Review Cocoa Oola - Cape Town Central

This is a fantastic little gem of a restaurant. Great food, excellent friendly service, very prompt and vibey atmosphere. I tried the mushroom chicken schnitzel which come with delicious crispy hand cut fries. Great place to stop off for a quick bite to eat. Free WiFi also available which is always a win for me. Thanks, I will be back 😊✌🏼

What a cute and welcoming establishment. The waiters are great and friendly. The food is amazing especially their addictive potato skins. And of course they have amazing happy hour specials 😃
Ryan Hultzer
Great place with quite decent prices and simple but tasty food. Staff are friendly. It's a great place to have a coffee for breakfast, a drink after work, or a dinner later on.
Arpad C Tucker
Amazing cozy place to have drinks with friends and loved ones,.. the staff are very sweet and welcoming,.. had an amazing time.. Ask for Nicolas, He was extremely friendly
Lee Thomas
A lovely venue with the perfect summer views of the iconic Table mountain. Great for breakfast or the casual beer
Annelize Krause
Always good for a bite and some craft beers if you can find a seat in this trendy neighbourhood! Great views of Table Mountain from the veranda

Might actually make a turn there tonight. One of my favourite spots in town. Good food, wine and people. The staff has impeccable customer service and their menu options are reasonably priced. Take your family and friends for a chilled and yet fulfilling vibe. You meet some influential people here too.
Norbert Erciol
A chilled place with a very friendly service.
Felipe Amarante
Stuffed croissants that can stop wars. Make love, not war. And eat croissants!

Loved this restaurant for breakfast. Coffee strong and good and the vibe and service was friendly and unassuming. I had the Jacqui’s eggs Benedict which is vegetarian- poached eggs and yummy hollandaise sauce on top of spinach, artichoke and onion with sautéed potatoes cubes. Absolutely delicious and really good value. My fellow diners had chili mince on sour dough which they also said was very tasty. Will definitely return to taste their lunch and evening menu as well as to experience happy hour.
Nisha Desai
Definitely one of my favourite restaurants for any meal. Their weekday specials are great value for money. The mango mint crush is my favourite drink and the chicken wasabi mayo trammezini is amazing! All their breakfast items are also fantastic, and the waiters are always super friendly
Roxanne Joseph
A really great physical space, with a nice varied menu. Their avo or hummus eggs are delicious, their coffee is good and they're quite reasonably priced. You can usually get away with a few hours of free wifi but sometimes they'll make you buy an extra coffee if you want.
Andrea van Tonder
Amazing variety, from breakfast, lunch, dinner, to drinks, cakes, smoothies, shakes and dessert. Open till late, located in a great vibey area in Kloof Street. Friendly service. Had the mango and mint crush, so refreshing, and also had a taste of the red velvet cake as well as the white chocolate cake with poppy seeds. The cream they give along with that is out of this world, I have no idea what they do to it, but it works, well done!
Annette de Klerk
Excellent food and very good service with amazing views of the mountain. We had breakfast which we all really enjoyed but the cake is really worth writing home about! (no pics because too much/fast eating)
David Levy
Nice little place. Very well priced and tasty lunch specials. Will be back The owners need to address the smokers outside and the way the smoke pours into the restaurant thought the windows
Miriam Mannak
One of the few no-nonsense spots on Kloof Street and a firm favourite post-hike venue (for a drink and a bite). Food menu comprises burgers, pizzas, salads and wraps, including various vegetarian and gluten/banting options. Prices are fair, quality is consistent.
Margaret Avery
Cocoa Oola is our 'local' and we go regularly, mostly for a drink but their pizzas and burgers are good too. The staff members are very friendly and efficient. Unless you are keen on soccer and rugby stay away on big match days. Otherwise, the TVs are unobtrusive and the casual atmosphere very relaxing.
Aidan Johnson
Great place to do some work, to get coffee, or to grab one of the mid week specials
Michelle Dalton
I had the single Hummus, Avo, Scrambled Eggs with Feta on Rye Toast.
It was a generous portion with impossibly creamy, wonderfully cooked scrambled eggs.
Hlumelo Othandwayo Marepula
The BEST Margherita pizza I have EVER tasted!! The combination of the different cheeses is PERFECT! Such flavour! I’m not a vegetarian, but I would choose your Margherita pizza over meat ANYDAY!

Also, not forgetting your Cosmo! Whoever mixes it is excellent what they do! Keep it up 😊
P.S. I’m coming by today for the pasta special and a cosmo 😊😊

Great little brunch spot in the heart of Tamboerskloof! Always a good meal and never a complaint, would recommend to anyone looking for a quick breakfast or light lunch!
Thandi Mcizana
Great place to watch the world cup. Pizzas were great - thin base and full of toppings. Friendly staff and order came through quickly. Will return.

Arriving at the door we were met with Happiness. Yes that’s her name. Friendly and engaging. Yay. A great start.

We sat down to a great view of Table Mountain, at their window. Great feel of Europe in Cape Town. 😊👌🏻

Drinks were served, food was served. If only the croissant 🥐 was fresh and our food served hot, actually warm would have been good to. Much shouting from Happiness to Dumisane the Barista/barman to get his attention with a simple water order. And a wet, newly washed glass arrived...

Final verdict: Could have been a great experience with a few minor tweeks and a manager on the floor. Good luck Café Cocoa.

More reviews at:

facebook.com/bjorn.salsone
Instagram.com/bjornsalsone
twitter.com/bjornsalsone
#bjornslife
#bjorninct

Cool and vibey little restaurant with great potential. Yummy food and a good meal selection, pricing is also very decent. I had the chicken strips and chips for a light meal, very filling. Would love to come back soon! Also for those party goers, they have a happy hour!
Adam Hunter
One of my fav breakfast and lunch spots - right at the foot of table mountain, cocoa oola delivers delicious, creative, fun, and even healthy bating food menu options at a reasonable price.
My Fav breakfast: The mince omelette with feta and avo served on a toasted croissant
Fav meal: the Banting pizza made of cauliflower
Great for hangovers, watching a live game, or meeting friends for a special brekkie or lunch - cocoa oola never disappoints 😎
Irina
One of my favourite little spots. Homey and welcoming atmosphere- food is delicious and affordable and service is great!
Their fruit crushers are great for hot days- and the mozzarella sticks are to die for!
Ivanna Abigail Kemp
This was my first visit at Cocoa Oola (what a cute and fun name to say!) and it was for a friend’s birthday. They were really accommodating for allowing us to wrap gifts at the table and to bring cupcakes from home.

We ordered some nibbles and ordered even more because they were that amazing!

We had spring rolls, fries, pulled pork dumplings, chicken strips and so many more delicious things!
Jaryd Kay
This is a great local hangout and is highly recommended. When Mambwe is there to manage - the vibe is even better and the service impeccable and attentive. Everytime we are there the food is fresh, tasty and wholesome with the right amount of seasoning. No matter what is ordered from their wide menu - its always brilliant and reasonably priced. Their happy hour is also excellent and at a great time. Go and enjoy!
Get In My Belly
Our first breakfast arriving to Cape Town - it was well worth it. The place was packed due to some game on at 10 in the morning but we managed to find ourselves a quieter corner to enjoy breakfast. The eggs Benedict with avocado was super delicious and that french toast was super decadent - crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Their service is great and I would highly recommend this place as they have a view of table mountain whilst you enjoy a cup of joe or a pint of beer - a great hidden gem!

Nice atmosphere to go and watch sports events! Food is very well priced and a good variety available. Good weekly specials as well. Im a recurring customer.

After Pilates in Kloof this morning, I decided to stop at Cocoa Oola, since they were the first ones open on the street, and they had a Zomato sign on their front door :-). I arrived just after 7:30am, which meant I was eligible for the breakfast special, Eggs Benedict with spinach and Ham (with a choice of orange juice or coffee). The breakfast arrived promptly, my eggs were cooked to perfection and the spinach was a great touch, HOWEVER, the hollandaise sauce had split, the hostess/manager on duty didn't greet and was already miserable from the second those doors opened and when I inquired about Zomato, no one knew what I was talking about. So unfortunately, attitude and lack of knowledge makes my experience slightly disappointing.

Havent been here for a few years. This was my spot when i was crashing on my sisters couch a few years ago.
The place has surely changed. It was more of a cafe . Now its a sports bar who occasionally (weekly) has an open mic for singers.
Anyways only wanted to try have a dessert. We had coffee and dark and white cookie with vanilla ice cream.
Really didnt enjoy the cookie
Service lacklustre
Jana Van Rensburg
What a great underrated place. Absolutely fantastic. Great setting with an excellent vibe.

They have an extensive menu with a lot of great dishes to choose from. Their breakfast's are delicious and the coffee is amazing! I will definitely be back.

Easter Monday, amazing weather, breakfast in Kloof Street! We were welcomed, seated and had our flat whites within a few minutes. Coffee served in large mugs! Excellent. Robyn had a berry smoothy which was in a large jug and tasted great. She then had the yogurt, muesli and berries and together that made a superb health breakfast. Stu had eggs Benedict and I had Wah Wah Wonderful. Similar dishes but one served on English Muffins and mine on home made bread with melted cheese and a mustard sauce. Yummy! Michele had scrambled eggs and wow what a serving. After having about a third she gave up but Stu helped finish it off. So we were impressed with yet another Cape Town eatery, had excellent service from a pretty, smiling Linda. To be recommended.

This corner street cafe on the great Kloof street in gardens , they’re serving quality all day breakfast , and have a full bar available , the menu covers your regular egg dishes ,omelettes, benedicts , croissants , french toast etc… along with a good range of smoothies sweet and treats . being conveniently close to the mountains this is the perfect spot for a refuel after a good hike wich is what i did and wasn’t desapointed with my choice !

Service was impeccable & food came fast but in full disclosure it was a Sunday afternoon. The food was fatty but oh so good! Worth the cheat...
Douglas Lorimer
Solid and pleasant, but not quite 'foodie'.
We had a few drinks and a light super at Cocoa Oola this evening. Service was friendly and fairly quick, although not super attentive. Drinks selection seemed reasonable and the food was well presented and appetising. The soccer match on the tv was quite loud, but well supported by people in the restaurant, so fair enough. Nice spot on Kloof Street.
Lezandi Fourie
Strolling down Kloof street, my friends and I came across this little gem. We were warmly welcomed and offered happy hour drinks. The interior is unique with some of the tables suspended by chains from the roof. We did not try the cocktails this time, but had hot drinks insteads (as it was one of the rare rainy days in Cape Town). The hot drinks were all presented with a cookie and pretty milk swirls on top. Our food was delicious! You can taste rosemary and corse salt in their potato wedges. My tramezzini was very flavourful and not bland as I have found some to be. I would definitely be back.
Mr Creosote
Service is soooo bad.......wow. just don't even bother. Got so tired of waiving my arms around all evening trying to get someone's attention. Pretty average food
Marcel Klopper
Well thought out breakfast menu and the execution was amazing! Accompanied by a delicious smoothy! Served by a trainee waitress that was better than most experienced waiters. Great place! Well worth a visit.
Mecia Hugo
Love going to Cocoa Oola. My absolute favorite of all the Cocoa branches. Excellent service! Great vibe! Awesome manager, thank you Attie! Yummy burgers and delicious coffee.
Annie
Just came from this place. The waiter was not clued up on the menu, he constantly gave incorrect information on the items we asked for. He was not familiar with their drinks menu nor did he bring us the condiments we asked for when dining. The food was awful. We went there for a late night sweet kick but were told the cakes were done but the desert menu was still available, when we aaked for items on the desert menu we were told they were not available eventhough we asked beforehand if they were. We then decided ro order food tapas and one of the only desert things offered and available on the menu. Log story short, the chicken was burned the potatoes, were over cooked and burned, the pasta was bland and the apple pie desert looked like ham and was unedible....oh and did I mention we had a visitor in the form of an exceptionally large cockroach?!?! The night manager though was very courteous and listened to what we had to tell him, he truly was a gentleman but other than that, I will never be going there again.
Paria
Came here, waiter wasn't very enthusiastic at all. I wanted to order cake - nothing available.. okay.
Then 3 other things we wanted to order were not on the menu.
Not happy with the service or lack of stock.
Popsi
Reliable spot for a good simple meal and a delicious piece of chocolate cake. This particular branch of the Cocoa chain has a nice open atmosphere and outdoor seating. My favourite thing about it, though, is that they are great for watching sport. They have three big TVs and are happy to play the commentary. On our recent visit, though, the service was not great and the wait staff rather unfriendly.
Rui Burguete
Really nice place on your way down from Table Mountain. What a longggggg walk...very nice smoothie, nice beer garden. Just had a coffee and smoothie cause it was still early to have lunch. Maybe next time around.
Ashton Coetzee
Saturday afternoon with the sun shining and Cape Town in full bloom, unfortunately poor service, average food, dirty glasses and watered down drinks.
Vuyo Sisanda Sisanda
Such amazing service , this is rare in the city of Cape Town . Some great lunch options from pizza to tapas. Grab a slice of cake or a stack of flapjacks . Lovely spot to catch up on some news and emails with a stunning view of the mountain . I would keep this spot for breakfast, lunch and coffee dates.

Oola oola
Robin Mahlangu
Popped in to watch some sport over the weekend. Really nice and comfortable place which also serves happy hour drinks. I had the margarita pizza which was also very pleasant.
Ben Kilian
One of my favourite spots for an early-morning cappuccino :) ... a refreshing view of Table Mountain included.

Looovvve the chocolate biscotti they include with their coffees. My favourite on the menu HAS to be the "Hummus Eggs" ... Sooo good! Portion sizes of dishes are all very good - I've never left feeling hungry.

Service has always been speedy on my visits. Staff always happy, which is a good thing :)

Nice, big TVs if you want to watch a sport game. Also open pretty late at night, so a perfect spot for "night-owls".
Danieljake
My favorite part about Cocoa Oola is the mountain view if you sit at the counter.

It's a great place to meet up with friends for coffee or to catch up on emails. It's also a really lovely sundowners venue, especially because of their happy hour specials.

The food is really good - it maintains the Cocoa standard (which inherently means that the portion sizes are rather small). The last time I came I had the calamari which was incredible, but definitely exemplifies my previous comment.

The service here is actually the best I've experienced at any of the Cocoa restaurants.

Definitely worth a visit.
JotterJo
Lovely little restaurant in Kloof road; easy to find being on a corner with plenty of street parking.

We just had drinks on this occasion but will be back to sample their extensive menu. I'm particularly attracted to their breakfast and tapas which are well priced and good in range. A friend with us is a regular and says the food is great. They also have big screen TV's and beer on tap so great for game nights with mates.
Samantha Driver
I love Coco Ola. They make the best pizza in town. The coco crushes are delicious and we get them to go all the time. The staff are always really friendly and helpful as is the manager. Also pretty great chips/wedges. Another great thing is that they're open late, so when it's 10:30pm and somehow you still haven't eaten, you can still get amazing pizza.
Lauren Kim
A nice spot for breakfast. All the breakfast - cha chi eggs, omelettes and eggs Benedict all good! The deserts and cakes though = 😍
The flapjacks unbelievable, the cakes = fantastic.
Friendly staff and hot coffee 👍🏼
Kelly Jepson
Cocoa oola is my second home!! I love all the waiting staff and the manager Attie is the coolest cat on Kloof street. Thank you for having some of the best food there is, always warm and freshly made. Nothing to ever complain about here! I'm here at least 3 times a week!
Thembakazi Sonwabe
My friend and I ended up here by mistake. We wanted the Friday pasta special but it turns out that was at the Cocoa in Rondebosch. (new in CPT. Honest mistake) But we decided to stay anyway because it seemed like a really nice spot and it was the end of the week and we were hungry. We ordered a pizza to share and it was really tasty. I had wine with mine and my friend a beer. The service was a bit slow but the friendly manager made up for it. I would definitely come here again. Great spot!
Jacques Van Zyl
Amazing service from Cocoa Oola in Cape Town.

Coffee options are amazing and they have a variety of options for lunch.

Thank you for an amazing experience.
Lauren Shea Patterson
Probably one of my favourite hangout spots in the area. Always enjoy their food. My personal favourites are their beef burger with wedges and wasabi mayo. Their Tuesday pasta specials are great value for money - the Hot Papa pasta wins on so many levels.
My beverage of choice at Cocoa Oola is the Moscow Mango Mint crush. Their chocolate cake with lemon cream is my favourite indulgent treat.

This "Cocoa" restaurant is my favourite one between their other three sister restaurants.
Dhrupal Amin
My wife and I dropped in for a late afternoon pizza. Food quality was great and service very efficient and friendly. My wife loved the easy going decor to match the simple menu. Good food good value.
D.Klon
The food was good but nothing was great, the ice coffees were ok but a little bit of a let down.

The atmosphere was good but I would suggest coming for breakfast rather than lunch as the breakfast seems to be more of their specialty.

The service was also ok. A little slow but not unsatisfactory.

I may come back for breakfast if I'm in the neighborhood.

With Kent Blake Henderson

This place is a hidden gem! They have by far THE best veg spring rolls I've ever had! Probably even better than at a Chinese restaurant. I ordered the Banting burger which was surprisingly really good and the 'bun' had a very different taste in a good way. Definitely recommend for a light dinner or lunch.
Erwìn Bindeman
Cocoa Oola is conveniently located and I really do like the vibe. And then the service is okay... Friendly. Unfortunately the food is just average but the biggest blowback is the prices.
Mandy Jones
Perfect lunch or breakfast spot! Their food is delicious, prices really good and fantastic service! This is quickly becoming a local favorite! Do yourself a favour and try their ultimate chocolate cookie with ice-cream.. I always take one home!
Kim Vee
I love their food and coffee; the decor is great; but depending on what time of day you're there, the sound of the traffic can get a bit much.
Bree Street Brent
This is a weird mix of coffee shop and sports bar but it kinda works, especially in winter. When it rains, you can say “Up yours!” to the Cape Town tradition of hibernating at home and play board games here instead. Great location, good vibe, average food.
Amy Imogen Tanzer
Coco Oola situated on Kloof in town boasts a beautiful view and allows patrons to sit both inside and outside. Their menu makes the restaurant friendly for all occasions - early morning breakfast, coffee, lunch, drinks during the rugby, cocktails in the evening and dinner. Their breakfasts are generous and delicious. Dishes are beyond the norm with more variety and cool Cavour combinations including South African twists. Service is friendly however servers tend to forget about you and it once took me almost 15 minutes to pay and I had to end up getting up and insisting that I needed to pay as I was in a hurry.
Bronwyn Coltman
I can't believe that this place has been around the corner the whole time! I'm so glad we popped in to see what it was like. They have amazing drink specials from 5 - 6 everyday and their cocktails are fantastic! I'll definitely have to come back to try their food as it looked delicious!
Nicole Bramhill
We popped in for a quick lunch one Saturday, we didn't want to venture too far and had been meaning to try this place so off we went.

We decided to get things going with some cocktails and 2 starters. Both of us being cheese fiends, we naturally went for the baked Camembert with figs and Rosemary and garlic focaccia. The baked Camembert was really lovely but the standout for me was the focaccia.

Our mains eventually came and it was okay. I preferred the starters and was probably already too stuffed to enjoy the mains properly.

Points knocked off as the service was a tad slow for my liking and the waitress seemed really pre-occupied.

All in all, it's a really great place with room for improvement and it's easy to see why it's popular with the Kloof street crowd.

Go if : you looking for a great "coffice" and looking for a great place to people watch. Don't go if : you're a student on a budget as their drinks are a bit on the pricey side.
Ilse Liebenberg
Good pizza. Nice vibe. Good value for money... They have a great daily happy hour on their beer (incl craft beer) Service was friendly. Will be back
Kristen Birch
I really love this place! It is great value for money and is super casual and friendly! I love the fact that they have boardgames too! Feels super chilled compared to some of the other places in town that are snooty for no reason.
Bryan Vally
As with all the restaurants in the Cocoa family, Oola is consistently...solid - although not spectacular. The food doesn't disappoint, although there is better value for money to be found elsewhere. Service is sharp and attentive. No complaints at all, but Cape Town has so much more to offer.
Kelly Rae Gifford
This is my usual spot for Friday after-work drinks. It is a great spot to re-group after a long week and sip on cocktails (they have great specials) whilst staring at our beautiful mountain. It is a nice central spot for friends to meet up. If cocktails aren't your thing (we can't be friends) then it also has amazing brekky options and beer specials for the rugby. It has a very friendly, homely vibe. Love it.
Lori Claire Cape
The set up and decor of the restaurant is cool. They have good coffee but the food isn't that great. The waiter that we had was also very unfriendly and didn't seem like they cared.
Jenny Sarah Coulson
I'm not entirely sure why this place has such a low rating, because I love it here. The food is consistently good, and the last time I went I tried the chicken tramezzini, which was perfectly toasted and bursting with filling. (Also wasn't too covered in mayo, which I hate). If I'm just popping in for a coffee I will always get the white chocolate poppyseed cake with berry coulis, because it is delicious and I never say no to cake. The service is always good and I think this particular branch has a lovely location, right on the corner of Kloof Street with a view of Capetonian life. Super.
Lushane J Abrahams
@cocooola waitrons range from friendly to unsmiling and grumpy. Service is great when the establishment is fairly empty. Eggs Benedict can do with a bit more Hollandaise.
Misha Massimo Beltrami
I regularly go to this place because it is right around the corner from my house and their Mango & Mint smoothie is epic. Everything else is pretty average. Food takes long. Waiters are friendly, but seems like they need proper management. They have a great happy hour special and big TV's that always show football so I'll probably still keep coming back.
Maryke Van Schalkwyk
The food is really good and the drinks menu is great. The service on the other hand is a different story... it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
Christian Jansen
I love this place, very relaxed and chill. Service almost every where in the cape is slow. So order a beer, sit back relax and enjoy the views of table mountain. Awesome place to watch rugby! Carft beer is spot on. Everytime I come to Cape Town, I stop here atleast twice!
Ashleigh
Terrible service. Nice space. Okay food. Management should really sort out these issues as it would be such a nice restaurant otherwise. Such a pity!
Tay
After a hike up lions head I was very hungry! We decided to give this place a try. The service was quite bad and I had to get my own menus. The smoothies took 30 minutes to arrive and my eggs benedict was very minimal on the sauce. I won't rush back.
Margot Johnson
So disappointed. Service was shocking; hardly there, coffee (which was awful, cold, badly brewed) all over saucer, scrambled eggs were average, cheese was warm, stale and greasy, rye bread was semi toasted and flakey, bacon was fatty and disgusting and avo bruised. This place is only good when the manager is there. Thank goodness for the view and the company I was with.
Martin Evans
Tend to have the same things every time here.
Love the fish cakes and the chicken skewers with their side salads and potato wedges. Also appreciate their beer menu.

I like it. Simple and unpretentious
Christoff Smit
Went here with a few friends after cycling. Waited 10min for a menu. Eventually placed our order, but after 1 hour 10min of waiting for our food, we left. The manager didn't even have anything to say about it. Great location though!
Lusantha
Good food, disappointing service! I had to wait for a menu and then for a waiter who got the order wrong. The food was good and the service is a reason to not go back
Henriette
Pleasant stop after work for a craft beer and "something-different-starter" en route to our restaurant. Food was tasty and well prepared. Love the view with the buildings of the cbd in the distance.
Anthea Kavallieratos
Nice location, Very disappointing meal

First time trying this restaurant. Nice location and atmosphere, unfortunately the food was a huge let down, I chose the Hot papa pasta, was very disappointed with what was bought to me. The menu described a steak pasta with roasted cherry tomatoes, what I received was tiny slivers of meat in a red sauce with huge slightly cooked onions rings and pieces of grated carrot? The staff were friendly but didn't seem interested in the fact that what I order didn't correspond to the menu description.
Olivia
The food is ok, but not out of this world. It's quite a nice spot to have a beer under the umbrellas on the pavement however. The service is a lucky draw, either they put effort in and it's decent, or, they don't put any effort in at all and you wait a fair time to be served. Had a terrible experience with a few of the waitresses once, when the manager had left they started packing up the furniture around us, they even took my partners chair. When we indicated that our drinks were still full, they basically told us we had to leave as they were going home, even though it was only 10.30. Needless to say, we no longer expect much from them.
Zoe Lansdell
Came here with friends for a quick breakfast. We waited for quite a while before being helped and it was a tad frustrating. The food when it finally arrived was very good though. I had a burger, friends had a pizza, eggs Benedict, toasties. Nice food but not much space outside to sit down
Terrence Goosen
Lovely non traditional chilli pasta. If you're not that comfortable with hot food - rather have the broccoli and bacon (a good second place to the chilli). Their wine list is very disappointing and on the wrong side of the local vs. International visitor rate debate. The setting was lovely, but the staff were all over the place. All in all, go have drinks - and maybe a lazy lunch on the side walk, and try ignore the rest.
Jacqui Senekal
So on Saturday afternoon, I suggested my mum and I take a drive up to Kloof Street to find a place to stop and have some tea. We came across this cafe called Cocoa Oola right on the corner. We walked in with one table for two free, so my mum and I grabbed it before any more people ventured in. The rugby was on that afternoon - South Africa vs Wales. The place was packed full of supporters, what a fantastic vibe! There were a number of tvs displaying the intense game so that wherever you sat, you would have a clear view of the rugby.
Service was on point, despite the number of people there. The food was great! We shared a white chocolate poppy seed cake with berry compote and cream. I had a chai freezo and mum had the salon tea.
Reading through the rest of their menu and specials I see they have a 'rasta pasta' special for R45 a pasta after five on Thursdays. The other meals sounded very tempting.
I definitely rate you give this place a try!
Krissy
Cocoa Oola makes divine brownies and smoothies. I've never experienced bad service at any of their branches :-)
Anita Shapiro
After a bracing evening walk on the mountain it was time to replenish on carbs, so we ventured down Kloof Street to find food in a setting where we would feel comfortable in our takkies and shorts. We parked and saw a groups sitting at the window counters of Cocoa Ooola, also dressed in takkies and gymwear, so we reckoned it would be alright to take our sweaty selves in for a meal. And it was, as they seem to be shifting their identity towards that of a Sports Bar.
We decided on pizza and pasta. We chose our pizza from the options chalked on the wall and pasta from the menu. Our waiter was very confused at our request of some extra fresh tomato, came back to check twice. The pasta only comes in penne, and all the pasta includes mushrooms. Strange. We were very very hungry and luckily the food came quickly. And as they say, hunger is the best cook, and made us wolf down food that was at best average.

WEEEELLL, me not being much of a breakfast kind girl or sarmies for that matter this quaint little place was just the perfect hangover cure for me and to line the tummy for the upcoming day's events. In the hub of student and arts'Ville you'll find this cute little "coffee" shop that offers the most amazing coffee milkshake I have ever tasted most interesting light meal menu and the friendliest atmosphere, sitting at a bar like counter you can see the road and young, friendly vibe Gardens has to offer, watching people walk their dogs, joggers being brave and a fantastic view of the Mountain. This is a place I would go back to for that Sunny weekend afternoon Milkshake with a great friend enjoying a tasty sandwich while reminiscing the events from the night before...
