Lovely place! Great vibe, and had such a good lunch here! I love the plants and art decor and their hand sanitizer smelled amazing! The brie and fig croissant was amazing, as well as the Eggs Benedict. Thank you for a lovely lunch!

Good coffee, great atmosphere & yummy food. Look out for their lunch special, it’s really well priced and always delicious. Another favorite and guilty pleasure are their shortbread bunnies dipped in chocolate.. if you there in the morning try their homemade croissant. last but not least probably one of the best omelets in town. It’s my staple anytime fix when I am there.

Whenever I go to court I like to be early, and to find a calm, unique, but fun local place to hang out in before, and during lunch. Haas has an amazing "vibe," very friendly staff, and a very cool atmosphere! Please support them!

Found this little gem on a visit from Joburg. Great spot to get some work done. Popular but not overly busy. Amazing food. Warm friendly staff. Very well priced. Ambiance and decor take your on a trip around the world.

Must must visit if you looking for and iconic South African treat... the koeksister. So delicious and freshly baked on site. A soft and syrupy treat that melts in your mouth

The decor is extremely well done! I constantly found myself just looking around at all the amazing things! Plus they serve the world's strongest coffee!

Cosy and quirky coffee shop with delicious breakfast options. Be sure to be early, the croissants go quick. Love the brie and fig croissant. Love the decor and the space. This place oozes creativity.

Lovely place, great style and good food. And you have to try the chai latte, that was really good! Also, the lend backgammon which led to a few nice morning hours for us. Will come back!
Randolf Jorberg
Great breakfast place with the world's strongest coffee! I went there regularly for a few weeks in a row due to early business in the area and every week I enjoyed their tasty breakfast offering, great coffee (including Black Insomnia, the world's strongest coffee) and very friendly service. I'm not usually in this part of town, but I'll now be bringing tourists there instead of always sending them to Truth across the road...

I had breakfast at this place on Saturday. I had the eggs Benedict with salmon. It was decent but very little salmon. Also had a carrot and ginger juice. Didn't quite taste like carrot. But very fresh and no doubt very good for u. The service was excellent and the place is absolutely gorgeous. Nice vibe.

Very very tasty coffee and bacon and eggs were a good size to price ratio.<br/><br/>Interior Decor of the place was amazing. And artwork was particularly interesting. Great vibes!

We were a little disappointed with our first time visit here. We had time to kill before a show at the Fugard on a Saturday afternoon so popped in. Loved the ambience and decor but not impressed that there was just one cake on offer...many empty glass bell displays. Coffee cups are also really small!

Really love this place! The food is unpretentious but so so good and an awesome place to get some work done! Love the staff and the decor too.

Great coffee, amazing breakfast and beautiful interior and atmosphere 👍🏼<br/>Definitely recommend Haas to everyone. Keep up the good work guys

Coffee is good here. Chai tea very weak and did not enjoy it at all. French toast was very good. Had a croissant too which was good. Service is good.

Beautiful vintage esoteric setting. Absolutely love the chairs and all the artwork/trinkets on sale. However that’s where the wow factor ends. <br/><br/>Coffee is not the best brew. Breakfast is ok - the bacon and hash brown were amazing though, but the rest on the plate was far too Morticia Addams. At least the portion was the size of Uncle Fester. <br/><br/>Owner and staff are one with the setting. I got more acknowledgment from his gorgeous grey hounds than from the man himself. <br/><br/>Would I go back? Likely not.

I just had the best experience at Haas! Wow, where to start....<br/><br/>Service was excellent. Coffee - perfect!<br/><br/>But there's so much more to Haas than the above, even though service/ food is critical.<br/><br/>Haas has the most eclectic vibe and decor I've experienced in a really long time. The minute you step inside, you step into a different period in time. It isn't one genre, it's a hybrid fusion of Baroque, Retro and Renaissance, and yes, it is the most beautiful combination that encompasses multiple era's, with effortless precision and flow.<br/><br/>Once You're inside, you can't possibly tell that you're actually smack in the middle of a busy city centre. Literally, it's charm encapsulates you and it's a wonderful experience, all round.<br/><br/>You could bet your bottom dollar that I'll be back.<br/><br/>Day made!<br/>

I quite like the hipster feel and trendy decor at Haas, however the food and service was pretty average.I ordered the French toast with cinnamon, fried banana and honey, which tasted ok. <br/>I was actually looking forward to trying the black insomnia cappuccino but they ran out of stock, which was a let down so I ended up with a regular cappuccino. My overall experience wasn’t fantastic and I wouldn’t go back in a hurry.

*IT'S A GLOOMY 'NO' FROM ME*<br/><br/>It looks nice from the outside, but I dislike the ambience - it's very dull and unexciting. Aside from that, the service was poor and the coffee even worse. I had a double Espresso, which was so bitter! For me, it's not worth the parking fees nor the distance travelled to visit this café again.

Was there today for a quick coffee and snack.<br/>Loved the vibe and decor, service was great and coffee was good.<br/>Will definitely be back to try out lunch.<br/>See you soon....

Why is it so difficult to get amazing scrambled eggs in a restaurant? Against my better judgment i ordered the " the memory ". Scrambled eggs were cold, overcooked, tasteless and just meh. So what I actually paid for was bread, 2 slivers of salmon and some badly cooked mushrooms- not cool 🙁. I had the " haaspitality " before and that was amazing so I figured all the dishes on the menu would be amazing. Get it right guys : hot pan , butter and well seasoned eggs...On a good note, the mochachino I had was divine.

Came here for a breakfast. <br/><br/>The place was not that busy, however we sat for 15min without recognition in order to place our orders. <br/><br/>Customer service should be the No. 1 priority and haas disappointed tremendously!!!!

Chilled place with somewhat eclectic decor/ plush couches that, together combined with well presented meals, makes for a really really good, relaxed vibe. Again the window seating looking onto buitenkant was so cool. Lovely place to spend a morning, a bit far from the typical action packed scenes of outlets on Kloof street. Well done guys

Charming setting but a little dark. Coffee was great and food was pleasant. Service wasn’t great, we had to ask our waiter to serve us 3 times.

Beautiful deco and really interesting expositions inside. Overall experience was good but coffee and food wasn’t really impressive, I will give another try

Great breakfast, on a chilly winters morning. The baguette was fabulous and the coffee world class. Great ambiance, and good value. Must try the Nitro coffee in a can!
Atara Jaffe
I really don't get why people like this place so much. It's kind of dated in the decor is weird and the service is weird and the food is subpar
Mariska Venter
Loved the coffee and wonderfull cheese platter! The kids had a crossaint and milktart. Everything were just perfect. The decor, name and artworks is beautiful.
Nadia Janse Van Rensburg
Perfection... nothing wrong can be said about this place. Unique... YES! Food... big portions and you can just see the extra planning and details and can taste the feshness and qaulity. The owners are very creative people which they have bring into this spot. Vibe... feels like you enter a old hotel in Europe filled with art, unique furniture, super organised and friendly staff and the insane smell of amazing coffee. I had a veg curry with rice and greens on the side. Loved it and my coffee was super. They even serve all day breakfast and the portions are big and well priced. They made sure to keep their customers cosy by adding pancakes on the blackboard to go with a icecold rainy Cape Town yesterday😆
Sarah Mcghie
I had a birthday breakfast here a while ago and it was great! The service was spot on even though we were a big group! Th food was delicious and I really love the unusual and quirky decor in the cafe! Will definitely come back!

I work in the city and Haas Collective's location makes it the perfect spot for me to stop en route and grab a coffee-to-go. That said, I always linger a while and look at the interesting decor and the tidbits for sale at their entrance which always tempt me to stay a little longer.

I like my lunch break there. It's a cosy ambience with a very good taste in decor. The owner is also a very friendly and nice person . I suggest to go there for light quick meals and business chats.<br/>Their coffee selection is also well done. They were one of the first places ( when they were in the Bo Kaap ) that had Kopi Luwak coffee.

Early Saturday morning, had some free time before our appointment, and thought why not pop in at Haas for some coffee?! Always wanted to pop in, so we walked down and got some coffee, omw, so amazing, love the decor, loved the friendly staff, and oh so yummy coffee! Cant wait to return for some breakfast or lunch! Great to host a breakfast/dinner party as well!

***Update3***<br/><br/>This morning I'm back to try Haas's take on Eggs Benedict as suggested by management. I'm quite excited to see how it turns out. I've been running around with early morning meetings and today is the first day this week I have sit down time by myself. <br/><br/>I was let down by the service today but like all the way back to square one vibes. I wasn't welcomed in and besides the long table of guests already eating I'm the only table here. It's been almost 20 min and I have been offered a menu and that's about it. My protocol is after 30 min I walk out. I don't like waving around for my waiters attention I save that experience for ordering drinks over a crowded bar counter late night when there is clearly an issue of demand. <br/><br/>2 min to the 30 min mark and I finally got service. I sound like one of those painful customers but all I want is an order placed within a short space of time. Good food takes time I'm happy to wait. <br/><br/>Aaaaaaand after 40 min of waiting there is no Eggs Benedict anymore. I explained to the waiter I was here to give a review on the Benidict but he wasn't having any of it. What a cost. Disappointed .... I had my flat white and left. <br/><br/>***Update2***<br/><br/>Second visit - I decided to come back for breakfast and I'll do a retake on my review. I was greeted promptly at the door and my flat white arrived faster than I could get comfortable on the big oversized couch for one. I'm still a fan of the interior and sitting on the far side of the restaurant I had the chance to noticed how pretty the light from your hanging Edison's reflect off those panels hiding the "board room". I really like how the light scatters over the the panels in shades of gold. My coffee was spot on, no sugar required and excellent microfoam, so much so I had a second cup. <br/><br/>In leu of eggs Benedict I had the poached eggs with mushrooms and salmon on white bread (sour dough was out already). The plating was done really well and I love the black plates as they make the colours of the food pop. Please do consider making eggs Benedict because the poached eggs I was served where cooked perfectly, not one bit of runny white and the yellow was perfectly oozy - you are contending for first place with regards to best poached in Cape Town... they are screaming for a hollandaise sauce though. <br/><br/>Overall this visit proved you can make a good second first impression. Message me when you guys do a take on eggs Benedict I would love to come to come try. <br/><br/>First visit -Besides having to beg for service this is a really nice little spot. It can get very busy and orders can get lost or messed up but when they get it right it's a treat. The inside is really pretty and I enjoy all the bits of art around the place.

Can't believe that I didn't try Haas sooner! It's a wonderful breakfast spot with really great service👍🏻 The interior is done up really well and adds to the dining experience. The coffee was nice but I would recommend a double shot because the coffee isn't exceptionally strong. All the food was great and the serving size was quite generous🍴
LeMarc Gouws
Love the retro simplicity of the decor, the relaxing atmosphere and the very friendly staff. The coffee is amazing, strong and delicious and even just a cappuccino satisfies any coffee cravers craving! Will go back again and sample the other offerings and some sweet treats too!

We met here for a book club meeting and we all ordered different items and everything was delicious. I loved the aesthetic feel. I ordered the French toast but I think the next time I'll try the French banana bread toast.
Matthew
A Cape Town gem, where easy eating, perfect coffee and industrial alternative chic decor mix. So much attention to detail in the eclectic styling makes the place almost more exciting to look at than an art gallery or museum. The food is diverse and delicious. The service is impeccable, and the gents in bow-ties are fabulous. Some of the chairs are a little uncomfortable, but you'll soon forget that as the sumptuous coffee hits your lips.
Seb R
Great atmosphere and beautifully decorated. It has a laid back hipster/industrial feel. Delicious, simple breakfasts. Try the fruit smoothie

Visited Haas this morning for a cup of coffee- what a cool venue! Such great attention to detail and really sophisticated. The coffee was also fabulous. Will definitely be back!

Everything is on fire. I had breakfast ever, banana bread French toast and bacon. Great helpful staff "Thabang " the best waiter I've ever come across , quick on tongue! Small talk genius. Ambiance, setup and all was exquisite. You really need to try it out!

Fabulous coffee. One of the better roasters in Cape Town. My favorite is their three sisters. <br/><br/>Breakfast fare is standard fare. Service can be a bit slow.

I finally have the time to do this review justice, a while back we were invited to a Zomato meetup at the haas collective. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful yet unassuming. We were treated to numerous courses all beautifully presented. The first was the refreshing sorbet that was served with fresh fruit and muesli. The second was poached egg, hollandaise sauce, goats cheese and smoked salmon. Theses two courses were both ascetically pleasing and tasty. The next course included some of the best eggs I've ever had, it's safe to say that they are life changing. The only course that I did not enjoy and that was only due to personal tastes was the hair of the dog which contained too much banana. The last course and definitely my favourite was the French toast, WOW is the best word to describe this course. We were also created to some delicious coffee and the best truffles in the world. They have become my new go to breakfast spot. Cant wait to return to try some different dishes off their menu.

Saturday morning means brunch, and shared with a group of awesome foodies you can't go wrong. I was really excited walking up the road and mesmerized by the building that is Haas. After a friendly greeting I was shown to the Zomato table in the board room which isn't totally separate from the restaurant, but allows for some privacy. <br/><br/>We were introduced to their new menu items. The first and last dishes were my favourite - the toasted muesli, fresh fruits and lime sorbet was a refreshing and delicious start and then the banana bread French toast with the beet and berry compote a unique and sweet ending. Besides the chocolate truffles of course mmm.<br/><br/>My only criticism would be the hollandaise sauce that was a tad clumpy and the bread baskets toasted too much making them difficult to eat. <br/><br/>The restaurant offers a laid back feel for coffee catchups with high chairs or lunch dates with the opportunity to browse some art and décor.Tabassum Smiley Aleem Simone Hasselbach Waseem Dawood Tiyaarah Cloete Nicol Miller Capetowngirl Glen Hunt Sharese Hunt Ulisha Moodley Megan Bellinger Lindie White

Take steampunk, throw in awesome coffee and fantastic brunch style food and you have Haas. <br/><br/>Saturday brunch is such a novel concept but with a group of fellow foodies it can be a decent experience. <br/><br/>Among the odd furniture and long bar adoring various coffee and wines is a fantastic group of staff, looking after everyone with friendly attitudes, backing up with great service. <br/><br/>Our culinary odyssey consisted of 4 meals that got better and better. <br/><br/>We started with a drink of a coffee shrub spritzer with was fresh and rich coffee flavor I kept going back to for more. <br/><br/>Our half Papaya with muesli and sorbet/ yogurt was freshing and an excellent start. <br/><br/>Next we're faced with soft poached egg, sitting in a Parmesan basket with something green (rocket), something salty (goats cheese) and something a bit fishy (lovely salmon shaped in a rose). Really really good. The salty of the Parmesan really worked with the soft poached egg and hollandaise sauce. <br/><br/>Next we were challenged with a pulled pork rubbed in ground coffee and black pepper, accompanied with creamed eggs and crispy bacon in a couple of bread baskets. This was insane. The pork was tender and totally so wanted to keep eating. <br/><br/>We finished up with a dish that unheard of with..get this, banana bread cooked French toast style that was off the hook and worth trying. <br/><br/>A wonderful experience and worth going back...even to try the coffee that is very much on the unique side and probably the most expensive coffee in the world.

Places like Haas are the reason why Cape Town is one of the best cities in the world. A creative space with a diversity of clientele of all ages. For a Saturday morning Zomato meet-up I was quite excited...but I had no idea what fabulous morning they had in store for us! Haas is energetic with lots of character that offers more than a coffee experience!<br/><br/>The interior is mysterious with interesting elements ready to catch the eye. Think dark colours with fun decor, wooden furniture with a touch of old and modern and a showcase full of interesting trinkets. <br/><br/>We started off with a refreshing Coffee Shrub spritzer - an ice-cold coffee cocktail with a mix of coffee and tonic water - a drink that is slowly but surely making its mark in some of the most trendiest coffee shops in Cape Town. Shortly after our refreshing Coffee Shrub Spritzer, we received a beautifully display of summer-on-a-board. Papaya with toasted muesli and lavender infused honey and lime sorbet. <br/><br/>Freshly smoked salmon served with a creamy goats cheese was our next dish on the menu. Accompanied with a beautiful but delicious parmesan basket stuffed with well-seasoned bruised rocket and poached egg, topped with a hollandaise sauce. <br/><br/>The winner for me has got to be the slow grilled Pulled Pork. Soft, juicy, tender! What makes this dish stand out is the interesting yet flavoursome ground coffee and black pepper rub. A bread cup filled with delicious creamed eggs and sprinkles of crispy bacon for a crunchy texture. How about a cute quail egg to accompany this dish!<br/><br/>We received a delicious surprise of coffee, banana and ice cream shake called Hair of the dog. A sweet and decadent drink with a delicious taste. <br/><br/>Just as you think you are stuffed and have no more space for food, they surprise you with another dish of sweet decadence! Banana bread French toast served with a Chantilly cream to balance out the sweet, tartness of the beet and berry compote. A guilty pleasure with your tastebuds begging for more! Coffee served with chocolate truffles - perfect end to a perfect brunch!<br/><br/>It’s clear to see that Haas has a true taste for the exceptional which shines through in their passion. Will definitely be back!

I've been checking my inbox and waiting soooo patiently to receive a foodie meetup invite and when it did come - i couldn't make it, but luckily enough a second invite followed a few days later! Yay!!!<br/><br/>I've parked right opposite Haas before and I am embarrassed to say that I never even saw it. I was first to arrive but everyone else started streaming in a few minutes later. What a lovely bunch of people to have met! It's like one big, happy family!<br/><br/>One look at the menu had me thinking I was going to roll outta there! I think i was one bite short of it and managed to get to my car okay though 😀<br/><br/>I'm not a coffee, banana or chocolate person so i feared that I wouldn't enjoy most of the dishes seeing as it was a coffee inspired brunch but after that little chocolate truffle at the beggining of the meal - i'm converted! Oh my word - how good were they?!<br/>I'm on the fence with the coffee spritzer - it was... interesting... but I dont think its something i would order.<br/><br/>The hair of the dog either - too much banana... other people liked it very much though. As said - not a banana person. <br/><br/>As for the rest of the courses:<br/>The lime sorbet was heavenly.<br/>That parmesan cheese basket was super evil and super delish!<br/>I couldn't stop eating the pulled pork but i had to because of everything still to come!<br/><br/>And lastly that french toast with berry compote and chantilly cream - O M G - i was so stuffed but i swear i could have probably eaten another 2 or 3 of those desserts! Piggish i know - it was just that GOOD!<br/><br/>The decor was antique but very chic and the service was great! The staff are really friendly and made me feel super welcome from the moment i walked in the door!<br/><br/>Saw a couple of patrons who brought their kids so Im hoping to bring my family soon! <br/><br/>What a great place, great food, great company!<br/><br/>Zanel Glen Hunt Sharese Hunt JotterJo Janine Theron Ulisha Moodley Megan Bellinger Lindie White Tabassum Aleem Iman Bawa Waseem Dawood Tiyaarah Cloete Nicol Miller Nick Mavridis Capetowngirl

I had the pleasure of attending a Zomato Meetup at Haas for brunch. I have been to Haas before, as well as to its original spot in bo kaap, but always just for coffee stops. I loooove the quirky decor and offbeat design! Everything for the seating to the crockery.<br/>What a feast we had! Started off with an interesting coffee spritzer, and a fruit selection. The yoghurt nadn sorbet that came served together was so yummy!<br/>Next up was a sort of eggs beni in a parmesan cup, beautiful presentation, followed by another savoury course of mini bread baskets with creamy scrambled egg and either pork or chicken.<br/>My fave was the banana bread French toast - warm and crispy, with fresh cream and a beet & berry sauce.<br/>Not to mention the coffee is pretty decent too ;)

Wow we were all really spoilt at Haas today! The brunch was a gift that kept on giving😍. We started off with a coffee shrub spritzer, it really woke me up 😜. <br/><br/>Then came the papaya with toasted muesli which was quite refreshing. This was then followed on with the poached egg Parmesan basket which I enjoyed but found the hollandaise sauce to be a bit to thick. <br/><br/>We then had the hair of the dog a nice sweet treat as an interval. Really enjoyed the banana with coffee. Something quite different. <br/><br/>Two more meals to go through (the gift that kept giving)😜 loved the pulled pork with creamy eggs. I'm a huge fan of creamy eggs and these were delicious. <br/>Last but not least the amazing banana bread french toast with berry compote and cream, so so yum! It melted in my mouth. <br/>To end off more coffees were served with chocolate truffles. Service was great, extremely efficient! Today I was invited by zomato for a meet up. <br/>The restaurant itself is so hard to miss, as it's completely black - so I was naturally intrigued. <br/>As you enter, it's a beautiful laid back lounge like feeling. It's actually really stunning. I was really impressed. <br/><br/>We were greeted by the staff who offered us coffee and truffles on arrival. The menu was great. The first course was a muesli and yoghurt that had a lemon sorbet and was served with paw paw and different fruit. <br/>The second, was a take on poached egg, salmon, hollandaise on a cheese basket<br/>The 3rd was either pulled pork and bacon with coffee flavours or the chicken which the Muslims and non pork eaters were offered. <br/>As a sort of cleanser we were served a coffee, chocolate and banana smoothie<br/><br/>The 4th and final course was a banana bread French toast, which was my personal favourite. Our morning overall lasted over 3 hours and I was thoroughly impressed by the effort that had gone into the event. <br/><br/>This place is a must try!

Firstly, thanks for inviting me to this wonderful place, Zomato. A real honour to attend my first meetup at such an iconic venue.<br/><br/>Now let me quote that famous poet, painter and printmaker William Blake: "Great things are done when men and mountains meet."<br/><br/>This is exactly what happened when we were treated to mountains of food, all with a coffee-inspired twist. From the interesting cold Coffee Spritzer to the Poached Egg in a delicate Parmesan Cup and the Baskets of Pulled Pork to the intriguingly named Hair of the Dog (banana coffee milkshake), we were certainly in the company of greatness.<br/><br/>Although I have had Haas bookmarked for a long time, it was only today that I learned from their website that they aren't a coffee shop at all. Caffeine is just a natural and necessary byproduct of creative minds smashing deadlines. They are actually a very smart ad agency with some very impressive directors.<br/><br/>But besides that, the food presented today was extraordinary to say the least. I will have to return to take in the unique decor and soak up the creative vibe some more. Because I like what they say about themselves on their website under Our Values: "At the heart of Haas Advertising, you’ll find respect, integrity and good coffee." Count me in, little bunny rabbit!

Fourteen top foodies were invited by Haas Collective to a brunch and what a fabulous event it was!<br/><br/>Located in Buitenkant street, CBD; the building stands out as it is painted in slate grey. It's beautiful. The interior is tastefully painted in neutral tones and decorated with unique local art pieces. The restaurant has high ceilings with contemporary lighting which translates into a warm and inviting space.<br/><br/>We were treated to a tantalising seven course menu starting with a coffee shrub sprintzer; espresso with tonic water & topped with mint. Fresh, chilled & lovely. Coffee to order was offered and I had a deliciously creamy cappuccino. This was followed by fresh chilled papaya with homemade nutty toasted muesli, drizzled in lavender infused honey and accompanied by lime sorbet and thick glossy Greek yoghurt. Delightful!<br/><br/>The next plate boasted a delicate Benedict parmesan basket filled with steamed rocket, a perfectly poached egg and balanced with a smooth hollandaise sauce. This was partnered with a soft slice of ciabatta with creamy goats cheese and silky smoked salmon. A fresh squeeze of zesty lemon enhanced the gentle flavours.<br/><br/>On to the meat course. Two crispy toast cups; one filled with lightly creamed eggs & sumptuous bacon bits; the other with slow grilled pulled pork coated in a ground coffee & pepper rub. Wow. Incredible!<br/><br/>A banana, coffee milkshake cleared the palate for the next course. Two orbs of the lightest banana bread, prepared as French toast and served with berry compote and chantilly cream. Absolutely mouth wateringly scrummylicious!<br/><br/>The meal was rounded off with coffee, salted caramel shortbread and coffee chocolate truffles. I highly recommend this establishment for a truly glorious breakfast. Great working breakfast option, mainly because they are open at 7am. The croissants are very fresh and very yummy! Prices are reasonable, and the staff are friendly. I love this interior, very creative, comfortable, and engaging. Come early, when there is parking outside!

Awesome coffee (and epic Tea!!), friendly service, good value-for-money selections and huge portion sizes! <br/><br/>Love the rustic interior ... gives off a macabre "Alice in Wonderland" type of vibe (for me at least) - Really cool :D <br/><br/>Banana Bread French Toast was really, really yummy! - Bread was crispy, moist, sweet and very fresh. "Blue Flower Earl Grey" was a first for me - Sip slllooowwwlllyyy! <br/><br/>Will visit again soon :)

Exceptional coffees, breakfasts and baked goods! I've yet to be disappointed! I love the vibe and they're always playing awesome music! Yes, another coffee shop, but worth a visit!

Visited Haas Collective with a friend a few weeks ago. We both really enjoy it. The quiet and relaxing Ambiance really added to overall experience. The service was good and friendly. <br/>To drink we both ordered cappuccino's. To eat I ordered the roasted vegetable sandwich which was accompanied with hummus and a side salad. The portion was really big and full of taste. My friend ordered garlic bread and hummus to nibble on which she also enjoyed. Haas collective is a coffee shop that I would definitely recommend.

Lovely coffee shop! Aesthetics compliments a relaxed vibe for the creatives to come work in a coffee shop environment. Cool art and superb chocolate squares!

Picked up a slice of apple crumble cake & a takeaway double espresso on my way home. Very interesting gothic style interior design of the restaurant. The crumble was great and espresso was fantastic - perfect temperature, full bodied and it had a rich crema. Friendly staff too.

Lovely breakfast spot for a Saturday morning in the city. If the food does not cause you to come back for more, the coffee will! The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed, with the perfect buzz that you would expect from a popular brunch spot.

Haas is a pretty rad coffee shop, with good service and cool decor. The atmosphere is typical CBD (in a good way). Their coffee, as expected, was pretty good and the food was solid, if not spectacular. The decor is eclectic and lends itself to the chilled atmosphere. Not an absolute highlight, but a very solid spot that's worth a visit if you're in the area and in the mood for good coffee. Very good value for money.

I decided to visit somewhere new and saw this spot had a good rating and looked interesting. The decor certainly is interesting with a dash of bizarre everywhere, perhaps a bit too much darkness in the decor from a few angles. The animal head trophies are never nice to see in any establishment and odd scattered feet and other strange items on display. The service was not good and we had to remind the waitress to take our order. The actual good was nice but not stellar. Overall I though the rating this establishment had was not deserved today, hence my 2.5 rating.<br/>

Do you like coffee shops in Town? <br/>Do you like free wifi? <br/>Do you like people pretending to work to look cool?<br/>Then Haas is for you, it's like 14 other coffee shops in Town but this one is closer to my house so i like it. The coffee is really tasty, the staff are very friendly and the decor is rad but coffee shops are coffee shops.

The Haas Collective experience began from across the road as the gothic black exterior stood out against the hushed tones of the surrounding buildings. <br/>I was pleasantly surprised on entering the restaurant as the decor is a mixture of artistic, comic paintings and rustic, alternative mantle pieces but having said that, it was done in good taste.<br/>Our waitress was pleasant and welcoming and gave us the option of sitting where we pleased. They had both plush lounge chairs and the usual dining style chairs.<br/>We ordered some tapas as starters and the omelette and kapenjaar as mains. In general, I did enjoy the food and the portion sizes were absolutely great value for money. My only suggestion for improvement would be to maybe introduce more flavor profiles in individual dishes to give the restaurant an extra edge.<br/>We completed our meal with a piece of their KitKat chocolate brownie cheesecake which was surprisingly not cloyingly sweet but was rather quite heavenly. <br/>I will definitely be suggesting this establishment to friends and acquaintances looking for a new brunch spot.

Came to Haas for Sunday brunch. Lovely coffee, delicious food and fantastic, attentive service in a great setting. Also, very reasonably priced!

Visited Haas on a Sunday morning for a late breakfast with my boyfriend, we both enjoyed the ambiance and the coffee! I had the chicken sandwich and he had the french toast banana bread - both delicious but the banana bread was a small portion. I think that Haas's opening hours should be extended, they open super late and close early - making Truth (their competitor just down the road) the obvious choice when wanting to pop into a nice coffee shop.

The Aesthetic of this place is amazing with a nice bustling vibe. I had the hare of the dog coffee and the tart of the day which were delightful.

Great place to spend a rainy day in the CBD. And whats really nice is the space - its not cramped like may CBD restaurants. Excellent coffee.

Popped in for coffee this morning before a meeting. I loved the vibe and the decor inside and definitely preferred the coffee to the world famous coffee shop across the road. Definitely one of the best coffees I have had in a long time.

Amazing experience.  I love the decor and the different tables and seats.  There is a something from everyone.  something I appreciate.<br/><br/>I have been there a few times for breakfast and have never been disappointed.  The omelette is very nice and the haaspitality is my favorite. <br/><br/>The service is great too, with the waiters being very friendly and waiting time being short.  Would definitely (and have) recommend Haas to friends and family.

I'm not quite sure what to call this a fusion of but whatever it is, it works. It's like Cape Town meets Nieu Bethesda. The food and the service is great but the one thing that caught me by surprise was the tunes inside. High 5 to whoever picks the play list

When I received an invite for a Zomato meetup, especially for a coffee inspired menu, at Haas, I couldnt contain my excitement. Not only because I'm a regular at Haas, but because I am such a coffee addict and I love their food. Haas, is a charcoal coloured, historic building, situated in Buitenkant Street, in the CBD, so it's easy to find. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with such an impact of visual delights, from the quirky decor, to the eery bits and bobs around the restaurant, you find yourself in awe. When I finally reached the 'chefs table', I was warmly greeted by other foodies eagerly awaiting to share in the coffee experience too. It started off with a bang, on arrival, we were given Cappuccinos and chocolate truffles, and from that moment on, it didn't stop. An amuse buche of a Coffee Shrub ( spritzer of secret ingredients), to muesli and fruit with a lime sorbet infused with lavender honey, to a Parmesan basket with salmon and poached eggs, to a Coffee rubbed pulled pork surprise with a side of finicky quail egg..(you'd think we'd be full by now...but we soldiered on) to a smoothie made with coffee and banana, to my personal favourite, Banana Bread French toast with cream and a raspberry coulis. It was absolute perfection.<br/><br/>I have not stopped raving about this meetup since Saturday, and would encourage anyone and everyone to pop into Haas and get involved in their menu. I've definitely put on a few kilos since then, but with no complaints at all! Great meal and lovely ambiance. Stunning art for sale. Service was friendly and efficient and we absolutely loved the coffee. All round super place, we'll definitely be back!

Worst breakfast I've had in Cape Town... My boyfriend and I arrived at this beautifully and eclectically decorated restaurant in the trendy CBD expecting an amazing meal after reading positive reviews. The menu options are disappointing... No Benedict, no fresh bread (they buy it from woolworths and charge exorbitant prices per slice), no freshly squeezed fruit juice (this should be a basic?), no rye bread, no gluten free bread, no healthy options. Our americanos never arrived, our waiter changed 4 times, my egg white omelet was undercooked and looked scrambled, my boyfriends poached eggs sat in a bowl of water (some undercooked and some hard), the bacon is very poor quality, and, the manager hides in her office at the back. I would definitely recommend that if you're looking for an amazing breakfast you head elsewhere... Perhaps their lunch is less disappointing (I won't be staying to find out).

Fantastic ambience, cemented by great art, music and service. If you are having a coffee or a meal by yourself, there are pieces of art (painting, Ceramics & jewellery) to keep you company & help you become a great "instegramer".. Friday evening Tapas and Drinks Events are unknown to most people, but they are a great way to avoid traffic also share to a drink with your colleagues/friends.

What can I say? Excellent. Brilliant. Everything they (people and reviews) said it would be - and more. My friend and I decided to host our friend's babyshower at Haas - she is not into typical pink etc baby showers, so we knew she'd want something different. The weather in Cape Town had been overcast and somewhat cold, so we wanted a place that would be cosy and warm and rich in colour. I'd popped in to Haas when they were still in Rose Street, so was intrigued to see what it would look like after the move and if they'd accommodate us. And I wasn't disappointed! They have a lovely semi-separate room with a very long table and comfortable chairs in which you can host a private function, while still feeling part of the buzz of the ever busy main restaurant.<br/><br/>Francois and Inge were helpful right from the beginning - they offered us the most competitive quote per head for the food we were looking for, and they gave us EXACTLY what we wanted with no terms and conditions or rules, which many other restaurants do when you are a big table (12+ pax). Their food was divine and beautifully presented and they just kept bringing more platters even after we couldn't eat anymore...<br/><br/>The service was unobtrusive but there was always someone on hand to help us with whatever we needed. They provided us with vases, allowed us to put up balloons, bring in our own flowers and generally just made us feel special and like no request was too much for them.<br/><br/>I cannot emphasise enough what a marvelous experience it was to have the party at Haas - it was an unforgettable day, made possible by the competent, efficient and kind team. <br/><br/>Keep up the good work!

Huge thank you to Inge, Francois and team for making our event on Saturday morning so easy to host! No request was too much effort, and the food was both generous and delicious, and the service efficient and friendly. The decor is also grat, so quirky and interesting. We had such a good experience,  I would happily recommend this spot in a heartbeat!

We had the pleasure of visiting Haas for the second time and love trying out new foods. The chicken bunny-chow delivered a true taste of curry and the banana bread French toast was excellent!! I had the roast veg sandwich and it was both delicious and a large portion. After more than a week spent in and around CT, I can certainly confirm that we received the best value for money and thoroughly enjoyed all the different flavours! (Never mind the great quality coffee!)

I was really pleased by Haas' availability to book for 12 hungry foreigners on a public holiday and had heard good reviews of this place....i hadnt been to the restaurant since they'd moved from Bokaap so i was interested to see if it was the same good food and good service. My guests were well pleased with their breakfasts having just gotten of a red eye flight. I had the scrambled eggs, bacon and toast because there are few simple dishes on their menu. While it wasn't the best breakfast I've had it filled the hole. I did however find the toast hard and cold....i generally dont believe in toasting fresh bread so that was a bit of a disappointment but otherwise the service was efficient and friendly. Id definitely head there again for a less rushed meal.

I took my husband here for a birthday lunch.<br/><br/>The decor is quirky and eclectic while remaining very stylish, making it a suitable place for any occasion.<br/><br/>He had a red cappachino and I had a generic. We each had a bunny chow to eat. The meal was delicious, probably the best bunny chow I've had in Cape Town (being from Durban, the love for curry is real) and the portion was substantial - we could each only eat two-thirds of our meal. Service was also unbelievably quick.<br/><br/>Only complaint: we were seated on a couch which was too high above our tiny table. My plate and drinks barely fit onto the surface and I had to eat off a specific side of my plate for fear that it would topple off. Other tables are, however, available!

Great quality restaurant. <br/><br/>The decor is very different. Comfortable, even though it's a little darker then I expected. The food was fantastic. Great bread and super coffee. <br/><br/>The only short coming is the service. The staff don't seem to follow any kind of system.

First arriving at Haas, I was intrigued by the alternative art that was displayed at the front of the restaurant. We were seated at a bad table even though we had booked beforehand. I was disappointed by the quality of the menu, which was just a printed picture on normal A4 paper. We ordered our drinks - I ordered 'fresh pomegranate juice' which was tasty, but could've been bought at Woolworths and diluted. A fellow table member found a hair on the coffee plate - perhaps I'm being petty? One of the table's dishes ordered 'easy over', specifying not runny yolks. Running sunny side up arrived - they were beautiful, but we might as well have not ordered. My French toast with banana and bacon was well seasoned and tasted very good, but it was sadly let down by the unpleasantness of the failures of the service. The atmosphere is very nice on the other hand, which is good for a simple coffee or cake purchase - don't expect good service.

Worst service ever. Waiters need some serious training. Breakfast was brought out in the wrong order... And then reheated in the microwave. Come on!

Vibey coffee shop with some cool decor. Had some decent coffee here. What a fresh croissant however my partners eggs were under fried. However this was a lovely coffee shop and I will be back.

Having lived there a while, I absolutely love the streets in CT's CBD, and we were wandering around them when we stumbled across Haas. Just down the road from one of the best book stores in the country.<br/><br/>It's got that kind of we don't care cool, that you know takes a lot of effort, but is quintessentially Cape Town. <br/><br/>Dark 'uninviting' interior with jazzy beats in the background, it feels more like a trendy tattoo studio than a restaurant.<br/><br/>We 'only' had a breakfast but it was really good. The crispy bacon was superb! The coffee was also excellent.<br/><br/>Very cool spot, we'll be back next time we are in town!

The awesome smell of coffee beans lures you in. This lingers whilst snooping around the decor items for purchase. Love the art and decor. I can find myself at Haas
Suitcases And Lattes
Cool, trendy, tasteful decor. Excellent service. I ordered "The Omelette " which was generous and filling. Coffee was good too. Negatives: a little pricey but mostly on par with the area, parking is also not ideal. Recommended.

Great little spot full of wonderful things. Really outstanding coffee and food that was simple, fresh and delicious. Always full of the trendy set looking busy and important!

Haas is such a great brekkie spot. The decor is fantastic with old school arm chairs included. I had the French toast as I can't go to a breakfast spot without trying out their French toast. It was very good with ciabatta bread and fried banana plus some bacon on the side. They also have loads of goodies on display and I will have to be back to try their cheesecake and chocolate clusters!
Tafel Vir Twee
Haas is a great alternative to Truth when you are on Buitenkant. The decor is very cool and they sell a lot of unique products. The coffee is great and the breakfast options are really nice. If you are a croissant fan, they have a lot of fun topping options. Their oatmeal is also served in a DIY manner, so you can add in toppings to your liking. They have a nice party room for events and seating is clustered around antique-looking couches. Very cute.

Went to Haas for coffee with a friend. The coffee was good and the baked cheesecake was a really nice texture, dense and tasty. The waitrons are helpful and the atmosphere was chilled.

This coffee shop is housed in a beautifully restored Victorian warehouse in the heart of Cape Town CBD’s East City. It has a really great vibe (this could be the elusive Central Perk I’ve been searching for) to go with its great coffee and delicious treats.

The cold meats platter is the bomb. It is packed with wonderful little bits. Chorizo, biltong, cheeses and freshly baked breads. Flush that down with one of their cappuccinos and Monday is officially yours. <br/>

Met houtskool mure en donker dekor is dit die ideale plek vir 'n koue Sondagoggend. Die porsies is piele en hulle is ook nie skaam om vir jou 'n lekker vol koppie boeretroos te skink nie. Die "french toast with banana and bacon" is befok.
The Cape Town Glutton
Such a great experience here for breakfast! We had the most delicious French toast and everyone at our table agreed the food was delicious! The service was brilliant and so attentive even though our waiter was new he was so wonderful! We were happily greeted at the door and it was an over all great experience with a wonderful atmosphere. We arrived quite early but by the time we left the place packed! We definitely recommend this place!

A quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD. I love how much character Haas has too offer. I opted for the french toast which was quite easy on the eye and my friend had the omelette. Good food. Good service. And the ornaments for sale around the store makes for good conversations.

I was there on Monday morning and had their Haaspitality breakfast. It was so filling and delicious and worth every cent. They also do an incredible bunny chow. I love it when you get what you pay for. The service is okay but it's because it's a very laid back place.

Haas in Buitenkant Street is a very chilled spot to have breakfast. The coolest things about it:<br/><br/>1. Dog-friendly tables outside the front<br/>2. Cool art & design things on display and for sale<br/>3. The staff are very accommodating and warm.<br/><br/>I had a pretty simple breakfast of a croissant, jam and cheese and really can't complain about it. The croissant was very crispy and the strawberry jam was as good as strawberry jam from a tin can get. I had their jasmine tea and absolutely love the Japanese teapots that are delivered to your table - a very nice touch. Big bonus: open on Sundays. Grant

In search of brunch, we decided on Haas. Their sandwiches are good, and the breakfast options are standard but well done. Decor is cool, the service isn't fantastic especially when they're busy, but I would go again.
Michelle Matzdorff
Edgy and expressive, with a large pinch of interesting. I ordered the charcuterie board which was generous, albeit slightly boring, a disappointment given all the character in the place. The service was good though, and almost made up for the uncomfortable seating. <br/><br/>Nice place to go if you're looking for something unusual, but not the place to take your folks for coffee.

Great breakie! Loved it. See pics attached :)<br/><br/>A great, arty, creepy, creative coffee spot. Creepy in a good way. I never made it to the first location, however I think I was drinking their coffee out of a garage in Green Point at some point in 2011. Great coffee I must say. I try not to compare different craft coffee spots and just enjoy each one for the uniqueness they bring. Great decor and pleasant wait staff. I had a great meeting there. I'll be back to try their food and tell you all about it, I promise :) In the meantime check out some of the pictures I took ;)

The interior design of Haas is eery, edgy, creepy and downright wonderful. A stuffed zebra head on one wall giving an eye to a stuffed rabbit (the English meaning for haas) perched on a floating shelf. Gorgeous wood and steel bar that has that deliberately clean rustic look with steampunk inspired lights hanging above. Along with an eclectic mix of seats and art for sale on display you won't feel at home unless you're Edward Scissor Hands but you will enjoy it. <br/><br/>The service was average with out waiter not quite knowing what was available having to update our order repeatedly as he attempted to find requests. I had to change my order twice. That said the food was delicious. Simple but tasty. I had a chicken sandwich that spicy and scrumptious. Not incredible but neither was the price so it fits nicely in the affordable notes category. <br/><br/>My mochachino though was divine. There was more than a good amount of chocolate. It was thick, almost creamy. It was great. I wouldn't call it a coffee lover's mocha but if you want something that is part hot chocolate, part coffee, part heaven, look no further. <br/><br/>If I could split my rating I would give Haas a 3.5 for food, a 2.0 for service, 4.5 for its mocha, and a 5.0 for design and vibe. So just a 4.0 overall but I suspect your mileage may vary as I'm clearly swayed by the noir styling and for hitting my mocha sweet spot.

I haven't been to see Haas in their new space since they moved - it's just the right mix of edgy, dark and totally comforting. <br/><br/>Yummy coffee, and red lattes and a relatively simple menu done well. I ordered eggs and toast - their rye is deliciously sense - and some bacon. It's a really good spot if you are feeling a bit fragile, because it is dark and cosy inside. <br/><br/>The decor is their major draw card, I'd try and describe it but I probably wouldn't do it any justice - you'll just have to go and see it for yourself.
Jenny Sarah Coulson
Oooooh this restaurant is so cool. I love the low tables and cosy, intimate feel of the space - you could get lost doing a couple hours of work in here. I had a great red cappuccino and need to go back to try the food!

We were seated in what I think should be a coffee-only area - not comfortable for eating a meal, with the low chairs and awkwardly low tables. Our waiter didn't seem to really have her head on straight, and was not paying attention either. My friend ordered the haas main breakfast, and I ordered the memory - I asked that my toast be exchanged for a hash brown (which did come), and a side of cream cheese (for the salmon, which I stopped eating because it was browning on the edges). The cream cheese ended up being a tub of cheddar. The mushrooms that are meant to come with my breakfast came later, only once I enquired about it. The coffee was delicious, and I would come back for that - absolutely not for a meal though. All-round awkward and unnecessary experience for a Sunday morning.

One of the best coffee places in town. The menu is not extensive but the food is really good (the bunny chow is a popular choice) and this is a perfect place for brunch. The service is good though a bit distant sometimes.
