Review Bella Italia - Cape Town Central

Went to the restaurant for takeaway. The vegetarian Pizza was full of toppings and quite good. Prices would say slightly on the higher side.

The food is spectacular! The service is incredible! This is our 'go-to' Italian restaurant. Phenomenal spaghetti bolognaise & pizzas! I cannot recommend their food enough!
Caroline Scime
Great Pasta dishes, friendly staff and took a pizza back to our hotel for a snack. We ate beef ravioli , cannelloni, carni pizza. Plus items checked below. On different days.

I want to commend the exceptional service we received from Tawanda at Bella Italia Seapoint. As newcomers to Seapoint, my friend and I were in search of a coffee spot. My friend, being particular about his coffee, had specific preferences. When I conveyed this to Tawanda, his response was incredibly diplomatic, expressing a warm welcome to all kinds of customers. Tawanda's composed demeanor and confidence in Covim coffee and the establishment make him a true service ambassador. I highly recommend anyone visiting Seapoint to go to Bella Italia and ask for Tawanda to make your coffee.

Excellent service. We had Misa help us incredibly well and within 6 minutes of ordering our food she had us feasting on the best pizza in CapeTown

I had an amazing dinner, the food was delicious, especially the Tiramisu (really excellent). The waitress was super nice, always smiling, her service was perfect. I strongly recommend!
Bradley Patterson
Amazing food. Amazing staff and super friendly and efficient. I've been here twice in 2 days.

Members of the clean plate club! Low key phenomenal, no fuss Italian. Lasagna is out of this world, ravioli is to notch, and pizza is super solid. Great value for money and a better overall experience than other Italian in the area.

Service was excellent. Friendly staff Pizza cooked to our request.

Very authentic Italian feel!

We had dinner at this cosy restaurant in Sea Point. Loved the feel and atmosphere and the pizza was really awesome. The host Mathew went out of his way to add spark to the experience and his knowledge of Italian food and its background was enlightening and so cool. It was one of my greatest food experiences in Cape Town. This is a sure stop if you want to have a memorable meal.

Best pizzas and salads in town! Yum!

Staying over at the Royal Atlantic, me and the wife needed some Pizza! We took a take away and had a beer! Very nice staff and great pizza 🍕!!!!
Melita Manser
Amazing food. Great service. And the venue/ambiance will leave you feeling like you are in Italy somewhere

Reliably good pizza! Friendly staff and very consistent

Had an amazing anniversary dinner with my partner. FOOD was amazing probably the best pizza I had in a while stuff was super friendly and attentive to detail 🤞 .

The pizza is out of this world. Will definitely visit shortly.

I should come here more often! I feel like I am home when I come here. Reminds me of Madeira. Except the little old Italian men who once sat playing cards are no longer around teasing me! ❤ There spirits linger on! RIP Also for those living and working in the Sea Point area, they make the very best coffee! Best price in Sea Point too - R14! They serve the best, original breakfasts at reasonable prices. I had the best cup of coffee ever and a slice of rye bread with Bolognese sauce and a egg (sunnyside up) for R40. I think that for the service and quality of food, this was damn worth it! It was like going home to Mama for lunch! :) I vote Bella Italia the best restaurant in Sea Point!
Andrea Hurter
Very delicious pizzas and good house wine, but absolutely terrible service. For most of our meal we were the only people in the restaurant and it was still a huge struggle to get the attention of our waitress when we needed her.
Lauren Van Der Westhuizen
Amazing place with a homey vibe and great food. Definitely a place to frequent.

So this past Saturday my mom and I went to Bella Italia in Seapoint to enjoy a lovely Italian style meal. The restaurant was well kept with friendly service. The problem however came about when we ordered our main meal. I chose to go with the butternut pasta and my mom decided on the salmon pasta. The food delivered to my mom was clearly off and when we informed the waiter the only response was her asking us if we would like it “to go”. Astounded by her response we said no and left still having to pay for the meal. My mom has since been down with food poisoning because of the little she did eat. With the gift of retrospect I can now safely say that we won’t ever support Bella Italia again and I would advise others to do the same. It was a truly horrid experience.

Lovely humans, good pizza, good coffee. Personal note on my pizza order tonight was much appreciated. Good vibes
Kirsten 'Bott' Carabott
Great original wood fired pizza. Great vibe. Best meal I've had in Cape Town ☺
Michelle Hough
Amazing tasty pizza, reasonably priced. Quiet and intimate. Great service.

The Lasagne and Alfredo pasta were excellent... brilliant atmosphere and good service! A real little gem!

The food is exceptional! Will most definitely go there again!

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere!

Exceptional tiramisu.
Very nice, friendly service.
Authentic Italian pizza.
Large portion, full chicken.
Vegetarian options were delicious.
Lovely merlot.

Bella Italia was literally the star of the show one load shedded weekend night! Those pesky little lights out dinner time missions for food can be a little testing depending on where you are situated but lucky for us Bella Italia is only a block or two away. The staff are super friendly and offer great suggestions, although I will say they were woefully understaffed for the busy rush of customers. This resulted in us waiting for long stretches of time without service. We did order the seafood pizza (delicious) and two glasses of chenin. Really good night out and I’ll likely go back on an evening that’s a bit quieter :)

Seriously delicious pasta! Perfect portions.
Wide variety of dishes!
We had Alfredo with mushroom and ravioli with asparagus and mushrooms filling.
Service was fast and friendly
Great place for lunch or supper, will be back to try the pizza.
Italian vibe for sure 🍕👍🔙
Jessica Armstrong
Amazing pizza and pasta and really friendly and helpful wait staff. The ambiance is slightly strange here very old town Italy on sea point main, can be a bit warm inside because of the pizza ovens and it gets a bit dark too because of the Italian theming but you can’t beat the pizza here! Really unbelievably good food.

DON'T ORDER THE PASTA!!! Visited with a few friends who ordered pizza and me being a pasta lover ordered the Alfredo. According to my opinion, a pretty simple dish - don't have to do too much to make it amazing. The pasta tasted like it came out of one of those Knorr instant packets. Not made with cream or butter at all (more like cheap Margerine). Very disappointed. The pizza and service is nice though.

I like that I can sit outside with my dogs, enjoy a pizza or the chicken and veg which is what I like to order being - carb conscious and all!

Service was good and waitress friendly. The food however absolutely disappointing. Pricey for the low quality of the food. The Salmon Brushetta: Dry cheap baguette and small quantity of salmon. The prawn avocado Ritz was inedible, prawns where smothered in a tamato and mayonaise sauce. Ordered the Puttanesca pasta which I refused to eat as there seemed to be about one whole can of anchovies in there which also seemed to not be fresh. Manager was understanding and offered to make a new dish. My friend ordered the lasagna which was edible but low standard.
TASTEXPLORER
Passing by after a walk on the prom with my kids and decided to stop for lunch. Restaurant was empty. Two of us ordered drinks but my 11 year old still had a juice from the walk. Manager told her she couldn't drink it. Then, as I have an intestine disorder, I asked whether I could substitute for chips with a slice of bread. I was informed that I'd be charged extra. Seems it's all about the money. Paid for drinks and left. I hate attitude.

This is a sea point gem. Wonderful little spot with great Italian food. Although the portions could be bigger, it is reasonably priced and very homely and wholesome. Definitely recommended. The cannelloni was awesome but could be bigger.
Sah
Amazing Italian gem in Sea Point! Casual restaurant with great staff. Their pizzas are extraordinary - have eaten both there and as takeaways and every single time they have been incredible. Would highly recommend.
Quintin
This is a quiet and quant little Italian restaurant with wonderful vibe and pizzas are great to the point that they have there own unique taste.
Vanessa Van Vuuren
Great ambience and warm friendly staff. The Pizza special was a great surprise 3 for the price of 2. Generous toppings! Crispy thin base. Had early dinner but place filled up quickly around 7 pm. Dessert : cassata and chocolate salami with ice cream and a little frangelica was a pleasant ending. No fresh bread and trimmings before your meal but waiting time less than 20 min. Price is reasonable! Overall a pleasant nite ! Just get your tiny free visitors under controle then I will be back for more any time.
Nikita Cloete
The setting is not the best but the breakfast is tasty and great value for money. Also, if you are looking for pizza that is worthy, this is the place! Dig it.
Lucy Valerie Graham
A favourite low key restaurant for locals, particularly on Sunday nights. Kind and accommodating new manager + friendly staff + casual ambience + good food + decent price = a happy restaurant experience. A good experience for the whole family. Thank you Bella Italia :)
Mark Van Den Berg
Had a brilliant meal at Bella Italia! The pizza's and pasta's are amazing - we tried the Californian Pizza, Spaghetti Bolognese and Mama's meatballs with spaghetti. All top notch! For beer lovers there's Peroni and Jack Black on tap and the milkshakes are made with real Italian ice cream! The service was superb and I highly recommended this little rustic sea point gem.
Jessica Fox
I would definitely recommend this place to all couples, families and friends! I enjoyed dinner with my dad tonight so much! Amazing pizzas, pastas, wine, cappuccinos and service! Quality and Quantity of food was incredible!
Inge Wessels
We have not been here for a few years but we are incredibly impressed! The food quality has been stepped up a lot! Really good job guys!
Friendly and attentive service.
We were a little bummed that the other place was full but I am so glad because this was so much better.
The Authentic Girl
The service is great but the food is not good. I've been here two times and both times have been disappointing. I definitely won't go again.
Rebecca Starke
Such a sweet spot with a real Italian vibe. The service was 5 out of 5! We had pasta and pizza and both were delicious- it's rare to find such generous pizza toppings these days! Would go there again in a heartbeat.
Megan Bellinger
I love Bella Italia! I've been before but this last time was especially great.
It's cute and authentic-feeling inside, checkered table clothes, dim lighting and all :)
The menu has all your Italian favourites, and at reasonable prices. The wine list is good too, with Italian varietals as the house wines which is a nice touch! To eat I had the meatballs and fettuccine, and my oh.my.it was yummy! My sister had the greco pizza which had a thin base and was very generous with toppings.
Our waiter was really friendly and efficient, one thing I really appreciated is he was more than accommodating when we wanted to use the Entertainer.
They have some great weekly specials which I'll be back to are advantage of!
Rebecca Hartle
Popped into Bella Italia the other day and was kind of disappointed, to say the least. It took forever to get the waitrons attention and when we finally did, the food was slow to come out.

I ordered the fillet steak with Luigi's special sauce and chips, and my partner had the Parma ham pizza. The steak was delicious (although the special sauce seemed to just be butter ...) but the pizza was not great at all. The meat seemed thicker than usual-more like a gypsy ham texture, and the pizza was just flavourless. It usually is great, but I don't think we'll be going back anytime soon ...
Jess Abrams
Excellent authentic Italian food.
Portion sizes are perfect for a single sitting.
Outstanding gnocchi, thin pizza bases, creamy tirramisu!
I'll be back 👌
Lindie White
If it weren't for the Entertainer app, we would most probably not have tried Bella Italia. So glad we discovered it - we've already been back more than once. The venue is intimate with comfortable, non-fussy decor. Italian food is always tasty. Smoking area on the stoep is not ideal as it draws into the restaurant with the breeze which has caused us to move to a table further inside. Waiting staff are efficient if not overly friendly (could be that they're usually very busy making sure all patrons are cared for). A delightful place that we'll certainly support again.

Who doesn't love wood fired pizza?
Authentically made witth passion and care; these pizzas are delectable.
Breakfasts are on offer too and we love catching up with a coffee and w enjoying a bit of free wifi!
Had the carpaccio - delicately sliced seared beef with rocket & parmesan and the Quattro stagioni pizza ham, shrooms, olives & artichokes.
Lip smackingly good!
Robbie Newham
Great food coupled with excellent location, fast service and great service. Perfect for a quick bite on a warm summers day. Highly recommend the Bolognese - which could have originated from Italy itself.
Little Pasta
Wow! Food so authentic it tastes like it's being served straight out of Italy! Meat Ravioli and Lasagna were absolutely delicious! True Italian decor and atmosphere. Love it!

Just randomly came to this restaurant as we were walking around sea point. It looked like a Quaint little Italian cafe. We had really good cappuccinos but our breakfasts took about 35 minutes. This is quite long considering we were the only people being served in the restaurant. When our food arrived one of the meals had a fried egg instead of scrambled eggs and the poached eggs were also mixed up. Even though the waiter should've gotten the order correct I do think that they should be trained better and that this is more a training problem than anything else. They were also busy building and drilling inside the cafe which was quite annoying (can they not find time to maybe do this after opening hours?) Food wasn't bad and it is pet friendly which is a plus but in such a great city as Cape Town I cannot see myself rushing back here.

🌟 Update-Friday 26 Feb 2016 🌟
Went back to Bella Italia tonight purely to try out gifted The Entertainer 2-4-1 app...place was packed to the rafters. Picked a table on the pavement (1 of 4), ordered then went to snap sunset pics. Upon my return, was informed table was reserved and I had to move...super annoying!

Ordered California pizza (bacon/feta/avo) and Spag Bol to follow...pizza was very good and Spag Bol just as comforting as I remember it!

Unfortunately, service was very disorganised with no clear manager in sight...frequent delays, zero follow-up during dining experience and repeated requests for milk/hot water for tea etc etc...not a huge issue, but def noticeable. Must just point out that all staff were really friendly and smiley though! 😁💜

Side note...there are now waist-high solid (pine?!) wooden boards around the outside pavement area...probably for privacy/safety reasons, but I definitely felt hemmed in and cut off from the street flow..still a great view of Signal Hill from inside though! Oh, and the rude manager from before is no longer around...🐯🌎🌟😁💜🌴
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

A delightfully quirky little space...has some truly delicious authentic dishes..esp the #lasagne! Fun and funky inside/outside #coffee bar zone with small pavement Café area too...great for watching the #SeaPoint world amble by..and meet all the locals!! 😘🌍

Sadly, supremely rude manager (ex Pepper Club) spoils high score..frequently hear the screaming and abuse from the kitchen zone, and he simply refuses to even look at me, let alone greet me. 😢

However, can't fault the food! 🙌 And super reasonable offerings as well...PS occasionally they have some delightful pastries and inventive desserts 🍰 depending on the owner's mood...well worth it...@jamescapetown FAVE! 🌴👏😇
Nothing particularly special, but super chilled, good value for money and hearty Italian fare. I'd go here instead of Posticino across the road.

By far the best Italian food I have had outside of Italy. This homely family restaurant has awesome food with fresh ingredients and if you have ever been to Italy it brings back those rich memories.

I went before going to watch rugby at newlands for a quick bite. When I saw the size of the Calzone I was just going to have half and the rest as takeaway. That was before I tasted it. I ate the whole thing because it was amazing, and even though I suffer a bit with gluten intolerance the base did not give me any trouble as it was fresh and great thinbase pizza
Bebz H
Really good pizza. Thin base. Delicious tomato sauce. Simple. Tasty. I haven't yet tried the pasta, but I enjoyed the pizza and would certainly go back

Forgettable fare and little ambiance. Waitress was friendly but not always well trained (for example her thumb almost touched the food when she carried the plate).

I won't go again.

A relaxed, low-key, yet clean and calm atmosphere greeted us upon visiting Bella Italia where we dined as a group of three. After the waiter suggested we take advantage of the 3-for-2 pizza special, we didn't have to wait long before tucking in to the thin crusted, deliciously cheesy pizzas. The little bar counter outside reminded me of Giovannis, with its collection of locals, but, more central Sea Point than trendy Greenpoint.

10pm on a Friday night and I'm hungry... For really good food and really good wine - walk into this very unassuming Italian restaurant on the popular main road in sea point and am immediately surprised by the "blessing" that is our accommodating and "can be done" service. The gluten free focaccia is missable but the fillet and creamy broccoli chicken and sundried tomatoe (paired with the stunning service and average wine list... And spectacular company) make a really special Italian (boat music inspired) evening! Impressed by the service and make it possible attitude.
Guy
Pizza was tasty, thin and with generous toppings and the ambiance was fun. It is not necessarily cozy or class but uniquely informal. The only down side and annoyance was the TV that was on the wall and fairly loud. I probably could have asked them to turn it down. Overall a worthwhile contender.

Always a great evening with a Bella Italia pizza... One of my favourite pizzas in the CBD. It's a given that you need to give it a try if you are in town.
Donovan Hickey
Great evening all round. Service was great as was the atmosphere. The Italian member of our group reckoned it was the best pizza he has eaten outside of Italy. Only disappointing bit was the tiramisu. Tasted like whipped cream and biscuit. No coffee and no booze. Will definitely go back though.
Michaelkidd24
Had a great meal, I ate the Bella itallia pizza and the chef did a great job. Should be in the description on the menu that it does not include seafood or Parma ham though that was quite disappointing. Waiters were lively and kind
Ryan Goodman
The old adage if you do not succeed try again...we we have tried and tried with this tired old local eatery and have reached the conclusion that it needs to be put out of its misery and closed down. In 6 attempts they have managed to stuff up the take away orders on 4 occasions. Unaccapetable. Avoid.
Bruno Miguel De Jesus
Really great Pizza, service at first was a little weird, but the waitress may have been a little shy. LOL... the wait was long but we'll worth it in the end. I would definitely recommend this place if you in the area. :) very authentic Italian vibe and setting.
Shona Owen
To describe what we have just experienced as service would be flattery. The waiter was absolutely clueless and did not know which dish was escargot and which was avocado ritz. However I can hardly blame him, when we asked the management for more information on the sauce with the fillet (not a complicated question), the management had to be asked four times to talk to us, (we had to go to him to request his attention each time) with only two tables in the restuarant, it was not that he was pressed for time, just sheer attitude. The food was average but the service led by the management/ owner was nothing less then offensive.

Customers are obviously an inconvenience to this restuarant, I strongly recommend that you do not waste your time or money at this establishment.
Lauren Jaclyn Goldman
I love this place! Italian is one of my fav cuisines but as much good Italian as I've had, I've been looking for a place that is good, homestyle cooking. My canneloni was delicious and the portion was large. Service was efficient and our waiter was sweet and helpful. I love Postino's but it was nice to find a cosy, intimate place. I can't wait to go back!
Mitesh Kassanjee
Amazing Italian food, decent service, great location but a non existent wine list. Worth going just for the pizza though...would definitely visit again!!!
Lisa Botha Gibbon
This is a cool place to go if you're looking for traditional Italian fare. Well prepared, nicely presented, unpretentious. We had the pizza - super crisp light bases. The salads were also very good. Service was ok, a little slow but very friendly. The wine list is very limited - at R30 corkage rather byo. The aircon isn't great and seating is a little squashed so don't venture there on a super warm evening, but I'm sure it will be very cozy in winter.
TheJoburgFoodie
Amazing little Italian-style street cafe. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good coffee- Deluxe. There build your own breakfast is the most affordable we've seen in ages! We went for the scrambled eggs, grilled mushrooms and a croissant! So good. Will definitely be back.

3 of us dined here last week Friday, the 14th November. The restaurant was almost full. The staff that greeted us at the door were friendly and accommodating, offering us a choice of two tables they had reserved for us so that we could choose the one we wanted. Food:We went straight to mains, ordering the beef fillet with green pepper corn sauce and 'weigh-less' chips ( my fiancé thinks if he asks for weigh-less chips then he wont feel too guilty eating them!). I ordered the carbonara sauce with the gnocchi, and our guest ordered the seafood pasta. The fillet was perfectly cooked, the weigh less chips were scrumptious, and the green peppercorn sauce was smooth and creamy with a hint of the pepper bite. Perfect! The seafood pasta needed quite a lot of seasoning, but the seafood inside was cooked nicely and the pasta had a slight bite to it, perfectly Al Dente. Unfortunately for me...The gnocchi was a big let down. I was expecting the carbonara to be slightly creamy (not so like an Alfredo, but some cream is normally used!). It was incredibly dry, they used the cheapest bits 'o bacon on the shelf with more fat/gristle than meat, and the gnocchi was not as soft as traditional Italian gnocchi is. I also had to add salt, which isn't usually necessary when decent bacon is used. Very disappointing! For dessert we shared the tiramisu, which was the best one I have ever eaten! It truly was perfectly balanced between the richness of the cheese used, the sweet biscuits and the liqueur. Really delicious! If someone is looking for that liqueur hit this is not the one for you, but it was perfect for me.The prices are reasonable with options on the menu for everyone. The alcohol is quite expensive, with a glass of Pongracz being R50 (it is cheaper at other more fancy restaurants like Willoughby's in the waterfront). They do provide corkage at R30 per bottle, which is definitely an option to consider here.Service:Unfortunately our waitress was not around much... We had to ask for service most of the evening, and we were gladly helped by another gentlemen working there (I think his name was Serge). Although our waitress was friendly, her service (when she actually served us) was very slow and she seemed to be very distracted/busy with something behind the bar area for long periods of time.Ambience:A very traditional Italian looking restaurant, so don't expect fancy plating/cutlery/crockery. It is perfect for a date night where you want to be left alone and hide in a romantic corner, or for a family night out with the kids.Overall, I think we will be back to try their pizza's, they looked delicious. Here's hoping that our next visit has some better service (and gnocchi!).
JdP
Great pizza, decor is stereotypical Italian but nice otherwise. Breakfasts are quite expensive here but they pizzas are really good. Posticino across the road has a better vibe and larger menu but its not great value for money and way too busy.

Bella on the other hand is smaller, service is great and food is excellent. So its an easy choice, not for breakfast though.
Clive Goodheart
This is one of my wife and I's favourite pizza joints. Luca and his fiance are doing a fantastic job of re-disigning the restaurant and it has a more open feel. We have been going there for many years...even when Luca's late dad were still running the show. If I have any constructive criticism it would be only that they should try and come up with more creative pizzas on the menu as I still maintain the pizzas here are right up there with the best I have tasted.
Eric Marx
Excellent food, service and value for money. Thoroughly recommend
Caroline Swart
Thank you Luca ...who went out of his way to create a pasta which was not even on the menu "Spaghetti Puttanesca".
You will have to come to Durban to give our Italian Restaurants some advice .Amazing evening good service and very well priced .Sure to be back when next in Cape Town.
