Flew to Cape Town to get married. The beautiful country of South Africa was the only place in the world that would let me marry my same-sex partner and would give a visa to a Thai national. (Shame on you, USA...I couldn't get married in my own country.)
We had our first dinner as a married couple at Café Manhattan. Great vibe, charming and enthusiastic waiter, good food. Nicholas couldn't do enough to make our night special. Much appreciated.
We enjoyed our visit very much and are planning to return to see more of the RSA and her warm and lovely citizens. We'll be sure to go back to Café Manhattan.
One of the best spots in Cape Town. Absolutely loved the place! The service was amazing. Went there with a friend for the 2-4-1 special for both burgers and drinks! Heaven on earth! Nothing beats specials when you’re running on a student budget. The burger was very nice, a very large portion with big MEAT😏
With the burger comes sides, fries and onions rings!! Two sides!!!!! I’m sold! Aaaaaand they have a fire place that I thoroughly enjoyed on that “winter” night! Definitely a place to visit
Not sure if they have this all the time but they have two for one drinks if you get there early enough on a Monday. We wanted somewhere warm and cozy but were reluctant as vegetarians. The falafel burger was incredible! So delicious and exactly what we wanted! Sometimes you just need a big saucy, crunchy burger with yummy sides. Worth a visit and shoutout to our waiter James for being awesome.

The staff is great! The burgers are juicy and flavorful! I love the selection of cocktails and wine they have. It’s a fun place with fun people. It’s a gay establishment but as a straight person I had tons of fun! Love it! My friend had a milkshake and he says that was great too!
Visited this restaurant on New Year's Eve for dinner, it was amazing! The food, the Location, setting, atmosphere and service were all great.
I think the menu was limited because of NYE but, more options would've been great. But from the House beer, Texan wings and rib basket we ordered, those were great.

I’ve been here a few times mainly for drinks. Over the years it has been the go to starting place for a night out and there had always been a nice buzz about the place. The few times I did eat food it was mainly of the burger variety and for the price disappointing. Maybe Manhattan is going through a slump or it just needs a concept tweak to keep it fresh but I have noticed a drop in vibe here.

It's very seldom that you find a restaurant in Cape Town that is consistent which automatically makes it one of my favourite restaurants hands down!!
We often pop into restaurants on a daily basis and it becomes a problem when you tend to frequent the same restaurant three times a week, my problem, clearly not theirs!!
Upon arrival you are greeted with the friendliest yet feisty staff that'll help you chose that fab cocktail or shot just to start off your day, be it 11am or 15h00!!
One of my favorite dishes is the Salt and Pepper squid! I can honestly say that I've tried it at different locations and no one, and I do mean no one, does Salt & Pepper squid the way they do! Fried and served with fries with a chili and aioli sauce, it is squid heaven, you may just order a second!
Another favorite is the Dirty Texan Burger & my oh my was I not disappointed!! Drizzled in a chilli chocolate sauce, medium done, sizzling, it just tantalizes the taste buds and to top it off with another favorite, a Cosmpolitan
Can you honestly ask for anything more delicious? So pop down to Manhattans, it's a decadently delicious experience you won't forget.

This place is wild ! I take my hat off to the waiters/waitresses who work here, you really need to be on your A game amongst all the people and the drinks and the noise. Our waitress was first class. Never forgot a thing and we got everything we ordered. If you go, on a night such as gay pride, you will understand why I say this. The nachos are out of this world. I don't have nachos. Ever. It's always so dry because the bottom nachos don't have cheese for it. Manhattan ensures all your nachos are coated with beautifully melted cheese. The ribs are juicy and delicious. Perfect food for a crazy night full of alcohol. (Excuse the pic quality. As I said, crazy night)
Dead centre in Cape Town’s De Waterkant, Cafe Manhattan is the place to be! It’s a hotspot for cocktails and the local hangout. This little spot has a big reputation and is extremely popular. Weekends you have to be prepared to wait a bit as it can get packed and service obviously slower. Yes, it has a vibe, yes, it has amazing cocktails and light foods to fill the spot, but not a full restaurant experience though.
Add them to your list when you want to experience a cocktail bar in true local fashion. Try to get a table outside as their verandas have great street views.
Another top place in Cape Town. It feels like there's a good restaurant every corner and the Manhattan is definitely another great option. Really great and very good value. For a change we had fish - battered fish - and it was great. The surroundings are really nice as well in Waterkant.

I come here often for a drink after yoga (strange that I've never managed to take a photo of ANY of these drinks) but yesterday we came for a tiny celebration and had the most amazing service (thank you, Kyle) and divine food. I'd recommend it to anyone even vegetarians as their veggie burger is really great as well! When you come take a moment to appreciate the effort in the deco, like the bar stools and antiques on the walls.

The Madame Zingara brand has really taken over Cape Town with it's quirky eateries, and Cafe Manhattan lives up to the food and decor expectations very well. The waiters are funky and friendly (and apparently shirtless on occasion, but we missed that unfortunately) and the outdoor seating area is a must on bright summer's day.
The food is divine. We had the Calamari and Feta salad which was so good. The calamari was tender and the sauce was so tasty. The Dirty Texan Burger uses their famous chilli chocolate sauce which is interesting, but could use a bit more of a wow factor (like the limited edition Belgium chocolate burger from Rocomamas, where you could really taste the chocolate quite strongly). I also didn't find it spicy at all and it needed a few more toppings. But overall it wasn't a bad burger. My boyfriend had the Chicken Burger which was really good, the jalapeños and creamy Mayo made it quite worthwhile.
Definitely a spot to put on your to do list when you're in Cape Town, whether it's for some tasty food or for a wild drink (grab a saddle at the bar for an awesome time :P).
Great environment. There is not a big diversity on the menu but the hamburguers were truly tasty. Good meat and fresh ingredients. Also a great place to have a drink with friends.

For as long as I can remember, I've always loved coming here. Food is 👌🏼. Cocktails are 👍🏼. And not to mention the hottest (I meant friendliest 😝) staff around! Definitely the go-to spot for a 'Friday after work' meet up with friends.
Had the organic sirloin the last time I visited, with the pepper sauce. Cooked just the way I like it, and absolutely loved the onion rings on the side. Their southern fried burger is also a must-have.
I am a big fan of the burgers at Cafe Manhattan, and they're up there among my favourite burger joints in Cape Town. Their mushroom sauce is delicious and so are their sides. They have some good vegetarian options which is always great.
Shirtless waiters for the win! And the location. And the food. And the prices. It's pretty much pub food, but with a laid back cowboy feel to it. It's often referred to the Spur for grown ups which I think describes it best!

Stumbled upon this gem whilst looking for another little cafe and my oh my, regret was not on the menu!
I had the virgin daiquiri with one of the best lemon meringues I've tasted! Perfect texture, not too overpowering and I received a scoop of ice cream with it which was different but lovely! My partner had the caramel chocolate brownie and he loved it as well.
It's the kind of place you go to to hang out with a group of friends with great music and exceptional service. And to top it all off the vibe is just great!

Very friendly (and flamboyant) staff! The drinks were great as well and the specials sound great. However, I opted for the seafood options and that was definitely a wonderful choice! Tasted fresh and delicious!
A big shout out to Alex our server last night who magically appeared whenever one of us needed a new drink or more food. Terrific mist cooled stoop and neighbourhood views of happy people strolling by. Really appreciated the good selection of virgin cocktails while my friends appreciated the slutty mojitos and the tequila.
Enjoy the vibe this cafe restaurant has during the day and evening. While the menu may be limited, the food on the menu is delicious, perfect portion, and at affordable prices. I've been twice to the restaurant and find the service is consistent. Love the bar menu! Interesting shooters to try out.

Probably my favourite out of the Madam Zingara group and that's saying a lot because I really love Bombay Bicycle Club and Sidewalk Cafe.
Cafe Manhattan has a wonderful character; decorated with quirky touches like old wall clocks, vintage telephones and shelves of books. Upstairs, you can relax, drink and smoke on a balcony away from the diners but still see all the goings on.
The cocktails are fantastic and well priced and then there's the food. They have some of the best burgers in town and their salads are huge and full of delicious things like calamari and Danish feta. (Or you can have a salad in a wrap).
I had the fish tacos yesterday with all the Latina trimmings like lemon, guacamole and sour cream. It was melt in your mouth magical.
Service has been excellent every time I have gone, even when it's just for drinks. We had a group of 20 yesterday at lunch and the food came out without a hitch, all correct and at the same time. No easy feat. Thanks for making upmarket feel welcoming.
Came here for only a quick coffee and treat but ended up staying for hours. The service was so friendly and cheerful, it was almost weird, the Cocktails were delicious and the cakes were really yummy as well.

Such a vibey and fun place! It's in the middle of the trendy waterkant area with a Great bar and restaurant area. The restaurant has been revamped by Madame Zingara and they've done a great job. The service was very good and there were a lot of people sitting outside enjoying the view of the mountain. My family got the southern chicken (delicious), blue cheese stuffed burger (delicious), the Hawaiian (good) and the falafel (not so great). My chicken was cooked to perfection and was so flavorsome. We arrived in time for happy hour for some pretty potent marguerites.

Beautiful evening on a chilled Tuesday night, restaurant was humming. Great cosmopolitan vibe, sat outside and watched the world go by. I had the charred fillet with the mad pepper sauce and double fried fries. For desert the amazing pumpkin pie with ice-cream. Great service, food and company.

Randomly chosen restaurant, and it did not disappoint! Dirty texan burger with chilli chocolate was mouthgasmic. My friend had the southern fried chicken burger which looked absolutely delicious. He enjoyed it. Shared a choc nut sundae, which was really delicious. And our waiter, Thando, was very attentive and funny and engaging. Really excellent service. I'll be back again, with more people

Met friends at Cafe Manhattan for dinner on a Monday evening. This coincided with their two-for-one burger special. I had the beef burger and was presented with a big, juicy, cheese burger that ticked all the right boxes along with a fresh and sumptuous Greek salad. Their house wine selection is from Spier Wines which were delicious.
The only down side was that it was that the music was a little loud at times which did hamper the conversation slightly but otherwise ambience was vibrant and inviting - I especially like the saddles at the bar.
Spectacular decor, the menu is full of unique dishes that are delectable, the atmosphere is great and the service is wonderful... From the host's greeting and seating to the laughs you are guaranteed to have with your waitron! Would recommend thus establishment to anyone! Might even help them to broaden their minds a bit ;)

Although I did have a bad experience a few months ago when the patty on my burger was pretty tough and seemed overcooked. Didn't complain though...must have just been a bad night. The newly revamped Café Manhattan is a result of The Madam Singara chain expanding to the Waterkant. The outré spaces we have become accustomed from them have made a detour through a dude ranch. The established mostly gay crowd is now sitting on western style saddles and enough horse tack to start a mounted cavalry sitting around bar. Outside a verandah can take in the street scenes and use the outdoor space to smoke, while serious diners are seated in a large room reminiscent of a bunkhouse.
The diner style food is not only well portioned; it is tasty and beats many similar of its type. The fried chicken and slaw was well breaded and crispy and moist. It is deceptive as the zinc bucket in which it comes in easily fits the ½ chicken (in pieces), chips and slaw. With determination I managed to finish as I was not going to throw it away or risk the crisp be lost in a doggy bag. The range of burgers is what one could expect from an up market restaurant, the firm favourite was what I term a breakfast burger, here named a “Train wrecker” a humongous surprisingly well flavoured combination of breakfast food in a bun. I could almost hear the arteries clog. For a bun free alternative have an American hanger with the addition hash browns and eggs.
The weekend we were there was no place for a mouse. Book and the next available table is yours otherwise settle down for a long cattle drive.

What else? Atmosphere is laid back and friendly. Sit at the bar to meet other people. Sit at your own table and chat to your waiter. Service can be slow for this very reason...

A favourite place for a late Sunday afternoon snack! The burgers are great and atmosphere relaxed. Try to get a table outside and enjoy the 2 for 1 cocktail special.
Very good vibe and super nice waiters. Food is good as well. Great steaks and salads. The grilled calamari one is a favorite. I enjoy the burger as well. Reservation is a must though as it may get quite crowded. If you want a peaceful dinner, avoiding going on weekends. But if you want to have drinks, have fun and party, that's the place for you.
Always the best restaurant i have ever gone too. I was with a friend for the first time there and they welcomed me like i am a regular guest, which was good and it made me relax and felt involved like am part of the term. The waiter who was serving us was on point, he was always there when we needed him. He helped us with food menu recommendations as well beverages, mmmmmmm the food, damn it was delicious

Impressed beyond belief. I called in this morning to order breakfast for myself and two of my colleagues. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the guy that answered the phone. His telephone etiquette while taking my order is next level. Manhattan should be the benchmark. All the dishes were described to me over the phone in such detail it made me hungry all over again :) then I was asked for my contact details and asked a very unusual question "Would you like me to give you a call 5 minutes before your food is ready?"

Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We had the squid (Delicious), Southern fried chicken (very good). This is THE place to go in Cape Town for pumpkin pie - it truly is a work of pastry art. Highly recommend to all. They also do a mean cosmo, well worth trying.

The buffalo wings were a hit, (it comes with chips) nice as a light meal rather than a starter if you still intend to have one of their delicious (giant) burgers served with (a mountain of) chips. Such a great place, the decor is amazing! Love the leather cowboy theme (thinking that and the rainbow flags are a lovely hint as to what they do after hours) and massive MEAT neon sign! This is one of Madame Zingara's best. I absolutely love the place. So much so I booked it for the following evening for family and friends and indulged in the SIDEWALK BURGER! *drool*

Straight away you can see it is different, the decor giving a cowboy feel. We had the chicken burger which was great! Too many great burger options, will have to go again to try other burgers. The combinations is different and delicious!
Visit this funky and friendly place for some awesome cowboy food, great wings, onion rings, chips, corn cakes, etc. nice beers too. Great prices. Friendliest staff ever. Was such a joy spending two evenings here on a visit recently.
Fun!!! Colorful, crowded, classic bar food. I got the vegetable platter which was giant and not just the stereotypical healthy vegetables, also had onion rings, fries all sorts of stuff. The milkshake was good too. Also got a salad, although wasn’t a fan of the taco shell bowl they put the salad in to be honest… nevertheless, still a great place.
Lovely place we came across. Super friendly staff all around. Cool outdoor dining even in a light rain. Great for people watching. The place is large enough (without feeling huge) to host a bar (with tv), dining area and outdoor seating.

I'm told that lots of gay bars and clubs in Cape Town have closed down. Cafe Manhattan remains sands I can understand why.
They have a great vibe, super friendly staff and great music. I actually think the music there was better than the club we went to later.
Had a hilarious incident where the top of my pepper mill came off and covered my potato wedges in pepper. Our waitress didn't bat an eyelid, took it away and brought us a fresh plate of food.
Great spot for a drink and/or meal. Service is super-friendly and engaging taking a minute to really connect. We shared a Greek salad then had a filet and ribeye. Both steaks were perfect medium rare. The joint is very LGBT friendly and the decor reflects that in a very fun way. Convivial times at the bar too of that’s what you’re looking for.
I had the beef bobotie spring rolls with a chutney dipping sauce and salsa. The beef was fabulous as well as the chutney. My husband ordered the ostrich, but they misunderstood and brought him a steak. Even though my husband insisted that it was fine, they made up for the mistake with a free drink. The steak was so-so, but the mushroom sauce was delicious. Our server, James, was exceptionally nice and visited with us for a few minutes.
To me this is one of the most stable landmarks in Die Waterkant. It's great to have a venue that doesn't change much. Always the same friendly service, well priced drinks and good food.

Super cute place in the center if the city, there are seats inside but also on the terrace outside. We ordered some cocktails and they were pretty good and well done! Good atmosphere and kind staff, perfect if you want to spent couple of hours in a nice place! I recommended it for sure!

From walking in to receiving the freshly made meals, this spot has been an absolute experience. Worthwhile popping by and ordering their longisland iceteas and enjoying the energetic atmosphere and staff. The jalapeno poppers and chicken strips are a bomb!
