Review Franky's Diner - Cape Town Central

Esmerelda Oosthuizen
What an experience! They have an enormous variety of milkshakes (consider sharing as they're huge!!!) and their food menu offers something for everyone (unless you want a salad - I'd advise you to stay far away if you're watching calories...). There is also a play area for the kids, as well as a kids-eat-free during the week special (certain times). The waiters are super friendly and accommodating. It has a very relaxed atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

Friendly and good service. Great atmosphere. The Chubby burger challenge was very delicious but couldn't finish it under 10 minutes. Will come more prepared next time, highly recommended!

All American Cafe style joint. It is well themed and the menu supports the theme. The burger and fries were lacking in taste, but the shakes and craft beer make up for it. We also had fantastic service.

Must do for anybody passing through Cape Town!! There is a giant burger challenge - definitely not for the faint hearted. The vibe is amazing and chilled and it is extremely easy to relax here. The food is cheap and the more expensive but exceptionally delicious milkshakes comes with the milkshake remains in the shaker, so you get 2 milkshakes. Do not attempt to eat a full meal and have a milkshake - it might be too much!! But there is always take aways!

The way I love the food at Franky's you won't understand. Besides from the one time I had a kak experience with the staff. I don't stop going there... and the pictures on their walls are just captivating. 👌 I've got to warn you about their prices though.. they aren't open 24 hours for nothing😂😂
Gideon Burger
Amazing food. Staff and vibe. Definitely a must go restaurant in sea point. Bring a date, have a milkshake.
Mornez du Raan
Great service! Awesome vibes, awesome for small children during the day and great for drinks in the evening. The only reason for the 4 star rating is the food. You definitely get what you pay for, just lacks in flavor.
Frans
Great American styled restaurant with a well executed theme. Had a delicious milkshake with a bacon and cheese burger and some curly fries... definitely recommend paying them a visit when your in the area!
Gerrit Vermeulen
Great milkshakes! Try the piggy burger (it has a bacon patty and is topped with cheese and more bacon) - it's rich and salty and filled with bacon-y goodness.
Peter Browne
Great value for money! Lovely friendly staff and they even gave us the excess that was left over from the milkshake.
Chad Flores
I ordered this via UberEats to have it delivered to my workplace in Green Point. Wow, this burger along with it's fries, coleslaw and onion rings was absolutely succulent. Well done, team; keep up the good work and I will definitely recommend Franky's diner to any visitor of Sea Point or Cape Town.
Charice Fenner
Huge delicious portions of food, we all left with a doggie bag to enjoy later. Their milkshakes are life changing as for the flavours definitely spoilt for choice. The atmosphere was awesome. Thanks Frankies see you very soon

Franky’s Diner is exactly a diner. The food is exactly as described with simple meals on the menu. The food felt like it was unhealthy in the manner it was cooked.

If it’s real American Style Dining you are looking for, Franky’s is definitely your best bet. Presentation of the food was appealing to the eye & we received our meals in a short space of time. Their “southern fried wings & BBQ sauce” and their Piggy 🐷 Burger 🍔 was a hit! Not forgetting my all time FAV...the legendary Corn Dog 😱 The service was fairly good as well. With that being said... it’s a Yes from me 👌🏻

Franky’s Diner is the closest thing to a true American Diner that you’ll ever find in Cape Town. From the décor to the menu – it’s a restaurant that transports you to 50s America, and it’s absolutely delightful.

I visited Franky’s five years ago (shortly after they opened I think) and we dressed up in proper 50s/60s clothing, hair and makeup (super fun idea for a party) and it was a jol. We had delicious diner fair (milkshakes, curly fries and burgers) and we had fun playing around on the jukebox. All in all it was a great outing.

I went there a few days ago again, this time with my grandparents and I’m glad to say that Franky’s has expanded, but stayed true to their USA diner essence. We had the Banana Split to share and it was amazing! Banana Split is not something you find on a menu easily, and this one was an absolute treat. The toasted nuts really made this decadent dessert something to write home about!

They’re open 24/7 – like a real American Diner should be haha. Visit Franky’s for a delicious milkshake, Americana nostalgia, and deep fried deliciousness.

Open 24 hours 😊
Proper American diner experience.
Service was good at 2am.
Food was excellent.
Was a nice experience.
Milkshakes are to die for.
Amy Wardle
American style diner that is open 24hrs is an amazing concept considering it is close to all of the bars. The cheese sauce is thick and creamy but everything you could want from this type of place. The chips were crisp and the toasted sandwich was as unhealthy as it comes but completely indulgent. Somewhere you go to stuff your face and enjoy every second of it

I recommend this place to everyone! I had their bacon maple waffles. It was golden waffles, crispy bacon with lots of maple syrup - just the right ratio! My partner had a milkshake which took us back to our childhood. They even brought the extra bit that didn’t fit in the glass to the table. They have such a big milkshake menu so we’re sure to be back. Plus they are 24/7!
Nanie Thabede
American style 90s diner that’s open 24 hours and has amazing burgers. They’re very generous with their fries and in case you missed it the first time, they have amazing burgers - hands down. The service is great and you can get a discount if you have the Entertainer App x
Matshepo Motlanthe
A place to visit if you have that craving for food that you see on an all-American 70’s movie. The decor just takes you straight to the scene of an American diner. The menu keeps with the theme as well. Enjoyed their milkshakes and had a footlong hotdog that didn’t taste too bad...loved the fries though. Oh and it’s open 24 hours a day!!!

Milkshakes, Milkshakes, Milkshakes!!

Although it is on the pricey side (R58 for the standard flavours), it is worth it!! The number of flavours they have are crazy, and even the unusual flavours surprisingly work!! Bubblegum and Kiwi was the highlight of the table from all the flavours we tried. The size of the shake is quite large and filling!

Unfortunately the service at 1am was quite poor!! They did not seem too happy to serve us and the service was quite slow as well!

In terms of the food - Don't try to come here being healthy!! The restaurant is a true American Themes restaurant with oily, fried, classic fast food which you would kind of expect from the overall theme! However, the oil from the curly fried was quite excessive (and to be honest quite average considering the reviews), but I guess that's what you go there for.

The theme was quite nice though, they even have an old school jukebox which is available to use! The decor and art is great as well!!

If the service was better we would have probably enjoyed the experience more! But for those of you looking for a place to go to after midnight that isn't McDonalds, then this is definately a place to consider!

Was really looking forward to eating at frankys and finally me and my wife decided to go. Food was OK , I expected more. There was some type of wow factor missing . It just seemed audinary, like everyday home food. But loved the corn dog. One of my favourites since American corndog closed in Canal Walk.
GEONHEE KIM
It’s a great 24hr restaurant in Sea Point neighborhood. You can often see people drinking outside in good weather. They do karaoke, have music box so create good vibe.

I tried a few different food there for last couple of visits.

Corndog - PLEASE DO TRY! it’s delicious! and use lots of ketchup and mustard on table!!

Burger - I think it was average

Waffle - it is good ish but looks like they just warm it up before serving.

Chicken wing - My boyfriend said it need more seasoning. I think this is because their chicken is not heavily dusted with spices like KFC. But I sort of like it cause of the crispy batter.

Shake - Wide variety of shake! I liked it :) but it maybe a bit too sweet for people who don’t enjoy sweet things.

Go there if you need hangover snack or light drink!
Juan Van Wyk
This diner is open 24 hours and this place resembles a classic American diner with really decent food. It is relatively cheap and definitely a place to go to if you are a milkshake lover. they have a classic jukebox and sometimes have karaoke nights. Definitely try the onion rings, curly fries, and the mac and cheese.
Oratile Rati Mashoto Morethe
The staff is super friendly and so patient. The milkshakes are fantastic, there's such a huge variety. The food is great as well, I liked the fries.
Emma Divaris
One of the only places like it in Cape Town! I would go there more for the decor and the vibe, rather than the food. But if you are looking for something unhealthy at any time of day or night, look no further than Franky's diner. Their milkshakes are good and their flapjacks are yummy too.
Tish_the_dish
love the style of the place, cool old school feel made me feel like I was in the grease movie haha food was great but portions are a bit to much so I do suggest you go super hungry! my husband tried their challenge and lost. but was alot of fun
Alex The Entertainer
---ENTERTAINER ACCEPTED--- ACCEPTED FOR ANY MENU ITEM EXCEPT FOR THE CHUBBY BURGER CHALLENGE! This of course does not include milkshakes desserts and such.

***NOTE*** Posiibly due to the Cape Town Water crisis if you request water at this venue, you will receive bottled water which you have to pay R7-R9, just please be advised.

I had to go twice to get the full experience, my first experience was late night and always wanted the 24hr Frankys experience, initially seated outside and there is notice to advise a waiter yiu would like to sit outside, it can get quite windy in Sea point, ordered the Double Southern Fried chicken burger and it was satisfying however the cheese was overkill, but was still enjoyable, never managed to finish however this was not a problem, you need be cautious of the company around if planning to head through after 1am, but I'm sure it would be expected.

My second visit was a blissful Sunday sat outside as I wanted to do my previous visit ( These visits were within a week apart) the sun can be unrealistically hot, this time round I had the beef burger was just enough to hit the spot! And on both occasions milkshakes which are divine you are given the milkshake along with the ice cream separate.

Will visit again love the retro old school decor and would love to visit when they have an event at the venue and would definitely like to visit to attempt the chubby burger challenge.
Natalie Christians
Extremely slow service . The waitress noticed out empty glasses (we only had milkshakes) , yet still continued to just stroll past us and ignoring us .
Coenraad Mulder
Want that American 50's diner experience by wondrously clotting your arteries... This is the place, the friendly staff an Elvis impersonator bringing you the classics. You have to try the milkshakes, they have more flavours you can shake a stick at, plus flavours you could never imagine..and it is a lot of milkshake, the food is also big. This greasy spoon runs 24 hours, forget McDonald's for ensuring your after party survival, this place is the Mother Theresa of hangover cures. Also each diner comes with a usb and power point, for charging that dead battery to ensure that Uber will get you home or for that long overdue drunk dail...
Madeegha
Just received the worst service!
Incorrect milkshakes - Way to much syrup - no glasses - sloppy banana split - warm milkshakes & the wait was pathetic!!!

Expectations were high & so was the bill for putrid drinks!

Ended up buying water from the shop!
Should employ more staff during festive season and after hours.
Natalie
If you are looking for classic American burgers and hotdogs smothered in all that unhealthy but oh so good stuff you need to come here.
The milkshakes are made with fresh ingredients and are a good portion size to complete the experience...

I have been here two too many times now.

The first time I went with three other people, one of which had tried the chubby burger challenge. About 3 minutes into the challenge he started choking and found that there was still plastic packaging stuck between the patties( For reals?!) Which leads me to believe that the patties weren’t even cooked properly- GROSS!

The food was brought fairly quickly however , my hotdog roll was clearly stale as well as the cheese past it’s expiry date (almost translucent and foul smelling - again GROSS).

Should I even mention that when the bill came, they had the audacity to charge us for the burger challenge which he obviously did not complete due to asphyxiation on plastic ? 😂 (these laughing faces are ironic)

The second time I went was fairly recent, as a group of us wanted to try the waffles. We had asked for the ice cream on the side and to no surprise came the waffles with ice cream slapped on top. Already annoyed that it was the manager who had served us and made the mistake we sent the waffles back and requested fresh waffles with ice cream ON THE SIDE (the ice cream had made the waffle base soggy). Our waffles came back appearing fresh and crispy , however , upon inspection, we realized they had literally flipped them over and just disguised the other side of the soggy waffles (😂wth? ). Obviously, we sent those back too. At the end of it all, the waffles came back flat as pancakes, clearly repressed or toasted in something other than a waffle maker.

Over all:

Ambience - Dirty floors. Dirty tables and counters. Over all poor hygiene.

Service - Atrocious. ‘Nuff said.

Food - Subpar. Sometimes stale.

Redeeming factors - Milkshakes. Corn bread. 24h service. Cool photo opps for the gram.
Rachael Laura Wahl
First impression is not the best. It seemed to give off a filthy interior.. the food was not good at all. I didn’t enjoy my hotdog... the milkshake I had was good and it was so nice that they gave me the remainder of the milkshake.
Estelle Roux
Food was delicious and well priced, we loved the vibe and will definitely be back for karaoke 😉but the curly fries were quite oily and soggy, and all balled up in one huge knot of oily potato. Also love the idea of serving the food in baskets, but it made the process of eating our hotdogs quite messy and unpleasant as there wasn't much room and there were lots of toppings spilling through the holes in the basket on to the table.

I order from Frankys diner in Seapoint occasionally on UberEATS - which is a pity, because I suspect that a lot of the oily dishes are only half as tasty when they reach room temperature/cold.

I personally think the retro diner vibes is super cute, however on occasions that my boyfriend and I have visited - we have found that the actual restaurants ambiance and staff aren't up to standard.

I LOVE their corn bread - it's got real sweetcorn mixed into the batter and it's the perfect balance of sweet and savory (especially with some butter melted in!). They also make their toasted sandwiches with their corn bread - which makes for a super thick and juicy toastie. However, I was very disappointed once when I ordered on UberEATS their "build your own toastie" which was meant to automatically come with a side of chips and coleslaw .... my chips were cold and gross and I didn't even get the coleslaw that I had paid for/thought came with my meal.

I've also tried their corn dog which was tasty - but subpar to sausage saloon in canal walk! The batter is a little too plain and it needs more cornmeal crunch!

The prices at Frankys can also be a little off putting, however I feel that there are tons of affordable items and some hidden gem dishes and items on the menu!
Carl Thomas
I have always wanted to try Franky's, specifically the Chubby Burger challenge. However for dinner tonight I didn't take up the challenge. I ordered the bacon burger, 2 bacon (yes bacon) patties with crispy bacon between and on top and a cheese sauce. It was tasty and really filling.

Also ordered a burger, the southern style wings and hot dog for the rest of the family. All the food was good. I got what I expected from the establishment.

The service however was really bad. We weren't seated, went to sit down ourselves. Waiter put menus down on table and walked away without introducing himself, never asked if we wanted anything to drink. Also didn't check in after food arrived. The place just doesn't seem to have a nice vibe around it even though the food is good.
Wessel Brand
Good experience. Burger was nice, onion rings great and curly fries bit too oily, rather go for the normal cut fries. Staff very friendly and restaurant feel hip. All and all happy to return!
Chelyn De Graaf
Go there after a couple drinks are people's main idea defiantly will sober you up with Basically frozen food you buy at a cheap supermarket added to a half stale bun and then no real care from the management and staff once addressed
Paul Bester
Heard all these amazing stories and reviews about franky's milkshakes. I don't know hey. My cotton candy milkshake basically tasted like a pink nesquick milkshake I can make at home.
Alex
I find this place definitely overpriced considered the terrible service and the size/quality of the patties. I went there at night and the waiter didn't seems too happy to serve us. The table was quite sticky too
Shnapple
Good food, friendly and efficient service but that's where it ends. Tried it for the first time and doubt I will be back even though the food was real good. It was kareoke night it seems but to be bothered by one person no less than five times to sing was abit much, not to mention that this was taking during our meal. Learn to read body language!
Shenel Singh
Great 50's American diner vibe. The menu had a lot to offer, although the food was average, and did not meet my high expectations. The atmosphere was cozy and friendly, and even played retro music, which allowed us to sing and dance to while seated.
FoodieC
Good central location, and good service. The food is average, typical diner meals. The milkshakes are great though! I get the feeling this place can do with a bit more cleaning too. For example the couches are a bit sticky and the place doesn't look too neat.
Nicole Stacey
I love the whole diner theme!

The service from the staff was ok, food didnt take too long. The chips are a bit too oily but otherwise, the food was good. Definitely keen on trying other food on the menu in future.
Vanessa Van Vuuren
Great for teen party's and a footling hot dog! My son had the best time ever with the jukebox and sport tv's. The service were great but very crowded. Overall it was a fabulous experience.
Kezia Swanepoel
Got round to trying Franky's burgers for a super early supper before going to the movies.
Very welcoming and attractive place, love the booths and the vintage Coca Cola knick knacks.
Service was good, except the food itself took very long considering we ordered burgers and fries.
The burgers were good although curly fries were limp and oily and came in a big ball?
I would like to try other things on the menu and would love to come here for a sundae!
Anisha Pillay
Finally tried Franky's out this past weekend and was sadly disappointed. Aside from the good live performance, nothing stood out. The food was very average and overpriced. The service was probably the slowest service I've experienced in a long time. The waiters were friendly but ridiculously slow, something management should maybe look into.
Swazi Foodie
Franky's have the American diner down. Amazing variety of Milkshakes and they are amazing. Footlong dogs is good, burgers are really good. A great experience overall. A must stop in Cape Point.
Tia
The coolest 50's styled diner around! They are authentic and true to the theme with checked flooring, red booths and old school black and white photos on the walls. They offer the tastiest curly fries, burgers and amazing milkshakes (which are so big they bring you the extra bit in a separate jug!). Franky's has a really great atmosphere and you feel as though you've taken a step back in time to the 50's. The seating areas are quite comfortable with a relaxed ambiance and 50's music playing in the background. The food and service were great and it was overall a great experience. Would definitely recommend visiting this awesome diner!
Unopa Mazwigwila
I honestly feel in love with their sloppy joes..like it was soo delicious. I like the fact that it's 24hrs cause one can go have fun in town and come back a grab something to eat or coffee. The atmosphere is wonderful; karaoke is available and everyone is just friendly.
Tracy Thompson
Although you kinda know what to expect from an off street 60's style diner eatery, you kinda still hope for the best...but the kid loves corn dogs, so wherever I find a place that serves it up with great shakes to boot...I'm there.

The food was good {do the regular fries...the curly fries should be renamed tangled fries and holds way too much oil for my heart to approve} the gourmet shakes were delicious, their variety causes a headache so just eeny meeny miny mo it! {Oh, the fact that they bring you the left overs in the silver tub is a plus} service was decent & quick but the venue itself needs some love & affection. I had the cheese burger with curly fries, it comes with a few onion rings and a dash of coleslaw. The kid had the corndog{S} ..it was delicious. NB to note at this point - I love a good burger...but have not found one that totally tickles my privates yet...this one came close, but no cigar. All in all, it was a decent quick bite in Sea Point Main Road on a Saturday afternoon before we headed off to do some roof top bar surfing for non-alcoholic drinks...because she's only 11 after all.
Brandon
Looking to try something different then this this the place to go.Live 60's music sung by an Elvis Impersonator.Milkshakes are amazing and the waitrons are so friendly.Went there at 1am in the morning and everyone was still friendly. The place operates 24 hours.
Nel
Not my most favorable places when looking for food late at night after a night out (when you don't want McDonald's). The ribs I ordered were more cartilage than meat and a bit chewy. Did not find that satisfactory but the wait staff was nice and treated us with utmost respect even after I mentioned that the ribs weren't really a vibe. Approach with caution I say.
Claire Victoria Henderson
For those looking for a cute and quirky restaurant that is fun, Franky's Diner is perfect. Kitted out from head-to-toe in red, this authentic looking diner gives me all the feels.

Whether you want to take you family - it's perfect for the little ones as there is an indoor soft play area - or get a boozy milkshake and burger with your friends, Franky's Diner is a superb place to grab a good meal surrounded by some amazing memorabilia.

Recommendations: Franky's Grilled Chicken Burger with Curly Fries - yes, you read that right, CURLY FRIES - and onion rings. My absolute weakness!
Johann Rossouw
Great experience at Franky's Diner. The service was fantastic - especially from our waitress, Memory. The food was top-class and the prices are really reasonable considering the quality and portion size. Will definitely be back. Cannot recommend these guys highly enough!
Renier Wessels
Retro interior, friendly staff and amazing milkshakes. Even though the milkshakes are R50/R60 it's definitely worth it as you get a lot of milkshake and a lot of flavour. Unfortunately didn't eat anything though
Robin Mahlangu
Went to Franky's to try out one of their milkshakes. It's open 24 hours so it was convenient to cater for a late night craving. Had the pina colada milkshake which was pretty good. Keen to go back and try out some of their food.
Sarita Kerber
Absolutely love this American style diner and even better it's open 24hours a day. Great burger and out of this world tasty milkshakes. All burgers come with fries, onion rings and coke slaw so you definitely get your monies worth. I shared the barone milkshake with my Friend and it so delicious.
Nonnie Ngcobo
Nice 24 hour joint. We went there at 2 am for Milkshakes. I highly recommend their Ferrero Rocher milkshake, IT IS OTHER- WORLDY!!
I didn't particularly like their Dagwood toast. Their service was very slow considering that we were the only people in the diner.
Ashirvad Lobo
Walked in for a late night dinner. Fantastic food and ambience. Had the prawns and chips basket, a naughty milkshake and a grilled chicken burger. A true 50's diner experience.
Hannah T3
Best milkshake in town, ok good for burger, not good for old- oil fried chips.

No need to say anything. I don't want a slow death.

Had the food improved it is a cool place to be.
Ruan De Goede
Great little diner :)

Burgers are quite big but the best is the awesome milkshakes.

They have a cool chubby burger challenge which I am yet to try.
Ryan Goodman
A 50s style American diner complete with booths, 50s rock music and bric a brac.

Seemed like a fun idea....The milkshakes were fantastic and the curly fries a novelty. The burgers were however awful (read Mcdonalds quality) and the wait staff a bit clueless.

All in all it misses the mark
Mthakazi Magodla
I went to Frankys on Sunday evening, the restaurant was not busy. So surely you would expect excellent service and food made to the best of the kitchen staffs ability, as they are not pushed. My friend and I ordered burgers and i ordered a milkshake. Milkshake was chunky but maybe that's because I chose the snicker milkshake, my burger patty was overdone and the waiter went to exchange for a medium patty as the menu says it provides. When returned it was more rare than medium and the cheese I had asked had been forgotten, I didn't bother to complain again, I had 1 bite and took it as takeaway. On the the positive side, My son really enjoyed the play area and enjoyed his chicken nuggets and chips. For me I was not impressed.
Nic Hern
Great little spot in the heart of Sea Point. Very simple food at a very reasonable price👍🏻 the burgers were delicious and the milkshakes were out of this world! One of the guests at our table attempted the Chubby Burger challenge but it proved to great a feat! All in all a good evening 👍🏻
Safeeya
Overrated milkshakes, expected the diverse range to at least taste like something they advertise. However friendly service and relaxed vibe.
Leonardo Sforza
Really cool old school dinner on Sea Point main road. The food was amazing and the look and feel of the dinner was also great as it felt like I was in the 1950's. I had one of their famous burgers which was soft, tender and filled with great flavours. I also had a peanut butter milkshake which tasted like heaven.
Danieljake
The only South African establishment to truly hit the '50's American style diner' nail on the head. The service was great with super friendly staff. They have the most unbelievable milkshake selection (selection is the 2nd biggest ever seen only to Gibson's at V&A). Their milkshakes aren't heavily diluted with milk either. Super thick and creamy, very similar in texture to The Creamery and servings are big. The fact that they're open 24 hours and deliver until 2am is truly remarkable. Will definitely be back.
Wez_Undercover
It is your whole vintage American diner vibes. Tasty, thick and sweet milkshakes. I like their food but it's not really up my alley. But a great place to take the kids and family.
The Monique Van Tonder
So... hubby and I went for a hike up Lions Head... We got hangry and decided to visit this awesome diner. First of all the decor is truly American, with Coke branding everywhere and a vintage Juke Box. We ordered our drinks, and what a great Milkshake menu they have. I had the Berry Sensual (Naughty Shake). It consists of White Rum infused with blackberries and chocolate... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Yum! Hubby had the Caramello Bear which, as the name says, Caramel with Vodka and soft serve ice cream. Also yum... The only thing was, we ordered our mains, but the shakes made us way too full! LOL... We had to take my corn dog and fries and hubby's chilli cheese dog and fries home for dinner... Im sure we will enjoy our mains, even as doggy bags... A must visit...
Garethjpollock
Having read some of the reviews about Franky's I was excited to go and try it..... disapointed is the only word to use. The only thing I would go there for again are the milkshakes. The burger I had was too salty and very average. I hope my experience was a one off.....

We didn't actually get to eat at Franky's and were put off by staff attitude before we tried it. We decided on the spur of the moment to use our Groupon for Franky's but we hadn't booked and didn't realise we needed to. The waiter who greeted us as we walked in was great, but had to pass us on to a lady who was apparently in charge of the booking ledger. We said to her that we hadn't booked and her response without listening (or a smile) was "name?" as she opened the ledger. I gave her my name and said again we hadn't booked and her response was "not here" as she tapped the book. Again I said we hadn't booked, but there was not a single other customer in the restaurant, and she said "must book" and stared at us. My husband said "but we've driven from Claremont and no-one else is here" and she just continued to stare at us like she wished we would go away. So we went away and had a wonderful meal at a restaurant down the road. There are only two restaurants in my life (age 45) that I have been made to feel completely unwelcome in, and this is one of them. If we manage to use our Groupon before the deadline with the two days notice required, then it will be the first and last time we visit Franky's as there are plenty of other places to go where the staff actually know what customer service is.
EatMe
If it's a serious junk food craving you're trying to satisfy, this is the place. The corn dogs were better than expected and the fries were golden crisp. Best thing though was the milkshake: I ordered a double thick and they not only filled the huge glass to the brim, they served almost half as much again on the side (the "leftovers" after they made my milkshake). Was so thick I had to eat it with a spoon!

Only disappointment was the lack of Horlicks, so couldn't have a malted. And the service, though friendly, wasn't particularly attentive. Still, a cool spot and best of all: open 24/7.
Kgonego Mogane
Personally didn't like the food, it was quite tasteless, i think it's a great place to go after a night of drinking considering it's open 24 hrs. Otherwise I loved the interior decor and American feel it had.
Lindie White
So where do you go after lazing around all Sunday afternoob and realising at 9h15 that you're quite peckish and you want to try something new? You see what's within walking distance, right? Are you nuts!

That's what we did.

We walked to Franky's American Sryle Diner because they're open 24hrs. It made us feel young and reckless, but then we noticed there were quite a few other diners who had the same idea. We asked the waitress if they ever have a quiet time during the night and she said not because there's a Grandslots through the back. That figures.

Anyway, we had fun with the Double Footlong Chilli Dog and Ribs & Wings basket. It was filling and much tastier (and more adfordable) than the NYC versions, but it's junk food with a capital J.

The restaurant has an authentic American diner feel and is fitted in sparkling chrome and red vinyl with booths, each with its own TV (Greg was happy to watch Stenton and Day in the PGA).

The waitress was kind enough to organise me a charge cable for my phone (so I could snap photos of the food).

Perhaps not a place for haute cuisine, but a fun venue for an alcohol laced milkshake or a late night grab-a-grub.

Franky's is a saviour. As one of the only places in town open 24/7, we chose it as a 3am dive after Dizzy's failed us. Amazing staff, excellent chicken burgers and homemade mac and cheese makes it one of the best afterparty spots in the city. Will return and rescore soon after I try their milkshakes.

Our favorite hangout place specially on Saturday's night, where a singer adds to the original atmosphere with sixties and seventies music ... Their burger and footling hotdogs are very good but their milkshake is to die for.

Popped here for a bite to eat on a Friday eve, and it was bustling byt not hectic - we managed to grab a 2-person booth. What amazed me is each one has its own little tv! I think its for the karaoke but the cricket was on which was great!
What made me smile was a man dressed up as Elvis singing an array of live music in the restaurant too :)
Our waitress was very friendly, and service was quick. They have some great menu items, and if you're looking for comfort, American junk food, its the right place. They have double Southern fried chicken burgers, wings, hot dogs, mac n cheese, bacon patty burgers (yes you read correctly) but we ordered ordinary beef burgers with extra jalapenos. It comes with normal fired, curly fries or coleslaw.
The burgers were delish! At R5, the extra order of jalapenos was generous, and could easily be shared.
The milshake flavours are amazing and looked that way too!
Franky's is open 24 hours and I'll definitely be back!

we had the nicest milkshakes here. the Oreo milkshake was unreal and the Ferreror Roche milkshake had real pieces of the chocolate in it. very impressed with the Jukebox that was playing there and the bubblegum ball machine made the whole experience 💃🏼💃🏼. I will be back soon for a burger

We have been going to Franky's since its inception, even before the play area was added. Love the American style diner with the booths and the bar. Love the milkshakes and the burgers, totally love the burgers. Full of flavor and soft buns.

My only complaint is the onion rings. I love the batter style onion rings with the crunchy outside and soft onion.

The services is great, warm and friendly. I'll always come back to here again and again.

Walking through the door of Franky's Diner with hound-dog music in the background you are transported to another era. Franky's Diner couldn't be more '50s.

Red leather bar-style stools line the counter in the middle. Coke memorabilia and cool Coke branded serviette and straw dispensers are displayed on the tables to round off the ambience of the restaurant. The walls are decorated with pictures of famous movie and music icons...oh and you can't miss the jukebox!!

The menu offers an array of simple but classic food. Items include burgers (single /double or beef /chicken) along with coleslaw, fries and onion rings. We have been here several times on different occasions and the food was always great. This time around we opted for their burgers as take aways.

They have some great milkshakes with flavours like Chocolate Fudge, Banana & Macadamia and Peanut Butter & Jam. Other diner classics include Waffles, Doughnuts, and Sundaes including the Banana Split.

For the more challenging people they offer the Chubby Burger - consists of 6 Beef patties served with bacon, cheese, jalapeño chillies, fries and all the trimmings. You gave to finish it all in under 10 minutes in order to get it for free. Plus your name will be proudly displayed on the wall of fame. Be warned - this is not for the faint hearted if you have high cholesterol!

The food is good, American style. Great place to come and satisfy those late night rib/pancakes and bacon craving.

Also nice, quiet and discreet

Great for an authentic American Diner experience. Their ribs are great and their milkshakes are incredible. Their late operating hours make a seriously tempting option post drinks (for that second dinner) lol. I've not been dissatisfied at any of my visits.

Tried Frankys this past weekend .. we ordered 2 double burgera with cheese and bacon . Very nice and you can tast good quality meat . I got the extra cheese sause and was pleasently suprised to see it was real cheese and not the horrid processed things you normally find ... there chocolaye milkshakes are seriously yummy

Franky's is such a great place. Reminds me of a vintage 50s American diner, complete with retro Coca-Cola furniture and a jukebox. I love it because its casual and they serve great food. Portions are always plentiful. Their Gourmet milkshakes are amazing and whats so awesome is that they give you the left overs in the mixing canister too!! They're also 24 hours open and offer delivery.

A real wide variety of milkshakes to choose from. Best one has to be the Ferrero Roche shake. Burgers were very tasty and huge. Coleslaw was tasty too. Will definitely be back sometime for those shakes.

We popped in here a while back (will upload the images as soon as I find it) and had a baked potato with mince for breakfast. It wasn't on the menu, but it was some special breakfast on that particular Sunday. The potatoes were HUGE and really soft! It was also really filling, especially with the tasty mince.

We visited Franky's on a bustling Saturday evening, per the request of our son who loves the play area. Our meals were unanimously enjoyed - mac n cheese for myself, which was super tasty and a great deal at R45, and a whopping double southern fried chicken burger for my partner, which was super tasty. The kids menu was pretty standard frozen fare. I've had one of the milkshakes here previously, and that was delicious too. Only complaint was the service - took aaaaaaaages after being seated for a waiter to remember us, our food came through all separately, and drinks came through long after food - after we had to ask for them twice. Bit of a shambles in that regard. Other than that I love the diner decor - a lot of detail and effort has gone into it - and there was even live entertainment (a dude with backing tracks and bongo drums). We would come back again - if for nothing else an awesome venue with indoor entertainment for kids.

Love the look and feel.
Tv's everywhere for the rugby crazy me.
Food is cheap! I had a problem with my food, but the rest of the table (8pax) had enjoyed their food very much and even went back for more.
Milkshakes were so amazing, and huge! That made my day!
Will be back to try it again!

I love the American feel that the restaurant has. Wasn't completely in love with the food, there wasn't anything particularly amazing about it but it tasted good.
I give the milkshakes a 11/10 !
the fact that the residue is added to the glass makes me smile so much !
Fun place to grab a milkshake with friends

Having stayed in Sea Point on a week long holiday I regret only visiting here on my last night. The closest thing to visiting an actual American diner. Amazing milkshakes and they even give you the extra milkshake to top yours up with. Had the amazing southern fried chicken wing and rib basket with curly fries. This place makes me want to come back to the Mother City and try everything on the menu. And it's open 24 hours! Please open one in Gauteng!

I had the pleasure of dinning at Franky's Diner on my last night in Cape Town....I had a oreo milkshake which was divine. We had the chilli cheese dog, hamburger and curly fries with the bacon and cheese sauce on the side. The fries were served as a side along with the meal and the portion was huge. The cheese and bacon sauce was out of this world. Franky's has managed to capture the look and feel of the classic American dinner...I would definitely recommend a visit to this little treasure.

Tried out Franky's for the first time this past weekend, was really looking forward to it but it didn't live up to my expectations. Unfriendly staff and oily overpriced food for what you receive. Oreo milkshake was very good though. Definitely have potential to be great but disappointed overall.
Laura
This place was horrible. Ordered a chocolate shake that came so overloaded with chocolate sauce I couldn't drink it (and for R50!!!). The curly fries were gross and came as a big clump. They were hardly cooked and actually tasted old. So many great burger/shake joints, I'll never go here again.
Tiyaarah Cloete
Decent milkshakes. Reminds me sort of of my dad's place doogies that burnt down a few years ago. Love the them. I expected more from the fries

I've only ever been to Franky's diner for a late night dessert, but they do have quite a few good typical diner meals on their menu. What's great is that they are open 24/7 and the diner experience is definitely worth the visit.

If you love 50s-style diner vibes then you must check out this spot. The menu offers a good selection of burgers, footlongs, and other typical diner food. Try the curl fries with cheese and bacon bits or the Mac & cheese. Their shakes are also a winner!

It's rare to receive such unhealthy food in our plate (or plastic basket) in 2016. Almost everything is too saucy, sweet or fat. It does not seem impossible to keep the restaurant's concept (US/50s) with an improved focus on food quality and method of cooking. Quantities are too big but perhaps this goes with a trade off on quality...

Too bad, service was friendly and the kids corner is appreciated (even if dirty) but for our family health, we will avoid this place in these conditions.

One word - milkshake! The diner-theme is quite cute and if that's your thing you'll enjoy it here. As for me, I'll skip the entire menu and head straight for a milkshake. So many options to choose from and the best part - there is always a little extra on the side.

UNFORTUNATELY THE PREVIOUS POOR REVIEWS AND PROMISES TO USE THE INFO TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEMS HAVE NOT BEEN ACTED ON. THE SERVICE WAS VERY POOR, SO WERE THE CHICKEN WINGS, FIRSTLY FRIED DARK BROWN AND BONE DRY, THE SECOND ATTEMPT WAS GOLDEN BROWN BUT THE CHICKEN WAS STILL RAW. THE CHEESE SAUCE FOR THE CURLY FRIES WAS AS THICK AS PORRIDGE AND LUMPY. MOST DISTASTEFUL, UNFORTUNATELY WE COULD NOT STAY LONGER FOR THE STAFF TO TRY A 3RD TIME TO GET IT RIGHT. MUST BE A MASSIVE STRAIN ON THE FOOD COST??

Okay, so it is definitely one of the most underrated diners I've been to. With an amazing authentic American diner feel, it's a brilliant place to catch a bite with some friends. The portions are huuuge and packed with flavour. There prices are extremely reasonable and they're open 24 hours, so you're able to get your comfort food fix at any hour of the day. The service is brilliant, the food was brought to us timeously. The vibe and atmosphere as an old school diner feel to it, as though you're transported back to the set of grease. I loved it, would definitely go back. Firdous Ahmed

When we walked in the restaurant it really gave you that 80th century vibe with a hint of modern age! The chubby burger challenge was a real challenge for my date. It was a good time even if our names are going on wall of shame 😁. Their burgers are a delight and it's a good family resturant! I recommend this burger joint for anyone with a taste of challenges and a appetite for burgers! Edison Jun Zhou

An absolute experience ... great food ... even better milkshakes ... and a phenomenal live artist. I will definitely be back. You have to make this part of your Cape Town holiday.

I had a really good time at Franky's Diner. The restaurant looks great it really is 50's styled and the staff are very friendly! There's also this guy that sings old school songs and it makes the restaurant even better. It's a real fun environment.. The food is really good, very oily but that's American Diner style food so we knew it would be.. I had a Cheese and Chilli dog with Curly fries, the Hotdog was good, the jalapeños on it was super hot though a bit too hot for me but still good, the Curly fries are amazing I will seriously go back to eat more curly fries!! We also shared 2 alcoholic milkshakes The James Dean and Caramello Bear soso yummy and it's massive.. I was so stuffed after this outing.. But I will def be going back to Franky's, they're open 24/7 so it's a perfect spot to snack after a long night out!

Omw, this place is awesome. My boyfriend and I went 3 weeks in a row. Real authentic American Diner food. Their milkshakes are the best I've ever tasted.

The only thing I was disappointed at was the cinnamon donuts. It was ridiculously small and was like R28 but the other food was amazing.

Keep up the great work! 👍🏽

Ended up here on Sunday afternoon, after lunch in hout bay. Perfect way to end off the day... double thick snickers milkshake is my recommendation or maybe a waffle

I'm always ecstatic to find a child friendly restaurant. This one takes the cake (and milkshake). My two young boys had the best time in the awesome play area and having their faces painted by a professional face painter. The food was delicious, my ribs were so tender they fell from the bone & hubbies burger looked amaaazing. As a self confessed sweet tooth who usually cannot be tamed, the Ferrero Rocher milkshake was the best thing since sliced bread. I actually don't want to see chocolate for the rest of the week (which is rare for me).I loved that I got the leftover milkshake foodies from the blender, it allowed me to top up my milkshake 3 times, so well worth the R55. Lovely staff and attentive manager. We will definitely be back very soon!

Lovely diner feel, juke box available to play a golden oldie. I love their milkshakes, their burgers with sides never ceases to disappoint. Didn't like the oil smell that was hanging in the air when the place got packed... not sure why but ja that was the only thing we didn't like. Fresh and tasty burgers. Will go again when in the area.

The corn bread looks untidy. Dish over covered with oil from the eggs and mince that looks like it was from yesterday and off taste. Totally lost my appetite.

When yoy need that better Burger in town this is the place to get it nice and quiet on a Sunday and the milkshakes are the bomb the Chocoholic is my fav so far

It's no test kitchen date venue, but what a great diner. Food tasty, happy atmosphere, and really great service. Great spot for a gathering of friends.
