Stopped in at Ferdinando's to grab supper on our way back to Stellenbosch last night. We had no idea what to expect, and immediately in walking in, we were met with a cozy, eclectic little place and a vibrant, friendly, and welcoming hostess who was more than happy to cater to my mom with Celiac disease (no gluten). To start with, we had some seriously delicious virgin pina coladas and a mojito - no skimping on the coconut milk here! The complimentary bread sticks were served with a creamy garlic sauce and very tasty! My mom and I ordered the Fungetta to share (on the gluten free base), my fiancé had the Cacciatore, and my sister had the feta and spinach ravioli. When our food arrived, the hostess told us all about how the chef had especially held the gluten free pizza away from any contamination risks (for a celiac disease sufferer, this is music to one's ears, and makes one feel incredibly valued). And what absolutely, perfectly yummy food! There is something wholesome and homemade about Ferdinando's dishes, and it really stands out. I wish I'd had a whole pizza to eat If I'm in the area again, I will absolutely be returning!
Absolutely Great and undoubtedly the best pizza in Cape Town and South Africa!! As I sat waiting for my meal chatting to Diego and Kimone (who are amazing hosts and the owners) burrata was delivered to the kitchen and Diego was ecstatic at the sight of these beautiful balls of mozzarella. With such excitement from a chef, Obviously I ordered them and they were presented like a poached eggs, and when i cut this ball of mozzarella it oozed an amazing buttery cream! A must have when available. The pizza was equally great made from doppio zero flour and properly hand crafted with amazing care. Cannot believe that to get the outside crust just right it gets dusted with a second type of flour! What was meant to be a quick pizza turned into a 3 hour taste and experience and extravaganza. Well done Kimone and Diego. BTW- the staff were just as amazing as the food and whilst I went there alone, I dined in amazing company! In fact I write this whilst still in the restaurant!
absolute pleasure! great food, incredible vibe, cosy and fun atmosphere and just the coolest staff members. there's something really special happening at ferdinando's pizza. will defs visit there again, bringing more friends!
What an incredible little gem tucked away in obs. The vibe, the food and drinks were everything! Had a top night 💃🤸♂️💃
We were there last night to try your vegan pizzas and they were all yummy :) definitely worth a visit if you are vegan and looking for pizzas :)
This is my go to when I'm craving some genuine Italian pizza with a thin juicy base! It has the best vegetarian options, that's for sure (Shanico, Mamma Mia). And the atmosphere is so homey and vibrant, you can feel the love (and taste it too). Highly recommended for group celebrations and birthday parties, or even for intimate, candle-lit dates. Thank you Ferdinando I can't get enough :)
Best pizza in South Africa, chewy, tasty bases, great tomato - the eggplant and mozarella pizza is perfect, thinly sliced, slightly crispy eggplant, mozarella and some extra pommodoro on top!
I just had my first pizza as a vegan and they totally nailed it. Well done guys I loved it!
My favourite restaurant..Best food..best service.Kiki and Diego Rock !!
You can see at Ferdinando's that they love what they do. Good vibes, awesome food, excellent concept. Highly recommended!
I also want to give a big shout-out to the owner who has a heart of gold and makes a big difference in the community with her generosity - thumbs up. :-)
The turbanite has always been my absolute fav but the Funghetta on the new menu is pure deliciousness! And don't even let me get started on the aioli! can't wait to have my weekly ferdinando's pizza fix!♡♡♡
Fantastic birthday dinner was hosted there. What a great atmosphere, great service and delicious food! The staff went out of their way to make the occasion even more special- thank you so much for a fabulous evening!
Now THAT, was easily the best pizza in Cape Town. And selling Sanpellegrino just makes you even better. Loved it
Amazing pizza! Amazing place! Amazing owners and amazing Staff!!!! First thing when get in Africa..... Ferdidando's ! Miss u guys! Thanks for everything!!!!
Simply an awesome place, nice related and cozy atmosphere. The food is something out of this world. Straight from Italy through the hands of the true Italian chef. Wish I could eat there every day.
BEST pizza.... hands down 🍕🍕🍕 Manuela loca is my personal fave 😍
Once again. Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Great food. Service as slow as I like. Excellent
Great pizza, yummy sangria and a great atmosphere! Thanks for the extra spoils for the birthday boy too Ferdinando's team - we'll be back soon!
Great pizza, lovely informal atmosphere. Eagerly anticipating a return visit early next year.
The most delicious, bravo! Atmosphere, good food, good prices- you will find me there again and again.
Best Pizza in Cape Town. Love the cross between Italian and South African. And of course the friendly atmosphere. Well Done Diego and co. <3
It would be the best kept secret in Cape Town...pity no one can keep the secret as the pizza and the vibe are so good!
Came all the way from Santorini Greece, to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of this homely place. Fabulous Pizza, Fabulous hosts.
What an amazing experience! Ferdinando's pizza becomes a home, rather than a restaurant. It's fun, relaxed and filled with smiles, not to mention the most delicious pizzas! THANK YOU!!
Loved the authenticity and atmosphere. So good to have traditional Pizza with so any veggie options.
Real italian pizza! Owners are fantastic passionate, good and clean energy people.
Love it!
Warm atmosphere, great kitsch cool decor and awesome pizza, This place is a new favourite!
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum
Diavola pizza with their home-made chilli oil. Chewy, perfectly light bases, delicious pomodoro and a good bite to the salami. Fantastic
Pleasantly suprised with the amazing pizza served at this joint! The decor is different and strange - in a good way. Pizza was so lekker, thin base and nice and chewy. The crusts are bomb. They serve the most amazing garlic aoli to dip your crusts in too! They have games to play at the tables which is great for big groups :)
Where has Ferdinando’s been all my life ! Absolutely amazing flavor combinations - such a refreshing take on pizza. I don’t know where to start but I’ll start by saying I got so caught up enjoying the pizza that I forgot to take photos of the food. I will definitely come back to update that.
The atmosphere is a warm mix of artifacts from all over. I like the how the crazy eclectic vibe almost mirror the diversity of people that come here. There was a en epic bustle of activity for dinner so I recommend booking a spot if you are not ordering take away. I was lucky enough to walk in and get a table. Besides the food I sampled a lime milkshake and it was refreshing and delicious made with real lime zest. My tea came with honey and lemon standard and that’s pretty neat because I always have to ask at other places, then the waiter forgets and the tea gets cold and it ends up being a sad state of affairs. Onto the aioli that you can also buy separate.... my word that stuff is good. It’s great with the pizza dough bread sticks it comes with but I could buy a tub and eat a whole tube of Pringles with it or those chipnicks things. Well done Diego for coming up with that - so good.
If you don’t know the owners run an outreach pasta kitchen feeding the homeless and I think that is just incredible. Their message “help us fill our cup so we can fill others” is a testament to how small business in the area should do work. I love that you can do you bit by helping by dropping off pasta at the restaurant, by adding an amount onto your bill or just chatting to Kimmon about getting yourself in there to volunteer on Wednesday nights. Great people making great food. Well done
Quirky little place with great pizza and UNO on the tables 👍
Also there’s an animated fox on the menu called Ferdi or something, so that’s pretty cool too.
Make sure you book because it’s popular with locals
Was my first time last week. Pizza is good although some are a bit pricey for how they actually taste and look. Nevertheless it was a good experience. The waitress was a bit ditsy though lol she kept forgetting our orders but friendly. There were 8 of us and I'll definitely go back to thy cosy little place
I obviously had the pizzas . The dough was a bit chewing but the pizzas 🍕 were fine . I loved the incorporation of the little bits of South African cuisine culture into the pizza toppings . Most importantly for me was that we were seated up stairs in a great secluded area that added a romantic effect to my date I enjoyed the low lighting, the lovely artistic pieces that make the place special. It was a very intimate set up . The only other disappointing thing was that the service was not that great they didn't treat us well and I don't know if it was the racial barrier but I was not impressed.
BEST PIZZA IN CAPE TOWN!
The staff are friendly with a family vibe and always make sure you have everything you need. The food is remarkable! I have been here multiple times and consider myself quite the pizza snob. The Turbanite with grilled courgettes and homemade caramalized onion marmalade makes my day every time I get to sample it. They rock a delicious Vegana pizza (vegan) and plenty of vegetarian options so everyone feels catered to. The coffee is good and the the cocktails are delicious. The decor is between kitsch, artsy and modern and has a homey feel. Will return again and again!
Best Italian food I've had in Cape Town. The whole gamut of starters, pizzas and deserts are lovely. The pizza crust is grainy, as though they used real stoneground flour. I loved it.
Gahhh! How cute is this place and how adorable is their story (details are in the menu). Amazing pizza and such an adorable little restaurant. Had the parma ham pizza - so so very good (thin and crispy just the way I like it)!
Amazing food and really good prices. Do try the tiramisu, it's one of the best I've had in Cape Town. Make sure to book otherwise you might be disappointed. Thanks for a great evening.
Came here for dinner the night before my birthday and what a pleasantly surprising experience it was
The decor and low-key lighting make the place feel enchanted and mystical; it has a very 'Madame Zingara' feel to it.
I ordered the gnocchi with basil pesto which was delicious. The texture was great and the flavours were subtle but the way I wanted them to be.
For desert I had the Panna cotta which was the nicest panna cotta I've ever had.
A great experience overall, and I'll definitely be back.
Best pizza and ravioli in Cape Town. The starters are incredible. Great vibe. The service can be a little on the interesting side but it's always fun. Love this place!
Very cozy, lively place with great beer and good selection of interesting or unusual drinks. Give yourself an hour to get into the menu the first visit - visually fun but a little overwhelming if pushed for time! The breadsticks were a little doughy, but made up for by the best aioli I've ever had!
Pizzas all looked great, very well presented; sadly mine was soggy in the middle, but the edges were very tasty. I'll try something with less toppings next time!
**Update: On my second visit to this stupendously popular and crowded little place, my pizza was great. I'll be back! Changing my rating from 3.5 to 4 - would be higher if there was more consistency with the food
It's small, its cosy but boy does Ferdinandos deliver! Great pizza (we had Funghetta, Lolina and Veg). Its busy and quirky with hand printed menus. All fresh ingredients with an authentic Italian flare...and pizza sticks for starters. Best of all, their Aioli is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Give it a go, you won't be disappointed!
One of my favorite pizza places in Cape Town. There is something really special about their pizza crust- straight outa Italy! Love that I can add my own chili too! The atmosphere and decor is quirky and fun, the staff are really great. It's always a great time at Ferdinandos! Love supporting them!
Ferdinandos have the most incredible pizza! Thin bases, thick crusts and a delicious homemade tomato base. This spot is definitely one of Obz's hidden gems!
Best Pizza in Cape Town by a LONG way!!! We love ferdinandos SO much. Always an incredibly fun, happy atmosphere, kicked off by the owners, who make such an effort to ensure everyone is having a great time. The bartenders are wonderful too. Complimentary fresh chewy breadsticks with aioli five you a taste for what is to come - absolutely incredible pizza. Our favourites are the parmigiana, the diavola, and the Margherita. Ferdinando the dog is just the icing on the cake. Do it!
We met up with friends here on Saturday night after having this restaurant on our to-do list for ages. First thing is first: you aren't coming here for great service and your typical restaurant experience. What you are coming for is traditional Italian pizzas, a homely atmosphere, and a laid-back evening. I ordered the duo-colouri pizza which was divine. My partner entered another dimension with the pizza topped with spicy Italian sausage (the name escapes me). Another member in our party tried the Grizzly, and another had the Four Cheese. Sadly, one member of our dinner group had to send his pizza back because the toppings were SO scarce, but our waiter was friendly and agreed that two pieces of bacon most certainly was not enough for what was supposed to be a pizza with bacon. It came back soon after with a more acceptable amount on. This place is great, and the pizzas are excellent and fresh. My only suggestion would be, for the price you're paying for a pizza, there should be more toppings on some of them. I'll be back!
I landed in Obs, end-of-week bedraggled and ravenous. Me and my soon-to-be ex headed over to Ferdinandos. The quaint decor provided a tinsel-esque spark, when there was clearly none left in our relationship. The waiter humoured him when he asked for 'ketchup' with his gourmet pizza and manage to gloss over any awkwardness that was happening between us. Food-wise, some of the best pizza found in the CBD and surrounds, lovely desserts and an up-beat, colourful vibe. Will go back, since I don't have to cringe at anyone asking for 'ketchup' when ordering superb Italian foods. They also played good music. Upon enquiry, another waiter diligently wrote the artist - Ali Farka Touré -on a piece of paper. I know Zomato is for food, but would rate the music 10/10. All in all, a really rad space. (There's also a weird chubby dog around, if you're into that sortof thing. NOT referring to my ex, I promise)
A hidden Gem . After moving from Kloof Street we decided to give the Woodstock branch a go and as at Kloof the pizza was amazing . Kimonster for the win . The pizza is authentic and handmade by the italian owner . The starters and aioli are also to die for . Will be back !!
This is my all time favorite pizza - place. The ambiance is laid back, but its perfect that way. The food, the decorations, the menu and its design, the hostess, the dog, the Aioli (OMG, the Aioli is the best in the world)... Ok, I can continue forever about how awesome this place is and how much I love it. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Nom nom nom nom..,
After completing the Newlands brewery tour a group of mates and I made a spur of the moment decision to go to Ferdinandos Pizza for a bite to eat.
It is nestled down a road in Obz but as we walked in I could sense the eclectic vibe of the restaurant. It is cosy and all the tables are close but intimate. Given that we were a big group we got one of the bigger tables upstairs. There is am isn't music playing and there was even a live guitarist playing at one point.
The food and drinks were really good but given my student budget I couldn't explore the menu fully, although I did manage to squeeze in a jug of sangria.
My mate and I both concluded that Ferdinandos is the perfect spot to go on a date - hopefully soon
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS UNDERGROUND PIZZA PLACE! Food and vibe was fantastic! Just felt a bit pressurised to eat the dessert haha, but otherwise the staff were incredible and music was vibey and everything was warm and wonderful
Totaly love this quaint Pizzeria ! Great awesome vibe and lovely pizzas to choose from ! Colourful decor and friendly service it's a place that makes you feel at home ! Love the pizzas ! Definitely will be back , when I am back in CT !
Something like an eccentric artist's dazzling dinner party at his sumptuous little Victorian terrace house. A dashing cast of waiters flit about the bohemian vibrancy of Art Deco wall paper, potted palms, velvet upholstered furniture, eclectic decorations and mismatched tables.
And everyone eating there is soooo cool, so you obviously are too.
And then there's the phenomenon that the food is actually as delicious as the atmosphere. The sourdough pizza bases and complementary breadsticks are heavenly. The Vegetable antipasti is my favourite sort of thing to order: sharing food; luxurious roasted vegetables, olives, melanzane, artichokes and lots of cheese- more than enough for three! Ridiculously well priced, especially if you share because the portions are huge. You really ought to go.
Had a great time.. great atmosphere.. nice and intimate, very cosy place to come and have dinner. Staffs very friendly.. love the menus and feel of this place. Definitely recommend it to all.. and the bread sticks and mayo they bring is unbelievable.. Pizzas are AMA-ZING. Fantastic experience overall.. Definitely try gherkin tiramisu as well..
Wacky and wonderful eclictisism in historic obz. The quirky husband and wife team who run this show have created something truly unique and provide a super casual dining experience, it feels more like one is dining at a friend's house than a restaurant. Affordably priced handmade medium base pizzas with some downright bizzare toppings. Delicious. Unfortunately they don't have a large selection of craft beers (yet). Be warned, on a hot summer eve make sure you get a table near an openable window, don't sit at the top of the stairs or you will melt.

Ordered take aways and it was really impressed. The pizza bases were just right. Would definitely go in store and check out the vibe. Loved the vegetarian options

undoubtedly the best pizza I have ever tasted. Choose from a large variety of pizza as well as other yummie treats.
But really! it will blow your mind!
It's just as everyone says: great pizza, friendly people, quirky decor. All in all, really fun and really tasty. Streets ahead of any other pizza place for miles around. That includes the city centre.
The pasta is not as good, unfortunately, but good cocktails.
Ferdinandos Pizza in Obs is by far the best pizza I've ever had in Cape Town. These guys know what they're doing. Don't be scared to try something like potato and fennel on pizza, trust me - it works. And look out for Ferdinando himself, a senior dog, working the room with his charm. The staff are super friendly. Lovely vibe, amazing food.
This is the most beautifully personal and character-filled pizzeria I have ever been to. The free aioli is amazing and the pizza is the best I've ever had. Topped with the rosemary infused chilli oil it was more than perfect. Top quality food and service. Thought twice about writing this review because I kindof want to keep this place as a local secret!
Our Italian class had our end of term social here - and it was handpicked by our Italian teacher who promised that this is authentic pizza like they make in Italia! So I had very high expectations - which were definitely met. This is hands down the best pizza I've ever eaten (including what I ate in Rome!).
We were introduced to Ferdinando’s by our Italian teacher, who highly recommended the pizza. She was right: it was buonissimo! As soon as I walked out the door I was planning my next trip back to this amazing little eatery.
Ferdinandos is a breathe of fresh air to this part of Observatory. The atmosphere is different & only improved by the hostess & her vibrant personality. The food is amazing! My new favourite place to eat out, I suggest you go & judge for yourself, but I'm sure you will come to the same conclusion.
Ferdinando's in Obs has become our new favourite local that we frequent at least once a week. The pizza is traditional Italian, made by Diego (Italian chef and co-owner). Kiki is the other half to this magical duo who is a warm, fun and entertaining host. We always get a round of applause for ordering our favourite Italian cocktail, Aperol Spritz and have breaks mid-meal to partake in a good dose of Laughter Yoga! It is an absolute treat to witness Ferdinando aka "The Boss", their dog, who makes special guest appearances and sometimes even performs circus tricks for strokes. Highly recommend the Parmigiana, which comes as a bake or as a pizza. They also have a couple of great Italian wines.
This place is special!
The first time I ate here, I was in too much of a hurry to fully appreciate it. I fixed that the other night by having a long, leisurely dinner.
I don't dislike anything about this place. We were seated at a table on a little landing leading into the upstairs dining room, which sounds weird but was great, with a floor-to-ceiling window in the wall.
My dining companions and I decided to sample their starters - the melanzane parmigiana rolls are so good you'll want to eat a bucket of them. Try them even if you think you don't like aubergines. The breadsticks were a little charred, but that didn't stop us from scooping up masses of the garlic aioli with them. We promptly bought two jars to take home and I've been eating it on everything since.
The pizzas were excellent - a thick outer crust becoming very thin, almost soupy in the middle and a good balance of cheese, tomato sauce and toppings. I don't think any of us used the condiments we were given, these pizzas are good just as they are.
We would've liked to try dessert, but we were far too full by then.
They only take cash now, so make sure you have some. This is not the trainsmash it could be somewhere else because there are ATM's a short walk down the street.
As we were leaving, we were treated to a glimpse of Ferdinando himself, the adorable corgi cross who lends his name to the restaurant and will be your best friend for a piece of pizza crust.
The place is very popular, so it's probably best to reserve a table.
Bonus: these pizzas make great leftovers!
One of the best dinners that I have had in a long time! The host, Kikka, is fantastic and the pizza was absolutely delish as well. We had the French Prince as well as another one that was on special (olives, peppers, mushrooms, tomatos and more yumminess) For pudding we had the the vanilla ice-cream with espresso. It is such a wonderful atmosphere. Kikka kept me entertained with her vibrant personality - a truly enjoyable atmosphere that I would highly recommend for a nice dinner out with friends.
Most welcoming, crazy owners/hosts/chefs/friends in town :) Kiki, Diego & superstar dog Ferdinando welcome you into their home in Obs to enjoy spectacular food (made with love and quality ingredients)....always a great evening! Local fav
Couldnt wait to visit them at Obs and we were not disappointed! I have yet to not enjoy any of their pizza's..they are just always good and as for their Aioli....the BEST, and you can now buy it by the jar to take home! Great ambience with a little courtyard in which a massive fire was kept going! A definite must!! Diago and Kiki were both there and as usual came over for a chat and Diago made Charlie's dessert personally!!
Pizza is so delicious, can't wait to eat my way through their menu! The welcome into this homely establishment is so friendly you don't want to leave! We will be back again, and again, and again! Thanks Kimon and Diego!!
Deliciously amazing authentic Italian pizza. Great chilli oil. Cosy restaurant with coal fire, very relaxed atmosphere. Think I will become a local! Michelle Parkin
I absolutely adore the new home of ferdinando's pizza in obs. The love that's gone into creating the space and into the pizza's is felt and experienced everytime. The relaxed atmosphere and awesome staff make you feel right at home!
The authentic Italian ingredients and crispy pizza bases make for a delicious dining experience! Not to mention the highly addictive aioli and breadsticks which keep me coming back for more!
