Cool, trendy Vibes! Absolutely beautiful women & Men. Hip and pretty happening especially some nights, (Thursday, Friday, Saturday)
Bring enough cash to enjoy a little snack before the drinking/dancing/fun starts at about 10:30pm. I like drinking their cool and decent collection of Craft Beers.
Between R35 - R60 depending if its from a tap, or the 350 ml bottle.
Snack/party starters will cost between R50 - R100.
My favorite being the falafel style meat and seafood balls with an amazing sauce to go with it! We had to order extra sauce...twice!
Weekends particularity busier and the music, dancing, drinking, socializing and even networking are incredible.
Keep rocking the shit outa C.T!
Love and hugs
Marc/Chris Jacobs/ Nerine / Bella and even Ronald the golden retriever!
Peace!
Cool vibes, great drinks, amazing food and friendly service. I loved the decor and music. Totally a place I’ll come back for.
Superb experience... seriously some of the best food in Cape Town! (Everything tastes amazing)
Can't seem to get enough! Great venue, staff and vibey atmosphere! I'll be back for sure!
Been here so many times and keep coming back again and again and again. We even have a what's app group with the same name to arrange our visits. Excellent food, fabulous music, fantastic staff. Love it!!
Guys!! Whoever the DJ was on Saturday night... Give that man a Bells!! Seriously their music selection was on point!! Thanks Village, you guys never disappoint!
Had a girls night here and it was really amazing!!! The manager was super nice, the waiters are on point and the barmen are just fantastic at what the do! Will definitely be back for another awesome eve! Keep rocking!
Very cool spot. The muscles were to die for. Unique flavours in the muscle pot
We were three that just had dinner at another restaurant close by and wanted a few after dinner drinks. Well , the place was vibey, interesting and all the staff were attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back!!

What a great place, super friendly staff and a fantastic atmosphere. Will definitely be back for more and often!
This place has everything , food , vibe, dance and pool - fun times to be had here
Love this place, real friendly with great beer and a great atmosphere. Definitely a regular spot to go.
Awesome vibe and food totally love this place
Went to village idiot as this was the happening place in cape town. They had Halloween setup. The place is quite good for food and party. The music was good and dance floor was full. The food was nice. The service was good. Definitely must visit place
I was impressed with the price of cocktails as well as the calamari portion which was huge! The quality was a average however I have awarded this rate because the steak was cooked to perfection and was incredible tasty! The drinks and atmosphere were both great and we really enjoyed it! Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu
Heard about the place via the app..We went after work one evening to try it out..Didn’t think much of the place from outside..but once inside cozy welcoming environment..sat by the fireplace. had the deluxe braai board which fed myself and wife!! Meats were cooked to perfection and prices all reasonable! Will definitely visit again!
Amazing vibe and incredible food. Loved the service too. Try the bunny chow with curry and the braai. It's a quintessentially South African place with a very international vibe. Will be going back.
House beers are brewed by Boston craft their pilsner is extremely yeasty and the larger fruity (Not to my taste... but if you like that kind of thing) great craft IPAs and seasonal tap beers (currently pouring a CBS. Their pap (only in SA) bacon and cream sauce is something different and the ribs fall off the bone! Perfectly cooked, great choice in music adds to the ambiance and they have bottomless bubbly 3-5 Friday’s!
So at the end of an amazing foodie week in Cape Town we find the jewel in the crown. I had the Brai Special, a mix of BBQ meats, absolutely delicious. My wife had sirloin steak. Really great god, atmosphere and music.
We arrived, the atmosphere was very welcoming and warm and quite hipster in my opinion but I thought it was a lekker spot. Lots of young people having drinks with their friends but creates a lively vibe for sure.
Service was absolutely fantastic!
Quite surprisingly it was busy for a tuesday evening mid-month.
We decided to try their twodays special which consists of 2x pulled pork burgers with coleslaw and a jug of beer for R130 and we decided on a side salad to share but it was smaller than expected.
The drinks arrived quickly and food shortly after.
The burgers were average, I thought it could have done with more coleslaw, and I liked the salad but he didnt so much.
We really enjoyed our first time visiting but will probably only return for drinks as the service and atmosphere is what we enjoyed most.
What a lovely place! I had a great time here with friends. The music and vibe was just perfect for an after work dinner during the week. I kept thinking how much more fun I could have there on a Friday night.
I had a Borewors Burger which was juicy, well seasoned and came with some chunky slaw and another side ( I chose chips). They also have pap on the menu as a side which is pretty cool. The selection of wine is just perfect for their menu.
Service was superb- our waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable on the food and wine.
I will definitely go back and tell everyone about it.
I was at The Village Idiot for after work drinks. The beers were ice cold and the service was quick and friendly at at the bar, albeit the fact that they were not busy. I also noticed the cleanliness of the place and the wonderful music selection which was at the perfect sound level. I also had the braai board which was quite excellent - the steak and boerewors was tasty although the steak could have been a touch more rare. The coleslaw and salad was excellent - tangy and fresh. The chakalaka was the best I've had in recent memory, the only complaint being that there wasn't more of it! The only disappointment were the chicken wings which were bland and lifeless. They could also do with more IPAs in their beer selection. Otherwise, excellent evening!
Had the brie board, great steak, loved in medium rare and the other local food like poe was really interesting, gave a good British pub vibe
This restaurant is lovely I went on an evening after first Thursday's so it was very busy . However, the waiter still managed to pull through with great service . The food was perfectly fine for me especially after I had a few of their well done cocktails ... I was able to order two platters between my friends and we really enjoyed sitting outside by the balconies on the bar stools.
Met up with a friend here for early evening drinks. Pleasantly surprised that they had a happy hour on a Saturday! Half price for everything! We decided to share a mojito jug.
The place is stunning decor wise. Waiters and hostess super friendly and attentive. Vibe is great: not too pretentious, but not too casual.
I’ll have to return for a proper night out.
First Thursdays are a 'thing' now, and as such, last night, we ended up, on a recommendation at The Village Idiot on Loop Street. The Village Idiot is just one of several offerings by The Firm such as Aces 'n Spades, Villains, Standard Beer Co, Surfarosa, Harringtons, and District.
As you walk in, its hard not to notice the ostrich theme, and Oskar the ostrich is quite clearly an inspiration for this watering hole. On request, you can also hear about Oskar's humble beginnings in Durban and how he made his way down to Cape Town.
The drinks.. On being seated, I was offered a tempting-looking cocktail menu but on ordering, told that it was after the time period when they serve cocktails so I can't say much about that.. However, my wine was cold, served quickly (with a smile) and the prices were fair. I also love the relaxed vibe, and on such a hot night, we were thankful that this bar offers good ventilation.
We have resolved to return (this time camera and lenses in hand) so watch this space!

I think I’m a little old to be frequenting bars these days, but found myself at The Village Idiot for drinks for a friend’s birthday. As a drinking spot, I would recommend it. There’s good space, service is crisp, prices are typical of the CBD (that is, expensive!) and the decor and view is very cool. Given their popularity, they don’t need my recommendation though...
Very interesting decor here. Which other gastropub has a full size Ostrich at the bar? The music is great and some nights there’s a DJ. Great vibe with good music for a Friday/Saturday night out. The food is also good. I love their braai board, the mussels, or the Mrs H. Balls burger. Friendly waiters and service is okay. Can get packed on party nights.
One of the top bars for a party on weekends! a good proper local jol. Been disappointed to find no vibe on weekdays last few times. Also went there on a sunday as advertised, found it closed!
Some people write off this place as a yuppie hang-out but I feel it evokes a warm and inviting atmosphere, especially in winter thanks to all the comfy seating and crackling fireplace. I have also seen a vast array of age groups enjoying a drink and it's great because for once, there IS enough room.
That aside,
- the large wraparound balcony is superb for an after work drink or chance to wow at the CBD
- Service is always good and there are more than enough bartenders to make sure you a get a drink quickly
- Love their wine and beer selection - #golocal
-Decor is quirky and awesome, I oddly love their bathrooms the most.
- Their charcuterie and soups are amazing as are their burgers and chips.
Definitely great for big groups and weekend afternoon/evening drinks.

Setting and decor is so unique and beautifully done. Loved the music and atmosphere and lots of different spaces to select from. Food was also good al tough some portions were a bit a small
Upon walking in you're greeted by friendly staff, sublime atmosphere and a place extremely well themed. Tucked away in the CBD, it's difficult to find if you don't know what you're looking for. The menu left me a bit dissapointed; there's not much variety and do not stock local draught beers. The food came quickly but was a slightly small portion. I'd like to revisit this place in the day sometime. Perfect for a quick drink.
This is great spot, chilled vibe, indoor fireplace for the cold days. Service is great, and the food is good. Lovely spot for lunch or dinner.
We came here for the Pulled pork sandwich and beer special. We were pleasantly surprised! It was really good and you can't beat the price. We would definitely come back again.
I like this restaurant , even in couple or with friends. Very good burgers and drinks. The space is fun and relaxing at the same time. It's the rich decor that makes it feel like an apartment of victorian times. Very nice dimmed lights and a balcony where you can enjoy a quick dinner or a drink.
The food is good and the portions are big. This for me was the kind of place you go to have drinks with friends and just have fun. Don't expect a memorable dining experience but if its an easy chilled vibe you are looking for you'll be satisfied when going there.
Had supper and drinks at The Village Idiot yesterday, place was clean, service was great and food was tasty! Nice portions and affordable 😀
Loved it! Food was great, loved the seafood sosatie! Service was great. Ambience was great too, lovely crowd of people and very diverse. I'll be back 👍🏻
Great vibe! Traditional South African food. The rooibos ice cream and dark chocolate brownie is OUT OF THIS WORLD! Service was excellent! This place is definitely something different.
Had some farewell drinks here tonight and I must say the place around 4-7pm is so full of ambience. Great music and very attentive waiters. Totally chilled and relaxing. All the reasons I moved to CPT. I Had my favorite craft beer and as usual it was 👍.
Ordered a meat board which was ok and a biltong board which had more BOARD then biltong! Nevertheless these were devoured by my friends - savages 😂
One of Cape Town CBD's best. Food is outstanding and the vibe is always first class! Great for a night out or after work drinks. Will return
Our office frequent The Village Idiot.
Great spot- good drinks, attentive waiters and above average pub grub.
Really good party on a weekend night too- can highly recommend as a stop on a night on the town.
We visited The Village Idiot on a Tuesday evening which happened to allow us to experience their Mates special. There are also other specials on Tuesday evenings but this one appealed to us the most.
The Mates special comprises of two pulled pork burgers topped with their house made coleslaw and a jug of Standard Premium Lager for R130. The pulled pork burgers were quite messy to eat as the buns were quite soft, but they were also juicy, flavourful, and filling. We added a side of chips which were fried and salted well. The service was excellent and there is a somewhat upbeat chilled bar-like vibe at The Village Idiot which makes it a very casual setting. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!
Absolutely loved the decor and ambience as soon as we walked in. We ordered the braai board, hot taxi wings, a side salad and old school lemon tart to share. The 200g sirloin was by far the best I've ever tasted! Sirloin is often dry and has the least taste out of most of the beef cuts ... well all I can say is that this was the most tender, succulent and tasty sirloin I've had the pleasure of tasting. The "hot" wings were rather a letdown as there was no heat at all. The kitchen might have got it wrong and served up the "not hot" wings. Otherwise, the food was not only delicious, but we were so happy to have received value for money in an awesome and vibey setting. I would definitely recommend The Village Idiot. 👍
It was my first night in Cape Town and went there since it offers dinner and drinks.
I ordered a burger, it was probably the best I had in my life! The meat is just perfect, it doesn't need any accessories.
And after dinner we had drinks at the outdoor balcony and had really good time.
Highly recommended.
Very nice decor and atmosphere, good drinks, but the main reason for the 5.0 rating is that the burger is one of the best i've ever had in my life.
Ladies night started out with a Bang at Village Idiot!
The waitress was friendly & extremely funny. She made our evening when she kept those tequilas coming.
The boerewors burger is exceptional! I rave about this burger each chance I get.
Great quality, great service & an amazing vibe.
If you want to eat quality pub food and don't want to find another place for drinks after, then this is the place. As with many places in Cape Town the cool spots get taken by the cool kids, which can make the atmosphere a little too pretentious. The village idiot can be like that but it's not unbearable. When they have their sunday braais this is the place to be together with a large selection of beers and live music.
Great place on the night out in town. Such a vibey place with a food menu that is so African and simple. The selection of beers are also quite amazing. Most definitely a place I'll go again.
I love the Village Idiot on a night out because they serve wine and the vibe is great and every waiter is friendly even when the place gets super busy.
There are few places I frequent as much as Village Idiot. For me, it offers the perfect combination of party vibes, chill vibes, and, of course, foodie vibes. And their foodie vibes are becoming more and more attractive to me with a gazillion specials that tickle my taste buds. One of these is their Tuesday Dates & Mates special, where guests get to enjoy one of three options. Firstly, they can choose to munch on a 600g Beef Prime Rib steak, served with carrot puree, asparagus, horseradish cream, and a side of house-made coleslaw and fries, together with a bottle of Village Chenin Blanc or Red Blend. Then, guests can also choose two pulled pork burgers, served with coleslaw and a jug of Standard Premium Lager. Lastly, diners can choose to have the Village Table Salad served with a bottle of Chenin Blanc.
I loved the decor of this place and it has good background music. The menu is not very vast but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I asked for the wings for a starter and loved the bbq sauce on them. For mains I tried the board and the rib eye. The rib eye was definitely the winner! For dessert a good dark chocolate brownie with and nice ice cream. Cool staff.
It’s not really a secret that I’m absolutely in love with The Village Idiot. Ever since this vibey place opened its doors a little while ago, I’ve been spending a lot of time there. It reminds of a Great Gatsby-ian world, with gold and glamour decorating the spacious interior, in addition to a muddle of assorted collectibles and a back-room library adorning the pool room. There is also Oskar the ostrich, with quite an amusing back story, which I’d recommend every one to read, and, of course, the hip and happening crowd that is guaranteed to offer a fantastic night out. And, yes, of course, there is amazing food.

What a awesome place, perfect location, most friendly and interesting looking staff☺, cool menu and fresh food to satisfy your hunger. Great vibe and stunning decor. Def a spot to meet up after work to relax, have a fun night and to enjoy the view. Will def be back!!!!
Sunday at the Village... A very relaxed atmosphere, a chilled place. Fantastic food and great service. Reasonable pricing and a variety of drinks. A definite recommendation, lovely place at any time.
Super great spot. Awesome energy in the venue with matching service. The Sunday braai created a great atmosphere. I opted for the ribs and my friends for the burgers, both meals were superb. A definite must visit and look forward to going back.
We were invited to a friends birthday party and had a nice corner to ourselves outside. On this particular day they had the Hoghouse serving up a platter with a smoked pork bun, pork rib, a braaid mielie and apple coleslaw. Most of the guys ordered it and were satisfied. I had the boerewors burger and was happy with the generous amount of caramelised onion. My mojito was perfect and our waiter was very attentive and friendly.
One of the best places to be on a Friday night. Friendly staff, a small but decent menu, good cocktails, good craft beers, good music and the prices are good as well. It usually gets full on Friday nights so I would recommend booking a table to avoid disappointments.
This place has a really awesome vibe. It was really busy the night i went, but everyone i met was super friendly. The decor and bartenders are all really nice! Definately recommend goving this place a visit. You won't regret it!
Nice vibe restaurant in CBD!
Menu is very limiting, but interesting options.
Try: Mrs Balls Boerewors Burger
Awesome presentation, pleasantly surprised.
Delicious patty, juicy and flavourful!
Cocktails are overpriced but loved that I could get Rekordling Beer!
Beware the waiting line gets insane after 9pm
Service was not the best since the place gets packed.
Not for family dinner dates, more of a drink and eat before you pass out kinda place.
After the Rugby, it got slightly colder and we all wanted to eat at a restaurant that had a vibe and a fireplace, so we decided to head to Village Idiot. Even though we didn't book, the staff accommodated us at a table that was only booked for 9pm, close to the fireplace. We ordered, the Sirloin Salad, the bacon and broccoli croquettes, the Boerewors burger which came with coleslaw and fries as well as the Braai board special, which comes with a selection of meats. The food was really tasty, good portion sizes, which inturn meant great value for money. The only downside was the the sirloin in the salad was way too salty and that masked the subtle flavours of the other ingredients. I won't lie, I have never thought that I would be heading to Village Idiot to eat, as I have always associated it with being a bar, so I am slightly taken aback by the food. Good job!
Small menu but loud flavours. This restaurant is very busy, so be sure to book. Unless you are keen to eat at the bar, you could possibly get a space if you just rock up. Crowd is young and full of energy. Not sure why waiters wear onesies? Service is also good but not great. We had to ask for salt and pepper and waiter very long to pay the bill. We had a couple of starters with the ribs. Delish.
I was so stoked with the rustic decor and the ostrich theme, especially the story about the idiot at the entrance!
We went there for a light meal, and something to drink. The menu doesn't have too much to offer, but the dishes are really amazing. I opted for the soup of the day and it came in this cute little "potjie" with roosterbroodjies. The soup was smooth and creamy, and I added a bit of pepper to spice things up. My mom had wings and she was quite taken by the way it's served.
Definitely going back here for craft beer and more wings.
#NewIdiot
These guys! what can I say? I love their work... any place that has an ostrich behind the bar gets my vote. I reckon there's no better for great vibe and great food. Plus they Braai on a Sunday and have a dates and mates special on Tuesdays... #Winning
This place was a happening hub from day 1. It became the "go to place" for quite a while and today is always still full on weekends. They have good specials like their Tuesday evenings where two can eat for very cheap as well as their Sunday spit braai. Service when it is full is slow and the queues are really long. The food is good for meat eaters and is uniquely served. Not many vegetarian options.
Great spot in the heart of the Cape Town CBD. Huge restaurant come drinking hole that is frequented by a varied mix of people, from the after-work crowd to the youngsters and the odd traveler.
Great quirky decor elements and a really cool feel and funky look that lets you just slip into a relaxed vibe and take in some drinks and perhaps a spot of grub.
Nice varied wine list ,beer selection and the usual other suspects.
Food is a nice mix of smaller plates and platters to larger meals and heartier dishes.
We had the charcuterie platter and some sesame coated wings which were delicious and hit the spot and the charcuterie platter was nice with a varied selection of meats and relishes etc with bolting ,nuts and bread rolls.
We washed it all down with some G&Ts and let the day slip into the evening before we moved on to the next spot.
Cosy and cute. We did not eat there but I had the 2 of the strangest but delishous kalua coffee's. Big fire place and lovely decor. Relaxed and cozy

Awesome atmosphere, food is delicious, drinks are reasonable for town, and all round a good time. We had a birthday party here, and it was well catered for and food was delivered efficiently and on time even for the size table we had.
I really love how The Village Idiot has managed to embrace the South African "braai" culture and serve braai food at a restaurant.
Although I am vegetarian, the food played a small role in the overall experience. It was buzzing on a week night, mostly with people in the working age group. The decor is very unusual but the place was very much alive - great atmosphere for drinks with a few friends.
I had the braai vegetarian burger. Nothing quite like any other burger I have ever had, but nonetheless, quite tasty. Really enjoyed the typical braai side dishes. I had the melktert for dessert. It tasted just like a home made one and was the perfect way to complete my meal. My friends also really enjoyed the food. Definitely a great place to catch up and have a good night out!
Drinks are averagely priced. Didn't try the food. But despite being crazy busy, and a guy, I received pretty good bar service and the atmosphere is great. Great music!
What a great place! Went for a few drinks with some colleagues after work and had an awesome time. Although we didn't have anything to eat, the food making its way to other customers looked amazing. Can't wait to go back and try the food :)
Had such a nice time there. This place have got awesome vibe and atmosphere. Will def return. The food was good. There is some cosy couches and very cool decor
Full of everything which is great, food pretty good , have eaten a few different things on menu, service pretty good and beer selection good too, definitely worth a visit
The Village Idiot is a pretty trendy place in the centre if town. I went for a friends birthday. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The evening we were there, our booking had bren overrun by a wedding party running late. The staff kept us informed, found us a cosy spot next to the fire and made sure we placrd our orders as soon as we were ready. There is a wide range of drinks and craft beers. Their menu focusses more on snacky-type food, but their small dinner menu caters for all tastes. I had the ribs, which were tasty and thoroughly enjoyed my side salad and coleslaw that came with it.
Update: went back last night for a friends birthday - great time and all the platters were delicious. The service was excellent and it's easy to see why it is the new trendy spot in Cape Town
A great spot to catch up with friends. The decor is unusual and fun. The service was pretty good as well.
We mostly had starters, these were quite large. The halloumi salad was delish and the meat platter was very generous and tasty. We would definitely be back.
The place is very chilled with a relaxing vibe. Ideal to hang out with friends with a few drinks. Nicely decorated venue too! Weekends the place fills up very quickly and it is likely you might not get a seat to sit and will have to hang around the bar.
Emanate a Great vibe and presents a fresh perspective of braai food. The meat is well prepared and the presentation compliments the taste as well. The service is good and it's great for sundowners, a casual date and pretty much everything... I hope they explore more options for their menu without losing their identity.
Soooo frickin tasty!!!! So freakin' cool!!!!
I've been tossling between a 4.5 and 5 for a while now but I just enjoyed myself too much not to give full ratings.
The village idiot is definetely a place you hit up before a night out on the town, it has a very select menu but each of those items delivers the promise of tastiness I swear I enjoyed.
The food is very reasonable although the desserts are a bit pricey, below you can see pumpkin fritters made with condensed milk, easily the best thing invented\. Also devoured by me was a chocolate brownie topped with rooibos and honey ice cream, also extremely good.
The staff are super friendly and engaging and look like people you want to have a drink with, the service is quick and the food comes out blistering quickly.
The ambience is awesome, some golden oldies playing, everyone dancing, you can see everyone is ready to go out on the jol.
Come here with a whole bunch of friends and to get totally sloshed and have massive amounts of fun (WARNING: THE MARGHERITAS ARE SUPER DUPER PRICEY) or even just come and enjoy the incredibly delicious boerewors burger.
we had to struggle to find a spot here on Friday night but it was absolutely amazing. great good vibe and crowd, their burger was nice, large portions for my size! it was nice to see a couple's cocktail, pretty cool. it should be called, not for single people. it's not too expensive!
Cozy. Good service and delicious food. Sometimes bars tend to have below average side salads. This was not he case here. I like the ambience and feel. And considering all things, affordable.
To add to Cape Town's natural allure there are many eateries to keep you happily munching till the day you burst. Loop Street in particular has something for everyone, simply put it is a gastronomic adventure! To kick off, our first stop was the much talked about Village Idiot. A chilled Sunday afternoon meant we had a choice of tables on the balcony, with its high seating you have a view of the city around you. Keeping it light we ordered wine, beer and a snack filler being a braai board. The warm Roosterkoek made my heart melt along with the mouthwatering meats. Chutneys and preserves are my thing so enjoyed this sweet accompaniment. I was introduced to Oskar the famous ostrich with the enlightening story for you to enjoy on the walls by the stairs. The vintage decor is sublime with private rooms that already have me planning a party. Staff were friendly and prices reasonable.
To be honest I never been there for the food!
I went there for drinks with some drinks, I always have a good time there!
The place get very festive and the vibe is really nice!
This place has a great atmosphere. Perfect for a weekend night. The decor, & vibe is awesome. And the food is kiff! I had 'the braai board' which was well presented, tastey, & filling at a good price. A few people in my party had the burgers, which they all enjoyed, & some said the best they'd had in Cape Town. And the waiters are friendly, attentive, & beautiful!
Fabulous spot for after work drinks with colleagues. Stunningly decorated restaurant with wrap around balcony looking over Waterkant and Loop streets. Brilliant selection of beers, ciders and delicious bar snack platters will keep you coming back for more & more. Heard they have an excellent Sunday carvery too!
Friendly staff, very well decored place. They have a decent sized menu! The food was well presented and tasted as good as anything. They have ample of craft beer on taps so always a good place for after work drinks. Coming back for more.
Awesome vibe and great place for drinks. However the food is very dismal - ordered the taxi wings which were extremely chewy and boney, didn't eat much of them. Rather stick to their liquid menu :)
I absolutely loved this place! Camps bay socialites meet Cape Town hipsters. This place speaks to all types of people. The food is great for sharing and the cocktails are delicious. I definitely suggest trying the bionic tonic (especially if you are a gin drinker).
The food was pretty good- I tried the mussels cooked in coconut milk, lemon grass and chili served with warm home-made rolls [AMAZING] followed by having a boerie burger. The coleslaw served as a side with burger was very bland and way too moist. I will definitely come back for the mussels but as main meal :) .
The Village Idiot lives up to the hype. The ribs basically fell off the bone, the selection of craft beer is great and the vibe is awesome. The only criticism I might have is that the braai bord was a bit overpriced compared to the ribs. Would definitely go back!
I was excited to visit the much talked about bar/restaurant and had high expectations which left me feeling a little disappointed. The venue is great, spacious and the vibe is good although I was a bit disappointed at the attitude of some of the waitresses, having one roll their eyes at us when asked if we could add a chair to our table. The food was divine, the menu was smaller than I had expected but I loved the platters which are perfect snacks for evening drinks.
Very decent place. Great food, interesting decor and atmosphere. This is a good spot to come with friends and have a good time! Definitely more of a pub vibe as opposed to romantic dinner.
So I phoned and booked a table hoping to have a nice meal out. I guess that I should have researched the place a little better before choosing this venue for a Friday dinner... So we arrived there to find that we were reserved a small table between the bar and the waitron station at the entrance of the restaurant (very busy area). Once we realized what we were in for, and made adaptions to the expectations of the night, the situation didn't bother us as much. Let's just say that this place gets very full on a Friday night! The bustling atmosphere is great for a light snack and pre drinks on a night out in town. Not recommended for a couples dinner out. But on to the food... We started with the chicken wings and the mussels. Let me start by saying we didn't mind getting our hands dirty, those wings were divine! The mussels were fantastic too, I did however feel that although the presentation displayed well, it wasn't practical as it was tricky to eat. The wings get a 9/10 and the mussels get a 5/10, marked down due to awkward presentation. For mains I just had to go for the boerewors burger....and omw thank goodness I did! It was better than I could ever have hoped for! The patty was cooked to perfection and full of flavour amplified by the fantastic basting. The burger gets a top 8/10! Carly chose the veg sosatie, it was a little different to what we had expected, but not in a bad way. We found it to be light and filling with fresh flavours and get a generous 7/10. Overall a very nice bustling venue and I will definitely return with a different plan in mind.
Great ambiance, good décor. the place was quite full for a Wednesday afternoon. Ordered a burger and it was perfect, small portion size maybe. but with good sides and yum. The only reason I would rate 3 is because it took guys about 30 mins to even take a drink order. Would definitely come again.
Loud and fun. Crazy capetonians drinking and eating. Had a fantastic boerewors burger! Every village has an idiot. They're all here or a Friday night apparently. :)
So I find myself at Village Idiot frequently, but last week I had the opportunity to have dinner at this outstanding restaurant! I was blown away by the incredible flavours and impeccable service! Our waitress was fantastic and every element of food was unbelievable. There signature coleslaw side is amazing and the way everything is presented deserves 5 stars! This place has out done themselves :-)
Finally made it to this venue, it is a diner turn into a pub with a small dance floor by night. Great fun, great vibe. Expect to queue in.
Haven't had a chance to eat there yet. Will update next time on food.
Came back after 4 years and everything is still 10/10!
I'll come back every time due to the fact that everyone always makes you feel so welcome. So a big thank you to our waiter Matt and the Manager of the evening Daniel who made our night. My fiancée's birthday shots were spot on 👌
This place is one of a kind, I absolutely love the decor and the vibe and the food.
Awesome spot

The entrance looks a bit suspect but once you go upstairs, it has a great atmosphere. Friendly and attentive waiters. The food was incredible! Great music and DJ playing some 2000’s tunes.
Love this place. The chicken burger was huge but absolutely amazing. The best thing about this place is the vodka slushies. I had both the granadilla an raspberry & they were delicious - the servings could be bigger though. The place turns into a full on club by 10pm and becomes extremely crowded so I suggest going early if you are going for food only.

Really great food and vibe. Sometimes service can be slow.
But all and all great music and vibe on weekends and some weekdays.
Music does get bit repetitive towards the end of the evening.
I attended a networking event and it is a great venue with plenty bar staff and waitrons. The outside deck is perfect for mingling and drinking plus there's a dance floor to dance the night away on weekends. Unfortunately, there's a lot of signage requesting people to watch their valuables so I don't think it's a 100% safe.
What an absolutely wonderful place to go to.
The food is amazing and for the price it is well worth it.
The vibe is electric great atmosphere. The service and the employees are friendly and always there to assist when you need them.
Will definitely be back.
Wednesdays is bottomless wings and chips.. Delicious...
They had a pop up gin stall for R40 where you could choose all the toppings you desired..
The prawn curry was filling and tasted amazing.
The vibe is quirky and uniqie with a fire place for the winter nights and many funny sayings all of their walls and artwork that will keep your eyes entertained .. A good night out with good food and great venue
INITIAL RATING 3*: Bar staff is friendly and helpful even when it's super busy. Wait staff seemed overwhelmed. Food was average for the price. Over-promised and under-delivered a bit. Music was terrible.
.
EDIT: I've since been back to the Village Idiot and the second time around the service was much better. Our waitron was charming and very helpful. The food was much better than the first visit too. The place is busy and can get rowdy after a certain hour and as patrons become more and more lubricated.
Again, if jock-bros and chardonnay poppies are your vibe then this is one for you.
Amazing atmosphere, quite packed in the evening. Good selection of beverages and friendly staff.
Amazing music, people, and vibe. Ribs that fall off the bone, and filling mac n cheese with brie and mozzarella!! Great music - a great place to dance, have a drink, play some pool, and meet new people :)
Good place for a meal and evening drinks. The Manager was very accommodative of my food allergies. She helped me tweak their dishes so I could eat safely! Sadly didn’t get her name.
Jethro was great as our waiter, conversational and made sure he got my order right.
Luke was great at the bar with some entertaining information on how to mix drinks.

We have been suggested about this place by friends that previously lived in Cape Town, obviously we wanted to try to live like locals soooo...from the outside you won't expect nothing special, but inside it's amazing, wide, big, warm, cozy, comfortable, with a lot of funny items everywhere. We went here twice, first time for dinner, hamburgers were super good and beers too, yesterday we went back for drinks and we tried different beers and food as well! Staff particularly kind and efficient!
Great place for a night out with some friends or your partner. Food is amazing and the service is very good :-)
Everything was just good vibes from the waiter to the food to the atmosphere and especially the service from Deniel was 💯 definitely recommend and going back very soon😁
Excellent fare, got the deluxe braai board and a dessert and both were amazingly tasty. Coupled with a great local cider, it made for a great early dinner after a couple of long flights in. Planning on coming back here in a couple of nights to try some other local dishes and their spicy ginger beer.
Absolutely a lot of fun. If you are looking for somewhere to let your hair down, dance to some great music, have awesome service... This is the place to be... Enjoy!
Really nice hipster like bar, and the Burger deal was pretty amazing: R120 for a burger and a small beer. I didn't like the Standard Lager, but they have plenty of other beers to choose from.
