Review Wang Thai (lagoon Beach) - Cape Town Central

Wonderful atmosphere. Fantastic waiters. Food super. Lovely time with the girls

Great food with a large selection and good quality. Prices are a little higher than average, but affordable for the quality and location (a few steps from a beach and lagoon). Our service was a bit disappointing though, as we had about 3 different waiters (we only dined for ~2h) and so some items we ordered were not actually ordered or brought to us. Food takes some time to arrive, but is very worth the wait. Highly recommend green curry + rice.

It was nice, I barely ate anything because I was so full, but what I did eat / try was nice. I enjoyed the service, the people and the views. Worth trying out if you enjoy Asian food.

The food here is an understatement to say how amazing it is. Far star food at 3 star prices. Worth coming back over n over

Well seeing it was a windy day, we made the best of the experience at Wang Thai, food delicious, it was a new waitress though so hmmm well like I said we made the best of it 🙃 stunning view of the ocean.

Wang Thai is an incredible restaurant at a beautiful location. The food is out of this world, and the drinks are great as well. I would highly recommend the spicy pot (go for medium. We tried hot once, and it was extremely hot). The wonton soup is amazing, and the soft shell crab is to die for. The dim sum is great, too. I highly recommend this place, it is probably our favorite restaurant in the area.

This restaurant is so family orientated. There were tables of families with kids, couples and even people on their own. The kids all seemed happy and looked after. I will definitely bring my 3 next time. The menu is extensive and there is something for all tastes. We will definitely be back. The spicy pot (soup) was absolutely outstanding. And so was the sushi salad

Lovely food as usual. Good service. Stunning views. It's one of my favorite restaurents. My friend had a sushi started which looked incredible. I had spring rolls, very yummy. We then shared a stir fried beef and vegetable dish with chili, garlic and soya sauce and a massaman curry. Both dishes were divine. They are also very reasonably priced. We had 3 soft drinks and a coffee, plus starters and mains and it came to R690 including a nice tip. I can highly recommend

Great views and lovely atmosphere. Service was very good. Food was well presented and very delicious, but the men (3) were left feeling hungry. The portions are definitely ladies' size so be sure to order 2 dishes if you have a healthy appetite. Would have rated food higher if not for this.

Day 1 Good food for a good price. The cocktail was citrus with a delicate texture. Enjoyable to say the least The main course felt a little too oily but the flavors were smooth with just the right amount of spice. The dessert was chocolate filled with the vanilla ice cream added as a nice complement to the spring rolls. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, they make good food for a good price. Day 2 The Mango bite and the cashew nut paste was great. Day 3 Ok! The food was great again and so was the drink. I would definitely visit here again. I just have one quirk the ambiance and furniture can be better.

Great experience. Loved the ambiance. Place was nice and warm considering the cold and wet weather outside. We enjoyed a lovely authentic dinner there that exceeded our expectations. Our waiters were professional , attentive, and simply amazing. We will be back.

Their food was amaaaaazing! ❤️ My first time there, enjoyed the wide range of seafood. I had seafood noodles and sushi and friend had Duck. They forgot about taking his order and he had to enquire about it, they did however compensate him with a dessert for the inconvenience

Awesome setting. Food excellent, service lagged a bit. My table was not cleared until the end, although waiter was at my table to bring next course. Sat inside, but it was very hot thst day, no fans to speak of. Otherwise good experience, i will return.

0ur host had recommended we have a meal here before we leave SA. Had a great chat with the owner on booking our table. I would book as this place was rocking when we turned up for our reservation. We had a glass of complimentary bubbly as this was our honeymoon. The mixed starters were lovely. Little mouthfuls of pure delight. Service was attentive but not ott. I was quite boring and went for a red curry, whilst my wife had a seafood salad with some sushi. My jasmine rice was lovely as was my curry. My wife's food was equally as good. Overall we had a fab meal and a lovely evening to cap off a wonderful stay exploring the Cape. If you fancy a good Thai meal this is the place to come. Beautiful views coupled with lovely food and service what more could you wish for?

Firstly, the ambiance and setup is wonderful. Great view and location; write on the beach.

The staff is very cordial and efficient in service.

Food is good, though nothing extraordinary.

Excellent Thai cuisine spot to wine and dine!! 👌🏾. We had an awesome 3 course meal; Medley of Dim Sum for starters, a light Sushi platter and a pineapple (duck) curry meal (medium) to share, all kinds of nom noms!!😋😋 And ohh... We sealed the deal with a vanilla ice cream and custard dumplings with whipped cream... Never been so satisfied!!
NB: They are currently running a special: All curry meals are served with a free glass of red wine!! Great deal!! We just added our own bottle on top! 😜. All came up to +/- R720.

Was not so welcoming to us. We saw less attention of waiters towards us and the manager also seems to be ignorant. This could be because we replaced an order which we were not expecting or misunderstanding during placement of order. But you just can't let customers feel bad about it. We were at lagoon beech for 2 night and thought this might be our final dinner destination as I wanted to try the thi noodles on second day but I cant go there again.
Andre Breytenbach
Service is slow . Food is not very tasty. The smallest crayfish I have ever seen ( have to wonder if it's even legal) and undercooked nether the less nice views from the deck . But as far as the dining experience not good
Andrew Raeburn
A total hit and miss on the sushi! Great venue, terrible sushi experience. The Thai dishes are ok. The service flow and hand over period is so slow and labored. Time for a fresh new revamp! It’s stale.
Jeremiah Albertyn
So it's been awhile since my last visit, Ordered curry dish 406, to my surprise I discovered no nuts?? Maybe times are tough but if you advertising nuts, then clearly there should be. Also thank you for coming would've been a good way to end the experience.

I was looking forward to showing off this beautiful place to my partner, after having had an amazing experience a couple of years ago. I was very dissapointed in the way it has gone backwards. Small details have been forgotten - ambiance, missing music speakers, lack of mood, etc. It just seems a bit run down to be honest. Food was okay ish. I had the chicken saté, which was quite nice, with the Roti Song Sri (which is what I came back for) - the yellow curry was quite raw and grainy, and the green curry was very dull. My “roti” was definately not roti. It had the consistency and look of puff pastry... not very appealing. My Partner had dim sum, which was okay, and sushi - which was pretty good, even though the sushi is not very refined or decadent - the pieces were very large and bulky.
Service wasn’t amazing, and at the end we had to go the the counter in front to pay, since we hadn’t seen out waiter in 30minutes.
I miss the old “vibey” Wang Thai, with the amazing mood and feel we enjoyed over cocktails and great food. 3 stars.
Yajna Gold
This Wang Thai is simply amazing! It's right on the beach, beautiful inside and out with and extensive menu and delicious cuisine! Will be back
Elza Smit
Warm beer, poor service, waited more than 30 minutes to place a food order. Eventually left disappointed - trying to find our bill but the manager printed 2 wrong bills for us. Won't return
Shirley Da Silva
We were told there was space available but when we arrived we had to wait over a hour for our table! The food took another 40 min! All the food didn't arrive and then eventually brought out half cooked curry! It was disappointing, I won't be back!
Gerhard
Great experience. Dim sum as a starter is a brilliant idea and the lingering flavours set a relaxed pace for an evening. Positioned on the beachfront with views and ideally located to take full advantage of a sunset with table mountain as the backdrop sets the scene. We tried a few curries and were pleasantly surprised with great flavours and a lingering taste that has weight and authenticity from the Far East. Supplemented by a bottle of Kanonkop Kadette, the evening was a great success. Ambiance is a friendly chatter from a full house of happy guests. Expect to spend a good, warm, friendly 2 hours with great food and great service.
Kevin Ross
Such an accommodating place. We arrived 5 minutes before the kitchen closed and asked if we can order food. The waiter helped us decide so that the kitchen could make our food. Food was done within 10min! Best restaurant we've ever been to. Definitely a must!
Lize
I haven't been here in years, but the steamed fish and beautiful aromatics and flavors of their food is amazing. Also the location right on the beach is lovely.
Adi Van Breda
Came here for my sister's birthday, really enjoyed it!! They are busy having a winter curry special so you get a portion of jasmine rice a glass of Durbanville hills wine for free. Which is definitely worth it!

We got a few combo platters for the table to share, wow all of it was amazing! There were 3 different dipping sauces and a combo of their starters.. Def worth a try.

Me and my sister shared mains , we ordered duck red curry (mild) which was delicious, it had butternut pieces in it so had a slight sweet taste.
The other dish we shared was the panang chicken curry (medium) which was abit hotter than the mild, but it was delicious which a nutty flavor!
Can't wait to come again!
Elena Belka
I would recommend this restaurant. The service was good.food always good. Sushi good size not big perfect size. BEST and biggest OYSTERS you have to try them if you are lover of it. They so fresh and tasty. Price is very fair for food what you get here.
Verlynn Johnson
Nice place near the ocean. The starter was great you could create your own wrap. Which was soo delicious and yummy. Great idea that 👍🏽.

When I go to a Thai restaurant then I always look for duck on the menu. So i got me the roast duck with honey sauce. It was delicious with egg rice and crunchy noodles. Didn't like the vegetables pickling much was a bit too sour for my taste. The honey chicken was also good and there is alot of sauce for your egg rice to mix it with. The desert was amazing love brownie and ice cream combo 👌🏽
Daniel Montague
Service usually is a bit slow and the food doesn't really make up for this. How long does it take to make Pad Thai? Apparently over an hour.

Food is alright but something that could be done at home and at least there it would take less time to make it.
Mayuri
Love the location and view.

Really spicey tom yum - quite delicious though.

We had a starter platter to share - didn't enjoy the spring roll (I don't eat duck) and these had a mixture of various meats which I really didn't enjoy. The chicken satay was pretty decent.

Found the service average.
Ernst Kuschke
This place is an absolute sh!thole. I waited for 50mins for my food and not even an apology after numerous complaints. Needless to say I won't be back.
Theo Van Zyl
I used to love going to them. Somewhere something changed and the place has gotten bad. People are packed like sardines. Its so noisy i have to yell at my wife to hear her. Its a real shame to see such a gem go down.
Chantell Schmahl
This establishment is complete and utter nonsense. Unfriendly and unattentive waitstaff. Service was slow. We waited for more than an hour for 3 simple meals. Tea and all meals were cold and had to be sent back SEVERAL times. We enquired about the size of the "crayfish" from the waiter, and after he asked the chef, he still couldn't tell us exactly, but when the dish arrived, the three tails were smaller than he advised they would be. (Comparative picture of "crayfish" and common prawn below.)

The manager came to talk to us, and was unapologetic about what was happening in this restaurant.

I asked for a desert menu as we were ordering, and I'm still waiting.

If it were up to me I would leave and eat KFC, but my mother and partner were dining with me. My partner actually went over to another table with international guests and that patron said that he received fish which was still raw and frozen in the middle and seared on the outside.

Our food was mediocre, at best.

I planning on eating here every day for the duration of my stay, but I will stay away.

Very disappointing indeed
Sheryll
In my opinion this is one of the best places to go for thai food, especially on the Milnerton side of Cape Town out of town area.
The flavours are extremely authentic and each taste reminds me of being in Thailand.
It's also fantastic for sundowners, their cocktail menu is wonderful and each sip feels like being on holiday.
Pair that with an ocean view and you have a fantastic night out.
Aksh Behari
Such a disappointing dinner. The worst service I have received in Cape Town and a disinterested manager. We were told by the waiter that a large group of 30+ people, who arrived after us, would get preference and that as soon as they walked in the restaurant stops until they are taken care of. (The manager denied this) Waited 1 hr 15min for a SOUP.
Allan Moita
When I look back to my first visit to this restaurant, I cannot believe how bad it has gotten. The service has never been good but now it's just plain aweful!

The nature of the shop seems to be focused on foreign customers. There was a tour group leaving the shop when I walked in. The quality of the food has slipped too. Not in looks but in the quality of the rice preparation.

The view remains perfect though!
Liezle Obermeyer
Pretty average. Service went down the tubes when I told the waitress we are vegans, and can't eat any butter, cream, mayo....she was helpful to a point with suggestions, but still our sushi was brought to us by our waitress with mayo on. Main meals were both ordered medium, but the one was so spicey that we could not eat it. No manager presence on the floor. Food is tasty, but nothing wow. No drinks refills offered, so we only had one drink each.
Nicol Miller
Celebrated my birthday here. The location is beautiful, on the shore of the beach. Just the way I like it. I ordered the Po-pia, which was duck springrolls, and Beef red curry as a main. Some of the other girls had sushi as starters and green curry, honey chicken and noodles as their mains. The staff were quite cute in preparing a local dessert for me too

✔beautiful location
✔tasty food
✖ pricey menu
Dennis Chiang
Actually a very nice Thai place, dishes are spicy and have depth in the flavours. Just a tad bit overpriced in my opinion. Service and decor are pretty good and it's next to the beach :)

You will find Wang Thai at Lagoon Beach with beautiful views of the ocean for a welcoming atmosphere.

A taste of Thai cuisine with a menu ready to tempt the palate with dishes flavoured with lemongrass, sweet chilli and tamarind.

We started off with a collection of starters - Crispy duck and prawn springrolls, enjoyable sweet corn cakes, tender chicken satays served with a spicy peanut sauce, prawn and sweet potato pastry served with a chilli sauce.

Wonton parcels deliciously filled with chicken and prawn. Delicious medley of dim sum with an assortment of fillings including chicken, prawns, shitake mushrooms and crabsticks. All served with a vinegary dim sum sauce.

For mains we opted for something more spicy to entice our senses with the essence of Thailand. Wok-fried chicken, cashew nuts and peppers infused with roasted chilli paste. A flavourful dish pleasing to the eyes, palate and nose. The Panaeng chicken curry is creamy with coconut milk infused served with green beans and peanuts.

Everything was delicious from the starters to the mains with amazing aromas and a delicate mix of spices and flavours.

I went for dinner and had the worst food poisoning of my life from this restaurant. The restaurant should seriously check the freshness of their poultry. I shall not be returning...
Shainy
Despite the amazing location and stunning views one would get when visiting this branch, I was really disappointed with the service as well as the food. I visit the Nelson Mandela Square branch often and have not once left disappointed however the service was extremely slow and the food was also not one usually expects when visiting Wang Thai.
Glen Hunt
Been here a couple of times over the years I've been in Cape Town and they have never disappointed.

Service has been very good and friendly.

The resturant is located right of the beach so the outside patio has some wonderful views of the beach and towards the end of the day a beautiful sunset.

The decor is very Thai inspired with modern dark wooden tones. There is a long bar at the back and small sushi station at the front. I really don't think they need to sell Thai food and Sushi. It's probably the one thing that I cannot understand about Asian resturants in South Africa.

Nevertheless, the Thai food is what we came for and overall was very good. We started with the dim sum platter and could tell they were home made. Each item was fresh and tasted nice.

We ended up with a prawn stir fry with medium chilli paste and vegetables. We also had a red chicken curry. Both were spiced perfectly for medium spice and tasted very good.

So the age old question.. Will I go back? Yes, it's local for me and very decent priced. My only complaint is parking can be a pain. But it's worth it.

While we were in Century City, we decided to stop in for lunch at Wang Thai. The first thing that caught my attention was the incredible view of the lagoon Wang Thai has to offer!

The menu is very extensive, covering a range of Thai dishes and sushi. They currently have a curry special, available for the next few months, which is just such a win. The special includes a glass of Durbanville Hills wine and a portion of Jasmine rice with any curry.
I had the Green curry and my friend had the angry wok. They were both okay, but definitely not worth a trip to Century City. We had the dim sum medley for starters, but our dim sum was served cold and lacked flavour.

The service at Wang Thai was spectacular! It definitely made our lunch that much more enjoyable. The curry special is well worth it if you are willing to make the drive!
Barbara Ann Hall
Excellent venue with a lovely view! Very comprehensive menu and wine list. Great curry, sushi of a high standard and service is commendable.. Highly recommended restaurant!!, Will definitely be back!!
Neil McBain
Always been my fav restaurant but holy crap the service is slow tonight. Ctn service is usually atrocious at best but tonight was rediculous. Good thing they make up for it in the quality of the food
Elle Mbadaliga
Exellent service, great view. I definitely want to go again. I had one on the curry dishes. I'm not really a fan of Thai but this is a good restaurant to get me started. It's a great area to relax and the kids can play by the beach while the adults relax. Next time I'll go for hot.
Jason O'Hoolihan
Delicious flavors, decent prices, excellent service by the waitrons, and a beautiful setting. It eventually turned out to be an enjoyable Father's Day celebration at Wang Thai last night.

However, the management need to pull up their socks:
- Firstly, when it is raining, do NOT stack the outside tables on top of one another, so that they block the beautiful view outside!
- Secondly, do NOT serve jasmine tea in a french press coffee pot with a Lavazza coffee cup.
- Finally, do NOT have one of your senior managers laugh and cackle with your over-intoxicated customers, so as to ruin the experience for your other customers...
Jon Gericke
Service took a little while to get to our table of three but the waitress was knowledgeable and friendly.
They need a set menu of sorts though.
We ordered a range of food as one my mates had just returned from Thailand but all of the food arrived at the same time. It should have been spread out.
Saying that, the food was amazing!!!
If I have the money, I will be back.
PS. I left my sunglasses behind on leaving and went to collect them the next day. They were well taken care of. Thank you.
Jess Styles
I haven't been to Wang Thai for a couple years so I was quite excited to go back last night as my previous visit a few years back was really good. I found the prices, especially of the drinks to be very reasonable. I ordered the Roasted Duck and really enjoyed it. The duck was nice and tender and pulled apart. Service was a little slow and we did wait almost an hour for our food but the restaurant was full. Some of the other guests didn't enjoy their food as much and found it a bit too fragrant (or perfumey as they described). The basil noodles looked amazing too and that went down very well.
Meera Naik
Not too sure why we decided to drive all the way to Lagoon beach for Thai food, but it was definitely worth it.

The decor is minimalistic and the seating arrangements could be slightly better. Our service on the other hand was really good.

I had the most delicious wok - fried cashew nut dish. It was bursting with flavor and left me feeling so satisfied! The price that you pay for the meal is definitely worth it for the quality that you get. If it wasn't so far, I would definitely go here more often.
Claudia Penny
The first thing that strikes you about Wang Thai is the location. Situated on the beach, with an awesome view, this is ideal for a special Summery evening.

The service was good. Our waiter was attentive and I LOVED that he brought us 6 full glasses of water and a jug for refills at a later stage.

The food is authentic, spicy and pretty damn Thai. I enjoyed my krapao gai and everyone else enjoyed their meals. Special mention to the Tom Yum which was so full of flavor.

I didn't really notice the drinks menu too much, as we took our own wine, but they do have Singha beer!

Wang Thai is slightly more upmarket but the food is great for the prices you pay.
Shannon Van Heerden
Absolutely delicious! Waited a while for the food to arrive but that was due to the restaurant being very busy and we had arrived later than usual. A must try!
Coral Le Roux
We haven't been here for a while, but always enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and gorgeous view. The wind was up last night, but it was still pleasant. I had the roasted duck with ginger and coconut. The duck was very nicely cooked, and I actually enjoyed it a lot more than on the 2 previous occasions where I had it at very upmarket restaurants, so well done there. Unfortunately I had to send the stir-fried veg side back, as it was very anaemic-looking, with just cabbage, cauliflower and carrots, which were dry with no seasoning. The waiter was very friendly and chatted to us about our Rottweilers who were sitting on the grass on the other side of the wall. This is a great Summer spot, and I suggest you book on a good day, as it can get really busy.
Cavin Arendse
I love thailand and coming to wang thai in milnerton... Wow its the best views of sunset while enjoying great meal which always takes me back to thailand an the food I would eat over there. This place comes highly reccomended
Jacqui Wallendorf
Really disappointed by the lack lustre service, poor quality of food and general noise within the restaurant - we came for a special occasion and our poor poor service absolutely killed the experience!! First and last visit from us ever!!
Angus
This is about the only half decent restaurant on the coastal strip once you leave the cbd until you get to Blouberg. It's a good location particularly during the day when there are magnificent views over the lagoon, sea and if you stretch your neck Table Mountain.
Even just stopping in for sundowners on the deck is worthwhile. There's usually a very mixed bag of clientèle just soaking up the sea and sun.
We have just been for dinner:
First off the waiters are all really friendly and attentive. Even booking a table was pleasant.
I've never been a big fan of their curries which I find sometimes a bit ordinary and this time was no exception. The rest of the food though was really good. Spinach cones are definitely recommended, the dim sum was good, tempura prawns starter was generous and the prawns were crispy but not overdone, though the batter was a bit greasy for proper tempura. Salmon roses and hand rolls were both delicious.
It's not 5 star cuisine but it is definitely above average and good value for money with a widely varied menu.
That and its location keep me going back when I'm in the area.
Christine Du Toit
We had lunch at this beautiful setting. The view is excellent. The restaurant can be a bit noisy. The service was very poor but the food compensated for it and therefore the rating. The peanut fish (kingklip) was excellent and bursting with flavour. Their corn fritters and vegetable spring rolls are always a winner as a starter.
Tiara Jorissen
Came to wang thai for my birthday dinner, Must say it was very busy for a Tuesday night . Lovely views of the sea and great atmosphere. There were 10 of us and our waiter was so helpful helping us decide what to order. Tried a drink that our waiter said was from Thailand which was very different. Overall we had a great night.
Beverley Silkstone
Had a wonderful lunch there yesterday.started are 13h00 and ended at 19h00.:-) the atmosphere and service were very good , with a spectecular view of the lagoon. The bonus was watching the yachts sail passed. The food was varied and really well prepared. You get an option of mild medium and hot. As I haven't been there before I opted for mild. But could have managed medium. I had the litchi curry. Generous portions all round. Will definitely recommend this and come again.
Avtaar Mohanlall
Kept to the quality of the franchise, add a an awesome view of the beach and you have a great combination.

The place wasn't that busy when we got there so we received good service throughout our dining experience
Mandy Jones
After desperately missing Thailand and their cuisine, I decided to try out our local Wang Thai at the Lagoon Beach hotel. After hearing so much about it and some mixed reviews, I tried it myself and was pleasantly surprised. They have quite an extensive menu, from sushi and dim sum, to your noodle, rice and Thai curry dishes. Their wine is affordable and they have a good variety to choose from.

I had some sushi to start off with, and although it was not the best I've had, it was still fresh and tasty. Their dim sum was also worth trying, but unfortunately was a bit cold. I loved the assortment of spring rolls, these were particularly good, and the dipping plum and sweet chilli sauce paired so nicely!

As a main, my partner and I shared the chicken and prawn fried rice and the prawn Phad Thai.. It tasted very similar to what we had in Thailand, so definitely a winner there!

The only thing I would say negatively affected my experience was that the food was cold and the restaurant a bit too loud and noisy for my liking, but for the food, I'd definitely go back. Very affordable and tasty.
Daniel Rubin
We were given a gift voucher for R1000.00 as a 25th wedding anniversary
gift. On arrival at Wang Thai we informed them
that we had a gift voucher. At the end of the
meal we presented the gift vouch for payment of
a bill that came to R639.00 and we're told that
sorry if you don't spend the full amount the
balance is forfeited. We did not expect any
money back but to put the balance on the
voucher for later use would have been nice or at
least to have been pre-warned about the policy.
The lady in charge was quite unpleasant about
the whole thing and the sad part about it all is
that it is a restaurant that we go to fairly
regularly. We left feeling that the policy is
dishonest and if that is their position it should
be stated on the voucher so that we have a
choice. The car guard outside would have
enjoyed a hot meal.

The last time I'd been to Wang Thai was a year ago for their curry special and I was back, by chance, this year again a year apart (see old review scored 4/5 below). This time was quite a disappointment. The waiters were slack. We had to ask for things repeatedly. The food was fine enough, but the service really let it down this time, I'm sad to say.

My last review June 2016. I'm a huge Thai food fan and cook a lot myself. As a result, I'm pretty picky when it comes to eating Thai food out. Have had Wang Thai's chicken Penang curry twice now and it has never disappointed. Perfect amount of spice. The waiters are always upbeat and on the ball.
Ilhaam Laamy Nazier
Amazing Thai restaurant overlooking the beach. Romantic vibe with great atmosphere and scenery. Sushi menu was delish, especially my favourite salmon roses and prawn tempura. Perfect time out to unwind.
Lian Smit
Had dinner with my family there for my birthday a few years back. The litchi duck curry I had is still one of the best curries I have ever had. Would definitely recommend.
Dani
My favorite Thai restaurant in the Cape, right by the beach, The pad Thai is to die for. Fantastic atmosphere and lovely staff always an absolute pleasure
Deon Van Der Westhuizen
Closest to Thailand you can get in SA. Awesome food, good vibe :-) Perfect for date nights. Location is great, make sure to come at sunset to enjoy.
Lara Maré
We went early on a Friday and by 19:30 it was packed so definitely make a booking! Awesome Service from the waiters, friendly and very helpful! Definitely try the vegetable spring rolls and sushi!!
David Taylor
My first experience of Wang Thai was pleasant. My boss and I needed a dinner and he's staying at the Lagoon Beach hotel, it's super convenient. There were no tables immediately available and we hadn't made a reservation, so we're sent to the bar. Within 15min we're at a table. I ordered a beef green curry and rice, which was well seasoned and bursting with flavour. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Prices aren't bad either and the menu selection is very wide. Will definitely be back, this time with a reservation.
Bev Moss-Reilly
Unfailingly consistent in terms of food and service and of course a great location thrown into the mix at no extra cost. The fragrant spices used make every dish extremely flavoursome.Prices are fair and one is always assured of a superb meal no matter what one orders.A firm favourite that earns a big YES from me.
Jacques Farmer
I've been here a few times. Stunning view and a lekker vibe. The food is very good, but unfortunately the portions is a bit on the small side for me, but then again, I'm a big eater. The service was adequate, but I don't see any employee of the month recommendations in the near future. Every time we've been there we had to remind the waiter that somebody was either missed when ordering or haven't received anything to eat or drink yet. Maybe it was just because we were a large group, but then again... this place is expensive, so you should be entitled to good service.
Adrian Kaplan
Service is good and the restaurant offers fantastic views! I had a sushi starter and veg soring rolls - you get 6 spring rolls but they are tiny cocktail size ones. I had the honey chicken for main which was tasty and a good size portion.
Glynn Pearson
Great restaurant if you're looking for Asian food. My only negative remark is that the restaurant is quite hot and stuffy inside with minimal ventilation.
Clint Payne
My new favourite thing, Tamarind Prawns. Yum yum. Dad had the Green Curry. Very hot. D had the mushroom and tofu cashew curry. Yummy Pad Thai too.
Michael Lotter
One of my favorite places for sundowners in Cape Town. Have a mezze platter with spring rolls, wontons, chicken satay for starters and sushi or a curry for main. On hot days get a spot outside and order a bottle of Buitenverwachting Buiten Blanc and you visit will be complete
Dana Booth
Very tasty, delicious food. We tried the combo platter, sushi, green curry and chocolate spring rolls and would recommend it all and order it again. Every dish we had was great. The service was excellent, our waiter recommended good dishes and was attentive throughout the meal. Stunning view as well
Lloyd Williams
Vibey atmosphere complimented with fine Thai Dining and Asian Fusion.

I love the variety of wine available, the 'never disappointing' combo platter (starter) and Roti Song Sri (Thai Roti Main)

A deliciously yummy all round experience!

This is the place to go to where you are in the mood for good Thai food with a stunning view! And if you time it right you can enjoy your drinks while waiting for your food and enjoying a stunning sunset.
The Geang Butternut chicken was good and the sushi is also yummy! Want to go back for a romantic sunset dinner and try the Combo Platter looks like a great platter to share!

Absolutely amazing food with very attentive staff! Only issue: due to being so full, you often wait some time to get your food. It is well worth the wait, however, and the views are stunning.

This was the first ever restaurant we dined at on our first ever visit to South Africa . I wasn't expecting the quality of Thai to match my expectations but I was pleasantly surprised.the sushi lacked nothing and the ready of the food was good too. A very good memorable start to a wonderfully fantastic holiday!

Stunning place ! Food is delicious, had a tom yum soup, and a chicken litchi curry with rice! The staff was great and food arrived quite quickly. The view is pretty and all in all great atmosphere.

Lagoon Beach is a rather underrated area of Cape Town, stuck as it is next to the industrial area of Paarden Island. But it is on the beach and lagoon with wonderous views of Table Mountain, and so near the CBD! Wang Thai was busy and we got the last table indoor, as we thought it a bit chilly for outdoors in spite of the gas heaters burning warmly.
Our order was taken by a waiter who announced that he was not our waiter, which I appreciated, but it was the precursor to very slow service and food delivery. This could so easily have been alleviated by a breadbasket, or prawn crackers or some other eastern nibble. We ordered tempura starters. The batter was too heavy and oily to really be called tempura which should be very light, but I was with my teenage daughter and her boyfriend who had been body boarding and surfing all day, and they were ravenous, making the food disappear very quickly. We made up our own sushi platter for our main course. The sushi was good, but the mayo was a bit sparse, and we love our Kewpie mayo, so we asked for extra. We were told that we would be charged R5 for the extra mayo. Now, R5 is not an issue for me, but lack of generosity certainly is! And the absence of the "breadbasket" suddenly made sense too...

Only been here twice and had one good and one bad experience.

Wang Thai has a beautiful views and is a gorgeous place to be on a warm summers day, with outside area being smoking and non smoking inside.

Food was fantastic both times I have visited there and their sushi is delicious and fresh.... My favourite Starter being the Medley of Dim Sum's and Main is the 607, Phad Cha with Beef...

The bad experience we had with them was purely based on service.. I took a potential client there for lunch, he ordered a sushi platter and I got my usual with the two other people that joined also ordered noodles - all the noodle dishes arrived but not the sushi, we waited about another 5 - 10min for the sushi to arrive but still no luck eventually the waiter came to the table and we asked where the sushi was he returned 5min later and said they were busy with it Loong story short the sushi never arrived we placed the order 3times twice with the waiter and once with the Manager and it was STILL a bugger up and what was most frustrating is the Manager was not even friendly trying to correct the problem, she didn't even apologise for the mess...

Other than the lack of service everything else was great...

Very pleasant setting overlooking an artificial sort of bay. Service great, the food, a wide variety, my meal just a Tom Yung Soup almost as good as Kinneria a Thai Resturant in Edenvale. I had some starters too
