Review Skinny Legs Luxury Cafe - Cape Town Central

Drikus Oosthuizen
Lovely spot with one of the best menus, in my opinion. Clearly a lot of effort has been put into the meals, presentation and the overall atmosphere at this place. I've been here twice now and ordered 2 very different meals each time. Both were absolutely worth it and I recommend asking the staff for advice if unsure. Both recommendations have been amazing so far. The staff are very friendly and they offer a waiting station if tables are not available. Recommend booking in advance if possible.

Cute little Breakfast/ Brunch bistro in the heart of the City. On-Street Parking is available. Slightly pricier than your standard breakfast, however the Taste and quality is worth every penny! Staff was extremely friendly and is extremely polite despite being very busy around lunch time. Restaurant setup was very simple but was not too cramped allowing for a relaxing brunch experience. Definitely will recommend.

Really loved the place. Food was excellent the poached egg perfect. The banana bread delicious. It has few seats inside and additional seating outside. So on warm days no problem with finding a seat.

Great food, awesome choice! The freshly squeezed orange juice was soo yummy, and I had the best flapjacks I’ve ever had in Cape Town ( trust me I had a lot!) Unfortunately the outside sitting area is right by a very busy road, which makes it quite noisy, but it also gives you the big city vibe :-)

I can’t get enough of this place. I am a fan of breakfast for any meal of the day and Butter do it sooo well. The food is amazing and even though their space is small, the staff is always accommodating which is a rare thing in the CPT restaurant scene. A firm fav is the breakfast wrap and their scones but to be fair, I haven’t given the rest of their menu a competing chance 🙈. The service could be better but the good nature of the staff makes up for it and of course the delish food. Did I mention the mimosas!!! Made and priced well.

Beautiful little restaurant/cafe. The staff are super friendly. My 1st time I was there and I was offered choices of meals that wasn't on the menu which was great because I didn't want a big meal. It's quite cozy and the outside area is great for summer days.. I wasn't entirely impressed with my sandwich but I will definitely go back to try other meals and I'm sure this food review will get more stars... The location is great, seeing that I might be more frequently in town. So they walking distance from where I must be... parking will definitely be a problem in the week but weekends, not so much

Deserving of its position on all the “Top 10 Breakfast Spots in CT” lists. Intimate space, with limited seating. FANTASTIC COFFEE - all four cortados were perfect. Breakfast was simple, elegant, well presented and delicious. We had a coffee while we waited for a table. Butter fills up pretty quickly so expect to wait for a table. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR BREAKFAST

This was one of the best breakfasts we have ever had in our life! The service was phenomenal, they were so kind and made us feel welcome! Their homemade sourdough, fresh ingredients, and incredible options were unmatched. The lattes (coffee and chai) were some of the best we have ever had! The homemade sourdough toast with butter was true to its name and truly melted in your mouth. Could not recommend this place highly enough!

BUTTER is a great place to have breakfast, brunch or Lunch. They opened in May 2021. They specialise in All Day Breakfast. I discovered this great cafe randomly on Google maps while looking for breakfast places. It did not disappoint. The staff is very friendly. It seems to be a popular place to have breakfast in Cape Town, as it gets busy during late morning to lunch hours. I had the hashbrown stack which consist of hash brown, poached egg, avocado , bacon and cream cheese. It was a very delicious breakfast item. I also had one flapjack, with syrup. It fluffy, flavourful and sweet. To drink I had a nice fresh orange juice with ice and an americano. I definitely recommend this cool breakfast spot. Definitely will be coming back there again when back in Cape Town.

Cute little breakfast spot! Service was excellent and attentive, food was delicious and fresh. I had the Nutella French toast which hit the spot perfectly. Will definitely be back :)

Had the best French toast I have had in many years around the world! ; the staff were very good and the coffee was great! Good location and excellent ambience.

One of my favourite local hangouts! I love the minimal decor and calming atmosphere. You can find me there regularly with a cappuccino, and a bowl of their "Porridge from the Gods" or the "Lumberjack" sandwich.

It’s my favorite Café in the world ❤️ Nothing more to add. 😌😌

Really wholesome, delicious healthy food...just YUM.

Finally managed to pop in at this quaint cafe for breakfast, I love the look and feel of the place.
I opted for the poached eggs, mushrooms, avocado and rye bread along with some mint tea and honey.Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy the rye bread as much as I’d hoped though, the overall dish was good and the tea wasn’t too bad either..I’d recommend this spot for a healthy breakfast..worth a try

I popped in for lunch, I had no idea what to order or what to hope for but the lovely girl/waitress behind the counter was all too accommodating & helpful. She recommended a salad based on dietary requirements, I naughtily decided to have the pasta salad with peas, feta and yoghurt. It was unique and delicious! I would have liked some more! I saw some interesting looking smoothies walk passed... everything is rather miniature sized...and I am a small girl...

Pitched up for lunch here with a craving for soup. Soup of the day was green beans and almond. However, I did not want bread/toast and asked for a side of quinoa instead. Liked the sound of their mushroom side dish, and added that to my order.

Boy am I glad that I did the above alterations. I would’ve left hungry post a rather bland tiny portion of soup. Reached for salt, pepper and then added both my quinoa and mushrooms to the soup. The quinoa helped bulk up the dish and the mushrooms gave much needed flavour. Those mushrooms! Wow! So so good! Now I kinda wish I ordered the toast with just those mushrooms.

So to make the ‘perfect’ soup set me back R130! 😳

Gracious shoutout to the waitress for being patient with my order and my many alterations. She was so sweet.

But I highly doubt I’ll return.

The owner and daughter are lovely, but the young waitress needs a talking to. She was outright rude and even rolling her eyes! The food is always good and they have a good drinks selection.

Good food, good service, nice deco, what else you need? Nice alternative options on the menu and really good fresh juices. Perfect for a lunch

What an absolute treat. Beautiful decor, quirky details, lovely ambience. The food is sublime and the vegetarian options unlike any I've had in Cape Town. Everything is always so fresh and the staff friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. You can see they enjoy working there which is so pleasant for the customer too. One of the best spots in Cape Town for sure!

It's been years since I last visited this cafe, and I'm still impressed by the thoughtful menu, despite a change of hands.

I like the atmosphere, though the changing art has taken its toll on the walls somewhat and that is evident. Otherwise, much thought has been put into the...

My second time at skinny legs and just as disappointed as before! Although the decor & food is always good - it is quite pricey. The menu has a wide selection of interesting bites & drinks but the service is always the biggest let down. There's nothing worse than feeling unwelcome in a restaurant, especially when you are a paying customer. On both occasions, I have had to wait to be served and haven't been welcomed/acknowledged by the waitresses, even when I have greeted them. Today was an exceptionally negative experience where I got rushed out long before closing time by a waitress who spent more time eating soup at a separate table than serving the customers there.

Definitely will not be returning after two occasions of incredibly poor and rude service.

I like my breakfast in this cute cafe . Fruit salad with yogurt and home made granola are delicious. Their fresh ginger tea and juices are just perfect match for a boost of energy in the morning. Owners are mother and daughter, super friendly. If you feel like something salty even their bread selection is interesting. Even a slice of it with avo salt and pepper is tasty and filling.

We are regulars here for a quick breakfast and coffee. We love this place for a few reasons,

1. They cater for Vegans
2. Staff are friendly and offer excellent service
3. Simple layout, clean and stylish
4. Food and coffee is always above average

Great quality food in an intimate café with something very everyone even though the menu is short. We were there for brunch on a cool morning in the Mother City and enjoyed poached eggs, flapjacks and smoothies. The consensus from our party of five was that the quality of the ingredients used is high and food preparation is good. A special highlight was the almond mylk latte which seemed to have a bit of the nut pulp thrown in for added richness.

Skinny Legs Luxury Cafe might have a curiously grand name but it's ambiance is comforting and intimate – in a minimalist sort of way. A combination of raw cement floors, high panelled ceilings and the blue Delftesque tiles in the kitchen area give this inner city eatery a homely feel whilst the reclaimed schoolroom chairs combined with Perspex furniture and tables painted a white gloss make it an Instagrammer's paradise.

Continuing on the theme of photogenic spots to lunch at, the menu mirrors the café's name with a health-conscious selection of foodstuffs – all beautifully presented on retro earthenware crockery. I opted for the Chèvre salad with walnuts and a wonderful pile of deep green rocket doused liberally in a tangy vinaigrette. For someone that isn't altogether fond of salads, I could easily turn over a new leaf and become a repeat customer purely based on this dish.

An interesting selection of drinks also makes this a worthwhile brunchtime venue – my Matcha Latté with almond milk was pleasantly earthy plus they have fresh kombucha which is always a welcome addition to any menu. Their shakes are authentically flavoured with fresh ingredients and the constant activity in the open-plan kitchen is a treat to watch.

The only downside to our visit was that our waitress wasn't the most attentive and seemed to spend the majority of her time hanging on to the kitchen countertop and having in-depth conversations with the rest of the staff instead of attending to customers.

That being said, my absolute winning point would have to be that Skinny Legs Luxury Café SERVES BREAKFAST ALL DAY. So I definitely recommend a visit!

Walked into the new branch in Wandel Street. I adore the simple and understated interior plus the exceptionally friendly ladies behind the counter, I started my day with a smile and their spinach, apple, and honey smoothie.

This was one of the biggest dissapointments in CT so far!

We went to this cafe since they advertise as a healthier alternative to the usual coffee store. None of us liked it!

We ordered the Trout with salad and baby potatoes. It was the tiniest bit of fish with 4 (four!!!) minute potatoes and some greens Very pricey as well....

The Pasta with green peas and feta only tasted like feta, peas, pasta and massive amounts of garlic. There was nothing special to it and the size of the portion was tiny! For around R85, I at least expect something special, if I won't get full.

The Quinoa Porridge was an absolute joke. The Quinoa tasted like - suprise - Quinoa without any seasoning. The promised cinnamon and honey seemed to be forgotten, only a giant decorative cinnamon stick was put in the tiny bowl. That doesn't do anything to the bland taste, really....

The coffee was so-so, nothing special.

All together - what a waste, won't go again.

The paintings on the walls were nice.

After the eating binge I have been on in Cape Town's wonderful restaurants, I came to Skinny Legs for a detox. The Porridge of the Gods and the quinoa bowl are healthy and delicious - a rare combination! And the legs of the tables here are really skinny!

Skinny legs, is a must for breakfast. It's really cute and it has a clean look which I love. I couldn't even decide what I wanted. I really enjoyed the coffee served though

Absolutely delish! The best part about Skinny Legs is their homemade almond milk, healthy and a hint of cinnamon that adds a touch of yum to your coffee. Amazing food for gluten-free peeps like me. Talented barista. Will be back

Skinny Legs is a great little spot serving absolutely amazing food. I love coming here in the mornings to do some work on my laptop and enjoying their good coffee, one of the freshly squeezed juices, and a breakfast. Their lunchtime soups are also amazing! The staff is always friendly and very accommodating. The food is also of a great quality. Only downfall: It's wicked expensive and you can get better value for money elsewhere. I've now stopped having their breakfasts and fresh juices for that reason and have found I can pay for two elsewhere what I'd pay here for one, but their soups are still great value for money and super duper tasty! Definitely recommend!

It's a little difficult going to a place where everybody seems to always, in some way, be practicing one of those weaponised sorts of yoga. You can practically see the chakra venting out of their spinal columns when they're handing over almond milks or quinoa salads. Still. Both the almond milks and quinoa salads are rather nice.
Storm Farrell
The slow-roasted tomatoes make the Lumberjack one of the best salads I've ever had. And their coffee is better priced than other cafes in its class.

A great little breakfast spot. Recently taken over and run by new management who were very friendly, welcoming and willing to accommodate my needs. I ordered a cappuccino with an extra shot of espresso which was done with a smile and their beans are amazing! I really felt like an English style breakfast which was unfortunately not on their menu yet, but they put a fantastic dish together for me. Although the toast was rock hard and a bit tricky to eat, everything else was done to perfection. The only real issue I had was that once again, a breakfast serving venue in the CBD did not stock Worcester Sauce. Breakfast gets a solid 7/10

Together with some friends I had one the best healthy breakfasts in Cape Town.

Food:
Amazing healthy choices.

Drinks:
Coffee is made with so much love. Also they have these shakes that are delicious: try the chocolate one.

They have free wifi!
Atmosphere is great, great service and amazing decor! It's very clean as well! 👍🏼
Reasonable price for amazing quality.
Skinny Legs is a quaint little cafe in the heart of the CBD and. It's owned by a mother and daughter. Good food, good coffee, freshly squeezed juice and beautiful people. Make your way down Loop and pop in! :)

Skinny legs was a disappointment, they don't have a lot food that I like and the drinks are also not great, I tried the raw chocolate shake it looked good when I got it but when tasted it, it tasted like banana! The decor is nice and the service is quick but it was a bad experience :(

We popped in on a Saturday, about 30mins before closing. Most of what we asked for was already finished! Not really a kid friendly menu, but good coffee and from the looks of it, good wholesome food..

I work in the area and have popped in a couple of times. I must admit that I was underwhelmed with me first meal there but that was back when I regularly ate unhealthily, so really good food was foreign to me.

Since then I have indulged in a for quick coffee dates (great coffee) and a muesli breakfast. Defs worth a visit if you are looking for good, healthy food and strong coffee.

I popped into the cafe while running some errands in the cbd. It's spacious, clean and quiet with wifi and friendly staff.

Their menu boasts an all day breakfast, as well as scrumptious salads and sandwiches. They make their own almond milk which is divine and is even better in a latte served on the side of a date scone!

If you ever need a quiet space to work, while grabbing something healthy and delicious Skinny legs should be at the top of your list.

One of my favorite eateries at the moment. Food is super fresh and tasty. The juices are a must! Salad of fior di latte is one of my absolute favorite.

Sorry, but hard to justify R85 for a take-away lunch sandwich! Ok, so R75 for a chicken sandwich - maybe R10 extra for rye (although not sure) and a SINGLE chicken breast. All served on small pieces of rye about 5 x 5cm, with half an avo.

I don't mind paying for a meal - but don't like being ripped off, which is what I felt after this ridiculous pricing. Not complaining about flavour, which was quite good (if not rather greasy) and a well cooked chicken breast.

To compare - Tasha's Le Parc in Hyde Park, which is also not a cheap bite, charges about the same, however they at least give 2 chicken breasts, a whole Avo and big chunks / shavings of parmigiano. On a ciabatta. Effectively double the size...

Fist and last time Eatingout at this place.

Lovely little breakfast place with excellent coffee and a cool photo exhibition up on the walls. Had the yoghurt with home made granola and a fresh fruit salad with raspberries, passion fruit and more. Will be back to try the date scone!

The general consensus among our party of 6, was 3.5 but everyone seemed to have different experiences. The new owners (since Jan 2015) have kept the same menu as before, based wholley on the Rose Bakery in Paris, but styled and portion-sized to the Cape Town hipster and yummymummy palate. In other words, eggs are soft and fluffy, portions are shrunken and rocket adorns the ceramic plates.
Lara Kerbelker
Lovely relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. I had the panzanella which was delicious, and the perfect size for a work day lunch, filling but I wasn't stuffed. Goes beautifully with a glass of their sauvignon blanc.

I went on tei occassions once with the wife and then with afriend . The foods provided and service and atmosphere were of a high standard and the pricing reasonable. Ted weber tourguide

Perfect breakfast nook in the Cape Town cbd. Their freshly baked scones, banana bread and many other items are world-class and sell out in no time. You need to be in early to have a full selection. Service is fast, efficient and friendly. My wife and i ordered the porridge of the Gods (what's served up backs the name up), the soft scrambled eggs with trout and the a slice of banana bread to share (scones are for the fast as these were sold out by 9am). We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will return when next in the Mother City. Coffees are perfectly made... Special place!
