Review Shimmy Beach Club - Cape Town Central

Deirdre Pasquallie
I loved the chilled setting. Being able to look over the waters and have sand at your feet but also have the option of sitting and enjoying a meal and cocktails. Then having the option of dancing to the beats of whatever music is playing is great. Since there was no event happening, we didn't pay an entry fee and I really enjoyed my burger actually, which I think was reasonably priced at R140 for the meal. Cocktail prices were also reasonable, and the waitress was fantastic.

A really incredible venue-right on the water, good food and drink and great music. I had the chance the see Black Coffee who had a summer residency there. Security can be tight, but overall very helpful and friendly staff. Get a table if you can afford it, so much easier and worth it!

Simply love everything about it... From the amazing food to the incredible view. I once took my very busy toddler along during daytime, and he was well taken care of in the comfortable play area, with its own designated child minder. I was super happy with that experience.

Very beautiful place. Was just at the lounge side. The cocktails were unique and delicious. There is a pool outside. And over the wall you can see the beach. Seating inside and outside. The deserts are limited but also unique and delicious. Enjoyed the experience. Would like to go there when there is a party going on.

Higher end place so the prices are a bit higher here compared to Long st tourist area but the food, service and view make up for the price. We had the Benedict burger and chicken ceaser. Both were delicious in their own right. The Benedict burger was awesome. Juices from back bacon and perfectly cooked egg flowed with the flavor. Was surprised at the amount of meat in the ceaser. Bacon and chicken in abundance as well as anchovies. If you like lots of meat it will please you. If you are looking more for the greens it might be a bit much. Good value for your money. Sometimes a few extra rand is worth it to get quality food, service and view.

What a gorgeous location. I went on a day that was quite slow but the scenery and the weather couldn’t have been better. The drinks and sushi I ordered were delicious. I wish I could’ve experienced in place at night when I’m sure it’s packed to the brim and full of energy.

When I’m in Cpt - i always want to hang in the sun for a while- reading, just chilling with a view and on a cozy sun bed. Caused by the wind it’s often hard to find a beach to lay down without being peeled by the sand constantly. The only place where you can stay in the sun when it’s that windy is this beach club. It’s a bit fancy but not too much. I love the service, the view, reasonable prices and the modern atmosphere. The beach menu is perfect, the drinks as well. Dinner is also food. Love the dumplings :) I would recommend that place ❤️

Shimmy is a Restaurant/Café by day and Club by night which hosts some of the best parties with an awesome vibe, the entire venue has security so you feel much safer than at the usual club. It’s right on the Harbour so if you looking for a great place to go chill and watch the sunset or go to a party by the beach and watch the sunset then Shimmy is the place to go.

Had a great time at Shimmy. Our staff party was hosted there so the experience will be different to the norm. Still had a fun time. Losts of space to actually move around and dance. It's also really cool if the evening is amazing since it's right by the ocean.

The location is fantabulous, loved the place ,u can see yachts and ships sailing through, music was good ,the food was pretty ok as I am a vegetarian so not much of variety, the staff was courteous would definitely go back .

Lovely beach club and restaurant with amazing swimming pools overlooking the ocean. The food is great too, but seafood platters are slightly overpriced. If you are a meat person got for the 1kg ribs, you won't regret.

My first time at Shimmy's and must admit was rather quite good. We decided to go for a meal at this establishment, was 6 of us all together. The table was booked a day before and was not problem at all to accommodate us. When we arrived we were taking straight to our table and assigned a waitress. The food was really good of course, no fault at all. Some had sushi, I had oysters and my neice had fried calamari. These were starters and I rated them a good 7 out of 10. The main courses were absolutely delicious and I'm not being bias here at all... The ostrich was superb, but the star of the show was most definitely the seafood platter! (see pictures attached)! We made a mistake to order a seafood platter for six, as you'll see the size of this monster platter, but boy oh boy was it amazing! Everything on it was cooked to perfection, it was piping hot ( the way I like my food brought to the table) and oh so tasty. :-) The venue has a club attached to it too, which we never tried as they had a private function there that night. The outside area is lovely too, the view is stunning and right on the water too. It's a great place for a bite to eat, chill out in the outside area by the bar or dance the night away. Seems like a good crowd attend here too. :-) It's relaxed and not rushed, you can go to chill or just hang out with friends or just go and make a night of it. Go on, when in Cape Town you should head over to Shimmy Beach Club, take some mates with you and enjoy yourselves, you'll love it, I promise! Hang out, Dine out , chill out, eat and be merry!

What a hidden gem this place is. It sits at the end of the quay so rather take your car or Uber there. Bring your beach costume so you can enjoy the great food while you swim in the pool or bask on the man made beach. This is the perfect place to beach yourself after a flight to just take in the fact that you are in Cape Town. Choose form the beach area, outdoor patio, classy indoor or just hang out waiting for the next band to start the music on the main stage.
MacStar
Nice location with views across the water. Friendly crowd and staff. Plenty of cocktails and house tunes made sure we had a good night.
Caddie Hart
Yummy food. Service a little slow though. I’m all for immaculate bathrooms and Shimmy has it! Beautiful vibe and decor
Janine Westerweel
Unique "beach" venue situated at the docks. Lovely pool for those hot summer days. Comfy couches grouped on a man-made beach and great views out to sea. Food and service good (a bit on the pricey side).
Pete Duckitt
A spectacular but small venue for a big name DJ set. Soft sandy floors with a pool taking pride of place in front of the stage. R35 for a small can of beer.

Surprised my daughter for her birthday at Shimmy, our first time visiting the place, warm welcome from the entrance, even much more warmth as we walked to where we would like to be seated, excellent service from our waiter, stunning place, food and drinks excellent, even the manager came to make sure we doing fine. Will recommend Shimmy to others, all the best for the future Shimmy

We have heard wonderful stories about shimmy beach club and decided to visit while we are in Cape Town. We reserved a table to have a meal and were unfortunately very disappointed in the food which was quite bland. The drinks were okay but the bar didn't have the beer my brother drinks or the rum my husband drinks. We proceeded to the club post dinner who played music that we didn't quite like and the overall atmosphere of the club wasn't for us so we left. The place itself however is very pretty to look at and to take nice pics. Perhaps it's a better experience when there are events taking place but I doubt that improves the taste of the food.

We are currently in Cape Town on vacation and visiting Shimmy Beach Club was on our to-do list. When we arrived we were absolutely blown away. The front of house staff made us feel so welcome. The waiter was very friendly and was always attentive. The food arrived very quickly and was orgasmicly good. The music was entertaining and the overall atmosphere is relaxing, yet vibey. Their prices are reasonable. We will definitely be back.

Had a great time! Toilets were clean, staff were friendly to us, both in general area and VIP. Liquor prices weren’t bad (compared to some of the restaurants in Cape Town). Security is tight, which I have no problem with. Goldfish on stage were amazing and the sound system and lighting is on point. Having run a nightclub for decades, I know how difficult it is to get all of these aspects running well when the venue is operating. Well done to all staff and management!
Yougesh Mohun
Nice place but I didn’t like the toilets in vip where girls standing in the cue had to watch guys use the urinal in direct view of the Ladies, very poorly planned out
Anelisiwe Royi Njonga
The place is beautiful and the food is divine.I also love the fact you can enjoy this place with family,my only problem was that the seatings outside was first come first serve yet some people didn't have a place to sit but there were empty tables and seat written reserved.
Georgia Katz
Most disgusting experience ever. How dare your bouncers lay a hand on a women or to even threaten ever single person there. I will not come to your club ever again! nor I urge anyone to not support or go there disgusting. how can you hire absolute filth and scum. Such a top class club with absolutely terrible experience. not only was that the problem . there was no staff and 2 people at Bar with over 1000s of people there.
Michael C. Timberlake
It's got the best views, food is good, beers cold, but there is always room for improvement
Elizma Myburgh Walters
Very lekker vibe! With your feet in the sand and the see and swimming pool as you view, awesome place!

Great evening, winter special menu terrific value, even if it was a bit quiet. Good service from Millie and courtesy bus with Bruce our driver. Well worth a visit.
Paulett Zion Apollis
We always have a blast!! The atmosphere last night was different from our previous experiences. Shimmy's gives a different vibe every time we visit it. Pitty that there was NO DJ... but the food, wine and friends made the evening special

Great place to have a lkrrrr jol. Excellent ambience, service was tops, except for the toilet situation when crowded/packed. Keep gents and ladies please separate.

My girlfriend had her birthday party at Shimmy's Beach Club. We've never heard if it before. We were very impressed with the ambience of the place.<br/>We took a look at their winter menu. There isn't a wide variety but our waiter, Yegan, was not only knowledgeable of what was offered but recommended different dishes. We'd come back just because of his jovial, friendly nature and fantastic service. He recommended the Chicken Pot Pie, the Pork Belly burger, even the braised beef shin pizza.<br/>We chose the Pork Belly burger and the beef shin pizza. Great recommendations and so yum! The BBQ sauce on the Pork Belly was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the pizza. Lived the crust. We even had the Cape Town Sunset and the Kinky Afro cocktails. So good.<br/>We will come again. Thank you for a great experience.

Loved it!!! The vibe is amazing and so is the food. Friendly staff and waiters know what they doing. And the surroundings are stunning. Will bring going soon

Met friends here for a catchup sesh over sundowners and an early dinner. <br/><br/>We decided to share three dishes. Opting for the dim sum deluxe basket, the sushi platter for 2 (2 very small persons) and pizza. My fave was surprisingly the pizza. <br/><br/>I once read that in Japan it takes 10 years to become a sushi chef, with the first 2 years learning how to perfect the rice before the apprentice is even allowed to touch the fish. It’s evident the sushi chef skipped the first 2 years of his training at Shimmy’s. <br/><br/>However, the dim sum was surprisingly nice. I wasn’t a fan of the selection, but I can definitely appreciate that it was more than decent. The lamb char siu bao was my absolute fave! <br/><br/>The pizza was the winner though! The base is not normal pizza dough. It’s like they took a flakey roti and topped it with tomato sauce, cheese and toppings... it must be my heritage, but I gobbled that pizza up so fast! <br/><br/>This place is a bit over the top and in a very weird location. The food is overpriced for what’s on offer and service is a bit aloof at times. I’m glad I ticked this one off the list, but I probably won’t be a repeat customer. <br/>

Always a jol when going to Shimmy.<br/>I have never had a bad food experience here yet.<br/><br/>The new summer seasoned menu's every Friday are such a hit. They offer potluck style dining and we could even take home all the leftover food. The theme of the menu changes every Friday so it keeps things interesting.
Amer
went there for dinner and drinks with friends . this was my first trip to Capetown and I have to say that I was impressed at Shimmy . a one of a kind location straight in the beach , several bars located across the venue with the main dining restaurant is inside . outside seating was amazing but it was but chili and couldn't sit there . cool live music with Sax player , very elegant ambience and good food . had Mussels and pizzas with couple drinks . mussels were amazing and pizza was good although it was bit dry and need more cheese . their service was top notch and attentive to the level needed , no more or less . tried sushi and we're below average !

Valentine’s Day dinner, the set menu was amazing, food was fresh and service was good. Thank you shimmy fit a great dinner. My first time here but I’ll surely be coming again when I’m in Cape Town

I've visited shimmy a few times but for the first time over the weekend I ate from the "beach" menu. I had a simple Cajun chicken salad but it was absolutely delicious. It included all my favorite salad ingredients and it didn't take very long to make it all. The only downfall was that there was too little meat for the amount of veggies in the salad, if it weren't for that it would have been a 5/5 from me. To drink I had a strawberry daiquiri which was surprisingly very strong because normally daiquiris are weak cocktails.

Okay lets start with the positive <br/><br/>Shimmy is always a great place to go and have drinks chilling with amazing music they never disappoints in that. We had the sushi special for 6 thats was on R425 special that cost actually R800. For that price we only received 36 pieces of sushi. Which I find ridiculous cause I can get more sushi by Redies then at shimmy and Redies are better. Our 1st order of margarita they were out of straws. So we had to wait till they got in. Because it was impossible to drink it like that cause all i taste was tequila and syrup. After my friends and I had the sushi we were still peckish so we ask for the waiter to bring us the menu. He totally ignored us for about 30min. We had to ask for the menu again but with a different waiter. When we received our menu we decided to take the chicken strip. We also ordered a bottle of wine. While we waited for our chicken strips we were sipping on our wine the ice started to melt. We ask for more ice but they were out of stock. After wine was finished the waiter brought us a new bucket with ice but our wine was finished by then. We ordered another bottle. After a few min we ask the waiter were our chicken strips are and he totally forgot to place our order. We had to wait longer then an hour for freaken chicken strips. When we got it the sauce cup was chipped and had a crack. Worse service ever. <br/><br/>Shimmy should close they restaurant and just focus on house music and serving alcohol.

Pickpockets!<br/><br/>We went twice to Shimmy - 1st of January for Goldfish and 5th of January for Black Coffee. (Second time only as a birthday party wish of a friend) On both occasions girls got their iPhones stolen out of their purses! Staff and management didn't care about it at all. <br/>While I can understand that the first time a phone got stolen - you would call it a coincidence and bad things can happen anywhere. But a second time - same process - same reaction / no reaction from staff - you could call it a system....<br/><br/>Don't bother wasting your nights there.
Dani Gama
What a disappointment. <br/>The food was prepared long before it was served. Everything tasted stale, very unimpressed. <br/>For the price that was paid we were shocked. <br/>This buffet was worse than what you would expect of a R150, let alone R900. <br/>Couldn't be less Christmassy even if you tried. <br/>The only positive was the waiter who was very friendly.<br/>I don't recommend coming here..
Joe Gama
Great venue, but terrible food on Christmas Day Lunch. Every dish in the buffet was dry and unimaginative.<br/>Certainly nothing special for Christmas Lunch.<br/>No vegetarian dishes available although we had booked and mentioned that we had a vegetarian.<br/>Our waiter Knowledge however, was friendly and professional.
Carin Coerecius
For my first time visit I was dissapointed. Myself and friends visited shimmy beach club for there birthday. We ordered our drinks etc. The day was going and we wanted another round our wait or ignored us upon every request we wanted him to serve us he would first see too others and treated our table as an after thought. We ordered our food too. We asked the bill and we waited close to ten minutes for it till we eventually went ourselves to the bar to settle the bill we then saw that we were double charged for drinks we were a group of laidies and guys and us as laidies had like one cider when we were billed for two each we addressed it with the waiter and he made us feel as if we were lying. We only paid for what we consumed and nothing more. We head to the dance floor which was so uncomfortable and small you tried dancing and every second someone is bumping into you

Vibe: cool and trendy <br/>Food: good, I wasn't feeling very adventurous tonight, so I just went with an old faithful mushroom risotto. The only thing I didn't like was the Marscapone dollop on the top - I wasn't a fan of the very strong, sour flavour. I prefer the nuttiness of Parmesan which I asked and came at an extra charge. <br/>Pricing: a tad on the pricey side <br/>Service: a bit on the slow side<br/>Other: parking is a bit of a mission <br/>Overall: go for the vibe, view and party not really the food. <br/>
Maz
Very hip and happening spot! The venue is very versatile making it almost perfect to host almost all kinds of events from launches, parties, year end functions etc.<br/>Staff are extremely professional and friendly and the overall establishment is very well maintained and offers beautiful views of the ocean.<br/>I love that they are Halaal friendly, the manager on duty confirmed that all the meats and poultry are sourced from a halaal butcher.<br/>Their pizzas are good but not the best I ever tasted, their lamb burgers were tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed their sushi.
Tshego Fontash Marumo
I would be lying if I say I will not visit Shimmy again...<br/>They have amazing views and a really chilled, and relaxed ambiance. It is really a beautifully decorated space and gives one a sense of calm... If there is anything that this establishment can get an A+ on is its location and décor.<br/>There service is okay nothing to write home about and I have been here more than 4 times and I never really got a stellar service (50%). On Saturday the 26th of August, I however got the best service from the hostess, it is unfortunate that I did not get her name but she really was top class...such attention to detail. We had a seafood platter, the portion was okay and the taste was good, nothing wow for R850. We created a meaty platter with rump, lamb and chicken - the rump, even though we requested it to be medium done it was overcooked, literally like chewing gum.. the lamp was okay and the chicken was good. I honestly think the mains on the menu are not winning. I have had you pizza and I love the thin base, it is tasty and awesome. I also think your sushi is relatively good. I will be doing more drinks at this place and their Bloemendal wines are good.
Zimkita Sidumo
This is where I had my first Ice Tropez back in December 2012 😄. Definitely has a suave and oh so cool vibe whether you're dining or partying 🥂
Thendo Mathobo
I absolutely love their beach setting. The view to the ocean is very beautiful. Their cocktails are to die for, I really had an amazing time there. I will definitely go back when i visit Cape Town again.
Bame Modungwa
Shimmy has the best beach setting which makes for a perfect afternoon out. Visited in both summer and winter, and unfortunately the winter vibe is a bit of a let down. Shared the sushi platter with a group, it was delicious but a bit on the pricy side. Definitely recommend for summer, especially when they host day events.
I Love Foodies
For me, Shimmy Beach Club has always been the spot where all the cool people go. I love my pajamas so generally I’m not part of that crowd, but, alas, sometimes it’s good to actually get out and about. Especially if it’s to a place as epicly cool. Ok, granted, I didn’t visit them for one of their oh-so-amazing parties. Instead, I went to go try their new winter menu. Which is totally worth getting out of your pajamas for, by the way, even in the Cape Town winter (whenever it decides to really hit us).
Chantelle Swart
Beatiful view and people. Vibey and great atmosphere . The best sushi, pizza and desserts in capetown I've tried by far. Great wine selection too.
Pearl Mambana
Had my birthday dinner at Shimmy Beach. Everything was lovely😍<br/>Our waiter,Trevor, was the best!👌🏾<br/>I'll definitely go back to Shimmy Beach soon💃🏾
Kudzai Sachikonye
Had the champagne battered hake. It was delicious and fresh. The menu though was quite limited to a few options. I also had a taste of the chicken pizza as well as the potato gnocchi and the overall quality and flavour of food was very good.
Rayne Alexander
Nice overall but I expected better from such a high end establishment. Very long waiting period for meals and snacks. Probably wouldn't recommend.
Samantha Taylor
I love going to Shimmy Beach Club, always a great experience! The staff are lovely and helpful, the management team is on top form and the food is delicious! I recommend the sushi and pizzas! Can't wait to taste their new Winter Menu soon
Ash Robyn
Best party ever!! Think I spent 3 nights in a row here...Definitely gonna recommend giving this gem a visit! I don't remember much to review food-wise but I'm pretty certain I had an over priced Margarita pizza...
Mofieleli Sekatle
We arrived on my birthday for some drinks. No one bothered to seat us. Just pointed us in the general direction of where to go, we had to flag a waitress after waiting with no service or menus. There were no seats (we weren't too mad as we hadn't made a reservation) when a table became open. We were informed by waitress that we can't order cocktails from that area as they were preparing for a function. Left that moment and enjoyed my evening at Grand Cafe&Beach. All on a day when you weren't full.
Mitch Benson
Incredibly rude staff; we arrived on a quiet Saturday to meet friends eating, I walked up the stairs to greet a friend who was walking towards me, and a bouncer grabbed my arm and twisted it painfully - literally because I walked up the stairs. He kept saying I didn't have a wrist-band - yes, I agreed; he squeezed my arm harder until my friend then walked down the stairs with me. <br/><br/>Next stop, the bar, where a rude waiter poured doubles when we clearly ordered two 'gin and tonics' - we checked the bill and queried him. He shouted back "I asked you twice if they were doubles...". Um, nope, he didn't. I assume this is a tactic for higher bills. He slammed the drinks back behind the counter, poured new ones and then rudely slammed the bill down. <br/><br/>My friend had a cap on, so a man walked up and aggressively pulled it off and told him to remove it or put it on backwards. Surely you can just ask politely? This is not an MMA cage fight where every encounter has to be angry and confrontational. <br/><br/>Literally this place has the most negative and aggressive energy I've ever experienced in CT.  Something is wrong if all the staff are so rude to paying patrons. <br/><br/>Also verpriced and dingy. The sushi had three flies buzzing on it so can't comment on food.
Eugene Strydom
So my son visited the Shimmy Beach Club from Sydney Australia last night, he walked up to one of the bouncers to notify him of glass on the dance floor, and as a reward he got a smack - I will love to get some feedback from you - yes thanks to the manager who gave him a drink for solace. - its pathetic - calling the police and making a complaint would have done the thing
Devin Sage
I really loved the vibe here and where it is situated. I thought that the cocktails were very overpriced. Service wasn't as good as I had expected, it took ages to get anything to the table. Most of what we ordered had good flavour but one of the starters was a bit on the burnt side. It is a very large restaurant, so in a way you do expect the service to be slow. I don't recommend sitting outside near the pool in the day because there are so many children running up and down but if you don't mind that then it's cool.
Christine Du Toit
Beautiful setting and very good food. The cape salmon linefish was good but the winner was the crusted salmon. The Baked Alaska should be tried. <br/>And of course with such a setting, a cocktail!
Kashma
This place is all about the vibe, view and setting. The food is good but not great. Have to say the shimmy sherbet cocktail was refreshing and delish. We enjoyed the sushi. The dim sums were not great. Definitely worth visiting whilst in CT for the vibe and ambiance.
Cay Jay
Really beautiful view and set up, I really enjoyed my time here but it seems like a bit empty and non vibey. I expected to be busy and it would be a great place to socialize and meet people but it wasn't the case. Good cocktails and good music
Guy Blackhurst
Very nice venue. Amazing views of the harbour. You're likely to see dolphins if you keep an eye out. I had dim sum which was not the best but definitely not bad. The prices are rather high for the quality of food. I would not return for the restaurant but I will definitely be having sun downers when summer really sets in.
Nic Hern
Wonderful venue, wonderful sushi and amazing cocktails. The venue itself is reason enough to visit Shimmy, and if you are not in the mood for a meal they host various parties/events which are really enjoyable! Otherwise their food is very tasty and the have a huge range of cocktails which, while a bit on the pricey side, are extremely enjoyable on hot Summers day🍹
The Authentic Girl
particularly enjoyed the location and classy ambience of Shimmy Beach Club. It is the ideal venue for a romantic dinner with beach views, a ladies night out or an Ibiza-style party. Upon my arrival, the friendly staffs made me feel like family, they are welcoming and very attentive while we were dining.<br/><br/>The Pork Belly was my firm favourite. The only words I can use to describe it are, “melt in your mouth” and “the perfectly executed dish.” The apple puree added the sweet component to the dish while the beetroot and potato cubes helped to balance the flavours. The crackling gives it the crispy element to the soft and tender pork belly. You have to try it. The tuna steak was downright delicious! <br/><br/>Read more on my blog, The Authentic Girl.

beauty location on sunny days. lovely and friendly service. tasty food.<br/>deliciously fresh tasting sushi. wonderful seafood and good staples like burgers and fish and chips - which has a jazzed up twist.
Natalie21j
I've been to this restaurant before and loved it but this time round I was a bit disappointed. The starters were great and the dessert was yum but the mains ( and there were four of us) all had overly salted mains. When we raised this with our waiter he went into discuss with the chef and came back and advised maybe it's the marinade that we feel is too salty. Not sure I'll be returning a third time for food.
Crystal Espin
Such a great summer spot for cocktails and drinks! If you're on a budget, then take a seat in the bar/lounge area and order some nibbles and drinks. I've eaten at the restaurant before as well and while the food is excellent it can be very pricey. You definitely pay for the view and location at this spot but on a hot summer day in Cape Town it's so wort it!
Kyle Dunn
We went to Shimmy for a birthday dinner.<br/>The service was excellent. The waiter was ready to explain everything on the menu, to detail and precision. <br/>I had the burger, which was stuffed with such goodness. Definitely gourmet and not for the faint hearted! The fries prepared perfect, with a hint of Cajun spice.<br/>After dinner, I had coffee and opted for their cupcakes. A trio of different magical flavours.<br/>Overall, excellent!
Barbara Ann Hall
If you're looking for trendy upmarket yuppie fare you've come to the right place. However timing is everything so keep this in mind or you'll be sitting alone. Fabulous beach venue so keep this one for hot summer days!! Friendly staff, extensive bar and great menu.
Jana Williams
Have been there last time about a year ago. It was for lunch and was quite, as it was a rainy winter day. There was only 3 tables and waiters were snoozing a bit. Lovely place though and lovely vibe. Food was fine too.
Azele Anne Naicker
Shimmy beach club is beautifully situated, with breathtaking views. The minimalist decor and finishes let the view speak for itself. The service and food were really great and we were taken care of timeously even though I attended a birthday party with a table of +20 guests. I had the seared tuna steak which was exceptional. A really good experience that was well worth the price.
Talia Lee Cohen
The menu is written to tantalise the tongues and it does just that. The dishes look as marvellous. But once biting into the dishes, the flavours are a bit jumbled and overstated. The sushi isn't worth much note but perhaps try the cocktails with pizzas rather...<br/><br/>The price tags of the food rather depict the venue itself - upcoming professionals buzzing around the magnificent pool with their elaborate cocktails. For some, it's a great vibe and I will concede to it being a gorgeous setting for private functions or even meetings. It is excellent to see that they cater for children a bit more now.
Amy Mcwilliams
I came in very late to the shimmy craze. Even in winter it was a nice spot to be. Service was excellent, the food came quickly and the atmosphere put me at ease. I was with a overseas work colleague that enjoyed the experience and I'm sure she'd recommend it to other travellers.
Michelle Matzdorff
I won't even waste too much of my time writing this review, or waste your time by making you read a long one. <br/><br/>Shimmy's piña coladas and sushi are incredible, but everything else is a waste of time and money. <br/><br/>Their salmon starter was dry and had less flavour than saw dust. I paid R250 for a lamb shank pot pie where the supposed "puff pastry" was so hard I couldn't cut through it with a steak knife. Then, as if the first two courses weren't bad enough, their Nutella pizza (which is more of a focaccia) was so dry it may as well have been cardboard. <br/><br/>I definitely will NOT be returning to Shimmy.
Iman Bawa
The service and food has progressively worsened as time has passed. The food is quite overpriced and not good. The sushi is average and also not worth the price tag. The vibe for supper isn't bad but I feel that weekday lunch is quite dead
Waseem Dawood
went for a friends birthday the food was extremely bad, i had one bite of the burger and felt sick. all my friends complained about the food being bad, my girlfriends salmon was terrible it was overcooked best way to describe it was it tastes like medicine. furthermore just go to the parties and eat before.
Juanita Rene Stears
I've been here for a few parties, and it was amazing, drinks, expensive! entrance a bit much too, but then it also helps to keep out the crazy people! :-) Go to place if money ain't no problem, and dancing is needed! Dress up and enjoy!
Mfundo Zungu
Normally when I go to Shimmy Beach it's to listen to Goldfish and to sip on overpriced alcohol so I was pretty excited when a friend invited us to dine there for his birthday.<br/><br/>The laid back and relaxed ambiance set by the chilled music and emptiness of the venue were the most notable things for me as this was really contrary to what I had expected. <br/><br/>I had the Cape Malay Curry which I must admit was probably one the better curries I've had in a long time. For dessert I had their chocolate fondant with naartjie ice cream. This for me was the highlight of the night, for the first time time in a long time I actually enjoyed a dessert at a restaurant and it left me craving for more.<br/><br/>All in all, a fantastic dining experience, menu was good, food was great and the service was the best.<br/><br/>NB. Not the best place to go as a student as the food is quite pricey and the drinks are pricier. Rather go when you're parents are in town or better yet, if your blesser offers to fully enjoy the Shimmy Beach dining experience.

Hurry up and wait.... We went to the one area and nobody came to wait on us... The next area we had some 5 waiters passed us before i called one for service... And then the waiting began!!! Definitely here for the setting and not the service!!!

Had a wonderful, intimate luncheon at Shimmy yesterday. Tasted 12 dishes from the starter, main and dessert menu and 10 of the 12 were insanely delicious! Will be back soon, and highly recommend the crayfish ravioli on starters, pork belly or venison for mains, and the peanut brittle with vanilla caramel ice cream for dessert! They have also added some gourmet pizzas to the menu which I'll be sure to try soon. #ShimmyWinterMenu

Best Pina Colada, I promise. I ordered two and they they're really consistent with their quality. The atmosphere is awesome and relaxed. The pulled pork pizza is worth a try :)

We went for dinner. Impressive location and looks fabulous when you walk in. The service was good - attentive and friendly. However, the menu was pretty average for a top end dinner place. I struggled to find something that grabbed me for dinner that you couldn't get in a local cafe at half the price. When the food came, it was pretty good, however.<br/><br/>Overall, nice experience but more casual dining than the location & decor would suggest

Shimmy Beach Club is situated in one of Cape Town's prime locations. It is perfect for a Summer afternoon visit with friends, where you can relax and lounge around the pools. <br/><br/>I love visiting the Restuarant for a drink and some sushi. Their menu is very expensive, so I don't suggest visiting if you are on a tight budget. The service is always great and the waiters are friendly and helpful. I have tried a few of their meals, with the garlic mushroom quinoa vegetarian burger being my least favorite. Other meals that I have thoroughly enjoyed are the chicken tikka pizza, chicken curry and lamb curry ( which they do not seem to have on the menu anymore)<br/><br/>Overall, Shimmy has a lovely atmosphere with great food and drinks.

I went to shimmy beach on a Monday night expecting typical nightclub food .... Not at all what I got! The restaurant was very quiet but the food was outstanding ! The presentation , flavors and size of helpings were superb! We ordered a table salad which was mouth watering , salmon steaks that were too delicious and a bunch of desserts that the most dedicated dieter wouldn't be able to resist! All in all a very surprising and most delicious meal in a beautiful setting !

Really funky vibe. Food is pretty rad, the place to be, awesome summer vibe with good looking people. Not the place you really venture too for winter, just my opinion.
Andrea Lauren Kraak
Tried the snack platter and a whole lot of cocktails. Oh how i love to just chill on the sun beds overlooking the pool and the ocean ! Added plus is you can eat too. Will come back again and again. Cant wait for next summer

Beautiful setting at the Waterfront, accompanied by excellent service and delicious food. Very quiet as it was a Monday evening on a public holiday, so not much atmosphere.

There are always events happening, people frequenting, tourists and locals, heels and bikinis! Stunning ocean views as you sit on the water and the quality of sushi is amazing, I also really enjoyed eating their seafood! Definitely go for that over salads or pizza as the fish is their specialty!

We had sundowner drinks at this amazing beach club. It was so much more than I expected. It is located right in the Harbour and on the water with a really classy restaurant, a beach with sand and a swimming pool that looks like it is elevated (it has glass walls) and a deck with chairs and loungers . We started with drinks and just enjoyed the great views and vibe and then we got peckish so we ordered some snacks - jalapeño poppers, cheese spring rolls and samoosas- all tasted really great. Service was reasonably good considering how many people there are. I love the venue and the vibe and will definitely be back for a proper dinner.

I guess Shimmy Beach is more for the vibe and music rather than the food. But we had a really nice seafood platter...crumbed prawns, crumbed calamari, grilled prawns, mussels, fish cakes...really nice flavours with a nice selection of sauces...my favourite being the chili, of course ;-)

On a bustling Friday night my family and I decided to eat at this vibrant restaurant. We had been seated for a while before getting our menus and meeting our waiter, which was ok because of the vibrant music. For starters I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese roulade, with herb cream cheese, onion marmalade and snow pea shoots and Oysters as well. The onion marmalade was the most exciting part of the dish. For main course I had the garlic mushroom quinoa "burger" with goat cheese, toasted walnut, aubergine caviar, pickled beetroot and side salad. Oreo Panna Cotta, caramel gel & creams, passion fruit jewels, chocolate coated coffee beans, was the final order to curb my sweet tooth. The evening was congenial for myself and brother not so much to the old timers with us.

What a lovely place .. We went there to celebrate a special one's birthday. The wine list is lovely. Great food ,well priced, spot on service. Would love to be back here.

You go to Shimmy for the setting, not the food. Pizzas are expensive and average. When you eat outside, your food also arrives lukewarm because of the wind.<br/>What's also great at Shimmy is the baby-sitter corner with (nice) staff attendance. The view, the sand and an expensive wine and you eventually have a good experience.<br/>Unfortunately no craft beers.

I was a bit disappointed to be honest... the food was super expensive and not really worth the price tag and even though it's great for a lazy afternoon chilling by the pool I'd much rather fire up the pizza oven and swim at home or be on a winefarm with an amazing view than go to dig out this place inbetween the unappetising fish smells... even the sushi was dry and not nice to digest and the staff were not too helpful and service is slow. I don't think I will be back too soon.

Great venue. Food was excellent. I had Sushi. Really good. We were a party of 16 so I was expecting slow service, but was pleasantly surprised. Kudos to the staff.

Tried the grilled calamari steak. I didn't like it much, mostly the texture, probably because I'm not used to it prepared that way. I didn't enjoy the seared tuna espetada either, thought it was quite flavorless. The sole wasn't bad though. Honestly I didn't like the menu, not the food nor desserts. Overall the venue is beautiful, would come back for drinks or a party, probably not for dinner.

Perfect for Sunday lunch. Great atmosphere with stunning views! The pizzas are definitely a safe, delicious option. I tried out the quinoa burger, but wasn't very happy with it. The chocolate mousse with orange ice - cream was one of the best desserts I've had.

I've been here a few times for lunches/dinners and events. It's a really great venue because of the different seating areas, pools and view. My only problem on most of my visits has been the extremely slow service on the decks.<br/><br/>On my most recent visit this past weekend, I had the goats cheese pizza which is probably one of the best pizzas around. Thin, crispy and flavours that go so well together. Once again, the service was really slow and we often had to hunt down our waiter. The table also often went uncleared for an hour at a time which is a problem when the glasses and food dishes start to pile up. As a vegetarian my options are generally limited but I have tried their sushi which was good and the dim sum which is exceptional. <br/><br/>Overall, I enjoy this spot more for drinks and the music than the food but the pizza really is as good as they say.

I don't even know where to begin my review of Shimmy Beach Club. Upon my recent January visit to CPT, Shimmy's was the restaurant I decided to take my significant other to for his Birthday dinner. I was slightly surprised to see the nightclub vibe when I entered but as the waitron took us to out table I was pleased to see that it was tucked away from the loud music. Instead we could hear it but at just the right volume.<br/><br/>The ambiance was AMAZING and so too was the food. I had the bacon wrapped burger and it was unbelievably good.
Pia
We have been there on a Goldfish concert and it was absolutely fantastic. The view is great, the beer and cider was nice and cold and the music so much fun! What a night out :)

Arrived to a dirty, greasy table. Asked our waitress to tidy up our table, after 30 minutes our table got "wiped down" with a paper towel, I could still feel the grease beneath my elbows. <br/>Our waitress took an hour interval to serve us, whether it were for a drink or our food order.<br/>When our food arrived, my order was incorrect. I received grilled chicken skewers instead of a grilled chicken wrap. <br/>We then waited for knives and forks; once our food had arrived: for almost 20 minutes. By the time we ate our food, it was cold and stale. The sweet potato chips were very delicious but by the time they were eaten and enjoyed, they were cold. <br/>The sea food basket, which my friend ordered was actually disgusting. When I got asked to taste, he said " make sure you spit it out". The prawn popcorn tasted of pure polystyrene and oil. The calamari was plastic and rubbery. He then ironically "caught" a tummy bug, which lasted 2 days. Our plates sat after our meal for over 10 minutes, which in itself is unacceptable. The manager from there onwards was unavailable to speak to us. I can simply say I will never ever recommend nor visit Shimmy for lunch again.

Overall not a bad restaurant to eat at. The food is good but they are a bit slow with the service. Also has a good vibe for a party after dinner.
Dhrupal Amin
A restaurant with an amazing vibe and view. I had a business lunch here with my Spanish guests and the casual but smart environment went down well. The food was fresh and good. This restaurant is certainly more about the vibe and view than the food. Worth a visit
Baptistmarcus
Ordered the steak, lamb chops and line fish. Fine dining food well worth it for the price. The views are magnificent. Table Mountain in the background and the Atlantic in the foreground.

The scenery is absolutely exquisite! Food is too - notch . But if you want to enjoy your time here then do make reservations rather just rocking up abruptly. If not, you'll wait for eons to be seated ( like we did). Overlooking the beach I'd everything though
Pieter Roelof Van Wyk
Looking past the tin foil plated Bentley and Jeep at the door and non matching cutlery and crockery the food was good and service great. Had a great Christmas buffet where the Sushi stood out as the favourite.
Wayne Manuel
Definitely The place to be especcially during the festive season. You can enjoy a very relaxing elegant dinner and have an awesome party outside, all in one place. This is definitely my favourite place to be
Jemal
An unforgettable setting, stunning sunset, great food and drinks (cocktails are delish, a must have) - makes Shimmy's the place to be in summer!!! Service was great, a big thank you to Eric our waiter who looked after us - top class service.
Nthabiseng Chaane
What a wonderful place to let a Saturday afternoon and evening go past. Had the seared tuna "espatada" which. With the sand and the ocean so close there is little that can go wrong here!!

I was invited for lunch by a client for their year end function. I was very impressed by the interior & decor. Service was good. I was torn between the lamb cutlets & salmon for main but settled on the lamb. The lamb was succulent & had amazing flavour (although I had food envy when I saw the salmon dish as well as the cob). My 1st choice of dessert was not available & I settled for the Oreo panna cotta. Although delicious, it was huge & can easily serve 2 people. Overall a very nice experience although the weather was terrible on Friday.
Nadia Van M
Food is very good, but it comes at a price. Like all good things do. Extensive menu, even for the fussy eater. Service is on par. Awesome for summer vibes
Glen Hunt
Great place for a staff party. Held 1000 people no stress with a great vibe. Only trouble is parking but worth going back again and again. Awesome view of Table Bay.
Ashleigh Fynn
Summer is well on its way, which means it's time to escape your desk and opt for a lounger or a fluffy towel on the beach. As for me I have been eating my way through Cape Town- I know my life is tough but really if you think about it I do this for you. . Shimmy has just launched its 2015 summer menu, so you will find me sitting poolside with a cocktail in one hand and their Moodie Burger Bomb in the other! Go on and Shimmy your way down for some summer deliciousness.
Liezl Van Heerden
Beautiful place! And i can imagine what awesome parties are thrown here!! Would definitely want to come back for one of those buuut, the food is ok... It's not all that you pay for.. Not anthing special. I had the prawn and chorizo risotto which was nice comforting food in the cold weather but for the price you pay it's just alright. Boyfriend had the burger which was also just ok, looked very nice though. Cocktails were nice! I had the pina colada and tasted the mojito which were both nice.. The ice cream for dessert lacked flavour :( it is a lovely place to spend the afternoon and we saw dolphins and seals play around in the water which was great to see. I would rather come here for the party than the food. Sushi was very good though!

Shimmy has a lot to offer in terms of food, relaxation, and partying of course. It's somewhere I find myself often visiting.<br/><br/>The food is great, I enjoy their chicken or lamb pizza, prawn pasta and sushi. The dining area is smart and sophisticated. <br/><br/>The outdoor/couch area is perfect for chilling and having cocktails. The sun beds also offer great tanning sessions as well as awesome views. <br/><br/>The night life at shimmy is amazing been to many events which is include international artists as well as local, all of which were great.
Lee Lebotsa
Shimmy is the place to be when you're looking for a fun, chilled place to hangout at. <br/>I go there for the view and the cocktails but the food is divine and the burgers are on another level.<br/><br/>It's such a jam there. The general ambience of the place is perfect for summer. I would definitely go there every weekend if I could.
Ricardo Teixeira
Best place to go in the waterfront area for cocktails and sundowners.. <br/>Food is really really good.<br/>Service not as good though, waiters have a lot of problems managing tables when it's busy and that becomes a problem for us as we have to wait so long just too receive drinks, where their has been a times where the food arrives before the drinks..<br/>Other than that it's an excellent venue for private functions and business meetings.<br/>Their private boardroom for hire to companies is very professional and very satisfactory.

Shimmy Beach Club is my go to place for a girls night out. The tone the atmosphere the music the drinks the food all compliment each other. <br/><br/>The seafood platter is amazing a bit pricey for me but worth it. If your budget is tight then go for the tikka pizza its like a little piece of heaven at a good price.

If you are looking for a more upmarket location for some good food, a few drinks and a super sea view - Shimmy is the perfect spot. It attracts a slightly older crowd and accommodates for children as well. It is right on the ocean and a lovely spot to chill and soak up the Cape Town sun. I would recommend it for a nice summers day extended lunch spot and if you are looking for more of a drinks and dancing atmosphere then stick around as the sun goes down.<br/><br/>It hosts fantastic events, so if something is on, I highly recommend it.

The Long Wait@Shimmy<br/>Disastrous lunch at Shimmy Beach Club last Sunday, week – have delayed this review because I left my contact details with the front desk on the promise that “Management would contact me “. It’s now a fortnight after the fiasco, so I am assuming that this is not going to happen.<br/>Where does one start – starters I guess! Mixed sushi and dim sum platter for six, which took 1 hour 30 minutes to arrive, despite frequent requests, re- assurances and avoidance by the waiter and the ‘ Floor Manager ‘. When it did finally materialize it was apparent that the dim sum had been ready for a good 85 minutes of the 90 that we had been waiting. That was sent back as inedible and had to be redone. No explanation or apology ventured by ‘Management’, who continued to avoid our table with mixed success.<br/>Mains arrived reasonable promptly, post the devastation that was the first course - the only problem being that they arrived as a relay. The pizza eaters had finished their meal by the time the others in the party received their mains. Hardly conducive to a relaxed family lunch and compounded by the fact that the prawn / noodle salad was swimming in oil and pretty much inedible. The other delayed main of Mussels with accompanying “sweet potato crisps “, arrived with three unidentifiable pieces of charred matter that I think were the designated ‘crisps ‘.<br/>After further complaint both of these items were removed from the final bill.<br/>In fairness, we were offered complimentary desserts to ‘compensate’ for the misery that was lunch but we declined not wanting to prolong the agony any further.<br/>Apart from the substandard food, ambitious pricing and inordinate delay in providing the order, my biggest issue was the unwillingness of the ‘Management’ to take ownership of the problems and to provide feedback and a solution or intervention (other than an offer of free deserts). This coupled with their attempts to avoid all contact with the table whilst the farce was underway, made for a most unpleasant afternoon.<br/>Great venue, stunning view and décor. Worth a visit for a drink but avoid the food (and make sure you have plenty of time to kill ).
Jess
Such a fun evening in a really beautiful spot. Decor, atmosphere and music were great. Interesting menu with quite a variety to choose from. Our party had seafood, dim sum, pizza and steak and all went down well. Food wasn't anything amazingly special and was probably a little over priced. Maybe more of a spot for drinks or a sushi lunch rather than a long dinner. We felt well looked after by the staff and had an enjoyable evening overall. Definitely worth a visit 😊🍴🍷

This evening was my first time having dinner and drinks at Shimmys. The bar cocktails menu is absolutely appalling and I must say a menu says a lot about a restaurant (in my opinion) the selection of cocktails was very minimal compared to the menu online. When we finally sat down for dinner we waited about 10mins for a waiter. We ordered starters which was cold when it arrived (which we told to the waiter), however I enjoyed the sushi it's fresh and the portions are quite big. We also had the panocotta dessert which was sour ( very disappointing) as this was my first time trying this dessert and I wasn't sure what it should taste like. The description on the menu sounds amazing but the presentation is poor (an anti climax). The service is extremely slow. I had high expectations but was dissappointed. I would definitely not return. Instead of focusing on decor ect how about focusing on the important factors of a restaurant ( good quality food and service).
Candice Van Vuuren
Although the food was really good, the service is much to be desired. On the other hand the vibe is really something else and the entire atmosphere is very appealing! Awesome experience!
Claudia
My first visit to Shimmy Beach Club, only had a few starters to share between the three of us, but well prepared and presented. The lemon & artichoke risotto was to die for! Chessboard Calamari had an overwhelming flower taste, which I loved but was a bit much for the rest of our table. Dim sum YUM! <br/>Wine & Sparkling wines are very pricy, and completely out of range for South African wines, but a good experience non the less.
Princess Bubblegum
We had an amazing lunch at shimmy beach club. We ordered a bunch of starters and dim sum to share and took in the beautiful view. We had the grapefruit sorbet and bubbly cocktail which was out of thus world! We will definitely visit again on our next trip to cape town

Shimmy Beach Club has got the views and decor spot on. The upmarket vibe has hints of clubs in the Med or Mid East. Location is quite surprising but once you're inside it's a different world. Sushi and the seafood pizza are a must try. Drinks a bit pricey but it caters to a more mature clientele. The usual night scene isn't packed as clubs in town but when they do have events it's a must go.
Tiyaarah Cloete
I've been to shimmy a few times, mostly because people have asked me to join them but I doubt I'll go for the food again anytime soon. Pathetic

This place is really stunning but prepare yourself for an insane bill! Great for summer and to treat someone special. Food is magnificent, fresh and large portions. Really nice venue with great staff!

Definitely the place to be on a Sunday afternoon during summer! They have amazing cocktails and their pizzas are delish! You'll feel like you're on the beach in a foreign land somewhere and there's even a pool right in the middle that you can cool off in from the hot summer sun.
