to us. Would have been nicer if it were softer. Other than that I love the cute look of the place and staff was friendly upon arrival.

My daughter and I are vegan and chose a sweet option to share together with a portion of ice cream. Thank goodness we decided to share as it was HUGE! We also had their tumeric and ginger latte's with almond milk which were nice and spicy. The place is very quaint and small but the service is very good and the staff very friendly! We will definitely return.

I enjoyed the waffles but am hoping the menu expands. Also. IMO I think the waffles are too thick. Regardless I enjoyed it and would recommend you visit.

What a treasure of a place! Absolutely loved the waffles, totally delicious! Well done Jessy, this is a fantastic restaurant, love the chilled vibe, and I can see you getting very very busy as people start to discover this gem!!!

The waffles were delicious plus the restaurant is pet friendly A really great place to get your sweet tooth cravings! The staff are very friendly too. I will be back.

Visited Jessys waffles during my holiday in cape town on the 27th May 2018, I was looking forward to having the most awesome waffle I've ever tasted in this life time. Only to be disappointed. The waffles took over an hour to get, i have never had wait for even a steak for so long in my life. The waffles were so hard outside and we ended up having to throw them away. Spur waffle is better than what we were served here. so disappointing...

Great little waffle joint and coffee spot! Great service and prime location! Well operated Jess 5*

Fantastic place! Tucked away off green Dunkley Square, a friendly spot serving super delicious treats (read waffles dripping with chocolate and ice-cream)... the great twist... ALL VEGAN! Pull in...

Best waffles I have tried! I really recommend it to everybody.

This place is the cats pajamas. Seriously good waffles and great value for money.

What a stunning little spot! Absolutely love the vibe and the waffles are delicious for sure my new fav spot in Cape Town! You’ll be seeing a lot more of me Jessys

Would definitely recommend!! So much of yummy!!

Finally got a chance to grab a waffle at Jessy's Waffles yesterday afternoon and the waffles were really yummy not sure if we were there at a bit of a lull in the day but we did notice that the tables didn't get cleaned once customers left and reset for the next round of customers. It seemed like the staff walked past and saw the mess but no one seemed interested in making the tables nice for the next people. Just something to work on I guess but we will definitely be back for more waffles and hopefully earlier next time so I can try the brownie vegan milkshake

My sister and I were so excited about going to Jessy's Waffles and we had heard great things. Arrived, but the guy behind the counter was offish and not accommodating in the slightest. We did not feel welcome at all. Customer service seriously needs work.
Amber Kneisel
Totally disorganized... No Ceylon tea, sparkling water or flapjacks available on a Saturday morning. Metal straws & cups served with a tiny plastic bottle of Theonista... just didn’t make any sense really. I want to like Jessys but it’s not what it used to be. It feels mismanaged and neglected. The new menu is unnecessary, the old one was way better. The new interior is also not as nice as it used to be...

The good - cute place, for vegan, gluten free the sweet waffles are damn good!

The disappointing - flavour combination on the jackfruit waffle.
Beware - it has a string pickle / vinegar taste with added pickles on top. Not an expert on jackfruit but feel this is an overwhelming combination.
The savoury waffle flavour also does not add anything to it.

If you’re a vegan or non-vegan with a sweet-tooth then Jessy’s is heaven on earth!!!

I give an A++ to their waffles - you can build your own and I’ve loved every single one I’ve eaten, which have been many. You must have the hazelnut sauce if you love chocolate because it tastes just like Nutella.

Their flapjacks are yummy too, however they have a slight spiciness to them which I find unusual.

The reason I haven’t given Jessy’s 5 stars is because their service, although friendly, needs to be more attentive and I hope to one day see an improvement in their decor.

Otherwise, I’m an enthusiastic fan of this vegan gem😃

Jessys waffles was truly an interesting experience and pleasant surprise! Everything is VEGAN! Not only do they do vegan savory cheesy waffles but they do beautiful rich fruity chocolate sweet waffles too and I just couldn’t decide what I wanted so had a bit of both and was pleasantly surprised with this beautiful sunny little cafe in gardens

I heard A lot about this place and how good it was but unfortunately my boyfriend and I have had the WORST tasting waffle of our lives. The waffle was very thick and this thickens only worsened it's "cardboard-like" taste. (the recipe needs to be altered) The toppings none the less were good. I can't say anything good about the food but staff were the highlight of this visit ( which is sad because I'm mainly here to eat) and the decor is cute.

One of the best waffles I’ve had, and I’m a big waffles fan! Also love that’s it’s vegan. Really cool and vibey atmosphere, and the staff are super friendly. Overall, really good experience 🌞

Friendly and helpful service as well as exceptional waffles 👌 Would highly recommend this restaurant to both vegans and non-vegans! The one waffle I personally made and the other is one of their savory waffles with avo, vegan cheese, homemade beetroot hummus and tomato 😍
Helen
The restaurant is quaint, cute, and comfy. The staff are friendly and willing to answers all and any questions. The food is delicious! From sweet waffles, savory flapjacks, and ice cream sundaes; everything is tasty and satisfying.

I first visited Jessy’s when they had just opened up and their waffles were literally the best waffles I had ever tasted (even better than normal non-vegan, gluten waffles). I began telling everyone I knew about these fantastic waffles. I then visited a few times after they renovated and had changed their recipe - I have been extremely disappointed every time I’ve gone since then.

Sadly, their new waffle recipe does not taste good at all and their cinnamon flapjacks have a very “pasty” texture. They also often run out of ingredients/stock, especially their toppings such as brownies and their ice cream - given that they already have a limited menu, it doesn’t leave many options. We also tried their savory waffles and milkshakes which are probably the better tasting items on their menu at the moment.

There is a lot of hype around Jessys but it unfortunately does not live up to any expectations. One good thing to note is that the interior does look a lot better after renovations but that is all.

Amazing little waffle/flapjack Cafe. We had the captain if I am not mistaken. We also ordered a extra side of mixed berries on top for an additional R14 which is so worth it. The ingredients taste wholesome and of quality. A full portion was more then enough to share between the both of us. I also tried my first activated charcoal latte, I would say if u like a less of a sweet latte notify them in advance not to put too much syrup in. I did find mine a pit too sweet(nector).

Will be back.
A must for the dairy free folks out there. Great naughty breakfast.

I really liked their waffles. Friend built her own choc chip waffle with strawberries and coconut cream. It was really balanced (not too sweet). I had a savory one and it was so nice! With guacamole, salsa and toasted coconut flakes on top. I was so full I skipped lunch and dinner that day 😮

What I like: this is a vegetarian/vegan spot so it is great for those who are allergic or just picky.
What I dislike: the place is tiny and they don’t have a lot of tables at all. They had just renovated but I was like ... “where’s the renovation?”

To drink: I had the activated charcoal latte. Basically tasted the same as a normal latte. Just more expensive.

I have been dying to try Jessys for ages and I was definitely not disappointed. The space is a bit small and the wait a bit long but the waffles make it worth it. The texture was perfect and the sweetness is balanced by the ice cream. I can’t wait to try the different ones on the menu.

The worst customer experience EVER!!!!! Went to Jessy’s Waffles on Saturday afternoon for the first time, to discover the most inhospitable staff. Was greeted by a surly miserable looking wannabe barista who simply noted “There’s no table for 4” and left my party in a “no mans” land…I assumed we were expected to leave at this point. I girlfriend, mother and kid sat down to wait while I popped out for a smoke only to have them rush out after the unwelcoming “host” to this establishment told them to grab a menu after they asked for one, then proceeded to give them dirty looks, but fell over his feet to serve the “White” patrons when they walked in after…When they remarked that the atmosphere here was “weird” said barista snarkily replied to a waitron…”It’s fine to be weird!”…SO NO JESSY”S WAFFLES for me…I doubt that the food would have been good either if the staff can’t be bothered to put a smile on their faces…Don’t work in the service industry if you don’t like people or what you do OR YOU DONT WANT TO WORK ON A WEEKEND!!!!! I despise poor service…So very disappointed…You ruined a fun afternoon. #JESSYSUCKS

I met my fellow vegan friends in this little eatery. I can tell you that my first experience in Jessy’s waffles was wonderful. The service was lovely, the ambience, music and the waffles of course! The menu is amazing. It was so difficult to choose. Definitely going next time and choosing from the savoury section. I saw someone ordered a waffle with guacamole and I can’t stop thinking about it.

This is a really cute and quaint spot within the CBD,which makes delicious vegan and gluten free desserts.I ordered the sweet captain waffle which was toppled with hazelnut sauce and chocolate chips, the base was light and fluffy...loved it, however the ice cream on the side tasted more like sorbet which I didn’t quite like. The decor of the cafe is pretty cool as well, the service was average and wasn’t as attentive as I’d hoped. My overall experience was pleasant though and I would definitely visit again..

I was so excited to meet up with my girls for a waffle breakfast at Jessy's. Shame it was our waitress first day so we tried to be patient when she brought us coconut cream instead of ice cream. The waffles themselves was ok, a bit undercooked and could have been crispier.

Would love to try them out on a quieter day perhaps.

Such amazing waffles best ones I’ve ever had ! Such a cool tiny restaurant very chilled and relax. The service wasn’t the best wasn’t even sure if it was open when we walked in and we found our own seats, took awhile to get our meal but other than that it was an enjoyable meal!

Delicious waffles! They have a ‘build your own’ option, however I chose the waffle of the month - a Wazgoogles based waffle, which was yummy! I ordered extra sugar free syrup as it was not a very sweet waffle, however they do have a wide range of different ones depending on your preferences!
Also got a take away vegan carrot cake which was so good! Will 100% be back 😋

I love waffles and Jessy's waffles was so awesome! We shared the Gone nutty, the Captain and a side of chocolate ice cream. everything was so yummy! the icecream as a very small portion initially I thought it was chocolate sauce 😅.
it is a bit pricey so I won't go often but every now and then for a good treat!

I had the la gringa and it was lovely. The service was great and I would definitely come here again. In fact I did

My friend had the captain and it was simply fantastic, the crunch and sweetness of the waffles was like no other

Firstly, I think it's important to note that I have never in my 23 years on this planet said that I have enjoyed a waffle. And so it was with GREAT apprehension that I met a friend at Jessy's Waffles for a spontaneous sweet run.

The menu is expansive and consists only of vegan and gluten-free items. My friend and I decided to split a waffle - half topped with The Captain (chocolatey goodness with a hint of sea salt) and half with The Queen of Hearts (berry compote, fresh berries and hazelnut sauce).
The Queen and its balance of sweet and tart stole my heart, there can be no doubt about that. The waffle itself is moist and light, something I cannot say I have experienced even prior to going vegan.

Aside from the delicious waffles and heartwarming coffee, the service is outstanding. Our barista was warm, friendly and familiar. I HOPE SHE READS THIS because in my rush to reach Roxy's before six I forgot to include a tip. So later this week, when I inevitably find myself back in Jessy's window, I will make sure to pay my dues.
