Review Bocca - Cape Town Central

Simon Kamp
Maybe the best pizza dough crust I've had in CT. Excellent.
Tazlee Gess
Food was good but our waitress was pretty unfriendly. Perhaps had just been having a bad day but I saw many people commenting on it as it brings the mood down especially when there for a birthday party. Food was good. 2 of us shared the vegetarian Smoked Pizza, the Ital Chips (Potato Wedges) and the Ortofritto. They were all well seasoned. If you like quite a chewy pizza crust you'll enjoy their pizzas.

Definitely worth visiting. Their food flavours are quite different from most other CT restaurants, particularly for Italian cuisine, while they still offering dishes that are recognisable and enjoyable. Fresh food and good service. Small menu but something for everyone and an amazing wine list. My main complaint is that it is very noisy and can be difficult to hear fellow guests even at a small table of 4. A worthwhile visit but not my personal favourite.

Had dinner there last night. Really wanted to get a good feel for the place so we spent a long time here and ordered a bunch of dishes and everything was perfectly made and absolutely delicious. Anna was a great hostess. Portions are focussed on tapas style eating and we loved it. Will definitely be see’ing a lot more of me.

I always wanted to try the food at Bocca. Wow, delicious! We ordered a pizza to share for lunch and immediately ordered a second one. True Italian Pizza with a really good base and toppings to choose from. Highly recommend and definately going back to try the rest of the menu!!
Catherine Kannemeyer
The wine list here is excellent and I have always throughly enjoyed all the meals I have had here. Their pizza is excellent. I was sadly disappointed by the pannacotta I had when last I visited - it did not have the signature wobble pannacotta requires and the flavour was nothing to write home about. It is a shame because the experience was great otherwise.

Hands down the best pizza in Cape Town . Great sophisticated atmosphere with beautiful wines. Come here for an intimate dinner, or bring your parents and get wholly on wine & Italian food! Also the only pizza in CT that doesn't give me stomach ache, which is a massive plus. Can also highly recommend the roasted aubergine with goats pecorino "spoon." And - I don't think they've got it on the menu, but ask for the Chilitini (sweet but spicy martini). Absolutely delicious!
Jason Kretzmann
I love this place for an easy Italian meal. Start with a bowl of olives, share a pizza and try one of their slow roasted dishes (recommend the lamb). I'm getting hungry now even writing this review!

Lovely location on Bree Street. The chickpea salad is refreshing and the portion size was pretty large! My sister had the roast chicken panini which was delicious. Will definitely get the pizza next time because that looks amazing!

2018: I was not sure if to go here as it seemed like a pizza place and was next to our rented apartment. HOWEVER: Stunning and funny waitress - an explosion of my head flavours - great selection of beverages - quality is worth the price. Have your arm twisted - like we had :-) - to the chocolate dessert. WoW!

Delicious food. Great service. Warm and inviting atmosphere. Price of food is also reasonable and wine list is comprehensive. Pizzas are a great sharing option, as you can imagine!
Meegan Kieffer
Menu limited but pizza smelled delicious upon arrival. The pizza dough was delicious and soft, but the toppings on the pizzas were cold and lacked flavour. Hubby enjoyed the craft beer. Staff friendly and welcoming.

Actually we were heading for another restaurant, but when we passed Bocca we felt the good atmosphere and we stayed there.
The concept is very nice, with small portions which you can share. Food was great, we had the slow cooked beef, the chicken with battered asparagus and as starters prosciutto and salami.
The service was outstanding, very attentive!
Natalie
I found the service to be very friendly and the manager welcoming. I do, however, think that the new menu is overpriced and delivers disappointing food. R95 for a tapas portion of 5 small polpettes - which should be meatballs in sauce but is actually meat that is battered and deep fried - is exorbitant.
Anisa
Disappointed in the pizza. Base was burnt! Offered to make another but I was put off by the after taste in my mouth. Won’t be going back as the menu is also very limited.

So, I’m uploading this review in Jan 2019, but we went back in Dec of 2017. So this review is *technically* far too outdated to be relevant. But I will say this. Back then they had great, true Italian style pizza, and I’m sure it’s still great now.

I loved the interior and vibe of Bocca. The open kitchen and seating is masterfully done. It’s modern, yet intimate, kind of like their food: hearty Italian dishes inspired by modern dining.

Bocca is one of the best places in Cape Town where you can get true Napolitana style pizza.
Buon appetito!
Dean Erasmus
Service was sub par and the food was ridiculously over priced. Above all of that had the worst food poisoning of my life, been sick for two days. When we tried to contact the owner all we received was a bad attitude from the owner who tried to defect all accusations. Would never return and would never recommend.

Visited twice before and not once did it disappoint. Hands down some of the best pizza I've had in Cape Town.
Friendly staff.
Loved the fact that you can see them prepare the pizza.
Robyn Palmer
Definitely deserves its rating
Good food that you can taste is homemade! Lovely and attentive staff, and although quiet while we were there, had a warm atmosphere.
We ordered veg pizza, prawn pasta and a chicken panini, all very tasty!
Unfortunately no gluten free pizza option. Food tastes amazing. The music was just loud enough that we could enjoy a private conversation; I had romantic evening. Very elegant Italian restuarent. Clever menu to represent the different food portions.

I don't understand all the reviews that says the pizza is the best ever. I thought the pizza was just average.

The crust was somewhat thick and chewy and the flavours were rather bland.

I did however enjoy the arancini balls and the zucchini fries - both of which were perfectly fried and served with a delicious mustard and a creamy aioli.

Perhaps experience this place for yourself, but I won't be back in a hurry
Claudia Emanuel
Ambience and music is very pleasant. Staff are really friendly and if you come at 6pm when the kitchen opens, expect very fast service! Pizza base is one of the best I’ve had in Cape Town! Partners salad was average. Definitely a spot to consider for a first date over pizza and wine.
Morgan
Really good Neapolitan-style pizza 🍕 great wine selection and a very warm and cozy ambience. Perfect for sharing plates. Zucchini fries are a must!
Kashira Naidoo
I had the seafood pizza which was average. The food did take a while to arrive. Overall an okay experience - perhaps what would help customers is introducing customizable pizzas (a friend of mine requested feta, which was bought in a plate on the side when she would’ve preferred baked into the pizza).

Decided to come here for the pizza after reading all of the good reviews on Zomato. We initially sat downstairs but moved to the upstairs booth after birds from the street flew inside & were playing about in the rafters, the place was very quiet with only one other table of five.

We were attended to promptly by the manager working on his laptop upstairs & drinks came within 5 minutes. I ordered what I thought was a raspberry rooibos cocktail with archers, vodka and lemon juice (R60). It tasted very sweet upon arrival & definitely lacked the flavour of any lemon/vodka but I thought that it was just how it tasted, until I got the bill and saw that I was charged R35 for the drink. I assume that there is a non alcoholic version of the drink with the exact same name on the menu (I didn’t order “virgin”) so just be clear to clarify if you want a cocktail.

We ordered a Margherita R77 & The commissioner (Bacon/Avo/Feta) R133. This is authentic Italian pizza, rolled out by hand, so it comes in wonderfully not-so-round shapes. The Margherita was simple but incredibly tasty, while I found the other pizza to be a bit expensive for what you got, although the bacon chunks were quite big and had delicious crispy bits here and there. The crusts of the pizza had a great crispy yet chewy texture, and the complimentary (very minimal) Chilli oil was a great lubricant for this. We ordered a tomato, grana padano & olive salad as a side dish (R60). This comes with a variety of frisée lettuce (not stated on the menu) and can be dressed with the table balsamic and olive oil.

Waitress only came to check on us waaay after we had gotten our meals, so if there were any issues, we would’ve had to wait to address this. Luckily for us, there were none & we happily chewed away.

Service was friendly & extremely prompt by manager on duty, waitress was lacking a bit especially given that there were only two occupied tables in the entire restaurant. Cutlery was not 100% clean, but luckily they give you a pizza cutter with your meal so you can cut your own slices and avoid table cutlery if enjoy eating with your hands.

This has become my go-to place for great tasting pizza, but I might just order a beer or cool drink next time to avoid the cocktail dilemma again.

Edit: visited again for a quick bite before heading into town for the evening. Pizza was served within 10 minutes of ordering, great flavour and wonderfully chewy crust. The best pizza place I’ve come across.

Absolutely love Bocca, their pizzas are amazing!! Fast, delicious and very authentic. The ambience is also really great, perfect for a day date or even a evening date, top place to eat if you want to be in the CBD at night and want to layer your stomach before going out to party. I suggest you order the Pineapple mojito drink, can’t remember the name (sorry) but I’m sure the waiters will know what you’re talking about. Great taste and ‘lekker’
Nooru Harnekar
Having been to Italy, finding a real authentic pizza is hard to come by, until Bocca. The center was slightly wet, however, probably due to the use of fresh mozzarella. The zucchini fries are a must have!
Supervundu
Great genuine Italian pizza. Gnocchi was rad and the zucchini fries are a must. Excellent service, great midweek vibes. A bietjie duur, but totally worth it.
Leanne
I really enjoyed Bocca and would recommend it. Typical NY Pizza base was divine. Definitely keen to go back to explore the rest of the menu.

Get there early so that you don’t have to que for a table 🍕
Tsepang & Thapelo
Amazing tapas. Menu is comprised of mostly pizza so it’s a good place if you’re a pizza fan . I only had their tapas , very small but incredibly delicious.
Cyndi Sahara Satram
I absolutely love this place! The food is amazing especially the spoons. Really good food at reasonable prices, great service, and a great vibe.
Pepler La Cock
Best Pizza in CPT!!! Loved the base it's out of this world nice thin but still chewy texture! Would have given them 5 but they did not have Avo and Pizza must have Avo! Btw cocktail was also really good!

I had the absolute pleasure of eating at bocca for the first time this past Saturday. I was joining my friend for her farewell dinner. It was the perfect location as it's right in the center of town, and just a short walk or very short uber ride to join Cape Town's nightlife.

We had a cosy table above the kitchen, perfect to chat and reminisce with our gang of friends. I'd suggest this spot for a first date as you are welcomed by such a comfortable atmosphere. From the staff to the wine selection to the medley of bitings we ordered to share. Everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. I have had dreams about those arancini balls. 😁

I strongly recommend eating at bocca while in the CBD. It's truly incredible and what I would consider to be a home run meal out.

What an amazing experience, I’ve been here twice now and Wow words can’t describe how amazing my meal was here ! The service is amazing and the food comes very quickly which is so nice especially when you are starving! Love the area and how the restaurant looks
Sam Corcoran
A really cozy date nigh location offering authentic Italian meals. I asked to have the pasta but to leave out the lamb (making it vegan) and they even reduced the price for me. Wonderful food, wine, service and ambiance.
Marion Knoetze
Crappy service. Waitress with attitude problem. Food was okay. A lot of the items on the menu they could not serve. And did not have any cocktails. Won't be back.
Stiaan Jordaan
Right, where to start.

I made a booking via telephone. My name and number was taken. But when I got there I was told (with attitude) that Bocca does not do reservations.

Out waitress - some rude woman - decided to not bring us menues for a good 20 minutes. After deciding on a delicious cocktail - we were told they are not serving cocktails today. No problem. A cider it is.

Menu looks amazing and was looking forward to having the gnocchi. Guess what. No gnocchi.

First impressions last. This place will not be seeing me again. And I would advise anyone to go anywhere else. Frankly, KFC would be a better option.
Sarah Mcghie
I have been lucky enough to have dined here twice for dinner! Both times my food and service was fantastic! I've tasted the Caesar salad, hake and spinach risotto and the sticky chili ribs! All absolutely delicious and arrived at our table quickly! I can't eat gluten, but their pizzas look unbelievable and I am envious of people who are eating them! The blueberry and cinnamon g&t is out of this world! Love the atmosphere here and the intimate vibe! Will be back again soon!

Discovered by accident but what a happy accident it was. Adored the small plates, especially the arancini and the tempura zucchini. Yum yum yum.
Sinako Cetyiwe
I had the lamb chops with a side of polenta and it was delicious and full of flavor. Great restaurant for a light meal and drinks. Great tapas as well. Usually has some entertainment especially on weekends. Location is perfect in the city center. We had a great friendly waitress who attended to all our needs. Would recommend.
Mose Shirley Khubedu
I'm not generally a fan of pizza but I quite enjoyed theirs although if I am to critique it, I might add that the base has a bit too much salt for my liking... My friend ordered one of their risottos, which she found to be delicious!

The service was top notch! Our waiter was amazing and attentive without being in-your-face.

The place itself, chic and trendy as it was, had a lovely intimate feel to it which made for a memorable evening!
I'll definitely be back for more!
Atara Jaffe
This place has the best pizza in Cape Town in my opinion. I just like the margarita pizza it's simple and full of flavor. The crust is a little bouncier then are usually like but it's a really great thick crust pizza
The Chowing Bunnies
Bocca on Bree Street is a fantastic restaurant.

Sit out on the balcony with a G&T (many gins on offer) and soak up the vibey atmosphere of Bree street.

There are some great plates to share on offer at Bocca, mainly Italian inspired. We shared the seared tuna and the fillet.

I was highly impressed by the food, service and vibe of this restaurant and would definitely go back. It's not cheap though.

Zucchini fries = greasy but good 🍟
Arancini balls = amazingly good 👌🏽👑💓
Soft polenta = smooth, silky comfort food 😋
Di Mare pizza = great base, not too thick, topping quite tasty 👍🏽🍕
Chocolate dessert jar - not blown away, but ate this course in a hurry so couldn't really savour it. Chocolate flavor could be dialled up? 🍫
Service - friendly waitress, knowledgeable about the menu.
Atmosphere - chilled, not too crazy for lunch hour, which was a relief given that one cannot reserve a table. 🍽
Great lunch overall - I'll be back 😉
Rob Mulholland
Pizza is one of the most subjective foods in my opinion, but for me Bocca offer the most authentic and delicious pizzas in CT. The plain margarita with a little fresh chili is my choice every time!

Some work colleagues and I decided to opt for an early and informal get together after work on Friday afternoon.

Trendy, minimalistic, industrial like setting which is easy on the eye. But why you really want to go to Bocca is their absolutely fabulous crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside pizza's. True Neapolitan style.

I had the Di Mare all on my own and normally I have left overs but before I knew it...boom boom boom...pizza all up with no help from anyone else 😄.

Also, if you do find yourself at Bocca do yourself a favour...please order the Zucchini fries. After the first bite....I was like hello there, can I take you home with me.....YUM....fabulous!!!!!

Only gripe....service at Bocca is shoddy and unfriendly. So really hope they can pull up their socks in that regard.
Jess Abrams
Bocca is one of those restaurants that have consistently served quality food every time I visit.
They do not take bookings which seems to work out well since I've never been turned away yet they're never empty.

I recommend the pizzas (they are thick topped with the real deal mozzarella, and it shows). The drinks are good, the deserts are weird, the coffee is fantastic.
Also, the professional staff are great 👌
Foodboo_cpt
On our visit to Bocca we sat in a cute spot upstairs which was dimly lit and cosy. We ordered a few items off the menu to share. To start of with we had the Zucchini fries with herb mayonaisse and crispy pork belly ribs with chili glaze and basil. The Zucchini fries were to die for and are a must try. The ribs however were over cooked and dry. They also lacked the chilli flavour as described by the menu. For mains we ordered the house-made Rigatoni with lamb meatballs, sugo and parmesan. The lamb balls were succulent, well flavored, cooked to perfection and the pasta was al dente. This dish left nothing to complain about. The service was good as well.
Simone Naicker
I was gonna have my birthday dinner here but due to circumstances was unable to. Even though they don't generally take reservations the manager was so helpful and nice and was going to help me out. Tried it 2 weeks later when I returned to CPT and was not disappointed with the food at all. The menu is not big - this makes selecting something very easy. I just wish they had more options that are "pork free". Loves the gin selection.
Pia Harris
I was not a pizza person until I ate Bocca's pizza. There is something so delicious about the fresh, chewy bases of the Neapolitan style pizza. The simpler the better, my favorite is the Margarita.

Definitely worth giving it a bash.

Bocca has been relaunched with new owner and chef Guido. He’s a lovely and knowledgeable guy coming from Italy with real passion for food. We tried a few dishes including a wood oven pizza and delicious truffle fries. Everything was enjoyable and surely we’ll be back to try more.

On the corner of Bree and Wales street is where you can find an Italian restaurant called Bocca. The ambience is laid-back with a contemporary modern look and feel of glass and wood interiors.

From the menu you can expect tapas in a variety of sizes. From bowls of goodness, snacks to share to big plates, sides and desserts for a little bit of sweetness. We shared the Aranchini with aioli. Coated in golden crumb with a treasure of gooey mozzarella and rice inside which was delicious. The aioli was smooth and tasty.

You can opt for a pizza without a tomato base or with a tomato base. For people like me who do like a crispy thin base pizza, the Neopolitan style pizza might be a bit difficult to get used to. The base is soft, elastic and charred. Once the toppings are placed on top it becomes difficult to pick up a slice and eat it with your hand as the base becomes too soft.

Nonetheless, the Bandera pizza I opted for was delicious in spice with a chilli tomato base, mozzarella, chorizo, roasted red pepper and red onion. The Porky's Revenge pizza was flavoursome with mozzarella, ricotta, nduja (spicy pork salumi), chilli, spiced pork belly and baby spinach. You also get to cut your own pizza the way you prefer.

Our special friends around the table ordered the Rigatoni with lamb meatballs and parmesan. The sugo was slightly underseasoned. The flatbread was like soft pillows of clouds. The Caesar salad was appetising and refreshing.

Bocca does not take reservations, so it’s best to come earlier as it gets busy.
Located on a corner of Bree and Wale streets in a 2 storey space is this attractive Italian restaurant. The pizza preparation area and wood fired oven take centre stage with small tables surrounding it as well as tables on the deck and more private dining areas upstairs. Tables are tucked in close together to maximise use of the space.

The menu is interesting, with quite a few small starter/spoon dishes served tapas style. The waitress explained that the dishes are quite small. For main courses there are pizzas, pastas and a few speciality dishes. The dishes are quite unusual and by no means "the run of the mill." Think gnocchi, truffles, saltana & caper puree, grilled artichokes, kimchi, nduja, vanilla parsnip puree and sugo to name a few.

We shared the aranchini with aioli which were delicious and cooked to perfection. We had the flat bread which was pillowy and puffy. The Caesar salad was good but lacked hard boiled eggs. Our table had three pizzas which arrive uncut do you can slice your own shapes and sizes. Their pizzas are traditional Neopolitan which means they are soft, elastic, tender, fragrant and charred. Quite different and takes a bit of getting used to. I had the rigatoni with lamb meatballs. The lamb was flavours but the tomato sauce was unseasoned and bland.

We were too full for dessert but will be back to try their pannacotta, dark chocolate salami and amaretto and passion fruit zabaione with pears and honeycomb. Yum!

We had a lovely evening, chatting and sipping our chilled drinks, laughing with great friends who always make for such great dinner mates!

BigJoe Sharese Hunt Glen Hunt

Pizza heaven. Possibly the best pizza in all of Cape Town. Those basic reviewers moaning that the pizzas are "too thick" or "doughy" need to have their heads checked, ignore them. Bocca is damn close to perfection. Soft, elastic, fragrant and bursting with flavour. Rustic pizzas, finest ingredients, neopolitan style. Compliments to the chef, I don't often get excited about pizza anymore these days.
Mikaela
Bocca has a really cool atmosphere. They offer both pizza's and tapas - with a wide variety of drinks. The arancini and zucchini fries were by far the best of the tapas! I also had a pizza which was quite disappointing (the base was too doughy and tasted undercooked), especially considering that Bocca's menu comprises mainly of pizza.
Guy Blackhurst
Bocca is not your typical pizzeria. The pizza bases are thick and elastic, and the toppings are mostly quite rich and heavy. I've never left feeling hungry. There is a busy yet relaxed atmosphere to the place. Service was great and all staff were attentive and friendly.
Jenna Rodd
I have been here three times for pizza and personally find the bases are too thick for my preference. That being said, they are tasty and the restaurant has a lovely modern feel and a great ambience.
Robin Mahlangu
Lovely place with a lovely aesthetic. I really enjoyed the fact that I could see my pizza being made for me as they have an open layout to the food prep area. Food was amazing, there's seating upstairs too ample space to enjoy good food with a good crowd.
Kriyanka Naidoo
Really love this chic Bree street bistro with it's relaxed atmosphere and it's simplistic approach to good food.
The menu has something for everyone and I would definitely recommend trying their pizzas. The salmon trout was also delicious and perfectly pink and well seasoned.
The service was great but the only thing I would want to change is to allow for reservations of tables as it can get quick busy over the weekend.
Epikoros
Meatballs are very nice. Arancini worth a nibble as are the fried zucchini.

Better to stick to the small plates they offer. Pizzas are very thin based and are tasty.
Savanna Clarke
I decided to give this restaurant another chance because my previous experience was a bit of a blur. I still didn't like it. The pizza is just too thick for my liking, and quite bland. And too expensive. Seriously windy on the balcony, but that's not the restaurants fault obviously. The service wasn't great, and the staff seemed upset with life which is never cool. I won't be giving it another chance 🙅
Ilyaas A. Mayet
I have returned to Bocca after their reopening and was pleasantly surprised. We shared the brisket with salsa verde which was good but the meat a little tough. The pizza is nice and small and I would suggest sharing a few options between people. We also had the potato wedges which are nice and have Parmesan shavings on top. The non alcoholic cocktails are a waste of time if you don’t drink.

The service is good and the staff is friendly. I would recommend trying this place out for a night out with friends. Be sure to book ahead of time
Zakiyah
We arrived at Bocca at 9:40 PM (closed at 10 PM) and it was still absolutely packed. They gave us the only table available even though the kitchen was closing in 20 minutes. The vibe is upbeat and trendy, very enjoyable.

We ordered:
Ricotta and lemon gnocchi, truffle, exotic mushrooms and fried quail eggs.
Roasted aubergine with goats pecorino, smoked chilli oil and basil (AMAZING)
Arancini with aioli
Zucchini fries with herb mayo
Duck pops with pickled beetroot, sultana and caper purée
Grilled artichokes with goats cheese, pine nuts, celery and smoked chilli
Mozza pizza

Our waitress said: wow it's a lot of food haha and we polished all of it between my boyfriend and myself.

We finished off with the dark chocolate, pistachio, candied ginger and cranberry salami. Definitely needed after all that rich food.

We also enjoyed the raspberry basil mule. I'll definitely be trying their other cocktails.

If I had to let go of one thing it would be the artichokes. They weren't bad but everything else was just way too good. Great service, great ambience, great Italian food. What a treat 🍴.
Richard Bower
After trying a couple different pics spots in and around Cape Town, I have to say Bocca is one of my favorite. The restaurant is a vibe and has been busy both times that I have been there.

You can't make a booking so you just walk in and cross fingers that you can get your hands on one of their delicious pizzas. Oh the zucchini fries are also great!
Sumendra Chetty
Bocca is always quite busy, especially because this charming restaurant is situated in sort after Bree street. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon it (literally because it's that windy in Cape Town) and I'm so glad we took the chance! I love the way the menu is set out- simply broken up into method of eating (finger food versus with spoons versus big plates!) we tried the artichoke salad as well as the arancini as starters. Absolutely divine! The flavours were delicate and worked well with our choice of wine- The Vondeling Sav Blanc. For a main we chose to share the home made bucatini with prawns. So incredible! It's like definitely worth the pasta cheat! We will return to try out more of this extensive menu!

The buzz and energy of the city infiltrate this gorgeous little gem, and makes you feel that you are seated in some Soho street in New York. The food has an Italian influence, however there is no pretension to be an Italian restaurant. They have invented their own style, and revisited many classical dishes. The Arancini were so close to Sicilian original, however Bocca added aioli which originates from South of France, completing this dish. Now the focal point of the restaurant is the oven, we naturally had to try the pizza. The dough is different, referencing between an Indian nan,and an American New York style pizza dough. The ingredients were fresh, and instead of the classical abundance of mozzarella, a chili aioli was drizzled. 10/10.
Adeline Gail Clayton
This place is just perfection- from the decor to the ambience to the service and especially the food! Their pizzas are delicious and they have a great variety of wine and other beverages on their menu! One definitely needs to come here for after work vibes or simply when in the famous Bree street!
Rachel
I went to Bocca while on diet (no carbs allowed) and had the aubergine starter, the artichoke starter and the salmon main - yes, I was starving.

It was DIVINE. I'm always hesitant to order anything other than pizza at places that are known for pizza but my word last night was one of my best food nights in Cape Town.

Can't recommend Bocca enough - and really well priced!
Jeff Fernandes
Very Modern Setup and vibey feel to the place. We were seated in the upstairs area with a view of the Chefs making the pizza . Very authentic and fantastic tasting pizzas . Bianca and Primavera for the win .The starters were also great , the pork belly ribs , Lamb Meatballs and Zucchini and commend the waitress for her excellent service . We will definitely be back again .

Friday at lunch hour, they seemed quiet from the outside but they have seating upstairs which was almost full. The Bree Street buzz definitely carries into the restaurant. The service was quick and friendly. My partner and I both had cappuccinos and shared the Mozza pizza. It's a very tasty vegetarian pizza that I'd definitely recommend. Just remember to ask them to pre-slice your pizza!
Kieran Pearce
If you are looking for pizza then I would go here. It feels like I'm eating a real Italian styled pizza from its home in Naples. Soft bases, a tomato base that tells a story and just the right amount of cheese. I had a Margarita pizza and it was the best.
Lame [Lah-meeh]
Have to say, didn't really know what to expect when going to this restaurant but found myself pleasantly surprised. They have very tasty pizza and their cocktails are the bomb dot com. The pork belly ribs were quite average, nothing to brag about really, but overall was a nice experience. Nothing that really makes it stand out but I enjoyed the food.
Lesley Street
To start the wine list was comprehensive, the food was amazing! The sautéed squid was the best I have ever had, the flavours were delicate and complimented the squid perfectly. The star of the show was the amaretto, passion fruit zabionne was the BEST dessert I have ever had, you absolutely cannot leave without trying it! We ended up ordering another one! The wait staff are knowledgeable and friendly. It is an absolute must if you are in the area!
Jayshall Vassen
Bocca is an absolute must for pizza. The restaurant is located in the middle of bree street and has a great atmosphere.

I usually have the mozza which has goats cheese and caramelised onions and it is divine. I've heard that the tapas is also a must and will definitely be back to try it out.
Annemarie Roodbol
It was my first time at Bocca and I did not like the food and I feel they are overpriced. I ordered the Porky's Revenge pizza which was so spicy that I was unable to really taste the actual food. Why not just serve some chilly on the side for those who prefer food that hot? Perhaps there was a slip of the wrist with the chilly in the kitchen that evening.... I also thought the dough of the pizza was weird. I have just come back from Italy and nowhere did I have this kind of pizza or this hot. However, my dinner companion loved her food, she loves spicy and even asked for extra chilly. The place is obviously very popular and was packed while the service was very friendly. For delicious, reasonably priced pizza I will rather go back to my local at Diva's on Buitenkant - pity they are closed on a Monday evening.
Kate Mulholland
Incredible pizza. I had the Margherita - done in the true Naples style, it boasts a fresh juicy tomato base, rather than a paste, making it all the more delicious. Makes me feel like I'm in a small family owned and run pizzeria in Italy:)
Sj
Ambiance is cool food a bit disappointing. Not sure I'll be back... for an Italian restaurant pasta was not tasty at all ( and this is the rest of my sentence that fills up the extra 140 characters)
Aqeelah Hassim
Being a big Bree Street and pizza fan I have been wanting to try Bocca for quite some time now. It doesn't look like much initially but the intimate upstairs section is a hidden gem! The restaurant has a great vibe and my group of friends and I saw a lot of familiar faces for an ordinary Tuesday night. I would have been more adventurous with my pizza choice if they had any chicken or beef options? Found it strange that almost every pizza had pork. The base and crust of their pizza is however insanely good and I would definitely go back 🍕

On Friday night, we were driving through the CBD and decided to try out Bocca. We had heard great reviews from friends and we are always keen on Italian food. Little did we know that they don't take reservations but were lucky enough to get a table. From the start, service was accommodating and attentive and our waitress, Zizi, was especially friendly. To eat, Dario ordered the 400g grass fed sirloin in Salsa Verde and I ordered the The Commercial pizza, thin base with bacon, Avo and feta. Zizi did say the Steak would take about 15/20min and then recommended we try the zucchini fries with herb mayo in the mean time. What a great recommendation! They were yummy! Dario said his steak was filling and tasty and my pizza was crispy, light yet filling. We were so impressed by the accommodating service we received and will definitely be returning!

Best pizza i have personally had in my life and it took about 10 min for it to arrive after ordering. The restaurant has a unique vibe and layout and the service was also very good. Wil definitely go again.

My parents took the family out to Bocca to celebrate my boyfriend's graduation and the incredible food, service and atmosphere made the night unforgettable. For starters we ordered everything off of the Fingers menu (we ordered double of the duck pops and the pork belly ribs which are delicious). The pizza's are quite filling as the bases are thick -but also really delicious. We ended off the night with espressos, dessert jars and the chocolate salami. I'm so impressed with this place.

I really enjoyed Bocca. The service was great. The layout makes for a very trendy and bustling atmosphere. The zucchini fries were fabulous! I would go back just to eat those for starters, mains and dessert! We shared the duck pops which were also delish. The pizza was slightly disappointing with the Gorgonzola overpowering the flavours of the salami and the olives.
A definite recommendation for a girls night out!

The best place for pizza, I've never had such great pizza in my life 👍🏾👍🏾 and the service is excellent. If you in Cape Town please pop in at bocca

I really love the set up of Bocca. We were seated upstairs, looking over the kitchen, watching all the pizzas being made. I had the Bandera without Chorizo and my friend had the Di Mara. We both found that the pizza bases were very thick and chewy and as a result, my pizza lacked flavor. The pizzas were however very filling.

I didn't read through the desserts properly and just saw "dessert jars", so I ordered the Hazelnut and Cranberry Biscotti thinking that it would be a biscuit dessert, not a jar of biscuits. I should have however guessed when the waiter asked me if I wanted some coffee as well. That was slightly disappointing. The service was very friendly.

Great food and atmosphere. Had a mix of starters and big plates. Everyone extremely happy with their choices. Will definitely recommend it to friends.

Mmmm delicious pizza, made in lightning quick time in their 10 00041295 degree oven, no really. Great service and a cool menu with some tapas options and bigger meals, I'm a sucker for snacking. The gnocchi was not quite what I was expecting to be honest, didn't love it, but the rissotto balls and pizza was Mmmm.

If you're a lover of Italian then Bocca is worth the try. Staff are really friendly and willing to help you with any menu questions. They have a great upstairs area which is intimate and a warm atmosphere. Besides the venue, the food is absolutely superb. The pizza was phenomenal. Flavours really contemplated each other well. The base is thin but not too crispy and cooked to perfection. Whatever these guys are doing they need to keep it up.

Delightfully pleasant staff and very affordable prices. The fruti di marre pizza was soft, packed with fresh juicy squids and prawns and transported us to seventh heaven with every bite! And we say this as people who are not usually too fond of pizza, so it is definitely a must-try!

The Italian-Asian Lady Zaza pizza is just plain WOW, fusion cuisine at its best. Imagine that: kimchi on a flatbread! I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.

EDIT: Second time at Bocca and I’m updating my rating from 4.5 to 5. I’ve just come back from Italy and the food I had tonight was as good as anything I ate over there.

i did not like it at all, i had the seafood pizza but it had no cheese on and did nit have a bite to it all, the chips weren't potato chips it was another deep fried vegetable. we were placed in front of the door on a cold night too. overall it was not a pleasant night.

One of the best pizzas in Town. Chewy base that only goes in the pizza oven for 90 seconds. Whatever the way - it works 😝

I enjoyed the ambience and the service was also good.

The wine selection is a bit pricey though

Would go back to try the tapas but the pizzas are so good it will be hard not to order one. Mine was topped with roasted peppers and chorizo. Winning

The staff are amazing, always there where you need them. The food is also amazing, one thing that truly stands out is the zucchini fries. Our usual stop before hitting the town for some drinks at one of the local bars close by.

Slick contemporary ITALIAN in trendy Bree street. Ideal for ordering a few tapas style dishes that you can share with a few friends. Reasonably priced and good friendly staff who make you feel totally at home.

The first time I tried to have lunch here was rather unpleasant (service wasn't great).-Went back regardsless and it was better. The food was nice (had the veggie panino).

Bocca was the backup option for dinner last night and, on the whole, it was a solid choice. The service was attentive and prompt (they were quiet though) and the food was decent enough. I really enjoyed my pizza, but was slightly underwhelmed by the pork belly that my friend had - it was decent, but not as good as I'd heard and certainly not a "destination" dish. Value for money was decent given that it's the CBD. I would recommend Bocca as a solid choice and I'd be okay with eating there again, but if you're looking for something special I don't think this is it.

The food was absolutely amazing! The zucchini fries are a must! You can't make a reservation so I would suggest getting there earlier but there's a lovely bar to have a drink while waiting 👌

Good Napoli pizza in Bree Street. The pizzas are based on the pizzas sold in Naples. The bases are a lot thicker than the normal standard pizzas sold everywhere else and some people might be put off my the thick bases. Their olives were not the greatest, I've had much better. They have a good selection of wines and the ambiance is good

Dear Bocca,

You've made me realize cutting pizzas ain't easy. I now feel guilty for all the times I complained about how poorly cut my pizzas were. Thanks for the enlightenment. Oh. And. The. Tasty. Pizza.

Sean

Love this place ! The menu is great for sharing. The pizza was above average but the cocktails were amazing! Especially the Raspberry one. ( can't remember the name) The service is excellent & the staff so friendly. One of the few places I will return to again!

The lights and set up drew us away from our original dinner plans last night, such a cool vibe, even from the outside. Greeted by a super friendly hostess who luckily had a spare table available for us, we soon discovered why the restaurant was fully booked. With a pizza oven imported from Italy, we enjoyed pizza bases so light and crispy and the amazing squid starter as mains, very generous portion, regardless. Planning the next trip there already :)

I'm usually more into authentic looking places, but this place is more than it seems. Quick service, especially for CPT. Delicious pizza. No fuss.

We'd hearing such good things about this establishment so my partner and I decided to try it.

After a seriously oily zucchini chip starter, we looked forward to our "authentic Neopolitan" pizza experience.... half an hour later they arrived (zero apologies made just btw).

I'll admit that the pizze we were presented with certainly LOOKED like their traditional Neopolitan counterparts but really that's where the similarities stopped.

Rubbery dough, and "mozzarella" of questionable quality and origin saw my Margherita as average at best, and the pork on my partner's "Porky's Revenge" (really?) was definitely past its sell-by.

Terrible experience, won't be returning any time soon.

Underwhelming food that does not begin to live up to the descriptions on the menu. I found it over priced and pretentious. Pork belly without the crackling is a disappointment. The desserts were also very disappointing. Service was fair but not fantastic. Inexperienced and poor menu knowledge.

Located on a trendy strip on Bree Street, the space has a good feel to it and the staff is at attentive and friendly. We had small plates to share, while sitting on the balcony. The aubergine with pecorino was a highlight and the arrancini was great. The zucchini fries were rather soggy and oily unfortunately. Bianca Capazorio

Such an awesome spot. Whether you want tapas or mains it won't disappoint. The menu is large and their options are fantastic. The interior is light wood, modern and beautiful. The food is fantastic and service is great

My wife and I both had pizzas. They were absolutely delicious. Light and crispy with an excellent Napoletana base. Will definitely be back to try some of the other options on the menu.

Great location! Always buzzing and great place to get drinks with a friend. I'm not a great pizza fan but there's pizzas are tasty! Nice variety of food including good hake. Good service.

Popped by for a quick bite. We had about 3 different people serving us, which annoys me a bit, because you don't know who is actually your waitress and who to ask if you need something. My friend and I both had the Panino sandwich with roasted chicken, mustard mayo, avocado, gruyere and rocket. The sandwich itself was big, but filling could have been a bit more. Not bad, but also not great.

Really enjoyable lunch spot in summer!

I loved the pizza style sandwiches, it was extremely tasty and even bigger enough to share. The ingredients are also super good quality. I liked that they didn't skimp on the Avo.

The service is quite slow, we had to repeat ourselves 3x before they would actually act on things.

After a pretty horrific attempted dinner at Lefty's we resorted to Bocca, looking for good service, food and a clean chair to sit on (it's the simple things that please us). As always, we were not disappointed.
Spectacular pizza. I can't bring myself to order anything other than the Margerita, simply because it's so simple and delicious. I don't want to spoil it with anything. Not even prosciutto.
Thanks for saving a pretty average evening!
