Review Joon - Cape Town Central

Benjamin Himes
Was here for their reopening with the new menu, and was really delighted by it. The atmosphere is very chill, almost homey, but the food was the shining star. We’ve been looking for a nice date night place in Muize for a while and the options have been limited, so the revamping of Joon is a welcome change. The charred olives were absolutely delicious, and the Sirloin with Chermoula was perfect. The lamb was also quite tasty, as was the plain flatbread, but the steak and the artichoke were the standout items. I did give four stars for service because it was quite slow, but I attribute this to this being their reopening, and am positive that that will change shortly. Regardless very friendly staff!

Joon has been rebranded - Joon Mediterranean Muizenberg - and what an amazing end result. Beautiful ambience and same personal customer care and attention. Our table chose a number of dishes all of them receiving rave reviews. Best fish I have had in years

We had a pizza and kombucha here. Enjoyed ourselves in this super friendly cafe.

Thankyou Joon for creating a lovely relaxed atmosphere in which I could celebrate my birthday with my family on Thursday 19th Oct.& made my day so much special. Your delicious mezze platters,a few add on's & desert were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks to June for assisting my 91yr old Mom to the rest room hand in hand. So very kind of you. I do hope to be back sometime soon to enjoy other menu items that smelled so good. Kind regards Vanessa

Favorite place with most delicious food, definitely for people who appreciate good service and food, and who ate looking for gems away from the madding crowd

Wonderful vibe in a street with many attractions. Great, relaxed service and an interesting menu made breakfast a delightful experience. A fan or two to battle the heat and occasional fly would put it over the top.

Absolutely lively local spot that has just been revamped. The new Mediterranean menu is delightful and perfect for warm Muizenberg afternoons.

Great vegan friendly pizza, tasteful coffee with almond milk and awesome service. All you could be looking for in a good restaurant, you'll find at joon. It is open for community activities and filled with a loving atmosphere. Thanks Joon

Great little gem in Old Muizenberg. My second visit to this coffee shop. Perfect for coffee meets and breakfast. I had a tasty scrambled eggs and avo breakfast with hot chocolate. Friendly and engaging staff and owner. Thank you - definately on my to repeat list. I rate this 8/10

Brilliant! Absolutely nothing to fault. Been twice now and both times great service as a support cast to really good food. Quality, fresh ingredients and great flavour combinations. Just absolutely one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. My pet peeve is paying for food where I think, "I could have done this better", Joon is not a place where one feels that way at all. Will be back. Thank you!

Our dinner was superb to say the least. Freshest ingredients used and the most delicious flavours. Joon never dissapoints. Rashid was our waiter for the evening, he is so pleasant, helpful and he has a smile that is negotiating currency.

June and her team welcome you with the hugest hugs! Everyone is family when you walk through those doors. The pizzas are amazing and you have to try the cheesecake! Best spot in Muizenberg!

The beast service and the yummiest crispy thin based pizza ever. Do yourself a favour and order an Under the Bridge + Anchovies only from Joon.

Always good ... can't wait for the Annual Long Table 😍

What a great coffee shop in the heart of Muizenberg village. We were a fairly large group that arrived unannounced. We were tended to very efficiently for great coffee and freshly baked croissants. You can choose to sit indoors or outdoors for your breakfast or lunch. There is also delicious cakes for afternoon tea. There are toilet facilities.

I often pass this little buzzing spot and after missing breakfast and lunch, I stuck my head in and ordered a simple toasted cheese, bacon and tomato. Well let me tell you... Mind. Blown. The most delish sandwich ever for 30 bucks. I will definitely be back to try the rest if the menu.

Best pizza in Cape Town. Amazing chocolate cake. Wonderful ambiance. Perfectly encapsulates the rustic charm of olde Muizenberg

The location is unique. The service is excellent. My lady and I love to just sit and chat. Try the breakfast menu, lovely particularly the French Toast. Enjoy. Bruce and Letha

Went to Joon yesterday for the first time - I had cappuccino and french toast with black pepper strawberries for breakfast - scrumptious! Lovely cosy atmosphere and a really cool vibe.

Unpretentious, honest eatery in a quiet corner of Muizenberg, run by real people and serving good food. Currently my go-to place in all of the False Bay coast.

Our Muizenberg Craft Share Group had such a lovely morning on Joon's stoep. We were spoilt with lots of cuppacinos and croissants. Wonderful welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, friendly service and great food. We will be back!

Joon has become Brian's and my favourite place for a 'date night' ... we love the food, the music, the vibe, the friendly faces, the hostess, the staff, poetry nights ... let's just say we LOVE JOON!

Very quite and nice place to have food and enjoy your time. The pizzas are very good. Highly recommended if you come to Muizenberg. Pleasing and very good hospitality. I love this place.

Joon has created a completely enchanting cafe here - which has quickly become a hub for the Muizenberg community - hang here and you will move to vinyl grooves and live jives and feel the heartbeat of the Village 'hood'.. Joon and her team are a treasure - wonderful, attentive, personal and engaging - the freshly cooked food is quite excellent, and in addition to the awesome Pizzas the constantly changing specials, cooked fresh according to seasons and what Joon and Lindsay have each day, never fail to delight. Joons in the heart of the historic 'Berg' , a short few blocks from the famous seafront and beach but a world apart.. Come experience one of those rare gems around the world where you can feel instantly at home and welcome.. and leave feeling part of the family... as well as full of great food.

Loved the vibe and of course the food !

Best restaurant in Muizenberg! It's like coming home

Best pizzas and the most delicious home made soups! My favourite local restaurant by far!

Love this place, love the people. An asset, right in the heart of Muizenberg

his is one of the most authentic little spots I’ve visited. We went there for the Village Vibe event and I was completely overwhelmed by the friendly atmosphere and the pizzas were perfect! All the staff were so helpful and Joon herself is an inspiration. I can’t wait to go back.

The village favourite breakfast
The coffee is excellent. There's a 35 minute+ wait but the homely charm and good conversation makes the minutes melt away.

The food arrived looking amazing, the thick slides toasted white bread (there is no other option.. or at least no other option was presented) was delicious with the homemade marmalade and butter.

The eggs were well poached and we're creamy scrambled goodness. I appreciated that they under-seasoned the eggs so I could add as much salt as I wanted.

The problem with widely available commercial bacon (which I assume this was), is that it lacks any real bacon flavour. The mushrooms were well cooked and earthy but it just felt like they were missing something, same goes for the grilled tomatoes, they had a tomotoe flavour but I think a dash of balsamic to them would have added a different dimension.

But after the meal you sit back and see the life of the town pass you by, this is truly a place to come and experience authentic small town culture and friendships.

An overly critical person like myself should be ignored if all you want is to lose yourself in the heartbeat of the town.

However the meal needed more of a flavour kick.

Service was good (but don't come here if you are in a hurry). Ambiance was incredible and the small town charm... Priceless.

Yummy yummy yummy veggie options available at Noon 😍 If you don't go there for the delicious food then please do visit for the experience! So many different people gathering in 1 place. It's amazing!

Well-made, unpretentious food in a cosy location. Excellent breakfast, fresh juices and coffee. The Village Favourite is an absolute winner with the most amazing bread. The omelettes are also delicious.
I must have missed the but. Joon's Three Amigos pizza is the best open pie this side of Sicily. It's all about ze zomato. Even my son is easily lured from the excesses of the City Bowl for a simple fix from Joon. The specials of the day are prepared by the gracious propriertress in the quirky kitchen, and are without fail hearty and tasty. As with a proper little bistro, it's tempting to wind your way to this lazy pleasure in Palmer Road every single day. Goodson and Faith is your magic incantation.

Joon could easily score full marks. Best service, great vibe, family friendly, absolute homeliness and good food. That's the "but", the food is "good."

Love this local cozy spot. They have delicious pizza, great staff and an awesome interior. And just across the road there is a place that hosts great live music.

Highly recommended

As a local Muizenbergie this is my favourite restaurant in the village! Great for pizza and a morning coffee. Friendly village vibes in Palmer Rd.
Samantha Tame Whittaker
Warm, welcoming and intimate family owned restaurant. The small kitchen is exposed to the customers while the owner cooks up the most magnificent pizzas and pastas and other healthy alternative specials. The wine selection is small but what's great is they allow you to bring your own drinks and don't charge corkage.
This was one of my favorite dining experiences in Cape Town.
Andrew Raeburn
Unashamedly unpretentious, good, wholesome, honest food. It's small, intimate and cozy, with good food odors coming from the open kitchen. Staff are "on it" with genuine; "I like to work here and make good money" smiles on their faces!
What more could you ask for?
Well.... an expanded menu and a better wine list! And definitely NO smoking near the front entrance or the outside tables.
The Restuarant evolves beautifully and their is always new stimuli to keep the locals returning. An little gem in the village!

Love discovering places such as Joon- unashamedly unpretentious, eclectic, happy staff, passionate owner, vinyl tunes...

Popped in for an afternoon cappuccino and some cheesecake (which was such a massive piece that I asked for half as take -away). Amy Winehouse was belting our some killer tunes from her back to black album. Coffee was good, cheesecake even better. Had a lovely chat to the owner, could sense this is her pride and joy. Their pizzas are legendary and I'll certainly be back to sample these...afterall it's in my neighbourhood and situated smack bang in the village surrounded by other interesting places.

As an aside, not a fan of dogs in a restaurant, not bashing animals here but just don't get that practice.
Darryn Cuff
I could sit here all day, drink coffee, eat spicy chicken sandwiches and do some people watching. The food is insane and the service is great. Best place in muizenberg, if not the entire peninsula.
Greg Paton
Best little eatery in town. Great Pizza with thin crunchy crust. Highly recommended.
Good personal service and a great vibe in the laid back Palmer Road area

Joon is a true hidden gem in the heart of Muizenberg! We had a lovely brunch here yesterday. I ordered the muesli and yoghurt, which sounds pretty simple, but believe me, the flavours were great. The muesli wasn't too sweet and the strawberries were perfect. Everyone at the table was happy with their meals and I loved the cute, quirky ambience of the restaurant. Avoid the tourist strip and head to the secret back streets of Muizenberg for a truly heartfelt meal.

Had a lovely pizza -Joon- with butternut, pesto and caramelized onions which had a super thin and crispy crust. I love the quaint cafe vibe and the casual atmosphere - old wooden tables and benches- and good music! Great coffee too.. Good value.
Vaughan Coulson
The music here is outstanding ! They play all my favorite classics. The food is great - I had the muesli, yoghurt and strawberries which was very fresh and tasty. The menu is a bit limited, which is not a bad thing. The food they make is made well. I'll be back to drink coffee and listen to the music !

To summarise the Joon full breakfast in three words, I'd have to say "simply the best". To expand on that I'd add that it's the best value breakfast I've experienced, from the subtle pre-toasting of the olive brushed home baked bread, to the sea salted, succulent mushrooms, cripy bacon and freshly squeezed orange juice. A gastronomic delight.
Gareth Dahl
I love coming to muizenberg when I'm in Cape Town, but always find myself eating at the same places on the strip along the beachfront. As much as I love these local hangouts, I will never return now that I've found joon tucked away in the old village of muizies. The food is great and the staff are amazing! I

A colleague said to me the other day that the ambience and atmosphere at Joon reminded her of a quaint café in Guernsey in the English Channel. The food is a gastronomical delight, ranging from delicious breakfasts, different types of sandwiches (the Cuban pulled pork is a must!), pizzas and specials such as a really tasty curry. A great place for family and friends to meet regularly. (However, bring your own wine). Thumbs up all the way to JOON!
