Review Loading Bay - Cape Town Central

Lovely cool restful atmosphere. Very minimalistic. Service is excellent, waiters freindly and helpful. Food was great. I had Green Goodness with broccoli and mange tout replacing the kale. Added bacon. Delicious and a good size serving. My companion had King oyster myshroom ragout with added bacon - absolutely sublime. Good rich strong coffee on arrival and am iced coffee to end the meal. All in all a great experience. I will return.

Brunch/lunch coffee place/ clothing shop /Aesop store. Interesting combo. Interior is done well, very industrial and popular/hip design. We walked in without reservation without any problem. The person serving our table was very kind and taking care of the entire place. The person behind the bar was less involved- when the bell rang for service he even indicated the kitchen should calm down and wait for the guy serving everyone, while he continued playing (or working, who am I to tell) on his phone. Didn’t feel right or good. The dishes were nice, delicious. As were the buns we took home with us. Part of my order had been forgotten but they solved it pretty quickly. Bit of a shame that they offer seasonal pressed juices but only had orange juice when we asked about it. My internal reaction was that the phone- bar guy seemed to have enough time to press some juices- which shows to me that if I have enough time noticing this, so should the rest of the staff.

I’ve been visiting loading bay for over 5 years, and in some weeks, I visit daily. It has an amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, high-quality organic, regenerative farming produce for their restaurant menu. It is literally my favourite cafe and lunch spot in Cape Town. Well done to JP, Nicole, and team! Looking forward to many more years visiting ❤️

If you're looking for a great coffee shop in the city this is the place for you. The coffee served here is excellent, sure to satisfy any coffee lover. In addition to coffee, the shop also sells a wide range of international clothing and skincare brands, providing a unique and exciting shopping experience. The selection is carefully curated, with an emphasis on quality, style, and sustainability. Whether you're looking for a new outfit or the perfect skincare/beauty product, you're sure to find something you love. The shop also offers a great working space, with comfortable seating options, free high-speed Wi-Fi, and plenty of natural light. The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful, making it an ideal spot for work, study, or creative pursuits. Definitely a place for the health conscious. Never heard of lion's mane and cordyceps before. We were able to order more 'normal' food though. I had scrambled eggs on sourdough bread and my husband had the croque Monsieur minus the bacon. They make their own bread which was delicious. They also make their own cinnamon rolls. Had one straight out of the oven and it was yummy. Service was excellent!
Amy Chen
I have been here a few times but not in the last few years... It's still good, from the coffee to the food and the service. They still sell Aesop products upstairs which is always so tempting! There's quite a few cafes within the area, this is definitely one of the good ones!

Beautiful space in De Waterkant. Love the focus on sustainability, and the variety of healthy bowls on offer. Hubby had the Breakfast roll served with fresh avo, eggs and crispy bacon and liked it. I had the Buckwheat and pumpkin seed Pancakes with fresh fruit which was out of this world. Service is great and for breakfast it's a bit pricey but worth it. Tip automatically added to the bill.

Great spot for breakfast although they are open all day. Simple, modern space with amazing food and service. Prices are also really decent for the portions and fresh quality in comparison to maby other restaurants around the city that are often more expensive and offer less. There is an outside deck that is perfect for sunny mornings. Pet friendly, good Wi-Fi and relaxed atmosphere! Visited here on a number of occasions for breakfast and always had an amazing experience - highly recommend Loading Bay for locals and out of timers.

We loved it there. Modern feel, small and Cosy and lovely healthy and tasty food.

A Cape Town classic, Loading Bay serves top notch breakfasts in a contemporary setting with high ceilings. The Swedish cinnamon buns with coffee are my best combo.
Ricardo Blach
Good coffee, very good food, easy choice. Anything in their menu with sourdough is worth it. My fav, the classic grilled cheese, they bring it with chili marinated tomatoes, just perfect. And their cinnamon rolls..
Herman
It’s been a while since I’ve been back at Loading Bay and a lot has changed. It feels so much more cosy and relaxed. The staff were really helpful and the food uncomplicated and delicious. My scrambled eggs on toast were deliciously creamy and perfectly seasoned, and the coffee was well-made. I’ll happily return again soon.
Micaela Menegaldo
The food is incredible and I was surprised by how well priced it was. Definitely going back to try a few of their other breakfasts
Carla Ewertse
Beautifully curated space. Leaves you feeling inspired. I had a delicious long black (one of the best coffees I've had in ages). Had the Health bowl which was fresh and delicious. Service is very good. Highly recommend!

I can understand why some people love this place, very "Cape Town" hipster vibes. Just not for me. Lots of things about organic food. Organic carrots with breakfast was strange. I'm a bootleggers fan, this will be for others.
Talya Galasko
Delicious breakfast spot with excellent service and a clothing/skincare section upstairs incl brands like Aesop and Acne. Try the oyster mushrooms on toast or the flapjacks if it’s the weekend! The burger is outstanding — so good that I’ve forgotten to take a photo 😅
Doron Goldberg
Had brunch with our kids on a busy Saturday. Service, food and coffee all outstanding. Chilled friendly staff. All round excellent experience.

Terrible service and food takes forever to come out. Waiters knowledge of what is available is shocking and what was ordered clearly was not communicated to the kitchen or the kitchen staff was too busy taking calls on a cellphone to pay attention. Second time in a row now our order was messed up. The management and staff needs to be send for training. The place has potential to be great. Might be popular in Cape Town, but on the a global scale... definitely lacking and among the worst experiences I've encountered. Won't be back. Ever.
Jessy Da Silva
Amazing breakfast at The Loading bay, great atmosphere and service from our waiter. Food was delicious the burger was the best! The sweet potato chips where so addictive I wanted more (you get quite a few). Would recommend a visit!
Aman Singh
The atmosphere in there is so comfortable,
you can visit this place if you wanna just
have some food and drinks and to talk. You
can comfortably sit there and talk. Let's
come to food. Taste is amazing I'm superb. I
used to go there with my friends in the
evening to have a little conversation.
JK
Well the food is good, definitely enjoyed my breakfast but would've loved a bit more(maybe salmon eggs Benedict on the menu). Atmosphere & service is great. Expected much more but won't be rushing back anytime soon. All I can say now is that I wanted to try The Loading Bay and now I have😊
Aiden Suskin
Coffee is sour and food was way overpriced for what I received. I got the Birchers muesli and was so dry and pricy for such a small portion. The decor however is very beautiful.
Rene
2018/05/19 - nice atmosphere and tasty food. Ordered hot chocolate and a coffee - these were brought to the table a few minutes apart, and to eat we ordered the breakfast roll and a cardamon bun. These were also brought to the table a few minutes apart. Both were delicious.
Kai Chen
The overall atmosphere was superb. Waiters were friendly and service was quick considering the amount of people there. Definitely recommend the creamy mushroom ragout paired with the matcha latte! Perfect match 🔥
Paulo De Almeida
Nice vibe, but the menu is a bit narrow. Food was good but doesn’t warrant a 4.3 star rating. Restaurant doesn’t have soft drinks like coke or Coke Zero and only selection of two craft beers on offer. Won’t be back in a rush.
Caitlin Harvey
One of my favourite coffee shops in town! It’s beautiful, spacious and the coffee is excellent. It’s also a great place to work at. Would recommend trying their cinnamon buns.
Lesedi Ramonyane
One of my favourite places in Cape Town for brunch or lunch. Make sure you arrive early on the weekend cos they tend to run out of food😂.

The restaurant is a beautiful space, everything down to the glass straws are just perfection.

My go-to is the wilted spinach with assorted wild mushrooms in a basil pesto. This served with a mild fermented kimchi (one of the reasons why I always have this meal) a poached egg and double fermented sourdough.
Robin Mahlangu
I absolutely enjoyed my visit. I loved the high ceiling and the overall interior design of the space. I had my Kombucha by their outside seating and moved inside for my meal. I had the Salmon which I enjoyed very much and special mention goes to their truffle fries, which deserve an honourable mention. I'm a big fan of small details and the finishing on the tea cups caught my eye which just added to how amazing this place is.

The Loading Bay is fairly typically trendy CBD Cape Town fair - tight space, bustling vibe, fair service and decent food. I’ve got no complaints and I’m glad I tried them out, but I would not rush back. Nothing wrong with the food though.
Lucy McGhie
Hands down the best breakfast I’ve ever had ! We each had the ginger shot was very strong but definitely worth it, we tried the gold and green juices they were delicious and perfectly made. My breakfast was the zucchini Panko poached egg, best poached egg I’ve ever had and was made so perfectly. The price is definitely worth it and the service was outstanding. The vibe is so cool.
Definitely want to go back and bring all my friends to try this place out and try more on their menu

Our loading bay love affair stems as far back as 2014 👀 (when the Mirage hotel opposite was still under construction and Loading Bay used to have burgers nights on Thursday evenings 😁)

Loading Bay is more than just an eatery, it is a well-curated lifestyle package as you have three beautiful spaces living under one roof: downstairs is the Japanese inspired eatery ⛩ (functional minimalism at its best), slightly elevated is a clothing store which stocks Scandinavian minimal clothing brands such as Acne Studios 🇸🇪, Norse Projects🇩🇰, Our Legacy 🇸🇪 etc, and finally right at the top is the Australian skincare brand Aēsop's Store 🇦🇺... we love their Parsley seed range

Stop by for a Fika of freshly baked goods🥖 and quality coffee ☕️ as early as 7:30am weekdays... alternatively indulge in a later breakfast or lunch... for breakfast we recommend either the bircher muesli muesli or the buttermilk pancake stack 🥞🤤 for lunch, go for anything that tantalized your tastebuds from their 100% grass-fed beef burger 🍔 to the beef shortrib with their truffle fries 🍟 or the fried chicken strips

Their food is indeed amazing, however, surprisingly they don’t cater to people with special diets such as those who are gluten free and Banting 😭

*TIP: there are no reservations to be made, we love that! Wait patiently while a table becomes available over a glass of water or a green juice and absorb the interiors... look around the clothing store and go peruse the offerings at Aēsop.

Hands the best breakfast/brunch spot in Cape Town. Even better than Jarred’s. Impeccable service, the best almond milk flat white I’ve ever had and delectable food. I had the pesto greens with a variety of mushrooms and I added smoked salmon and avo on the side. I want to come back and eat here everyday for ever and ever.

After reading some great reviews of the restaurant I decided to give it a try for Sunday brunch. For just two people the drinks took about 20 minutes if not more to arrive. When it was time to order the food, there was no avocado and most of the dishes included avocado. We didn't receive an apology or an offer to substitute with another ingredient, yet we paid the same price for the food without the avocado, no discount. The food itself took about an hour to arrive, just for two simple breakfasts. The food tasted good but was not worth the long wait, especially compared to other restaurants in Cape Town.
The decor was very nice.
Saul Chilchik
The space has been updated with beautiful modern decor and an equally beautiful menu. Ethically sourced ingredients make for a small menu with classic healthy favorites and indulgent treats.

The buckwheat pancakes are delicately sweetened with fresh organic fruit and the grass fed beef burger with truffle fries are the crowd favourite.

Their fairtrade coffee and other artisanal drinks compliment the well thought out food menu. Stellar service from the committed staff and the central location in Cape Town’s trendy De Waterkant make for a great breakfast, lunch and coffee spot.
Laura-Ashley
The most amazing poached egg I have ever had in my life! I know what you are thinking... how difficult can it be... but a panko crusted poached egg on top of a salmon cream cheese zucchini rosti melt in your mouth stack of scrumdiliumtious... yes please!

The cost is well worth is and really reasonable given what you pay now on the Cape Town food scene. The menu was interesting and tempting and I had tough time choosing! They all sound so good!

They have a wonderful variety of fresh drinks and my Macha iced latte was perfect for the hot day!

The service was really great and the waiter was helpful and friendly!

The overall vibe was a busy lunch time vibe in the CBD and it was great for me to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the sunshine!

Definitely want to go back and have all my friends try this meal!

Day 1 back at work after the Xmas break and all I wanted to do was escape adulting and have brunch during my lunch break.

I've heard so many great things about this place and decided that it would make for the perfect escape. Also they serve breakfast all day.

Had my heart set on mushroom ragout with their truffle fries. Sadly the delivery guy was running late with their oyster mushroom order.

Received the recommendation to try the spinach pesto eggs on sourdough. Not shabby at all! Perfectly poached eggs. Very yum. Very Dr Seuss like (minus the ham, although you could add Serrano ham to make it a green eggs and ham dish).

Those truffle fries though! Stuff dreams are made of!!

Would totally score this place higher (they simply have the best breakfast menu in town). However, I would like the option of indicating how much I would like to tip, rather than having it included automatically on my bill. Service was superb and would've tipped a higher %. But due to this cheeky addition, I stuck to what was put on the bill.

Love the fact that this place is organic. The set up is so unique and our waiter was so nice, made us feel like we were home. Food was so delicious .
Trevor
Very trendy place attached to Aesop clothing outlet
Small and intimate serving great coffee
Unusually friendly manager and staff
The breakfast was really excellent and bursting with flavor
Enjoyed our quick breakfast and will definitely be back

I was here on a rainy Sunday morning and as you can imagine the line to get seated was quite long, however the waiter reassured us that he would secure a table. When we finally sat down service was prompt. The food was a bit average though, nothing to write home about but I really enjoyed the ambience nevertheless.

I've been wanting to visit The Loading Bay forever, and it was certainly worth the wait! Saturday mornings are packed so be sure to get there early. It's quite a small place with an almost rustic feel; certainly a great place to start your day. Our waiter was so friendly and ensured that we got a table as soon as possible.

I shared the spicy scrambled eggs and the buttermilk pancakes which were both delicious! The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked and the buttermilk pancakes were plated so well.

I really appreciated the effort made to cut down recycling by raising awareness and replacing plastic straws with glass straws, for example.

My new go to breakfast spot in Cape Town has to be The Loading Bay. Having been a couple times, I can attest to the food being delicious as well as some great coffee.

The restaurant design is clean and modern and the shop to which it is agonies has some really cool clothes - although I think I'll need to get a job before I can afford anything there!

I will be back soon for a green juice and spicy scrambled eggs.

Oh and I nearly forgot to mention that they also use glass straws for their drinks so they are doing their thing to save the environment as well!
JK
We had heard such great things about this restaurant and we were so excited to try it. However, we waited 20 minutes for coffee and over an hour for food, which was average and bland when it did come. Wouldn’t recommend it...
Jo
Everything you've heard it is! Service great and Leon a true asset.
Their signature dish Hotcakes oh so yum. Adding the vegan ice cream as recommended by Leon was a pleasant addition and now need to get my hands on more vegan ice cream
Atara Jaffe
Really wonderful little foods here very trendy and hip I just really like the look and feel of the place plus the food is simple and not overwhelming but really good quality well-made and wonderful

Oh what a find! Wanted to come here for quite some time, and finally the starts aligned. Had quite a bit of trouble on deciding what to eat, since we glanced over at the other tables plates. We opted for Asian noodles and chicken strips. The dishes are more than just a great portion of tasty food. It's balanced with bags of fresh flavors. Love the look and feel. Almost NYC feel. Modern. Simplistic. All round thumbs up from me.

A great spot for brunch, The Loading Bay makes some of the most delicious food! Make sure to try their gold juice - its to die for. Their hotcakes are not only yummy but a work of art. Unfortunately mine came with a little something extra in the form of the top of the syrup bottle hidden in the pancakes. I thought it was a pretty funny ordeal until the staff was completely unapologetic. Nevertheless the food is worth another trip there.
Samantha
Great little restaurant.

The staff are friendly and the restaurant itself is very modern.

The food was really good too! We tried the mushroom ragout, ham and cheese tramezzini, truffle fries and buttermilk pancakes. All were divine!
TK Boulais
We had the cold brew and green tea. The tasting notes served with the cold brew were a nice touch. The scrambled eggs on sourdough with rocket and heirloom tomato jam was delicious. Love the decor, comfy banquettes and good vibe.

The Loading Bay is a vibey place for all types of people and the food is always Top Notch. They are known for their Truffle fries which are delicious. I had the crispy asian beef noodles which were flavourful - The sticky asian sauce is so yum..! Great for business lunches or a coffee & cinnamon croissant in the morning.

Today I'm having a look at the loading bay. It seems most places I've visited Cape Town are in love with these white subway tiles. In this setting they work really well against the polished concrete and brown earthy tones from the wood and leather accents. I'm always going to love the Edison bulb and here they are used to highlight the main bar area. Looking around I saw ice tea being served in a beaker and glass straw - how novel ! As a scientist I thought this was a super cool and eco friendly because you aren't throwing away straws.

Having a look at their menu they mention their use of sustainably farmed ingredients and and using local farmers. I quite like that.

I had the poached egg (how predictable of me) on sour dough with avo and salmon. The poached egg was good but overdone *oozy egg yolk sold separately. The bread was fresh and I quite enjoyed the combo. Personally I don't care much for coriander and I don't think it had any business being on my plate - but that is purely my preference. I love the rustic plates my food was served on. It looks like something forged out of a volcano. I really think an edible flower would contrast so well on the plate besides giving a peppery note it would makes such a cool contract between the two extremes. @

Trendy and sophisticated with a carefully put together menu offering a good selection of very well prepared and well presented food. Service a little tardy at times but overall enjoyable experience.
Nicol Miller
Popped in to meet up with a friend for coffee, and I'm honestly so impressed with the space. I love the exposed industrial pipe, the wood finishes and the masculine feel it has. To drink I had the Gold juice, apples, lemon and pineapple and my friend had a Cortado. I would love to come to have some lunch,as the food that left the pass, looked delicious
No clue where to go on Sundays? Then try The Loading Bay. After a tedious drive up kloof street (yawn) my daughter, Tiyaarah the foodie in the family, suggested the loading bay. What a surprise. Amazing coffee. I dont usually have grilled salmon for breakfast but their all day menu had it and was worth a try . Delicious with a poached egg. Will definitely try it again. Thanks Tiyaarah and Danyaal . Love it when my kids are grown up and pay for themselves......successTiyaarah Cloete Mymsaf1 Cloete

The food is good and has a nice relaxed atmosphere but the service is a little slow for a Sunday when it's very busy. Better during the week
Jacqueline Koch
First thing that strikes you is the friendliness of the staff as you enter through the doors. Everyone stops to greet you.

Great buzz, relaxed vibe.

Loved everything about the menu. The fact that everything is available to order all day, the variety of teas and coffee on offer, and of course the food options. So much to choose from. Different, unique, and tasty ingredient. More than enough healthy options to choose from.

Our coffee and food arrived promptly, even though it was busy. Food was fantastic.

The kind of place you will come back for, if only because you'll have such a hard time narrowing down an option for breakfast and need to come back to try at least another 3 options you also had lined up!
Rita Xavier
I love the restaurant! Concept, space, staff and the food all delicious! Perfect for a quick lunch, the burger is super tasty and the golden juice is the right drink to kill this hot summer...

First 5 in a long time! Went here for breakfast after I moved to Cape Town and from the moment I stepped in, I had different explosions of Wow (in a VERY good way!). The waiters were so friendly, greeting you like an old friend who you haven't seen in a while. The service was top notch, asking me if I wanted things before I knew that I wanted then - and the food, THE FOOD! So much attention detail: colours, flavours, platting arrangement. Will definitely be back,l for more!! Thank you!!
Didi Tsitsi
I really enjoyed their coffee- and even watching the beautiful process of the pourover!
I had the cinnamon roll, which was great and not too sweet. Also extremely glad that the service was good and that it is open on a Sunday!
Eager to go back for more!
Epikoros
Very nice breakfasts. Mushrooms are superb. They know how to poach an egg!

A little pretentious but look past that and enjoy the food and coffee
Maxine
We had just arrived in Cape Town and waiting to check in to our accommodation when we stumbled open The Loading Bay. What a delight from when you arrive, the staff are absolutely amazing, the coffee is to die for and there are no words for the food, WOW. We will definitely be back. If you are looking for a light, delicious breakie this is definitely the place. And don't worry if you are looking for pancakes, Cinnabon and croissants you are in for a surprise. They do also have a private parking area should you have your car with you.
Olivia
Not much variety. But it's not an issue. The classic burger was cooked perfectly, and it was amazing. Would have been a 5 if it had a few more jalepenos
Danieljake
I have only great things to say about this restaurant.

I first saw it when visiting Origin next door, and we finally decided to pop in.

I'll be honest: the service here is probably the best I've had in Cape Town. While we looking for parking on Hudson road, one of the waiters came outside and offered us free underground parking.

As soon as we got out the car we were ushered to a table and greeted by all the staff.

I ordered the 'Long Black' which was basically an americano (it was 1.5 shots of espresso diluted with a touch of water). The shots were excellently pulled and the coffee still had a thick crema after dilution.

They use one of Espressolab's blends, which is fruity and flavorful.

The restaurant is connect to two shops (a clothing shop and a cosmetics store); each on a separate level of elevation.

The atmosphere here is very youthful and trendy, with many people at work on their laptops and devices.

I will undoubtedly come back here to try out their mouth watering burgers.
Finally tried this place. I was in Hudson road for work and intended to get coffee at origin but it was far too full and hit the loading bay for breakfast instead. I just grabbed the spicy eggs it was delicious. I'd definitely recommend it.
Amy Chen
Good service and tasty food. Very pricey though. The portions are small for what you pay. They have almond milk for the lactose intolerant which is great.
Eric Ngoie
The kind of place you can pop into for anything between a loud breakfast gathering, to a quiet breakaway for one.

Today I chose the latter and it hasn't disappointed. If you're not big into hot drinks like me, I'd recommend the green juice, hits all the spots (even the ones you didn't know existed!).
Kelly Rae Gifford
Exceptionally tasty food and so beautifully presented. Definetly a great spot for breakfast. The menu has great variety, something for everyone.
Kriyanka Naidoo
Really enjoyed my visit to this trendy, hipster café but parking was a huge source of frustration! The staff were super friendly but the service was a tad bit.
The drinks were amazing with the exotic teas and the decadent hot chocolate stealing the show.
The avo and mozzarella sandwhich was yummy and hearty and the skewer spedini was a generous portion with tasty fillings. The only disappointment was the salad which was suppose to have a hearty helping of warm vegetables which were sorely lacking.
They have a nice variety of pastries to choose from if you're keen for a light bite.
Overall, I would say this place has something for everyone and I will definitely be back to try out their breakfast menu.
Lesley Street
Really great place, the wait staff are really friendly, the atmosphere is welcoming and feels homey. The coffee is really good. The seared salmon salad was delicious!
Amanda Dovey
I stopped in for breakfast after hearing so many good things about this trendy hipster eatery in De Waterkant. The menu is delightful with a few choices for brunch that set them apart from the rest. I had the mushroom ragout with delicious coffee and the green juice. All the food was great + then did a little retail therapy in the Aesop shop.
The low carb options are all good for breakfast (just ask for your meal without toast) and the service was impeccable. Will definitely be back 👍🏻
Juante Wall
Our standard Sunday breakfast spot. Perfectly poached eggs and freshly squeezed juices in a delightful setting. I mean, what more do you need?
Aqeelah Hassim
Great breakfast spot with beautiful decor! I had the spicy scrambled eggs & gold juice. The eggs were perfectly spiced; the portion sizes of avo, tomato and feta were generous and the juice was delicious! Friendly and attentive service too 👍🏽

I booked at this place on Thursday for Sunday (mothers day). We arrived 8 mins late (after being told that we have a 15 minute interval before our table gets given away). When we did arrive, our table was given away. This was the first time I was seeing my mother after months on end, and I decided to give this place a try (a mistake I will not make again). I get that your food is a topic of conversation to foodies everywhere, but please try keep to your commitments to clients. Believe it or not, upholding a booking means a lot to most customers. Thank you for ruining mothers day. On the plus side, the manager felt bad for making us wait an additional 15mins after we arrived (still no table), so we got a free juice when we decided to leave. Cool, thanks.
Nic Hern
Probably one of the best breakfast spots I've visited in Cape Town this year! The food is amazing! I also enjoyed the coffee and fresh juices👍🏻 The service was great and my only concern was the layout of the tables which seemed a illogical😊 All in all a very pleasant breakfast experience!
Kerissa Naidoo
I tried The Loading Bay for breakfast this morning cute little place with a great breakfast menu. I had the Bircher muesli ,it was delicious! Had a cortado as well which was so yummy but wasn't impressed with their fresh pressed juices . Also had a little taste of their grilled cheese which was good.I would've scored them higher but the service was a downer, a little smile wouldn't hurt.
Jessica Stromin
Delish lunch and the perfect spot to get out of the office during my lunch break. Such trendy and beautiful interiors, with the shop on the upper level. Staff were super friendly and the vibe was relaxed, despite the smart/trendy vibe that the restaurant gives off. The food was excellent, and although the prices looked quite high, I was pleasantly surprised at the generous size of the portions. Had the Classic burger with truffle fries which I definitely recommend!

UPDATE: Returned to Loading Bay for breakfast - was not disappointed! I treated myself to the pancakes which were so light and fluffy and perfectly scrumptious! Everyone else was very happy with their meals too. Coffee is always great, and I can recommend the gold juice which I tried!
Saf
Absolutely amazing place ! But DEFINATELY would not head back here in a hurry because they serve bacon. It should be halal/kosher or keep separate kitchens ....
Jaynisha Patel
I almost want to say this is the best spot for breakfast in Cape Town. The inside is trendy and the service is friendly and helpful. The breakfast menu offers so much variety so there is something for everyone and it's hard to choose what to have. They even have a vegetarian section for breakfast.

The drinks are all exciting and tasty. I had the pour over coffee which is made with an interesting technique. My sister had white on ice which definitely was the stand out drink and is a must try! My mum had tea which she enjoyed.

To eat I had the mushrooms on sourdough and added a poached egg. The mushrooms were so well flavored and it was a great dish. My sister enjoyed the scrambled eggs which were creamy. My parents had the granola and the grilled cheese which were both really good.

Overall, everybody was pleased with their drinks and food. The highlights were definitely the mushroom on sourdough and the white on ice. Will definitely be going back for more.

The mark of an awesome eatery (at least in my books) is the following:
Clean restroom✔
Awesome service✔
Great coffee✔
Sublime food ✔
Happy customers ✔

The loading bay achieves these and more with flying colours. After running a 21km race earlier I thought it's my duty to reward myself with a luscious breakfast. This place comes highly recommended which was supported by the fact that it was super full and the friendly staff made me feel at home at the bar area.

I settled down to a very good cappuccino, a refreshing juice made of pineapple, green apple and mint and my highlight of the week...buttermilk pancakes with caramelized bananas and real maple syrup. (Don't know of too many places that serve real maple syrup - so big thumbs up). Small criticism was that I found the pancakes a tad rich but nothing like a little Greek yogurt couldn't fix to cut the richness.

Can't wait to go back there.
PS: the pancakes are only served on a Sunday, so you have been warned.
On Saturday morning the husband and i decided to head to a place where he could study, there might be free wifi and the coffee was good....so Loading Bay it was. I found the atmosphere relaxed but perhaps not super welcoming. The Gold juice was super yum as was Jaens flat white but i found the 'grilled' cheese sarmie to be lacking...it was incredibly oily and the cheese wasnt actually grilled...so if youre expecting the sarmie from Chef, just dont. We found the prices to be a little excessive given the portion size and rigidity of the menu. Look its an ok place but not a super favourite of mine. Oh and i dont take kindly to them adding the 10% tip already as if they just assume the service is up to scratch.

We landed here on a blistering hot day in the Mother City and were delighted by the vibe, diverse crowd, decor and especially fresh produce used in the meals. Yummy to say the least! The concept is interesting of having a retail section alongside the eating area.We will definitely be back over and over again.

Delicious but expensive and incredibly minuscule portions.... 5 of us ordered 5 meals , then re- ordered another 3 meals and a cinnamon bun which was old .... And very slow kitchen...

Went to The Loading Bay for brekkie and was delicious!! Had a rooibos tea and a strange but cool Tea Timing experience!! Pop passed with the folks or a friend for a yummy breakfast and a different tea experience!

Had a great lunch at The Loading Bay, I ordered the fried chicken in a bucket with truffle fries. Super delicious, I will be forever paying for it at the gym but it was so worth it. We had a very sweet waiter who encouraged my choice so I obviously liked her. My friend ordered a sandwich which she also enjoyed. I love the setting and atmosphere of the restaurant and cannot wait to go back and try the grilled cheese sandwich!

What an awesome relaxing lunch spot!

I love the fresh ingredients they use and the menu is so different.

We had a brilliant orange and watermelon juice to start our lunch. If you love tea you will love the way they serve it ;) see images.

Overall I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant and I will be back.

There are so many new restaurants and bars in Cape Town. It's crazy. And trust me, when your best friend from JHB visits to confirm that, you know you've hit the dining jackpot.

So one Saturday morning after a photo shoot, Jade and I dragged our baggy eyes to Loading Bay. This modestly sized department store is by no stretch of the imagination a drag and this was what we would soon found out. I had a cappuccino. For the life of me I can't remember if it was soy, but I remember cheating on my dietician that day so probably not.

I ordered a toasted cheese - of course. The toasted cheese was delicious. It was not a huge hunk of junk. Loading Bay is an upper end cafe. The kind that as an avid SATC (Sex and the City) fan I dreamed of grabbing coffee from as a teenager. So you can imagine the portion control in this place and the smile on my dietitians face knowing my cheats are moderate at best. Winning.

The ambience is great and the picture Jade captured really gives you a glimpse of what it's like. I loved how at one stage of our meal we saw a waitress grabbing a quick lunch at the table overlooking the neat Cape Town streets. I almost mistook her for a patron because even their outfits are stellar.

Definitely a must if you're in the mood to feel a little pre-fab. I'm eager to try their burgers as well.

The menu is as beautiful as the interior and the atmosphere will have you falling in love with Cape Town. What a special spot in the heart of a special city.

This is another favourite of mine. Love the vibe, food is good. The reason I go there is to buy the amazing clothes and Aesop products :) it's also central for me so I spend my Monday's over there and have a few meetings. The staff are good and polite and JP is a cool guy!

Fantastic, warm and elegant vibe. Our waiter was phenomenal, super well informed, very professional and more so over the top accommodating. The food was delicious, great combinations on a very select menu made for a very enjoyable evening.

After a 90 min switch class I was ready for a breakfast fit for a champion!! I was tempted by the croissants at the door but held strong and had crispy bacon , avo on rye with some extra cheddar. It was yummy simple and down perfectly . My friends husband enjoyed scrambled egg ( I'm really getting egg envy but just can't eat it ) with a spicy sausage ... Not sure what it was called but it was very tasty .. I got a small piece to try 😏. They have a great fresh juice selection but sadly no green tea . Great venue , dog friendly and they have a men's boutique with a selection of sexy men's wear and a very interesting men's skin range ... I love the packaging. Oh and we landed up sharing a cinnamon bun/ croissant thing and that was delicious 😁. Happy Sunday!!!

Loading Bay. What can I say? I really enjoy gourmet sandwiches and it's seldom that you find a place that actually serves them and serves them right. My friend Rebecca Hartleand I shared the really tasty slow braised beef gourmet sandwich and the chicken, bacon and Camembert samdwich. Both were delicious, but the braised beef takes the cake. The flavors were just on point. The staff are friendly and mighty fine if I can say so. It's situated in a beautiful spot and I definitely will be going back again soon.

Finally managed to get to the Loading Bay after hearing so much about it. We walked in and I immediately felt welcome. The waiters were friendly and service was quick. A friend and I split two sandwiches: a chicken, bacon and camembert and a slow braised beef. Both were so yum but I especially enjoyed the beef. It was so tender and full of flavor. The chicken for me was a bit bland but the bacon and cheese made up for it.
Coffee was quite lovely too. I'm usually weary of "trendy" places as I often feel like I'm being judged by the cool hipsters but the loading bay is not pretentious at all. The sun shining through the huge windows and the chilled vibe make it a great place to sit and work but I feel like they should have more plug points, otherwise I really enjoyed myself.

Brilliant!! Great Food, Vibe & Service!
Our Burgers were done to PERFECTION!
The vibe is super warm and chilled, the waiters were fantastic new everything on the menu and new and gave great suggestions to what we mite like!

Absolutely love going to Loading Bay. Everything from the setting to the service is perfect. Whether you are having a business meeting or taking time to catch up on some reading.

With great coffee from Espressolab you cant go wrong. A must if you need a spot to grab a coffee when you are in the city.

The loading bay has always been popular and it's not hard to see why. The coffee is great and the food is magnificent. The truffle fries and chicken strips are perfection and there is a clothing boutique for people who want to do a bit of shopping

Went here with my colleagues one morning before work. They only open at 8:30am but they were kind enough to open an hour early for us when we booked. The ambience in the store is wonderful, service was good and the food spectacular. We ordered a variety of things and were all fully satisfied with our choices. I highly recommend this spot for breakfast.

Tell someone

Ooohhh... Every time I walk in here I feel trendy - awesome masculine meets hipster vibe with seriously strong and tasty coffee. Predominantly male crowd, everyone well dressed, well spoken and down to earth eating burgers and drinking coffee. Great place to hide out in during the Cape Town winter rains or grey type days. Cool place to meet for a work lunch: relaxed, stylish, male sophistication. Great clothing store upstairs and rad bathrooms (that could be cleaned better). Would recommend the manly meat type dishes... My salad was less than overwhelming. Love that they always bring water (great European trait!) I will drop by again.

Due to yet another ridiculous 3hour long session of loadshedding, I decided to take my work somewhere with electricity, where better than a place called Loading Bay! Discovered something new in the intricate world of coffee: a Black Ice! This delicious concoction is an espresso with vanilla syrup (to add some sweetness but actually complements the bitterness of espresso nicely) then topped off with water, served over ice! Delicious! Especially for someone who strictly drinks their coffee Black.

I had the crispy bacon with avocado on sourdough toasted bread, added a poached egg. My egg was overcooked, but perhaps when I said medium, with runny in mind, this was my own fault. The bacon certainly was crispy and the avo fresh and the perfect ripeness. I recommend asking for mustard and olive oil to compliment the dish.

The service was on point, though I did feel a very little bit abandoned after a while but it was busy and only one main server and actually I was fine. Also, as a side consideration: 1 hour of wifi, with not even a paying alternative, is really hardly ideal, especially for someone escaping loadshedding!

Don't be fooled by the location here, it's in De Waterkant.
Anyway, this isn't a map review. The single most lekker thing about this place is their truffle spice/oil fries. I'm not sure if they're spiced or cooked in some sort of truffle oil, but hot damn! They. Are. Tasty. Paired with a burger, you can't go wrong. Their breakfasts are pretty rad also, sadly no lemurs poo coffee here for the lemurs poo enthusiasts.
One thing I'd suggest they change is that they should sell draught beer in draught beer sized glasses. There are 220ml and 360ml options, so rather order a bottle of you want normal sized beer. Then again, this is Cape Town so things need to be a little off centre I guess.
Thanks.

FOOD
I went here for a breakfast with friends and I really loved the choices on the breakfast menu. I ended up choosing the toasted coconut granola with full jersey cow yogurt and a toasted pear. It was really delicious, just wish there were two pieces of pear instead of one.

SERVICE
The service was okay. Our waitress was very friendly but not attentive at all. Luckily, we were in no rush.

AMBIANCE
Absolutely stunning interior. Inside the restaurant there is also a clothing store and a cosmetics section which I found really cool and different. I also love the location - in a super cool part of town.

My favourite place for breakfast, lunch, drinks and supper. Since day one I've enjoyed the New York, muscular feel to it. The service is phenomenal. These days I do a weekly stop for either their freshly squeezed juices, scrambled eggs, truffle fries or grilled chicken. AND of course they sell Monocle & Apartamento AND the best - Aésop!!!!

I actually rate loafing bay food at a 5 and the atmisphere at 3. Definitely the best burgers in Cape Town. Truffle fries were also great. Prices quite high but not prohibitive. The restaurant is very small with a clothing shop to the side which is a little strange. I heard the milkshakes were amazing so was a little dissapointed when they only had banana shakes on offer.

Service was phenomenal. Our waitron was very knowledgable about the menu.

I got introduced to the owner which is always the best part about going to small restaurants like this, you get to meet the brains behind the concept!

The scrambled egg was the BEST scrambled I have ever had at a restaurant. Perfectly seasoned and deliciously creamy.

The coffee options are unique and they have blends that are not readily available elsewhere. They are divine!

Definitely worth a visit, or 5 ;)

Arguably the best burgers in town on a Thursday evening. Impressive, small wine list. I hear the truffle fries are a must. End off with a signature milkshake.

Always good food, great coffee, amazing fresh juices and friendly service. The Aesop products upstairs are brilliant - if you happen to wonder up ;)

Excellent coffee. Food choice is limited but excellent. The breakfasts can tend to be a bit pricey for what you get. But definitely worth a visit.

I discovered this beautiful restaurant-come luxury apparel shop-come cosmetic store during the beginning of this year. Walking inside, I felt like an excited kitten in her new home. So many amazing things to see and try, I couldn't understand how I hadn't heard about this spot before. Greeted with smiles from the staff that appear to come from parents with pedigree genes, I couldn't wait to take a seat and see what Loading Bay (LB) had to offer.

Over the past 4 months, I have popped into LB around 3 or 4 times, enjoying each visit. Their food was lovely, their service was great, and just the over-all feel was warm and homey. It pains me that the visit I chose to do my review on was in fact my worst visit to this beaut space.

Seeing posts on Facebook and Instagram recently, I saw that they had a new menu. Obviously me being me, I had to follow my call of duty and try this new menu. So off I went, expecting great things.

When we arrived, the restaurant was absolute chaos. Everyone was everywhere. None of the waiters seemed to have noticed that we'd even walked in, so for 2 pretty tall people, you could have sworn we were literally the size of cats, munchkin cats. Eventually I took matters into my own hands, and asked a waiter if we could sit at the only table available.

As sad as it is, it often takes one little thing to ruin and magnify a bunch of other things. After another wait, we were eventually handed some menus. Browsing through it, my fur wasn't exactly blown away with what was on offer, but I decided a grilled half chicken sounded pretty great.

After yet another longer than necessary wait, our food arrived. I'm not going to say much other than, I love chicken, but I don't love LB's chicken. Half of it was succulent, while the rest of it was almost too dry to swallow. Upon telling this to the waitress, I got a reply of, "I'm sorry, but it's a new menu." Seriously? You've cat to be kitten me right meow. I am no chef or restaurant owner, but I sure as hel know that that's no excuse.

Grumpy cat aside, LB is truly an amazing place. I'm in love with their simple and raw urban decor, and if I were a guy, I'd kill to wear the apparel that they have on sale. I visited NYC 2 years ago, and this was the first place I'd come across back home that actually made me feel like I was back in the City again. It really does have such a cool cat feel to it.

If I've put you off of the food, I can't put you off of their coffee and freshly squeezed juices. Those are to die for. So grab a cup and chill on one of their stools outside while enjoying the city life around you, and the eye-candy behind you.
