What a lovely place. We got such a warm welcome from our waitress.
She answered all our questions regarding the menu, such a person's person.
Food - absolutely Divine!!
If you like Greek food, this is the place to go.
Love this place! Always amazing food and friendly service! Can't wait for them to reopen after the fire!
Extraordinary food variations of the open kitchen, even for experienced hipster kitchen hopper. Heartwarming service included :)
The best dine I've experienced in the latest time.

Love this place! The aubergine pita is by far the best (perhaps because I always order it)!!!! :) people are awesome and the atmosphere is great!
Sat 19/09/2015 . The best, mouth watering food from beginning to end! I will for sure be back for more! Absolute hidden gem in town, with plenty parking.
Really great food & good service! I had the best moussaka there last night! 🙌 can't wait to go back!

One of my favourites on Dunkley Square. It is a Greek Restuarant with hip vibe, service and food is excellent.
Had a fantastic dinner celebrating a friends birthday. Very generous portions and great hosts.
Delicious food and warm, friendly service. A fantastic choice for a laid back Friday lunch in Cape Town.

Best roast lamb I've had yet! And such a great vibe and location. Very friendly staff who can actually recommend what you should order :)
Fantastic food and beautiful atmosphere
Their food is out of this world delicious, the atmosphere is super cosy & the service is welcoming & friendly. Maria’s is perfect for a romantic date - you can share their mouth-watering, yummy tapas together :-)!!
What a brilliant Greek restaurant
Great ambiance Understated decor but amazing tapas- some of the best I’ve ever enjoyed
We ordered a selection of tapas. Obviously newly prepared it was delicious and filling
The Kataifi was a winner - phyllo pastry topped with creamy Greek custard A winner indeed
Service was friendly professional
Good discovery
Favourite restaurant to go for especially since it’s halaal friendly and excellent food. The male waiter (can’t remember his name) did a very excellent job for us everytime I visit. The maitre de could service a bit better but thankful the good waiters and food make up for it!
Just had dinner at this gardens gem. As always food was devine and the atmosphere under the trees was amazing with smiling friendly waitresses and a happy summer vibe. Thankyou Dominique for your special attention and care, and heaven knows how you remembered what we like a year and a half later!!! See you a lot sooner this time.
I really felt like Greek food so used the Zomato app to search for a place in Cape Town. Maria’s was brilliant just what I needed healthy fresh food which were flavorful. Papi was an attentive waiter and his suggestions helpful. We shared the vegetarian platter and added a starter portion of calamari and falafel. Everything was delicious although the falafel had a bit more cumin than I would’ve liked. Sitting outside on the square reminded me of being in Greece. Will try and go back before the end of the holiday
Amazing evening at Maria’s. Divine food and lovely setting, we got a number of starters to share and they were all equally delicious. Favorites were the spanakopita and the halloumi (best I’ve ever had I’d say!)
What an amazing restaurant. I will go back over and over. Sitting outside underneath the trees amongst old building and small narrow streets, it feels like you’re in Europe.
And the food was really fantastic - so tasty. I had the Yiouvetsi Lamb and also tasted the class Deep Fries Hake. Both dishes were tender and full of flavours.
Truly amazing and see how was very friendly and helpful!
I love sitting outside at Maria’s on warm sunny days.
All of the food here is just delicious, from the mezze to the lunch special and everything in between. The coffee is incredible too.
The staff are friendly and super efficient. The manager knows everything there is to know about wine and going there is an all-round great experience.
Try the calamari 😍
Went to Maria’s for dinner last night and I think it is quite a gem. Hidden away in the Gardens area. Downside, parking is a bit of an issue.
It is quite popular, so it is advisable to book.
Welcome was good and was shown to the table. Ordered a vegetarian platter with some extra chicken and meatballs. Enjoyed the greek cuisine flavour of all items on the platter. Ambience - very good.
Will definitely go back! (Pity I didn’t take photos)
Great vibe, very cosy!! The most incredible spanakopita I’ve EVER had in my life... the Lamb Maria’s was underwhelming but the lamb with orzo noodles and calamari was sooooo delicious. Great wine list as well. Will be back to try the rest of the menu
Such a lovely experience.
Maria's is very cosy, there is a downstairs and upstairs. We were lucky to get a table by just walking in, but I'd recommend a reservation.
The staff was really friendly and nice. The service was good.
I had the chickpea pasta and my friend had the lamb pita. For dessert we shared the kataifi which was devine. Such an amazing texture.
The meze plates looked very delicious, will definitely be back to try those. There is a vegan and a vegetarian platter.
definitely one of my go-to restaurants. delish calamari and chips and mezze! nice energy and vibe. cosy in winter and the perfect alfresco dining place in summer 🙌🏼
Greek food at its best.
Such a beautiful setting in the heart of Cape Town, this restaurant really feels like you're in a European city.
Don't go here if you don't like to share.
Update: Maria’s is finally open! Owing to their kitchen burning down some time ago, they’ve been closed for a few months to renovate.
It was a fabulous sunny winters day, and an outside table at Maria’s savoring a variety of mezes with a glass of Chardonnay Pinot Noir sounded amazing! And that’s precisely what I did. Ordered Mujver (deep fried feta and courgette balls), hummus with warm pita bread, rosemary handcut chips and grilled calamari. It came with homemade chili oil, mayo and tomato sauce as the complimentary condiments.
The calamari was too charred for my liking and the chips lacked the rosemary flavour - which was weird because I could spot the rosemary bits on the chips. But the mujver was so good! And the hummus and pita were as yummy as I remembered it to be from the last time I was here.
Love love the venue and the service was superb! Next time I’m here, I’ll definitely need to try their signature lamb main.
Review 1: Had the vegan platter and my favourite item was the dolmathes. The hummus was also really good. I wasn't a fan of the deep fried aubergine though. Definitely one of the better Greek places around!
Maria's is my first choice for Greek food in Cape Town, and is an overall favourite for a quality meal in a cosy setting. I can recommend the chicken souvlaki and lamb, while my wife swears by the grilled calamari. The wine list is short but well put together, with some lesser known wineries getting exposure. The service has always been efficient and friendly.
Food: We ordered a few mezzes which came all on one board. This I found great as it created a very interactive eating environment. With that being said the food was traditional Greek food, but there was nothing special about it. We ordered the baklava for dessert which nearly broke my teeth. It tasted old to me. It wasn't bad to the point where I wouldn't go back but don't think I'm going to remembering this place on my death bed.
Service: I found the service to be very below average. The waiters were having lunch at the table next to us and we had to wait on them to finish up before being serviced. The restaurant was empty and because of that we were neglected.
Atmosphere: The restaurant is situated in a very quant square in gardens which makes sitting outside very pleasant. The inside of the restaurant is small and rustic, with pleasant lighting through big windows.
Overall I expected more from this place. The meal was nice but the overall experience was dampened by the service. I would go back based on convenience and for some of the food, but at the end of the day it was middle of the range.
A great lunch at Maria's today!
I had the vegan platter for 1 (R92) which had deep fried aubergines and zucchini, hummus, olives, an aubergine dip and garlic pita. The menu said "dolmathes", but there was only one so that was a bit disappointing. There were also very few olives. Other than those slight issues, it was a great platter that I'd order again.
My mom had the calamari salad which she really loved! The portion was very generous.
The restaurant has a fantastic setting and it was lovely to be able to sit out in the courtyard on such a sunny day.
I have never been a big fan of Greek food but this place definitely changed my mind. As you walk in the smell is just amazing, calamari filling the air. The staff are great and the vibe of the restaurant is amazing, cozy and warm. I had some lamb and it was like butter. Opa! Go give it a go.
I've been here twice and the courtyard atmosphere is really lovely. The meze is delicious and very authentic. However, I find the main courses that I've tried quite underwhelming and not as tasty as the meze, so will stick to the latter next time I visit. Good for an authentic Greek experience!

I had this little spot on my list since December so with my birthday i had one place in mind... I made sure to book ahead because finding a table here will be like looking for a diamant on the beach. The weather was perfect so sitting outside under the trees, covered in fairy lights... what a way to celebrate... the food was "greek" meaning big plates of food but wholesome and nice to have something different and made by recipes that was created so many years ago. Some people may think that the staff is rude... hello they are greek... 😄 just relax and have fun. We ended up last of couse and a round of coffee was filling the big table and what a great cup of coffee. Was so nice to see that this little place have so much caracter and looking inside, there was the manager cashing up, having a coffee with her staff and the dog guarding the door for any unwanted guests... the old school way... well done on keeping things so real and we def experience a little piece of Greece😘
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town. The grilled calamari main is an absolute must - such a pick-me-up. Love this restaurant to bits, from the decor, to the music to the quality cuisine. Consider me a loyal customer!
Rustic, dimly lit setting...awesome service and really tasty food. We were given a quaint table under the trees and fairy lights, which truly set the mood for the evening. The service was so efficient and accommodating from the get-go, and the recommendations we received were on point. I opted for the starter mussels as well as the patagonian grilled calamari. Both were so well prepared and tasty, and the starter portions are more than suffice. I have nothing negative to say about Maria's...only that I would've liked a bigger Rosé and MCC option. My friends and I were so impressed and can't wait to return.
What a cute little gem this restaurant is! Not so many sittings but perfect for the purpose, a very familiar and intimate atmosphere . Their greek food also give justice to the tradition, and you can trust the waiter will give you good advices if you never had greek before. Not that you can go wrong with anything you'll order. We where a table of 5 each with a different starter and main. We tasted each other dish and they were all full of flavour. The setting on Dunkly square is also very pretty and welcoming for a bice sunny day lunch.
Had the meze platter at Maria's. Delicious and authentic flavours. The atmosphere and outdoor seating is fantastic. For dessert we shared the ravani and kataifi, both were fabulous. The ravani was especially good with a balance of sweet and tangy flavours.
Fantastic to sit outside on a warm summers night. Friendly waiters and good service. Vegetable platter for 2 was so yummy. Would love to try the rest of the menu.
Our table was unfortunately not ready by the time we got there, even though we had reserved it.
We ordered the vegetarian platter for two for a starter. For main I had Lamb Maria's which is their signature dish. The food was so flavorful, delicious and the portions are great.
The wait for the food was a little too long but the good company, setting of the restaurant and amazing food made up for that.
Maria's has to be my all time favourite Greek restaurant in Cape Town. You feel like you're sitting in Europe amidst the trees and fairy lights. As for their food, the calamari salad and range of pitas are absolutely incredible, while their vegan platter is sure to delight. I always go for hummus, pita and dolmades too, which make for the perfect starter. The service is fantastic, and it's always a great experience!
I have had the Yiouvetsi chicken on two occasions and wow! In love. The restaurant is small, dimly lit and rustic but has a romantic feel to it. I found the staff very friendly. It was a little noisy on my second visit. I also tried the calamari which was delicious.
Always on the hunt for an after-dinner treat simply to satisfy the sweet tooth. There's nothing more indulgent than to visit a restaurant serving delectable desserts.
We stopped by Maria's for a taste of Greek dessert. We sat outside with beautiful fairy lights in the trees to create a cosy ambiance.
The menu is authentic and offers you a taste of Greece with various meze platters and dishes. Coffee is served in glass tumblers on a beautiful serving tray - very Greek.
The chocolate lava cake was decadent and moist and made from locally crafted artisanal chocolate and served with fresh cream. Best of all it is wheat-free. The Kataifi was delicious with fine strands of phyllo pastry, topped with a creamy Greek custard.
Ravani is a flavourful sweet semolina cake soaked in a lemon honey syrup. Really a delightful dessert. Rizogalo is homey, comforting and creamy! A Greek rice and milk pudding dusted with cinnamon.
Definitely a place to satisfy your sweet tooth and to get your sweet fix in Cape town.
I've been wanting to try Maria's for ages, and finally got the chance to go for dinner with a group of friends. We made the booking really late for a big table, so unfortunately we weren't able to sit outside, which is the prime position under trees and fairy lights in the courtyard on a lovely summers evening. Despite being in the area many times, I've never come across the restaurant - it's like a little hidden gem.
I think the manager or one of the owners was our waiter. He was very attentive the entire night. We were a big table of 8, and the restaurant was fully booked, yet we were looked after and well taken care of throughout the night.
The menu is quite extensive, and after much deliberation I decided to share a sort of 'mezze' platter with a friend. We ordered a variety of dips and pitas and proteins. I loved the whole sharing concept, and together with a bottle of wine and good company it made for a wonderful evening. Our food was amazing - a delicious Greek feast! I'll definitely be back again. I haven't eaten at any other Greek places in Cape Town, but I wouldn't be surprised if Maria's is at the top of the list.
After parking my car I turned a corner and felt like I was on holiday in Greece. What a beautifully situated restaurant with charismatic furniture scattered amongst one of the corners of Dunkley Square. The low hanging trees in-between the tables almost feel like being on an olive farm.
The waitrons at Maria’s are exceptional, all staff help all tables so we got to chat to three different people, all so sweet and passionate about the food and drinks they serve. Sweet is the correct word for this restaurant, it’s just so cute and heart-warming.
The food was delicious, my table mainly focused on entrées: Spanakopita, Tiropita, chicken skwers, tzatziki, lamb meat balls and aubergine. The taste was amazing. All in all it is quite expensive for the amount of food you get but if you take your time and not gulp it down in one go your tummy will be satisfied.
We had a lovely dessert which was a type of baklava with vanilla cream on the top. The coffee was also lovely.
What a fantastic place for a date, I can just image dawdling here on a hot summer evening till the late hours of the night over a bottle of good red wine.
I've been meaning to come here for a while, and all I can say is that Im devastated that I didn't do it earlier! Food, service and the outdoor atmosphere over lunch was bliss, and man ... Their Haloumi was a generous portion cooked to perfection! I'll definitely be back. We had the vegetarian platter for two with a side order of Halomi and Calamari - between two of us we couldn't finish everything!
Popped in here while waiting for the wife. Waiter suggested a locally made cider named Sxollie which I really enjoyed. I also ordered a friend pastry starters which was filled with feta, mozzarella and spring onion which was quite nice, I can't remember what the Greek name was. The service was very good. Would like to return to try out more of their dishes.
I can not fault this restaurant on anything. They have an authentic Greek atmosphere, the food is beautiful and so delicious and the service is spot on! 💙🇬🇷🍋🍆🍷
Had another delicious meal at one of my favourite places. I would highly recommend the vegan platter for one as a starter. It's a great combo of deep fried crumbed zucchini, dolmades, hummus, aubergine, olives. My boyfriend enjoyed the lamb mousakka. The service is always great and the ambience chilled and friendly. Lovely spot.
The first time I came here, it was on my first day of my first job in Cape Town, and my manager took me out for lunch to get to know me better. With it's charming surroundings in a calm square in the City Bowl, this restaurant packs a punch with a delicious menu to suit sticklers for Greek food and those who simply enjoy finger foods and want a light lunch snack. The service is always great, too! I've never had a bad waitron.
After dinner with friends we needed dessert. We searched the area for somewhere that satisfied our cravings. We settled on Maria's. Upon arrival, the restaurant was full so we sat outside under the trees that glittered with twinkling fairy lights.
We ordered cappuccinos which arrived promptly. They were on the small side, but hot, foamy and flavourful.
Our desserts were Rizogalo (rice milk pudding dusted with cinnamon); Ravani (semolina cake soaked in lemon honey syrup with cream); moist & light proxy chocolate lava cake and best of all; Kataifi (thin stands of phyllo pastry, topped with creamy custard). All absolutely delicious and well worth the prices.

Oh my god!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING FOOD!!
I experienced this wonderful Greek food for the first time after viewing the art at first Thursday's.
I can't explain the sensations that I had while devouring my mealS.
I ordered the roasted aubergine marinated in balsamic vinegar and other deliciousness for my starter. The most amazing aubergine dish I have ever had. All I can say is, you HAVE to try it for yourself! I then ordered the grilled calamari which was lovely but a bit over crispy/burned to some extent. I found myself eating most of my boyfriend's main which was the calamari and mussel linguini in a parmesan sauce. Beautiful. That was perfect. Another meal that you just have to try.
Friendly and authentic!
I didn't get to take any pictures as I dug in before I got the chance to take a picture
Best Greek place in town hands down. Really, beautiful - it's actually so nice. The service is great and everything I've had there so far has been impeccable.
Tucked away in the corner of Dunkley Square Maria's is a great choice for a mediterranean dinner. The restaurant is not very big, so be sure to book if you want a table. It can also get a bit noisy and crowded , which is unfortunately -but the food is great! I had the mucver (zucchini fritters) in a pita and was very happy with the taste and quality.
If you need a secret spot to impress your girl, you've come to the right place. It's a really romantic setting tucked away in town. They serve a variety of great Greek dishes with a good selection of drinks.
Maria's is such a beautiful, quaint little restaurant.
Firstly, I'm not a huge fan of Greek food, but I rated Maria's based on their food, and not my personal preference. We ordered a few plates to share, and I think this is how the Greek cuisine is best enjoyed. We ordered the 'Melizanes' meze which is an aubergine dish. It was very tasty, however, I was quite disappointed that it is a cold dish. We also ordered the halloumi, which I don't suggest ordering because it is offered at so many restaurants and it would be worthwhile trying something different. The veg platter meze had a few tasty bites, but I found it quite expensive.
My main was the vegetarian wild mushroom dish - this was made well but nothing out of the ordinary. My friend really enjoyed the lamb burger and was impressed with the size of the potion.
Friendly staff.
Cute, romantic and tasty. A great Greek experience. Shared all the tapas, generous portions for tapas and couldn't stop eating. Love this type of food and this restaurant is doing it right.
Lekker lekker
Always on the hunt for a delicious lamb burger so Maria's today definitely ticked all the boxes. Today felt like summer so the setting was even more amazing as you looked over the mountain with the sun gazing down at you. Maria's offers a lovely Greek menu with great service. Sashen and I had the lamb burgers which were delicious. I loved that we got pita's instead of the usual buns. To drink I had a glass of rose which fitted the summers day and Sashen had an americano. Both drinks were great the (deluxe coffee brand) is always a winner. Will definitely be back💕😀
Steph Latsky what a jol! Walked into Maria's dying for some breakfast, and unfortunately had to walk out due to no breakfast options. Luckily the waiter, a very innovative and charming guy made a plan and told us they can improvise and throw together something for us. They did not disappoint! From the water with a delicious orange slice in it, brilliant (and strong) coffee and a smashing ad lib omelette - wow! The greek flavours added to the omelette (wild mushrooms, creamy feta and fresh pita bread) did Maria's greek heritage proud - turning an ordinary omelette into a culinary adventure. Thanks guys for turning our breakfast into a feature of our trip to Cape Town!
I love it here!!! I know a lot of people aren't mad about it but if ever in doubt, have the falafel! It is a dip of heaven!!! 😍💜 the owners are such sweethearts and so kind. I really enjoy the close-knit, homey atmosphere the whole restaurant embodies 🌠
Maria's dishes up a trendy twist on classic Greek food and I will definitely be back. The highlight is the incredible service with the owners offering friendly suggestions or just having a chat with patrons- it really adds to the already cosy atmosphere ✨ I made up my own mezze platter and everything was delicious👌🏽
Popped in at Maria's last night for my mom's birthday, our waiter was very attentive and checked on us regularly to see if we needed anything. I had the lamb pita that was absolutely to die for. I'd definitely be back to try out their calamari and some of their desserts.
This little gem never gets old or tired: it just keeps on sparkling.
Lunch with a friend at Maria's could not have been more satisfying. Sitting together under the umbrellas on Heritage Square on a perfect, sunny autumn afternoon, we could just as easily have been in the village square of a Mediterranean island.....but enough daydreaming. Ambience scores 4/5.
The selection of tapas we ordered included dolmades, kefthedes, olives, and fresh hake goujons, all served with mouthwatering dips like tzatziki, humus and more. Each was exquisitely prepared and popped with fresh flavours. Truly, each mouthful was a treat. We finished the meal off with kataifi, which was simply off the charts decadent and divine, and a Greek coffee. The food scores a solid 4/5.
Service was prompt, pleasant and professional. Our waitron was completely on top of the menu, what's good and was able to make great recommendations. Another solid 4/5.
In all, this is a place one could visit every week and never grow tired of it. It works for a casual lunch with friends or a romantic dinner or a working lunch, or just for coffee. In a word, fantastic.
Really love the atmosphere here, sitting outside under the trees on a warm evening. The surrounding buildings are beautiful too. Also love the trays the waiters use.
The food is authentic and the service is really good. I had the risotto and loved it, tired my friend's lamb and enjoyed it too. Like the selection of wines.
all in all a great experience.
Good Greek food and very nice meze. It is however very busy and a group of people were turned away because they had no open tables so bookings are necessary to guarantee a table.
My goodness what great food! Their signature dish, slow roasted lamb was mind blowing, I had it yesterday and already craving it. They also have some great gluten free dishes that are just as yummy as with. Beautiful setting in the quaint dunkley square but they are in desperate need of actual wine glasses with stems!
Excellent! Really quality mezze type food and lovely cosy vibe. A little pricey (esp the wine) but worth it for a good night. Best were the dolmades, haloumi and zucchini cheese balls.
My favorite restaurant in cape town. Super romantic, intimate and great Greek food. Get calamari for sure, and any of their amazing mains with lamb! Must book ahead, small and popular means hard to get a last minute table!
We had to take an early table for dinner as they were fully booked for later. This wasn't a problem as sitting outside under the trees on the square in the fading light of a warm sunny day is quite delightful. With the old buildings of Dunkley Square surrounding you, one could almost be in Greece. ..but not quite!
Service was charming - also with a Greek flavour, however it did take an hour for our food to arrive so don't expect to eat in a hurry.
We ordered meze to share.
Spanakopita was delicious with a hint of walnut and just enough garlic. An Otto Lenghi inspired medley of roasted aubergine and courgettes on a bed of baby spinach was served with a mint and yoghurt dressing, humus and haloumi was quite outstanding and worth going back for alone.
The Spanakopita were Ok. Nothing really wrong but a bit plain and bland. Grilled baby calamari with garlic and lemon were also Ok. Lovely and tender but they tasted as though they had been left in the kitchen a while whilst waiting for the other plates.
My pita bread was quite hard and crusty- I should have sent it back- but the other one was fine.
All in all a very pleasant meal with some outstanding highlights. Great atmosphere. Definitely worth going to again.
Now this is a cute place to eat. It's in an adorable spot on Dunkley Square, and the interior is beautifully designed with the most intelligent ceiling lighting that can be moved to accommodate different seating plans. The food is authentic and the service friendly and enthusiastic. It's always a treat when restaurant owners attend to their guests personally.
A while back we tried the vegan platter, which was the only vegan option on the menu at the time. As a meal, we found all the elements very oily. But recently the menu has seen the addition of falafel pitas which you can order without tzadziki and feta. It's made me so happy because I love coming to this little gem, and now I can participate in the deliciousness! Thanks Maria's!
Met a friend for dinner on Thursday evening at Maria's - used to be an old favorite of mine but hadn't been there in years. We shared quite a few meze, all of which were great, especially the skordalia. Attentive and friendly staff, reasonable prices - will be back soon!
Hands down the best Greek restaurant in Cape Town, probably among the best anything-restaurants in the city. Sterling location, consistently excellent food, friendly and efficient staff. Vegan stuff, and dog friendly.
(Maybe too dog-friendly? One time a couple brought their daschund to Maria's, which proceeded to widdle on the floor. They laughed at this, and then a waiter had to mop it up. The people who work at Maria's are saints. The people who eat at Maria's, on the other hand.)
What a wonderful quiet space to be. The staff is top and the food is fantastic. My first experience with Greek food and from mezethes to main dishes it's perfect. Thanks a lot Cleon and Kate, you made my Cape Town experience unique. The mucver, the calamari and lamb are perfect. What to say, just fantastic. Keep up with the good work
Went to Maria's for a birthday dinner (as it was Christmas Eve and most places are closed- Maria's are normally fully booked but luckily we managed to get a booking tonight) . This is a small Greek restaurant but has been here for years because they are simply amazing ! For starters I ordered the haloumi (super salty) dalmades (wonderful) and spanakopita (different but good) and mains I ordered the speciality dish (so I was told by the waitress- the lamb and veggies) which was sublime! Others ordered the lamb risotto which I sampled and was divine - perfectly cooked and tasty! Anther friend had the veggie moussaka which I do not rate at all. All in all was a wonderful small town vibe, family run and they really look after you there, excellent service and food.
The staff is super friendly, I was there with my grandfather who has trouble climbing stairs, and even though they have only 2, the waiters were insistent on helping. The food was very tasty and the portions Are decent sized but I was very disappointed on the amount of chips with the burger. The reason I'm giving such a low rating is due to the service, it was shocking. We waited over an hour for our food. Restaurants really need to learn not to overextend themselves.
Maria's is a little Greek haven with beautiful seating outdoors, and a comforting, relaxed atmosphere (I went during the day, though I have heard it can get quite busy at night).
Menu at first glance did not look so extensive, but then I realized I was unable to choose from all the delicious options - it is actually very well-balanced. Service matched the atmosphere - relaxed, but not inattentive on the other hand.
For starters, go with a selection of mezze, or try the vegan platter for 1. You might feel too full after this for mains, but if you're as daring as I am, try out the slow-cooked lamb or grilled calamari (you can always take it away home if you can't finish it).
DO NOT leave the restaurant without trying their orgasmic baklava or kataifi!
Wonderful tasty greek food with wonderful friendly staff. We will return everyone enjoyed their meals and the portions were wonderfully presented and both quantity and quality offered excellent value.
Lovely little spot. Fantastic tapas, really good service, great atmosphere.
Even though it was a crazy busy evening, nothing came close to being a hassle.
I like it a lot.
Really good Greek food. Been here for breakfast and dinner. The hand cut chips are a must.
The service is friendly and fast.
For dessert, the chocolate fondant is my favourite.
The Kefthethes starter was delicious as was the Baklava desert. The food is of a good standard and the chairs and tables outside the restaurant creates a European ambience. There was however a rushed feel to the service with rushed order taking and speedy clearing of tables which appears to come from a shortage of staff. It is suited for a large group of friends that want to try a selection of starters.
Maria's is absolutely incredible from the decor to the service and most especially the food!
I ordered off the Mezethes menu and was served the most amazingly delicious food I have eaten all year. I recommend starting your order with the vegetarian platter for two and then adding whatever catches your eye! Be sure to include the Mucver (zucchini and feta balls) and mussels in your order.
Maria's is the perfect place for summer drinks and hungry tummies!
Maria's definitely has my vote for best restaurant in Cape Town
This was such a find! Delicious food in a great setting with some of the best service I've experienced in a while. Friendly, fast, efficient. I had calamari and salad, Brian had beer battered fish with veggies. And we shared a decadent pudding :-). All very yummy. Portion sizes are very generous - great for large appetites, possibly a little overwhelming if you're less hungry. My only criticism is that all beverages are served in the same style glasses I really like wine in a wine glass and coffee in a cup. The glass thing is stylish though.
I used to live across the road from this amazing restaurant! I havent been disappointed once with any of their meals. It serves such delicious Greek food- the lamb is simply to die for! And their breakfasts are equally as good. On a summers day it is so pretty to sit outside under the trees.
Delicious food, cosy atmosphere and awesome people! Highly recommend it. We shared the vegetarian starter, a bottle of house red and baklava for dessert. I finished it off with rooibos and mint tea (think a huge sprig of fresh mint & served with honey), perfect!
Great Greek dining with a friendly atmosphere. The food was so great I decided to skip main coarse and just have multiple starters. Don't think I would change my mind the next time I go either.
Excellent service after walking in from the street on a fully booked Saturday night. As far the food goes....three words....slow cooked lamb! Okay four words...WOW!
Well worth a visit. Menu is not extensive (a plus) but there are a variety of dishes, from small to larger to choose from. Food is good. Service is good, too. Go on a warm evening as most of the seating is outside in the Square. Then it is magical.
I absolutely love this restaurant and have never had a bad experience here. The food is absolutely delicious whether you opt to share the incredible variety of tapas style options or whether you order your own main meal. I would recommend going with sharing as you get to taste a larger variety and it offers a nice intimate experience with friends.
Had a wonderful dinner at Maria's this evening featuring excellent service, an interesting wine list, and a scrumptious-sounding menu which was very challenging to select from! We shared a couple of vegetarian platters and shared a couple of mains amongst 4. It was a great evening!
If you want easy & delicious vegan food without having to make a fuss, Maria's is the best - literally have a vegan platter on the menu.. They also have some of the best humus & dolmades in Cape Town. One of the best spots for a long lazy lunch in the sun!
Excellent service - the waitress had great rapport with us. I must say their pitas are delicious and worth the money. Very romantic atmosphere in Dunkley Square. I'm quite a fan of Greek food because lamb is the greatest meat ever and they do a damn good job at cooking it. Highly recommended!
Maria's has the best veg platter - the mucver is always a winner! Nothing beats sitting out on the square on a sunny day eating your weight in hummus.
Marias is such a pleasure to visit. The lamb pita is tender and full of flavour (just like good lamb should be) and their chips are to die for. Great value for money, location and service. We went in winter and sat inside which was cozy and warm. I’d love to go back in summer to try their tapas. YUM!
Such a homely vibe. Forgot this little gem still doing Greek like it's meant to be done. Just needs a better craft beer selection and then we all winning. Awesome Cleon.
Despite being slightly pricey it's vibey in a very quaint little courtyard giving the feel that one is sitting on a pavement in Europe! It's small and intimate! The food is DELICIOUS and tasty!!! Canapés and wine are the perfect idea for a date! And the lit up trees only add to this ambiance! Go! 😃
I have never experienced anything like this before! If you're looking for the best food in town, the best service, the most fantastic setting, GO HERE! We didn't order mains, just a whole bunch of starters. I'm not even going to say anything more, make the effort and go see for yourself :-) Brenda Byers
Absolutely love this place. The vibe is always great and service fantastic. The food is phenomenal, no matter what you order. I will always recommend it.
Great atmosphere, good tapas and the mains were also enjoyable. Chicken burger was really good, bun was a bit soggy but take nothing away from the burger! Had a great evening all round!
Really superb Greek food. Greek food in Cape Town is hard to find and this is really on point. Everything from their tzatziki to their dolmades are perfection not to mention it's in the most beautiful little square. They also offer vegan platters.

I don't have any photos to prove it but this place is pretty much faultless as far as I'm concerned. The Rosemary chips are completely delicious, and the lamb pita is an absolute must - lamb anything really. The veg moussaka is also delicious!
This place is next level amazing. The food was to die for. Such an interesting mix of options on the menu... I really had a hard time deciding! I will definitely be coming back! Great wine too... they had a different selection than most places and definitely was happy with what we selected.
