Review Mykonos Taverna - Cape Town Central

Nompumelelo Mgidlana
The food looked and smelled sooo divine I forgot to take photos! That just means I NEED TO GO BACK!! We went late at night and it was lovely. If it is your birthday they sing for you (yay!). No playes were broken though. It is a family restaurant which feels warm and looks authentic. We ordered 3 meals and shared among ourselves to taste everything. We had the lamb chops (so juicy and succulent); the chicken fillet with feta and parmesan (rich, creamy and delightful) and we had the seafood trio (thinking about the fish makes me want to have it all over again. The highlight was the kingklip; the calamari was great to but the prawns were just above average). I would rate the food an 8.5 out of 10. They also have homemade chilli (bonus!)

I love Greek food and don't often get the chance to eat it, so was delighted to find Mykonos on a recent visit to Sea Point. The staff were warm, friendly and welcoming and we had excellent service throughout the evening from all waiters, not just the one who was allocated to our table . I actually complimented the manager on the level of service as it was so good. Food was very good, served quickly and was really tasty. We had a selection of mezze which was a great way to taste different things. The calamari tubes were especially delicious as were the triangles filled with feta. But it was all delicious. I've only given 4 stars for the atmosphere as it was rather empty, think it needs more people to give some vibe. But a really good evening anyway.

Long established Sea Point eaterie. Standard, non fussy good quality Greek style food. Large portion of tasty Kleftiko and and silky mash potato. Fish combo could have been hotter when served, just on the edge of it being sent back. Will, of course go back.
Yasmin Houssein
Food was average Service was excellent - specially our waiter Kennedy who was very helpful. The team has some way to go to improve the food and nail it as authentic Greek but at least they have a good team of waiters in place to deliver that.
Mark Stillerman
I’ve been here before and I don’t remember it to be as good as it was this time. It was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The lamb yiro is amazing. We shared a few dishes and all of them were really really good. I heard that they may be closing and or moving some time soon. I hope they move and don’t close down because this is a really top Greek restaurant in Sea Point. Phone and book because it is popular and gets very busy.

Best Greek food in Cape Town. The Mezze is always so delicious and tastes exactly as it would in Greece. A must try restaurant. Wonderful variety and everything flavourful and delicious.
Harald Schmidtke
Really great setting, great atmosphere, friendly service, and awesome food. I just had the Mousakka, with rice & salad. It was very good.
Stuart Makris
Had a great dinner tonight. Got the mezze plate to share for 2 people. Service was 100%, loved our server. Fun restaurant too.
Chantele Ralph
One of my favourite Greek restaurants. We always order the platter for 4. Great value for money
Sasha Beharilal
Gorgeous restaurant. We had the Mykonos Mezze Platter for two - cannot fault a single item on this platter. It was delicious. Food - 5/5 Service - 5/5
Louise Corrans
We ate there last night and got huge value for money! Food is generous and hearty and authentically Greek! Service was attentive. We loved it. It's not a fancy restaurant, but well worth it for Greek cuisine.

I have been going to Mykonos Taverna ever since it was a take away back in the day. The food has always been simply amazing and very tasty. Since it reopened 20 years ago it has gone from strength to strength. The signature dish (lamb shank) is simply irresistible and the calamari is the best in town. Food portions are more than reasonable and everything is fresh. Great festive atmosphere and super-efficient and friendly staff. Always a winner.
Melanie Erasmus
Really friendly, vibrant atmosphere- will definitely be back!

Love the mezzo platters here

After reading all the reviews on this restaurant, we decided to try it out. We pitched up without a reservation and even though the place was packed, they happily made a plan and accommodated us. Staff were friendly, very attentive and food was served really quickly. They even kept our one year old busy and entertained him so that we could quickly eat our meals. Baklava was amazing! Great place and hats off to the awesome staff. Keep it up.

Food was amazing from starters to desert, good size portions, everything is fresh and tasty.
Staff friendly and very attentive. Prices are responsible. Will definitely recommend the restaurant for a good night out.
Atmosphere great!
Nicole
Went to this restaurant with a friend for lunch. The staff are friendly and it had a very chilled ambiance. I ordered the lamb chops, with potato mash and veggies and my friend ordered baby chicken with the same sides. The portion sizes were good (the baby chicken was not so baby lol) and the food was really delicious! I really enjoyed my meal. My friend enjoyed his as well! Overall very pleasant experience.

I wasn’t a greek food fan until I tried this place!!!
Please do yourself a favour and order lamb :)

They have clean white decor with very attentive service from waiters. This place can be extremely busy or even fully booked. Please book the table if you going after payday or in summer high season.

Other food I can recommend are vegetarian gyro and calamari! Oh they are delicious!
Their ribs and chicken are okay, not wow.

A quick walk away from our home and we love it here. Simple and clean decor with a touch of fairy light magic. Greek music. Delicious food. The mezze is so yummy. Tarama, dolmades and spanakopita are a must have. The lamb gyro, the youvetsi and the sardines with a greek salad are firm favourites. Fresh and beautiful food. Bravo.

A review from a Greek herself: my favourite Greek restaurant in Cape Town.

The food is amazing! Absolutely love the mezzes and the gyros - they’ve also got the pita bread just right. We always used to enjoy a good Mythos in the sunset but unfortunately they don’t stock them anymore. However, the service is always good though and they do plate-breaking some Saturday evenings too, which is great for functions. Highly recommend!
Monica Fernandes
Came here on a date night with my boyfriend. The atmosphere was perfect for such an occasion- dimly lit room with fairy lights and candles twinkling. The decor was also very unique. For starters I got a portion of spanakopitas which were crisp and divine. My boyfriend ordered a beef shwarma for mains - I wish I gotten this myself as the pita was so fresh.
I ordered the moussaka main which was very disappointing due to it being burnt and very dry. However I was extremely impressed with how the manager handled the situation, as he went to investigate the situation and took the meal off of our bill.
I would definitely come back for the mezzes and shwarmas
Yajna Gold
LOVE, love, love! The haloumi starter, the vegetarian dishes, the baklava! It is amazing! I love the food and the atmosphere of this quaint little Greek restaurant where they even break plates on special nights! I especially love the chicken pitas/shwarmas and the tzatziki!
Sydney King
I’m a sucker for Greek food and Mykonos Taverna offers so really yummy Greek cuisine.

The eggplant dip is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS !

I wish there was a tad more selection tapas wise, but what they have on offer is all good :)

Thank goodness we fell across the road from our not acceptable interaction at Bella Italia (see that review) into Mykonos. All of us had schwarmas which were delicious. Day saved.

To my beloved followers, family and friends

I am blessed to have the chance to write this review and will forever be grateful for this opportunity.

I was fortunate enough to stumble across the beauty of Mykanos.

And no, dear followers, not Greece;)

Just on the beautiful sea point main road - what a place.

Our guests arrived half an hour late, however this didn't spoil the mood.

Blessed followers, the food was fantastic, the service was outstanding, and the company was great.

A variety of Greek dishes are on offer, my favourite and personal recommendation : the Greek salad (haha oh guys you know I'm just pulling your leg!)

My taste buds were overwhelmed by the delicious open chicken souvlaki at a reasonable R120, and company that was priceless!

10/10 would recommend an evening at mykanos with your loved ones.

Peace, love and good food always
Marc and Ari
X

This place is freaking amazing! Portions are huge, food is tasty and the atmosphere is vibey. Leaving so full and satisfied, really enjoyable. We will certainly be back for more!

I'm a huge fan of this restaurant and especially greek. However in this case they dropped the ball. The meat was flavourful but far too greasy. The chips were also oily. We had the lamb souvlakis both. In any event, the venue and service is still excellent. Looking forward to a better experience next time!
Catherine Zachariou
One of my favorite restaurants in Cape Town. Delicious, authentic Greek food in a lively environment. Definitely try the Youvetsi and the platter for four, highly recommended.

As popular as it may be, it's really not easy to find good meze style Greek food. You will though at this little taverna on sea point main road. It's good value for money and fairly consistent all round.
Although I have been many times over the last couple of years I've never actually eaten past the meze section - but in this regard, I would recommend trying it all. The only exception made, is for spare ribs which dont actually feature on the menu. A bit strange as a choice in a Greek restaurant but a rather delicious one at that!!!
Jessica Stromin
I've heard lots of good things about Mykonos Taverna, so was very glad to try it out. We started our meal off with a village Greek salad and some meze - calamari, squid heads and tiropita - and followed it with chicken sovlaki. Delicious, quality food. Service was a bit slow.
Steven Bloom
Came here last night for a friend's birthday celebration. What a fantastic place! Not only was the service top notch (we were a table of around 14 and the restaurant was busy) but the food was incredible. I had the baby chicken (it was a full sized adult). The food was incredible.
Zoe Tyropolis
such a delight, delicious greek food, wasn't too keen on it at first but definitely have no regrets of going there, i've now been there multiple times and i love it. such a friendly atmosphere- which is the cherry on top
Natalie Lazaris
It's not because I'm Greek, it's because it's good. Traditional taverna with traditional layout and food. Wine served in caraf and meze platters to share...with the Greek music in the background, the atmosphere is lively and fun. A nice look and feel...you could be in Greece somewhere. Good experience overall.
Pusm
I visited the restaurant for dinner in couple. We had a mixed platter of mezze, a mussaka and a dish of mini pasta with pulled lamb meat. Everything very tasty and with a light feel to it, after dinner we didn't feel heavy at all. It was pleasant also to sit on the veranda on sea point. Maybe the lights could be better adjusted and the oil candles could be avoided. In general I don't like sitting at a table where I have to breath a chemical burning oil . Food wise though nothing to complain about, even better than many restaurants in Greece.
Jill Casserley
Great Value for money. Generous portions. Great for group dining. Food was good almost authentic. Definitely going there again. Pity no Greek wine 🍷.
John Townsend
We visited the establishment on Sunday evening the 16th April. Although I had booked there did not appear to be any record of our booking on the spreadsheet. Anyway we were seated and then basically ignored by ALL waiters for about 40 minutes until we eventually stood up and left and went and ate at the restaurant next door. I can understand restaurants and waiters getting busy but it is important to make three points. Firstly a number of waiters passed by our table on no less than 27 occasions and completely ignored us, this is not the behaviour of a slick functioning unit with customer service at the centre. Secondly, there was NO evidence of any management, if there was then the individual was extremely incapable. Thirdly, the waited that seated us noticed us leaving and made no attempt to correct the situation. Oh and sorry, I do not believe that it is my responsibility as a customer to get the attention of the staff! Very, very disappointing will need to look for another Greek restaurant
Amaryllis
This is my happy place of a restaurant. I leave satisfied, every time. Their chilli sauce is my kryptonite (I can literally eat it with a spoon it's so good). The environment is relaxed, welcoming, family-friendly, and alive. Service can be slow and a bit erratic depending on how busy the night is, but it's never felt rude or apathetic so it's never bothered me. Their food is amazing, and I am always excited to go back. Five stars because of the shameless fake vine on the ceiling!
Loyiso Tando Balfour
Finally tried out this restaurant which has always been exceptionally busy whilst driving past and now we know why. Even though it was quite full for a Saturday night their service was impeccable. I was also very impressed by their food with fresh ingredients, home made everything, and original menu. We ordered the mezze platter for 2 and were left very satisfied a special mention about their calamari and aubergine dishes which were outstanding. The ambiance is uniquely Greek as well and very lively. A very down-to-earth and overall great restaurant, a must try.
Mikaila Keeves
Amazing food and wonderful service, strongly recommend if you love Greek food. The platters and gyro's are stunning and the lamb is so soft and tasty.
Elle
I tried to book a table for 8 people and Dimitri told me to email them as they don't take bookings over the phone. I emailed several times before receiving a reply. When they finally responded it was clearly typed in a hurry and said the booking will only be confirmed once a deposit is paid, I emailed several times to ask for the bank details and to this day have not received a reply. Therefore, I cannot comment on the food but the management can learn something about customer care.
Epikoros
Busy and buzzing standard Greek fare. Sardines are coated in flour and fried. Lamb gyros served in a paper bag on plate. Grilled calamari tender and tasty.

One of the stalwarts of Sea Point and definitely a better option than any of the takeaway spots in the area.
Jill Nudelman
Told my friends I went to Mykonos. Sigh... I wish; but this place is authentic enough - I imagine, decorated in the obligatory blue and white with Greek music playing in the background. Luckily no plate breaking. Really pleasant for a family lunch on a hot Sunday in Sea Point. Service was excellent; management was visible; the meze very nice. Cumin spiced meatballs excellent.
The wine: Springfield Chardonnay wild yeast 2014. Delicious!
Baby seats available.
Sumendra Chetty
Having heard amazing things about Greek restaurants you can imagine my glee when I was taken to one for a late lunch! Firstly- there's just a lovely, family feel to this place. The interior is unassuming and all the more charming for it! The menu is delightful as well. I was super impressed with the platter options and this is what we went for- a little bit of everything! The dolmades were my favourite item off the menu- super tasty! I hope that I get to visit many times over!
Michael Teichmann
Friendly waiters who were very professional and prompt, great food, great restaurant. Something just needs to be done about the beggars off the street bothering us whilst eating our food. But other than that we will definitely be back again ! 👍
Mark Trevena
First visit to this spot and can hardly fault it! Had the Lamb Shank and it was fall-off-the-bone mind blowing! Everyone at the table had really great things to say about their food too! Definitely worth a visit!
Sara Krunic
My friend and I went to this place for a late Sunday lunch and it was superb. We had their shawarma's which were so delicious and a glass of wine - the day was well spent
Catherine
A great spot, quite vibey with delicious food. Service is efficient and friendly. The calamari with a proper Greek salad (not a lettuce leaf in sight) was a winner for me, and the husband thoroughly enjoyed his halloumi gyro. Well worth a visit.
Elize Cloete
Wonderful service and vibe
I love the eclectic Greek decor and the menu on the board
Excellent use of space

The breakfast was spectacular
Definitely a must if on the promenade
Julia Da Silva
Our weekly Sunday lunch spot and the best place to eat, drink and be merry with friends. Excellent Greek food - not overly sophisticated but simple and delicious - craft beer on tap, always happy with the service and extremely consistent. Try the mezze platter, youvetsi, grilled calamari or chicken souvlaki and finish off with some sticky baklava.
Jemal
Another Greek restaurant discovered for the first time. Very nice vibe and feel to the restaurant. Service isn't the friendliest, but the food made up for it!!! Really good food. (Perhaps have the waitrons at least smile every now and then). But I would definitely recommend it for a supper out with friends or even a romantic evening.
Jonathan Holmes
Consistently awesome! If you're searching in Sea Point for fantastic food at a reasonable price and a buzzing atmosphere, this is your place. Try a meze platter as a meal, if you're two, or as a starter if you're more. The little meatballs and tsatziki, baby squid, haloumi and eggplant dip are pure yumminess... I also love their crispy sardines as a starter. And don't forget their grilled calamari stuffed with feta, rich and flavorful. You might have to go several times because the lemony kleftiko that falls off the bone is also a must :) Just one note, the last couple of times I noticed their lamb chops portion has shrunk, so rather go for the kleftiko... Maybe we'll see them grow again soon...?? I love this place. You won't be disappointed!
Nikita Cloete
Great atmosphere, friendly service and tasty Greek food! 😊 Enjoyed the Greek night which happens once a month, simply felt the music was too loud as I struggled to hear my friends at our table outside.
Magically Nick
Mykonos Taverna always delivers a great meal, with a decidedly Hellenic motif. The food does not disappoint. Having tasted dozens of Gyros from the islands of Greece, chef Dimitri's dishes are on the top of the list. Passion and love for Greek food is evident in the food.
Lindie White
This place is a sure win whatever the occasion. Despite having been at least 6 times in the past few months, we have never been disappointed. Food is served quickly and is always tasty. The Melitzanes and Lamb or Pork skewers are highly recommended as are the Gyros. Greek cuisine at its lemony best.
Chevalier Noir
Mykonos is a good and reliable Greek resto. We also tried as take away and results was good. We particularly appreciated that, once notified of the missing plate, they came to deliver it at our place.

While most plates are tasty, they may not always be super light but that's part of the Greek cuisine. A bit less of cream in spinash or oil in the vegetables would be a nice improvement though. But their food is tasty and a real pleasure.

They have proven to be kids friendly, which was a real plus for us.
JotterJo
I am a serious Greek food fiend and almost always go for the calamari. Mykonos Taverna serves authentic Greek cuisine with a few other items on the side.
I chose the grilled calamari and my friend had the chicken wrap. Very tasty.
Interior is bright, light & sunny.
Opa!!
Cristina Russo
Idyllic authentic setting with mouthwatering food ranging from mezzes to mains accompanied by perhaps the freshest and tastiest tzatziki. I highly recommend the chicken souvlaki which is succulent and flavorful. Beautiful restaurant and beautiful simple food.
Gabriel Stein
Wow!!! Absolutely amazing family restaurant!!

Food: incredibly tasty, no one at my table was disappointed and we all had different dishes. The portion are very well sized for their prices from starters through to dessert.

Service: although the waiters aren't warm necessarily warm, they are extremely quick and efficient with perfect kitchen to table time and sufficient periods between courses. Also the staff were very well mannered and I was amazed when they came and brought my table a complimentary piece of cake for the birthday girl.

The restaurant has an authentic feel to it but definetely not a place to come for a fancy dinner, basically just a family lunch. Over all, no reason not to give it a full rating as I just had an over all amazing experience here.
Mark Goldberg
So We ordered 4 meals - all were very tasty and good however service was way below average!
My wife found 2 pieces of plastic in her meal- they were the type of plastic that hold price tags on your clothing ! 2 of them!
We showed the waiter who intern called the owner who said it was from the lamb and that it was free and walked off all smug!
Now wether or not this is the case is irrelevant as there was plastic in the food!
We then ordered a malva pudding for dessert (should have known better) but it was definitely not from this week- was stale!
The attitude of the owner and waiter was arrogance and as a restaurant owner myself I am very tolerant as I understand the industry- maybe he will learn in time about keeping your regulars.
Fred Levy
My Greek lamb portion was served cold first time and it took 30 mins before it was replaced again cold. Assistant manager said "they were busy." Not highly recommended.
Molecules And Macaroons
We stopped by this Greek gem late on a Sunday night and were received by the most enthusiastic young waiter. He informed us that he had only been working there for a few days and had very little experience with Greek food. Despite this fact, he gave excellent recommendations and his service topped off a fantastic evening filled with delicious flavourful food.

The yuvetsi was my highlight. The sauce was rich and the lamb wonderfully tender. The seafood platter was fresh with hints of lemon making it the perfect choice for a summer evening.

Although the setting isn't particularly fancy, the simplicity of the well executed Mediterranean cooking and the genuinely friendly service makes Mykonos a must visit.
CLEM Arnoldus (PHUZZY187)
Not a bad place had a good vibe, but the food could be a bit better I have been to many Greek restaurants but this one will have to be rated in the bottom of the pack thus far
St John Grimbly
Mykonos Taverna offers an authentic Greek experience. I order the grilled chicken every time I come here - it is that good. The meat is so perfectly cooked and seasoned that I can't help but reorder the dish. The service has a homely and welcoming feel to it, allowing the guest to just relax while enjoying someone else's company. Great food, good service and an enjoyable atmosphere.

90%
Michael Nurick
A great restaurant with an awesome vibe. Both my starters and main course were well prepared and tasty. The service was good and everyone at our table had a great time.

I highly recommend if you are in the Sea Point area.
Chantelle Lamusse
Had a dinner without a booking ... Food was good service wasn't so great on the other hand !!! My boyfriend ate the lamb shank and I ate the lamb and hallumi pie ;) taste was all round good not great! Decor a bit outdated but been there done that...
Kristen George
Lovely little gem in the heart of Sea Point and love that it's within walking distance from my apartment. Food is bursting with flavour and so tasty. Got there a bit late so only opted for a few mezzes. The pita bread is wafer thin and so delicious. The village green salad is fresh and salad for 1 was enough for 2 people. Very reasonably priced, generous portions and seriously good food. Waiters were very attentive and food came out very quickly. Looking forward to go back soon.
Gary Greenberg
Let me start by saying this place probably had one of the worst youngster waiters to date. His attitude was appalling as he was disinterested and just forgot about us most of the evening. This restaurant needs better ventilation as it is very hot inside during the peak season and heat wave. However, the food we ordered was all-round very well prepared and tasty. There is a good variety for vegetarians here like most greek and mediterranean restaurants.
Kirsty Donald
I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at Mykonos Taverna! It was a scorcher of a day and we were seated inside not near any windows or doors so it was very warm. However the atmosphere was great and the food even better and very well priced.

I tried the pasta rice with lamb which was very tasty but quite rich for me. Their hummus is probably the best I've tasted and I highly recommend trying it.

Their portions are good and the food is the next best thing to being invited to a Greek spit.
Henri Martens
I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this place. They were extremely busy the evening we were there, I guess being season and all and they managed to make a plan for a table for myself and two friends who had not booked. Service was not the best from an attentive point of view but the waiter got the job done with the numerous tables I saw her attending too. Food came out in fair time for the business of the place and as we like to eat small dishes and share it is generally more time consuming to prepare. Everything we had was delicious from spanakopitas to the keftedes. Slouvaki to the the dolmades. I can highly recommend this place as mezze/tapas are always a great social vibe and way forward.
Bruno Antonio
I was there for new years eve, food was average, service was worse than a soup kitchen. Portion sizes were really small and my party of 8 felt really ripped off! When we tried to speak to the manager he refused to come and talk to us. Eventually we spoke to owner, Dimitri, and mentioned our concerns, all he said was "be happy with what you got, you will not get anything more for R450 for a set menu tonight anywhere else".
Starters were a mediocre salad followed by some stale pita bread and a small portion of calamari which was like fried rubber. Mains were a fillet steak, which even after I mentioned 3 times to the waiter not to have any sauce or basting on, the steak came with sauce. After complaining they switched it, but it still had their house basting. Desert was suppose to be malva pudding but it was more like a dry brownie that we received and was sized like a miniature French style macaroon. Small is actually an under statement as it was merely the size of a sushi maki. We should have at least received chop sticks to eat it with.
Furthermore, bathroom facilities were absolutely disgusting. It smelt foul, sporting vomit everywhere. Bathroom door was also blood stained. Perhaps they mistook their bathroom as a slaughter house for main their course.
To add insult to injury we had to deal with the owner's family who sat across from us gossiping how we dared to complain of their Japanese/French wanna be Greek restaurant.
Needless to say that I will never be returning to this atrocious, filthy and badly managed restaurant again
Shez
Mykonos has a really viby atmosphere. My dish was really good which was the chicken souvlaki. The only thing I wish they had every evening would be the breaking of the plates and Greek dancing as that's always something I enjoy when going Greek!
Mark Van Den Berg
This restaurant never disappoints! Authentic vibe and excellent food! Try the grill platter and greek table salad and you will be licking your fingers!!
Jason Hoff
Very good atmosphere. The food was delicious. We had the lamb chops with a salad. We treated ourselves to the choc malva pudding with ice cream. Both dishes were served very quickly. Great service

First time eating here and it was a brilliant evening. We were welcomed in at the entrance by the host and sat at our table. We were only 5 of us and got placed at a table of 8. It was too big and we requested to switch tables and it was done with no questions asked. Our waitress was excellent, very knowledgeable and ensured that we had a great meal. My wife and I shared fried haloumni and feta and spinach spinakopitas to start and for mains I had the lamb shwarma and my wife had the lamb shank. Both were absolutely brilliant and the taste-wise it was phenomenal and can't stop talking about it. I snuck in an ice cream and bar one sauce to finish off my meal, great way to finish. I'll definitely be back.
Galia
Consistent and the food is delicious. The starters, platters and slow cooked lamb are particularly good. The service is quick and child friendly. Also good value for money. We love it!
Lexi
One of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town. The food is consistently delicious and of a high standard. The Mezze platter is my particular favourite. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and inviting. Their Greek evening once a month is particularly an event not to be missed. Good to know they also cater for home functions.
Bryan Vally
Their food is simple, unpretentious and rather tasty - at a very good price. The atmosphere is friendly and vibrant. A solid choice for a relaxed meal, although not a "wow" experience. Mykonos would make a great "local", and if I lived in Sea Point it would be mine.
Greg Christy
One of my favorite Greek Restaurants in Cape Town.
Food and Service always good !! Chicken Melanzanie and Schwarmas were outstanding . Halva Ice Cream is the bomb !!
David Graham
I have been twice - once for dinner and another for one of their special greek nights. On both occasions, I could honestly say the food didn't blow me away. The staff are what make this place, and if you go a break some plates with them, it is a great night out.
Foodster CT
Didn't sample too much but what we did have was quite average. We tried the sardines which were tasty and the lamb souvlaki. The lamb was clearly left to marinate on it's skewers for some time; The meat itself completely taking on the flavour of whatever (msg-like) spice and dried herb mix was used. Better meat at Spiro's in Hout Bay.
Awie Erasmus
Another local favourite! Affordable Greek delight with great vibe. Attended one of their plate breaking evenings - too much fun. Their Meze platters are fantastic!

Go ahead, try it if you haven't yet.
Laura Kloppers
Great Greek restaurant. Love the menu, delicious spanakopita.
Sarah` Kennedy
OUTSTANDING!!!!! Have only been here once but by far the best Greek restaurant I have ever been to haha and I've been to Greece. Such friendly staff and exceptional food!!!! The flavors are out of this world. I recommend getting a whole bunch of tapas so you get a little bit of everything.
Lori Claire Cape
I love this Greek restaurant. I had their calamari and it was delicious. The ambiance is really relaxing. I just don't like the location. Not a fan of sea point main road.
Tammy
We stumbled upon this place while looking for something that was open and had space for us and so glad that we did. They were very accommodating, we got to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. We had great service and delicious food.
Samukeliso Eneya
Amazing environment and quite accommodating .Went with friends and I had a blast .I was very impressed by their grilled chicken salad .however my friends didn't seem too impressed with the food.
Megan Thomas
Initially, the appeal of this restaurant was that it was actually open on a Sunday (which is more than I can say for quite a few other restaurants). However, I learnt pretty quickly that the food is its bread winner! It was delicious and was served in good time and without error. As a vegetarian, I was limited to two main meals, one of which was just a plain Greek salad, which isn't great and possibly my only gripe with the restaurant - but what I got was still really yummy. AND it's in Sea Point, which is one of my favorite areas at the moment. I'm so pleased that my first review can be such a positive one and believe me when I say I'm a food snob, so it wasn't ever going to be easy for them!
Justcruizing
Warm atmosphere followed by good hearty Greek dishes. Certainly worth a visit:)
Service levels above average but would love to see more of the owner.
Angie
I love this place!!!!
My family eat here often, we have never had a bad meal.
The souvlaki, calamari, meze platters are all fantastic. Dimitri makes the best hummus I have ever eaten.

YUM
Debi Malherbe
Well priced and good value for money. The cold aubergine starter and the lamb and halloumi pastries were very tasty. The kingklip was perfectly cooked and calamari was tender. The service was fair but could do with some improvement, overall it was a good experience.
Lauren Leigh
A little Sea Point institution. The food and service is good and consistent. The Greek salad, Keftedes and stuffed calamari are my favourites on the menu. In my opinion their mezze is better than their mains. I prefer to sit outside facing the street as inside feels like it needs a bit of an upgrade.
Joshua Herselman
Upon leaving a restaurant I had booked for my birthday due to their lack organisation and service we decided to go to Mykonos instead and it was an absolute blessing to say the least. Food delicious & served in a hot pan exactly like it would be in greece & awesome service was all I could ask for. Tops!

I have been coming to Mykonos for four years, I come at LEAST once every two weeks, the staff and owner have become good friends and like a second family to me and my boyfriend. I absolutely love everything about Mykonos! The kleftiko lamb is out of this world, the bar one cheese cake is a dream come true. On busy nights the wait can be a bit longer but it's always worth the wait :) the staff are always friendly and there's always a lovely atmosphere, especially on Greek Evenings (last Saturday of each month) we dance the night away and break plates. LOVE LOVE LOVE MYKONOS :) x

We were lucky enough to get a table on a busy friday night after another group didnt pitch for their booking... What a night! The vibe was amazing... And the food, oh how I wish I lived in Cape Town. It very rarely happens to us that when mains arrive, no one at the table has order envy... Everyone was so in love with the meal they ordered. Usually everyone is asking to try the others meal, but on this very night we were all giving bites away saying "you have to taste this" "NO but u have to taste mine" Well done Mykonos Taverna. The only reason why I didnt score the full 5 is because the waitress was a bit ditzy... Made a mistake or two and spilled wine all over the table, but we were so satisfied we just laughed it off... It almost added to the atmosphere. Thanks for a great evening.

Oh what a wonderful, traditional Greek restaurant! Service is warm and friendly, and there is nothing on the menu that I wouldn't try because the quality is delightful. I particularly enjoy their yuvetsi. If you would like to introduce yourself to this food style, Mykonos is the place to go :)

A sudden craving for Greek food lead me to this great restaurant! As many of the other reviews suggest - mykonos doesn't disappoint. I shared a meze platter with a friend and enjoyed every bite. Fresh and flavoursome food and on a student budget I can't say my money was wasted. I'd recommend Mykonos Taverna for a relaxed family dinner.

Tried this place because it is so local, and wanted to try authentic Greek.. and I wasnt disappointed! We sat on the verander, until the fairy lights which creates a great ambience! Our waiter, David was super good, efficient but didnt bother us. We shared the spanakopita and sardines, the former was by far my favourite ;) the souvlaki was fantastic for mains. Will be back very soon, also for the signature chilli sauce!

In my humble opinion this is the best most authentic Greek restaurant I have been to in a while, love my Greek food and Greek restaurants but @mykonostaverna blew my socks off with their amazing service, lovely looking staff and great ambiance, Devine Greek soft rhythmic music playing in the background; and the food was on another level. I had the Yuvetsi a lamb and orzo (pasta rice) dish that was so delicious I felt like I had a foodgasm everytime I had a mouth full, paired with a full bodies red wine... This foodie was in foodie heaven! An absolute must try!!!!! 1million stars to them. Perfect place to fall in love with food... Walking out the happiest human

Had the lamb souvlaki and Yuvestsi! The souvlaki was great but I swear to all that is holy, the Yuvestsi was probably the best Greek dish I have ever had! Don't order anything else!

Food was really tasty. I had the pork souvlaki. Also tasted the lamb souvlaki and chops and i could not fault it. However, the service was not up to scratch. The waiter was not very attentive. Otherwise, no complaints about the food.

Based on the food we had, which was really tasty, would have been able to give a higher mark if they would have had their baby chicken on the night - but alas. Service a bit shaky but the restaurant was full - a visit by the manager would have been nice. Altogether a good meal and would certainly recommend.

Beautiful relaxing environment. Food is absolutely glorious. The grilled chicken fillets where suculent and flavour filled. A real gem that offers great value for money!

Excellent Greek food! It's a great place to go with a large group on people, noisy is welcome and it seems like the kind of place where everyone can join in. The owner wanders around and greets everyone like an old friend, and the staff are friendly and always available. It's the kind of place that makes sitting in a cafe on main road Sea Point feel like a Greek taverna on Santorini, and you're a little surprised when you walk out and a taxi zooms past...

Only been here twice and both times I enjoyed the food. The baby chicken they offer is really delicious and great value and of coarse the shwarmas are always good. My wife still claims that Ari's souvlaki is the best for shwarmas but I am sold on this place. One of my favourites there as well is their home made chilli sauce...to die for and in fact bought a bottle. Highly reccommended and price wise not that unfair.

Great food, decor and service. I think the last Saturday of the month they do traditional Greek dancing and plate smashing - but you need to book as its very popular.

Menu has a great selection to choose from with true Greek cuisine and others. Choice of dishes is just enough to order something you truely craving without being overwhelmed!

Service was welcoming :) Restaurant is beautiful... Even Jeanie D from Top Billing rates Mykonos x
