I love pizza. Like A LOT, so much so that it's a interest on my CV. I have had pizza from a lot of different places, takeaway, sit down restaurants, expensive pizza, cheap pizza, pizza of all different shapes and sizes. BUT this place has the best pizza I have ever had hands down.
The crust is super thin, firm, and crunchy. The pizza is loaded with the most flavourful toppings.
Then on top of the best pizza, their ribs are spectacular, the atmosphere is great. Just my favourite place to hang out.
Service was fast, got our drinks within 2 minutes of ordering, and the food never took longer than 20 - 30 min to arrive. Waiters are friendly and make great recommendations.
An interesting menu with entertaining dish names. We were in the mood for a pizza and had to try out the Toad Surprise. The pizza was good, but contained a few wood shavings, hope they clean their ovens soon. Service was efficient and friendly.
I love the vibe here, indoor and outdoor bar, great fire place, lovely food, service could improve and a special every now and again would be awesome. Ā An awesome place to spend a saturday afternoon with friends and fam.
We've been here many times and overall the experience is good. Food has always been good although service is often below par. Selection of beer on tap is adequate. Only major disappointment is the desert menu. You can have anything you like as long as it's ice cream. š Come on Toad make an effort.
I love that place. The food is always excellent, the good time guarantee, service is normally quite good and the prices are perfect. For a quick glass or a long afternoon The Toad on the Road is for me one of the best option.
Best eisbein I have ever tasted in my life! Side vegetables are fresh and the creamed spinach is amazing! Our waitress was fantastic too! Great atmosphere, great food! Will defiantly be back!
I come here pretty often. Recently, I've seen the standards drop though. Unless its the Springboks or the Stormers, you will not have sound (even the Proteas get the radio). Pizza still pretty good, and the beers are cold. Starting to fray around the edges and the place definitely needs a good scrub-down..
The Toad on the Road has a great atmosphere especially during prime rugby matches. The pizza's are pretty good. This is a great place to watch sport with a large outdoor area to enjoy the fresh air.

Nice atmosphere during the day with a very nice outside section for almost any weather. Ā They really have gone far beyond the ordinary on the layout of the pub as come rain or sunshine, there will be a place to enjoy your drinks and meal. Ā Ā

I'm a fan of all 3 of the Toads. This one is especially a noted improvement to the old Westlake Arms. It Offers an enjoyable experience in the outdoor, vibey area and is Always buzzing with people of all ages. Its the perfect spot to have a bite to eat or meet friends for a few drinks or to watch whatever sport is on. The food is good, with a menu offering a slightly more enticing take on a typical Cape Town pub menu. The pizzas are particularly good, offering a variety of choice for toppings. This past visit, the service was rather "okay", but to be fair it was rather busy.

A great place for drinks and sport. Good service and a relaxed atmosphere. Always festive on a Thur, Fri and Sunday. A must try is their New Orleans pizza which also comes in a half pizza half salad option!
Delicious pizzas on a thin base. I can only ever eat half so always end up with a fantastic lunch the next day. Flexible menu with enough variety to please most. Reasonably priced, especially considering how large they are. Definitely recommended.
Great experience. Friendly staff, quick service too. The food portions are massive so I had to bring home some of our food haha! Very accommodating with our 4 and 6 year olds! Well priced and tasty food. Manager very friendly too. All round great experience.
Went through to the Toad on Saturday night to watch the rugby and really had a decent time! The vibe is awesome, the service great, and the food not only really good, but pretty affordable too! We ordered pizzas for the table and they disappeared so quickly we had to order more! Will definitely go back for sure.

Long overdue revisit.
Was last at The Toad a while back and found it then to be somewhat over clinical, far too straight laced and not overly visitor friendly.
This was no reflection on the food or staff, purely based on the layout and lack of creativity when it came to the seating areas.
Big, pleasant, surprise in store.
Compliments to whoever was responsible for the current changes.
New outside bar area - best addition by far - pizza oven and all on the old deck and a makeover in the garden seating area.Bathrooms currently busy with a revamp as well.Good on you.
The entire mood was different from the start. Serving staff where on top of their game. Big smiles, efficient service and staff that actually enjoyed what they were doing. Huge high fives to all concerned. (Thank You Carla).
A light, in between beers snack was delivered (nachos) together with a complimentary dish of lamb from the spit. Both the dishes added to the festive mood and made the on-going beverages taste even better. The Lamb was to die for.
In summary - Was a very hurried affair, but never the less, one which has added the Toad on the Road back onto my, must visit and bring friends along with more regularly list.(If that makes any sense).
Great new look, awesome staff and well worth a return visit. Believe the pizza's are on my list of must haves next time round. Canāt wait.

No matter what you are in the mood for, The Toad will accommodate you. Different areas for your different moods, menu has everything from pizza to burgers, salads, nachos and steaks. Nice variety, nice vibe. Can be chilled out Sunday restaurant for a relaxing easy lunch or can be the local pub with a great local vibe.

The toad in lakeside kinda appeals to everyone. I like that they have different areas for each mood - the vibey bar area for the locals, a lovely outside area for sunny days and warm nights and the inside restaurant area to enjoy a meal. The pizzas and ribs are delish. It's comfortable and relaxed. A good spot for all.
The toad in the road was the location for the put foot rally registration and I must admit that I was bloody glad!
The restaurant looks so cool on the inside and I loved the personal touches, for example the pictures of famous locations or events with the restaurant toad photoshopped in each of them. The bar also has a number of craft beers which is always much better than the SAB counterparts. Even though there was some load shedding, it didn't dampen the evening at all. My friend and I had the Hawaiian and Josephine pizzas which were seriously delicious and the candle light somehow added to it. There's also nothing quite like stringy mozzarella cheese on an amazing pizza. The service was pretty good with the manager constantly checking in on us. Always love it when the management have a handle on things.
Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great vibe, fantastic beer and tasty pizza.

I have visited your establishment three times and found the value for food is great! The exception is the inexperienced staff you employ, twice we were placed at a table that had been reserved but no sign on it and had to move, Ā I was shocked at the limited wine selection you offer and even more astounded at the price of a glass of wine - R40!!!! Ā I could have bought my own bottle which would have cost almost half the price! Ā Do you just cater for the elite customers without giving a thought for the pensioners who visit you for their "treat" for the month! Ā I ordered a beer instead of wine and without being Ā asked by the waitress, I was given a draft beer, I am a 68 year old lady and couldn't think of getting through a huge glass that size! The toilets need attention badly, no toilet paper at times and not particularly clean. Attention to detail is required!
Very good atmosphere when ever you go there. Food portions are generous and not to pricey. Very good selection of beer. Great venue for either a family dinner/lunch or a after work drink (the reason we usually go). Staff is generally friendly.
Awesome hang out spot for a few beers and some finger foods. Awesome buffalo wings and I also enjoyed the nachos. Service is quite good too considering how busy it gets.

Great food, great atmosphere and lots to see and do. Pizza is a must-have, burgers delicious and excellent value for money. The ideal place if you have children and even doggies are welcome. Service is very good, nothing to complain about, but make sure you get there early for lunch or dinner because there is limited parking and seating.

At first glance you donāt expect much, but when you walk around there is a lovely outside section where you can relax and enjoy some fresh air. Inside was neat and spacious. It was like an upmarket bar for sport lovers.
We sat by one of the flat screen TV's to watch the soccer.
We were greeted by a friendly waiter. We ordered cool drinks(for once), and the search for what to have to eat began!
In the end I had some Calamari & unfortunately it was a little too tough. My friends ordered the following; Butter Chicken, not the greatest. Chicken Schnitzel ,this is huge and tasted good. Cajun Chicken Salad, also huge and tastes great. New Orleans BBQ pizza. Smelled good and apparently it is the best pizza around.
This is a nice place for big family lunch and to watch some sport.
We did have an enjoyable time and if we are in the area we will go back for some hearty meals.

This place was totally not what I was expecting! While I knew it would be a pub, the food is really top-class quality and choice! I shared the Crowd Favourite pizza with my mom, and had to be torn away from her half of the pizza, it was so delicious. My dad's butter chicken was something I will definitely be going back for, and my fiance claimed his chicken schnitzel was one of the best he has ever tried (and he's tried a few in his lifetime)!
The only downside was that, being a pub, it was extremely rowdy. Coupled with a rugby match being played on TV, it was almost impossible to hear each other speak. However, it was a lovely and warm space on a very rainy and miserable day, and I would be happy to go back any time (maybe not on a rugby day!).
Second time around, I tried one of the pizzas... yum!!!
My mom, daughter and me watched the World Cup Rubgy in Lakeside and was amazing! Always gave us great tables to watch with my mom in mind. There is only ONE pub restaurant on ALL Planet Earth that I could say is worthy of frequenting over and over again and it's The Toad On The Road. Why? Because the atmosphere is just right - you choose whether you prefer to be seated where the action is, among the live sport on the TVs and the enthusiastic fans or at a quiet table. The interior is neat and spacious, outside is cozy. Thre drinks flow here, the staff are terrific (on my every visit), but it's the food quality that does not disappoint! Perfectly char-grilled steak, ribs, fresh beer-battered fish, sizzling pizza from the oven... the choices are all good, the portions are fulfilling and the taste is exquisite. I would fly around the entire globe to land at this neighbourhood pub/restaurant!

Always a treat going to The Toad on the Road. Friendly waiters fast and efficient service.
The food is always delicious and fresh. We always offer the ribs or burgers. The ribs fall off the bone, and the burgers are juicy on a lovely buttery brioche bun, not to mention the generous amount of crispy chips you will not leave hungry that's for sure.
The wait is not long, and the food arrived within 15 minutes of us arriving.
Can't wait to visit again definitely worth it with reasonable prices as well.

One of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town. The atmosphere is great, the service is good, the pizzas are delicious, great selection of drinks as well. TVs everywhere so you can enjoy whatever sport is on and I love that it's pet-friendly. Looking forward to try the ribs next time I visit!

This really is the epitome of the local village pub ... service friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Food is great and the beers are cold and great selection.
I had the eisbein which I can very highly recommend and my friend a burger which was done to perfection and not one of those designer type monstrosities that looks great but is impossible to eat.
I highly recommend this as a lunch venue (I cannot comment on dinner as we were there for lunch) and will definitely be back ... often!!
Truly loved this place, it's incredible with open aired seating a closed off pavilion and indoor seating a little bit of everything for everyone during the day I would say you could bring your kids even. I love the location and how much safe parking there is. But the cherry is definatly that the food tastes great and the drinks are definitely reasonably priced with great specials

We stopped in at The toad only to remember it's a public holiday so no alcohol. My burger was a nachos burger which said man up, mmmm not so much it had 3 nachos under the patty but try the pepper it's hectic. Good food though. Love the garden setting
It's a good after work get together place. The atmosphere is chilled and I always have a good time. I have been there frequent due to good service, food and chilled vibes.
I went there this week to catch up with an old friend. We ordered the eisbein and reminisced. The waitress came over to apologize that the mash would take a bit of time and there would be a delay. It didn't bother us as all. After the meal, the manager (?) came over to apologise for it being late. We insisted - no problem. When the bill came, they comp'd us a round of drinks. That is a commitment to service I just thought was phenomenal. Thank you, team, we will be back!
Oh my God, the vibe was definitely there because the place was packed, the food was amazing, compliments to the chef and the staff and they recommended the best drinks. I spent my birthday there and I really enjoyed the venue. Amazing service!
