Review Bombay Bicycle Club - Cape Town Central

Drikus Oosthuizen
They have swings for chairs at one of the tables. The food was fairly good albeit a bit on the more "not so exciting for the price" category. With that being said, it was still nice and enjoyable. Overall experience was positive with friendly staff. There are hats available should you want to immerse yourself in the experience. We'll definitely return!

Great place, good vibes, friendly staff. Food tasted great! Cocktails were good as well. Would recommend a visit if you are ever in Cape Town.

Lovely, place, seating was a tiny bit uncomfortable, but due to us being seated 8 at the table. Parking is another issue but there is a parking behind one of the buildings. Other than that, food was amazing, still the best ribs i have ever had, this place sets the bar. Another favourite is the chocolate chilli steak, a must try. The mac and cheese balls were unique too. All this topped by a fun, honest and bubbly waitress. The manager was kind and funny too.

Not only is the decor so superbly unique, the food, cocktails and service are beyond phenomenal. Thank you dearest Sephora, Rees, Harry the musician and the rest of the team at Bombay Bicycle Club for making me feel extra special on my birthday.

What a lovely, cozy restaurant with a fully stocked bar and various nooks and crannies with dining tables. There is an upstairs section as well with a private dining area. The food is spectacular with a few vegetarian options as well. There is a car guard to watch the cars.

Amazing date night with bae at The Bombay Bicycle Club. Friendly wait staff and the Manager Mojo is super! Food is delightful. Decor and ambiance is quaint and intimate. Would suggest the Love Shack for extra privacy ^^

After being closed for the duration of the booze ban in SA we went around to The BBC for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised by the level of service we had from the waitron. The food was exceptional as always (the bobotie spring rolls and deep fried mac and cheese for starters, cheese burger and ribs for mains were all super yum) and their cocktails are fantastic. We sat in the very private, socially distanced and cute "loveshack" on the 2nd floor which had great views of the mountain.

Loved the atmosphere! Good was fabulous! A definite must visit.

I love this restaurant. The venue and design is quirky and amazing. The atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly and attentive. The food was very tasty and the location is great with good views. I highly recommend The Bombay Bicycle Club for a good evening. Booking is a good idea too.

First time at Bombay Bicycle and it was a really rad experience. Food was great, we ordered the baby chicken, Bombay cheese burger, chicken con polla pasta and a Bombay chicken burger. The vibe is pretty decent and I absolutely love the decor! Cocktails are a definite!

Had an exquisite experience at the Bombay Bicycle club! Their chili chocolate steak is to die for! The ambiance, the live entertainment, everyone joining in with the drum beat coupled with an amazing meal and excellent service left me speechless. The waitress knew the menu and specials off by heart, even though she was the only one on duty that evening in a packed venue, our food arrived surprisingly quickly. This place is always packed so a reservation is advised, but its well worth it!

Tried the ravioli from Bombay Bicycle Club, it was really good. Sundried tomato, spinach and feta I beiieve was the ravioi of the day. A bit of tang and lots of flavour, wished the portion size was a but bigger though. Not too sure were the Bombay part fits in to the picture but did not see much of any Indian theme in the restaurant or anything on the menu. The host and waiteress were on point, gave great service and accomodating our increased seating requirement as more people joined our table than we booked for.

Delightful ambience, great menu and fab hosts. Laid back but intimate dining options will go back again

Quirky. Don't know if it's a pub or a restaurant. It's either a pub with good food, or restaurant with great atmosphere. Good whiskey selection, with five different types of Jameson available. Enthusiastic staff!

My friends and I visited this place on a recommendation from a local, and were told they were completely booked for the days we were in Cape Town. When we came in for drinks the next day, however, a table opened up after a couple of drinks and the reservation didn’t show up so they let us sit down. It ended up being one of the best nights I have had during my trip. We all ordered steak dishes that were simply to die for and the vibe and staff were amazing. When we ordered tea afterwards and hats were brought out, we decided that we must have gone down the rabbit hole and ended up at the Mad Hatters Tea Party... I ended up coming back a few weeks later with my family who came over to visit me, and once again the food was amazing and the vibe just the same. This will always be a place of great memories of my stay in South Africa for me. Thank you for that.

Really good food and cocktails along with a really interesting decor. This place definitely stands out

Fresh pasta, helpful attentive service and an eclectic, inviting vibe. This place is very Cape Town, really laid back and at the same time on top of it's game. Would definitely revisit.
James Mader
Charmingly decorated and situated in a quiet part of the city with easy parking. Staff were friendly and enthusiastic. I had a seafood pasta and my partner had a vegetarian pasta with blue cheese and walnuts. Both dishes were very average and the portions were ridiculously small. We left feeling underwhelmed and a bit hungry.

We have a new favourite restaurant! We had a fabulous experience at BBC. From when we entered the eclectic space, the waitron, the ambiance and the food - it was perfect. Thank you for making our evening one to remember. It is definitely not the last time we will visit.

Great place to dine. Quirky and creative decor. Food is excellent. Drink menu is pretty decent. Friendly staff added to the fun atmosphere. Quite warm and cozy. Nice for hosting dinner parties.

A great venue for a fun birthday celebration! The starters of nachos was delicious followed by ribs (buy 1 get 1 free special which we didn't even know about... Bargain!), fall off the bone sticky finger licking goodness, a must try! For dessert we tried chocolate sigars and it ended the meal on a perfect high. Can't wait to visit again!
Chantell Fourie
The atmosphere is amazing and they have nice cocktails however the food is highly overpriced for what you get , I wasn’t impressed at all . <br/>When speaking to the manager blame was put on us for not letting him know earlier on about our food problem ,which was very unprofessional.
Annie
Such an awesome place, my first time therr and I was not dissapointed. Friendly staff, quick.service and amazing drink specials. Regrettably I was unable to try the food but I am definitely going back. A must on your list for a drink with mates in an awesome atmosphere.<br/>

Cosy little spot with quirky interesting decor. Great place for a date. The food was quite good and so was the service. Would definitely go back.
Francois De Beer
Poped in for there special 2 for 1 drinks as we normaly do. But this time we had 2 beers en 2 glasses of wine and then the bill was R199. Cause the waiter choice to give us the most exspensive wine that was not on the special and failed to tell us that. So not happy at all
Emily Boolsen
The decor & atmosphere is incredible but the EXTREMELY overpriced food ensures that I’ll only ever be popping in for a drink <br/>The food is literally so expensive in terms of what you get.... wouldn’t recommend unless you’re the type of person that buys everything from woolworths or are a millionaire
Diego Ten Thij
After hearing so much about this establishment I was very excited to come dine here. The decor looks like it could use a cleaning. My father ordered the nachos and these were the cheese flavored Doritos at the lovely price of R120, could have at least made it the New Mexican Jalapeño flavor!!!!! I ordered the Chicken wings starter and was highly disappointed to see that I only got 2 charred chicken wings with a “Ranch” sauce that was clearly the PNP no name brand mayo with a few pieces of Carrot chopped into it. <br/>Will never step foot in this establishment, nor will I recommend it to anyone.
Sarah Herrington
This is a place you have to come to at least once, even if just for the experience. They have the most funky and unique dĂ©cor and vibe, a really trendy place for drinks with the girls on Saturday night! We tried their cocktails (which were super strong), their nachos (which were amazing), and their Amarula creme brĂ»lĂ©e which was tasty, but didn’t have a very strong amarula flavour. Their service was average, and the food did take a while, but the atmosphere is well worth a trip in itself. Will be coming back to try their main courses!

I spent my birthday recently at this restaurant. I absolutely loved the ambience and the ethereal vibe to it. The staff were as friendly and welcoming as one would like. However, I was a bit disappointed with a few things. First, there was a specified selection of cocktails on the paper menu that they were serving rather than all that was on the menu, also the menu differed from what was online and so did the prices. This, however, was not what really got to me. I invited a few Muslim friends and even though I knew the place was not halaal friendly I tried to look at menu options which were excluding meat but then I found out that, contrary to the silence about it on the menu, there was alcohol in almost every dish even the calamari starter which I was quite baffled by. They could not accomodate my friends as all the sauces were prepared earlier the morning according to the waitress. This also astonished me because although I understand the pressure of a restaurant during its peak times, the food had tasted like it was prepared long before we arrived. The lamb in my pita was extremely dry and the sauce on my friend's pasta was purely a tomato sauce drowning the prawns.<br/><br/>I really expected much more value for money and if anything I would only go back for the cocktails during happy hour to make it worth my while.
Yajna Gold
Delicious food and a great experience all round as enchantresses danced around wearing glitter gear served us dark chocolate steaks and seafood. We also had the pleasure of sitting on swings for seats!
Emma Divaris
I love this place! With the insane decor, fun costumes, and crazy drink specials, Bombay Bicycle Club offers a totally different dining experience. They have two happy hours which offer 2-for-1 drinks on selected beers, wines, and cocktails. Their food is also delicious, and if you have a sweet tooth - try the Bombay chocolate cigars!
Lucy McGhie
Love this place, they were fully booked but bombay still made a plan for us! Such great service amazing cocktails very different and tasty and delicious food! Love the decor and how there were hats at our table made the evening so much fun !
Eleanora Bresler
Been dying to go here forever. The setting and ambience did not disappoint. Quite fascinating to take a look around the restaurant and take it all in.  The food was average and in fact was disappointed that I ordered the pasta as was really not worth it for the price or taste or portion size. The Dom Pedro was tasteless-not sure where the Amarula disappeared to. The cheesecake was not bad. Not sure I would frequent this place on a regular basis-good for a once off experience.

I had an terrible experience when trying to order some tap water - according to our waitress, the restaurant no longer serves tap water and only serves bottled water due to the drought. I again asked for tap water later in the evening, and was given the same response - I eventually ordered a 500ml bottle of water for R18. Big surprise - the water is sourced from Franschhoek (which lies in the Western Cape drought region).<br/><br/>A reminder to the restaurant that such a drinking water policy is in violation of their liquor license - free drinking water should always be available to patrons if you’re serving alcohol. Please change the policy ASAP - there are more effective ways of reducing water waste.

Unfortunately Zomato doesn’t allow for a negative rating. If they did, after my experience tonight - this would be in minus territory.<br/><br/>It’s hard think that Bombay Bicycle Club was one of the first restaurants I’d recommend to friends and colleagues when visiting Cape Town from <br/><br/>Enter Bombay Bicycle: A first encounter with the manager after being asked to move to another table (thanks to the blaring speaker), results in us being told that Bombay is REALLY loud... and that we should have checked the website because apparently it’s all over the website. Yeah, right. I’m still looking for that sign - CLEARLY, I MISSED IT.<br/><br/>Anyhow, moving on - to the wine list. After much deliberation, we settle on a bottle of Vondeling Baldrick Shiraz. The waitress arrives with the bottle, and sarcastically offers a taste - to which she then blurts out “I guess it doesn’t really matter anyway because you ordered it and you’ll still have to pay for the bottle”. Needless to say, the wine was putrid.<br/><br/>Now whilst I’m no Sommelier myself, as an avid wine drinker (and part-time foodie, who happens to have had the good fortune of eating and drinking in some of the most highly acclaimed Michelin starred restaurants in the world), I feel sick to the core thinking about how unfortunate that some customers could be subjected to this. Oh, and in case you’re wondering - it has nothing to do with the wine. <br/><br/>Enter Bombay Bicycle ROUND 2. Ding ding ding... So the manager comes over again after being told we can’t just have the glass of the wine and will have to pay for the entire bottle (that they happen to sell by the glass). To inform us that there is nothing wrong with the wine, and that supposedly no one has complained in nine years. Now by this stage I thought I’d been dealt the knockout blow. And then the uppercut smacks me right in the jaw - the manager who has told me there is nothing wrong with the wine also tells me he doesn’t drink alcohol.<br/><br/>Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the wine is stored upright and on a shelf next to a window that sees temperatures in excess of 30 Celsius on a daily basis. Again, I can’t be certain because I’m no Sommelier... <br/><br/>Sadly by this stage we had already ordered starters. Before we could call for the bill.<br/><br/>Here goes ROUND 3... hopefully for the K.O. <br/><br/>Grilled Cajun Calamari. Now my mouth is watering. But this time, it’s not from sheer excitement, it’s from pure disgust at the amount of salt that has been added to my dish. Forget Cajun. Himalayan Rock Salt Lollipops don’t have anything on this calamari tonight. The bread however is absolutely superb (for oven baked-roasted-however else it’s cooked-bread).<br/><br/>By this stage, the Greek Salad is absolutely perfect as a palate cleanser and no sooner did we sit down, THANKFULLY - the bill was on our table and we were on our way out the door!<br/><br/>My dearest Bombay, you know you’re in trouble when the best part of the evening was the bread.<br/><br/>Meal aborted. <br/>K.O.

<br/>I visited Bombay Bicycle Club for dinner with friends on Thursday night. Unfortunately the delicious meal was spoiled somewhat by bad service which left us feeling unwelcome.<br/>To start with, we were told by our waitress that the restaurant would not serve tap water because of the drought, so we had to buy bottled water. The drought is a serious crisis, but it seems a bit disingenuous to use the drought as a way to make huge profits off of selling bottled water. They were charging R18 for 500 ml. The restaurant can easily go buy a couple of 5l bottles and charge a decent amount of money per glass if it insists on not serving tap water. <br/>However, the main problem was practically being shooed out the door by our waitress. While we were halfway through dessert she came to tell us that she would need the table in ten minutes, and then repeatedly badgered us while we were sorting out the bill. We were a party of seven, so it took a few minutes to resolve. In the end she was giving us updates about how the new group was getting impatient for their table. The net result of this was a strong feeling that we were not particularly welcome any longer.

I had a really rude welcome unfortunately, but the tasty gin made up to it. I love the way they have decorated the interior. It is so interesting that I was distracted from conversing with my company.

Love love Love! The vibe, the ambience, the food, the staff!! Went last night for a birthday celebration with my friend. Made a reservation (thank goodness because they were fully booked) and my bestie and I ended up in the Loveshack. I guess they thought the reservation for two meant it was for a couple... nevertheless, absolutely loved it in our little private table. Our waitress was beyond awesome and actually made our evening one to remember. I had the Pork belly and I did not regret it for a second. Good value for money and absolutely yum! Bombay will see us again and again for every birthday celebration!

It is a quirky and different dining experience. The food is also really good and full of flavour. It has a wonderful vibe and I recommend the 'love shack' if you're going for a romantic dinner. <br/><br/>Unfortunately for my first experience their booking system and management were disappointing. They had overbooked the restaurant and handled the situation poorly and rudely. I vowed to actually never go back! But I had wanted to try the food for years so I went again and if you book well in advance hopefully they will not mess you around. It's worth a try đŸ‘ŒđŸŒ

Myself and a few friends went to Bombay last night for some drinks after supper and were blown away by the whimsical decor. It's different to any place I've ever been to before. Apart from the aesthetic, I found it to be overwhelmingly average. As I've dined at Madame Zingara before maybe I was expecting the same level of service which we did not get. Our waitress took 15 mins before even attending to us, another 10 to place us inside and then another 10 to actually bring us our menus. We ordered gin based cocktails called the Bottings Botanical and the Raspberry Collins. Both of them were pretty amazing, full flavoured and unique. I then ordered the Porn Star which was a little pricey but worth it and mixed really well. <br/><br/>I'll be back to sample more cocktails but honestly the service was subpar and dampened my evening to a certain extent.

I went here a while back and I can safety say that those little restaurants tucked away in little corners by the themselves have the best food ever hands down. The prawns were so fresh and the butternut so creamy along with the smashed potatoes, absolutely beautiful. The staff were very friendly and attentive, as soon as all 5 of us got in we were given a table and little hats to wear. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet spot to eat good food and just relax. I'll definitely be coming back soon.

I love this place for the decor and eclectic feel. A la Zingara.<br/><br/>The food is pretty decent, but pricey.<br/><br/>Awesome place to hang out and enjoy a few too many drinks over the weekend.
Giulia M. Di Marino
It's a funny place. You need to book a table in advance because its always full. They have a happy hour but only on beer and tequilas. The prices are a bit higher. I love the chocolate chili steak.
Liani
Not impressed at all.<br/><br/>The decor and staff are quirky. Our waitress was really friendly. But it feels as if all of them are really busy running around, but in a very insufficient manner. <br/><br/>They are very unaccommodating for vegans, except with prior notice. They do not add or substitute anything. They have their right to be that way, but just gives me more reason not to go back. They do not put any effort into the presentation of the food. <br/>Friends who had the lasagne & the lamb shank enjoyed their meals, other 2 friends who had different vegetarian pastas found it bland. My salad was okay. Pretty standard. <br/>The cheesecake was quite good. <br/><br/>Evening was too bad, still enjoyed the slight chaos, but the company I was with definitely made the evening, otherwise this review would have been worse...<br/><br/>Prices are high for what you get...
Francis
Don't go there expecting an amazing service. Go there and try the chocolate chilly steak, have a beer and enjoy the vibe. Quite a different interior design compared to the standards. Worth a visit
Dani
My previous experience at Bombay had my table being served by a waitress so obliterated drunk our cocktails arrived at our table half full from her spilling them. I returned to give Bombay another chance and hoped for the best. The staff was better but the experience ruined by horrid music (I arrived at 7pm to poor house music). When asked if they could change the music and they said no. Food is fine but overpriced and nothing special. With the variety Cape Town has to offer, won't be wasting my time or money here again.
Chris Rafael
Bombay is an amazing place to just to look at. It's like a hipster museum exploded inside. There is so much to take in and even after being here several times I still find something new I hadn't seen before. The staff are great the service is quick and they have great strawberry daiquiris. I've only been to the bar because it's always full for dinner. The food does look good and I can't wait to come and review a meal.
Melanie Du Toit
I've only popped in here for a drink, much to my own dismay, as I've heard consistently good things about their food. That said, the cocktails are good, and ordering a G&T is a must.
Adrian De Graaf
Fun fun fun! From the swings, old books and entertaining waitrons, the evening becomes about more than just the food. Went a couple of months ago but I can still taste the chocolate and chilli steak. Always eat your meal while wearing one of the hats that can be found there or what's the point ;)
Nozishada
Considering the recommendation, I must say that I was disappointed. Perhaps it was what I ordered, or the dripping air conditioner behind us but I simply didn't get the vibe 😞. I found the decor extremely overwhelming for my taste but I will resort to that I may not be who their target market is. I think if you're into hippy and vintage stuff, this type of restaurant will rock your world. I had many things that didn't satisfy my. The prawns were average, red wine didn't go down well, dessert wasn't what I expected but that was on me because I expected custard with my malva pudding.
Mornay Elizabeth Schoeman
Four people, one glass of wine each, three mains, one side dish, three desserts, R900 including tip. Quirky, bohemian interior, maybe you don't actually want to see the place in daylight! (Who actually cleans ALL THAT STUFF!)<br/>Food was good, desserts yummy, staff friendly! So why only 3.5?<br/>Think I expected more, it all kind of creates an expectation, that doesn't ever deliver!<br/>So I've been, won't go again in a hurry, but if you want to try something different, give it a go.
Vanzyl.lauren56
Unbelievably amazing! The service was unbelievably efficient and just phenomenal. The food was delightfully phenomenal and just the overall experience was wonderful. A hidden gem in the heart of Cape Town!
Julian Meyer
Had my birthday dinner here and they confirmed by reservation by phone after booking months ahead. I had the brie parcels as a starter and the pork belly as a main. The food was delicious... The decor rather eccentric, but the service way too slow unfortunately
Shinéad
Not much to say about this spot. I'm a Madame Zingara fan, but this place is nothing to rave about. Their menu however is quite interesting and sounds tasty. A friend and I shared the Phyllo Parcels. The creamy wild mushroom sauce was more delicious than the actual phyllo parcels. For mains, I had the Con Pollo Pesto pasta, which was okay'ish. I love pesto, but could barely taste it. A friend had the Fungi Neri pasta, which was good. Another friend had the Pear & Brie starter salad, which looked like a main - portion was quite big, and she loved it. We sat outside as they were fully booked inside, and busy, but our waitress, Sephora, checked on us every 10 or so minutes which was great. One thing that irked us a bit though, was that mid-convo with my friends, the manager 'told' us to get up from our seats, to open another door, for a waiter to bring a spare table inside. He didn't ask, he told us to, and didn't even apologize for the inconvenience or say thank you after all of that. He didn't even move our table back to where it was, another customer sitting close by, got up to move it for us. <br/>Nonetheless... I guess I'd go there again, but I'm definitely not in a rush to. Bookings are recommended.
Jaclyn
Best chocolate chili steak ever! Definitely a must try. Awesome atmosphere with lots to see. The place is smaller and more intimate than pictures perceive. Friendly staff, will definitely go back!
Kerryn Rehse
I was part of a large corporate booking (booked set menu and prepaid) that went to Bombay Bicycle Club last week Wednesday. The booking was for 20h30. First round of drinks took just over 30 mins to come out. Starters which were group platters took more than an hour to be served despite querying their whereabouts numerous times. Once starters were ordered the rest of the meal, mains and dessert, were served timeously and we're delicious.<br/>Service on the other hand left much to be desired.
Verlynn Johnson
Really like they menu it felt like I could order the whole menu. I had the slow roast pork belly with a salsa verde and it was delicious. Our waitress was super amazing she explain everything so nicely to you and with my one friend who was a vegetarian. She gave her lots of option what to get. The vibe in the restaurant is amazing they play 80's/ 90's music which i really enjoy. The decor was a bit crazy but the probably fell in they them. The only criticism that i have is that its a very small restaurant and not much space to move around if you waiting on your table to be seated. Remember to book cause they are always full...
Vivien Natasen
This quaint little spot is owned by the same people that own madame zingara so the decor is an off-the-wall ensemble of interesting stuff which actually works in terms of ambience. The food menu is frequently changed making it exciting for regular visitors to experience something new all the time. Service is also friendly and efficient. The cocktails are also very good. <br/><br/>I had the chicken which was moist and I didn't have to fight with it with some good sauces. The pasta choices had by some of the people in our party were also good. Really nice hole-in-the-wall if you want to venture all the way to the top of Kloof street area.<br/>
Richard Bower
The Bombay Bicycle Club is somewhere I have always been keen to visit. It has a real quirky atmosphere with some hectic decorations inside. The restaurant is upbeat and funky - a given based on the face that it is associated with Madame Zingara.<br/><br/>The restaurant was pretty noisy and our table was situated right next to the speaker which didn't help the noise. There was also a strange smell from burning incense but I guess that's part of the vibe? <br/><br/>The food was actually really good. I tried something that I have always wanted to try - fillet with a chili chocolate sauce. I must say I really enjoyed it!
Zeenat Patel
If you don't care about quality and taste of food and you don't have hygiene issues, this place is for you! Upon entering the restaurant I got a whiff of a not so pleasant odour. The decor may be quirky but with so much 'stuff' everywhere I wonder how clean the place is. To quote a friend...this place is where all the props from madame zingara have gone to die. I had the calamari for starters and the fish for main. The pasta dish was just a bowl of pasta with minimal flavors that were promised... there was nothing exotic about the mushrooms in the pasta. The steak was not done to perfection and the dessert just didn't taste as promised. Basic menu with fancy descriptions and the basics were not tasty. Oh and the place is a fire hazard.
Johnny Jol
Our table had five swings instead of chairs, so we were in for something different from the start. Decor is very interesting if not a tad overwhelming. Staff are entertaining and involved. Although the cocktail our waitress recommended wasn't very nice, she dealt with it in a great way.<br/>My partner's chocolate/chilli steak was excellent, friend's surf&turf was also good. I had the "in the arms of" pasta dish, and although delicious, the portion was a bit small (and I'm not a big eater).<br/>Chocolate cigars for desert were rather good as well.<br/>Would recommend this place for a slightly off the wall and more entertaining dining experience that still has the quality where it counts.
Celeste Tsang
The interior is unique and quirky with objects and designs randomly retrieved from everyone's old attics or going on a random shopping spree. The swing chairs are a must to sit on, so much fun to feel like a child again. I was quite disappointed in the food. My friend ordered the steak with cheese (on their special menu) but sent it back as it tasted a bit stale or old. I didn't think much of it. Then on another occasion I ordered the prawns, half of them weren't cooked properly and had to be sent back again. I was most upset about the fact that they weren't even sorry that my prawns were raw. I unfortunately wouldn't go back because there food is just not up to standard and I really can get better elsewhere. Their chocolate chilli steak really is their saving grace. Other than the food, I really love the interior and 'happy hour'.

Firstly, the setting is perfect . It is honestly so beautiful and perfectly dim (bohemian and indie vibes) Apt sitting for a romantic candlelit date, friendly date or just a group of friends meeting to catch up . It's fitting for any scenario honestly. I didn't even get to take a picture of the setting because I was so taken by it and was just enjoying it!!<br/><br/>Service was amazing (except the drinks part, will explain below) and our waitress took the time to actually go into the specifics when it came to how our meal was prepared and what was in it etc etc.<br/><br/>Did not actually like the cocktails, my partner says his cocktail (Long Island) was a bit watered down. My margarita was good except she did not ask whether I wanted t straight or frozen or even asked about the flavor/told me what flavours they had. <br/><br/>We had prawn wontons for starters and the flavours worked so well together, chili sauce, guacamole and rocket.<br/>I had the pork belly which had the perfect blend of citrus and herb flavours stuffed in it. I think it was also stuffed with blue cheese.<br/>My partner had the oven roasted beef and he says it was well cooked and he thoroughly enjoyed it (hes very picky and hardly enjoys anything or is just indifferent about it) <br/><br/>All in all , very good experience would definitely go back.

I am a big fan of the Madame Zingara chain and as such, really wanted to like the Bombay Bicycle Club. However, I found my food experience there to be slightly underwhelming. I had the con pollo pesto and it was good, but it did not blow me away. Service was a tad on the slow side. One thing I must say is that the decor and general atmosphere is great though.
Meera Naik
This is one of the most hipster restaurants I have been to! Somewhere I would go primarily for the atmosphere. Everyone here is just full of energy! The service is great and they are so helpful when it comes to picking your meal. They don't have a very large selection of dishes on their menu, but you will definitely find something that will make you happy. I didn't think that my meal was very tasty but I loved the overall experience. They have a regular happy hour and I think it's just about whether you get lucky and happen to be there. Their desserts are also definitely worth a try.

My favorite bar in Cape Town - I never get tired of the vibe here! Crazy decor, awesome staff, great music and tasty food. A really fun place!
Danieljake
Bombay Bicycle Club is one of the most unorthodox dining experiences in Cape Town. <br/><br/>Everything about it is unique: the Madame Zingara-like decor, the unusual menus items, and the cocktails. <br/><br/>We came here before First Thursdays for sundowners and ended up eating as well. <br/>Being a coffee lover, I ordered the 'coffee martini' which was literally a martini with a shot of espresso topped with coffee beans. It was incredible. <br/><br/>I had the 'Surf & Turf' which was a half rack of ribs & prawns. The ribs were some of the best I've tasted in Cape Town. The meat literally almost falls off the bone. <br/><br/>The atmosphere is so alternative. There are swinging chairs and the restaurant is decorated with a plethora of old pots & pans and photographs and interesting things. <br/><br/>We loved it. <br/><br/>
Melissa Marengo
crazy cool atmosphere, loved the decor and vibe definitely a Cape Town gem. We had the special fillet with chilli chocolate sauce, presentation was average but the fillet and sauce combo was very tasty and highly recommended. Would go again
Asi Peretz
Fantastic decor and great ambiance! A great place to go with your friends before a night out. I had the chili chocolate fillet. Great tasting sauce, the fillet was tough. Food presentation was poor. Sides of broccoli potatoes and butternut look like they were microwaved leftovers from the night before.

Beautifully unique down to the fur-lined bathroom walls. Quirky decor and great ambience. Casual and laid back which is deceptive because the food is amazing and definitely of fine dining standards. Small menu but food is sublime. Happy Hour until 6 pm and nice and quiet just before then to soak up the vibe. Gets busy afterwards but adds to the ambience. Great service. Would definitely go back.

This is a real gem in a lot of different ways. Very authentic decor and feel. Cosy space with candlelit tables and you can even grab a random hat if you feel like getting festive. Ate some of the best arrabbiata sauce! Really flavorful and quick service!

Food: 5<br/>Drinks: 5<br/>Service: Usually 5 (but I've had one bad experience that nearly put me off the restaurant as a whole<br/>Would I go back: 100% - One of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town<br/>Recommendations: If you're going on a date ask for the "love shack"

Tremendously entertaining, bizarre and fun. Take in the intriguing Bohemian decor while sitting on a swing dangling from the ceiling and sipping cocktails. Try the stuffed pork belly. You have to book quite far ahead as they are extremely busy, but it is worth it! An unforgettable dining experience.
Nicol Miller
Quirkiest decor, lively waiters, and a cosy atmosphere. To eat I ordered Prawn wontons( with ginger and soy) as well as Chocolate cigars for dessert( a few caramel vodka shots added to that). Best part of the night, the swing at the door!

One of the coolest spots for dinner in the city! A quirky bohemian vibe that will leave you fascinated and amused! The food is of a high standard as is the service provided by mostly tattooed waitrons with great personalities and attitudes!! A fun evening will keep you going back.... Book the table with swings instead of seats to ensure a good laugh. (Affiliated to Madam Zingara which is another 'must do' experience.)
@natsnotfazed
We had a lovely dinner, the food was devine and portions generous. We had the chilli chocolate beef fillet and prawns, would definitely recommend both. Happy hour from 5-6 was a bonus!

I was really disappointed by the evening the Bombay Bicycle Club provided last night! After being seated we had to wait a further ten minutes to be served and when we were served the beers were warm. While the food was really tasty our waitress forgot to order one of the meals! All in all the scenery was amazing, the food was really good but the service was a huge let down! After all the fantastic reviews I have heard, I was bitterly disappointed by the experience😔

Probably one of my best dinner experiences in Cape Town. Don't be fooled by the name, as a Bombay boy, I don't relate anything Bombay to the place except for the beautiful ring to it. The place was cosy & well decored with old school charm. We had a very knowledgeable waitress & excellent service, love it when the staff of a place knows the menu inside out. The food was excellent and could definitely chow more. They have a few quirky things going on for them, nice experience. Coming back.

My partner and I decided to visit this restaurant on our last anniversary. I booked a table in the loveshack, a cute little table which was placed in an indoor shack. I was really intrigued by the quirky decor of the place. It really is beautiful. The food was honestly just very average. Nothing wrong but nothing great either and lacking a bit of salt. Service was excellent and the waiter was very pleasant.
Betina Jacobs
It's a fun venue. Interesting menu and decent cocktails. Unfortunately FOOD POISONING is inexcusable. Beware the fish! No refund, no apologises.
Talia Lee Cohen
Bizarre and mischievous - from the staff to the decor! The best seats are upon the swings, if you don't get motion sickness 😆 the dishes fall through a little, you'd expect something more playful, like their cocktail infusions... And I had hoped there'd be a change in the menu after so many years hey...

" you gotta eat here "<br/>This place has a funky fun house!!!!!! <br/>Small and cosy, decorated in warm colours, very creative and funky inside... Such a great atmosphere <br/>Bubbly and welcoming... <br/>One of my favorite places to go eat, there food is really made with soul so fresh and tasty <br/>I always go for the truffle infused prawn risotto never disappoints... <br/><br/>Such a fun place to go have a dinner party xxx

I’m in love with this place. The kitsch and bizarre dĂ©cor makes for a one-of-a-kind experience. The atmosphere is intimate, but at the same time extremely vibrant – a combination you don’t often see. I would highly recommend their famous chilli chocolate steak, or the pescatore pasta. Fantastic food accompanied by great service!
Chloe
Consistently good food, worth every rand. I love the decor, everytime you look around you find something different. Waiters are great, service is quick. Music is great but does not really encourage conversation as it's very loud. We sat at the swing table and had a great evening!

Where i got my love for Madam Zingara, and the entire brand! <br/>Very interesting concept, and layout of this little place.<br/>We sat n the love shack (was our anniversary) and it was so much fun!<br/>Felt like we lived in a story book!<br/>Food is delicious! I like that they have a corkage fee. The service was very good! All in all, his is a must! take your friends, your partner, or just go alone! The staff are more than capable to entertain you!!!

Went here for my 3 year anniversary and it was amazing!! Had the best risotto of my life. The prawn and artichoke risotto is highly recommended (what I ordered). The service and overall vibe is great!! Will definitely coming back. I love the interior and small details- nice and different

The Bombay Bicycle Club.....<br/><br/>What an interesting place!! Were here a few months ago and vowed to come back. <br/><br/>So, we were back.... with high expectations.........a bit disappointing 😞. <br/><br/>We made the booking weeks ago to ensure that they know we are vegetarian and could prepare for this upfront.... I mean, we came here all the way from Pretoria....<br/><br/>We also made sure of this arrangement when we changed the booking to also include friends and when we confirmed the booking earlier in the day. <br/><br/>They did absolutely nothing about this request and simply offered to swap the egg noodles for Chinese rice noodles after being told that we should have made prior arrangements!! - which we obviously did...<br/><br/>It was clear that this was not thought through properly as the dish was very boring and disappointing. <br/><br/>Unfortunately this is now a case of been there...... done that.......<br/><br/>Have no reason to return.....😞😞<br/><br/>Too many other really nice restaurants in this neighborhood.

March an eccentric little restaurant. Every space of this little restaurant is filled with detailed trinkets and briar idyl sections. The waitresses are all very trendy and dressed up to fit into the environment.<br/><br/>The food is really amazing. We had the prawn wontons, ravioli stuffed with crab and leak, phyllo parcels (delightful), sesame seed covered tuna and the schoolmate chilli fillet (which is a staple special).<br/><br/>Definitely going to be revisiting!

I was recently there<br/>for a birthday. It was a 70th. This place is so well thought out and caters for<br/>everyone. <br/><br/>Our waitress was also<br/>excellent. <br/><br/>I had a mojito and it<br/>was delicious. <br/><br/>For my main meal I had<br/>a rack of ribs and it fell off the bone. <br/><br/> <br/><br/>This was my second<br/>visit and I will definitely be back.

Great vibe and decor, very intimate, good service, but the food was horribly over priced for the portion sizes. We are a large table that ordered most of the menu, and all portions were surprisingly small. In my case, don't go for the 'famous' ribs for 180, most disappointing ribs I've had in years.

It's hard for me to write this review because I can tell that this place is vibey and can be lots of fun. Our experience here last night wasn't that. <br/>The restaurant decor is done madam zingara style - so bohemian and vibrant. The music is loud and pumping. I would say a good combination for a group of friends out, not so much a dinner for two. <br/>The bathrooms however was disgusting! And being a saturday night; both me and my bf bumped into people coming out of the loo who was clearly high and in my case the 'lady' made quite a mess in the bathroom. This is obviously not the restaurants fault but it Seem to attract that croud. <br/>The food was good, above average, but it didn't fit the price tag. It's very over priced. <br/>The service was terrible!! I think this however is the restaurants fault. They squeeze as many tables in as possible and the wait staff seem to struggle to cope. <br/>I might excuse every thing and give it another go if it wasn't so overpriced for what you get
Julie Taylor
The setting is very quirky, everything mismatched and eclectic. The restaurant was full on the Wednesday night we went. The food was very average and portions (fish) was on the small side. We had a large table and got to sample all of the desserts, the brownie being the best of the lot. The atmosphere was festive and flamboyant. A good time was had by all, but as you expect from Madame Zingara, the food was not the star of the show :)
Chanel Candice Daniels
Loved the steak and Long Island cocktail.. the waitress was very attentive and friendly. The overall concept of the restaurant is cool. The food arrived within 20min of ordering. We were lucky enough to get the happy hour aswell.. đŸžđŸ»<br/>

Ok there's a qualification to this review: it was a business dinner (albeit a very casual one with fun people).<br/><br/>The place was buzzing when we arrived. Mostly with the noise of tipsy (I'm being polite) students, hipsters and their hippie buddies.<br/><br/>Inside the decor is Moulin Rouge-ish and could do with a thorough cleaning. Tables are close together making it intimate. Whatever you do make sure your seat doesn't face Hof Street - every time a car stops at the stop street you get headlights in the eyes. <br/><br/>Service was, well, Cape Town. Friendly and welcoming but scarce just when you need them. <br/><br/>Food was great. Everyone had a good meal and I'd go back just for that. <br/><br/><br/><br/>

Best prawn and ribs in town, the surf and turf really kicks in, very energetic environment coupled with friendly people and friendly staff. Hidden gem in the heart of Cape Town

My favourite restaurant in Cape Town! Having been to Madame Zingara and having the most delicious meal, my expectations were high. And the food did not disappoint. I had the pesto pasta which the waitor suggested I replace the green pesto with red pesto as it was so much tastier and he couldn't have been more right. It was by far the best pesto pasta I have ever had (and I have had my fair share of pesto pasta!). My two friends who I went with, both chose the chilli chocolate steak (a Madame Zingara favourite) which is not on the menu but you can order it.<br/><br/>I love the food, vibe, wacky decor and awesome people. It is such an experience and is an absolute MUST if you are in Cape Town!

Been there twice and totally loved the ambiance. Sometimes booking a table is required but most times you can just walk in or take one of the tables outside the restaurant. The service is quick, smooth and does not give you any window for complaint. It's a fairly economic place to just go with your friends and enjoy. Ordered the Chef's ravioli, which was amazing! Their bar is equipped with almost all the brands.
Glen Loxton
Fairly pricey but the food is exceptional, get the ribs, do it. The setting is downright wacky (think concentrated extract of Madame Zingara) and the ambience is best described as noisy as hell. Not for introverts or tightly strung people. Service is as one would expect from a MZ branch, super friendly and full of personality.

This place is awesome!!! If you want a viby dinner then head over to this gem!! The food is delicious and the staff are awesome!! They have a special (not sure every night) but at 10pm, you can by one get one free on certain drinks. And yes one of them is tequila...my favorite!<br/><br/>The interior is quirky and weird..and I love it! With drums hanging off the ceiling and door knobs on the stair rail. Did I mention the swinging chairs??? <br/><br/>I had the phyllo parcels which are to die for. But the must is the ravioli, was a crab and ginger with a Thai sauce or the famous steak with chocolate sauce!!! Unbelievable!!! The food here is a winner!!
Chantal Simons
Awesome location, laid back vibe, delicious food and great service! This place has it all! The chocolate chilli steak is a definite must try

Having been to Madame Zingara I expected the same sort of vibe and atmosphere. BBC is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town. <br/><br/>For starters my boyfriend and I shared the phyllo parcels which was delicious! I wanted more, but decided to calm down and wait for my mains. I ordered the con pollo pesto and my boyfriend ordered the free range chicken which again was really delicious. Both dishes were flavorsome and enjoyed thoroughly. <br/><br/>What I love about the MZ owned restaurants is that it is more than just dining. It's fun and out of the ordinary. Whilst we waited for our food our waiter gave us props to put on so we could capture cool pictures together. This is just one of the cool things they offer. <br/><br/>I will definitely be going back for more magical food and fun!

Unfortunately when I visited the Bombay Bicycle Club they had loadshedding. Despite this, we were seated and enjoyed a bottle of wine until things were up an running. The service was great and the decor is unique.<br/><br/>We started with the drunken camambert. As a lover of cheese, I thought it was exceptional. For mains I had the linguine pasta. The portion was generous and the goats cheese flavour mixed in the pasta was so good. <br/><br/>The entire evening was a great dining experience with the music, decor, theatrics and great food.
Jaclyn Woods
Amazing food, and great service. They also have some great cocktails. I'd recommend the seafood pasta - it's impossible not to eat the whole large portion in one sitting!<br/><br/>The only issue I had was how loud the music is played. We could not hear what each other were saying most of the time. As someone who is fairly soft spoken it was quite frustrating. Sitting outside, on the other hand, was great.
Clumsy Peaches
Quaint Overly decorated little gem!<br/><br/>Cocktails are pretty & taste equally yum.<br/><br/>Mains: Surf & Turf <br/>Short Ribs that are saucy and soft paired garlic prawns and side serving of homemade veggies.<br/><br/>A dining experience for the not so claustrophobic.
Tiago SimÔes
Truly one of the best restaurants to visit in Cape Town!great food...the ribs are out of this world, the service is quite unique, decoration is fantastic the only problem is to get a reservation. The only restaurants that usually I go at least two times in each visit to Cape.
Mike Varney
Shabby from the outside but in line with the brilliant experience that awaits within. Delicious flavours paired nicely together. The combination of the entertainment, great service and vibe makes this a regular on the list!

Went to this lovely restaurant on Saturday 10 Oct 2015. What a great place. The vibe is amazing, the food is amazing, the staff are amazing. I had the privilege of ordering the oven roasted beef. Beautifully cooked rib eye with a delicious mushroom sauce and a generous portion i might add, served with a variety of veg. Really worth the try!
Claudio
What an interesting little place. Decor is weird and awesome at the same time. Our waiter was super efficient. The phyllo pastry starter is a winner and the chillie chocolate steak is unbelievably delicious. Dessert was disappointing. Berry crumble was overheated and tasted like something off the shelf at pick n pay and heated in the microwave. Otherwise a must experience.
Kendall Donohoe
Every time I've been here, the food has been really good and the frozen margaritas have been even better! I also love the cozy environment and the staff is great as well. If you stay late enough they bang on the drums hanging from the ceiling and announce the 2 for 1 specials!
Therena
Went to Bombay Cycle last night. Vibe is amazing, original and hippish. Decor is interesting, artsy and really stunning. Food is spectacular, professional, masterchefish, made with love and exquisite. You just have to go, go, go and go to Bombay Cycle!!
Stacy Scott
Bombay Bicycle falls under madame zingara so you can already know what to expect, love the characters that the staff play every night and with such unique decor you can't help but come back!
J.J. Mancini
One of our favorites! This place is unique - you can spend your entire meal enjoying the decorations & music. They can get crowded so you'll want to make a booking! <br/><br/>Now for the food. Let me start off by saying I prefer vegetarian but crave ribs. I can't explain it. But because I don't eat a lot of meat I am super super picky with my ribs. They can't be too fatty. They can't have nodes of tendon (gag) or anything else questionable. Enter Bombay bicycle club. Their ribs... I can't even put to words how amazing they are. AND to make life even better they have a buy one rib plate get one free every Monday. Heaven. <br/><br/>If you aren't into ribs you could order anything else on their menu and be quite happy. Everything is flavor-full and will make you do the happy dance in your seat with each bite. Go eat and drink here and be merry. Or be sad that you missed out on the experience.

Awesome Experience. Right from the starters to the main course to the deserts - it was top stuff written all over. A very chilled and bohemian style ambiance. Highly recommended.
Susan Searle
Quite disappointed with my meal- took a medium sized group of friends- everyone said their food was fine but my veal pasta was not great. Not worth complaining as I think it is made like that. Might go back but will stick with steak.
Coral Le Roux
Usually when you find a place with a strong focus on the bar, the food suffers. Not in this case. The food was really well prepared, and the service was good. This restaurant has a great vibe, and is very versatile - whether you're just meeting up with a few friends, or if you're planning a big night. Well worth a visit.
