Review Ground Art Caffe - Cape Town Central

Stumbled upon this gem of a cafe whilst out and about in the early morning. Beautiful coffees and an amazing breakfast of eggs and avo on toast. Service is top notch with friendly and welcoming baristas and staff. Great job guys. Special thanks to Wisdom for his"wise" suggestions on the menu items.

Beautiful souls work here and their energy makes it a wonderful experience. Whether a quick coffee or a delicious meal it’s a versatile happy place for all & everything. Ground Art Caffe even has a backgammon board, and for those in the know the boys who run the show are the ones to beat. The place, the people, the food are all pure gold. I’ve been going for years and it feels like family.

The friendliest service, freshest food and great atmosphere. Small intimate restaurant that's all about service and consistency. The staff are super friendly, offer great service. Check out the art that's on display monthly and even purchase to add to your collection. "Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name"

We spent three days in Cape Town and this little spot was our breakfast spot every morning. The service was impeccable, the food was creative, beautifully presented and unreasonably delicious. I would recommend the Wild Mushrooms with a cheeky side of bacon to fuel even your most energetic activities ( like climbing Table mountain on a sunny day ) and you will not be disappointed. My coffee aficionado wife ( snob ) reckons they do truly amazing things with the beans. Thanks so much to the awesome front and back of house team that gave us such fantastic experiences. ❤️

A perfect breakfast spot. The menu is extensive and everything we tried was excellent, the “porridge with everything” in particular. It’s really relaxed, open, airy. The coffee is pretty damn good too

Love this place. Amazing home-made bagel that is so light and chewy, not thick and stodgy. Good coffee too. Excellent service. Lovely interiors. Win!

Great coffee, food and service! We are happy everytime we visit and the different artwork on the wall is a plus... A little disappointed that there was no vegetarian soups available yesterday, we'll make sure to call next time prior to arrival.😉

Hi all. I just enjoyed the loveliest brunch at this quaint cafe. From the flavorful food to the spectacular service, there is nothing to complain about. I’m so appreciative and would highly recommend this little spot in the heart of Cape Town.

What a wonderful morning out. The breakfasts are reasonably priced delicious works of art. The coffee is the best! The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and you can quite easily spend a morning there without thinking of having to do chores. Highly recommended.

Yesterday myself, my girlfriend and my cousin went to view the "Timeless" photo exhibition, and also have lunch at Ground Art Cafe.

First thing is that the restaurant itself is delightfully neat and warm, albeit quite small (as is the case with most Cape Town city restaurants. However this takes nothing away from how great it is, in fact one could say that the size makes it all the more intimate and personal, which is something I do love).

To begin the service was absolutely fantastic from the very start and continued throughout the meal as well, which just made the experience as a whole all the more fantastic.
For drinks I had a Berry Blast smoothie, which whilst admittedly did like a little long to arrive, the rich flavour was well worth the wait.

For the meal, we have the Italian Ham sandwich and the Smoked Chicken salad (both were INCREDIBLE). The ham sandwich was surprisingly filling and the salad was smoked to perfection. I also have to say it was some of the best food presentations I have seen.

We ended our meal with flat white coffees (again, served beautifully). The blend was delicious and for once it was a pleasure to enjoy a coffee that was not burnt and that was balanced really, really well.

To top it all off, I was also able to view a stunning photographic exhibition in store (I LOVE that they are prioritizing the support and exposure of art) and the chef himself came to see how we were enjoying our meal, again the extra measure of service from everyone in store was just fantastic and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone travelling thought the Waterkant part of Town.

I will definitely be back soon.
Small and cosy. Seriously the best coffee in Cape Town! Great friendly service. The kind of place I can imagine becoming my regular spot! Great snack and breakfast menu. Top class quality.

Love this spot !!! Firstly my flat white was just insanely delicious, a great subtle honey note coming through. The decor it's modern and I love the grey and white scheme going on with little accents of green given by a variety of succulents. I'm also a super big fan of the concept "what's on the the wall" where an informative leaflet tells you about the artwork displayed for purchase. It's a mini coffee shop gallery. The food menu is super short and to the point. Expect items that don't need to be cooked but can prepared quick and easy. The ciabatta roll I had with gammon rocket and sun dried tomatoes was perfect. I love the plates that everything is severed in. Service is quick and the staff are friendly. HUGE PERK the fact that besides wifi there is a plug point that has a built in USB charger ... come now I almost thought I was in Switzerland there for a second with that level of consideration. The coffee alone will keep me coming back.

A great little location to curl up in a patch of sun with a cup of something hot.

A small, stylishly decorated space makes up The Waterkant's Ground Art Caffe – dark charcoal walls, warm lighting and limited seating make this coffee spot an intimate choice if you're not all that keen on the chaos of the surrounding café franchises. They also feature local art in their space, which they change up every so often and so we got to enjoy the work of Caroline Tomlinson while we ate our lunch.

A neatly condensed menu offers different coffees and teas, fresh juices and baked goods whilst in the way of food, Ground Art Caffe leans toward the Italian with their Antipasto Platter, filled Panini's and Tomato Bruschetta. We opted for an Iced Coffee and a Flat White with almond milk – the latter had a decent coffee flavour and wasn't all that sweet which is a welcome change from the usual weak, overly saccharine excuses that are passed off as iced coffee elsewhere. My Flat White was aromatic and the almond milk frothed beautifully, giving the coffee a lovely nutty flavour. I fell a little in love with their gorgeous coffee cups and serving plates too.

To eat we had the Salami, Melanzane and Rocket on gluten-free sweet potato bread. The fillings were reminiscent of some of the better Italian food I've enjoyed and the olive oil used on the bread had the most wonderful buttery flavour. Also, they don't skimp on ingredients – my sandwich was nice and full! Their prices are very reasonable too.

Great service, a cosy atmosphere and tasty treats – what's not to love?

Can I just say how deliciously amazing Ground Art Caffe is ... I just love quirky little coffee shops like this; that have personality and are all about making really good coffee and providing great service.

Ground Art Caffe is something else though. It's almost as if you walk in there and you walk out with a tiny slice of Italy with you - just a slice!
It's perfectly situated away from the traffic and the buzz of the City Bowl, but still close by enough for you to get back to the office in time. So many cool spots have opened up recently in De Waterkant and I'm proud to say that Ground Art Caffe is one of them!

I'm such a fan of their potato bread which is ridiculously guilt-free and probably the most dangerous thing you could ever put in your mouth! Dangerous in the sense that you just keep going back for more. . .and more

You need to try out their bruschetta though. It's to die for. I honestly have high regard for chefs who take simple ingredients and elevate them. Splendid!
Okay back to the bruschetta. You need to order that off the menu, definitely get the coffee (no sugar needed at all, & that's how you can tell if coffee is good or not btw), the fresh apple & mint juice, and oh you have to take some chocolate croissants for the office. You just have to!

I'll be heading back in a week's time. Novel and bag in tow, hoping that the grey armchairs have no occupants and that the barista will keep the caffeine flowing and the experimental nibbles on the table.
James Hobbs Yolandi Otto I Love Foodies Living It Up CT

A hidden gem located in De Waterkant.

This beautiful Italian styled cafe is the perfect location to get away from the crowed and enjoy good coffee and breakfast, while catching up with emails and looking at the good surrounding views for inspiration.

The baristas were friendly and helpful and helped me out so i could take the perfect photo to share on social media. When you see the food you will want to do the same. Trust me!

Take a look at the platters of food in the photographs below. I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I over indulged in the pastries and i don’t regret it at all.

Try the the chocolate & Almond croissant if you can. It’s totally worth it.

The perfect little cafe for a morning treat before (or during) work!

Went to Ground Art Caffè as part of a zomato meet up this morning and was pleasantly surprised to find this lovely spot tucked away on Strand Street. (Yes, you've probably driven past it countless times, too)

The coffee was wonderful (and served with the tastiest biscotti), the staff professional, friendly and helpful, and the menu diverse enough for a quick latte or a hearty brunch with a colleague. We got platters of some of their offerings to have a try- their pastries are devine, paninis suprisingly soft and easy to eat. Generally everything was simpy well made. They even have potato bread for the gluten free folk, and almond milk for the lactose intolerant!

They also have an experimental menu that rotates monthly which I have to go back and try! Favourites from that menu do end up on the main menu, so feel free to give them feedback.

Overall, the cafe was exactly what I'd want it to be- intimate, efficient, simple yet dynamic, arty, plus they have wifi. Great spot to sit and do some admin on your laptop.

We are enjoying discovering new places in our beautiful city and again we were pleasantly surprised when we went to Ground Art Caffe over the weekend. Ground Art Caffe is situated in the trendy De Waterkant area on the edge of town close to Cape Quarter. It has a small yet spacious feeling interior with white walls and lots of windows for natural light.

Thanks to Zomato and Ground Art Cafe, I received a complementary voucher to try out their café. Located in De Waterkant, this petite, quaint establishment, boasts some of the yummiest pastries and bakes. Today, we tried their Prosciutto and rocket panini, Toasted chicken and mayo (with sundried tomatoes and basil pesto) on ciabatta, as well as their flat white, served with a yummy biscotti on the side. What more can I say than it was absolutely delicious! Added to that, the staff are friendly and service was efficient, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Great way to start the weekend! I absolutely love this cafe after my first visit in October. The staff, food and coffee are all great - so much so, that it's now honestly my new favourite coffee shop in Cape Town. I will definitely be returning!

I would strongly recommend trying their delicious Espresso(s) and ciabatta paninis, which are superb.

If you can't stay, enjoy a takeaway coffee or meal and tuck in later. But if you have the time, stay a while... It's the perfect place for a meet-up, date or reunion with friends and loved ones. :)

Keep it up, Ground Art.

Such a refreshing addition to Cape Towns coffee culture. A beautiful setting with relaxing indoor and outdoor seating. Excellent coffee! Seriously good! The panini, pastries and juices are simply delicious. The art wall exhibiting young artists is very professional. To top it off - excellent friendly service. I'll definitely become a regular.
