Review Quay Four - Cape Town Central

Lovely venue. Value for money. We ordered family platters as we were a big table. The food was lovely. Prawns are slightly overcooked but still good. My biggest complaint is that the food was almost cold when it reached the table. It would have been much better if still hot. Still a good value for money meal with a beautiful view

A beautiful and affordable restaurant at V&A. They have great views of the harbour and serve exquisite food. The place gets really packed, we tried to call and reserve a table prior but that was not possible so we had to wait a bit for a table. I went with my infant so we struggled a bit with a pram but eventually got a spot. The service wasn’t the greatest, I understand that it was quite full but it did feel like our waitress often forgot about us with requests like straws or glasses etc where I eventually walked to the bar to get these items myself. The food was amazing, this was my 3rd visit and we still got decent sized portions, tasty and they run a number of specials so it wasn’t too heavy for the pocket. I think it’s great for adults or older children but not so much for if you have kids under 10years, my boys were “shoooo’d away” when they tried to get a closer look at the boats on the deck. The adults however had a lovely time.

Great food, but given it four stars ⭐️ for now because the starter seafood chowder wasn’t great. I think they could improve the recipe. (willing to rate five stars in the future) The hake with salad, steak and chips was lovely. Oysters are fresh 👌 The portion size on the chicken was massive for one person, I assume you could feed two people.
Petch Manopawitr
Good seafood platter. The prawn and catch of the day are great. Fish here are very fresh and tasty. We came at night the atmosphere is lively and noisy but ok.

Food was delicious and freshly prepared, definitely value for money. Great atmosphere with a live band. Does get a bit chilly towards the evening as is expected with being on the waterfront but the views are most certainly worth it.

Had a wonderful experience there. The food was absolutely lovely. Please ask waitress about vegan/ vegetarian options, there a few available, I had missed until a friend pointed out the vegan burger options. Honestly the BEST vegan burger I've had and I've had my share across the major franchises! Still thinking about the lovely meal I had three days later and planning my return! Lovely waitress who was on the ball with our orders, excellent service. Food prices compare very well with places like Spur and Ocean Basket, and you get more food here than what you would get at those two places so it's great value for money. Will definitely be back!!!

The food was absolutely delicious! I also really enjoyed the fact that you could have a veggie patty for any of the burgers, helps cater to everyone. The vibe was to be expected for a restaurant located right at the dock. The only drawback was the dirty mug though that was sorted out quickly.

Lovely tavern . Great food. Good music. Very busy place but our waitress was always available. Definitely will return to enjoy the waterfront once more.

Really a nice place to soak up the V&A Waterfront vibe. My dish, the “Cape Malay Fish Curry” was amazing, however my wife’s line-fish was ‘n little disappointing, yet still good flavours and well presented... All and all highly recommended.

The atmosphere is so refreshing, including the drinks. The food is so tasty and not badly priced either. I’m definitely adding this place to my eating places 😊 thank you again!

I loved the atmosphere here. We went to the rooftop restaurant and it amazing scenery seeing V&A waterfront. The sea food was the best. What could have been better was the service- it was very slow. Be sure to ask also if they have any specials you can enjoy for less.

A really great restaurant, affordable too. Did not know upstairs and downstairs had different menus though as well as a change in waiter attitude. Downstairs definitely the place to be!

Really great evening dinner at Quay Four restaurant, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. Fantastic table overlooking the harbour at night which was really special. Also great value for money in a superb location.

A great location for a meal at the V&A Waterfront with good food and decent value. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Suitable for all ages and for families, groups or couples to enjoy a meal or just drinks. The peri-peri chicken was hot enough and did not disappoint. The Fish and chips was a good portion and some of the other meals at nearby tables looked great. See you guys next time we are in Cape Town.

Amazing place. Very authentic, lively atmosphere. Also the food is very good and you get a lot of bang for your buck. You see a mix of locals, tourists and every kind of people. On sunday they had live music and the band was soooo good.

They have an upper and lower deck area. The wait to the lower deck area is significantly on weekends. The upper area is reserved for fine dining. Despite the busy restaurant, the food was fantastic and the service was good.

At Quay Four for some festivities on a Sunday evening. We waited 20 minutes before a waiter helped us after we sat down, after our drinks were empty no waiter came back to offer more drinks nor did they clean the table. We had to wave down waiters to get some kind of service. We ordered food and when the food came, the calamari was fried and not grilled as requested, the steak was cold along with the chips that tasted stale that it was served with. We waited 40 minutes for the food to be served after we had ordered and after all this the table was still filled with empty glasses that were not removed. Was there a shortage of staff? Would not recommend any friends or family to visit this place.

An experience I would love to forget. Friday late afternoon we got a table at your restaurant. My daughter from the uk treated us. Waiter took our order brought the drinks which were nice and cold. We ordered jalapeño poppers. We got them and they were horrible. Cold greasy oily. Luckily there were only three. Then we ordered the mains. Cajun grilled calamari, king prawns and queen prawns. It arrived. Ice cold and way overcooked. The stuff, or sauce in the little bowl was just horrible! Our waiter Simba was missing. We asked two other waiters called Brian and Trevor to find him. No luck. Eventually my daughter suggested maybe if we get some hot garlic Lemon butter then it will heat up the prawns. Brian brought it. We never saw the waiter again until the bill arrived. I asked him where he has been and he replied I did come and ask you how the food was. I didn’t want to argue. Anyway my daughter queried the R15 for the lemon garlic butter and Simba called the manager who arrived 15 min later. She explained the whole thing. The Manager answered. He didn’t see the plates so he cannot do anything about it. And he didn’t even apologize. All he did was to deduct R15 for the garlic butter. The bill was R900 and even though the food was so bad she still gave the waiter a tip. Quay four will never see us again.

We had two great waiters, Danjay and Afrika. Service speed was pretty good and Sanjay recommended a remarkable white wine that my wife and I really enjoyed. The calamari rings were a huge disapointment for a seaside venue - lovely portion but very oily and not well cooked. I had been dreaming of genuine, fresh calamari all the way down from Jhb, so it was quite a let-down. Onion rings were tasteless, some extra seasoning in the batter would go a long way i think. However, to be fair on the kitchen staff, it was New Year's day and the place was packed solid - they must have been run off their feet. On a more quiet day hopefully the food would have been better.

Sunday night on 4February i took some overseas people to the restaurant that was always the best. We got seated waited 15mins just for the waiter then we got drinks out the bottles no glasses. We waited another 30mins to order then we waited 1hour 45mins for the food, when it arrived the fish, prawns, calamari and mussels was ice cold, chips was not even heated up. We called the manager told her food was cold but we have been sitting over 2hours we were starving she said she can warm our food up but it wil take another 40mins to 1hour. we said no thanks we had half got up payed and left. No appology or nothing the manager turned around and walk away. I would never recommend it again and i felt very bad taking my friends there!!!!!!!!

So my evening started off well.. my boyfriend said I could choose a place for dinner. With the Waterfront being one of my favourite places and Quay Four always being great, I decided to give the new winter menu a try. We arrived to a sticky table and we were given a dirty wine menu. We were never handed a food menu. We arrived at the restaurant around 19:40 to a miserable hostess. We were taken to our table. At the 19:45 I asked my boyfriend for the time as we had had waiters walk right past us and completely ignore us even though we had been sitting at our table for a few minutes. Tables that had arrived after us had been seen to before us. At 19:55 I got up and left your restaurant. Having had no waiter greet us, or even acknowledge us, I have left your restaurant more than disappointed. I spoke to one of the managers on duty and she wasn’t the most helpful either. With Quay Four always being a family favourite, it saddens me to say that I won’t be back in a hurry nor will I be recommending this restaurant to anyone in the near future. While the restaurant was fairly busy, having been in the hospitality industry myself, I know that service should not be affect no matter how busy the restaurant is. Regards Disappointed ex-loyal customer

Loved everything about it. Food was wonderful. Service was fantastic. Great portion sizes. Great music. Had so much fun. Friendly staff. Our waiter even greeted as we walked out the door. Great vibe. It was a cold evening and my wife and I were put in a cosy warm nook which was also lovely.

Went for sundowners with friends and my girlfriend who ordered the raspberry gin Collins cocktail, which tasted like watered down tomato sauce (which is putting it lightly). Upon calling the manager to politely exchange it for something else, we were lectured on "checking the ingredients" before ordering. After a lengthy lecture of how busy the restaurant is and that this cocktail was one of their most popular cocktails on the menu, I tried assuring to the manager I was a barman myself and I knew what the taste profile of the cocktail should be, but she seemed to be in no mood to even attempt to listen or begin to take my general disatisfaction into consideration and instead firmly insisted she would not remove or replace the drink for something different and suggested we try something more "simple" instead. Well I have taken her advice into consideration and I will now recommend to friends and family to not waste their time or money on ordering cocktails and go for something simple instead. Water. Which I do advise on bringing your own and hopefully and they'll provide a glass. To all the locals out there I strongly suggest to give this place a pass and enjoy the plethora of other fine restaurants the Waterfront has to offer, for all the tourists that unwittingly seem to pass through their doors, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was at the restaurant upstairs, excellent food and excellent service. I had the most beautiful seafood platter and everything was fresh. I’d go back and definitely recommend it.

If only I could rate 1 star. The food was as dry as biltong, the service took 20 munster for a menu (on 2 separate visits) and then the follow ups from your social media are nothing less than dismal. Highly disappointed as this was a venue that I loved bringing visitors to.

Very nice place for a hangout, good live music and very cold draught beer. Will definitely visit again.

I had to send my cocktail back twice. First one was old, like a leftover from someone else's order wasn't cold. Second one was tasteless. My portion of fish was so overcooked that it was like biltong. The calamari was very nice. I just feel that for a restaurant that is frequented by many tourists there is a lot of space for improvement.

We regulars at this restaurant. But of late the standard of service , from the hostesses at front of house , to the waitrons is becoming poor. I can understand that the restaurant is busy , but as a patron , we there to spend money and to enjoy a good meal, so your service shouldn’t feel like it’s an inconvenience. I will never be rude to staff. I’m not wired that way , but the last four visits have been less than enjoyable. The quality and standard of food is also just average , but I quite like certain meals on the menu , so keep coming back for those. All I ask , that as a patron , your staff are a little more accommodating. As a local, I shudder to think what tourist feel like if they get the same service. And in an environment where u are spoilt for choice , I think that extra step in service could be the difference between Good and Great ! It’s doesn’t hurt to smile.

Dear Quay 4 team, I would like to bring to you attention a dissapointing experience we had at your restaurant on Wednesday. My husband and I surprised our moms to a dinner in the Waterfront and we chose to bring them to Quay 4. We are not people to complain and didn't want to spoil their evening by making a scene but you need to know this to improve your service as well as the food. We spent a substantial amount at your resturant. Firstly my husband and I had kingklip it was dry, stiff and tasteless and overcooked, it was not fresh and flaky. Then my mom and husband had chocolate mousse it tasted grainy as if it was a shop packet put together no smooth fluffy aerated as we know it. We also had a waiter who was lacking enthusiasm, all our request could not be met therefore we will not revisit your establishment after this experience. Hope that you encourage the waiters to be more friendly.

My baby sister and I are visiting Cape Town from New Zealand. As a highlight of our trip we visited the Waterfront on Monday (29 January 2018) for some shopping and opted to have lunch at this establishment. I was not only annoyed, but also deeply offended by the manner in which we were treated. The service was (euphemistically) reluctant and in stark contrast to the service metred out to their other patrons. For all intents and purposes we were blatantly ignored for the most part of our sitting and there were very few seated tables. I noted with disgust that we were the only mixed race persons present. I was forced to request a menu after being seated for a while, once our drinks order arrived (ordered sans a drinks menu) the coffee was cold. We waited several more minutes and were compelled to request that our food order be taken. At the end of this meal I was informed that their systems were down and my bill could not be rung up. I was “instructed” to come with the waitress to pay my bill- there was no apology for the inconvenience either. This was a demeaning experience for us and one I do not intend on repeating... ever again.

In a time when majority of waiters get flustered with the holiday rush, Me and my family had the most pleasant experience. A waiter called Bongz 007 gave our family 5 star service. He was friendly and quick. Made sure our food arrived on time for us too eat as we had tickets for a boat trip. He was terrific with the kids and thought ahead bringing us a card masjine and the bill straight away so we can calmly enjoy our food. Bongz, James Bongz 007. Thank you for your amazing service. Our family will come back and book a seat at your table.
