Review Make Restaurant - Cape Town Central

Simona Marinkova
We enjoyed our dinner there, a little place with great service and delicious food. Portions are quite generous too.

I had the lover's platters and oh boy was it delicious. This was the freshest, most well-presented sushi I have ever had, prepared authentically by real Japanese people. Would 10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a good sushi spot.

What a gem in Sea Point! 😍 Love the decor. I had sushi as a starter, which was absolutely 10/10. For mains I had the crispy duck with a side of noodles. Also delicious and tasty. They are not shy with their portions, so you get quality and quantity 😜

This restaurant was a great find. The place is aesthetically pleasing. Neat and has definite attention to detail. The menu has a nice wide variety. I ordered a spring roll for a starter. It was fresh and delicious and was served with a dipping sauce. For mains I got some sushi and noodles. The sushi was delicious and fresh and was presented well. I love their chopsticks. Not the cheap wooden ones. The mains I had a noodles dish I not sure exactly which one. But it was nice and spicy like it said but not overly spicy. I love that it was super fine noodles as suggested. The portion size was huge and definitely worth the price. The service was quick and server was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place and would be coming back for more. Next time I would also like to try the dessert.

Sushi is delicious and really well priced. Service was adequate. Staff could be better trained and friendlier but you really go for the good sushi!

Quaint little spot in Sea Point that serves surprisingly good Chinese food and sushi. Wonton Soup - definitely the best dish we had. The wonton was excellent, and the soup not too salty Sushi - we had a variety and enjoyed the sushi. Decent portions and fresh Cucumber Salad - a delicious and fresh dish, the sauce was nice and tangy Beef Flank - probably the least enjoyable dish, as the sauce was a bit too salty and the meat was a bit tough

This is a little Chinese restaurant along Arthur's road in Cape Town South Africa. It can sit upto 25 pax, offering typical Chinese and Japanese cuisine. It's a quiet place offering both dine in and take away options for it's upmarket clientele. Very popular for dinner and orders can be placed in advance and table booking in advance is advised. Delivery service available too. Quick and good service with value for money pricing.

A real hidden-in-plain-sight gem - would not have stopped here but for google maps! Small place but plenty of room for couples and small groups. Sushi is great, especially the sashimi salad and wok fried green beans. The crispy duck is good, but breaded so be aware. We liked the sashimi salad so much we ordered it twice. They also have sake.
Kaitlin Mowat
amazing food, been here like 4 times in the last month.
Allie
Sushi was pretty good. The lemon chicken wasn’t what I expected.

Recommended by a friend, I've had several meals from here ranging from great to okay. Recently had the Mapo Tofu and Pad Thai and these were exquisite. Also had a deep fried aubergine dish the other day and that was very good too. All in all a place im starting to think of more and more!

good portion size, plenty of chicken in the dishes ordered, the taste ok, the packaging definitely needs to be improved, dishes also lose a lot of sauce as a result 2/22 Packing now has improved ! Food quality very nice. Had Chicken black bean.

I went to Make for lunch and there wasn't much people in, though seems to be a spot popular with tourists, given the location in central Sea Point. The atmosphere is casual and the decoration is modern. They were very busy with deliveries, but the attention was nice and the food ready in our table very quickly. I loved the vegetable dumplings, to the point to ordering a extra portion at the end to take away, they are slightly smoked, really delicious! The fried egg rice was also very well seasoned. The veg. buns were kind of dull, not much filing, same as the spring rolls. The mapo tofu was good, but too oily. The price of most items is good. 4 and not 5 because the lack of fillings on the spring rolls and bums (compared with other chinese food restaurants in Cape Town) and the excessively oily mapo.

My favorite place for asian food. And best sesame chicken in the town.

Amazing restaurant - the food is fantastic and there is great variety to choose from. The service can be a bit slow but otherwise it is worth the wait! They have the most amazing Dim Sum - potstickers, char siu bao, dumplings, Spring Onion pancake etc! I would highly recommend the Sesame Chicken - it seems as if everyone loves this dish. It is definitely my favourite. The noodles are well flavoured. The dipping sauces they serve are amazing.
Milton Koumbatis
Really excellent food at really reasonable prices. Strongly recommended. If only they could get their service level sorted out.

Wow, that was an excellent meal! Quick, efficient service! The Singapore noodles were perfectly flavored, the banana with ice cream for dessert was so yummy!

Amazing sushi, high quality and consistent. Chinese food is good too. Staff are friendly and the restaurant is very well run. Try the Triangle Rainbow Roll!

Absolutely delicious every time i’m here or ordered take out! Great prices for great food #best

I think Make's sushi is delicious. I love their sushi rice, delicate and we'll prepared. And their sesame chicken is a proper treat. But I was very disappointed in my Tom yum soup last night. I was literally a bowl of water. We ordered take aways and only discovered this when we got home. Rather don't serve Tim yum to your customers if you need to save money than not add the right amount of Tom yum paste to your stock. It was unedible. Please sort that out. I live supporting your restaurant 🍴

i love this place always a treat! Best sushi and seasme chicken in Cape Town for me!
Rogers Kel Pierra
Absolutely loved everything we had but hands down to those steamed prawn dumplings I honestly cant get over them it was our first time eating here and it certainly wont be the last Great small hidden little gem.
Lauren Woolley
I am a regular at your restaurant and have always enjoyed the food. I was exceptionally disappointed after being told I had to leave a table I was sitting at and stand after I had been at the table for quite some time, just because I was by myself waiting for food. The way in which the communication was handled was unprofessional and embarrassing....
Kera Van Graan
The food was so good. Best sashimi I've ever had, plus excellent dim sum.
Edwin Petrie
Excellent food and service. Will definitely go there again.
Ruan Robberts
This is the best food in cape town. My favourite dish is the sesame seed chicken!
Paula Harris
Owners and staff don't know how to treat customers. Waitress miserable and overworked. Food just ok. Same as most other Chinese restaurants except without the attitude. Wouldn't go there again.
Maria Tallie
Fantastic value for your money lovely food and good waivers.

Fabulous food, fabulous service!!!...warning...the cucumber salad is addictive!!! :-)

great value for money!!

I think I've just found my new go to sushi restaurant. First thing that stands out is that they are busy at 8pm on a Thursday evening - now that's a good sign. My expectations were well satisfied. Fresh sushi, beautifully presented. Great value for money. Friendly staff.
Tl
Brilliant fresh and very tasty sushi! And very well done to chefs as they did this in the midst of load shedding! We will be back!!!
Lizandri Van De Merwe
My favourite well priced sushi joint in CT so far. It’s a tradition to get the Lover’s platter when my boyfriend lands in Cape Town. It gets busy on the weekends, but worth the wait.
Santosh Singh
The soup, noodles and dimsum are awesome. But do not order sushi very below average. Staff is awesome and very helpful. Must try the hot n sour soup.
Luke
Delicious food and friendly staff. Great spot for a good meal at great prices. Awesome atmosphere as well. Packed for the whole three hours we were there.
Wilmie Visser
Fresh and tasty!
Well priced, conveniently located.
I ordered via uber eats once and the order came out perfect, i had a few requirements.
I decided to go there and sit down. The design is very modern, which is nice to see at a chinese owned sushi place. Also very clean with a cool vibe. I'll be back
Lisa
Scene: monday night travelling alone in cape town
Food: tasty but dont expect a traditional phad thai, rather expect a generous portion of noodles with peanuts
Vibe: bustling with sit down and take away customers in even proportion (always a good indication)
Service: practical but not attentive (note the restaurant was busy)
Julie Grant
Really enjoyed this little nook in Seapoint. We had the sweet and sour Chicken and Crispy Beef. Chicken was super tasty and loved the texture! Beef was slightly on the dry side but still delicious with its "special sauce". Found the side noodle portion quite small for its price, but it wouldn't deter us from visiting again or ordering take outs!
Yajna Gold
The food is reasonably price and the setting is quite nice especially on the little couch near the back.
Sushi is incredibly popular here many people eating it but for a change I decided to order dim sum and tofu and I had a delicious vegetarian meal which came with rice noodles (gluten free!)
The service was average, the food was tasty and portions sufficed for two people sharing. (We were not so hungry)
The menu has a wide variety. We will be back
Jessica Maybery
Best sushi and Chinese in Cape Town! Everything we had was amazing from the spring rolls, dim sum, sushi and sesame chicken! Couldn’t fault a thing and the place looks great after the new renovations
Osher Shuman
Small restaurant but the food is incredibly good and surprised me for this little place. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. The dumplings were very good and the sesame chicken is delicious. The sushi is incredible and reasonably priced. My favourite place to get sushi. The sushi is a good ratio of fish to rice where lots of other places use minimal amounts of fish and lots of rice.
Staff are friendly and service is always relatively quick in comparison to similar places.
GEONHEE KIM
No fancy decor, but solid good food at great price.

I normally do takeaway, cause the ambience of the restaurant is not really that I want to sit and enjoy, service is average.

But the food is delicious! and their price is excellent considering they are in Sea Point. They serve all main meal with either choice of Fried rice/steam rice/noodle. Also they sell dim-sums as well which are worth trying!

Of course don’t forget our favorite - Sweet sour pork, Mapo tofu, kung pao chicken!
Rob Meyer
This place is a real gem! The food is consistently amazing and it is such value for money. Their sushi is some of the best in Cape Town and I would highly recommend the sesame chicken! Don’t let the “hole in the wall” character of the place deter you from trying it out.
Bianco Chetty
Great sushi , dim sum and chianese / Asian food all round and very well priced. They don’t take bookings so go early if you can as this has become a Sea-Point hot spot in cold evenings
Kaitlyn Williams
Yummy Chinese food, big portions and value for money. A quaint place to sit and have dinner at with some friends. I especially liked their deep fried pork wontons. Staff seemed rather lethargic.
Simone Antoinette Krupanandham
Another amazing meal! 😍😍Sushi is always sooooo delicious and the chinese is just a thing of dreams. Today I had the Singapore Curry noodle, wow!!! U just cant stop eating it.
Tcbenade
We have ordered from here many times and it has always been great! But tonight it was exceptional! Had sushi for starters and sesame chicken and crispy beef with special sauce for mains. Everything was super delicious!!! Easily one of the best restaurants in Seapoint!
If you don’t have the sesame chicken, what are you even doing with your life? It’s a regular for us now!!
Bianca
Our favourite place to eat. Best sushi and always friendly service. Phad thai chicken is also delicious. Simple interior but good food. Dim sums are great too!
GabriellaFlorence
By far the best Chinese food Sea Point has to offer. Their sushi is of outstanding quality and their Chinese dishes are simply out of this world. For chicken lovers I'd recommend the crispy chicken dish with egg fried rice. Best prices and big portions.
Caz Taylor
Absolutely incredible food and great prices. Great for single dining or sharing a bunch of plates between friends. Don't let the decor fool you, the chefs know what they're doing!
Samukeliso Eneya
This rating is based on their take away . The sushi is good really fresh ,I am very much in love with their salmon as it's very fresh .i won't rate the service as I have not been physically there but apart from that I recommend anyone to try their sushi
Jaryd Kay
Quite literally have never been disappointed here. The food is fresh tasty and consistent. I'll return regularly. Sushi is fresh. Phad thai is yum. Dumplings are awesome too. Hot and sour soup is the best in cape town.
Jessica Zef
I read the reviews and went not expecting much in terms of decor, service and food.

The decor is plain but I love it. It's not the typical over done or drab decor you normally get.

The service was good. The waiters were friendly and advised of waiting times. The drinks and food arrived quickly.

We ordered the following:-

Chinese pancakes- Good and crispy, absolutely love it.
Spinach and Cheese dumplings - Fantastic
Beefpotstickers- Fantastic
Springrolls- these are hit and miss. The vegetable are good but the cheese and onion ones are sometimes not good as the onion is not cooked enough so its still hard and there's too much and it's overbearing the flavour
Sesame chicken- Fantastic

The deep fried ice cream was a big let down as there was absolutely no ice cream inside.
Vanessa Van Vuuren
Unfortunately I won't be back for the really bad Miso soup and BROWN tasteless egg fried rice that left me really feeling ill. Not great service either.
Tay
What a gem!! Amazing dim sum, some of the nicest sushi I have had in Cape Town and the prices are incredible. Can't wait to come back and try their chinese food also looks really great!

R30 corkage firstly, is a winner. The place is pretty Chinese restauranty so it doesn't have a huge amount of ambience, but was totally packed on a Thursday night.

We had a combination of sushi, dim sum and spring rolls which were all delicious. The dim sum was only R38 for ten pieces and were thoroughly enjoyed!

Because they were busy, we didn't expect much service related but our waiter was really efficient and kept us in the loop throughout the meal.

Will definitely be back.
Megan Bellinger
I love this Sea Point gem! Everytime I've been I've enjoyed it, whether it be for sushi, dimsum or Chinese. They have a well-varied menu and all super reasonably priced. No fuss, simple tasty food.
I'd highly recommend the love platter of sushi, and then even sharing a Chinese meal, the portions are definitely on the large side :)
We shared some beef potstickers, and then for mains chicken cashew, pork chop suey, and chicken Kong pow. Also, some of the best fried rice I've had!
Service is always good, and they charge only R30 corkage.

Food: 3.5/5
Venue and vibe: 3.5/5
Service: 4/5
................................................................................................

Booked a table for 4 , upon them calling 20 mins prior to is arriving to confirm, we arrived to find no table. They made a plan and we had good service. The dim sum was average , sushi was very good and the sesame chicken excellent with a large portion.
Lauren Woolley
Good food, sadly poor service. I was told I had to leave a table I was sitting at just because I was sitting alone. The way the communication was handled was unprofessional and left me feeling extremely embarrassed. If you want to eat there, I advise getting takeaways

I needed to satisfy my sushi craving and this was the nearest option. Walking in there at 9pm when they close at 10pm we really got great service from the waiters.

We ordered the new style sashimi salad and tempura prawn rolls. The salmon sashimi was so soft and fresh it literally melted in my mouth. The tempura was not exactly as we ordered, the rice kept breaking in the soya. ;(

This place was packed at 9pm with people coming in even later than us and everyone got seated and helped with smiling faces.

Very authentic and cool hidden place. Definitely will be back.
Sometimes the simplest meal is the most delicious. Fresh ingredients, perfectly prepared, excellent quality & average for money.

The sushi salad was good albeit a small portion.
The sashimi was outstanding. Bit on the pricey side but great quality sushi non the less!

The setting is somewhat sterile and unappealing; no music or vibe so probably best for take out.
Megan Parker
First time at Make restaurant, the service was welcoming and pleasant. We ordered sushi only, the Lover's Platter. The 24 piece platter was well priced with generous portion sizes. I always seek out salmon roses, and these are the best I've tasted yet. The decor is understated and simple, yet charming. Great prices for Sea Point area, can't wait to return.
Hend Amer
This is my third time at Make, and I can say now that they consistently good. The restaurant itself is rather "bare" for my taste in decor but it is still simple and clean. The service is always warm and welcoming. As for their menu, I have only ordered sushi and it is very good. Their prices are very competitive for Sea Point sushi joints. Personally I always order their happy platter which has miso soup and 12 pieces of sushi for 58 rands and I order sashimi to go with it.
If you are a sushi lover, I recommend that you give make a try
Wez_Undercover
Nice little find in Sea point. I really enjoyed their sushi, fresh, tasty and not to much rice. Also very affordable, service is abit slow but who cares if you have great sushi.
Ryan Goodman
Without a doubt one of the best chinese and sushi take-out meals we've had in quite some time. Beautifully spiced edamame, fresh and reasonably priced sushi (try the Wonderful Platter and Volcano Roll), and one of the tastiest chicken and cahsew nut dishes I have had.

Highly recommemded and do yourself a favour, if you don't feel like fetching, order through DelX - delivery arrived in 15min!!!

After trying out Dynasty just down the road, we wandered into Make. With VH1 on in the background and a bit of a grungy look to it, we knew this place might be the hole-in-the-wall of our dreams! We got the Lover's Platter, which was delicious (the prawn sandwich was to die for) and we were so tempted to try something else as well. They have a great selection of well-priced platters and specials. Also, their drinks (beers, ciders, etc.) are R18 each. WHAT?! Yep, this place has charm, even if it is a little rough around the edges. We'll be back!
Simon Spurr
Brilliant sushi...fresh, well prepared and great prices! Little gem of a restaurant. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. I'll be back a few times

Went to Make the other evening for some Chinese food take out. A good selection of the normal favourites on the menu. The food was quite tasty; the only disappointment was the crispy duck, I wasn't expecting a crumbed batter and the meat was slightly dry, but other dishes were good. There's not much of an ambiance as it's mostly just chatter from the other diners. The service was decent, the food took about 20 minutes to come out and the pricing on the menu was affordable. Overall, I would say it's a good option if you want some Chinese take out, although I would suggest phoning ahead if you aren't prepared for the wait.
Tim Sporrel
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I went in here on a Thursday afternoon, I had not eaten lunch, and just stumbled in on a whim. I ordered hot sake and the menu for 79 rand which is the equivalent of 5 euro. I received spring rolls, soup, a main course with fried rice, and a green tea at the end. The food was overall good, especially for the price, and the staff was courteous and the service fast. I will be going back here!
Daniel Malan
I have lived in Sea Point for a while now and have always struggled to find an affordable, reliable Chinese restaurant to eat at week in week out. The food is prepared with care and the staff are friendly. It's not fine dining. It hasn't got the perfect finishes but judge it on the prices and food.
The Cape Town Glutton
We have never actually sat down at this place but we are all about their sesame chicken! It is absolutely delicious! Perfectly friend and coated in a slightly spicy but mainly sweet sticky sauce. This is the asian chicken dish of your dreams! If you are looking for a quick take away, have a pop in and try them out!
Lori Claire Cape
Very unsuspecting sushi place. But the sushi was really really good. Very small restaurant but gets quite busy. Would highly recommend. Don't judge a book by its cover.

While being in Seapoint this weekend, Alexandra Ribet and I went to Make for sushi. It was so cold outside that we felt the warmth of this place the minute we walked in. Make is very different during the day were it's generally empty and at night it's like a new restaurant with a cool vibe. Okay it's not a high standing restaurant but it works ! The waitress which is always there, Is always very nice and smiling. There is plenty of special wether it's sushi or Chinese food. We both had a little platter of sushi and a Chinese dish. I had a chicken fried rice and I asked to add prawns in it for an extra R10 (Yes I like to mix, blame it on growing up in Mauritius). To my surprise, the Chinese food was much better then sushi, it was almost like Chinese food I grew up with in Mauritius so it was a very good surprise and it was delicious ! Make is reasonably priced and a chilled ambiance ! Thumbs up !

Great place to go for good quality sushi in Sea Point. Very affordable and beautifully made. Service was a bit average but the food makes up for it.
